Waching daily Jul 22 2018

I think that's pretty much it Michele, Want some buttermilk?

Welcome to Steve's

kitchen, today show is all about buttermilk. I love buttermilk in pancakes and it's

really good for baking all sorts of things from cupcakes to regular cake but

when you start to get a little bit low you've either got to go out and buy some

new or you can just make your own. It isn't difficult to make, just keep a

little bit ,this one's empty, this one's got probably about an inch or so of

buttermilk left in it. That's quite enough to reculture this cultured

buttermilk and make your own buttermilk at home.

Simple, simple ingredients. You want a good quality milk, not something with

sort of low percentage of fat but something that's full cream. This one's

an unhomogenized so it's a really nice milk and I've got about a litre left in

here, about two pints and that's how much buttermilk I'm going to make in this

recipe. So we just want to pour our full cream milk into any sort of open top

container and now we're going to take the cultures from this and add it to our

milk. Now we could have added the milk straight into these containers but they

really need to be sort of cleaned each time you use them, that's why I'm doing

it into a clean jug. In order to grow these cultures, you really just need

a small amount of buttermilk, maybe about a quarter of a cup or so into a litre or

two points, would do just fine. I've got probably about an inch or so

left, I'm going to use most of this and I'm just going to add it in to the top

of my full cream milk. Now traditionally you may know that buttermilk is a

byproduct of making butter. So it's the whey that's left over when you make

butter. When you buy it in the stores they often add a little extra cream back

into it, so it's a little thicker but it's got a lovely cultured flavor. So

basically when you make butter you take all the butter fats out of the milk or

cream and when you decide to make buttermilk again you want to add some

creams or fat back into it and that's why I'm using a full cream milk. If that

makes any sense. Buttermilk also is a great mesophilic

starter culture for making cheeses as well and that's what I'm going to be

actually using some of this to do in an upcoming episode, so check that one out.

What exactly do I mean by mesophilic? Well there are two types of cultures you

tend to use in cheese-making, one is a thermophilic, one is a mesophilic. One

likes a hotter environment, one likes a cooler environment. When I say hot, the

temperatures are actually quite low. Anyway we'll be doing more about that on

the channel at a later date. Now I'm just going to take a clean whisk,

give this a little stir through just to get the cultures evenly distributed. It's

not so important, just a little stir will do and we're just going to cover the jug

over. You could put an elastic band or a little bit of string around if you want

to but all we're trying to do is keep the bugs and critters out. Now in order

for the cultures to grow in the milk, we need to leave this out on the side at

room temperature, probably for about 24 hours maybe a day, day and a half at the

maximum and you will see that the milk will start to thicken and you'll have

something that smells and tastes just like the original buttermilk. So this

morning I had a little look at the buttermilk, there were little bubbles

forming on the top, so the cultures are starting to work. I had a little taste,

got a clean teaspoon, had a little taste. It's getting that buttermilk flavor but

it wasn't as thick as I wanted so I've left it till this evening. So it's been

another sort of several hours but if you take a look at this now. So I'll just

take the elastic band off and take the cheesecloth off. You can see those

beautiful bubbles that started to form, little bubbles here, that's the culture

starting to grow and if I get a spoon. Just look at this, look how beautiful and

thick the cultures have become. It doesn't smell bad, it doesn't smell like

off milk. There's a beautiful rich buttermilk smell to this and if you give

it a taste at the moment, it's almost like a yoghurt with a slight tartness to

it. That's really delicious, fresh made, homemade, beautiful buttermilk and what I

would do with this because I've got a whole litre of buttermilk now, I'm going

to either use it in upcoming baking videos which you'll see on Steve's

kitchen but you can also put this into ice cube trays, freeze it up. It stores

for months and months if you decide to freeze it. Also I can just take that

original buttermilk container, which I've cleaned and sterilized

and I can pour some of it, lets say...... oh! so, so thick. Now expect to get

those little clumps and lumps in it. It's normal for buttermilk but trust me this

is rich, it's fresh tasting. Now if you want to you can store this, put the lid

on, store it in the fridge, it's probably normal buttermilk storage maybe three to

five days now it's been opened but I'm going to freeze most of this and use it in

upcoming recipes that I have planned for Steve's kitchen. Super delicious, homemade

buttermilk, ever so simple. Keep that culture by the way, when you get to the

end of this, keep a little bit in there, if it still smells fresh and clean and

sometimes the actual bottle can smell a little bit off but if you pour it out

into a container and it still smells fresh and clean use that as a starter

for new and fresh buttermilk and you'll never ever run out. Now before you leave

today I want to have a little chat about some of the benefits and why you might

decide to make your own buttermilk at home. It's actually the next morning, I've

been thinking about this all night and you know if you just go and Google

what are the benefits of buttermilk? and you'll see cultures around the world

that use buttermilk for all sorts of health reasons.

