I wrote an article about

residual load and flexibility

People constantly ask me

these concepts

They told me that

the content was too hard

and wished that I introduce them

in a more simple way

Thus in this episode

we shall discuss

the paradigm of the new power system:

its logic and its implications.

Title: Residual Load and Flexibility

Before introducing

the new mindset

we must make it clear

what types of services

the generators provide

Although they can provide

many types of services;

at the end of the day

it breaks down to two main function:

the first is

whether a generator can provide

abundant energy with low costs;

the second is

whether it can supply

the flexibility needed

because of load variations.

With this knowledge,

we can see how

the conventional mindset of

base-mid-peak load is formed.

Coal, gas, and hydro:

these conventional plants

are classified into

"baseload plants"

that give low cost electricity,

and "peak load plants"

that gives flexibility

to meet the load variations,

according to their unique technological

and economical properties.

Because "baseload plants"

have lowest annual costs

if they are run

all day long.

So in the past

they were run

24-7

around the clock.

The problem for

wind and solar is that

when they are fed

abundantly onto the grid

this base-mid-peak load model

will gradually lose its merit.

The main reason is that

wind and solar cannot

hold constant power output

as "baseload plants";

neither can they

fully dispatch

according to

the load variation

and provide

flexibility as "peakload plants".

So there exists one theory

Since wind and solar,

those variable renewables,

they do not belong to

base, mid, nor peak load,

they therefore should not be

wildely fed onto the grid and utilized.

However such claim

falls under what

Australian scientist Mark Diesendorf

proposed in 2010:

"Baseload Fallacy"

We introduced the

base-mid-peak load model

in order to explain

how conventional plants provide

the two main services of generators

But the dispatchment model

is not the service itself.

So when a new generation technology comes out

it makes more sense

to ask whether

the services can still be met

with this technology being applied

than to ask whether

it satisfies

the original model

And it has been proven

that power systems can work fine

after large amount of VRE is fed onto grid

But under such circumstances

it would be more meaningful

to use another model

instead of the conventional

base-mid-peak load model.

This model is to

differentiate the load

into the output of variable renewable energy

and residual load

The rationale behind this mindset is

we should first feed VRE onto the grid

as much as possible

then we decide how we can supply

the rest of the demand load

Under this model

the two services of the generators

can still be met.

VRE with zero marginal costs

such as wind and solar

they will provide

abundant and cheap bulk energy;

the other

dispatchable power plants

such as hydro, geo, bio, and gas

will satisfy

the flexibility requirement from residual load variations

Naturally this new model

will bring some paradigm shift

on the power system

Here we first show

two most obvious changes

The first is the change of the power output curve

which will cause an increase

for flexibility requirements

of the power system.

Such thing occurs

mainly because

when VRE is fed onto the grid

in very large scale

the variations of residual load

will be more obvious than the past.

The most famous example

is the change of the power output curves

of Germany these years.

We can see that

in the first week of 2018

VRE (mostly wind)

has been constantly lowering

the traditional "baseload plants"

such as brown coal or nuclear.

What is more important

is that you can see

the variations of residual load

is greater than that of the demand load.

To cope with this

new norm on the market

conventional plants in Germany

enhanced their flexibility a lot in recent years.

The second is

the change of residual load duration curve

which leads to structural changes of conventional plants

To explain this

we might need the graph below

to make it easier to understand

Under different

operation hours

conventional plants will have

different unit costs

These operation hours

will correspond to

the best allocation of capacity

between "base" and "peak" load plants

That's because "baseload plants"

will have cost efficiency

only when running for enough time

therefore we can see

on the residual load duration curve

the optimized capacity for

"baseload plants"

and also the optimized capacity

for "peak load plants".

When variable renewables

are fed in a large scale

they will lead to

a downshift of RLDC

This will lead to

a reduced optimized capacity of "baseload"

while an increase of "peak load".

This is because

though the optimized running time does not change

the capacity corresponded to that time

on the RLDC

would be sharply reduced due to

VRE installation.

From these two examples we see that

when VRE are installed

onto the grid largely

the roles of

"baseload plants"

in the power system

will gradually disappear

The replacement will be

dispatchable plants

with faster response rate

and more flexibility

that could satisfy the remaining

residual load variations

The term "residual load"

was first used in Germany

at around 2009

Over the past decade

literature in Europe has widely used it

On the other hand

in US or Australia

"net load" is more often used

in their literature.

