Two bodies were found in Lumberton and police are investigating.

One of the bodies was found in an abandoned home on Peach-tree Street.

Neighbors claim the house is used by drug-users and prostitutes.

The other body was found in a trash can on nearby East Fifth Street.

The State Bureau of Investigation, Lumberton Police, and District Attorney's Office are

investigating the scene.

Police told The Robe-e-sonian newspaper the scene was horrific, but haven't released details

on the conditions of the bodies or their identities.

A bomb-threat disrupted operations at a dessert factory and surrounding buildings Tuesday

in Pembroke.

Pembroke Police Department responded to a call at three-thirty p-m.

The caller said a bomb had been planted at Steven Roberts Original Desserts in Pembroke.

Over one-hundred employees and a nearby doctor's office were evacuated.

The plant is right next to Pembroke Elementary School, which is not in session this week.

Bomb-sniffing dogs were called in to sweep the building.

According to the Robesonian newspaper, employees have been threatened with termination if they

talk to the media about the incident.

A fire in East Laurinburg.

. . Monday night . . . was still burning on Wednesday.

Nearly 50 firefighters from Laurinburg, Waygrem, and Stewartsville worked until early hours

on Tuesday morning to extinguish the fire.

It started at the old Waverly Mill plant and spread to a nearby house.

Both the plant and the house are completely demolished.

On Wednesday, some building material was still on fire.

Neighbors believe the fire was deliberately set by teenagers seen in the area.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause.

The Lumbee Regional Development Association asked county commissioners to provide money

to help offset security costs at the annual Lumbee Homecoming celebration.

They're seeking at least 10-thousand-dollars to help with the event that draws tens of

thousands of people to Pembroke.

The request was made at the Robeson County Board of Commissioners meeting, Monday.

Organizers say Homeland Security requirements for large public gatherings have increased,

leading to the higher price tag this year.

Habitat for Humanity in Laurinburg is gearing up for their annual bike-race fundraiser called

"Bike to Build."

The organization builds homes for homeless families, and the annual race can bring in

nearly 20-thousand dollars.

This year they've added a 10-K walk-or-run to increase community participation.

Their former Executive Director says the bike race is competitive, but the event really

has something for everybody.

We have lots of people that come with strollers that will run, jog with their children.

We have lots of folks that come out with their bikes and have the baby seats on the back.

So it's not just for the serious at heart although there are a lot of serious competitive

folks that will be there.

Um, it's for everybody.

U-N-C-P hosted 2-hundred-fifty young athletes recently for the annual Special Olympics.

The collaboration was organized by the Robbeson County Parks and Recreation department and

Public Schools of Robbeson County.

U-N-C-P turned out 1-hundred-sixty student volunteers.

Children represented their schools and participated in a variety of athletic feats...with winners

taking home medals for their efforts.

The Office for Community and Civic Engagement held their own version of the "Hunger Games"

this week...to collect donations for the campus food pantry.

The rain held off on the Quad Wednesday, where teams brought canned goods and other non-perishables---so

they could earn advantages in the physical competitions.

The office hopes to raise awareness of food insecurity locally and among college students.

The winning "district" was Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity.

Second place went to a team representing Mass Comm and the International Programs office.

Coastal Carolina University cheerleaders have been suspended --- pending an investigation.

According to The Chronicle Of Higher Education, the cheerleaders are accused of being involved

in escort services; being paid up to fifteen-hundred dollars per date.

Investigators don't believe sex was involved.

A parent allegedly sent a letter to the University, accusing the squad of hazing.

A lawyer representing some of the cheerleaders says the University's response is unfair,

compared to how the male teams have been treated in the past.

The cheerleaders allegedly were using a website called Seeking-Arrangement, which calls itself

quote "the leading Sugar Daddy dating site."

U-N-C-P baseball earns its longest winning streak,,,

and a former Braves track star "represents" in the Boston Marathon.

Pembroke softball wrapped up their season last Friday in a doubleheader split against

Montevallo.