It's a probiotic, really good for the gut, one of the big pluses of making your own

buttermilk is, a bottle of buttermilk like this, a good quality buttermilk, will

set you back maybe three to five dollars here in Australia and I've made a whole

litre of buttermilk for probably about a dollar fifty. So you can basically use

this at home, still smells beautiful and fresh this

morning and you know, think about those yakults and all those probiotic drinks

that you can buy in the shops and just how much they cost. Now this is lumpy,

it's a little bit sort of gloopy looking but it smells fresh and it tastes a

little bit sweet, you don't need to add sugar or fruit into this. Don't forget

that lactose, just like glucose and fructose is a sugar in itself, so it's

going to have its own sweetness. Now I'm going to have a glass of this this

morning, just see how beautiful and fresh it still tastes.

That is so, so good and because I've made it myself, I don't have to worry, whether I

have a big glass, a small glass. It'll certainly, as I say last three or four

days, five days perhaps. in the fridge like this and just save a little bit and

start all over again. Get some comments going down, let's have

a little chat about this in the comments, share your thoughts with everybody and

share this video also if you'd like to inform people about the great qualities

of homemade buttermilk. I'll see you in another video very shortly,

Take care. Ah one more important thought that I had. Now there's a trend out there

at the moment to be using raw milk. Please don't use raw milk to make

buttermilk. One of the things that's important to know is that we're setting

this in a room temperature where it's perfect for the growth of the buttermilk

cultures. Now raw milk is not pasteurized, there is

a chance, there is always a little chance, that there could be some bacteria in raw

milk and you are setting it in a perfect temperature for that bacteria to grow. So

go with pasteurized milk that you know is already bacteria free and then you've

just got the perfect environment for the butter cultures to grow and nothing else

and go with a really good quality milk if you can. An unhomogenized milk is

really nice, that's what I tend to use but a full fat, full cream milk is always going

to produce you a really much better quality buttermilk. Another little

thought. I think that's pretty much it Michele. Want some buttermilk?

In the same glass?

yes.

UKRAINA MRE TIP 2 - updated Ukranian ration Type 2 - Duration: 19:12.

so...

Today is Ukraine

But I am angry because post officers opened the package

Now I'm not sure if everything is inside...

Somebody should receive some beatings....

Not ok guys....

''It is in cyrillic it must be something serbian...'' Fck of....

you can't just go around destroying Ukrainian mre's

Ukrainian 24h ration...green bag, not changed.

This is not the old one you have seen on our channel that almost cost me life.

This one is updated ration. They have revised the contents

Bag is much much heavier and I hope there will be different food inside then the last time.

I've got this neat patch with the package.

Thank you very much for sending this

You have our gratitude.

This is going out now in orderly fashion

Babushka bag. Contains three smaller bags

Breakfast, lunch, dinner...

This is supposed to be dinner

Yes this is dinner

This is breakfast

Fck off wasp fck off.....

This is supposed to be lunch then

Objed Obed this is the same in our languages.

So these are the three meals we got

which are contained inside the main bag

Breakfast and dinner are lighter then the lunch

LEts open it up one by one

Post office simply had to open up every bag obviously

''Maybe some fan did it'' Maybe it's an as**le....

Mocking the animosity towards cyrillic lettering and fear of all serbian.

you are witnessing unboxing of ukrainian ration type 2- breakfast

I didn't mention it before it is menu type 2

I wanted to cut this out of video but I forgot.Marijan is basically telling me that I'm an a-hole for not sticking to diet and getting fat.

This ration is much more civilized than the last one.Especially,no more mystery cans.

Now everything is packed neatly

Main dish is peas with vegetables and pork meat.

