Best Upcoming Indie Games for PC Spring 2019 - Duration: 8:12.
In this video I'll be showing you the best upcoming indie games for PC that are slated
to be released during the Spring of 2019 in the turn-based tactics, RPG and citybuilder/tycoon
genres!
But if this is your first time on my channel, Good mornin-afternoo-vening, I'm StefaNonsense
and gaming and geek culture is what I do.
This is a new series of videos I'm doing this year to spotlight more games than I can
actually play, so without further ado let's begin with this list.
Druidstone: The Secret of the Menhir Forrest
Is a tactical, turn-based RPG that promises to be one hell of an experience, at least
according to the devs and some of the previews I've seen.
Druidstone is being made by the creators of the Legend of Grimrock games and considering
how those games are more or less responsible for re-energizing the old school first person
dungeon crawler genre, the game does have some pedigree for infusing oldschool gaming
with modern mechanics.
From the trailer available the game looks well-animated, colorful and definitely has
a bit of a Divinity Original Sin crossed with X-Com vibe going on.
As an extra bit of info, the developers have decided to release their mission editor post-launch
to let the mod community go crazy with their game.
Druidstone is scheduled for release something this spring.
Foundation
Citybuilders are back, baby!
I've been saying that citybuilders are coming back for a couple of years now and 2019 might
just be the year where they return to the attention of an even wider public.
Foundation is one citybuilding title that has the potential to become a major name in
the genre, a grid-less, medieval-themed city builder which focuses on the organic development
of your settlements and on monument creation.
The game was successfully Kickstarted in March of 2018 - full disclosure, I am backer of
the game - and it promises to supply a solid experience of highly customizable settlement
building, monument construction as well as coming with full modding support.
I like how focused the developers have been both on working on the game as well as keeping
their community updated on what is going on with the development process.
I am super excited to play Foundation and looking forward to it going into Early Access
at the beginning of 2019.
Forager
This blend of Terraria, Stardew Valley crossed with Don't Starve is scheduled for a January
release and its cartoony pixel art aesthetic, mellow music and constant activity is poised
to eat up a lot of my time this 2019.
Just like in most of those other titles, you have to gather resources, process them into
further resources in order to build and craft more advanced buildings and better objects.
You do all of this in order to explore the land around you and level up your character.
I played the Humble demo and enjoyed it tremendously and you can find our more details by watching
my video about it by clicking on the card in the upper right corner right here.
Fort Triumph is a title that offers a very X-Com-like tactical turn-based experience
set in a very tongue-in-cheek fantasy world.
This would have been enough to sell me on the concept if it were executed well enough
but when I played the demo I was very pleasantly surprised to find a pretty heavy Heroes of
Might and Magic influence inside as well.
The game has been in Early Access since April 2018 and is expected to reach final release
form sometime at the beginning of 2019.
Check out my gameplay video of Fort Triumph to get a better idea of what the game has
to offer.
Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure
Changing gears for a bit here.
Gibbous is an honest to goodness old school inspired point-and-click adventure in the
vein of the old LucasArts games.
As the title implies this will be a Cthulhu-themed game but it's a highly comedic approach
to the subject.
The animations are classic hand-drawn frame by frame, the voice cast is solid and the
amount of pop culture references in the thing is definitely sure to cause madness in anyone
trying to find all of them.
I played and reviewed the demo during the game's Kickstarter campaign back in 2017
and you can find it here if you want more details.
Gibbous is expected to be released sometime in the first quarter of 2019, Cthulhu willing.
Workers and Resources
Having lived most of the first 27 years of my life in a post-Communist country, the Soviet-themed
everything that can be seen in this resource management/tycoon game is something that is
extremely familiar to me on a very personal level.
The implementation of the Soviet theme in terms of the planned economy is what truly
interests me since we're kinda sure by now that Soviet-style Communism hasn't had the
best track record out there...yeah...
The game is expected to go into Early Access at the beginning of 2019.
So make sure to keep an eye out for it, comrade, DA?
Encased is the only turn-based post-apocalyptic RPG on this list, although I do expect more
such-titles to sprout up as the year progresses.
The devs promise a sci-fi world that will react to player actions, the presence of an
unstable entity AI within an alien and mysterious Dome, filled with weird phenomenon, advanced
technology and warring factions.
The game world will keep track of what you do in terms of crimes as well as the decisions
that will influence the plot.
It will then react to said crimes and decisions.
Encased sounds like an oldschool RPG version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and that sounds cool as
hell, and it's planned to enter Early Access at the start of 2019.
Seeds of Resilience is a survival, crafting, sort of citybuilder, set on a traditional
square grid but with a bit of a twist.
It is turn based.
Your party of survivors is shipwrecked on an island and they have to gather resources
to survive and craft shelters to protect them from the elements.
The survival aspect seems to be the second-most important feature of the game after its turn-based
nature because the deserted island that your survivors will be lucky enough to come upon
will be constantly hit with all manner of natural disasters.
Despite the constant assault of the elements, you'll be tasked with gathering, harvesting
and crafting yourself a medieval-level of technology village from the ground up.
One other interesting feature that the game offers is that each gathered resource or transformation
of raw material will have a distinct impact on the environment, which is something you'll
have to consider.
The game is already in Early Access and will hopefully see a full release sometime during
the spring of 2019.
I played the Kickstarter demo of Fell Seal - Arbiter's Mark back in October of 2017
and after the successful campaign the developers took a bit of time and then released the game
into Early Access in August of 2018.
The game is a heavily JRPG/manga/anime inspired turn-based tactical combat game with a solid
focus on storytelling and challenging battles.
As you should expect from the JRPG influence, the game features a plethora of classes and
class variants for your characters, their own attribute and skill systems, crafting
and a whole lot more.
I enjoyed playing the demo very much and the developers have built a great community around
their game, which you can find on their Discord channel.
The game is scheduled for an April release and you can bet your asses I'll be playing
once it's out.
Othercide
Finishing off my list with what is by far the moodiest and thematically-rich title,
Othercide is presented to be a horror-infused tactical turn-based game with some twists
to how combat will function and a deeply disturbing mystery to explore.
The title caught my attention but it is the art style that really got me interested, the
black and white art direction with touches of red making the gameplay footage look like
a highly stylized cross between a noir and classic horror movie.
The developers say that the turn-based aspect of the game will be approached somewhat differently
and that the gameplay itself will be brutal, featuring permadeath and tough sacrifices
that will have to be made in order to end up victorious.
Not much else is known about the title other than it is projected to be released either
in full or Early Access sometime at the beginning of 2019.
These are the titles that I am most looking forward to checking out during the spring
of 2019, let me know in the comments if any of these tickle your fancies and if you have
other indie titles that you're looking forward to.
Thank you for watching, be kind, subscribe and I'll seeya next time.

IMPORTANT FINAL STEP IN LEARNING BUTTERFLY @ Swimmate - Duration: 11:47.
