Antonio's Top 20 Style Pet Peeves [0:00:00]
All right, gents so when you begin your style journey nobody tells you about the curse.
What am I talking about?
I'm talking about how you start to notice all the style mistakes being made out there
and you want to go up to these random people you don't even know and correct them.
It can drive you nuts.
Guys, in today's video, I'm laying out my personal style pet peeves.
[Music] Pet peeve number one.
Sagging trousers.
Gentlemen, this is how you wear your trousers.
Pretty simple, right?
Okay.
This is how you do not wear your trousers.
I don't want to see your underwear and I definitely don't want to see your butt crack.
Gentlemen, please fix this at least when you're in public.
Pet peeve number two.
Wearing pajamas outside the house.
Gentlemen, this is how you dress outside of your house.
You've actually got quite a few options, you can dress up, you can dress down.
Notice that pajamas is not one of the options.
Please take heed.
Now, my next set of pet peeves pertains to the proper use of socks.
Let's first talk about the white tube athletic sock.
It's a great sock, but understand it is for athletic events, it is for when you go
to the gym.
Beyond that, guys you should have more options when it comes to socks.
Do not wear the white tube socks with the suit.
You wear a dark pair of socks like this right here.
This is going to work with a suit.
Next up, understand that you've got other options when you're wearing casual trousers
like khakis light jeans, you can actually wear socks like these.
You have more options than the white tube sock.
My next pet peeve is men wearing shoes without socks at all.
Understand, if you're wearing shoes especially nice shoes, you've got to wear socks.
The reason being is you will sweat in those shoes and it's going to go right into the
shoe and damage the shoe.
Socks protect shoes from the inside out and there are such a thing as no-show socks.
I get it, you don't want to show, you know, the top of the sock, you want to have that
cool look, look for no-show socks.
But, gentlemen, wear socks with your shoes.
Now, some of you guys know, this may not bother you, but it does bother people whenever you
take your shoes off, let's say you're visiting somebody's house and then your
big toe is sticking out right there.
Now, I'm not going to judge you, but I am going to say upgrade your sock drawer.
And now, that we're talking about rebuilding your sock drawer.
Gentlemen, I want to introduce you to Feetures, they are the paid sponsor of today's video
and an amazing sock brand.
That for the last two months I have been using their sock, guys, and I can tell you I love
them.
Why?
So, you've got to understand their history.
Fifteen years ago, these guys started as a brand focused on solving the problem for runners,
they made performance socks.
They made socks that basically didn't have all the issues of cheap socks and if you're
– I'm a runner.
And if you're a runner if you're anyone that's a performance athlete you know that
you've got to have the right gear because with the wrong socks, you're going to get
hotspots you're going to get blisters.
So, these guys came in and they are now the number one sock for runners.
But, there are guys that people in the audience they said, you know what?
I want an everyday sock.
So, that's what they did.
They went back and they created a whole line of everyday socks with a wide variety, different
colors, patterns.
All right, guys, so there are three things in particular that I really love about these
everyday socks from Feetures.
Number one is the targeted compression in the arch.
Basically what that means is that these socks stay where they need to stay and they are
incredibly comfortable.
Speaking of comfort, let's look at the fiber.
They use a synthetic fiber that is going to wick away moisture and is incredibly soft.
Finally, they've got a lifetime guarantee.
I have been wearing these and they are incredibly durable.
These are tough socks and that's what I love about it.
So, guys, go check them out.
I'm linking to them down in the description.
There's a discount code for you to use.
An amazing company and I'm proud to have them as a sponsor.
Go check them out, awesome company.
My next pet peeve, people that are oblivious to the dress code and there is always a dress
code.
They may be unwritten, but there's an expectation of a way that you should be dressed.
So, if you're staying in a nice hotel and it's got a nice restaurant next to it with
a nice spa, know that you should not probably go from the spa in your bathrobe into the
restaurant no matter how hungry you are.
Go up and change into proper clothing.
I don't want to look over and imagine that you could get that bathrobe snag on something
and all of a sudden I'm getting a show which I wasn't, you know, wasn't expecting I
definitely didn't pay for.
Please observe the dress code.
My next pet peeve, bad proportion mixing.
So some examples, taking a wide lapel peak lapel suit and mixing it with a skinny tie.
Now, it just doesn't work.
A more extreme example, having a very large man in tight skinny jeans, it's just not
something it just wasn't meant to go together, being around somebody in a closed space that
has overused fragrance.
