BEHIND THE SCENES with Konrad Junghänel and Stefan Herheim | XERXES Handel - Deutsche Oper am Rhein - Duration: 8:19.

For over 30 years the form called opera seria had been dominant in London.

It consists of long arias, during which the story stands still and then recitatives

in which the narrative moves forward.

This form was quite rigid and it had no chance of surviving in England.

The audience were a bit fed up with it.

Of course Handel noticed this and tried to use his genius to counteract it

by thinking of innovations within this form.

And Xerxes is a wonderful example:

The arias become shorter. There are far more different, shorter passages

in which the story progresses.

That means there isn't always a standstill in the arias

where the music alone is dominant,

the narrative is continually moving forward.

That's what's new.

But ultimately it clearly didn't achieve the success he'd hoped for.

Xerxes was probably only performed five times: then the play was removed from the repertoire.

Its time in London was over.

Shortly after that Handel would "only" write oratorios.

These were not intended for the stage –

and musically they were probably his greatest works of all.

Basically it was essential, so-called historically

informed performance practice:

it's done a great deal for this music by going "back to the roots"

and using the musical tools that were available at the time –

it's filled this music with a lot more life, music from the high baroque,

the first half of the 18th century, with a very strong emphasis on rhythm.

All of that was necessary in order to really bring this music to life again.

Not just Xerxes, but all the operas of this period.

With its tighter form, Xerxes offers a lot of possibilities

to really stay on the ball and maintain the tension.

The quick and contrasting changes between individual arias

and mini-arias make this easier too.

In this brilliant production by Stefan Herheim the whole thing

simply becomes an incredibly entertaining and lively evening.

Ever since opera began, with Monteverdi,

the singers were the big stars

and 80 per cent of the total budget always went on them.

What was left went on a small orchestra and maybe a little chorus and some sets.

This cult of the star was huge

and it reached its peak in Handel's time.

The Italian castrati, who were distinguished by an enormous vocal range,

over three octaves,

and with a very particular, rather boyish timbre

– they were the non plus ultra of the time.

These castrati were highly sought after and as soon as they went on stage

they were always an immediate success.

We don't have any more castrati today, thank God.

We have two options:

we can either cast the role with a woman, a mezzo,

or with a countertenor –

who have also only been available again for a few decades

and who have now become specialists excelling in this area.

To us of course this countertenor voice still has something remarkable

because it's still exotic, it's a tradition that was interrupted:

in the 19th century it was unknown.

At that time a man singing in such a high register seemed outrageous,

though in the 18th century it was quite normal and no one found it comic

– and now we've almost got back to the stage

where most people no longer find it funny.

They have a very particular timbre in the upper register

and a virtuosity that really suits what's required here.

I'm a director because of the music, not the other way round.

I work in the theatre because of the music.

And my work is always entirely dictated by the music.

It's about taking this composed score

and creating the feeling that it's actually being improvised.

We don't embellish anything and we don't cheapen

something sublime, immediate and centuries old

as if we're pressing the button on a CD player.

Instead we need to feel that the singers are in the here and now

– in a situation that emboldens and encourages them

to produce these sounds completely fresh, here and now, as if they were today's.

Of course we don't try to reproduce the language of the baroque period precisely

– this would be impossible and we don't have the conditions

to read it in our time as it would have been understood then.

What's more important is the work of translation that reveals this mechanism

and of course we have to work with other mechanical signs and meanings.

I quote a great many images that are floating around immediately in our heads;

from films, literature etc.

We have changed the text so that people can feel:

we're not on foreign ground here, but in the centre of where we see ourselves.

We quote entire characters in archetypical form

representing principles such as loyalty, youth, humility,

overconfidence, royal rule, tyranny, despotism etc.

– and that's also reflected in the costumes.

My idea is that it all revolves around the boards that mean the world:

the stage that constitutes the baroque theatre.

The characters were fighting for the right of this world to continue to exist,

to function, so that the audience reacts as it should and

for them to be loved.

These people on stage are actually fighting for the right

behind these masks, behind this artificial, virtuoso disguise of roles,

of a skill that they have spent a lifetime working on for it to keep going,

so that this stage can continue to justify its existence.

Sadhguru - Are you capable of doing anything else except waiting? - Duration: 13:20.

Questioner: You were telling us the importance of waiting, to wait.

So what I wanted to ask is why…why this waiting?