These are hard biscuits packed in digital camo plastic bag

Spoon.Classic.Plastic.Made in china.

Broken of course

One napkin.One sugar.

And you get moist napkin

''Isn't this post coital napkin?'' It is,for your tiny balls.

Lets take it out.Bag has perforation.Opens easily

This smells like peas and meatballs when we were kids in kindergarden!!!

If you ever attended kindergarden...

You got only sausages? WIth eggs?

Eggs were the day after...

This smells like when we were kids...

and when we would get stew in our kindergarden...

''Looks like somebody ate it'' yeah maybe the dudes from post office

This is what it looks like(sry for blur)

It looks and smells very healthy

I'm very excited about this

It will probably taste great also

We will heat it up on an Esbit stove

Let's open up the lunch also

For lunch they get more stuff

We even got black tea

Sugar....salt'n'pepa...

Apple jam...

Breakfast is already boiling

uuuu this is good

Like it is homemade

You guys jumped from -10 to +10. and not in temperature but in food quality

Grandma's kitchen

And this is updated menu

This is better than Podravka's cans.

I can't believe I'm saying this for Ukranian

Because of bad experience...but dear lord this is good.

Come and try it...

Vegetable stew with pork

I'm really happy and excited with this Ukrainian meal

Except hot chicks they started making hot meals

this is also some sort of goulash stew

HAve you heard it... uf...

It splashed

Also vegetables and pork

Great thing is that you don't have to use water for preparation

You just heat it up

We call this djuvedj. (jew-wedge if you wanna pronounce it)

This is basically kasha with barley

We can see pieces of beef

All this main meals are pretty healthy choice for a ration meals

These are probably healthiest dishes I have ever seen in military rations ever.

Unlike the old ukrainian......

All this stuff looks like winter food

Wtf is this

This is a planet for itself....

Same story here.We have a big chunk of meat

Some sort of soup (NO SOUP FOR YOU)

And in this soup floats....

This monster

Big chunk of mystery meat

tendons....veins....

Same story here.SOme sort of mystery meat....

I'm not used to this type of cuisine but hey if they eat it on regular basis....

Hey jo

My girl came

We live in celibacy for last 7 years

I got the middle finger.

Last meal...dinner...we also get sugar

Black tea, napkin

Wet napkin.Another pack of biscuits

you get toast...although I don't see why but ok

Honey in a bag

And the main meal

Another beef kasha

This isn't promising

barley kasha with beef

Visualy not satisfying but probably very healthy

Lunch is finally heated.Potatoes veggies and beef

Not so exciting.Sort of acidly

Breakfast was great.Exciting.and now this.

I don't get it.

I mean it is edible. But it has some sort of weird smell.

Very intense smell.Maybe due to beef tendon and veins

There are many culture and cuisine differences of course i get it

I don't have to like it.

Breakfast got my standing ovations but this won't

This dinner beef kasha is sweet

I guess due to carrots

This is actually interesting taste. sweet and salty

Like there is some sauce that made it extra sweet.Pretty nice.

This is like sweet risotto but barley instead of rice

It says dinner on the bag but you can eat it anytime

Thats it

These were 4 main dishes

You can drop toast inside soup

honey on biscuit

Russians and Ukrainians are putting lots of sugar and sweet stuff inside their rations

I suppose it's cultural thing

I've heard similar things for muslims also

honey and biscuits....

Apple sauce....

It is written...apple....

This is awesome!

That's it.You've seen it all.No suprises.

This ration is still exotic but way better then the last time

Breakfast was mindblowing

Lunch was slightly awkward. (for me)

Dinner, barley with beef, is pretty nice

It is sweeter than I'm used to so it is kind of interesting

You get two tea's,loads of sugar, honey and applesauce

You get few packs of this Blyat biscuits

Racion-ration

Rational biscuits!

Two packs of toast and thats it

I have expected more stuff in the bag.Because it seemed pretty big

UKRAINIANS AND RUSSIANS STOP FIGHTING!

