Bead Subscription Dollar Bead Box Review-Friday Findings - Duration: 8:18.

Welcome to another Friday Findings video at KeepsakeCrafts.net.

Today I have for you an interesting finding and that is a fun subscription service called

Dollar Bead Box.

So the folks at Dollar Bead Box contacted me and asked if I would be willing to take

a look at one of their bead boxes and their bead bags and review it and tell you what

I thought.

So, yes, I did get these supplies for free, but all of the opinions are mine and I'm going

to give you my honest opinion.

Stick around until the end of the video because I'll be telling you how three of my YouTube

channel subscribers can win their own bead box.

So the first thing I wanted to show you is the bead bag.

The Dollar Bead Bag is a subscription that is a fun and easy way to build a collection

of Czech Fire Polish beads.

Every month you'll receive four strands of 3mm beads and four strands of 4mm beads and

it's $8 a month.

So it's just a dollar per strand.

If you find that there are some beads that you particularly like, you can reorder them

during that month for just a dollar a strand.

Now I went and looked these up online and they definitely cost more than a dollar a

strand.

Anyway, I found $1.50 to $3 a strand depending on the type of bead and the finish.

That's a pretty good deal.

So this is the May 2017 bead bag.

As advertised there's four strands of 3mm beads and four strands of 4mm beads.

They tell you what they are.

So like here's maroon, the matte antique-crystal AB, smokey quartz AB, chrysolite AB.

AB simply means aurora borealis which is the kind of sparkly rainbow effect.

And then we have light sapphire, red satin, burgundy and tanzanite.

Isn't that pretty.

The matte beads.

So if you use 3 or 4mm fire polished beads in your bead work, this is a nice subscription

to get because you get to try out different beads, different colors and it's all at a

really good price.

So it's a fun package to receive in the mail every month.

And if you just want to try it out for one month, you can just purchase it for $10 and

you can still do the reorders of $1 each.

Then there's the dollar bead box and that's also a subscription service separate from

the dollar bead bag and they start at $19.50 a month and you're guaranteed at least $60

value in your box.

And what's fun about this is that you just get a really great variety of things.

So this is just a note and then there's a list of all the items in the box.

So here's some crystal beads, some glass beads, here's a Swarovski flat back crystal, some

bead stringing wire, silk ribbon.

One thing I love about getting a variety of beads like this is that I often find myself

appreciating things I might have overlooked.

For example, when I first opened this box, I looked at these and said 'eww'.

Really I'm not a big fan of orange and what are those?

But I took another look and realized that they're petals and that actually if you bead

them together, you could make a really pretty flower with some other beads and put them

together in a circle.

Just the way they're strung.

So often I would have just totally passed by that and not even given it a second glance.

But now I can picture something really nice with that.

So let's see.

Here's some 8mm Czech fire polished in hex cut in blue opal.

That's really nice.

And these are Czech glass mushrooms.

I love the way they nest together.

The petals.

This is medium siam, also Czech glass and then the stars.

These are rose gold luster, also 12mm Czech glass.

This is a Swarovski graphic flat back cut crystal in red magna.

I love that color!

Some antique silver bead caps, 24mm bird pendants.

Oh those are cute!

Silver plated.

Natural crystal points.

Oh, I can see a dragon holding these.

Some hand dyed Chinese silk cord.

This is very popular in bead work today.

Hand painted Chinese porcelain beads, 9x12mm, 12mm Czech glass waterfall cut.

Oh look at that!

I gotta open this so you can see these.

Oh, that's an interesting cut!

See it goes, I don't know how well you can see it, but it kind of spirals around the

piece and it's got these little ridges.

I can see why they call it waterfall.

See, if I saw these in a store I might not give them a second glance, but then once I

have them in my hand and I'm considering doing something with them, then I can appreciate

them far more.

This is seven strand bead stringing wire, which I don't love.

It's kind of the least expensive and tends to be stiff.

Instead of the 19 strand or 49 strand, which is just much more drapey, but I'm sure I can

find uses for this.

And this is fun.

This is a 10x16mm hand cut Chinese flower and it's a bead.

I don't know if you can see.

The hole goes through.

Yellow jade.

Again, this is one of those things that if I saw in a store, I'd look at it, say 'eh'

and walk by.