Welcome to my channel in previous videos you have hopefully learned how to do all the different
Technical elements in butterfly swimming
in today's we are going to cover how to combine all the elements
Helping you to swim butterfly perfectly and also easily
To achieve the correct technique for butterfly swimming
It is important to do each movement at the right time
So you should do the movement of the body, arms and legs at the exact time that each movement is required
However, the time for the movements can vary slightly for each swimmer
For example, the kicks can be done a little earlier or a little later
In this video, I will talk about the standard timing of these movements that should be suitable for everyone
In one complete stroke, the swimmer will perform an arm stroke, the back movements and two kicks
Each of these technical elements was discussed in the previous butterfly lessons on my channel
If you skipped something about butterfly technique, you'll find it in the previous videos
While swimming, it is important to do as few extra movements as possible
These extra movements lead to increase water resistance
Additional water resistance slows down your swimming speed
So, do only the movements that will push you forward
In the beginning of the arm stroke, your body should be stretched forwards
Your legs and back are straight and close to the water surface
While doing the arm stroke, your legs are starting to move up
towards the water surface to get ready to kick
Pay attention, your legs should not rise out of the water during swimming
When you move your legs up, you should continue doing the arm stroke
One very important thing to take note of
You should finish the arm stroke at the same time as performing the first kick
If you do these elements correctly
You will feel a strong speed increase
if your legs and arms perform their movements at the wrong time
The swimming won't be as efficient
The main idea of doing the end part of the arm stroke at the same time as the kick
is to get the highest possible speed
Swimming forwards and returning the hands forward with the least possible resistance
For example, if you legs kick earlier than needed your arm stroke technique can suffer
But more importantly, after the arm stroke you won't get that high speed
and your hand return will be done when you speed is much slower
Imagine one boat moving at a low speed
and another boat moving at a high speed
The boat which goes faster rises from the water and goes above the water
Therefore, the water resistance doesn't become a problem because the boat has the shape and position
That allows it to keep the resistance as low as possible
However, the boat the goes slowly has its body sinking in the water and the water resistance is high
The same applies to swimmers
if there is no speed after the arm stroke, the body won't rise from the water
So it will be deep in the water
The speed will immediately slow down and it will be difficult to perform the hand-return
Many swimmers stayed too deep in the water while swimming,
which leads to difficulties in performing the movements and their speed slows down
This is why, the kicks must be done when the arm stroke is being finished
After the arm stroke, you should immediately start returning your hands forward and take the breath
These two technical elements are done together
Just in the very end of the arm stroke, you should start moving your head up
And as soon as your hands are out of the water, you take the breath
Straight after the breath, you should move your head down into water
before the hands enter the water surface in front
When your hands enter the water, you should do the second kick which is a bit stronger than the first one
in the video, Alexander performs the second kick a little later then what I would recommend
I suggest you to do the second kick at the same time as when your hands enter the water
His technique is correct and it works fine for him
As soon as you finish all these elements, the stroke is finished
Now, we will talk about a few technique drills which will train you to perform the movements at the right time
Butterfly swimming on your back is a great exercise to synchronize the movements of the hands and legs
You should do the arm stroke with both hands simultaneously while on your back
After the end of the arm stroke, you do the first kick and then return your hands about the water to the starting position
At the moment when your hands enter the water, you should do the second kick
Don't be in a hurry and do the exercise carefully
This is another drill that will help you to synchronize your arm strokes with your kicks
First, you return your hand forward and do the kicks
Then, return the second hand and perform the kicks
Once the hands in the forward position, you do the arm stroke with your both hands and perform the kicks
Try to remember how it feels for you and attempt to regain the feeling while swimming butterfly
Also, you can do all the drills that I've shown you previously
But you can do them focusing on performing the movements at exactly right time
Many swimmers develop their personal technique on their own
In this case, swimming may feel differently or not exactly as I explained
You might feel not comfortable, when you first try to work on these technical elements
or when you change your timing as I've suggested
The main reason for this, is that you've probably quite used to doing the movements in a different way
or using a different rhythm
So it's very useful to make a video of your swimming to check whether or not your technique is correct
Leave your comments about how your technique feels in your own body
and let me know what mistakes you think you need to fix
As you already know, smooth movements are very important in butterfly
to achieve this you should transfer weight forward at the right moment
and smoothly dive forwards in order to save the speed
In the previous lesson, you did the exercise
to learn how to transfer your own weight forward during the hand-return
Now, we will take a look at rolling in the water
After the arm stroke, your body weight must be concentrated around the pelvis
At this moment, you should have a high speed and a high position in the water
So you move forward with little resistance in the water
However, the speed slows down during the hand-return
but it's very important to maintain the speed at this point
During the hand return, you should do the same back movement as in the training exercise on the land
Move your back forward and lift your legs up while returning the hands forwards
Pay attention when you move your back forward, there is no need to flex the back, keep it straight!
The movement will shift your center of gravity forward and automatically pull you forward
If your center of gravity is kept behind you'll be pulled back, during the hand return
To get the correct body movement, rhythm and coordination of movements
You'll need to focus on the elements while swimming
it's a lot to think about and also it takes time
However, once you achieve it, you'll literally fly over the water surface
Now, we are going to learn how to glide
Gliding is a difficult process in swimming
on the one hand gliding is useful because it allows you to move forward
using the speed gained from the arm strokes and kicks
On the other hand, the speed is decreasing during the gliding
because the swimmer doesn't do any movements
So the water resistance slows the speed
While gliding you need to feel that moment when you speed is still high but starts to decrease at
At this moment, you should start doing another arm stroke so that you don't lose too much speed
The amount of decrease in gliding speed is different for every swimmer and every swimming style
Therefore, gliding time is different for everyone
in butterfly, the speed gets slowed down during the hands return
But the second kick boost the speed up again so you can theoretically glide with it
However, the speed won't be high enough to glide very much
If you glide too much
your speed will slow down a lot and you'll need to start the stroke from scratch
I'm not saying that you should do arm strokes without any gliding
when your hands enter the water
you can slowly start a new arm stroke like Alexander does in the video
In the very beginning, the water grabbing is done slowly, but then the hands start accelerating
Having this grabbing phase of an arm stroke
will allow the swimmer to glide forwards and it'll be while doing the first phase of an arm stroke
and also, helps to maintain the speed for a new arm stroke
In butterfly, the tempo or pace depends on the distance you are swimming
The main difference of the swimming pace is the speed of a stroke
So depending on distance, only the speed of the arm stroke changes, but the technique of the movements remains the same
In a sprint, the movements are done as frequently as possible
In long distances, the movements are long, similar to what Alexander is doing in the video
In the five butterfly lessons you've learned all different technical elements of fly technique
Now, you should be able to swim well both aesthetically and efficiently
spending less energy and swim long distances
Remember, butterfly technique is difficult and it takes time to set up the technique
I can guarantee that if you follow the tips from these videos
your technique will improve
let me know in the comments which swimming stroke you'd like detailed videos of backstroke breaststroke or freestyle

24 Reasons A Quiet Place & Bird Box Are The Same Movie - Duration: 4:58.
In this post apocalyptic thriller, the world and everyone in it is falling apart.
The streets are way too dangerous so to remain safe, the main characters try to remain in
doors as much as possible.
Even though they're inside, they have eyes on the street and their surveillance footage
lets them knows when the monsters are nearby.
The monsters in the movies wipe out most of civilization by preying on 1 out of the 5
senses.
If the monsters weren't bad enough, humans are just as dangerous as the demons so you
could barely trust them either.
For example, there's a crazy old white man who witnesses his wife die from the monster
and instead of helping the other survivors he wants to take everybody down with her.
Not everyone is crazy as the old white man though, the group has faith in humanity and
everyday, they check different radio frequencies to search for other survivors.
The timing of this apocalypse couldn't be worse.
There's a pregnant woman in the group.
Her due date is in October and that's right around the corner (audio).
Normally, it's not safe for any mother to be to participate in a post apocalyptic thriller,
but one of the pregnant ladies in the movie is just as fierce as the men in the movie.
She's overprotective of her unborn child and will shoot any threat that comes near
them whether it's a man or monster.
When they run low on supplies, they have to make a run to the local retail stores.
They pick up medicine, food, and all the other bare necessities.
One day during one of their runs, one of the characters wasn't careful and his carelessness
caused his to die to death.
Everyone is super sad.
The characters believe mistakes like these could easily be avoided so they train diligently
to survive in the wild.
The movie starts to time jump to condense all of their years of training into an hour
and a half, but after all that, they all live happily ever after.
E-Man: Uh Couch, there's still 12 more reasons to go.
Couch: My bad, I couldn't think of anymore.
E-Man: I know a few reasons why these movies are the same off the top of my head.
Couch: care to share?
E-Man: I thought you'd never ask.
Couch: Ladies and gentleman, join me in welcoming Emmanuel from E-Man's Movie Reviews (applause).
The main pregnant woman's water breaks and her baby choses to come out at the worst possible
time because the beasts are right outside the house.
The creatures actually make their way into the premises, but luckily the guy with the
shotgun comes in and provides backup.
The two lovebirds raise two lovely children during the apocalypse.
They do their best, but unfortunately, it's hard for any parent to show provide the amount
of affection that a young child needs when they're constantly trying to protect them
from mass murdering monsters 100% of the time.