Make peace!

bye

Q&A On DCC++ Motor Shields - Troubleshooting & More - Duration: 24:46.

we have some more comments questions answers a lot of answers on from my

emails I'm not going to name names on this one this is going to be anonymous

but there's a lot of questions on there that I get on my email so let's get

going with this right now I'm Tom Kvichak and this is Toms Trains and

Things this channel was created to help other modelers who are in need of

guidance in pursuing their dream of building a model railroad and we're

going to go over some more comments and question mostly questions from my

viewers who sent me emails and contacted me through the web page so let's get

going with this right now right after this if you would like to see more

videos like this go ahead and hit my subscribe button you know why because

it's free it doesn't cost you anything to hit that subscribe button and while

you're at it ding that Bell so you could be notified whenever I have a new video

coming out because that's the only way you're gonna get notified as if you ding

that Bell so let's get going with this right now

previously on Tom's trains and things we talked about another Q & A and this time

for the emails and that's what we're gonna do the emails and the context from

my web page and the first one is and I get this on the comments in my videos

and I also get it in the discussion page and I get it on the contact page of my

webpage what's your email address it's Tom's trains and things at gmail.com

it's listed in my videos in the descriptions it's also listed in my

webpage which I show up here at the header and you can also contact me

through the contact page on my web page now YouTube said that when they got rid

of the private message which they just did last week that you would still be

able to use the for business inquiries on the

about page but anyway my email is Tom's trance and things at gmail.com a lot of

the questions I'm getting is about generic motor shields not the Arduino

one I went and got myself an Arduino one I have two seed studio motor shields

version 1 and version 2 that I decided I wasn't going to try to use because it

uses different pins on there but I am getting so many questions about the

generic ones that you know these people are getting the generic ones because

they can't get the Arduino ones the Arduino ones are still available you

can't get it through our V note Arduino you can't get it through Amazon but

there's other distributors out there that you can get them you're not gonna

be paying $22 formed which is the list price for them from Arduino I've seen

them as high as $29 now but they're still available so if you googled it

you'll be able to find them I spent the past couple of days working with my seed

studio motor shield now this isn't a cheap one I looked it up and now it's

they still sell it and it goes for about $19.95 there's other mother shields out

there that go for as low as $5 $6 you want to stay away from those a lot of

them don't use the L 298 I see it uses the L 293 which is less amperage I know

one of my viewers said that he found one that he got it working it was a deke

robot I think he called it he said he got it on Amazon I looked on Amazon I

didn't see anything that they sold as far as a motor shield for deke

but I did find it and that was the only thing that they manufacturing it's an L

293 I'm glad that you got it working on there and I wish you would share your

experience with all of us on how you got it working now I the way I've been doing

