Waching daily Apr 26 2017

So,... North Korea's key military anniversary came and went with no large-scale provocation

to speak of.

But with South Korea and the U.S. still holding their annual joint military drills until the

end of the month,... experts suggest early May is when tensions could hit their peak.

Kim Hyo-sun has more.

Celebrating the birthday of its founder,... North Korea unveiled what appeared to be a

new intercontinental ballistic missile at its "Day of the Sun" military parade on April

15th.

Although the missile has never been tested,.. the North has hinted that it could target

the continental United States.

"We will respond to all-out war with all-out war... and to nuclear war with our style of

nuclear warfare."

At the same time,... North Korea intentionally exposed signs of a possible nuclear test at

its Punggye-ri test site in the northeast of the country,... while directly threatening

that it can press the button at anytime.

While there were no nuclear or missile provocations on the North's key military anniversary on

Tuesday,... the international community cannot let its guard down.

"We will conduct a nuclear test at a time and location of our leader's choosing."

Watchers see the end of April when the USS Carl Vinson carrier strike group leaves the

region and when the joint military drills between Seoul and Washington end as the mostly

likely time for North Korea to conduct another provocation.

Some also say early May,... when there are no joint military drills,... could see tensions

hit their peak on the Korean Peninsula.

"It's highly likely North Korea will test the first propellant stage of an ICBM engine

or test mid-range or long-range missiles with new solid-fuel engines."

However,... given how unpredictable North Korea is,... it remains to be seen how Pyongyang

will act... especially given China's cooling ties with the regime... and the close coordination

between Washington and Beijing.

"In That Moment, I Realized That She Got It." A Mother Learns To Empathize With Gay Son. - Duration: 6:53.

I'm Bryan Blaise from Leesburg, Florida.

Back when I was 22, I went home for the holidays.

At that time, I had started dating someone here in Chicago and decided I was going to

tell my parents.

So we sat down for dinner and I ate a full plate and I sort of was trying to build up

the courage to have this conversation.

And I look up so her mother looked at me and she's like, "Yes?"

And so, I started telling them that I had started to see someone and that he was really

great.

My dad did exactly what I thought.

He put his plate, or forks and knives down, took a deep breath, and said, "Okay, how

do you justify this by the scriptures?" which I was pretty prepared for.

But before I could open my mouth and say anything, my mother just gay-gasped in the moment and

sat there with her mouth open for what seemed like five minutes, but was probably only 30

seconds, and then ran out of the room.

A minute later, she comes back holding basically every Bible that we owned at the time and

laid them down and started opening them up to the famous "cobbler passages" and

other scriptures and verses that she felt needed to be said at the moment.

As I was talking to my dad, trying to help him understand how I'd come to realize this

important fact about myself, my mom was actually quoting the different Bible verses.

My patience snapped and I turned to my mother and I said, "Well, as you're sitting there

pulling out all those verses that you know so well, why don't you turn to the verses

that say that as the first-born, all of this is mine, and as the man I have total authority

and respect and, as a woman, you are property according to the Bible, and should not be

talking to me with such disrespect right now."

Needless to say, she wasn't very happy about that comment but that was my first experience

sort of coming out to my parents and how my relationship with my mom started out with

me as a gay man and how that was going to progress from there.

Six years later, in 2013, I was headed to my cousin's wedding in Columbus, Mississippi,

where the entire family, extended family, were staying at a hotel.

So one morning at breakfast, we're all sitting around a table and I pulled out my phone to

show my grandparents pictures of my recent trip to London and Paris.

And my grandfather, who is very man's man, men do men things, and definitely a good southern

Confederate, proceeded to start to belittle the pictures, start to belittle my current

enrollment at Columbia Business School.

And naming it, both institutions and the places I visit as liberal and effeminate and secular.

And I proceeded to try and be really calm, but still a little distant and ask questions.

Ultimately, people started joining in the conversation.

Cousins.