The Braves ended the season with twenty-six or more wins for the third-straight season

under head coach Bennett.

In Game One, the Falcons used a 2-run single to edge past the Braves, four to one.

But in Game Two, the Black and Gold pounded out fourteen hits and scored eleven times

to win in a mercy rule, eleven to two.

Still, the Braves missed conference play, coming in twelfth overall.

In baseball, Barton held a one-point lead over Pembroke in the fifth Tuesday, but the

twenty-seventh ranked Braves scored three runs in the seventh to secure the win.

The score was tied three-all to start the fourth inning... but the Black and Gold edged

past the Bulldogs, winning six to four.

With the victory, the Braves recorded their longest winning streak of ten games.

They'll close out the home portion of their 2-thousand-seventeen regular season when they

play rival Coker in a doubleheader.

This week, softball's Alex Watkins and baseball's Nick Debo were both named Braves of The Week

for their performances on the diamond last week.

Freshman Watkins racked up three multiple-hit games with six runs, two doubles, and a home

run.

Senior Debo got a hit in all four games... while adding three home runs to his season

total of eleven.

The golf team competed in the Peach Belt Championships this past weekend, where four Braves earned

Top 25 finishes.

Ashlii Thompson didn't look too hot in the first two rounds but pulled out a season-best

sixty-nine, which was three under par.

She pushed the Black and Gold into third place.

The Braves carded a 3-hundred and nine in the final round and were forty-two shots behind

the leader.

While the Braves' campaign comes to an end, Thompson will await the May first "South Super

Region" announcement... for her possible third regional appearance.

The eleventh annual Black and Gold Spring Game was held last week, marking the final

on-field action for Braves football until August.

Pembroke's defense controlled the tempo for most of the game to win big over the offense.

Code Black forced a handful of turnovers and blocked kicks to fuel an amazing score of

one-hundred-27 to fifty-one.

The offense scored three times in the red zone and took up most of the fourth quarter.

Coach Richardson credited upperclassmen with the win.

I was, uh, extremely proud and excited of, of what the defense did out there today.

Uh, lot of guys really took the initiative to make this a serious game opportunity and

we've got some older guys on defense that knows what it should look like and I saw them

stepping up in those roles, uh, leading the charge on that.

Had a lot of enthusiasm and intensity and it was really, really fun to see the defense

perform like they did.

Season tickets for the 2-thousand-seventeen season are on sale now.

Tickets can be purchased for one-hundred dollars, for four games, at the G-PAC box office.

The Braves will open the season on August thirty-first when they play Winston-Salem

State University at home.

In track and field, newcomers Jonathan Kistner and Wayne Robertson registered a pair of top-five

finishes - to pace the teams at the Phoenix Invitational.

Kistner logged in a personal best mark in three events - including the discus - with

a toss of a little over forty-three meters.

Robertson also came in first, in the one-hundred meter dash, with a personal best time of eleven-point-ten.

On the women's side, Mikayla King earned a top-five finish in the one-hundred and two-hundred

meter dashes.

The Braves will travel to Montevallo on April twentieth to twenty-second to compete in the

P-B-C Championships.

The annual Boston Marathon was held earlier this week... and Pembroke's former all-American

cross-country and track-and-field star Pardon Loh-voo made his first appearance up there

in Beantown.

Loh-voo finished nineteenth in the Marathon with a time of about two and a half hours.

The former U-N-C-P runner used his Rio Olympics event to qualify for the race.

The course covers twenty-six miles and 3-hundred-85 yards, including eight cities in Massachusetts.

The U-N-C Pembroke's athletic department will be hosting its fifth annual Braves Club Cash

Bash on Thursday April twentieth - presented by Southeastern Health, at the Jones Center.

The event will include a night of stories with A-C-C legends, as well as a catered dinner

and silent auction.

Proceeds from the event support all sixteen varsity athletics programs and more than 4-hundred

student athletes.

Tickets were going for one-hundred-25 dollars, with volume discounts available.
