Waching daily Jun 28 2018

Only one place to start this morning and that's Russia.

As far as World Cup upsets come... they don't get much bigger than what we witnessed on

Wednesday.

In a truly remarkable match,...

South Korea beat the reigning World Cup champions Germany two-nil in their final Group F game.

Despite the stunning win, South Korea are out,... but the squad will come home to a

proud nation with their heads held high.

Our man following the World Cup for us,... Lee Seung-jae,... has the details.

The 13th day of the 2018 World Cup was anything but unlucky for South Korea as they produced

one of the biggest World Cup upsets EVER in Kazan.

The Taeguk Warriors, without their captain Ki Sung-yueng ,... played by far their best

game of this year's World Cup,... keeping the Germans at bay for the duration of the

match's 90-plus minutes.

However,... it was in the third minute of stoppage time that world football shook.

South Korea's Kim Young-gwon slotted home a close-range shot that was initially called

off-side,... but upon closer inspection by the video referee,... Kim was deemed onside

and the goal was awarded to South Korea.

The goal sparked desperate scenes from Germany, as they realized they were heading toward

first-round elimination for the first time since 1938, with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer going

on the offense, leaving a gaping hole for Son Heung-min to slot home an easy second

goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

Despite the historic win, South Korea will be leaving Russia along with Germany,... but

it's the Germans that finish rock bottom of Group F.

However, the win was bittersweet as the two-nil victory might have been enough for South Korea

to progress had it not been for a surprise three-nil victory by Sweden over Mexico.

The result means Sweden and Mexico are the Group F teams that qualify for the last 16.

South Korea might be out,... but a new star has been born.

Goalkeeper Jo Hyun-woo,... nicknamed Dae-Gea,.. a reference to his club team Daegu FC,.. and

a comparison to star Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea,... made some of the most impressive

saves of the World Cup so far,... including six against Germany.

Jo's heroics between the goalposts have brought him to the attention of several European teams.

UNESCO urges Japan to let world know of Hashima Island's brutal history - Duration: 1:58.

In other news...

Japan's Hashima Island is where hundreds of Koreans workers were forced to toil in coal

mines.

While Tokyo has failed to implement its promise to let the world know of the island's brutal

history,...

UNESCO urged Japan to inform the world and seek dialogue with South Korea regarding the

matter.

Kim Hyo-sun tells us more.

UNESCO has urged Japan to tell the world about the brutality committed against the forced

laborers of Korea who worked on Japan's Hashima Island during its colonial rule of the Korean

Peninsula from 1910 to 1945.

The decision came at UNESCO's 42nd session of the World Heritage Committee on Wednesday,...

during which the international body reviewed the follow-up measures promised by Japan when

its 23 industrial facilities including those on Hashima Island, which is located off the

coast of Nagasaki in southern Japan, were registered as World Cultural Heritage sites

back in 2015.

Tokyo promised to inform the world about the dark side of Hashima's history.

Yet, the fortress-like island which attracts thousands of visitors annually,... is only

introduced as a coal mine that was opened in the 1940s.

And breaking the promise it made to UNESCO,... Japan dropped the word "forced" when referring

to those who worked on the island, falsely saying that Koreans provided "voluntary help."

UNESCO called for the faithful implementation of its recommendations,... while urging Japan

and South Korea to engage in dialogue on the issue.

Seoul's foreign ministry called such decision "meaningful,"... adding it will continue to

seek dialogue with Tokyo as well as the international community.

The South Korean government's report says about 500 to 800 Koreans are estimated to

have been forced to work under harsh conditions on the island,... and over one-hundred died

from malnutrition or accidents.

"Reengineering Peace for Asia" the 13th Jeju Forum starts off - Duration: 1:30.

Opinion leaders, diplomats and government officials have gathered on Korea's southern

resort island of Jeju to exchange ideas on international cooperation and peace on the

peninsula, among other topics.

Our Hong Yoo takes us to the opening ceremony of this year's Jeju Forum.

South Korea is ready to end the decades-long division on the Korean Peninsula.

Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon said Wednesday, at the opening of the 13th Jeju Forum, that

the country is seeking international cooperation to build a permanent peace between the two

Koreas.

"The division of the Korean Peninsula was not the choice of our people but the result

of Japanese occupation and the Cold War framework.