this I've been testing this and I'll show you up here now this is

for the arduino motor shield you'll see direction is d 12 and D 13 that is that

is the figures that you're going to have to change if you use a generic motor

shield PWM you're going to have to change D 3 and d 11 on Arduino and break

D 9 + d 8 and current sensing a 0 and a 1 a lot of the motor shields don't use

the current sensing or the break but the ones that do have it you're going to

have to change those settings on there and I'm going to show you where you have

to do it on this page here DC cpp underscored uno dot H is where all the

figures are now what I when I tried doing I even try to with the library for

my seed studio shield but that just made it worse but here

here's what I'm talking about right here these are the two numbers that are

critical and they're hard to change I'm not sure how to change them I know I saw

where but I'm not quite sure how to do it now the signal pin main originally is

10 and you can see it says arduino uno uses OC 1b now that is a timer that's

built into the chip and DCC signal pin program uses 5 that's arduino uno uses

o's OC 0 B that is an interrupt now those two there are more timers in

there I use 6 but that didn't help me out on there there's other other figures

on there that you'll have to change and you can see where I did it here behind

the remarks I put what the default settings were and I use 9 10 a 0 + 0 + 8

+ 12 a lot of your are going to be using different pins for

your motor direction on mine 10a is 8 and pin B is 12 we're on the arduino

motor shield it's 12 and 13 this is where you're running into problems on

these figures right here and the enable pin for both the main and the program

now that's the pwm pins that you saw on the previous page it was 3 and 11 for

arduino now on my motor shield it's 9 and 10 now see where the conflict is

here we're in in the sketch they use pin number 10 for the timer the OC 1b timer

that's built into the chip now there's more timers in there like I use 6 but it

didn't didn't quite work I got this thing to work one time but it didn't

work fully I was able to change settings in JRM RI I was able to write to it but

I wasn't able to read back no when I went to the CV page I tried to write the

entire page and it skipped every other one so there's some kind of a timing

issue in there and the the main did not work at all the main just acted like

without even putting the throttle on it the locomotive moved there was no

control over it it just ran at a slow speed but anyway if you find a motor

shield that you want to try to use this is where you're going to have to change

the settings on it and I'll show you where over here we're going to highlight

this and do a search on it and come back over to the first page and then I'll

show you what I'm talking about here this is where you would have to change

it but I don't have enough scoop I just passed it up you don't I don't have

enough experience on this to be able to to

change this right here see this is set timer one its uses OC one B and that's

pin ten if you want to change it to six then that's a different pin that's a

different pin that's a different timer but I'm not exactly sure how to change

it in this area right here now I'm assuming since this says OC 1b I could

probably change it to com1 b1 is that c1 be if I did six I'd have to look it's

what six is and then change it to that but this is what this is what the

stumbling block is on most of the motor shields is this right here now I won't

gone on to forums and everything else and I haven't seen anybody that has

given a solution on what to do so I've seen somebody else said they use that

the motor shield that I mentioned earlier but I've also seen a lot of

complaints about that motor shield not working at all so you have to be careful

when you're doing that but if you get down to it the the best thing to do is

just go back to and find an arduino motor shield there available or else go

get the Pololu which is listed down here where is it at Baloo Lou you're gonna be

paying a little bit more for it but you get what you pay for the pollutes per

channel so you have channel a is three amps channel B is two M's the Arduino

channels are two amps of piece most of the generic ones that use the

smaller chip in there I think it's L 293 thats only one point two amps and I'm

not sure if that will handle anything on here especially if you want to use more

than a couple of locomotives running on your d c c++ i hope someone could come

up with a better solution than this i found you know i spent a lot of hours

trying to figure this thing out and the the only thing that i could figure out

is that at one setting over there but I'm not

exactly sure how to change that or what to put in there to change it somebody

with more experience on programming in or do we know may be able to help how I

know there's a lot of people out there I've seen them on the forums it's just

so hard to get a question in there and and and wait for an answer on some of

those forums because I've seen some questions on there that are from back in

March and they still haven't been answered yet which is a you know just a

simple question on how to do something so you know they use some some things

you could find out on the forum and other things you can't so you know it's

it's hit or miss on there but if you want to get your thing going in DC C++

either get the arduino motor shield which is still available in some places

you're gonna be paying in a premium price or the pallulah the Pulu liu i

found on amazon it's 31 dollars I think 31 95 or something like that

it's a good motor shield you have to put it together you have to put headers on

her and the little connectors like these on here for your terminals but you get

what you pay for it it's good and it'll work you know it'll work so I think when

Gregg Berman first designed that he said those were the only two that he found it

that would would work on there but that was like seven years ago now he hasn't

been on any of the forums since about over a year ago that's the last time

that train I think was trained board forum where that was about the last time

he was on air was over maybe 18 months ago so he hasn't been on there answered

questions he hasn't been answering questions on his YouTube channel either

so I'm not sure what's going on with that but I think you know if you want to

find out something there's somebody out there that knows how to do it so I hope

they could come on and help us out with this if you want to use two generic ones

this is a good motor shield right here it's not a cheap one but it's just you

know it just uses different pins then they Arduino one and unfortunately the

one pin that we need it uses for something else most of the questions

that I get on my emails is about troubleshooting the viewers run into a

problem they can't figure out how to solve the problem now when you're

whenever you're troubleshoot now I'm gonna go over a few tips for

troubleshooting I've been doing troubleshooting for over 40 years I have

a little technique where I break everything down so first of all you have

to determine has it always done that that's number one or has it just started

doing that since I did some changing changes on whatever I was working on if

it's always done that you got to go back to the beginning in fact on both of them

