Lebanese chef living the ''French dream'' - Duration: 1:48.

This was the moment Alan Geaam won his Michelin star

He was awarded for his cooking at this restaurant in the upmarket 16th arrondissement of the French capital

It's the fourth restaurant he's opened in Paris

ALAN: This is a French dream actually. People are always talking about American dream and this for me, this is the French dream.

Alan spent his early years in Liberia. His family left when civil war broke out

only to find more conflict back home in Lebanon

But they settled in Tripoli in the north of the country and Alan's family still lives there

When he was 24, he came to Paris and spent his first week sleeping on the streets

ALAN: I never believed

somebody like me could one day get a Michelin star because I never believed Michelin would be interested in

somebody who never went to school, never worked in the palace, never worked with Alain Ducasse

Yannick Alléno, no. I just grew up by myself and learned.

French TV shows and his Lebanese mother's cooking influenced Alan's style.

No surprise then that his signature starter is foie gras and Lebanese pomegranates

ALAN: This is my story. This is my story - the French food with Lebanese food is my story. It's my life.

Customers pay 60 to 100 euros for a meal at his recently Michelin-starred restaurant

That's more than twice as much as Alan had in his pocket when he first arrived in Paris

Day 42: India Gets Free Healthcare? - Duration: 1:01.

Hey guys! And welcome to Goodness!

Today's goodness is about India

introducing free healthcare!

Dubbed Modicare,

after the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi,

the government has announced

that it will offer up to

500,000 rupees a year

to over 100 million low-income

families for healthcare!

That's enough to cover five

heart surgeries in India!

It is estimated

that this will help up to

five hundred million people,

which is almost seven percent

of the world population!

In ONE country!

India is huge!!

Currently, India's public hospitals are

severely, severely understaffed,

causing ridiculously long wait times.

While their private hospitals,

are too expensive for

most of the Indian population,

which means that people

have to go in debt to see a doctor!!

So let's hope Prime Minister Modi

keeps his word!

Fingers crossed, India!!

And that's today's Goodness!

See you tomorrow!

(#11) Decission: Stop and chill out - Whangaruru Harbour, New Zealand | Travels (#28) - Duration: 6:23.

<Kasia is basically trying to pronounce certain Polish word that means 'a stalk'

Come on, say it...

How is driving going?

Kasia is driving here for the first time

I think it is even the very first time she drives on the left hand side

Maybe she tried once or twice before but this is definitely proper first time

Its difficult, especially if you drove on the opposite side before...

On top of that, driving van is also different than normal car

What is happening here? :)

Look at those little calfs!!

Look at the brown one.

so cute!

We've decided to chill out a little bit

...we've been constantly on the move and stressing out over past 2 weeks

we've found a very nice spot

and we'll stay here for the next 3 days

My dear audience.... Today we will be preparing pasta with tuna, tomatoes and vegetables

We will use whatever vegetables we have

can of tuna, can of tomatoes

we put everything on a frying pan, add spices and the lunch is ready!

What spices do you use?

Salt, pepper and garlic will be completely enough

Cool... and then we will eat... and during the breaks we enjoy our garden view

I think I will sunbathe today... :)

I think Kasia starts to enjoy it

From the previous videos you may have thought that we didn't enjoy ourselves...

But I think we are slowly getting used to this kind of living

Because we are the kind of people who like the comforts of the house

We often look for the most comfortable option

I have to admit that at the beginning I wasn't sure about all this camping

But if you have a weather and view like this then how can you not enjoy it?

Pease and silence... horses :)

Cool, maybe I will prepare some guacamole or something?

Today I will show you how NOT to peal avocado!

We cut it in half

There is a seed inside. NEVER use your knife to take it out like this!

The knife will most probably go through avocado and will cut your finger really badly!

Cutting avocado is actually the most common finger tendon injury in UK!

They'll tell you that in hospitals and in newspapers :)

They seed is best taken out in this way:

hit and twist

If there is no problem, then avocado is ready to eat

You add cut onion

Do some fork work...

garlic

Kasia likes to add parsley - why not?

salt for flavor

pepper of course

lemon juice

In every recipe you can always find coriander...

I hate it so we never add it

no coriander then in this case

just joking... its delicious

that's how you do guacamole

if you do not know. I assume most people know how to do it

Avocado is super healthy, filling... and super expensive in New Zealand!

I think Kasia finished preparing the lunch

cheese on top of course :)

thank you Kasia

We have invasion of midges in our van

thumb kill

Kasia teaches me how to kill them as she is an expert in midge extermination

She says: "You need to slide"

The way so you smear it on the upholstery....

Make sure you make a midge-jam out of them on the upholstery

"Don't just hit them" she says

Kasia will demonstrate here...

Look at the midge-jam here

midge-corpse

Here's big one

It's your Piotr

Look at that - Its smeared

Will we smear more this evening?

No? Goodnight then :)

Learning 20 Words/Day With Ease (Learning Japanese, Week 1) - Duration: 5:17.

imaginOkay!

Real Talk!

So last week I set out to learn...

"Japanese"

So by now I should know 140 words...

Do I?

Yes! I do!

I've been studying about two hours a day

and with that I've been able to learn 140 words!

we're gonna do a big review of all the vocabulary I learned...

maybe in a week or two

when we have a more substantial list

but this week today...

what I want to talk about is how to do that!

How to learn words every single day and remember them!

Don't just learn...

Way back in the day I used to work for a company called TechStars

It's an incubator for startups where they kind of help young companies get off the ground

and one of the companies there was Memrise...

One of the leading language learning apps right now...

back then it was just three people...

and I was helping them with technical stuff

and...

one of the founders, Ed Cooke

is a fascinating memory champion

and...

he taught me...