But now that I have it in my hand and I own one, I can kind of appreciate it more and

suddenly the mind starts going to different things I can do with it.

Oh aren't those cute?

Those little Czech glass hearts in pink opal and some 3x5mm Preciouso crystals.

So this is kind of a fun service to try different beads.

You want to get a good deal and you just want to see a variety of different things out there

and what's fantastic is if there's any one of these things, for example, if I decided

I'm Victoria from BAM POW LIFE and I am fat.

I have been fat from as young as I can remember

and also from as young as I can remember I have known that being fat is bad.

It's the worst thing that you can be.

Worse than being a kitten killer.

Worse than being a bad tipper. Worse than your racist grandmother .

But am I alone in the idea of how that is perceived?

We're here on the streets of Vancouver today to ask people what they think of fat.

What is your least desired body type?

Uhh fat.

Fat, I'm guessing.

Uhh fat.

Obviously fat.

Fat.

Hmm...

Fat probably.

It's proven that it's bad on the body sometimes, like the knees or the joints.

But a little bit of fat it's okay, but not overweight.

Just in general what it does to your body like how all the things that go along with it

like disease and stress levels and fitness that sort of thing as well.

Surely being fat is not the worst thing in the world?

Be fat or work with your arch enemy for the rest of your career?

I'd rather work with my arch enemy.

Be fat or be public be publicly humiliated?

I'm fine being public humiliated.

But some people said it was okay to be fat! YAS.

It's not a matter of your of your body type and

it's a matter of eating properly.

It doesn't mean if you're a fat person

you're not a smart person.

Certain countries in the world you know people

think fat is very beautiful they're attracted to it.

You can be bigger, or lets say more solid and still be very and still be very healthy.

So some people think that it's

okay to be fat, but only if that fat person is healthy.

The thing is even if you have a fat body and it's unhealthy

you are still worthy as a human being

and remember you cannot tell anything

about someone's health status simply by

looking at their body.

Have you ever been on a diet?

I have, I give a french fries for a while.

And cheesecake! Haha.

Have you ever been on a diet yourself?

Yes, quite a few recently but the

problem is when you're finished you sort

of have to maintain a certain level to

maintain your weight.

It's not so hard personally losing the weight, what's hard is keeping it off.

We live in a society

where fat is demonized and the 64

billion dollar diet industry is so massive

because it has repeat customers for life.

Simply put diets don't work.

So what if instead we focus on the

capacity of people's hearts versus the

number on the scale.

So do you think that people should love their bodies?

Absolutely! Regardless. Yes. Absolutely.

You to really develop that self-love, right, and if you

develop that self-love then you can give

it to other people.

Like, as long as I'm fat and healthy and I'm fine. Fat and happy.

Fat, healthy and happy, I'll chose that one.

Let's stop being so damn scared of fat

because I think it's kind of fabulous!

How To Survive Summer Cookouts During Weight Loss - Duration: 3:23.

Hey everybody and welcome to the video.

This is Josh here and today we're going to be going over 3 tips to stay on track during

your summer cookouts.

Alright, so everybody in America, Memorial Day is coming up this Monday.

One of the toughest things to do while you're trying to stay on track with your diet is

go to all of these summer BBQ's and cookouts.

These are my best tips that I always use to stay on track.

Alright, so Tip #1 is control your portions.

Particularly, the sides.

You'll usually have a lot more sides to choose from compared to a normal meal.

Usually a regular dinner you might have 2 or 3 options, this you're going to have 5,

6, 7 different options.

So instead of missing out on the coleslaw, or potato salad, or whatever sides that you

like, focus on getting smaller amounts of them.

You know, your eyes are always going to be bigger than your stomach and if you put that

food on your plate your way more likely to finish your one plate versus getting up to

get a second plate with more.

So stick to the smaller portions, but have all of the sides that you want to have.

Alright, next step, avoid the snacks at the party.

At any BBQ or cookout I've always been to, you have chips and salsa, you have potato

chips, you have guacamole, you have all sorts of things like that.

All of those extra little snack calories add up so quickly.

By the end of the night you're practically having double the amount of calories, half

coming from the meal and half coming from the snacks.

So if you are going to snack, stick to the vegetables, but just skip out on all the chips

and all the cheese and all the random junk that's around.

