Waching daily Feb 12 2018

FATHER, I WANNA PRAY JUST REALLY ESPECIALLY FOR EVERYBODY

IN THE ROOM TONIGHT THAT'S BEEN DISCOURAGED, WHO'S JUST BEEN

CAMPED LONGER THAN THEY FEEL LIKE THEY CAN STAND.

AND, LORD, YOU, OH, YOU NEVER PUT MORE ON US THAN WHAT WE CAN

BEAR, BUT WITH EVERY TEMPTATION, YOU ALWAYS PROVIDE A WAY OUT.

AND I KNOW THAT MANY TIMES, WE THINK WE CAN'T STAND

TO WAIT ONE MORE DAY, BUT IF WE REALLY CAN'T STAND

TO WAIT ONE MORE DAY, THEN WE WON'T HAVE TO WAIT ONE MORE

DAY, BECAUSE YOU'RE FAITHFUL.

AND I PRAY FOR PEOPLE THAT YOU WOULD GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO

ENCOURAGE THEM, MAYBE A LITTLE THING, MAYBE A BIG THING.

BUT I PRAY THAT WITHIN THE NEXT 10 DAYS, THAT PEOPLE HERE THAT

ARE DISCOURAGED WILL SEE SOME LITTLE ENCOURAGEMENT TO KEEP

THEM MOTIVATED TOWARD MOVING ON.

I ASK YOU TO PROVIDE FOR EVERYBODY WHO HAS A NEED,

BUT ESPECIALLY, LORD, I PRAY EPHESIANS 3:16 OVER THEM, THAT

THEY WOULD BE STRENGTHENED WITH ALL MIGHT AND POWER IN THE INNER

MAN THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT INDWELLING THEIR INNERMOST BEING

AND PERSONALITY.

IF WE'RE STRONG ENOUGH INSIDE, THEN NO MATTER WHAT COMES

AGAINST US OUTSIDE, WE WILL KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON.

AND WE THANK YOU FOR IT, IN JESUS' NAME, AMEN.

10 English words that DON'T EXIST in Spanish | Superholly - Duration: 14:22.

Hate is odio.

Hater could technically be odiador? That's just not right.

Hey guys, it's Holly!

Welcome to another video!

Today we are going to have some fun and learn a little bit on the side.

For those of you who dabble in language learning, you probably already know that translations

are really just approximations.

Not all translations can be literal, or word-for-word, simply because of the different resources

that we have at our disposal in each language.

Each language is rich in its own vocabulary,

but some languages seem to have gaps in certain areas.

Not only that, but other languages have words that have multiple meanings,

or convey certain nuances that are just really hard to translate,

and definitely impossible to translate with one simple word.

Now, before I get started with this awesome list

of ten of my favorite English words that don't exist in Spanish,

let me send a shout out to my sponsor.

This video is brought to you guys by Squarespace,

where you can make a sleek and unique, professional-looking website for your brand or business.

Be sure to click that link in the description: squarespace.com/superholly

So, you can get 10% off your first purchase.

I will be chatting a little bit more about Squarespace later,

but for now, let's kick off this list!

The first English word that does not have a direct translation into Spanish is struggle.

Y'all know the struggle is real.

Now, I don't know about other languages, but as far as Spanish, which is the context that

I'm always operating in, it's really hard to convey the meaning of

this phrase.

The first definition you'll find if you look it up is lucha.

But lucha means more like battle or combat or fight.

Lucha is to fight or to battle plus you're somehow missing a little bit of the element

of the effort that may or may not be taking you anywhere you can seriously be struggling

and sometimes not even be achieving that much.

You also can struggle and not have an opponent.

You're just struggling.

I find it really interesting that the word struggle rhymes or kind of reminds me of the

words wriggle and wiggle, so you get that connotation of a worm wriggling around or

just squirming, you know and of course struggle can be a noun the struggle is real or a verb

I'm struggling to understand what you mean in the second case I feel like an

accurate translation might be Me ha costado trabajo entenderte.

Quite literally it's taking a lot of effort for me to understand what you're trying to

say.

But at the end of the day the word struggle is unique and unparalleled, and we should

celebrate it!

Because, guys, the struggle is oh so real!