Why does one have to wait like this?

Why can't it be without waiting for a long time?

Thank you.

Sadhguru: I did not talk about waiting for a long time.

I was talking about waiting as a quality, not as time.

I was only talking about waiting as a certain quality within you, not about how long have

you waited.

You're fidgeting…

You're fidgety and you wait for a thousand years, it's no good.

You're fidgety and you're waiting for 10,000 years, what does it mean?

It means nothing.

It just means you're wasting your time.

Waiting as a quality- that you simply wait.

You can only wait upon somebody or something when you do not think much of yourself.

If you're absolute nothing, you can wait on anything.

If you think too much of yourself, you cannot wait upon anything or anybody.

You will see the more educated people become, the more affluent people become, they cannot

wait.

Have you seen this?

People who don't think much of themselves, you ask a villager comes here, you tell him,

'Just wait,' he'll simply sit there whole day, but you ask an educated man to

wait, (Gestures - hastily looks at his watch and looks up) (Laughter).

In a minute he will look at his watch five times because he cannot wait, because he thinks

too much of himself.

One who does not think much of himself can simply wait.

And if you understand the proportion of who you are in this existence, you would know

there was no other way than to wait.

Right now, when I said a proportion, you are a speck compared to the cosmos, isn't it?

You better wait.

If you don't know how to wait, (Laughs) you will know nothing, because your proportion

in relation to the existence is too small, there's nothing you can do.

Is there something you can do?

If you hop around what do you get?

You get nothing.

You can earn hypertension but nothing else you'll get.

So I am not asking you to wait, there is simply nothing else to do (Few Laugh).

It's not my idea that you should wait.

If you could go and get it, I would say, 'Go get it.'

You can't go and get it.

So you better wait.

If you are very rich and capable, you will go to the store and get what you want.

If you're poor, what do you do?

You go and wait in front of the ration shop.

They'll say they'll open at ten o'clock, they always open only at 12:30 (Few Laugh),

but you wait with a bag in your hand because if you don't wait, there are hundred people

standing behind you, you will end up in the last.

You will have to wait the whole day.

So you will wait.

Why?

Because you're incapable of doing something else.

Right now look at your position in the existence.

Are you capable of anything else than to wait?

Are you?

I'm asking.

With reference to the existence, are you capable of doing anything else except waiting?

That's all you can do.

At least do it joyfully (Laughs); just to wait.

So waiting is not about time, waiting is a certain quality.

It's a certain way of being and that is only possible when you understand your proportion

in the existence.

If you have funny ideas in your head, you cannot wait.

You have a exaggerated sense of who you are, you cannot wait.

If you think you are a king you cannot wait.

When you see the reality of who you are in this existence, only then you can wait.

Waiting comes because you have perceived the reality the way it is.

You're unable to wait because your mind is full of fancifulness.

Perception will naturally lead to waiting.

(Questioner): Sadhguru you have said 'creation has done its job;

now it's your job to live the life.

It's not… it's… rather than looking up'

but you have also said 'Upasana'

you should be side role, not main role'

but these two things are contradictory...

it seems contradicting to me at least.

How is this?

(Sadhguru): So, has creation done its job?

So one half of the statement is right;

no contradiction about that.

Have you done your job?

No, so the other part is also right.

At the same time I'm saying be in Upasana

because your role in the existence is so small.

Everything that happens to you largely is being done to you.

Are you spinning the planet?

No.

Could you live if it did not spin?

Could you live?

No.

Are you managing the atmosphere?

No, you're spoiling it but you're not managing it, isn't it?

Are you making your heart beat?

No.

Are you breathing?

Everything that's vital to life is happening, isn't it?

Your business is just to become receptive to the bounty of life;

to know life in its fullest way.

If you're willing to be blissful,

joyful,

do something worthwhile about yourself

or you're willing to do something worthwhile about ten people around you;

we will take care of your living also.

All you have to do is to whom?

Just the creation.

Isn't it big enough to bow down?

Isn't it big enough to bow down?

Just the creation.

On top of that you want one more thing?

Isn't creation itself big enough to bow down I'm asking.

Isn't the mountain big enough to bow down?

I find even the tree and a ant big enough to bow down

because not one of them can we figure.

With all your intelligence you can't figure a leaf upon this tree,

one leaf.

So, just the sheer intelligence of everything that is happening;

when you can't figure anything what do you do?