He's able to memorize a deck of cards in a minute or two...

and the way he's able to do it is by...

not memorizing it...

but...

but imagining it!

So, what he's gonna try to do, when he's trying to memorize a deck of cards

is make up a story

he's thinking...

I'm walking into a room and then there is a painting

and that painting represents some number, it represents...

something particular, that reminds him of that first card!

and then he walks on...

and then there's a carpet, and that carpet has a specific maybe color, or shape or something

and that reminds me of the second card...

and so by imagining and scene

imagining a whole big thing

he's able to then...

when he's trying to remember those cards

walk through that scene in his memory...

and...

be able to recollect everything perfectly!

and this is not some woo-woo bullshit!

This is a memory champion...

that's been featured in New York Times, wrote a book

a best selling book

and now has a leading company in...

language learning!

So this stuff really works!

And so I thought...

well yeah that sounds like a great idea!

Let's say I'm trying to learn the word for yellow...

in Japanese

the word is "ki"

and I could try to remember it...

but at some point I'm gonna...

forget it!

and...

when I forget it, I don't have any hooks on that word!

because it's just a random word, "ki"

I don't...

There's no hooks in my in my brain that are connected

It's just one binary connection

but when I think about it

I think okay, well "keys" in English...

they're usually yellow

so now I've built one connection to that word!

So...

When I can't remember the word, I can remember

there was some connection with keys and keys are yellow....

Ohh key, Ok, yeah yeah yeah

that's that's what it is!

Right? And that's a really simple example.

Let me give you a harder example...

Let's say I'm trying to learn the word for "cool"

cool weather

in Japanese

which is...

Suzushii

I learned this, this week!

It's not a super difficult word but it's still something that you're prone to forget

and so you need a little bit of a hook on top of it, on it

but it's not as easy as it was the first word, right?

because there's no...

obvious connection with anything

but...

there is a singer in Korea that I really like

Suzy

So then...

if I can have a little bit of that connection in my brain

Suzy is cool...

then...

any time I think what is the word for cool weather...

I'm thinking, Suzy, Suzy, Sus, Sus... Suzushii

and then I can finish that word off

and so it's a lot easier than just working off of nothing...

of your brain

and then the weirder you make it, the weirder you make it...

the better it is!

because the weirder the story, the more sticky it is in your brain!

and a lot of the words are gonna be very very personal...

let's say we're looking at the word "Hosoi"

that's the word for "weak" in Japanese.

"weak", "skinny"

and so what I what I imagine...

I imagine all those high school girls walking with their soy lattes...

in their...

UGGs

and then their...

pink PJs

and they're like soy hoe

Right?

So, "Hosoi"

For me when I look at that word...

that imagery of that American girl walking with her pumpkin latte or whatever...

is just so vivid that it's so easy for me to remember!

and...

there is no way I can ever forget the word "Hosoi"

because...

I just, I just made it really weird for myself...

and...

and it's really easy!

So, it's a lot better to spend a minute looking at a word and thinking

about how I can put hooks on on it,

then just going through it, and then flipping through cards

and and trying to memorize everything

okay, that's a lot of talking!

but, that's, that's pretty much what I've been doing!

on top of that I've been learning a little bit of grammar from this book, I got to like page 30...

Yeah, we'll see where this takes me!

I'm excited!

and...

I'll see you guys next week!

#1 - Going to a familiar place

When dating, be sure to take initiative on the place you are going to meet.

It is important because it keeps you focused on the person instead of the environment.

If you decided to meet at a restaurant, you do not have to worry anymore about the place

because you know the menu and – probably – the owner and their workers.

#2 - Treating strangers like friends

This makes your brain relaxed a little bit, but please do not get carried away.

Pretend that the person is like your old friend, and you just haven't met for a while.

It is even better that throughout the conversation you find similarities which can be used for

another topic to talk.

#3 - Show that you are introvert

You should remember that people actually can understand each other especially if you are

nice and honest.

That means, showing or saying that you are introvert will bring nice comfortable atmosphere

since both know what to say already.

#4 - Practice

This one is not ideal for some occasion though.

However, you absolutely can try practicing every single thing you want to say in the

next meeting with others.

This help you to respond quicker which makes you feel more confident for continuing the

conversation.

#5 - Focus on friendship first

Establishing friendship is difficult for introverts because they rarely meet people.

However, it is possible to ask your more extroverted friends to go along with you.

Eventually you can meet someone with the same wavelength as you do.

#6 - Ask question

As introverts, it is a struggle to respond some questions.

That is why it is always better to ask question first.

From this point, they usually open up and you are ready to listen – the activity that

you like the most in a conversation.

OK, let's take a look at this question today

I heard that this problem stumped many Japanese netizens

Of course, I heard someone can do it in less than 5 seconds

In fact, if we have learned algebra we can solve it in 5 seconds

I'll show you later

In fact, this question is only the subject of algebra

Very simple algebra topic

Just replaced by pictures and it stumped lots of Internet users

In fact, it is not difficult at all

This question if it replaced by algebraic form

In fact, it is a ternary equation

Let's say I treat the rabbit as x and cat as y

That is x + y = 10

Think of a rabbit as x and dog as x

In fact, x + z = 20

That is the second equation

Cat is y dog is z

The question is x + y + z =?

In fact, this question is not difficult

We can really do it in 5 seconds

Add the three equations together

You do not need to solve all the unknowns

That is 2x + 2y + 2z = 54

Divided by 2

So x + y + z = 27

What's so hard? Everyone can do it in 5 seconds

We come to an end here today. Thank you for giving this video a like if you like such video