The second English word that does not have a direct translation into Spanish, now this

one might be a little surprising for you guys, it is toe or toes.

Yes, in Spanish we have to say dedos del pie, which quite literally means fingers of the

foot.

Yes, that's right.

I remember when I found this out I was quite flabbergasted to say the least!

We all know the feeling of kicking the corner of the bed writhing in pain and having someone

ask us what happened and it's like, "I stubbed my toe!"

Well, imagine, in Spanish you have to say "¡Me machuqué el dedo del pie!"

My favorite part: Guess how you say big toe in Spanish?

Dedo gordo del pie!

That literally means fat finger of the foot!

I love it! the third English word that doesn't have a direct translation into Spanish: lock.

No,w if we're talking about the noun there are a few options that do quite a good job:

candado, cerradura, o cerrujo.

However, when we're talking about locking as a verb there's just no one word to say

it.

You can say, "Cerrar con llave," which means closing with a key, cerrar con candado,

which means closing, with a lock again lock as a noun, not as a verb, or ponerle Seguro

a la Puerta, put the safety on the door.

All of these convey the same thing that the word lock does, but there's no one word to

say it, so if you're at a stoplight, and a shady individual starts heading toward the

car, you might say, "Lock the doors." in Spanish you'd have to say, "Cierra las

puertas con llave," or "ponle seguro a la puerta."

"Hey, don't forget to lock the door!" "¡Oye!

"¡Que no se te olvide ponerle seguro a la puerta!"

Yes, that s really is how you say, "Hey, don't forget to lock the door"

"¡Oye! ¡Que no se te olvide ponerle seguro a la puerta!"

Spanish is fascinating, isn't it?

The fourth English word that does not translate into Spanish directly is crush.

Now ask any Spanish speaker and 95% of them, especially if they're Millennials, will know

what the word crush means.

Specifically, the kind of crush that may appear in an adolescent dreams.

I'm pretty sure that this concept of crush came from the original meaning of the word

which is to crush something.

In Spanish we would say machacar or aplastar, and it probably has something to do with the

way your heart feels when that special someone walks by and doesn't even blink at you.

But, yeah, in Spanish there's no word quite like crush you can say amor platónico, which

means platonic love and it refers to that ideal love that you'll probably never actually

have, kind of like a fantasy love but a crush doesn't necessarily have to be someone that's

unattainable, right?

Word number five that just doesn't translate into Spanish is

Wave.

Believe it or not!

Now, I'm not talking about the waves of the ocean.

That would be olas.

they were lesson in matter there are an infinite number of waves in the ocean

I'm talking about this kind of wave the thing that even babies learn before they

can speak can you wave wave bye-bye to Grandma

there is no word for this in Spanish it's so frustrating now you can say

subtle that but that more means to greet and it's not specific salut God could

mean waving yes but it could also mean welcome with us or it could mean la la

salud Arcola mano would mean to greet with the hand but then again you're not

really differentiating between this and a handshake there's simply a gap in the

Spanish language because apparently nobody thought it was important to say

this so let's wave this one out of the way and move on to number six

procrastinate Oh one of our favorite things to do can you

imagine if we didn't have a word for it in Spanish the definitions you will most

likely find for procrastinate would be a blessed or boss Bonilla but that

basically means to postpone and let's be honest you can postpone without being

unprofessional or lazy you could send an email to your boss and say hey I'm gonna

need to postpone that meeting to tomorrow you can't email your boss and

say I'm gonna have to procrastinate on that meeting it doesn't even sound right

in the first place but secondly there is that element of you not being

responsible you not taking care of business in a timely manner and Uplus

out and postpone it simply do not have that connotation the way I like to

describe it in Spanish is the head bottom on Jana Oh quite ghetto Trulia

look at what is House a boy it's leaving for tomorrow or any other day for that

matter what you could be doing today the seventh English word that doesn't exist

in Spanish another one of my favorites awkward I mean how awkward is that one

way to describe awkward is that it's the opposite of graceful awkwardness is the

opposite of grace therefore a ballerina is graceful my dad and me dancing at my

wedding may be a little bit awkward our movements just weren't in sync we

weren't flowing we were not looking graceful out there let's just put it

that way now a lot of people like to say of course awkward exists in Spanish it's