The next thing I like to try and do, skip the breakfast before the party.

It's usually going to be "dinner", but usually cookouts and BBQ's you're going to be eating

at 2 or 3 o clock.

Try and just skip your breakfast or go for a really light breakfast that day.

Save your calories for later, it'll give you a lot more to work with and you'll be a lot

less likely to go over.

I always like to do this for any sort of holidays or parties or if I know I'm going out with

friends to a restaurant or anything like that.

Trying to save those calories for those events where you're going to have a little bit less

control on your intake just gives you a lot more flexibility.

Alright, and I have one extra bonus tip for everybody, and that is make sure you enjoy

yourself.

Holidays or family gatherings or things like that are usually a lot less frequent, for

those of you that have a lot to lose like I did, this one day isn't going to derail

your progress all too much.

You have to diet every day, but events and family gatherings and holidays are usually

pretty infrequent.

So be reasonable, be sensible, but make sure you have a good time.

Either way, you're going to be a little bit off plan.

You might as well at least be able to say you had fun while you did so.

But that is going to be it everybody, been carrying an umbrella this whole time, I'm

testing out a new camera.

I'm testing out a new camera so I have a little bit of a different setup today.

I was worried whether

they'd sing off key or make mistakes.

But they improved so much.

They all tried so hard.

It was all about their efforts

rather than our teaching.

so they practiced all night.

They had all that practice under their belts

so they nailed the rehearsal.

I think I was more nervous than they were.

They seemed reliable to me.

Where would we be without all those keys.

Numbers.

Graphical Symbols.

BASIC commands....

I for one.

Do not know.

Because like it or lump it, we've had keyboards and their descendants for a long time, and

as input devices go, they seem to do the job pretty well.

But some keyboards just do the job better than others don't they? and this was particularly

true whilst the home micro was emerging, cost cutting was paramount and frankly, where in

the absence of knowing better, we just liked it or lumped it.

I hear people these days complain about not having cherry switches on their keyboards.

I've even had comments blasting me for using a non mechanical keyboard in day-to-day use.

Well, let me just say this.

If you've grown up using a ZX Spectrum keyboard, then a polished brick feels like luxury, and

as long as I can type without breaking my fingers or hitting the wrong keys, then I

am as happy as a pig in the filthiest of sh..[static hiss].

But that being said, the keyboard was our main connection to this wonderful and fascinating

world, and for me, the look and feel of the keyboards I've used over the years, is a strong,

nostalgic memory.

From the raised keys of the spongy, yet clunky Commodore 64 to the marshmallow like bounce

found in the Atari ST and even the clackety, yet responsive half keyboard of the Amiga

600.

Placing these blissful memories aside however, it's easy to take a subjective view of how

poor some of these data entry devices really were, and many just felt like an after-thought.

So, here then, from a general usability point of view, are the worst 5 keyboards I've used

in my life.

Number 5.

The ZX Spectrum+

During 1984, a lot of things were happening with the home micro scene.

Amstrad launched their CPC, Commodore were gaining traction with their 64, and many companies

were falling by the way-side.

With this in mind, Sinclair thought it was time to revitalise their Spectrum model by

gifting it a "real" keyboard.

This was the result.

On the outset, it seems pretty nice.

Each key has a finger shaped molding, everything is laid out clearly, and there's even a reasonable

travel distance on key press.

Underneath the plastic keys, is a rubber switch mat which then depresses onto a membrane,

all held in place with a metal back plate.

It was a quick, cheap and cheerful solution for improving the existing Spectrum keyboard,

and an improvement it indeed was.

But I have a few gripes.

First is that the keys are very close together, making touch typing, a touch difficult.

Second, the keyboard itself is raised considerably off the ground, and there's no wrist support.

Given that the electronics are stored below, it's part of the parcel, but even with the

support legs extended, it makes for a very tiresome typing position.

Third; the keyboard is just so flat.

It's hard to press a key without pressing any other keys at the same time, and this

is especially true if you have fat fingers.

The keys themselves require reasonable pressure, and once this pressure is met, they give instantly,

popping back up like a character from those arcade bashing machines.

If you're using 48k BASIC, then the built in key commands do take some of the typing

chore out of proceedings, but this is a learning curve in itself, and I have only admiration

for those who used one of these models to code on in a professional sense.

