Democrats Just Realized They Now Have No Leverage Against Trump Over DACA

Now that Congress has passed a budget deal to boost defense, increase spending gaps and

lift the debt ceiling, Democrats are realizing they no longer can use a deal on the Deferred

Action for Childhood Arrivals program as leverage against President Donald Trump.

The bipartisan spending bill was passed early Friday morning after a brief government shutdown

overnight.

The new budget agreement includes $131 billion extra available for non-military spending,

according to Reuters, which incorporates $90 billion for disaster aid for U.S. states and

territories hit by hurricanes or wildfires last year.

The Democrats who voted against the bill disputed it because it didn�t provide a comprehensive

plan for 800,000 illegal immigrants protected under DACA who were brought to the U.S. as

children.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., pointed out that the Democrats �now have zero leverage on

immigration,� according to the Washington Examiner.

The political party had used three leverage points for immigration in the past � budget

caps, the debt ceiling and disaster aid � but those are no longer available after the new

spending bill covered all three.

Gutierrez also said that the vote on implementing the new budget agreement next month does not

provide much hope in using any form of leverage unless those who voted �yes� turned around

and voted against the money being spent in that way.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi urged Democrats to oppose the new spending bill because it

didn�t provide a resolution for thousands of �dreamers�, Politico reported.

Trump has given Congress a deadline of March 5 to pass new legislation for the DACA program.

Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., joined Pelosi�s opposition of the vote, according to the Washington

Examiner.

�We have to be realistic, if this passes and there�s no guarantee of a Dream Act

vote, then we�re going to have to deal with the reality that we have to find whatever

means possible to put pressure on Speaker Ryan and the Republican Party to bring a fair

vote on the Dream Act to the floor,� Gallego said before the vote.

Despite the lack of a DACA resolution, 73 Democrats still voted to pass the spending

bill.

House Speaker Paul Ryan promised on Thursday that the House �will solve this DACA problem.�

�We still have the most important leverage points, and that�s the humanity of this

issue,� Rep. Raul Grijalva said.

�Instead of worrying about what legislative angle we have let�s now concentrate on making

this a campaign that is both political and zeroed in on Ryan.�

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi added that the March 5 deadline �is coming up really fast.�

�I�m not hearing enough in the way of the president saying we�re going to delay

this deadline.

He�s leaving that very open, which means he wants to leave them exposed and in jeopardy.�

According to Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley, the fate of the DACA recipients lies

with the public�s opinion.

�Well, I think we have the moral �suasion of the American people,� he said.

�I think it�s moral �suasion at this point.

Speaker said that we�ll move on something, I don�t know what that is.�

You train your butt off to come here to be NUMBER 1.

I did everything I could have possibly done.. I've trained my A$$ off to be here and I'm READY.

One of my goals this year is to really just bring my conditioning to another level.

And see a different matured look on my muscle.

And I think the way we're training right now, is really tapping in to some muscle fibers

and changing the shape of my muscle as I'm coming down for the show..

That's something I'm seeing and the training style is what's helping me do that.

It's a relentless pursuit DAY IN and DAY OUT.

To say I wanna take my body to a level that most people will never do.

This way I think I will be in the best shape EVER.

How Uneducated Is Our Planet? - Duration: 3:38.

Hey there, welcome to Life Noggin.

People are always telling kids to stay in school and study hard.

They say education is vital.

But is the world getting the education it needs?

Are people actually staying in school? Let's find out!

Well, as of 2016 86% of people 15 years and older were literate.

Compare that to 1950 and you'll see that just 35.9% of the world population was literate

back then.

So that's a good sign.

The net enrollment rate in secondary school was 65% in 2014, compared to 55% in 2000.

Also, the Millennial generation looks as though it will be the most educated generation in

all of US history, in terms of bachelor's degrees.

But why does all of this matter?

What kind of benefits does education have?

As it turns out, it has a lot.

Education is hugely important for individuals as well as societies.

Let's start with personal health.

People without a high school degree have been found to have mortality rates over twice as

high as people with some college education.

Americans with less education are also more likely to develop chronic diseases such as

heart disease and type 2 diabetes than their more educated counterparts.

Does dropping out of high school really cause you to die at a younger age?

Well, if you've ever taken a psychology class you've probably heard an important

rule: correlation does not equal causation.

Being more educated might not directly cause you to be healthier.

Education creates opportunities that can influence health, like a higher income and, therefore,

better access to healthcare.

So while the statistics favor more educated people, it's not necessarily true that an

extra degree will add years to your life.

But let's take a look at society as a whole.

What kind of benefits does education have on a group of people?

On a political level, higher education is correlated with greater participation in democracy.

It increases the chances of anti-dictatorship revolutions, while decreasing the chances

of anti-democracy ones.

More education is also associated with lower crime rates.

All in all, education sounds pretty important.

So why isn't everyone staying in school and getting PhDs? The answer?

Barriers.

There are tons of barriers that prevent people from accessing education.

For starters, racism and sexism affect people's perceptions about their ability to learn.

In the US, 45% of schools with many students living in poverty receive less funding than

other schools in their districts, setting these students back even further.

Around the world, approximately 263 million children and teenagers are not in school.

There are many reasons for this.

In some countries, mandatory education only lasts 5 or 6 years.

A few countries don't have required education at all, in fact.

Gender and social class also have strong effects on kids' education rates.

Girls' literacy rates and formal education rates are lower than boys' worldwide.

In some countries, differences have been found between the richest 40% and the poorest 60%

in terms of how many students started school at a later than average age.

Education is super beneficial, but in many places, it's inaccessible for lots of people.