That's all I said.

Stay in Upasana because

anyway your role is so minor in this existence

that tomorrow morning if you evaporate - no problem.

Only if you leave your mess here and go, problem,

but if you simply evaporate there's no problem for anybody,

isn't it?

Yes or no?

So your role in your own life is so minor,

so very minor;

everything is being done to you,

just everything.

So, how can you be the hero?

When you have a two-bit role

if you think you are a hero you're making a serious mistake, isn't it?

That's all I'm talking about.

I am not talking about doing any great spiritual sadhana,

but if you are

if you live in truth that is a sadhana, what else?

To stop the lies that you're creating,

that is all the sadhana.

Searching for truth, knowing truth does not mean

you have to go in search of it somewhere.

It's not hiding behind the mountain;

it's on this side, you know.

Right now this part of the planet is dark,

so will you go looking on the other side?

No, it's here.

Truth means just this;

whatever there is, is truth.

Whatever you have made up is a lie.

That's all there is, isn't it?

And you being a hero in this existence, is your rubbish.

It's got nothing to do with reality.

So if you understand that

you understand you have a very minor role in the existence;

not just in the making of the existence, in your own life.

Even if something as simple as breath or heartbeat

is left in your hand you will be a complete mess within a minute.

Yes or no?

So I'm not saying anything new.

Not a teaching,

just reminding you the reality of what your life is

and that's all living in truth means

that you've not made up anything.

You're not writing your own story; you're

you are trying to live life.

If you live life you can only live it the way it is.

Only if you make up a story you can make your own story, isn't it?

If you are doing fiction you can make it up the way you want.

If you're living life, you can live life only the way it is;

there is no other way to live.

So do not think it's some kind of a teaching.

That's how life is.

Just live it;

don't make up any story.

If you make up a story which is not true

and believe it is true,

when your script comes to an end

then you'll be at a loss because there is nothing.

If you go with reality,

it is on whether you are alive or dead; it's on.

You being with it is the safest way to be, best way to be.

That's the only way you can experience life.

Otherwise you will experience the treachery of your own words,

nothing else.

Creating Color Shadows: OnSet ep. 196 - Duration: 4:59.

Hey this is Daniel Norton.

I'm here in my studio in New York City

with Ashley, and we decided to try

something fun.

She had a black dress,

and I have a white wall,

and we said that seems boring, so we're

gonna throw some color at it.

So I'm gonna use the idea of kind of one light,

crossing the other light and filling in

to create essentially colored shadows on

the wall. Now when you're doing this kind

of technique, you can take it to all

different kinds of extremes. When I do it

I like generally to have at least

one neutral in there, to keep the balance

to the eye. So I've got a B1X over here

with a color gel. This one is we call it

pink. It's a pink color this is a B1X

over here with a purple.. purpley color,

Right? And this is a B2, that is fitted

with a 10 degree grid. 10 degree grid,

because wherever the neutral light hits,

we're not gonna have any color. I don't

want to get rid of all my color, I just

want to have like a little bit of clean

light on her face. So this is going to be

a hard light, which as we've used

actually in many videos before.

We know that her face takes hard light

really nicely, so you're good for this.

if you had to use like a big soft light, it

probably would get rid of our shadows

too much. So you kind of want to think

about that.

So with this all combined I'm

gonna go back to my camera here, and

yeah

I've got the 85mm on my Canon,

I've got the three light setup, and will

shoot each one individually, first so

first we're gonna do the, I'll turn them

all off first. All right they're off, I'm

going to turn on A, so A is, this guy over

here with the purple, so we can see what

that looks like.

OK, we've got a bit of a purpley shot

there. It's a little on the dark side, but

I think we'll adjust that once we get

them all going, because we're gonna add

extra light to it. So let's turn over a

second on our pink light, right, okay

that's about the same exposure as a

purple one roughly, and with this little

thing here, you know, even just that is

kind of interesting right? Why not? And

then of course our clean light is in the

center. It also creates kind of a

spotlight, a cool look, but you can

already get a feeling how this is gonna

work out right? So now let's bring them

all up.

So they're all on now, and then

again I'm in manual.

What I'm gonna do is

take a shot, I'm gonna make adjustments

to each like to get them where we want,

but you'll see immediately what happens here.