Number 4.

The ZX Spectrum

This might seem like I'm picking on Sinclair, but regardless of how much I love Sinclair

machines, it's a sad reality that their keyboards, although somewhat innovative, where an upsetting

misery to use for any extended period of time.

The original Spectrum's keyboard used the same principle as the plus, just without the

plastic keys on top.

Instead we have rubber keys which make contact directly with the keyboard membrane underneath,

making for a somewhat squishy experience.

If you've ever used one of those crappy electronic musical keyboards, with the feature select

switches, then you know what I'm talking about.

Typing on a Spectrum keyboard is a bizarre experience.

You feel like you're using a data entry point for a door.

Some kind of electronic product you just tap a few buttons on and leave.

But no, if you're programming on this thing, then you're in for a distressing time.

Apart from the obvious rubber key situation, there's the issue of accessibility.

Half the keys, including the directional arrows are tucked away under other keys requiring

combinations of Caps Shift and Symbol Shift to access them, and if you want to use the

space bar, you either have to grow an extra thumb on your right hand, become amazingly

adept with your little finger, or just move your entire hand.

We know why Sinclair did it, we know Rick Dickinson's design looks beautiful in it's

construction, but flipping 'eck.

It's a pain to use.

Number 3.

The ZX80/ZX81

And so we peel back yet another layer on the Sinclair machines.

This time, the rubber layer disappears altogether.

Allowing the user to type directly onto the keyboard membrane, perhaps allowing them to

feel more at one with their digital device.....

No.

This very basic method introduces the least responsive tactile experience you're ever

likely to have with a computer.

The layout is fairly similar to the Spectrum, but at least you have something squishy to

squish with the Spectrum.

With this, it's just like pressing on a desk.

The only way you really know if you've been successful with your press is the corresponding

output on the television.

Sinclair did manage to produce a home micro for an unbelievably low price at the time,

and unfortunately this keyboard was just one sacrifice to make it possible.

Still, we didn't care at the time.

We had a frickin' Computer man!

Number 2.

The Philips Videopac G7000

Known in North America as the Magnavox Odyssey 2, or Magnavox Odyssey Squared, this is really

a console more than a computer, but it does have a keyboard and you can indeed run BASIC

on it.

So in that sense, it makes perfect sense of include it here.

Released in 1978, this machine actually arrived before the ZX80, and for the most part you

could just use the joysticks to play games, but when you did come to use the keyboard,

you damn well wished you hadn't.

We have the same tactile issues as the ZX80 and 81, but this time, the keys are less responsive,

they're narrow and they're just laid out in an unpleasing fashion.

I mean we at least have a space bar at the bottom, but you're more likely to press it

with your fingers than your thumbs.

The layout just oozes unfriendliness for normal typing and the fact that the unit is quite

high off the ground just rubs salt into those bitter wounds.

It's also indented into the case, which just makes for an uncomfortable experience, and

a well deserved 2nd place on this list.

So...

Number 1...

The Oric 1.

Released in 1983, the Oric 1 is in many ways much like the ZX Spectrum.

It's small, it's got 48K of RAM, it's got BASIC, and it has a very strange keyboard.

Now, on first glance, you might think that actually this keyboard isn't too bad.

After all, it's got realistic plastic keys, and it even has a space bar front and middle,

just like all good keyboard layouts should have.

But christ on a bicycle.

It's like someone has taken a bunch of tic-tacs, glued them to the ZX Spectrum's rubber keys

and then gone; alrighty then, job done.

It's disgusting to use.

Not only are the keys small, knobbly and hard to hit.

They feel like they're balancing on a bowl of jelly.

Now, don't get me wrong, I like the Oric-1, and I can see how they were trying to try

and get one over on the Spectrum with harder keys, more like a proper computer.

But it just doesn't work, and its by far the worst keyboard I have personally used, in

my life.

Now there are plenty of other atrotious keyboards about.

Some I haven't had the pleasure of using, but you can just tell by looking at them that

they're.... urghhhh.

I also wanted to point out that I find these keyboards part of the charm of these old computers,

and I wouldn't change them for the world.

They're part of the nostalgia, they're part of what made them cheap.

They are part of history, and for that reason, I wouldn't change them for the world.