But the concept is the same.

What we need to do is to first discuss

how much power do

wind and solar produce

then we discuss

how to satisfy the rest of the demand

If we want to discuss

how popular this "VRE first"

mindset currently is,

the most famous example

may be the "global status report"

published by REN21 last year (2017)

It dedicated a section

to discuss

the "deconstruction of baseload"

Of course REN21

is an organization dedicated

for promotion of energy transition

But IEA (which historically closely related to fossil fuel industries)

also talks similarly in the report

Status of Power System Transformation this year (2018)

It called for a discussion

returning to the original

two services of generators:

energy volume (bulk energy) and energy option (flexibility);

the base-mid-peak load model

is not necessary in such discussion

From these examples we can see

such way of discussing power systems

is gradually becoming the mainstream.

We also hope that

the discussions of

transition of power systems in Taiwan

would also start to use

this kind of mindset

to analyze the issues to come.

thank you thank you for everything today what you were saying all morning um I

think I forgot but about I've been getting ready to get ready for a really

long time and following you at that and like lots of almost everything is coming

together at once a lot of this path let's tie that phrase in getting ready

to be ready to be ready so if you're just looking for a satisfying feeling

now then you're ready for the next and the next and the next and the next

that's how you get ready to be ready you just stay ready you're just ready you're