The girl feels neglected and she thinks one of the parents is a horrible parent.
Both of the parents share some dialogue and the adults the kids love tells the adult the
kid hates that maybe he or she should try not to hide their emotions so much.
The kids need to know the parents love them before it's too late.
Speaking of too late, you could tell somebody's about to die.
The parents are teaching the children survival skills in the woods.
All the practice goes down the drain when the kids get separated from the adults.
They're luckier than cats because it seems like they're given more than 9 lives.
The boy almost drowns, but he survives.
The other kid gets separated from the mother during the water scene and just when you think
that kids about to die, the child survives too.
The parents aren't as lucky.
The children are in danger again and the dad stands up to the menace to protect them from
danger.
His plan works and backfires at the same time.
He suffers a critical injury in his torso and at that point, he's better off dead
anyways.
He agrees and dies to sacrifice himself while the children runaway from the beast.
A beast eventually catches up to the mother and the children at the end of the movie.
They're cornered and have nowhere to hide.
That's when they discover the weakness.
There's a character with a disability in the movie and that character is the key who
discovers the flaw in the monsters.
The disabled character has an advantage and isn't impacted by the creatures the same
way other humans are.
This allows the humans to live to see another day.
Couch: Show off.
E-Man: I'm just stating the obvious.
Couch: Not mad at that.
How about a round of applause for Emmanuel from E-Man Movie Reviews.
For those of you who don't know, E-Man is my go-to when it comes to comic book movie
fan theories.
He's also one of my favorite movie reviewers.

Prusa MK2.5 UPGRADE kit - Worth the $240? - Duration: 8:49.
This is my Original Prusa i3 Mk2.5 that I upgraded from the MK2s using the Prusa upgrade
kit.
Even though it has many features of the latest Prusa like the magnetic bed, it's not quite
a Mk3 and in today's video I'll tell you if this upgrade is worth your money and time.
Guten Tag everybody, I'm Stefan and welcome to CNC Kitchen.
The Original Prusa i3 is still the printer I use the most often for my projects because
it's quite, reliable and just works.
I purchased it two years ago as a MK2 and then upgraded it to a MK2s a good year later.
With the release of the MK3, Prusa Research also made an upgrade kit available that made
it possible to upgrade your existing MK2s with many of the features of the MK3 and they
called it the MK2.5.
A very generous viewer was so kind to provide me with the upgrade kit that sells for 200€
and if you have ever bought an Original Mk2 or Mk2s then you'll get 50€ discount which
makes it effectively cost 150€ for most.
If you had purchased your Mk2s shortly before the release of the Mk3 you should even have
a 100€ discount voucher.
The upgrade kit is meant for the MK2s so if you still have a normal MK2 it is advisable
to also purchase the MK2s upgrade which includes new smooth rods, bearings a U-Bolts but that
will set you back another 55€.
How much of the MK3 is actually in the MK2.5?
So first things first, you won't get a 24V system with the power panic functionality.
There is also no new mainboard included so you won't get the Trinamic drivers with
better microstepping, crash detection and stealth mode as well as the there won't
be stall detection for the print fan.
What you will be getting with the upgrade though is a whole new extruder assembly, that
features hardened steel bondtech gears that drive the filament from both sides, a quite
Noctua fan, an optical filament sensor and the PINDA 2 probe.
The new bed sensing probe includes a thermistor that compensates for temperature drift and
will help you get a consistent first layer thickness especially when you work with different
print platform temperatures.
The new electronics enclosure has optimized attachments for the extruder and bed wires
in order to avoid fatigue at the locations where they enter the box.
Though, the most notable thing is the magnetic spring steel bed.
Unfortunately the powder coated beds are still not available for the MK2.5 but the smooth
PEI sheets that are applied on both sides on mine perform very well.
This bed makes removing prints so easy and satisfying by just bending it and helps you
avoiding using a spatula that killed my old PEI sheet quite fast.
It needs to be noted that this magnetic bed sits directly on the heated PCB which makes
the response time quite fast and the magnets are suitable for temperatures way above those,
the bed can reach, so printing ABS and similar materials is not a problem what so ever.
Keep that in mind if you compare the price of this upgrade with other magnetic print
plate solutions that are way cheaper but not suitable for high temperature beds and will
not work with Prusas mesh bed leveling.
The upgrade kit comes with everything you need, all parts and tools and even a pack
of HARIBO that might be necessary since the whole upgrade process will take you around
4 to 6 hours.
It also comes with a roll of PET filament that you'll need to print out required part
for the upgrade, most prominently the electronics enclosure and the extruder assembly.
I was a bit upset that they included black filament because I always enjoyed the look
of the old, orange parts.
Contrary to their old printers Prusa switched from printing all of the parts in ABS to now
PET which also makes the printing process for you easier and less smelly.
Only the cooling fan shroud is provided as a pre-printed ABS part because it has to withstand
the temperatures of the heater block.
The parts for the upgrade can be downloaded either as pre-sliced G-Code or as separate
stls from the Prusa site.
Unfortunately, I had some issues with the material sticking to the bare PEI but finally
got it to stick with an application of Magigoo.
I also printed this great universal spool holder from Mirkoengineer so I could finally
throw away the one that came with my Mk2 and this one has served me very well since!
When you have the parts printed out you can start with the upgrade process which is very
well documented and available in many different languages.
Even though Prusa Research provides great instructions it will still require you to
disassemble a good part of the printer and put everything together again which might
not be something for everyone.
I didn't find any issues with the instructions during my 5 hours that I spent working on
the upgrade and even though your need to re-run a couple of wires, no soldering is required.
I also took this as an opportunity to do an overhaul of my machine with cleaning everything
and replacing nozzle, thermistor, heater cartridge and heater block which were kind of worn from
the hundreds of hours of printing.
Finally you just need to upload the MK2.5 firmware and after a short calibration run
you are ready to go.
So I've been now using my MK2.5 for the last couple of months and don't regret the
upgrade at all.
It has to be noted the print quality will not improve notably with the upgrade because
the electronics stay the same, though the print results were already great before.
The only thing that might improve a bit is the overhang and small details performance
since the new fan shroud cools your print now from all sides.
Unfortunately, the new shroud and it's placement make the printhead a little bigger which caused
me some problems in my filament tests where I print my coupons sequentially, so clearance
is very important.
The filament sensor is very nice, makes loading new material very convenient and prevents
filament run outs efficiently.
Still some materials don't work perfectly with the optical sensor where the printer
recommends to turn it off.
Even though the printer noises from the steppers stay the same, the Noctua fan removes that
horrible high pitch sound during prints which makes running the printer in my office even
more pleasant than it was before.
The new PINDA 2 probe works great and since I change my materials and therefore the bed
temperature quite often saves me quite a lot of hassle getting the first layer right.
This is, with the new spring steel bed the reason that made my Original Prusa is now
even a bit better than it was before.
The magnetic bed makes removing parts so easy and it also enables me to use some spray adhesives
that I just wasn't comfortable using before next to my smooth rods and lead screws.
I've also been using the bed to put PLA parts for annealing in my oven and with the
print platform still attached, greatly helps avoiding warping during that process.
So in summary, do I think it is worth spending around 150€ on this upgrade?
If you only print PLA on your Prusa then you really need to think about if, effectively,
a removable bed and a filament run out sensor is worth the price, especially if you consider
that you can nowadays get good 3D printers for around the price of this upgrade kit.
Also if you bought your Prusa fully assembled and are not comfortable taking it apart on
your own, maybe think twice about this upgrade because it will require some tinkering.
But, if you are someone who regularly uses different materials and you need a reliable
printer, then I think the upgrade is well worth the price!
The bondtech gears make extruding even difficult material just a bit more reliable, PINDA 2
helps getting perfect first layers and the removable bed is just awesome.
But what do you think?
Would your rather spend the money on a new printer or would you invest the money in your
old work-horse?
Let me know down in the comments.
Thanks for watching everybody.

Tracktion 7 Tutorial (Part 1) – Installation and First Time Setup - Duration: 4:20.
Hey guys, in this video we're going to start taking a look at Tracktion 7.