Okay we've got remember everything

looked a little bit dark, that's why I left

it the way it was. We have a nice light

on her face, you know you get a little

color in there, but it's definitely you

know, neutralish right? It is a hard light

like I said, so you're getting some little

highlights, but that's okay.

Oh look at that cool catch-light in her eye.

It's like aliens are coming in,

and then we've got our shadows over here,

so of course wherever more of the white

light is hitting, the shadow is, is less

intense colors. Just like light blue

and then you've got always down to a

darker purple here, and when she moves

her arm around creating different

shadows, will get different shapes so

let's just bang some stuff out see what we got.

Again this is all about playing.. nice... don't

worry about it too much...

you could if you weren't actually shooting

an OnSet video while you were doing this

you could turn the lights off, and just put

the modeling light on,

but what you guys probably

aren't shooting an outside video I'm

assuming. Actually nice, there we go, fun,

simple, and you can do this in any which way.

You could even just have one colored

light coming in, and wherever you

multi-angle to, wherever you don't have

neutral. Is going to be the color right?

So basically over here, we've got

different degrees of the light, and just

to show you that because I always like

to throw in one extra thing I didn't talk about when,

before we started is...

I'm just gonna take the grid off show you the difference

grid... what I just said was 10 degrees, but it's

actually 20, and that eats up some light.

Ooh we got some mail.

So I'm going to turn the light down a stop,

and let's see what... yeah now, we have a big spread

of light.

We only have the colored shadow

where her shadow would be from that key

light. Right?

nice and simple, it's a cool

technique to try.

Really easy, and again these are just

individual hard lights.

They could be anything, I'm using Profoto

B1X's, you could be using speed lights,

even just with constant lights.

if you, if you were in a dark enough space

and to get a cool effect.

So going to put Ashley's information in the

descriptions so you guys can follow her,

be sure to follow me

ZWYNTAR - Човен (The Boat) [Official Lyrics Video] - Duration: 5:15.

Things were going as planned,

there were three of us

We had masks and some weapons

The first of us was on the job

the second on the look-out

the third in the car

But something went wrong

they started shooting and yelling

Now we are running through the mist

need to cross the river

And there's a trail of blood

Going to the ferry

Hey you, man in the boat, can you hear me

Row to me

I will pay in silver

I will give up all that you choose to take

no regrets

Just take me to your boat

The lost soul will flow with the water

It will be better on the other side

Is there, or is there not

A place for me in the boat?

The man in the boat says

there are not enough seats

You and you two,

you can get to the boat

And you, dude, your wound is light

It's not your time

And he pushed from the bank as hard as he could

I stayed

and they left

I heard the dogs bark

in the mist

and that was the end

Hey you, man in the boat, can you hear me

Row to me

I will pay in silver

I will give up all that you choose to take,

no regrets

Just take me to your boat

The lost soul will flow with the water

It will be better on the other side

Is there, or is there not

A place for me in the boat?

Guys, you're lucky he took you

And I was patched up and put to jail

You can't go on the boat from here,

here it's watertight

The window's barred

My judgment's tomorrow, and they will condemn me

There's no other way, I will ride the lightning

But I know that

the electric chair means

It's my ticket to the boat

Presentation of the Book: "Can you stand the Truth The chronicle of Mans imprisonment - Duration: 4:44.

Can you stand the Truth? The chronicle of man's imprisonment

A book with cosmological content in the form of a study,

arraying in its sum of 635 bibliographic citations

which accompany its main corpus

information and excerpts from scientific research,

ancient and sacred texts from every mythology, religion,

philosophical viewpoints, the Christian Apocryphal Gospels,

as well as metaphysical views,

so as to compose the complete image of the puzzle

of man's role in the world.

Furthermore, the contemporary problems of humanity

and the entire planet are dealt with and fully explained.

The information brought forth by this book is like a puzzle:

Only when ALL its pieces ARE PUT TOGETHER

can it produce the complete picture.

If one looks at  each puzzle piece/evidence independently,

reading the book incrementally

ONE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PERCEIVE THE COMPLETE PICTURE

and will UNDOUBTEDLY get the wrong impression.

The complete picture of the TRUTH is presented as a new PERCEPTION

when one COMPLETES THE ENTIRE BOOK,

and is not to be found in the individual segments/elements/parts.

And to close the circle of knowledge offered,

many controversial issues are tackled,

without reservations or in fear they might not be "convenient" to the readers…

Parts of THE TRUTH are found fragmented in every viewpoint,

religion, aspect, and human ideology.