Aunts.

Uncles.

Everyone sort of bearing down on me.

And the experience of looking at your family, people that shared your history and your blood,

and they're all facing you with very critical questions and demoralizing comments.

I kind of silently worked my way through it and then walked outside, just to kind of separate

myself from them.

Quickly, I felt this touch on my shoulder and my mom had come out.

She had some tears in her eyes and she looked at me and said, "I'm gonna sit on this

bench and I'm not getting up until I understand.

I know what I'm gonna say is gonna be wrong, and I know that I'm gonna ask questions that

are probably inappropriate.

But I'm doing it because I really want to understand."

So we sat there as family members tried to come out and get my mom's attention and she

waved them away.

It was a couple hours of lots of crying, talking some, trying to find the courage to be vulnerable

in that moment with someone who for so long, probably unintentionally, had said or done

things that were harmful or that left me sort of questioning my worth as a gay man.

But it was the start of a wonderful relationship that's continuing to today.

So a few weeks ago, I was home and my mother shared with me that she'd recently had a health

scare, and had spent a week or two with this knowledge only with herself.

As she had to sit there and process through and sort of feel the feelings of feeling alone

and the struggle of just wanting to tell someone and wanting to be able to process it with

them, she realized that that was probably some of the feelings and emotions that I experienced

growing up.

She turned to me and reminded me that, shared with me that she now had a greater understanding

for what it was probably like growing up, and how tough that experience is and how brave

queer individuals are as they go through that growing up without an accepting home where

they feel comfortable and safe enough to talk about and declare who they really are.

In that moment, I realized she got it.

And I was thankful for the years of being patient, the years of myself learning how

to not push people away either through avoidance or sarcasm or anger, but much more a sense

of openness and knowing that she's on a journey that maybe where she's at was where

I was at a decade ago, and that while I'd like them to be PFLAG chapter presidents and

to be in all the pride parades and at showtunes at Sidetrack, that that day will come if I'm

patient, and that the love's there, the empathy's there and it's growing - both

within her and within me.

Glenn Beck: Sexual Harassment Is "Male Disease" - Duration: 7:20.

GLENN BECK RECENTLY OPENED UP ABOUT WHAT HE PERSONALLY

EXPERIENCED AT FOX NEWS, AND HIS THOUGHTS ON THE SEXUAL

HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS THAT HAVE DESTROYED THE CAREERS OF

ROGER AILES AND BILL O'REILLY.

HE COMES AT IT FROM AN INTERESTING PERSPECTIVE.

HE IMMEDIATELY MAKES IT AN IDEOLOGICAL WAR, WHEN IN REALITY

NO ONE EVEN BROUGHT UP, HEY CONSERVATIVE GUYS ARE WORSE THAN

LIBERAL GUYS WHEN IT COMES TO SEXUAL HARASSMENT, BUT HE

MADE ABOUT THAT.

HE SAYS, "I DON'T KNOW IF THIS HAS EVER HAPPENED AT CNN,

OR MSNBC OR THE NEW YORK TIMES.

WOULDN'T IT BE INTERESTING TO SEE, BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A

CONSERVATIVE DISEASE, IT'S NOT A FOX DISEASE, IT'S A MALE

DISEASE."

NOW THAT HE'S OPENED THE DOOR TO THE CONVERSATION, LET'S

WALK ON IT.

I WOULD LARGELY DISAGREE WITH THAT STATEMENT, AND I'LL

EXPLAIN WHY.

NOW, IS IT THAT ALL MALES HAVE DIFFERENT IDEOLOGIES ñ

WAS THERE SEXUAL HARASSMENT?

OF COURSE, A GUY NAMED BILL CLINTON.

LET ALONE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF OTHER EXAMPLES.

SO OF COURSE WE UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S NOT JUST CONSERVATIVES

THAT DO IT.