This is a free digital audio workstation that you can download for Windows, Mac and Linux.
With this program, we'll be able to record and edit audio and MIDI.
In this first tutorial, we'll cover getting the program installed and configuring everything.
Previously, Tracktion 7 was only available with the purchase of a Behringer or Mackie
product, but it's now completely free for anyone to download.
Either way, I still recommend picking up a budget audio interface like the Behringer
U-PHORIA UM2 so you'll have an audio input to record with.
I'll link those in the video description for you to check out.
When you go to Tracktion's website, you'll need to fill out a form to register to get
the product.
Then you'll be brought to the download page where you can choose the installer you need.
For Windows, I'll be using the 64 bit version, but check whether the plugins you like to
use are 32 or 64 bit before choosing the download, since you need to match the versions to get
it to run properly.
Now that we have the program downloaded, just run it and install it.
There's not really any options throughout the installation process, so just run the
program when you're done.
Tracktion 7 has a first time setup we can use to get everything configured for us.
We'll still need to activate the program when we install it, so use the username and
password you entered when you downloaded the program to activate it.
Then we'll configure our audio interface.
The first thing I do is set the audio device type at the top to ASIO.
This allows us to use all the inputs from our audio interface with low latency, and
we can also adjust the latency here if we need to but that can cause issues like pops
and clicks in the audio if we set it too low.
Since I have multiple devices connected, I'll change the device to my Focusrite Scarlett
interface, but choose yours accordingly.
Many of the Behringer interfaces like the UM2 fall under ASIO4ALL, and the driver for
that needs to be installed separately.
Once the audio interface is chosen, I need to enable all the inputs.
The default is just the two inputs, so I'll enable the rest of them as well.
Next we can select our MIDI device.
For now I'll leave it as default, but we'll come back to this when we cover MIDI in more
detail in a few videos.
After that we have to tell Tracktion where all our plugins are stored on this computer.
I have a few folders so I'll add each of them.
To do that, click Scanning and Sorting and then Scan for new or updated VST plug-ins.
Press the plus button in the bottom left to add folders on your hard drive where the VST
plug-ins are stored.
Then press Scan and Tracktion will add all the compatible plug-ins to the program.
I had a few problems with some plugins not being compatible, but I'm pretty sure that's
because they are the older 32 bit versions of these plugins.
The plugin needs to match the Tracktion version we're using, and since most of my plugins
are 64 bit, I'm running a 64 bit version of Tracktion, but unfortunately those older
plugins won't work here.
Next we can scan for loops in a similar way, but I don't have any to add at this point.
Then we can choose to download a demo project, and these can be helpful if you're just
starting out to see what a full project looks like.
The marketplace is where we can go to download additional plugins but they're all paid.
Of course, we can also get 3rd party 64-bit VST plugins, install them, and add the scan
path as we did previously, so we're not really limited by what's available in the
marketplace.
I don't recommend watching the tutorial video, since it doesn't really provide much
useful information for getting started with the program, and we'll cover everything
in this series anyways.
Last we have a quick start guide you can use for reference if you need more information
about how to use the program.
Thanks for checking out this video on installing and configuring Tracktion 7.

Kinemaster Color Grading Tutorial - Duration: 6:52.
If you want to know how to do color grading in the Kinemaster video
editing app then be sure to stick around until the very end of this video because
I'm gonna show you exactly how you can do it. What's going on? My name is Devin
Street helping you build your online presence and today we're going to be
going over color grading in Kinemaster but if you're not already subscribed to
the channel go ahead and click the subscribe button there's a new video
every single Wednesday showing you how to edit in Kinemaster so before we get
into this let's just take a look at these videos right here this is going to
before and after of each of these clips after I color grade them as you
can see the one on the right looks a lot better and that's after color grading so
color grading can add so much to your video by simply going in and changing
some different things that we have offered in this app and it's really
great to do this with most your videos if you want to make them look cinematic
if you're trying to do nice vlogs and things like that that's very important
for when you're doing color grading now on something like a tutorial channel
like mine it's not as important I still do it sometimes but when it comes down
to stuff where you're getting shots outdoors
that's when color grading can be really important so I have three clips here
that I've taken on my phone and we have this first one and then we have the
second one at the beach we're gonna have this third one with grass and flowers
so first let's do this one first and we need to understand the color grading and
can a master how to get to it and what it all offers so there is some color
grading in Kinemaster it's not as great as other apps have offered and it's not
as great as what desktop applications can offer but there is still some so all
we have to do is just click on the clip we want to color grade and then scroll
down it's not color filters but it's color adjustments and then once we're at
color adjustments we have our three options we have our brightness our
contrast and our temperature so for this clip right here I believe we
could up the brightness slightly not much and then if we take a look at our
contrast we can lower it a lot and that's going to actually take away from
the image or we can increase it and it looks like it adds more detail to it and
then finally we can go over here and we can add more temperature to it make it
look more bright and colorful and also let's just turn the brightness up
slightly more and that is just a simple color correction for that okay secondly
we have this beach shot as I go down and set it down it seems like the brightness
sort of dropped slightly but that quality is extremely nice let's go ahead
and go in and do color adjustments for this and I believe maybe we want to add
some more color to the sky make it a little bit more blue so if we turn that
all the way up that's going to give us a little bit more blue in our sky and we
don't want to make it I don't think we want to change the brightness at all for
this one as you can see darkness is going to take away from it and
brightness is going to take away from it and it's also based on the tone you're
trying to set in the scene your brightness your contrast all of that can
change how the tone is of the scene if you want a darker scene then that's
going to create this darker tone but if you make it brighter and play happier
music and things like that that's going to bring an uplifting tone to the scene
but we're going for more of a cinematic when we do our color adjustments and
finally our contrast we will most likely let's just lower it slightly there and
we didn't change the brightness at all so not much difference to this one I
think this one was already pretty good and then we go over to this last one and
what we're going to see is the brightness at some points it's very nice
but then we get towards the end and let's actually bring this out a little
bit more the brightness here is kind of messy so we do need to fix that a little
bit so let's go in here and do our color adjustments and let's tune this
brightness down slightly and now that we've tuned it down it looks a little
better maybe if we adjust the contrast and let's give it a little higher and
then finally our temperature it really depends on do we want really green grass
or do we want this darker more natural tone and I think for this one we're
going to want some really green grass and let's lower the contrast we like
this if you have your contrast and your temperature up really high you're gonna
get something very wild like this very bright very colorful and I'm trying to
get in between a colorful but also realistic look to it so if we lower that
a little bit and lower that that's what we should get right there that looks
much more green to it it has a lot of color in the grass and we're able to
make out the flower slightly more now since we've lowered the brightness and
everything and that's simply how you can color grade but that's just a simple
color grading tutorial in the kingdom a stir app there's other apps that can do
this much better than we can in this Kinemaster app but you can still bring
out colors you can still mess with the image make it look more detailed make it
look like with this one this was shot spring winter time around their early
spring light winter and it was very cold looking and then we added all this to it
and it almost gives it like a fall feeling to it so color grading can
change a lot with the video and I think it's highly important when you're doing
stuff like outdoor videos for vlogs and cinematic things like that but
if you want to know how to edit in Kinemaster like a pro then make sure you go
ahead and click the subscribe button and then check out the entire Kinemaster
video editing series I want to thank you for watching until the very end and I'll
see you in the next video

Speed Challenge || Reto de la Velocidad || 10 min || 5 min || 1 min - Duration: 11:58.