So next time you find yourself wondering why you have to stay in school, remember how important

it is and how lucky you are to be there. Even if the lunch looks like that.

Anyway... do what you can to educate yourself, and to help others get educated too.

I'm getting ready to record my supernatural reactions, but

We just got a phone call from the vet saying

The test results came back, and it's definitely not cancer

which is a very very good sign for us

But the vet said it's either a

Fatty mass that will die over time or it's his prostate so Koji

Gets to go in tomorrow

To the vet's office and get some blood work done

My mom's gonna drop him off in the morning, and then when I get off work. I'll go pick him up, so he's gonna spend

about four hours

about five six hours of most

At the vet's office getting all that done

so I

Have already printed out the drop off for him for my mom to fill out before she leaves to go drop him off, and yeah

That's amazing. It's not cancer. So that was like my biggest worry on that

How to Create & Translate Subtitles CC for free for YouTube videos - using Subtitle Edit nikse,dk - Duration: 7:26.

Hello and welcome to Mr Tompkins Ed Tech.

In this video I've taken a bit of a departure from my normal content and will instead be

looking at a really useful tool to help fellow YouTube creators reach a wider audience.

I have recently had an influx of fellow creators as subscribers, showing stalwart support and

solidarity by sitting through some of my scintillating maths videos.

Whilst I commend their tenacity I thought I would to make something they might actually

find useful.

So this is a video tutorial to help YouTubers create better subtitles both in their home

language, and to translate these into other common languages on YouTube.

So why would you want to create subtitles for your videos?

Firstly, it Improves SEO – studies have show that videos with closed captions rank

more highly than videos without, with a lifetime added benefit of around 8% additional views.

Secondly, they make your video more accessible.

There are 36 million people in the US who are deaf or hard of hearing and around 5%

of the total world population have some degree of hearing loss.

Making your own captions ensures that they are accurate, legible and synced with the

video, giving users a better experience, and giving you more views and watchtime.

English speaking countries make up less than half of YouTube's total users, so translating

your captions into other languages will expose your content to a whole new audience.

Also, multilingual subtitles will be indexed for search in each language you include, further

improving your SEO.

Thirdly, Captions let your audience watch your content in more places.

80% of people watching videos with captions turned on don't actually have a hearing

problem – they just have the sound down due to where they happen to be viewing.

In the office, on a train, in a library, or with a sleeping baby in their arms.

Providing captions gives viewers the opportunity to enjoy your content in noisy environments

or when its not appropriate to have the sound turned on.

This is one of my recent videos.

It's been doing quite well, and perhaps I can give it even more of a push by adding

captions.

Lets edit the video, and then go to the Subtitles/CC tab.

Personally, I usually script my videos first, and if you also have a script in a word document

or notepad or something, you can click the "add new subtitles or CC" button, choose

your home language and the "transcribe and auto-sync".

You can then cut and paste your script into the video transcript box and press "set

timings".

YouTube will take a few minutes to process this and pair up your script with the video.

If you don't have a script, then no problem.

You can easily polish up the autogenerated one made by YouTube.

YouTube does a pretty good job with autogenerating subtitles – most of the words are correctly

identified, and it is mostly in sync with the video.

But the lack of any punctuation, the rolling text style and the occasional mistakes make

it harder to read than manually created subtitles.

That said, it is a great starting point for creating your own subtitles if you don't

have a script ready to use.

Select the "English (automatic)" subtitles and then "edit".

You can then go through, add capitalisation and punctuation and correct any misheard words.

You probably want to do this even if you uploaded your own script, because unless you are a

robot you will have deviated a bit from the plan anyway.

Run it through and check the timings are ok.

Now we have cleaned up the English Subtitles, we can now easily convert them to different

languages.

I'm using a tool called "Subtitle Edit", which you can get for free from the website

http://nikse.dk.

Download and install on your pc.

"Subtitle Edit" can do lots of cool things to make your subtitles more professional looking,

but we are just going to be using the translation feature today.

First, lets download our English subtitles we've already made in youtube as an *.srt

file, and then open them up in "Subtitle edit".

Click the Open icon and locate your downloaded .srt file.

Once it has opened, click on the "Auto-translate" menu and select "Translate (powered by google)".

Select the language you want to translate your subtitles to.

I'm going to choose dutch to start with.

Press "Translate" and it will take a few seconds to work it's way through.

Once done, click "ok", and then tap the save icon.

You'll notice that it automatically appends a language id to the file name – in this

case NL for The Netherlands.

Done.

If you want to do another language, load the original .srt file again, and rinse and repeat.

I'm going to make German subtitles this time.

Done.

It's very easy to make as many as you like.

Google translate has over 100 to choose from, although some are obviously going to be a

lot more in demand than others.

This graph shows the number of users from various countries – so you can see from

this that Portuguese and Russian might be a good choice.

You should bare in mind though that some countries like Germany have a lot of home generated

content, and might not be so keen to watch subtitled videos.

Some smaller countries like the Netherlands and Sweden are much more used to watching

content with subtitles and you might find that these will disproportionately watch your content.

Have a look at your own analytics and try to figure out who's watching you content

and from where.

Ok, now we have generated the subtitles we need to re-upload these to YouTube.

So back to the edit screen.

Tap "add new subtitles or CC", type in the name, in this case "dutch", click

"upload a file", then "choose file", and locate your translated subtitles.

Click "upload" and then "publish".

That's it.

We now have our Dutch subtitles as well as English.

I'll just go through the process again for "german", and obviously you can do this

again and again for whichever languages you choose to create.

Now google translate is far from perfect and I'm sure there will be quite a few errors

with the translations.