WE ARE WAY MORE OPEN-MINDED THAN THOSE GUYS ARE WHEN THEY BLAME

LIBERAL VALUES ON SONY DIFFERENT INSANE THINGS AND PROBLEMS IN

THE COUNTRY, BUT WAS IT A FOX DISEASE?

WELL IT ACTUALLY WAS, BECAUSE THE LEADER OF FOX NEWS WAS ROGER

AILES, AND SINCE HE HAD BEEN DOING SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF

HARLEY FOR DECADES, ACCORDING TO THE ALLEGATIONS, ALLEGATIONS

THAT WERE GOOD ENOUGH SO THAT HE GOT FIRED, HE PROTECTED THE

PEOPLE THAT WERE DOING SEXUAL HARASSMENT AT FOX NEWS, AND THEY

PAID OUT SETTLEMENTS, AND IT BECAME SYSTEMIC BECAUSE OF

THE LEADER AT THAT ORGANIZATION.

SO IT WAS SPECIFICALLY A FOX DISEASE IN THIS CASE.

IN TERMS OF WHETHER CONSERVATIVES DO IT MORE,

WELL THEY DO FOSTER AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY SAY

IT'S NOT AS BIG A DEAL.

NOW, PROGRESSIVES THINK IT'S A GIANT DEAL.

THAT IT'S SOMETHING YOU SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR, AND SOMETHING WE

SHOULD BE COGNIZANT OF, ETC., BUT HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE HEARD

ON FOX NEWS, INCLUDING FROM FEMALE HOSTS ON FOX NEWS, THEY

ARE OVERPLAYING IT, IT'S A WAR ON MEN, ETC.?

SO, YEAH, CONSERVATIVES DO HAVE A BOYS WILL BE BOYS

ATTITUDE, WHICH IS A THROWBACK HIM UP BECAUSE THEY ARE

CONSERVATIVES, AND IN THE OLD DAYS THERE WAS MUCH MORE

RAPID SEXUAL HARASSMENT.

I HAVE SOME EVIDENCE TO BACK UP YOUR CLAIM.

WE'VE BEEN IN THIS GAME FOR A LONG TIME, I'VE BEEN HERE FOR

10 YEARS, WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE GLENN

BECK FOR A LONG TIME.

I REMEMBER SEGMENTS WHERE HE HAS MINIMIZED ALLEGATIONS OF SEXUAL

ASSAULT, OR RAPE.

WHERE HE HAS SIGNED OFF ON RIDICULOUS SKITS THAT MAKE ñ

THAT MAKE FUN OF WOMEN THAT HAVE BEEN RAPED ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES,

AND I HAVE AN EXAMPLE THAT I WANT TO SHOW YOU OF THAT IN

A MINUTE.

SO HE GOES ON FOR YEARS AND YEARS ABOUT HOW WOMEN LIVE,

SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND SEXUAL ASSAULT ISN'T REALLY A

THING, THEY ARE LOOKING TO CASH OUT, IT'S A WITCH HUNT,

WHEN NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN IT'S A MALE DISEASE.

IT'S NOT A CONSERVATIVE DISEASE OR A LIBERAL DISEASE ñ WHICH, BY

THE WAY, I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF I WANT TO SAY IT'S A MALE DISEASE.

GUYS DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT SEXUAL HARASSMENT IS, OR THEY DO

AND BECAUSE THEY THINK ñ BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOME POWER, THEY

THINK THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT.

THAT'S WHAT FOX NEWS DID.

IN TERMS OF CONSERVATIVES THOUGH, THESE ARE THE TYPES

OF REACTIONS THEY HAVE TO RAPE ALLEGATIONS.

THIS WAS ON THE BLAZE, DURING A SEGMENT THAT GLENN BECK

SIGNED OFF ON.

THERE WAS A SURVEY DONE THAT BASICALLY FOUND THAT A LOT OF

WOMEN ARE EITHER VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, RAPE, OR SEXUAL

COERCION, WHICH IS NOT THE SAME AS RAPE.