in coma though no no no no in coma low means uncomfortable yes you are getting

close to the feelings of awkward but you are certainly not exploring all of the

connotations a human being can be awkward Napoleon Dynamite anyone an

entire stage of your life can be awkward puberty

hello awkward people tend to make other people feel awkward and awkward

situations and awkward silences are just awkward in Spanish we have a really cool

term called Pina Pina which means external embarrassment you are feeling

embarrassed for someone else who's probably being awkward is awkwardness

contagious the jury's still out on that one either way I love the word and I

don't want to overuse it because it's gonna lose its meaning but let's be

grateful that we have it in the English language

moving on to word number eight hater who hasn't heard of haters it's such a thing

right now it's almost like a confused fan someone that's obsessed with

criticizing you someone who loves to hate on you would you believe that

there's no word for hater in Spanish hate is Audio hater

could technically be all the other that's just not right

Iwata let's head on or better so not gay OVF but nobody's gonna be using those

terms anytime soon hater just nails it and that's why you're gonna hear a lot

of Spanish speakers using the term hey Spanglish exists for a reason

sometimes there just isn't a good word in the language you're speaking

pero sona negativa negative person just doesn't have the same ring to it

ix English word that does not translate directly into Spanish is mean yes and

I'm not talking about significado or get rid of a seal which mean to mean as in

the meaning of something the definition of something I'm talking about a mean

person a kid who's being mean on the playground at school there's just not

way to say that you can say it's Malo it means he's bad or support Oh Malcolm

ego he acted badly with me or toward me in Mexico we have something called Milan

now which is like bad vibes but again we're not getting those connotations of

being aggressive of attacking someone of purposely hurting people of caring about

no one other than themselves it's not all wrapped in there in a beautiful

package like it is what the word mean and by beautiful I mean terrible the

type of English word that does not translate directly into Spanish is

another one of my favorites it is something we see all the time and it has

become more and more popular over the last few years I'm talking about the

word cringe what are the things that make you cringe no honestly I'd love to

know let me know in the comments how would you describe cringing in a

language where cringe doesn't exist it's quite a task I already tried to do it on

my Spanish video I don't know if I succeeded now in Mexico we have

something called Cynthia Nyonya s which is to feel mmm that I feel like that

gets pretty close to the whole idea of cringing but again I'm pretty sure this

is very very Mexican and just to make things a little bit more exciting we

have cringe worthy of course and cringy nobody wants to be called a cringy on

there right now if you talk about a co-worker and say his presentation was

pretty cringy it's kind of like it embarrassed you right it's that concept

that I was talking to you guys about Dana Hin I you're feeling embarrassed

for him it's definitely along those lines and I feel like awkward and cringe

are also quite related if you're trying to describe the word cringe to one of

your Spanish speaking friends you can say es un sentimiento de pinna valensa

youngest yeah and that's it guys those are 10 words that I really enjoy in

English that are not available to the general public in Spanish aka there's

just not a good translation for them it's just one more reason to celebrate

our language and the beauty of different languages

because believe me there are some words in Spanish that I'm going to be telling

you guys about later that I really wish existed in English you guys already know

Ask us Anything Plus Exclusive Dorm Tour! | Episode #4 | #AskCirque | Cirque du Soleil - Duration: 7:04.

So, give me a 3-2-1.

Go-go-go.

Hey everyone, welcome to episode 4 of Ask Cirque.

The exclusive Cirque du Soleil YouTube series

where we answer your questions.

Have you watched the first three episodes yet?

Catch up now by clicking this button in your top right corner

or check out the description below.

As your questions keep on coming,

we'll need to keep on answering you in these videos.

Who will we meet this week?

Just sit tight and join us in this new episode of:

My name is Esi Acquaah-Harrison

and I'm a singer in Totem.

Well there are two questions there, so I mean,

"How it feels to sing the same song?"

It is the same song, it's like going to any job

and doing the same thing every week or every month.

So you have to, you do have to motivate yourself.

In my case,

I try to consider who may not have seen the show before

and I try to put myself in their shoes and think

if I've paid good money to come out to see a show,

I want to see a good show.

And with that,

I try to just revive from within

and give the best that I can on the day.

Every day is different,

it can never be the same every day

but I try to do the best that I can

from where I am on the day.