But not a single one of the them can give us the complete picture of the Truth.

As an example, we can take Newton's spinning-disk experiment

and the deflection of (white) light into the seven colors of the rainbow.

WHITE LIGHT –which contains all colors– is like the ONE TRUTH,

which, like a magic picture, lies in front of everyone's eyes.

Man, remaining firmly ATTACHED to his personal view (color)

cannot compose all colors – aspects – viewpoints

and gaze at the 'White' color of the TRUTH.

If he can position himself however at a specific "place/point"

he will be able TO SEE.

Then, everything gets decoded in front of his eyes

like a hidden picture that suddenly appears.

The contents of this book gradually move the reader

through an ascending-spiral process,

from a simple position to a complex one,

so as to smoothly reposition him to a different dimension,

wherefrom he can gaze at a very different world

from what he has believed in up to now.

Read the Book

Jinjer - Pisces / In Flames - I Am Above [Реакция / Reaction] (Eng Sub) - Duration: 13:24.

Hi guys!

Today I will make reactions to the most requested bands.

Reactions to Jinjer and In Flames.

I know about Ginger for a long time and managed to love them.

In Flames unfortunately passed me by.

Yes, I heard about this band, but I never got acquainted with their work.

Today I will watch and listen to them with you for the first time.

Beautiful voice. Beautiful.

I really like their drumming.

The song ends on a very powerful note.

I heard this song a long time ago, but it did not impress me.

At that time, I did not know anything about Jinjer.

I really loved them only after the last EP

My favorite songs are Ape and Perennial

Let me say a few words about the video.

It's just Live Session. Nothing special.

Now let's talk about Tatiana's vocals. She has cool clean vocals.

Very powerful bottoms

and I speak not only about extreme vocals, but specifically about clean.

But most of all I like her vocals in the latest EP.

That's where she did a great job. I always have tingles all over my body after listening.

Extreme vocals in this song are crazy.

To be honest, I have not heard such female extreme vocals yet.

It is very bold, powerful and low.

They cause me only admiration.

They are now at a professional level.

I know that in 2013 they received an award as the best metal band in Ukraine.

Well done! My respect.

Let's talk about the instrumental.

I do not understand this well.

Drum parts are great.

I am a little keen on drums.

Drummer sets a cool rhythm.

The parts are very diverse.

I am not a musician and I can not explain professionally.

I speak as I hear and as an amateur.

These guys are in my heart. Waiting for a new album.

I know that they recently released an EP (if you didn't hear, be sure to listen), but I want an album.

Clean vocals are cool.

Huge beautiful blue eyes. I adore blue eyes.

At first I did not understand a little why they invited the actor.

But after watching the video and listening to the song, I realized that it was necessary.

The actor was able to express absolutely all the emotions that are in the song.

Actor, they took the Swedish from the series Mr. Robot. Martin Wahlstrom.

When you look at him, you get more song and your impressions are multiplied.

This is a great job.

It seems that nothing special. Black background, huge blue eyes in which you can drown.

The song is gorgeous. I don't really like extreme vocals, I love a heavier sound, like in a deathcore, but everything is clear with me ...

But clean vocals ... incredible. I do not know why I did not listen to this band before.

I will definitely add this song to my playlist.

I will listen to their songs more. And thanks to the guys who wrote to me, "listen to In Flames necessarily".

I found a cool band for myself. I hope I could open it for someone. Although it seems to me that I alone did not hear them ...

That's all for today. Thank you for your requests. Write in the comments that I have to watch further.

Soon I will start doing live broadcasts. Subscribe to my instagram in order not to miss the news about it.

Thank you for watching! Bye!

Tuesday tip of the week - Easement and license EXPLAINED!! - Duration: 0:59.

Hey everybody Kartik Subramaniam over at ADHI Schools. Welcome to your real estate tip of the week!

Remember that the main difference between an easement and a license is that a license is revocable. You'll know from your studies

Of course that an easement is the right to travel over someone else's property to get to your own

but you've got to be careful! If you give me an easement over your land because if you decide in a year or two that

You don't want me to use it anymore -You're kind of stuck. Easements are not revocable

Licenses are! So if you give me a license to use your land, and then in a year or two you decide that

You want to build a big fence and block my access you could do that if you gave me a license.

So remember the main difference between an easement and the license is that a license is revocable