be welcome again to the channel dinoart and today we are with the first
video of the year and what better way to start the year with the first challenge
of the channel the challenge of speed fits highlight that this challenge was proposed to me
one of my best friends called andrey that by the way I send him a great
greeting and that surely to pass in the video and in the processes of
drawings will be dying of laughter from the trash that will see below
I must also point out that this challenge the drawings will be divided
they will be divided in 10 minutes 5 minutes and 1 minute so
we'll see what happens I'm a little nervous so we'll see what happens
I'm a little bit nervous
in this challenge we will draw rexy and we start with the one of the 10 minutes that
at the beginning I was going a bit let's say between quiet quotes because I had more or
minus everything calculated from how I wanted that but in the end I think I trusted
and it ended worse than I expected I honestly thought that there would be a
Decent drawing presentable but not or in the end I could not even finish
coloring it I could just give it a few you touch like that and not even the eyes
I could paint so I'll leave them with the process also increases a bit the
video speed because I did not want that they will swallow 10 minutes of pure video and
music and I will also leave you a stopwatch to the right side down to
that they see that I did not cheat
and this is where the coloring starts that sincerely from that point
I started to panic a bit because I was not going out as I wanted and not
I was going out as I had planned or I had planned more or
unless the sketch ends in the minute 4 but it ended at minute 6 and
something and gave me very little time to color and you can simply add
the shadows that would be with the color black and apply brown was the only thing I could
do not even the tongue nor the eyes nor give it a type of brightness can not
make him almost nothing just black and Brown
and that's how the drawing of the 10 minutes and I must say that I'm not
nothing proud of this result as I mentioned them I thought I was going to stay
better but not but not or not was not even even decent this drawing so there
I leave it to you to appreciate it and that they would laugh for a while
and this is where we start with the strong five minutes five minutes to draw
a tyrannosaurus rex It seems a bad joke but if I had to
speed things up pretty much because if I was not going to even finish the sketch
here if I could finish the sketch and I could coloring it almost everything but that does not mean
that the drawing has been well and andrey you better be laughing with
this because you do not expect anything good at all of these drawings
and here I must warn you that what they are going to seeing may give them temporary blindness
this may cry blood for some hours because what are they
point of view is the result of the one minute rexy that is the worst thing that I have
made in my life the worst drawing that I have realized is that it seems to be
giving a spill that is at the same time giving a cancer in the brain and that is
suffering has a face of suffering this poor tyrannosaur
well guys, that's how we ended the first video of the year and what better way
as I said at the beginning that start it with a challenge the challenge of speed ten
minutes five minutes and one minute drawing rexy I hope they have
laughed with this video because that's the purpose of this video at least
get them a smile because god are creations that I just did not I'm
nothing proud of them and surely you neither but here the important thing
it was that he laughed in a while and before ending with the video I want
give a small promo to one of my best friends called sebastian that
just created a channel just has 91 subscribers the channel is called
gamer soul I'll be leaving the link in the description a channel that goes up
videogames and in some other I leave I want to go see and laugh
with me and with him in the videos where I go out I go out specifically the
videos of the creative video game destruction or fornite for the poor like
I like to call him so I'll be leaving a small one minute clip of
one of the gameplays
so I wish they were going to give it a look at the channel and if possible that
help you by signing up so you can reach soon the 100 subscribers
and also do not forget that they come from me and who knows maybe until
you can download the video game and play with him and with me
and well guys, that's how we end this video really I hope you have them
liked it as much as me because to me I honestly had a very
ok doing this video so I do not know forget to comment leave a like
share and if they are new subscribe so that this family keeps growing
here is going to innovate and we will see each other in the next

Jump Force Premium Shop Unlocks Characters? - Duration: 4:45.
ayo guys Enigma here! Happy New Year and all that good stuff I hope you're
starting 2019 off really strong I'm trying to start off strong
and let's get right to the video in this video I'm gonna talk about how I believe
the premium shop has nothing to do with microtransactions but more so to do with
unlocking characters and movesets. So let's get right into it so when you see
the shop the first time obviously we're looking at accessories for your avatar I
think all the accessories, hair parts, and anything make you.. know to change the
appearance of your avatar belongs in the shop I think we're going back to the J
points system like J-stars did but this time the premium shop is gonna be more so for
our avatar vehicles, also going to be for movesets
I'm hoping there's move sets in the game that the playable characters do not have
such as Ace you have all Ace pieces in the game without his move set. yes, you
can copy Sabo moveset but anybody know that Sabo and Ace are not the same
person okay then I'm gonna fight the same way so have an ace move set in the
premium shop costing a handful of J points would make more sense
I think unlocking characters the same way j-stars did we had to unlock korosensei
& Killua for a heap of points, you saved your points up you, went to the shop, you
brought the character pack and then that was it I think the premium shop is gonna
play the same role all over again I think they're gonna play with you know
unlocking the characters Lobby vehicles, movesets, you know all that big stuff I
don't think they're gonna be microtransactions for the simple fact
bandai namco normally doesn't do that like they don't do a shop that gives you
a fair advantage, you know xenoverse the clothing gave you attribute points they
gave you you know more strength unlike shinobi strikers it really doesn't give
you that much of an edge is more cosmetic and to me I think that's what's
gonna play a role this time because I don't see Bandai Namco adding you know
the premium shop for something to give you a fair advantage because they lack
case we already speculate that the CAC is gonna be overpowered if that's gonna
be microtransactions I think the premium shop is for unlockable characters it
would make sense because I don't think we're gonna turn the game on and gonna
have 56 characters off the bat selectable no way no way you have to
have something worth fighting for you know you gotta turn the game on to give
us about 20 characters and whatnot maybe 15 and then we do all the stories cuz we
have our reward booth too. Reward booth to me seem like it's gonna
be like mostly RNG based oh you got this from Goku, you got this from you Gon
type thing but to unlock somebody else that hasn't been announced yet I think
everybody that's been announced so far are gonna be story mode characters play
a big world story characters like such as Tsuna or a Jojo character are gonna
be in the shop if you ask me I think those characters that we haven't played
in a beta yet or definitely going to be in the shop as well so my final verdict
of the premium shop has to do with new moveset, Lobby vehicles, and unlocking
characters I don't think it'll be anything to send you to the PlayStation
Store or the Xbox store right away I think all that in that shop has to do
with a heap of amount of J points you have to spend so you'll unlock these
characters. Anyway guys I'm a little under the weather
I'll make the videos longer but I'm not feeling that well somebody gets out
there to you guys I hope your new year was good if you liked the video
definitely like share comment give me your opinion what do you think the
premiere shop is do you think that Bandai Namco's gonna pull an EA type game
type transactions you know or do you think the premium shop has
something to do like J's stars where you are locking characters I want you to
sound off in the comments below if you're not subscribed to the channel
please do so and I guys I'm looking for about 25 likes that would be good to help the
channel out thanks a lot guys more coming soon

Top 10 British Generals, 1700 – 1945 - Duration: 10:24.
This list is specifically limited to the period between the beginning of the Spanish War of
Succession and the end of the Second World War, and is restricted to generals who were
born in the British Isles.
There are some controversial additions and the ranking is purely my own personal opinion.
10.
Henry Rawlinson – 1st Baron Rawlinson
Rawlinson is a controversial addition to the list for those who know of him.
He was a First World War General and, above all else, the shadow of one battle hangs over
his career – The Somme.
Rawlinson was the general most responsible for planning the battle of the Somme, and
it was his army that bore the brunt of the fighting.
Yet despite the failures of the Somme, Rawlinson was a visionary.
It was he who planned and conducted the first night battle by a modern army, and it was
Rawlinson who pioneered the idea of Combined Arms Operations.
His victory at Amiens – called "the Black Day of the German Army" by Erich Luddendorf
– was the first battle in history where the efforts of infantry was closely supported
by mass artillery bombardment, mass cavalry charges, mass armored advance and aerial support.
He showed the future of battlefield tactics and for that he makes my list.
9.
Edmund Allenby – 1st Viscount Allenby
Allenby is widely regarded as one of the best commanders of the First World War and is certainly
remembered as one of the most successful.
He had experience combat in the Boer War, with his Cavalry Column having been engaged
in constant combat for two years.
During that war he had learned contempt for the established higher command and, on the
Western Front, it was this contempt that saw him replaced by Byng after feuding with Haig
despite having distinguished himself in combat.
He was reassigned to the Middle-East and there he would prove his worth.
He quickly gained the respect of the troops of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force by moving
his HQ to a position closer to the front, visiting the troops regularly in the frontlines,
reorganizing the EEF into an effective Corps system and imposing discipline and professionalism
on the whole command.
He gave financial support to T.E.
Lawrence's efforts to unite the Arabs to revolt against the Ottoman Empire.
