Hello Youtube. This week, I show you how you can build a floor filter system based on a Czech airlift. I want to demonstrate this at this 54 liter basin. If you are interested in the principle and the construction of a Czech jet lift click on the INFOBOX at the top right corner.
I use a PVC pipe with 25 mm diameter and two 90 degree connectors. I saw the first tube at a length of just under 50 cm and drill 22 holes with a 5mm drill in a row. All drill holes are later deburred with abrasive paper.
On the opposite side I drill another 22 holes. The second tube, also 25 mm in diameter, is sawn to approximately 10 cm in length and connected to the two 90-degree angles. In the background you can already see the pressure chamber, a 35 mm tube about 5 cm long and drilled with a drill hole 5 mm.
About three inches from the lower edge of the second tube I drill two rows with a 1mm drill each 30 holes per row. I have also deburred all holes with abrasive paper and re-drilled, the 60 holes have a diameter of 1 - 1.4 mm.
About the 2 drill rows I adhere the mentioned pressure chamber, here with aquarium silicone, in previous projects I have already used Tangit to glue. In the borehole of the pressure chamber I later stick the standard 4/6 aquarium hose.
Then I have two suction cups with cable ties prepared to attach the air lifter later stylishly to the side disc.
As a spout I cut off a third 25mm tube on 5 cm and bevelled at 45 degrees angle. Here at the upper angle to recognize. The suction cups with cable ties fixed at the two 90 degree angles. The pressure chamber with glued-in hose inside the 60 drill holes.
And here the intake pipe with the 5mm holes. The cat, by the way, was described by me in the last video as a cat and would like to be called again in the future Mr. Kater. The kater has checked everything here again and would now like to be fed again.
The suction tube and the lower angle I now glue with aquarium silicone in the middle of the basin. Allow the silicone to dry.
Now the air lift can be installed ...
ready for the first test run ... in this case with a bucket and normal tap water.
As pump I use a eheim 400. This pump has advantages and disadvantages, because of the low volume but here my first choice.
As you can see, the under gravel filter works perfectly, here you can see the typical little bubbles of a Czech airlift. If you want to know how a Czech airlift works and is built, check the Infobox.
Right behind the Jet lift you can see little bubbles rising, the air lift was still leaking, it was very important for me to be able to easily remove the Jetlift in such a case. This works very well even one-handed as you see here, the air lift I have glued again and now everything is 100% dense.
How I set up the aquarium, you see in one of my next videos so stay tuned. What I would like to show you is the zeolite, with a grain size of 6 - 10 mm, it protects the gravel from being sucked in, it also filters pollutants from the water.