Guys, just don't do it.
I've been on an airplane and there was someone, I mean like, wow.
Now, I'll just not breathe the entire flight, but there are some people they're going
to have a reaction to this.
They are literally going to get migraine headaches.
Think, I want to be discovered, not announced.
Naybe use one spray maybe even skip it entirely.
[0:05:00] So, this next stop pet peeve I have to admit,
I, yeah, I'm guilty of it.
When I was 13 years old, I thought I wore an extra large size t-shirt.
Now, I wear a size medium.
What happened?
I kind of realized what size I need to be wearing.
So, for those of you wearing super large t-shirts, know that you can size down.
There's nothing wrong with actually finding a t-shirt that actually fits your body.
My next pet peeve is screaming logos.
We're talking about the oversized logo on the chest.
We're talking about on the pants basically having twenty different logos.
Guys, unless you're getting paid by the company, keep the logos to a minimum.
Now, this next pet peeve you probably saw it coming, the ill-fitted suit.
So, my issue with ill-fitted suits is a lot of these people have spent good money, they
could have got it fitted and adjusted and they didn't know what to ask for.
So, make sure you when you buy a suit even if you just spent $100, $200, get it adjusted
to fit your body.
Next up, when you buy something new and it's got tags on it, it's got the tuck stitching
in the back, make sure to cut that tuck stitching have it removed.
The tag that's on the sleeve, that is meant to be removed.
Please remove it if you're going to wear it out on public.
Now, really quick I want to talk about a pet peeve that I know a lot of people have and
that pertains to suit jackets and the bottom button.
Basically, the rule is that the top button should always be buttoned when you stand,
the bottom button never.
And the reason that rule is there is because most suits designed to look better whenever
that button is unbuttoned.
So, this next pet peeve some of you guys may disagree, but I don't really like the look
of the dress shirts buttoned all the way up without a necktie.
I, it's just I don't know, I don't really like the look.
It's just not my thing.
So, this next dress shirt pet peeve, it upsets me not because the guys are breaking the rule
when I see them doing this, but because I think they are shooting themselves in the
foot when they go into an interview and they're wearing green, red, blue, black dress shirts
and they think it's okay for interview attire.
Guys, this is not – those are not dress shirts by definition.
A dress shirt and the one you should wear into an interview is white.
Light blue is accepted, but it's technically not correct.
Dress shirts by definition are light-colored.
My next style pet peeve, wrinkled clothing.
Gentlemen, you don't want to show off to work looking like you just rolled out of bed.
Yes, you may have, but come on, learn to iron your clothing learn to control that message.
I've created infographics, articles, videos.
Guys, just simply start using iron.
Wrinkled clothing look, it just doesn't work for you.]
Pet peeves pertaining to shoes, oh, I could have gone on and on about this one, but I'll
just lay out three.
Number one, polish and take care of your footwear.
Guys, when you polish and take care of your footwear, it actually will last longer.
I hate to see guys spend good money on shoes and then destroy them damage them by not simply
polishing them.
Next up, avoid those square toes.
I don't – the square toe style just does not do it for me.
Finally, look to expand your casual shoes beyond the running shoe.
The running shoe is great for running, but when it comes to casual or guys you have so
many options.
Go out there explore, have fun.
All these things I'm talking about these pet peeves, understand that that does not
give you the right when you think you know the rules to go forth and correct another
person especially if it could embarrass them.
You're welcome to bring it up in private maybe show them, hey, have you ever thought
about this.
You all of a sudden do it in a very tactful manner, but not in front of others.
Do not embarrass other people.
All right, gentlemen, now it's your turn.
I want to hear from you down in the comments what are your style pet peeves?
What did I miss, what would you have added to this list?
I do want to hear from you guys.
I appreciate you.
Hopefully you enjoy this video, I had a lot of fun with it.
Oh, and go check out the sponsor of today's video, guys.
Feetures, an amazing brand.
I've talked with the – with the founders, they just got such a great story.
It is an amazing product.
Like I said for two months I've been testing this out and they come with just regular black
if that's what you want, but with the performance of a running sock.
The durability is definitely was the big thing for me, but when you look at the targeted
compression you look at all, you know, the material that it's made from that synthetic
wicking moisture fabric.
I mean I've worn this when I workout, so just a great sock.
One of my favorite brands now.
So, guys, go check them out.
I'm linking to them down in the description with an awesome discount code.
That's it, what more can I say?
Guys, take care.
Have a great day.