He showed capability in both strategy and tactics and, much like Rawlinson, he became
a pioneer of modern warfare with his victory at Megiddo being considered the precursor
of Blitzkrieg.
8.
Herbert Plumer – 1st Viscount Plumer
Plumer looked the part of a typical First World War British General, with his receding
chin and white moustache, yet he was anything but.
Plumer was a man who operated in prudent reality: he did not expect his army to break through
the enemy lines and charge to Berlin, nor did he expect his men to be superhuman.
In his detailed plans he planned for only modest goals – keeping in mind the weather
and terrain involved and the morale of his men – then trained his men thoroughly for
the task he had set them.
"Daddy" Plumer was arguably the finest commander on the Western Front and his victory
at Messines was one of the most complete in the entire war.
7.
Douglas Haig – 1st Earl Haig
Haig is the most controversial addition to the list.
His reputation is a very bad one; he is characterized as a general who sat hundreds of miles behind
the front and had a willful disregard for the lives of his men – the Donkey that commanded
the Lions.
This is inescapable and there is some truth to it.
However Haig did accomplish a few positive things as well.
While he was not the most familiar with the modern science of warfare and slow to recognize
their uses, he did encourage their development and supported subordinates who proved capable
of using them.
Under Haig, the British Armies became the most mechanized force in the world.
While others relied more heavily on the outdated cavalry, he embraced the tank, enlarged the
artillery and, in the final campaign of the war, oversaw the biggest victory ever achieved
by Britain in any war in the Hundred Days Offensive, on a scale of men involved and
territory fought in.
6.
Alan Brooke – 1st Viscount Alanbrooke
Alan Brooke was the premier strategist at the Western Allies' disposal in Europe in
the Second World War.
He had proven himself to be an effective commander of troops when he was commander of the II
Corps of the BEF in the Battle of France but he would prove his worth far greater as the
Chief of the Imperial General Staff.
As CIGS, he was responsible for deciding what theatre got what in terms of manpower and
logistics, and for choosing the commanders of the various theatres and armies.
However, he was sometimes handicapped in this by Winston Churchill's interference.
Brooke was famed amongst the British high command for his refusal to cave into Churchill's
desires; unless Churchill had an idea that was grounded in sound military thought, Brooke
opposed it vehemently.
It was Alanbrooke who insisted that the Mediterranean was cleared for Allied shipping before any
invasion of continental Europe took place, it was he who demanded that the Italians be
knocked out of the war before an invasion of France took place, and finally it was he
who insisted that the northern, cross-channel invasion of France received full support and
that nothing be transferred to southern France.
He was constantly at odds with the American High Command – some of whom accused him
of lacking aggression – and he clashed with Marshall and Eisenhower over Allied strategy,
but nobody for the Western Allies had more influence in how the war in Europe unfolded
than Alanbrooke.
With Churchill, he combined to create the most effective higher command of any nation
of the war despite the sometimes flawed judgment and the increasing constraints it operated
under.
5.
Robert Clive – 1st Baron Clive
Clive of India, as is his most famous name, was the man most responsible for the conquest
of India by the British Empire.
Before he arrived there were localized groups of armed troops defending commercial interests
of the European nations, and he received his first taste of warfare in the First Carnatic
War.
During that war he was taken ill and had to return to the UK to recuperate.
When he returned to India, the balance of power had shifted firmly in France's favor.
His first action was to take Arcot –the capital of the Canatic region – and hold
it for 50 days in a siege against the ruler of the region, the French sympathetic Chanda
Sahib.
This made Clive famous and led to the British being able to equalize power between them
and the French in the region, an equality that only lasted until Clive's absence when
the French retook power.
In the Seven Years War, he returned to India.
There he retook Calcutta after it had fallen to Siraj Ud Daulah.
He then marched through the middle of the Nawab's camp to break a siege where the
enemy had 40,000 cavalry, 60,000 infantry and 30 cannons.
Meanwhile, Clive had but 540 British Infantry, 600 British Sailors, 800 Sepoys, 14 field
guns and no cavalry.
Then he went on to win his decisive and most famous victory at Plassey, which ensured that
British presence in India was unassailable.
While undoubtedly a daring and skilled tactician and a competent organizer, perhaps Clive's
greatest strength was his mastery of politics.
4.
William Slim – 1st Viscount Slim
Bill Slim has been called the greatest commander of the 20th Century.
Unlike his high profile contemporary Montgomery, he was a humble man: self-depreciating and
candid in talking about the mistakes he made and the lessons he learnt.
His 14th Army was an amalgamation of British, Australian, New Zealanders, Indian and African
troops, yet he fostered a spirit of unity within them that was unequaled by any other
army of the war.
He had the oldest equipment of any Allied army, and had to handle the most trying and
difficult of logistical operations.
He was inventive with both tactical and strategic operations while not being reckless, and he
held down significant numbers of Japanese troops which otherwise could have been used
to oppose American operations in New Guinea, the Philippines, Iwo Jimo and Okinawa.
Nobody in the Second World War achieved more with less than William Slim.
3.
Bernard Montgomery – 1st Viscount Montgomery
Montgomery is another controversial figure of history, with his legacy caught up in nationalistic
arguments and his less flamboyant command style overshadowed by the Blitzkriegs of the
day.
Monty was a thorough trainer and planner, a high class administrator, and a totally
professional soldier and general.
However, he was a very difficult man to know and work with on a personal level; he always
thought he was right and rarely compromised, usually having to have compromise forced upon
him.
He was, quite simply, a self-obsessed and self-glorifying bully.
The balance between Monty's professional virtues and personal faults was often difficult
to maintain but usually his professional virtues outweighed his personal faults.
He was one of the few commanders to come out of the Battle of France with his reputation
enhanced.
He beat Rommel at Alam el Halfa and El Alamein and never looked back.
He only lost one major engagement in the entire war – Market Garden– and played a major
role in the successful execution of Overlord and the defeat of the Ardennes Offensive.
2.
Arthur Wellesley – 1st Duke of Wellington
The Duke of Wellington was outstanding in everything he did.
He never lost a major battle to any opponent, he beat every commander ever sent against
him and ruined many of their reputations and, most famously, defeated Napoleon at Waterloo
– with help from the Prussians.
His victories at Assaye, Salamanca and Vitoria were as good as any won during the Napoleonic
Wars.
His mastery of logistics and forward planning meant that he was never caught out by an enemy
and usually picked the field of battle.
His insistence on keeping his army from harassing the local population saved him from having
to deal with the problem of partisans.
His ability to maintain good relations with political elements in the UK as well as in
Spain and Portugal ensured that he was never undermined for non-military reasons.
His record of success is greater than any other general of his era except Aleksandr
Suvorov.
1.
John Churchill – 1st Duke of Marlborough
The Duke of Marlborough was, by far, the greatest military man of his generation.
He was a ruthlessly ambitious man who was prepared to stoop to almost any level in pursuit
of wealth and personal glory.
He had a grasp of both the immediate and wider strategic details, and was a master of maneuver
and tactics.
A high class administrator and master logistician, he spent considerable concern on the welfare
of his troops and when tested on the field of battle he always prevailed.
His great victories at Blenheim, Oudenarde and Ramilles were as great as any victory
ever won on the European Continent and aided a great deal in the increase
of Britain's prestige and influence in Europe.

How To Ask For A Raise! - Duration: 5:38.
Picture a very nervous seventeen-year-old Julia. My heart was
pounding my mouth was dry and my hands were sweaty because I was about to walk
into my boss's office and ask for my first pay raise. Somehow I managed to
negotiate my rate from $7.25 an hour to $7.75
10 years later when I found myself in a similar position you'd think I might
have felt a bit older and wiser going in but I didn't. Negotiating your pay isn't
something you get a lot of practice doing. And it's not like they teach it in
high school or college and most people don't even like to talk about how much
they make with anyone even their boss. A study in Australia found that only 48%
of men and 32% of women thought their pay was even up for discussion.