How my name is Yves Sheriff,

I'm a scout here at Cirque du Soleil,

specialize for clowns, physical actors,

puppeteers and magicians.

So I'm here to answer some of your questions.

This is coming from the web, different platforms,

few people

Space Jelly, Matús Svitok, Sky Skywp, Jor Parker,

Talia Fay, Kevin Fontyn and Gemini Cat.

They all ask this question,

how old we have to be to perform here at Cirque du Soleil

or to audition

and the answer is 18 years old.

This is the legal age here in Canada

and in most of the countries where we perform.

Still, it does happen that we hire younger people,

children

but it's for very specific needs,

we will usually go through specialized agencies

for actors for example

or if you're lucky to be born in a circus or acrobat family

then sometimes we do hire some child

but it's only for a specific need.

Still, I think it's a great invitation we send you

if whatever is your age to consider to work one day with us

because you will not stay a child,

you will usually grow until 18.

Good luck.

You have to have fun on stage

but you still need to work.

Gotta go, bye!

Well, it's a really interesting and very exciting life.

We're always getting to know new places

and making friends all over the world

- it's great!

I truly feel very fortunate to be working in the big top,

because we might stay in each city for two months or more,

which really gives us the opportunity

to get to know a lot about those cities.

Hello, my name is Xavier Brossard-Ménard.

I'm the artistic scout for singers here at Cirque du Soleil.

We have a question from Brittny Diaz from YouTube

and she asks,

"What do you look for when searching for Cirque singers?"

So Brittny the answer is that you need to be a very versatile singer

so whether it's blues, whether it's jazz, classical, rock, pop

or anything ethnic that is close to your culture,

we are very interested in.

The other thing we need

is that you have a very high technique as a singer

so you can embody all those styles.

And the last thing which is very important

is your stage presence,

how you can convey a message

and an emotional depth to an audience.

Being a clown in Cirque du Soleil

I can only answer

it's awesome.

And especially in this show, Luzia,

where I am the main character

which I tell the story of the show

and that's so great

and I can do my funny stuff

with playing with the audience

and I'm having great great time.

I like and I love physical absurd clowning.

Modern style if that exists

and yeah.

For example, watch the Umbilica Brothers.

It's the magic.

Without a doubt, the magic that we generate

and create is the most important thing.

That complex relationship between artist, audience,

and not forgetting the technical team,

is critical.

These are the three key elements

that conjure up the amazing atmosphere

and emotions which I hope will always be part of my life,

and which make me so very happy.

That's the magic!

You guys ask where we live and if we stay in hotels.

Well a lot of people are under the impression

that touring show artists sleep where the tent is

and while that would be convenient,

we actually do stay in hotels and apartments.

And this is my place here in Sao Paulo.

I'm lucky to have a beautiful apartment with a full kitchen.

This is my bedroom.

And my balcony.

Hey everybody, I'm Carlos,

I'm the percussionist here at Mystère.

So you want to play drums in Cirque du Soleil.

I would say

practice,

practice, practice

and get in touch with your local schools

or your local teachers

and practice some more.

Reading music. Yes I do read music

but I would say

it's good to have it, it's a good tool to have

in the event that,

changes happen here all the time

so it's one thing to have a great memory,

it's easy to rely on

but most of the time if you write it down

you're able to make quick notes,

that always works best.

So in short,

I would say yes, learn how to read.

My best advice for young artist

is to continue to train a lot,

to keep in mind your objective.

If you want to do it, you'll be able to do it,

it's just in your mind.

So as we are all coming from sports

and artistic different middles

and we can all tell you that if you are motivated,

if you train for it you will do it.

So just keep that in mind,

forget about the opinions, negative opinions

and just go for it, go for it, go for it

and then one day it will be your turn to do it.

So…

Oui allô.

Trump Has Now Surpassed Obama In This Key Poll - Duration: 2:33.

Trump

Has Now Surpassed Obama In This Key Poll

One of the most reliable national pollsters, Rasmussen, which only polls Likely Voters

and thus has proved more accurate in many of its political forecasts, currently shows

Trump as having surpassed President Obama in overall approval at the the same point

in his presidency.

Heres Rasmussens summary of its current tracking poll findings:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 48% of Likely

U.S. Voters approve of President Trumps job performance.