on deck so that you're in the receptive mode which means you've got your radio

on and your tuner set and you're just waiting for the information to flow

because the revelation is coming from your source to you all the time the

question is are you ready to receive it are you ready to translate it are you

ready to take on the huge frequency that this electric current is and are you

ready to utilize it in a way that it's meaningful in your life experience

because it's big is bigger than most can contain that's what's going on and

that's what I'm feeling and so thank you for that because what I do feel that in

moment to moment and be in this present now yes it's like this is happening this

is huge well usually the reason if it feels big like that usually this is

what's happening you're believing that you're under the influence of source and

you are sort of kind of often but when you're not you're trying to make it

happen you're trying to push the noodle and it's what we've been calling trying

too hard so it's trying to sort of think it into place or will it into place its

what goal sitters do and fake it till you make it or do and trying to make it

so because I say it so that's the world I've lived in for a long time and I

guess it's hard to break away from that so it's not hard to break away when you

just ask yourself the simple statement is this a satisfying thought or

satisfying impulse because it never is when you're trying to force something it

always feels tense yeah exactly we're so in the change on the changes of

everything then some chaos will show up and then the chaos then I'm under the

influence of something but chaos now think about what the chaos

is the chaos that shows up is just a representation a thoughts turning to

things perfect manifestation of the maybe subtle vibrational dysfunction

that you had going on that you didn't recognize if you've got a vibration of

desire and the vibration of doubt going on and you keep playing with both of

them so that the momentum of both of them keeps being a factor then when

these thoughts turn to things they are chaotic in nature you see what we do so

all it means is you didn't flick the spark off soon enough that's all it

means there's yeah there's clutter with that because when you're not doing the

unsatisfying part of this equation so you're only really encouraging the

satisfying parts now you're practicing the vibration of alignment and as that

momentum becomes bigger and bigger things just keep working out and you get

in a feeling of flow and we're not ever trying to guide you away from chaos or

from negative emotion or away from contrast because all of those things are

necessary for the expansion and the motion forward we just think that you

have practiced enduring far more than you ever needed to you're having a

rougher ride in life than you need to have and the thing that we most want to

emphasize so much so that you really maybe get it it's all self-inflicted

it's all self induced even though it feels like somebody else did it to you

they never did you know how maybe you're debating with

someone and you have two opposing positions on something and you're sure

you're right and the other ones sure that they're right and you're talking to

each other and each is hopeful that they will convince the other have you ever

done that friend of mine has yeah right

exactly the more you try to convince them the more they dig in to their

existing position and the more you try to convince them they dig in the more

you try to convince them the more you dig in so you just get more dug in and

more dug in and more dug in well what we would like to help you to see is that

it's just you and you all the time doing that it's like your desires

sometimes contradict your beliefs and your beliefs sometimes contradict your

desires so you've got this little battle going on Esther had an experience we

keep telling the story because it was so good we'll give you an abbreviated

version of it in case you've heard it we've been telling it for a few weeks

she was in Del Mar she has a house in the guest house there and she'd been

gone for a while she sat at her desk and looked out to where the ocean should be

and couldn't see it because the plants on the fence line had grown over and

they were blocking her view so our gardeners were there that day and she

asked them if they would just trim those trees and bushes back so she could see

the ocean they said they would do that and then they said but there's a tree

down in the ravine that might be part of the problem

and Esther said we'll do whatever you need to do but I only own half of the

ravines so just make sure it's on my property before you do anything to it so

then off she went to lunch with a friend and when she came back she was gone for

several hours and when she came back she stood on her deck and looked and she

could see the ocean again she was so happy it's back and then she looked out

a little ways and she saw something that was so upsetting to her she saw two very

large tree stumps up close to the neighbor's property and she thought how

could they have misunderstood me she could see the ocean but she thought I

don't know how this happened I'm going to jail so she worried about it for a

day or two and stood about it and then she tried to make herself feel better

that house is being renovated and maybe its new owners and maybe they don't know

those trees were there and then a couple of days later she saw a man standing out

there in a suit looking at the stumps and she thought I better go confess he

took his camera out he was taking a picture of them so she had never been to

the house that took her a while to find it it's on a hill she didn't know if it

was a road down that went up or a road up that went down so by the time she got

over there he was no longer there and all the way she practiced her speech I

did this and I didn't mean to and I'll do whatever you want me to do to make it

right I'll plant new trees I'll plant your whole yard I am so sorry but he

wasn't there so she didn't deliver her speech she went home and then the next

day she went out to lunch with the same friend again and when they got back she

said come and see what I did and she took him to the lower house out to look

she pointed at the trees my gardeners cut those down I asked them to clear my

view and look what they did and he looked and he said after your gardeners

didn't just cut those trees down yesterday where's all the debris why is

the hillside not torn up and Esther thought oh and then they walked out to

the edge and there was a little tree up close to Esther's property about that

big around and all the debris from what was still lying right there by it right

where the gardeners had cut it and all that had happened is that they had cut a

little tree and opened a view so that Esther saw

something she didn't usually see was circumstantial evidence and it really

should guest her up because she had believed it and it was a ridiculous

thing to believe wasn't even rational to think that those men two men could have

cut down those giant trees in an afternoon and hauled it all away it

didn't even make any sense but the circumstantial evidence made her

believe it and she believed that she had been the cause of that and then she

thought said told everyone I bet there's all kinds of stupid stuff I believe that

isn't true that's in the way beliefs that you've picked up from somebody else

or from some piece of something that you just keep bringing forward and then it

blocks your ability to know what's up right now

so that's really the point that we're making Esther's a smart girl and she

knows about stuff how she got off on that ten

her desire to be a good neighbor is really strong and her worry that she

might not always be a good neighbor because she has a lot of landscaping a

lot of plants and she's all the time trimming trees so that the people behind

her on the hill can see and she's not there very much so she wants to fit into

the neighborhood she cares about that but maybe she's been under the influence

you think of some things that haven't really been under in other words so it

was easy for her to assume the worst of herself even though she knew her motives

were pure and how often do you feel that way about things where you want to do

what's right but you're not really sure that you are there are a lot of beliefs

that people hold that are in your way of your absolute awareness of worthiness

you think all kinds of things about yourself that your inner being just does

not think and we think it's a good time for you to start sorting these out we

think that every time you have an unsatisfying feeling that you might want

to stop and ask yourself what am I thinking about and how does my inner

beam feel about that until you can show yourself who you really are and only

then will you really be living happily ever after as you have intended yes yes

yes and thanking where you touch like that interesting a bunch of beliefs and

it's just talked about relationship to a relationship with my body some of the

stuff I'm called to is leadership and I'm up on the stage and then afterwards

I'm like what if I done if I put protection here and then someone told me

a belief that I'm an empath so other people might project stuff or I'll hold

on to other thankful kind of thing that we're talking about yeah we've been

talking about under the influence you like the conversation am i under the

influence of my inner beam or am i under the influence of something else

so this empath is that what you called it if someone who is near someone else

who is having strong thoughts and feelings so you go along with what they

are feeling rather than staying tuned to who you really are and the reason that

you might do that or anyone might do that is because what you can hear and

see and smell and taste and touch is more evidence more circumstantial

evidence and humans do this thing who we have not had this conversation before

humans do this thing where you stand in a manifestation and

let's just be real every moment is a manifestation isn't it here we are in

this manifestation of this room together this is a manifestation people what they