you got to go back to the beginning you got to go back to the beginning and

break everything down into sections say you have a circuit that you're working

on and it's not working so you have to start at the beginning and the end and

you have to break it into small sections and take one section at a time and just

troubleshoot it and make sure what you have what is working and what is not

working so you start at the beginning and say you've got power here but you

don't have power over here at the end we'll cut that in half and then check it

over here if you have power there then you know you don't have to worry about

this over here did you start looking over that way but if you don't have

power where you cut it in half cut it in half again okay and then go back and

check right there and then break it down into the smallest part where you have

power and where you don't have power that's the easiest way to troubleshoot

something not only looking for power but looking on your track circuits and

everything else I had a gentleman that's been playing around with a r1s and PM

42s for a long time and he finally figured it out after breaking it down

breaking it down breaking it down into that I'm having an issue

right now with my AR ones I could run something over it for 15 times 16 times

going over it and it'll stop for about five seconds and it'll go in it and

that's on all my AR one so I got to figure out what's going on with that but

anyway that's how you troubleshoot it now if you if if you're troubleshooting

something where you're it was working before and it's not working now since

you did something no matter what you think you did that's correct you

overlooked something on it so you got to go back to see what you just did and

undo that take everything apart and put it back together and chances are that is

where you're going to find your problem I've had to troubleshoot problems where

other people worked on something and the first thing that I would ask him to do

is what was the last thing that somebody worked on on that and that's the first

place that I would go to see where the problem is that's normally where it's

going to where it normally is going to occur now sometimes you'll have two

problems maybe you'll have a problem one place that really doesn't show up until

you you do something and it causes a problem and that compounds the problem

so once you get the one problem fixed you'll see that there is another problem

someplace else you just have to break it down into the smallest part and just

figure out what what happened what was the last thing that I worked on before

it started messing up and that's where you start your troubleshooting on there

and that and and if you do it that way you're always going to find it it might

take a while and you might overlook it because I do it all the time it's the

smallest thing you look at it and say oh that you know that looks good take the

thing apart if it's wiring if it's a connector take it apart and redo it

because most likely that's the problem is another one is on the

sketches now I've had a lot of people ask me one on the lessons for the

Arduino made easy where they have problems with the sketch and they can't

figure it out and all I can say is on that with Arduino when you go and you

click on it to compile it's gonna tell you exactly where that problem is it in

it most of the time you either spelled it wrong you forgot to put the semicolon

in there you missed a a a what is that parenthesis you missed the parenthesis

or you missed a curly bracket somewhere because a lot of times it'll be looking

for a curly bracket at the end of the head into the loop or the end of the

setup you may have deleted it by mistake and that those are the most common

errors in there and and if it tells you it it wasn't recognized that's because

you didn't initialize it you have to initialize it up at the top of your

sketch so basically any problem that comes up in it Arduino tells you where

it is and the most common ones are you missed the semicolon you misspelled it

or you spelled it and maybe not misspelled it but you spelled it

differently and then you did in the initialization you missed a parenthesis

someplace or you missed a curly bracket those are the most common ones there's

other ones in there but those are the most common mistakes that you'll come

across in the Arduino sketches I had another question on air about copper

tape now you can buy copper tape and it's a foil tape and they wanted to know

if you could use it for the bus wires and I said definitely not the the copper

tape is not thick enough it will not handle the average but what you can do

is if you're running your LEDs or something else you're running a small

amount of ampere through a building or something and you

you could put that tape in there you get even solder to it and could solder your

wires to it but that's what you use that copper tape for use it for small

amperage applications and that's it nothing more okay I had another person

asked me about can you use servos and Arduino for a turntable yes you can

there are many videos out there in fact there was a guy on YouTube model

builders which I told this person the same thing on the YouTube model builders

on their Arduino workshop videos they featured him two times on the videos

that the last time that I've seen a video on that turntable application I

mean he had I mean it had a big servo on her several motor and a big driver is a

big box but I mean it might have been a little overkill for a turntable

especially if it was a Cho but I mean he had it on there that I've seen other

videos on there yes you can use it you just have to search for I haven't done

anything with servos or anything like that yet I'll be doing it but right now

I I don't have anything available right now arduino z' and building Lighting's

