here we go with another shoutout Monday evening and today's shout-out is going
to be about you got a watch to find out
I'm Tom Kvichak and this is Toms Trains and Things this channel was
created to help other modelers who are in need of guidance in pursuing their
dream of building a model railroad and to build a model railroad you've got to
have some buildings in there and today what I'm going to do is going to take
you through some of the buildings that I built and the manufacturers where I got
them from now it's going to be Campbell scale models Bar Mills scale model works
and FOS Scale Models those three are the major manufacturers of the wood kits
that I have built that I have on my layout and I started out with Campbell
scale models over 30 years ago and I still have my first kit well a portion
of my first kit one of the buildings on it and I'll put it up here before we get
to that watch this if you would like to see more videos like this go ahead and
hit that subscribe button and go to my channel click right below the video
where it says Toms Trains the Things click on that and that'll take you to my
channel page and click on playlists and that will show you all the playlists
that I have I have them grouped into different categories by topic so it's
easy to find so if you're looking for something on soldering you'll go find it
if you're looking for electrical project you could find it if you're looking for
DCC you'll find it I have over 40 playlists on there where the videos are
grouped into categories so you could find them easily so take a look at it I
have a few laser-cut wood kits I had JL innovations right here here's
another Fos Scale model one right here I have northeastern scale model and I
included with some manufacturer on this model tech studios these are flats and
there are many other manufacturers that I have that I have put together there I
have a couple of from Walters and some other ones that I can't remember the
names right hit now and that's what happens when you get old you can't
remember things like that but anyway there are a lot of wood kit
manufacturers out there like always I'll put some of their links down in the
description so you can see the different manufacturers that I've used now these
are ones that I have to put together yet and I think I have a couple more from JL
innovations I just have to dig them out of the totes that I have but anyway
there are some magnificent looking kits that you could build and they're not
very hard I know a lot of people get frustrated with wood kits laser cut wood
kits because I think they're so complicated
and they have so much detail in them that they look at it and say I can't do
this but yes you can they're very easy and you could check
some of my playlists where I did some of the wood kits I did the gravely building
and I did the tower gas and I have some detail additional videos on there
where I do the details of the tower gas so take a look at them and I'm
gonna lose these I'm starting to drop things here but anyway take a look at
those and I'll show you some of the kids that I built from the different
manufacturers and so you could take a look at to see what they look like and
they look pretty good if I have to say so myself now you may have noticed that
on Sunday there was a short video on there of me talking about the wood kits
and you'll see that in this video right here but I hit the start streaming
button instead of the start recording button now after I finished that clip I
looked down and it said start recording so I said uh I didn't record this so I
then I hit the start record and did the same thing over again well almost the
same thing over again and so you saw a double clip of me
doing a recording but it actually stream but luckily I had my settings set to
private because this is a new computer and I was doing some tests on it earlier
about the streaming settings so I sent it at private so it wouldn't go out but
I let this one go out on Sunday so I hope you enjoyed that that's one of my
bloopers and I almost forgot I got these from Robert Sacco when I went to the
Tampa Train show he said that he had picked these up at his grandfather's
place about six months before that and I told him to hold on to him for me and
they finally got him these are really old kits from E. Suydam company I
have the swift meatpacking house and I have an electronics plant and as you can
see these are really very old kits and what I plan on doing with these instead
of making the building itself like this I'm probably going let me put it up here
closer that's the this electronics plant but what I made do is flatten these out
and put them up against the wall so I can make at least two buildings out of
each one of these kits so I'll have four buildings altogether as up against my
backdrop so could have them as flats so that's what I have here I don't think
that you know when I'm doing the kits in the future that I'm going to go through
the process of step by step like I did on the gravely building an on Tower gas
because that just takes way too much time it you know you when I have the
video you may see 30 minutes of it but out of that 30 minutes I might have
taken maybe three to four hours to film everything and then try to cut out and
put the relevant stuff in there so you know whenever you're filming stuff and
trying to do things it takes a lot longer time and it's really hard to do
to get the right angles I've heard from a lot of you saying that you know your
hands are in the way well you just can't help it when you're building the kit I
mean so but anyway it's not gonna be you know if I do show it it's not gonna be
such in great detail like I did step by step on the other two kits but I'll be
showing some videos on building these and the other wood kits that I have in
the future sometime coming up this year I don't know when but they'll be in
there so keep an eye out for those a lot of my wood kits are on this end of the
layout in rock wood and this is bar Mills bar Mills Walter's bar Mills bar
Mills bar Mills right there and then this one right here not quite
sure who the manufacturer it is we have some sheds and other things right here
that are wood over there and then that one right there's Walters you're not
Walters with bar Mills just one the ice houses and Walters and that one bulls
Salvage is bar Mills now this is a Campbell scale model one right here this
is the abandoned farmhouse that boiler house right there is a wood kit
yeah the dollies is a bar Mills and then we have a couple of smaller ones back
here that are wood kits I can't remember who the manufacturer is on there but bar
Mills FOS Scale models bar Mills bar Mills bar Mills that is not sure who and
neither that one there that's an old farmhouse but those are all the wood
kits oh yeah and the tower gasps right there amongst all the styrene cake next
to the city classics is the furniture miracle chair company and so I have a
few more that are on the Shelf right now and quite a few that I haven't even
started yet Campbell scale models goes back
a long way and you could see by these pictures on here they have a variety of
models that you could choose from and I've been building their models for over
30 years like from what I said I have several of them on my layout right now
and I'll bring up some pictures of them in a little bit but you can see from the
the the home screen right here that they have all kinds of stuff that you could
do the next one I'm going to talk about right here is bar mil scale model works
I spent most of my money on bar Mills scale model works that they have
excellent models well half of my layout is in wood and three-fourths of the wood
is in bar mill scale model works kits and they have some really good laser-cut
wood kits I have probably put together about
thirty of them so far the next one is Foss gale models now they have quite a
few kits available ranging anywhere from about $35 all the way up to over $300 in
their more elaborate kits that they put out like once a year it this one right
here is on display at Suncoast Center for fine scale modeling all of these
kits are remarkable and they do an excellent job of filling in spaces on
your layout and for you beginners they have beginners kits on there that are
very simple that you could put together in one evening that will get you started
on building your laser cut wood kits now the reason I did this for the three
three of these manufacturers is because these are some of the best wood kits out
there for the beginners they're not to differ
called to build I mean some of them they have some difficult ones but this is a
good place to start Campbell scale model the ones that I
have are not laser-cut but some very old ones bar Mills they're all laser cut and
foss scale models they're all laser-cut now I showed you some of the kits that I
had on my layout but I also have some kits that are sitting on my shelf over
there that I didn't have a place for it yet until I complete the last section of
my layout so whenever that happens all the all the kits that I have that are
not complete yet and are on the shelf right now will be going up on the layout
in that last section so hopefully sometime in this this coming year I'll
get finished with that section I hope so anyway
that's it for right now and Sadie's right down here and I don't want to run
over her nose when I moved to cheer you don't want to come up come on you could
make it alright there's the star of the show here let's turn around come on okay
you don't know how to turn around okay you don't have enough room okay yeah we
go we'll turn around this away here now
here's the star of the show Sadie and she kept us awake last night barking at
all the noises outside because we have
the window open
okay that's it we'll see ya