commonly do that does not serve them is that they stand in the manifestation and

then they try to deduce what caused it instead of just acknowledging like it or

don't like it don't like it think I'll move on instead they want so much to

explain why this moment is like it is how they got there who said what who

meant what who did what and so you just keep yourself twirled up in all of this

stuff where you have no power practicing vibrations that are not your

own until you've got momentum about thoughts that are not true that are in

the way of desires that are real does a nice little run of explanation and you

heard it didn't you yes very much so so get under the influence before you

take any action just for a little while we're asking two things of you if you

want meditate so that you can feel what true satisfaction feels like and then

begin for a while to ask yourself frequently through the day is this a

satisfying thing I'm doing are these satisfying words I'm speaking are these

satisfying thoughts that I'm thinking and if you catch it early enough you can

change them and you can change your patterns of thoughts this is what

bridging beliefs is all about you have the ability very simply to bridge your

beliefs into alignment with what your inner being knows about you so just to

be clear there's doubt which is completely not under the influence of

your inner being there's belief that's moving more toward

what you're in and then there's knowing your inner being knows you because your

inner being is you your inner being is the you without resistance your inner

being is the essence of everything that you've asked for without resistance

that's who you are that's who you are as non-physical that's who you were as you

made the to come into this physical body all

resistance you have picked up and are picking up along your physical trail

your inner being is pure positive energy so as you start leaning toward more and

more satisfying thoughts you're more in sync with your inner being which means

oh the leverage that you have the leverage towards success and the

standard of success that we're talking about is the success of the joyous

moment in time that you are meant to be living you see step one is contrast

causes you to ask step two is source answers it and the law of attraction

gathers all the co-operative components and maybe you'll be one of them step

three is you are one of them you're in the receiving mode so that you're

receiving the impulses from your inner being step four is you're really good at

that you've been practicing it it's funny step four is just doing really

good at step three but that's what step four is being a master of step three so

that you just know when you're in the receiving modern when you're not and you

mean to be there and so you are mostly Step five is having a contrasting moment

but not being an empath to the moment instead staying connected to the source

energy while you're having the moment a contrasting moment that your inner being

is aware of or observing isn't the same kind of contrasting moment that you may

be living when your inner being is with you in a contrasting moment it's a

moment of choices like being at a buffet often when you are having a contrasting

moment feels to you often that like things are after you when they're not

like you're being defeated when you're not you following and so thank you very

much really good

Top 10 Weirdest Items Confiscated From Prison Inmates - Duration: 5:57.

How's it going all of you most amazing top 10ers?

I'm your host Landon Dowlatsingh and welcome back to another most amazing top 10 video.

You guys seem to really like the prison themed top 10 lists so let me know what top 10 video

you would like to see us do next.

Life in prison can be extremely boring and inmates have a lot of spare time on their

hands.

A lot of inmates like to create items that can get them in trouble so let's take a

look at the top 10 weirdest items confiscated from prison inmates.

Starting us off in at number 10 with the Towel "blow up doll".

Apparently, there were some frisky inmates in one prison who thought it would be a good

idea to create their very own blow up doll in prison.

Since blow up dolls are forbidden in jail, they had to get creative.

So, they collected a bunch of towels and they would soak them in water and twist them into

whatever shape they wanted.

They bound the towels together with ripped clothes and they gave it a human shape.

These prisoners shared their doll with everyone so when the prison guards found it, it was

brown, moldy and smelt like a rotting corpse.

Ew, that is so disgusting.

The grossest chess pieces slide into number 9.

It's no secret that solitary confinement can cause inmates to go temporarily insane.

Well, for this inmate he took things to a whole other level.

While he was in solitary, he made chess pieces with his pooh and then he would play chess

with himself.

He would even eat the pieces as they were jumped.

Now in at number 8 we have a Mouse House.

A lonely inmate used a plastic storage container and decked it out to make it into a cage for

his "pet" mouse.

It had small windows, an exercise wheel and it even had an improvised water holder.