yes i do have videos on that and i'm going to have more videos on that in

fact i'm working on one right now i have yours on my lighting and everything

right here i just put it over put it inside i and these are the remember

those wall warts that i took apart we're using those wires on there but what i

did i soldered some SMD LEDs to it and i made these little separations in there

and I also have some pictures that I'm going to glue onto these for the

interiors and then put the lighting in there and I have mine at I have a nano

and a DF mini player on here where I'm going to have sound effects on it so all

together I have 12 LEDs on here and the sound effects and that's

about it on a nano I have the the sketch figure it out I just have to put the

sound effects on the SD card I had some issues with the SD card on I put them in

there but I've got that taken care of now and I'll be doing a video on that

also I may have mentioned something about 80 tiny 85 I also picked up some

80 tiny 84 s that have a little bit more inputs and outputs on it then the 85

does the 85 only has five inputs and outputs if you have a project where you

only need a few outputs you could use it on there just like your Arduino except

if you go to digit tree if you if you go to digit keys the small one with the

five input outputs the 80 tiny 85 is only a dollar 24 and the 80 tiny 84 is

two dollars and four cents and that's what I have here I picked up a bunch of

them for two dollars and four cents and I'm not I can't remember how many they

have on air but they have a little bit more than the 80-85 does so this is the

eighty tiny 84 at digit digit keys you can get them real cheap and we're gonna

be doing a video on that I think I have some some I think I have some footage

already for it when I did the 84 I think I posted a little bit of it on Facebook

a week or two ago I'm going to use that and some more footage that I had and I'm

going to be doing some experiments on this one here what I was trying to do is

get the three PWM to work on the 85 unfortunately it only has two PWM pins

on it now there is a a workaround on it that somebody came up with years ago but

all it does uses two extra pins but it mimics the two pwm pin so whatever you

have whatever you have going on on the two pwm pins the other two PDMP

wmp ends are going to do the same thing unless you've changed numbers then it

doesn't look right they were using it for RGB LEDs so we're gonna be doing a

video on them pretty soon so keep an eye out for it and we'll see you next time

Today's video will be about... *I don't know how to speak english* Tiago: Touch my body

Paulo: Touch my body? Tiago: Yeah.

It's "toque no meu corpo (tmb)", I'm not any sort of bilingual.

Paulo: Tits

It will be like this, he will have 5 tries and I'll have 5 tries as well to discover which part one or the other is touching in the other's body.

We'll be bandaged, it should be a bandana or something but we'll use a bra.

Paulo: So you're seeing something... Tiago: Just below.

I can't even tie a bra.

Allanis: Is it ok like this? Tiago: Yeah

Allanis: You're not seeing anything, right? Tiago: Nope.

Tiago: Stop beating me! Allanis: How does he know where Paulo is?

I knew! I've won 2 points! Paulo: It wasn't!

It wasn't both.

On your shin? Paulo: Nope!

You said it was

Some leg part.

You lost. It was my butt.

Tiago: It wasn't! Paulo: It was! Wasn't it Allanis?

Let me see... Yeah, it was.

See... it was my butt! *Tiago: You changed it!*

What this small California town reveals about immigration - Duration: 7:56.

As anti-gentrification protests become all the more heated, they raise questions that

challenge some of the most accepted ideas of our time.

These movements are especially pronounced in areas of California, where diversity is

at its peak, arguably more so than anywhere else in human history.

These areas produce conflicts like the one we see here, which features a group of anti-gentrification

protesters in the heart of a Mexican-LA community.

What they were protesting was a local art gallery, operated by the accused gentrifiers,

who repeatedly assured the furious crowd that they were "on their side."

The clip was titled "Why Multiculturalism doesn't work in one video."

This led to some confusion and pushback.

Many viewers could not identify the link between anti-gentrification movements and multiculturalism.

In their view, the two issues are always detached: the anxiety surrounding gentrification is

economic, not cultural.

In fact, to many of these critics, multiculturalism is somehow synonymous with racial diversity.

The language that's spoken throughout the video is important to notice in order to fully

grasp why these protests in particular are merely a ripple within a rising tide of cultural

tension.

After all, language lies at the root of every culture.

Though it may not be immediately obvious, what ultimately drives this tension is the

unwillingness to conform to the template of what made America prosperous in the first

place.

Most important is a shared, universally accepted language.

In the absence of that, the inability to communicate effectively--by literally speaking the same

language--results in an obvious and unavoidable friction.

When an immigrant population believes that a substandard or nonexistent grasp on that

skill is acceptable, they damage the social fabric, and limit their range of opportunity

when English-speaking businessowners enter their communities.

This is largely what contributes to these communities' inability to compete with broader

society.

When immigrant protesters proclaim ownership of an entire community, the only language

they want to speak after living here for decades becomes suggestive of how they feel.

(2:50) As gentrifying businesses crop up in their communities, a replacement of some sort

is begun.