We need to overcome this with the help of the international community."

The forum has come at a timely moment, following the two inter-Korean summits and the subsequent

North Korea-U.S. summit that produced a joint statement between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump

on denuclearization and improving bilateral ties.

So much of the discussions during this three-day forum are dedicated to the question of maintaining

the current momentum towards peace on the Korean Peninsula and turning that momentum

into a permanent peace.

This year's Jeju Forum is expected to see the biggest turnout yet with more than five

and a half thousand people from 70 different countries.

The forum runs through Thursday.

Number of newborns in S. Korea hit record low in April 2018 - Duration: 2:21.

South Korea has been struggling with a chronically-low birthrate for many years now.

And despite government efforts,... so far the situation is not getting any better...

in fact it's getting worse.

With fewer than 28-thousand babies born in the whole of South Korea in April,… another

unwanted record has been set.

Ko Roon-hee reports.

Despite the government's efforts, the number of births in Korea hit another record low.

According to a Statistics Korea report released on Wednesday… the number of births fell

8.9 percent on year to 27-thousand-7-hundred in April.

That's the lowest since monthly records were first compiled in 1981.

The number of newborn babies in the January to April period was also at its lowest level--

less than 120-thousand.

Many South Koreans feel there are two main reasons for this chronic problem.

They believe it's too expensive to raise a child and it takes a long time for a person

to get a job and think about marriage.

"Compared to other countries, private education is very expensive in South Korea.

I think a lot of couples don't have enough money even for the two of them... and many

can't afford to pay extra for their children's education."

"Many South Korean women are stressed when they are applying for universities or jobs.

So after they graduate or get employed, many want to enjoy their own time... instead of

getting married or having a child."

In addition to these problems, a social welfare expert says many pregnant women face discrimination

in South Korea.

"When women get pregnant in South Korea, they are discriminated against both at home and

in the workplace.

At home, they have to raise their child on their own without anyone's help.

At work, some are forced to leave their job.

Women have to overcome this discrimination to raise a child, and many give up in the

first place."

The South Korean government has poured more than 71-billion U.S. dollars into solving

the low birthrate over the past decade... including giving cash rewards to people with

children.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping tells Mattis that China won't give up 'even one inch' of territory - Duration: 0:47.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned the United States that China is committed to peace,

but will not give up "even one inch" of territory.

China's state media reports that is what he told visiting U.S. Defense Secretary James

Mattis on Wednesday.

The remarks come amid tensions between the world's two superpowers over what the Pentagon

views as China's militarization of the South China Sea.

U.S. defense officials said that,... while both sides acknowledged points of friction,...

they also sought to focus on their shared goal of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Mattis is due in Seoul for talks with South Korean officials later today.

North Korea understands scope of denuclearization required by U.S.: Pompeo - Duration: 0:56.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has stated that contacts with North Korea are ongoing,...

with him in the lead of the communication.

However,... during testimony to the Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday, Pompeo

refused to give any details.

He said he was not prepared to talk about the details of internal discussions taking

place with Pyongyang, calling it inappropriate and counterproductive,... before adding that

the North Koreans would be (quote) "watching this hearing."

The top U.S. diplomat said he was sure the regime knew the scope of denuclearization

the Trump administration is calling for.

Pompeo also confirmed that no remains of U.S. soldiers killed during the Korean War have

been handed over by the North, but is optimistic they will be "in the not too distant future."

Rival parties begin negotiations to normalize the National Assembly - Duration: 2:09.

South Korea's rival parties have started discussions to bring some normalcy back to the National

Assembly after months of gridlock and inaction.

They were in the same room on Wednesday -- which is a start -- but as yet,... little progress

has been made.

Our Kim Mok-yeon reports.

On Wednesday, floor leaders of the nation's four negotiation blocs officially begun discussions

on normalizing parliamentary affairs.

Floor leaders of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea, main opposition Liberty Korea Party,

minor Bareun Mirae Party and the group of lawmakers for Peace and Justice gathered at

the National Assembly, on Wednesday afternoon.

"What's important now is for the parliament to be normalized.

We, the Democratic Party of Korea will try to give in as much as possible so that we

could come up with an agreement as soon as possible."

"The ruling party not only took over the top office but also local authorities.