The cage had a sign that read "Mouse House."

Well, once the guards found this, they released the mouse outside and confiscated the mouse

house.

I bet this poor inmate was very sad that he lost his friend.

Chewing gum gets stuck in at number 7.

You might be surprised but chewing gum gets confiscated a lot in prisons.

Gum is banned in prisons for several reasons but aside from having the potential to make

a mess on the floors, gum is banned because convicts use it to make impressions of the

officer's keys if they are plan ing to escape.

Gum is also banned because inmates can use it to jam the locks on their cell doors.

Number 6 takes us over to Candy bars.

I know what you must be thinking, why would a delicious candy bar be confiscated from

prisons.

Well as it turns out, prisoners have turned chocolate candy bars into horrific and violent

weapons by melting them down using illegal hot plates.

They would then take the scolding hot chocolate and throw it in the face of a snitch or their

enemy.

A cardboard pistol fires into number 5.

Making fake guns in prison is actually much more common than you might think.

Obviously, they don't have the potential to cause any real harm but some prisoners

in the past have used their fake guns to escape prison.

So a lot of cardboard and wooden pistols are confiscated every day from prison.

Next in at number 4 is A colouring book.

I know this seems pretty innocent and you're probably wondering why a prison guard would

confiscate a little colouring book from an inmate but there is actually a very good reason

for this.

A mother of a prison inmate dissolved a drug into a paste and painting it onto a colouring

book and sent it off to her son.

She wanted to make it look like a child coloured it so she scribbled over the pages and put

"To Daddy" on the envelope.

The prison guards received a tip, confiscated the colouring book and tested the pages for

drugs.

The prisoner received additional time and the mother was charged as well.

Crossbow shoots into number 3.

A prison inmate made their very own crossbow with common things that you can find in a

prison.

He made this deadly weapon using toothbrushes, twine and straws.

Whoa, if he is easily able to make a crossbow with these simple things, I think he should

be transferred to a high security max prison.

That's actually insane, who is this inmate, the real life MacGyver?

Number 2 takes us to a Toilet paper shiv.

I know it's not uncommon for prison guards to confiscate shivs, but one prisoner got

super creative and created a deadly weapon with soft toilet paper.

I guess he was short on toothbrushes and razors because he spent the time making a papier-Mache

shank out of toilet paper.

Finally in at number 1 is A disgusting pillow case.

An inmate started his very own collection of severed pigeon heads.

He would use bread to lure them to his window and then he would rip their heads off and

stuff their heads into his pillow case.

I bet he was quickly transferred to a mental health facility to get analyzed.

Well there you guys have it…

Promoting religious freedom is strategic - Duration: 2:53.

"The United States has always since it's founding had an

agenda for religious freedom." "My name is Luke Perez. I'm a

postdoctoral fellow at the Kinder Institute in political

thought and constitutionalism." "Contemporary people —

citizens, policy elites, just about everyone — tends to

think of national security only in those things we can see.

Tanks and aircraft carriers, military power, diplomacy, etc.

But a lot of times, what international politics are about

are these things you really can't see like protecting other

people's religious faith overseas. Which seems

counterintuitive, right? Why would the United States want to

protect the rights of religious minorities in China or Iran or

Latin America?" "Allahu akbar!" "If you're reading about it in

The New York Times, then yeah, it's already a huge problem."

"Oftentimes, when policy makers are looking at the world and

they want to know the state of a particular country, one of the

easiest ways to do that is just to look at how religious

minorities are being treated. If religious minorities are being

treated respectfully and they're giving the space to practice

their faith, you have a pretty good sense that everyone else,

regardless of what their views are — whether they're gays or

women or another minority group." "It allows them to look

at a country and say hey, they're doing pretty good or

maybe this country isn't doing so great." "You have these

countries where ethnic strife is religious strife is every kind

of other political strife." "I think this is the most important

foreign policy issue of our day — religious freedom." The U.S.

is the only superpower with an office dedicated to

international religious freedom. "From getting political

prisoners who have religious faith released from whatever

exile or political prison they're in out or giving grants

to foreign groups, they're all over the map." "It is certainly

possible to take a step back. To the extent that the United

States has been taking a step back, it's been happening for a

lot longer than a lot of people realized." "I believe that a

significant portion of our foreign policy officials today

no longer believe that religious freedom is 'the first freedom.'"