These new businesses--art galleries, cafes and restaurants--inevitably replace the old.

Discussing this becomes uncomfortable when the time comes to recognize that maybe those

previous establishments represented a different culture entirely.

The anger the sight of these new businesses produces is one that, they feel, mirrors the

MO of the country as a historical whole.

Protesters like these operate under the belief that malicious actors are trying to drive

out their people by raising rent and employing English-speakers exclusively.

In reality, it's a population being organically displaced by its insufficiency, and its unwillingness

to embrace the new opportunities that are flooding onto their doorsteps.

While these anxieties and misunderstandings occur in every society, multiculturalism widens

existing fault lines.

Where for some it's cynically economic, in others it's an affirmation of what was

commonly believed already.

Often within these communities, America is conceptualized as a nation of imperialistic

thieves.

Signs such as "Make America Mexico Again" populate the political landscape, and few

want to address the source of this deep seated resentment.

In their mind, Mexico's rampant violence and corruption can actually be traced, in

some nefarious way, to American foreign policy or business interests.

America isn't innately prosperous because of the philosophy that undergirds it--it's

a parasite whose tentacles strangle the life out of the country they came from, and gentrification

is another ploy to do the same in "their" communities.

Democrats' now mainstream calls to "Abolish ICE" validate this distrust and undercuts

their willingness to recognize America as a legitimate nation.

For these reasons, this group champions the importance of their separate "community",

elevating it above the national community it's situated within.

Residents of Boyle Heights, in this instance, seem to identify with that area as something

other than an American locality that anybody can join.

This somehow comes from the same people who believe in open borders, while protesting

new, innovative neighbors within their own communities.

In a perverse twist, it's a Mexican community that benefits from our institutions without

making any effort to continue or even understand that tradition.

This anger purposely ignores the opportunities now made available to those willing to conform

to the new order, while also lowering crime rates.

Not to mention, the idea of widespread displacement is a myth in the first place.

For these reasons, force, protests, and government intervention used to intimidate or preserve

their current position is, simply put, at the expense of progress and bullheaded.

But before we can have any of these conversations for the good of these communities and the

nation as a whole, we first must speak the same language.

This means creating a massive incentive to learn English, through both social stigma

and government policy.

To strengthen the social bonds of a rapidly changing America, we need to come around a

once-shared national ethos.

As the fight for free speech becomes one of the most important debates we have today,

we should also remember that this presumes our capability for speech period.

Without the ability to clearly communicate, there is no foundation for the building blocks

of our culture, and we will continue to seep into atomization, distrust and resentment.

And the unfortunate truth is that, within many underperforming border communities, over

half of its residents mainly speak Spanish.

For much larger metropolitan areas, such as that of Los Angeles, which is the 2nd largest

in the nation, that number is 36.7%.

In others, such as El Paso, TX, that number is a worrying 72.4%.

Clearly, though, language isn't where that conversation can end.

The widespread misunderstandings that surround the idea of "cultural appropriation" spring

to mind.

While those culturally attached to America are more than eager to wear sombreros and

kimonos in an exercise of cultural exchange, many still attached to hyphenated-Americanism

reject this as unacceptable.

But the historical record shows that by interweaving the elements of our origins into the broader

American story, we can overcome our differences and prosper together.

When you abandon the idea that your group "owns" a practice, you stop thinking of

life in this country as a zero-sum game of your group vs. the outgroup.

This mentality also reveals a serious lack of self-awareness when you consider the sheer

number of cultural contributions all of us now rely on either for pleasure or necessity.

While past immigrant groups faced much more hostility and lived in isolation from the

American community, those differences were mended in large by what would now be considered

"appropriation."

Our institutions--academic, cultural, and governmental, have failed at every turn to

urge immigrants to adopt those norms and traditions, and in fact make it their mission to do the

exact opposite.

This is all based on the failed experiment that emphasizing our differences is what makes

us great.

Except, our differences only put more distance between us if they don't manifest within

a shared social fabric.

Hamfistedly insisting that your communities are a chamber insulated from the broader nation

as well as its history and linguistic bonds undermines that cause.

Ultimately, gentrification, if anything, is one of the greatest calls to assimilation.

It depicts the flourishing that can be enjoyed by every member of American society if only

they're willing to embrace it.