If it also takes over the legislative power, there will be no one left to check and balance.

I will try my best to come up with a compromise together with my respectful fellow floor leaders."

After speaking at a closed-door meeting, the representatives did not provide further details

and stopped short of saying that business-level negotiations will begin as early as Thursday,

adding that the floor leaders will gather again as soon as meaningful results have been

drawn up.

However, a bumpy road seems to be ahead, as all four negotiating blocs have different

scenarios planned, especially when it comes to allocating key positions in the parliament.

One of the top agenda to be discussed is the selection of the National Assembly's new speaker

and vice speakers and the heads of the 18 standing committees.

Conventionally, the party with the most seats in the 300 member parliament took the speakership

in Korea, which raises the chances for the ruling party to take on the key role.

So the ruling party is pushing for the parliamentary leadership to be decided first,

but opposition parties are claiming that the parliamentary chairmanship, comprised of 1

speaker, 2 vice speaker, should be selected in tandem with a fair allocation of standing

committees.

Anime North 2018 Vlog ~ OTAKU VS. PROTESTORS!? I HAVE GOD AND ANIME ON MY SIDE! [DAY 3 - SUNDAY] - Duration: 5:46.

It's Anime North day 3.

The final day. I'm dressed up as a Harvest Moon

playable character with my chicken!

That's my chicken.

I got seed bags and... milk.

Anyways, I plan on mostly shopping today but I'm also

gonna get an autograph from Junko... Voice actor of Tomoyo from Cardcaptor Sakura

It's too damn early basically.

Anyways let's go!

So I finished going to get Junko's

autograph and she was super cute. I got a Tomoyo figure signed and now

I'm going to try to go make the ita bag panel.

Also I don't get to bring my bag

because it's in my suitcase... heading over to the Delta hotel now.

So I went to the ita bag panel and it was really fun. I wish I would've brought my

ita bag I didn't, but I got to see a bunch of other really nice ones. I'm going to

look for some fun Japanese snacks now.

Yes this is the food I am eating.

This is a video.

So earlier there was like this religious group... that's I don't know...

anti-cosplay, anti-gay... all that kind of stuff

they were just like protesting but you

know that's allowed, they're allowed to do that even though I HIGHLY disagree

with them

but the thing that was funny is a bunch of people started basically

preaching the anime gospel.

Which got pretty crazy and I think it's better if

I just show some footage of that actually...

*Pokemon remix music plays*

*KO sound effect*

*Victory Music*

So I went back to the artist alley for the end of the day...

and I found a Guts keychain!

I am so so happy with this Guts keychain like I've mentioned it

probably earlier in the video that I was looking for Berserk merch(andise)...

Basically the whole con specifically Guts because I want to make an ita bag

of Guts and this one's super damn cute.

So this is a total win and I honestly when I

saw it I was like *squee sound*

and I squeed... I squeed.

and like an idiot I did that. (Shame)

but yeah I'm really happy I found it...

It's the end of the con, it was super duper fun.

I might do

some kind of like little... you know summary I guess?

Of it when I get to an

area that isn't so bright and I need to get in the car and get home.

I'm home to see my babies.

I'm still in cosplay and I think I'm freaking them out.

There's one baby

Where's the other one?

There's the other baby... there he goes!

Yeah, I'm scaring them.

HelloOoOOo? (Weird voice)

Honestly "past me" is a huge liar

because I don't know what kind of summary I planned on doing once I got

home?

Basically the con was amazing.

I cosplayed, met up with friends, got autographs from seiyuu(voice actors) I really liked

and I bought some cool stuff... so yeah I'll be sure to include on the video in

the editing process.

and I have to also say I know my hair looks mad dingus.

This is the characters bangs, this is how they look

I might restyle them sometime.

because I - whoa - yeah because this is this

is something... this is... this is a look

maybe it's the look I deserve for uhh..

I don't know

but I hope you guys enjoyed I hope you guys get what I mean

basically

I just hope you enjoyed the video maybe you can relate to my crazy otaku

shenanigans because I don't know why else you would watch this video

but if

you do like these videos please like, comment, subscribe... you know how that

stuff goes...

Thank you guys so much for watching. I'll see you guys next time, bye!

Con day 3, and Anime North is...

OVER!