LOOK AT THE WAY THEY HANDLED THAT STUDY IN THIS SKIT.

THEY DECIDED TO MAKE FUN OF WOMEN, AND I'LL LET YOU WATCH.

TAKE A LOOK.

YOU SHOULD HAVE SEX WITH ME.

I'M GOING TO BE ON THE COVER OF THE ABERCROMBIE AND FITCH

CATALOG THIS MONTH.

OKAY.

WHOA WHOA WHOA, STOP.

THAT'S RAPE.

PRESSURING SOMEONE TO HAVE SEX WITH YOU BY TELLING THEM LIES IS

THE SAME AS RAPE.

YOU SHOULD HAVE SEX WITH ME, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU AND I

WILL NEVER LOOK AT ANOTHER, EVER.

OKAY.

WHOA WHOA WHOA, HOLD ON, THAT'S RAPE.

MAKING PROMISES ABOUT THE FUTURE THAT YOU KNOW ARE UNTRUE TO GET

SEX ARE THE SAME AS RAPE.

YOU SHOULD HAVE SEX WITH ME OR I WILL BREAK UP WITH YOU.

OKAY.

WHOA, STOP STOP STOP.

THAT'S RAPE.

THREATENING TO END YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO GET SEX IS THE

SAME AS RAPE.

YOU SHOULD HAVE SEX WITH ME OR I'LL TELL EVERYONE YOU HAD SEX

WITH ME.

OKAY.

STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP, THAT'S RAPE.

THREATENING TO SPREAD RUMORS TO HAVE SEX IS THE SAME HAS RAPE.

WILL YOU HAVE SEX WITH ME?

HOW ABOUT NOW?

GUESS WHAT?

THAT'S RAPE!

SO THEY CAN CLEARLY MISCONSTRUE WHAT THE SURVEY SAID, AND THE

PEOPLE BEHIND THIS RESEARCH NEVER SAID THAT THOSE THINGS ARE

RAPE.

NEVER ONCE SAID THOSE THINGS ARE RAPE.

THEY DID REFER TO THOSE THINGS AS SEXUAL COERCION.

SO IF YOU GO TO SOMEONE AND SAY I'M GOING TO RELEASE THESE

PICTURES UNLESS YOU HAVE SEX WITH ME AGAIN, THAT'S COERCION.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE SEX WITH ME OR ELSE I'M GLAD TO LET EVERYONE

KNOW YOU'VE BEEN SLEEPING WITH ME, THAT'S COERCION.

THEY DON'T GET THAT, OR THEY DO GET IT, BUT THEY JUST WANT TO

SAY DEFAMATORY THINGS ABOUT THE RESEARCH THAT'S BEEN DONE,

AND TO MAKE IT SEEM AS THOUGH WOMEN ARE JUST A JOKE.

SO, GLENN BECK, YOU ARE PART OF THE MALE DISEASE.

IS MORE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT YOU HARBOR AND SUPPORT.

YOU ARE PRAYING THE LEAD THERE, THAT'S THE WORST SKID I'VE

EVER SEEN.

I LOVE HOW FUNNY THEY THINK THEY ARE.

AND THEN I'LL JUMP IN WITH A BIG RAPE SIGN, THIS IS SO GOOD, AND

THEN YOU'LL DRESS UP LIKE A GIRL BECAUSE YOU KIND OF WANT TO,

EVEN THOUGH WE TALKED AGAINST PEOPLE LIKE THAT ALL THE TIME.

AND THAT'S THEIR VERSION OF A GIRL.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN?

WHY DO YOU THINK WE ARE SEXIST?

WE THINK WOMEN DO THIS.

OKAY.

AND AS ANA POINTED OUT, THEY COMPLETELY LIED ABOUT WHAT THE

STUDY SAID.

