Have fun with the matchday magazine for the match against FC Köln. Yours, Mario.
Rhineland or Westphalia - BVB plays against 1. FC Köln.
2nd or 8th place - BVB needs a victory to keep up with the others.
Left or right - Jerry can do both. Our number 15 is Nobby's studio guest.
Hello and welcome to the matchday magazine.
Tomorrow we're playing against FC Köln. Friday, floodlights, a match full of tradition.
Everyone is looking forward to the game.
Köln is the bottom team right now,
but the number of points they gained this year is similar to ours.
We need a stable defense to prevent goals against us.
In the course of the last weeks, that has worked out pretty well,
and that's partly due to the great performance of my studio guest.
Jeremy Toljan joined the BVB team half a year ago.
A last-minute transfer in summer.
He made his debut in the Champions League.
Afterwards, he had a few adaptive difficulties.
For Peter Stöger, he's a regular player.
Whether left or right, Jeremy secures his side.
And he's always good for offensive actions.
The reward: A last-minute goal against Freiburg.
His first goal for BVB.
Keep going, Jerry!
Jerry, welcome, great you took the time to come here
to talk about past and future events.
Let's go back to last Saturday, 92nd or even 93rd minute I think.
Yes.
You kick the ball, and it's a goal. How did you feel?
Well, we were behind so I had to be more offensive and take the risk.
The cross had been saved and I think every other player had been in my way,
I have no idea how the ball got through.
No one knew that! We needed at least two slow-motion playbacks. But doesn't matter!
Yes, it was an important goal and I was happy about it.
First I wanted to celebrate it, but it was only 2:2.
But the goal was important, so I was happy.
Since Peter Stöger came here, you've always been in the starting line-up
and you found your position in the team. What do you think after being here half a year?
I think I'm improving.
I've been changing clubs for the first time,
and it takes a little to get used to all the new things in a huge club like this.
So there were some difficulties in the beginning, but now I've found my position in the team.
And you like it, right? Yes, of course!
Now it's time for the set of questions, you already know that.
It's about the first time or the first times.
Not what most of you may think of. Other things.
Your first coach taught you to…
That's a tough one. I don't know. I learned a lot from every coach I worked with.
It's difficult to associate special things to certain coaches.
But you can learn from everyone and make use of the things that are important to you.
I learned from every coach and I'm thankful for that.
Your first title as a football player? U21 European Champion.
You got your first yellow card for…? For a foul I guess. I don't remember.
So you don't argue with the referee? No, I don't. Never.
Your thoughts right before your debut as a professional player?
I was really looking forward to the match, but I've also been very nervous.
That's what it was.
Hearing the Champions League anthem on the field for the first time was…
… was giving me goosebumps.
I can imagine, it's great. Yes, it's something special.
On Friday, it's a new first time-moment,
when you're playing against FC Köln in the BVB dress for the first time.
It's a duel that has seen an incredible number of stories.
1. FC Köln versus Borussia Dortmund. The highlight match in the west.
Two clubs that have a lot in common. Especially when in comes to history.
1963 - the last final match for the German championship.
The Cup goes to the Ruhr area.
One year later - Köln wins the first title of the newly founded Bundesliga in the direct duel.
Köln versus Dortmund. Still great matches today.
Pure emotion. Tension guaranteed. Often with last-minute decisions.
Suffering. And passion.
The best in the west. That's FC Köln vs. BVB.
We've seen many thrilling duels so far, FC versus BVB or the other way round.
Of course we're striving for a victory.
Köln is the bottom team at the moment, but undefeated this year.
What do you think about FC Köln currently and what do we have to do in order to win the match?
I guess Köln will go all-in on Friday.
I think they didn't lose and even won many of the last matches,
and they have a home match now with great fans.
So I guess they'll have a lot of support from the beginning.
They always have.
Yes, right. But maybe this time it's even more.
We'll have to fight from the very beginning and try to play our system,
and of course try to win.
By the way, in the Bundesliga you never lost a match against FC Köln.
Did you know that? Yes.
Sometimes you just don't remember things like that.
Do you have a favourite opponent or teams where you get the feeling nothing can go wrong?
No, I don't think so. I guess that's coincidence then.
