Don Miguel Ruiz author of The Four Agreements
has a brand new book the three questions let's take a look inside today on all
things perceptual this book begins with a parable about an old man in old times
driving his wagon down a muddy road in a rainstorm when the old man's wagon
becomes stuck in a pothole and the wheel breaks a capable farm boy comes to his
rescue after much time spent in the rain the wheel is fixed and the wagon is up
and running again having no coins to pay the farm boy the
old man offers him three pearls of wisdom that if used throughout his life
will bring him more riches than any coins these three pearls of wisdom are
of course the three questions that you must ask yourself first Who am I
second what is real and third what is love the old man explains that you will
know who you are when you see who you are not you will know what is real when
you accept what is not real and you will know love when you realize what love is
not the first part of the book asks the question Who am I such a simple question
may sound innocent and simplistic but Don Miguel Ruiz dives deep into what
goes into the creation of a typical human personality from the moment we are
brought into this world we learn words and mimic how to put them together we
learn to talk to ourselves and are told how the world is and we believe all of
it as we grew up we developed opinions and our opinions rule our actions in an
automatic pattern we react to situations without thought the sad truth is that
most of us are on autopilot most of the time and you might be thinking not me
I'm a very mindful person I've been doing spiritual work for years I know
exactly who I am you wouldn't be thinking that
automatically would you word by word and page by page the question of Who am I is
broken down like a mirror and placed right in front of your face and the
automatic mind is revealed the authors don't leave any room for the reader to
sit back and simply muse about the facets of the personal ego the reader is
brought into the examination and asked the question who am i right then and
there as you read luckily this state of
automatic living can be remedied questioning the self gives us an
opportunity to choose how we want to live a second chance to reinvent the
self if you will the thing is that everyone has a story and that's just
what it is a story we are the one who maintains and
up keeps and even defends this story we have the power to edit that story we can
rewrite ourselves and become the artist of our own creation our self then as if
questioning everything about the self wasn't enough the second question what
is real sets the reader up for a literal transformation of how we perceive our
world just like it says in the book on page 88 by asking the question what is
real we're challenging what we think we know nothing is quite as we imagine it
again think of the brain as a mirror if our hands reached out for an image of a
mirror we would touch glass if we tried to physically reach for Thought we
couldn't the second question points out the fact
that we live in a world of rules and that we rarely gaze beyond those rules
the book does mention that when we fall asleep those rules become irrelevant
while we're dreaming anything can happen in a dream but when we wake up those
rules fall right back into place there is a moment though right when we wake up
when we're not quite sure where we are or who we are then we quickly put the
pieces together in an automatic fashion we've done this so many times that we
don't even notice it we put our personal story together
in a fraction of a second and then we're ready to face the day under scrutiny we
can find again that our reality breaks down to a story that we tell ourselves
our story is full of things and characters that we think we know but do
we really if we can learn to question ourselves to question our world then we
can get closer to the truth if we think less and pay attention to what we're
really feeling we can break free from the barriers of the mind and live
harmoniously with what is real now for the final piece of the transformation
next the book asks the question what is love love is often talked about but
less commonly examined most people have been taught to love with conditions I
love you if I love you if you put me first I love you if you do what I want
you to do it might sound funny but it also sounds a little familiar
unconditional love might be scary or difficult to think about but Don Miguel
Ruiz suggests that there is only one place to start by loving ourselves
unconditionally
the authors of this book do point out that self-love isn't egotism and I'm
quoting from page 143 the ego is me wanting attention and adulation love is
the energy that runs through us and all around us when we share love we're
sharing our lifeforce when we give ourselves love we're acknowledging what
we really are when we nurture affection and respect for our human body the seeds
of love begin to grow we're loving ourselves when we give the body the
benefit of every doubt we're respecting ourselves when we treat the mind like
our creation because it is if we monitor our thoughts we can better understand
the minds language we can become respectful diplomats softening our words
and encouraging the best friend we'll ever have we can be patient and
attentive for the sake of a great love affair your body is the love of your
life the relationship you have with your body affects all relationships
loving yourself without conditions can heal the biggest divisions in your world
it can reconnect you with the force of energy that made your world possible
anyone who wants to see the world through a fresh pair of eyes ought to
have this book on their reading list no book summary can compare to the real
thing and even if this one little book may not be sufficient to change the
course of humanity it's at least a step in the right direction what is your

comment section below and if this is your first time here I would be honored