WITH YOU CONSIDER IT SEXUAL COERCION IS A DEBATE WE'VE HAD

ON THE YOUNG TURKS, BUT YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO BE HONEST

ABOUT WHAT THE STUDY SAYS.

AND WHY DID THEY DO THAT?

THEY DO THAT BECAUSE THEY WANT TO MINIMIZE RAPE.

THAT'S THE POINT.

as she attended a G20 women's summit in Berlin.

The First Daughter took part in a panel discussion on female entrepreneurs and was accompanied

by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and IMF chief Christine Lagarde, among others.

Groans could be heard as she described her father as a tremendous champion of supporting

families.

Great News - There's No Trip Like a Guilt Trip (Episode Highlight) - Duration: 2:47.

- Where's my snack?

- Oh, God.

- I'm supposed to have my snack at 2:30!

- Katie. Stamps.

Who's yelling like that? Sounds like the Pathmark by me

that's all Hispanic now.

- It's Chuck, about his snack.

- What?

You told me he got his snack at 3:00.

- I'm so mad I could spit bullets!

- I--did I? I--

- All right, who screwed this up?

Who's the intern?

- Uh-- Mr. Pierce, I can explain.

- Are you the intern? - No, Katie Wendelson.

Segment Producer? I held your hand

while you passed your kidney stones?

- It's okay, dear. Hi.

- Hi. - I'm Carol.

- Hi. - I'm the intern.

- But you're, uh--

Carol, we have a schedule.

- I know. - And when people disrespect

that schedule, they disrespect me.

- Oh, I'm sorry. - Well, Carol,

I've been in this business for 30 years,

and I will not be disrespected!

I was on the ground in Kosovo! I shot a flaming arrow

at Mike Wallace's Viking funeral!

And another thing--

- Jeez Louise, calm down!

You're a graying old man,

you're throwing a tantrum about a snack.

The world's not gonna end if you don't get

your little pizza bagel, which you don't need by the way.

You hold your weight in your belly, and that is

heart attack city according to "Good Housekeeping."

Okay? I mean, you're not like that, um--

Oh, gosh, who was that actor who died?

You know, mob show? Come on, think.

- Uh, Marlon Brando?

- No, no, no, he was in that movie I like

with Old Christine. Come on, you know it!

- James Gandolfini.

- Yes. - James Gandolfini.

- Yes. Yes. - It's James Gandolfini.

- You're not like him, Chuck, but you could be.

Take care of yourself and stop getting so mad!

Okay, go to your office.

- Oh, all right. Okay.

- That's right. I'll make you a bowl of popcorn, okay?

- Okay. - Go, go.

- Did I tell you the wrong time?

- Nice try, Pumpkin.

I can always tell when you're lying.

- That was amazing.

You got Chuck to do what you wanted.

Can I...kiss you?

- I don't think I can do this internship.

- Wait. Mom, come on.

- No, really, I've been running around all day long,

and I am exhausted.

You're right, Pumpkin, I'm too old for this.

Goodbye, everyone!

Thank you for the opportunity.

Kathryn.

Japanese minister to resign over Fukushima comments - Duration: 1:13.

Japan's reconstruction minister is to step down after making some highly insensitive

comments.

He was recorded saying it was better the northeast of the country was hit by the 2011 earthquake

and nuclear disaster rather than Tokyo.

With more on this and other news from around the world....we turn to Ro Aram...

Aram... it's hard to understand how he could say something so... ludicrous....

Well Mark... on Tuesday, Japanese broadcaster NHK aired a video of Masahiro Imamura saying

during a Liberal Democratic Party gathering, that it was a good thing that the Magnitude

9.0 earthquake, which killed more than 18-and-a-half thousand people, hit the Tohoku region rather

than capital area.

Imamura, who oversees Tohoku's reconstruction, added that if the quake hit closer to Tokyo,

it would have caused huge financial damage.

He later retracted the remarks and apologized.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was at the same gathering, also apologized for Imamura's

comments.

The minister is expected to tender his resignation later today.