You've played for BVB 16 times now, 8 times on the left and 8 times on the right side.
Is there a big difference or do you mind which side you're playing on?
I don't mind anymore. In the beginning of my professional career,
I had to play on the left side but wanted to play on the right side. I didn't like that.
I had to get used to that. But doesn't matter anymore.
Of course there are some differences, because my right foot is the strong one.
Maybe on the left side it's a bit more offensive,
but then I have to do things differently in the defense. But I don't mind.
For you it's most important to be on the field, right?
Definitely. That's important.
Now it's time for "tell me". Usually, a team mate or friend of yours can ask a question,
but this time we asked our fans to ask you something. So let's see.
Jeremy, tell me how you felt during the last days of the transfer period.
There was a lot going on. A lot going on, right.
Yes, right.
We signed Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea. Do you know him?
I know him, yes. I often watch Premiere League and I've already seen him.
I think he hasn't played that much recently.
What kind of guy is he? Guy?
Yes, what kind of player.
I think he's got a great presence and he's playing very offensive.
He doesn't need much time to score.
He should continue like that, would be helpful for us.
But I'll get to know him in training, and then I can give you a better answer.
You've been a last-minute transfer too in summer.
How did you as a player experience the last hours?
It's exciting, because you don't know whether you're gonna stay or leave.
It's a huge step, because you have to move, get to know new team mates,
say goodbye to the old team mates.
It's not that easy when you don't know if it's gonna happen or not.
But that's part of the game. That's right. You just need to stay calm.
Exactly.
You're someone who stays calm, right?
Yes, I'm pretty relaxed.
You are? Can you also be really emotional?
Usually I'm not. I'm rather relaxed.
I wish I was sometimes. So you're not?
No.
Well sometimes I wish I was more emotional, but…
So we could exchange some character traits.
Yes, good idea.
Now it's time for the duel. You know what that means.
Yes.
Jeremy, Jerry versus Nobby.
We'll see three scenes from matches against 1. FC Köln
and we have to decide what's going to happen next. Let's see.
Black: Clearance Yellow: Goal
You're waiting for me?
3… 2… 1…
I think he'll shoot at the stadium clock.
Looks like… my goodness!
Black: Goal in Essen Yellow: Goal in Gelsenkirchen
Do you get that?
3… 2… 1…
Right! That was pretty strange.
I think the conditions here in Dortmund were so bad we had to play in Gelsenkirchen.
Would be impossible today, but back then it was okay.
Black: Hitting the head Yellow: Hitting the feet
3… 2… 1…
So now…
Do you know the scene? No, but now we'll have a winner.
You know what "omme" means? That's head, right?
Yes, right. And "quanten" is feet.
Hitting the head! I won!
I thought "quanten" was something else.
What did you think it was?
I thought it was the area between the legs.
Well maybe we should do "Ruhr area German for beginners".
Yes, I have to learn that.
Yes, "omme" and "quanten".
If someone says "für umme", you know what that means?
That means "for free", right?
Exactly, you know that.
Yes, I know some words already.
Yes, great.
Let's have a look at the intermediate result that makes me very happy.
I guess you're happy too, Jeremy? Of course.
It's 34:31 for me. I'm totally happy.
Now we'll take a nice picture. We need to see more of you than of me.
A little closer. Do you think it'll look good?
I think so.
The picture takes a little while.
So I have the time to tell you I met Papa Sokratis this week
and presented the goal-of-the-year-trophy for his goal against Frankfurt.
Great goal and a deserved winner.
Together we'll look at the goal and Papa was very happy about the award.
You can watch the full video on BVB total! now.
Jerry, does Papa score in the training as well?
I don't want him to hear that, but rarely.
Rarely? I didn't see it that often.
Iron foot. He rather clears in the defense.
Exactly. That's important too.
So let's take a look at the picture. As always, you're looking good.
Please don't write across the faces.
Great. Thank you.
Thank you too.
Great you took the time to come here.
Please come back from Cologne with 3 points, that would be great.
Stay healthy. Thanks.
Great player and great guy, Jeremy Toljan.
Thanks Jerry. Thanks.
See you soon, bye! Bye.