Your income is the most powerful tool that you have to grow your financial
stability so you owe it to yourself to exert some control over it
the first step in getting a pay raise is to decide to ask for one in a perfect
world your boss would notice all your hard work and say hey that employees a
real benefit to this company I should increase their salary and I'll give them
a company car and a corner office while I'm at it but this just doesn't happen
in the real world your boss might even recognize your value but he or she
probably has their own budget to worry about so they're unlikely to increase
their expense without you initiating the conversation
however before you do that you've got to prepare your case how are you especially
valuable to the company what achievements or successes have you had
recently have your responsibilities expanded beyond the original job
description any extra training or education relevant to your work it's
best not to compare your paid to other employees that's not considered
professional and don't include personal needs like my rent went up or my dog got
sick employers will only care about your individual merit and remember that just
with your job is not a good enough argument after all
you already agreed to do that when you first took the position you have to show
that you're more valuable now than you were when you were hired although you're
arming yourself with arguments keep in mind that it's not a battle replacing an
established employee is very expensive and time-consuming so if you're a good
worker your boss probably wants the same thing you do for you to be happy enough
to stick around unless they're an abusive jerk in which case would getting
a raise really make you happier maybe you should be looking for a different
job instead have a specific number in mind researchers at Columbia Business
School found that workers were more likely to get a raise if they asked for
a precise amount probably because they seemed more confident about their worth
but you do have to be realistic most pay raises are between one and five
percent and you can use websites like a pay scale or Glassdoor to find out the
market rate for your position in your area timing is key if the company is in
the middle of a big project and your boss is stressed out you might want to
wait for things to calm down before asking for a raise
plan your request soon after you've completed a big achievement or shown
that you can successfully handle more responsibilities and if you've recently
taken a vacation or missed a deadline you should probably allow some time to
re-establish a reliability asking at the right time will only make it easier for
your boss to say yes even if your employer thinks you deserve it they just
might not have the ability to increase your salary which is why you should be
ready with alternate options salary only typically accounts for about 70% of
employees total compensation which leaves lots of room on the negotiating
table for other benefits and perks and you can get creative there's gym
membership reimbursement professional development funding commuting expense
coverage more flexible work hours heck maybe it's just a cubicle that's as far
as possible from the obnoxiously loud co-worker come up with the top three
things you would change about your job and see if they're amenable when you've
got your presentation planned out it's time to rehearse the thought of
explaining why you deserve more money makes most people want to crawl under a
rock but it's important that you appear confident in your self-assessment so
have a friend or family member sit down with you and who doesn't get some
stumble through is out of the way the mirror isn't gonna cut it here you need
to sit across from a human being who can ask you questions that your employer
might bring up during your talk and don't ask for feedback from your
rehearsal partner until you've gone through it at least a couple times and
lastly be prepared to hear know even if you walk out of your boss's office with
nothing more than what you went in with it's not a defeat you have successfully
communicated your expectations about your career and shown your investment in
the company long-term trust me your employer will remember these things the
next time you're up for of you or a promotion becomes available you'll also
be giving yourself practice and asking for what you want something that is
difficult for a surprising number of people but essential to feeling like you
have control over your life ask my mother-in-law always says if you don't
ask the answer is always no so there's no harm in trying if you do it with
preparation and professionalism and you won't have to wonder whether you could
be making more and that's our two cents
you

Being Raised Transracial - Duration: 15:56.
Rebecca: Getting rid of the colorblindness mentality is the first step to doing that
because you can't just love away racism.
Kat: Yeah, yeah.
R: It's impossible.
It's a great theory.
I would love if it worked but it doesn't.
(intro music)
Kat: Hey guys, it's Kat and we're here today to talk about transracial adoption with
Rebecca, of OnlyBlackGirl.com Rebecca: Hello.
K: Can you define for the audience like what transracial actually is, like what that means.
R: Yeah, absolutely.
So basically it just means that somebody of one race that is adopted into a family of
another race.
Most commonly that would be people of color adopted by White people into families.
K: Okay, and so that was your experience?
R: Yes, that is my experience.
I am one of three transracial adoptees in my family.
I was the first to be adopted.
So in my family there's six kids; three are biological, three are adopted.
K: Oh, wow.
And your siblings, are they all black, or are they different races?
R: They're all black, we're not related.
Cuz people do think that since we're all black, but really we're not.
Yeah, so my family, my biological family's from Houston and then I have a brother.
His family's from Oregon and my sister's from Ethiopia.
K: Oh, wow okay.
R: So we're kind of from all over the place.
Kat: So one of the things I saw a lot in conversations around Rachel Dolezal co-opting the term transracial,
is that transracial adoptees have been fighting really really hard to be recognized.
I'm curious what exactly that means, and why her reclaiming that term was so hurtful
for so many people who were transracial adoptees Rebecca: Yeah, that whole debacle was very
frustrating for me personally, and I'm sure for other transracial adoptees.
But just because even before that we were still basically erased
Like we're never brought up in topics that have to do with racism.
We're kind of always people who are left out.
So we were already fighting to be seen and have their voices heard.
Everything that is centered around adoption is always centered around the parents and
nobody ever listens to us.
So we were already fighting that war.
And then this came out, and then that whole term 'transracial' just got like completely
blown out of proportion and co-opted.
So now you can't even say the word transracial without thinking about Rachel Dolezal, right,
when that was our term to begin with.
So we're just fighting a whole nother layer on top of that so it feels like we have to
knock down two walls just to get to the basics so we can even open up the conversation about
our experiences at all.
K: What was it like being adopted and being part of a family that didn't look like you?
Did you have like a lot of people questioning you when you were younger what the situation
was like?
How is that?
R: It was definitely very confusing for me as a child.
I definitely remember very early on kind of catching on just cuz if you're the only
person with brown skin surrounded by White people, it doesn't take very long to figure
it out.
So definitely I kind of caught on to it very quickly.
But my parents were very good about, you know, giving me the whole adoption spiel and they
were very open about, you know, if whenever you're ready we can talk about, you know,
finding your biological family and all that stuff.
But they weren't very good about talking about like the race though.
K: See, that's what I was gonna ask.
See, I'm adopted but my parents are Black.
Ad my parents really early on, like they had like the conversation with me about you know
how to interact with cops and you know how you're gonna be seen as like a person of
color.
And so, I'm curious how that went with you or if it did at all?
Like how did your parents- R: It really didn't, not even till this
day.
I think my mom's a little bit better just because I've been more vocal about it so
we've had more conversations, but it never really happened.
I think a lot of it even with most White adoptive parents is it just doesn't even cross their
minds.
Yeah it doesn't even cross their mind that there's like a difference because their
whole thing is, you know, we'll just love them all.
Which, you know, is great in theory but in reality there's a lot more complication
that goes into that.
A lot more resources that we need as people of color growing up.
So for me, it was kind of like going on this journey by myself because not only was I in
a White family, but I also grew up in Olympia, Washington, which is like the whitest of White.
K: And so growing up in like a mostly White neighborhood, being part of a family that
didn't really have a conversation with you about racism.
Was there like a time where you experienced racism, and then went to your parents and
they really didn't know how to- R: I don't know that I necessarily experienced
racism.
uz Olympia is kind of one of those places where they think they're progressive so
there's not really like a lot of outward racism that I experienced a lot later in life.
But it was a lot of things like, 'Oh can I touch your hair?'.
And then all of a sudden I would have like eight White women just like petting my hair,
and I was like 'What is going on?'.
That would be like these little microaggressions.
Yeah, they kind of freak me out and it was always like that because we were always the
family with Black kids.
So everybody knew us and my family have been in Olympia forever, so everybody kind of knows
the Hudson name and they kind of know we're the, 'Oh they're the White family with
Black kids'.
So it was kind of like just being tokenized your whole life.
'Oh it's the little Black kid'.
I do remember one particular memory that stood out to me was my mom.
She always goes to Goodwill.
She still does.
But while we were at Goodwill there was an older White woman who was passing by and she
said.
She looked at me, and I was still pretty young.
It must have been maybe seven, eightish, and she just looked at me and she said "Oh it's
been a long time since I've seen one of those before."
I didn't have like the, I didn't register that it was racism, but I just kind of, I
knew something was wrong about it.