"The problem's getting worse." Critics say the U.S. now plays

defense on international religious freedom. "The State

Department has really kind of fallen asleep at the wheel

sometimes and has only focused at mitigating persecutions once

they've begun, this kind of post-hoc, after-the-fact."

"Somebody who doesn't really have religious faith might be a

little more skeptical about wondering why it's the

government's job to protect it, especially if they think that

it's religious faith that's the cause of conflict and never a

solution to conflict. When, in fact, religion can be both. It

can be a cause of conflict and of peace."

Redstone Tutorial: How to Make Armor Stands Pose - Duration: 6:51.

Hey guys! NateOne23, here and welcome to another video where today I'm going to be doing another redstone tutorial!

So, uh last time

Last redstone tutorial was about nine months ago and

Got 208 views by now

And obviously I need to do more of that because I only care about the views and none of you! :D So yeah anyways

So, yeah because I got so many views you guys obviously liked it so let's do some more redstone tutorials

So I have this website here and like it says in the title

we're gonna be doing some poses for the

armorstands, so this website

I'll link it down in the description. it basically, it allows you to do the

armor stands and positions and stuff without having to

Know how to do all of the commands and all the "fancy weird stuff"

So this does the commands for you so you can rotate it like that

You can

rotate the head and

on all the axises pretty much and all of them and

You can also do all these fancy things like invisible once it's in the game

Invulnerable also you can that way you can never break it or anything

You can have it have no base plate, which I'm going to do that. No gravity

Which if you break the block under it, it won't fall

So arms, which that way you can move the arms and stuff like that and that's how you can pose it

You can also make it a baby armor stand

You can also enable equipment which, I'm not going to do that right now

but you can just you can go to the enter to the text IDs, so not the number but the text so like

for the chestplate it would be like minecraft:

It's like diamond_chestplate or something

but there's this website that you can go to that will link all the item IDs and

Yeah, it's really easy to do it that way

So, I'm not gonna enable equipment because I can just put it on afterwards

But because I am a walking dead meme,

I'm just... I'm gonna make it dab

Yeah, so there we go. Now I have a dabbing armorstand so you can also

In here you can also

in the helmet you can do an item name.

Which is basically just for helmets and stuff. A player name, so if I were to do that and put

nATEoNE2- Oh, I have caps! NateOne23

It's just a ghost head here, but in the game once you spawn them in,

It will have my head on it and then you can also do an image URL which will basically put an image on it

So if you wanted to put like a grass block or something you could do that

and then give code, "You can find lots of different heads here pick one cut and copy the give code into-"

Yeah

So this will-.. minecraftheads.com, that will

Give you the head that you want so you don't have to know the player name. So

You can also show a custom name here, which is basically for a name tag, so

Yeah, I did

I did all the- So this is a lot more fancy than just posing

But this tutorial is just for posing. I'm just gonna save this

So once once you have that you just basically copy this or click it

So I'm just going to highlight it press ctrl C or right click copy.

Then I'm gonna go back into Minecraft in a second

so yeah, now we're now we're in minecraft and we just place on a command block or

If you don't know how to give yourself a command block you just do

/give @p command_block

So all you need to do is paste the command into this command block

as you can see

It's the command that was in the website. Just press done, you get a button

Or some kind of redstone source, place it down, and there you go!

You have the dabbing- (chuckling) the dabbing armorstand, so

Yes, that's pretty cool.

I can't believe I made this.. What have I done with my life (dying)

Well, yeah, so I seem to be really obsessed with armor stands because last time

Last time we did a tutorial

We literally made it so that you can get a bow over here

Shoot an arrow and this will teleport. Yeah. It's a teleporting dabbing- (completely dying)

That's great. So yeah

Also, reason why I didn't talk in the last redstone tutorial is because I was sick, but

It still came out as a pretty good tutorial anyways

But anyway, so I hope you all enjoyed this video

If we can get this video to 5 likes then I will continue the series

But yeah, so I hope you all enjoyed this video and if you did make sure to hit that like button

And subscribe to join the creepers. So yeah

That's about it for today. But in the meantime, just remember fight till the Ender! Go down in the description below to

Have the links to the website and follow me on Facebook and Twitter and your my discord server. So yeah

That's about it for today, so, see ya guys!