It was off, made me feel very uncomfortable.
I was just like 'One of those?', while she was looking at me and I was just like
'What?'.
Yeah, that was one of the first I would say kind of more outwardly racist things and then
made me kind of like snap and be like, okay something is not.
There's something missing here because why am I being treated like this?
You know, that kind of thing.
And I remembered that was the time that I think I did speak to my mom about it and it
was just kind of one of those 'Oh she probably didn't mean it that way'.
But that's how we always get brushed off.
'She didn't mean it like that' or you know,'She's old, from a different time'.
K: It isn't any better.
R: Yeah, there's always those kind of excuses and then it's you know, it was always just
kind of swept under the rug.
K: Wow. so like how did you get to a point where now you're advocating for black people
and you know really talking a lot about anti-Blackness?
Because I know for a lot of people in those situations it's easier to just sort of make,
like you sid, the excuses for people like, 'Oh, they just don't know any better.
Oh not everyone's that way.', da da da da da.
So what was your story of like, I guess I hate this term, but becoming hashtag woke?
R: For me honestly it was college because I felt like in college I was able to kind
of explore more and also the first time that I was around people who were also people of
color.
I mean we had finally like kind of moved into the city so I was around more people and we
started going to a church that had more people of color in there.
So I was starting to be around more people of color.
But even when I was with Black people it was always 'Well you're a White girl. You're
White on the inside'.
That kind of thing.
But those kind of experiences kind of pushed me into diving more into learning about Black
culture.
So I would read a lot and just kind of getting more into Black culture.
Then when I went to college, I went to community college first, and at my community college
they had like a diversity center.
And so when I got involved there, that just kind of opened the door and when I actually
learned oh, like racism is a real thing.
I'm not the only person dealing with this.
I'm not the only person who gets asked weird questions in class or people look at me weird.
So it's kind of like the first time I ever felt validated for all the things that I was
experiencing.
I was like, 'Oh, okay it's not just me'.
And then just kind of progressed from there.
Starting to really just educate myself a lot more and I got more confident about speaking
out about my experiences.
I just kind of went from there.
K: So I imagine that like, being where you are now, like is going back for Thanksgiving
and things, is that rough?
Cuz you're probably talking a lot about stuff that maybe they're not as eager to
speak about because their view of like.
Cuz I imagine their view of racism was we are the world, it's you know, there is no-
R: Yeah I think for most of my family, especially since I've been speaking out a lot more
they've kind of hopped on board.
I mean they're still very ignorant about a lot of stuff but I think they're a lot
more open to at least listening.
Yeah, there are a few people.
Like my dad; didn't really receive it well and he was kind of like 'I'm not one of
those White people' and he was kind of just checked out, and I'm like, look, okay but
I'm still gonna be over here talking about what I'm talking about.
But people like my mom, she's a lot more open to like actually having a conversation.
So we do actually have a lot of conversations about you know what she did wrong, what she
can do now.
A lot of other family members do have adopted kids, too.
But they just don't talk about it at all.
So even like today they're like 'Okay, I messed up when you were a kid.
What do you want me to do about it now?'.
Well don't check out like that.
We're still here.
Just because we're not kids anymore, you know.
So my mom and I do have a lot more conversations about that and even with my siblings we do.
I think it's just a lot more.
It's not as much as like walking on eggshells anymore and they know that I'm gonna say
something regardless.
So whether you're comfortable or not I'm still gonna say something.
K: You're that person.
R: I am.
I'm the kind of person everybody tiptoes on.
'We can't make any jokes, Rebecca's here'.
I'm like, 'Well you can't cuz I'm gonna call you out'.
K: I mean I'm with you.
Honestly, I feel like Thanksgiving, those are the best times to call people out.
R: It really is.
K: We have everyone together you know, bring them to the table.
Let's talk about it.
Do you wish sometimes that you were raised by Black people?
R: Um, I mean I can't really speak to wishing being raised by Black people just because
I wasn't.
So I have no idea how that difference would be.
Because I've even talked to adoptees who were raised in families of the same race and
they still have a lot of issues.
There's just a lot of issues that come with being adopted period.
So there's just an extra layer when it's a White family, you have to deal with racism.
But as far as adoption into same race families, that would be great but problem is there's
a way overwhelming statistic of just more White people who are adopting.
Which makes sense because adopting is not free.
It's very expensive, it's a lot of intensive stuff that goes into it, so I understand that.
So I feel like instead of limiting who can adopt who, we just have better education and
provide more resources for the white people going into it and frankly just have better
screenings of families because there's a lot of families who are adopting out of ill
will.
And we get caught up with these very terrible abusive families and that shouldn't be happening
just because people just want to get people placed in homes.
You know, there should just be an overall better structure for the adoption industry.
Kat: What would you say to parents who are adopting children of color?
Because, you described that you weren't raised with an awareness of racism.
Like what are some things that people who are adopting Black children, or really children
of color, or children who are outside of the race, what are some things that they can do
in order to make them sort of have a better relation?
Because I can totally imagine that when you grow up and you experience racism you sort
of might end up in a situation where now you're resenting your family for not having a conversation.
Rebecca: Yeah, it happens a lot.
It happens a lot.
I've even seen it in my own family.
My number one suggestion or advice that I would give is to just immediately get rid
of the colorblind mentality because I think that's like the number one thing that holds
back White adoptive parents.
Because when most agencies that do like adoption stuff, they just, there's no education for
like transracial adoption or like how to prepare for it.
And so a lot of parents just go into this 'Well, we'll just love them all and that'll
be great'.
I mean, yes, you should love all your kids but there's an extra layer on that because
we are people of color.
Regardless of how much you love us we still live in a world that hates us.
So in order for you to be a good parent you need to be able to give your children the
resources that they need to survive in this world as people of color.
And as a White person you're not gonna understand all those experiences because you've never
had to deal with them.
So that means that you're really gonna have to apply yourself and do the research and
do the education.
I talk on my blog a lot about how White adoptive parents need to be both a parent and an ally.
You have to do both of them together and getting rid of the colorblindness mentality is the
first step to doing that because you can't just love away racism.
It's impossible.
It's a great theory.
I would love if it worked, but it doesn't.
It just does not work.
K: What would you say would be like a good starting point for someone who is currently
adopted a child of color, to start in sort of being better and maybe avoiding some of
the things that you've experienced?
R: Well, like I said, Google is always free.
I mean I personally have a blog and I also know that there are a lot of other adoptees
that have blogs and are making content so those are great places to start.
And also just general education about racism and whatever other issues that you're dealing
with or that your child may deal with that's specific, whether you have special needs kids
or whatever it is you just need to be able to do the work yourself and educate yourself
and maybe even make it like a family thing.
You know, like bring the whole family into it and so everybody is on the same page.
Everybody knows the steps to take and what everybody needs to do to get, you know, educated
about racism and this is what you do when the police show up or, yada yada, all those
kind of things.
You know, just kind of really just take charge and do it yourself.
Books.
Like there's so many things.
K: What's a good book do you think?
Like what's a good start book?
R: One of my favorite books is, 'The People's History of the United States', I believe
it's called.
Yeah, and I really like that book just because it gives a more, it gives a history of America
from people of color.
Their perspective, basically.
So when I read it, I read it in a college class, a multicultural America college class
and it was like the first time that I ever like read American history, but from the view
of people of color.
And I was like, 'Woah, this is like completely different than what they taught us in school',
you know, from the White people's version.
So just stuff like that just offers another perspective that you can be like, 'Oh, well,
maybe I don't know everything because I'm only seeing through my eyes'.
So looking at stuff from our eyes, or other people's perspectives, would kind of help
you navigate, ya know.
K: Alright, so thank you so much for coming and speaking to me about this.
This was really illuminating, and it gave me a lot to think about.
I'm sure my audience a lot to think about.
Where can people find you if they wanted to get more information about transracial adoptees,
anti-Blackness, all the stuff that you write about.
R: Yeah, my website is OnlyBlackGirl.com, and then it's OnlyBlackGirl pretty much
on everything: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
So you can find me all those places.
K: Alright, I hope you guys enjoyed that conversation.