Fifty percent (50%) disapprove.

The latest figures include 34% who Strongly Approve of the way Trump is performing and

43% who Strongly Disapprove.

This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -9.

Trumps 48 53 is better than his predecessors approval numbers in the same poll at the same

stage of his presidency.

On February 8, 2010, Rasmussen found Obama at 46 54, 2 points lower in approval and

4 points higher in disapproval than Trump.

Obamas strongly approve/disapprove numbers were also worse: 26 41.

After a tremulous first year for the Trump administration, many in the press have been

predicting a blue wave in November.

Various polls have shown a deep blue polling preference in many swing districts over the

past month.

However, after Trumps State of the Union speech, polls for Republicans have begun to

stabilize.

This week, an aggregation of polling data from Five Thirty Eight showed a five-point

drop in numbers for Democrats nationally since Christmas Day 2017

10 palabras en inglés que NO EXISTEN en español! | Superholly - Duration: 19:40.

Hi, Friends! I'm Holly

And welcome to another English class

Now, as you have probably noticed,

translations, at the end of the day, are approximations.

We're trying to communicate an idea, and pass it from one language to another.

but the problem is that each language has its words, its own way of expressing things

and although most words, you might say, almost directly,

there are others that require a whole series of explanations to get their real meaning across.

and sometimes, it's not even that.

It's just that each language has its holes,

and there is no specific word

that can explain the uses of a word [from another language] or the connotations that go with it.

Today's video is brought to you by squarespace

How a Blizzard Creates Thundersnow - Duration: 5:28.

SciShow is supported by Brilliant.org.

[♪♩INTRO]

If you imagine a blizzard, you probably picture lots of snow, bitter cold, wind biting at

your nose and ears...

But one thing you probably do not imagine is thunder. [THUNDER SFX]

Thunder is usually reserved for summer rainstorms, instead.

But every once in a while, thunder shows up in what seems like the wrong season -- and

when it does, it can be kind of terrifying.

It's known as thundersnow, and it's one of the coolest rare quirks of weather.

It's easy to think of winter snowstorms and summer rainstorms as pretty much the same

thing, it's just at different temperatures and with different kinds of precipitation.

But there's more to it than that.

Before your classic summer storm, sunlight warms the ground and makes the air at ground

level warmer than the air a couple kilometers above it.

But before winter storms, the ground is already pretty cold, and the more indirect sunlight

doesn't warm it very much.

So there aren't the same sorts of big temperature differences between layers in the atmosphere

that there are in the summer.

That might not sound like a big deal, but it makes all the difference in the world,

for both the type of storm and whether there's thunder.

To understand why, it helps to know how summer thunderstorms happen in the first place.

See, warm air can hold more moisture than cold air, so in the summer, water in the environment

tends to evaporate into that heated air near the ground.

That's part of why it feels so sticky and humid outside right before a summer storm.

Then, those pockets of warm, wet air quickly rise into the cooler layers above them.

And ultimately, the water condenses into these tall, dark storm clouds.

Those jostling air pockets also generate lots of wind -- another familiar sign of an impending

thunderstorm.

The wind whips up the water droplets, and ice crystals, and dust in the atmosphere.

And as those different materials rub against each other, electric charge gets separated,

with one part of the cloud becoming more positively charged and the other more negative.

This is known as the triboelectric effect, and it's the same reason you sometimes get

zapped by static electricity.

Eventually, the charges in the cloud get so out-of-balance that a lightning bolt streaks

across the sky to even things out.

That lightning super-heats a column of air, which expands as it's heated and then contracts

back together after the bolt is finished.

And that vibration of the air, finally, gives you thunder.

It's a pretty specific series of events.

You need warm, moist air rising through turbulent winds into cooler, drier air.

And then, that needs to generate the electric charge imbalances that lead to lightning and

thunder.

This happens all the time in the summer, but it usually doesn't happen in the winter.

Because winter storms tend to fail at the first step in this process.

Since the ground generally stays pretty cold in the winter, the air above it stays cold

and dry.

So any rising moisture tends to condense pretty uniformly throughout the sky instead of all

in one place.

Instead of the tall, dark, and handsome clouds that precede a summer storm, you get shorter,

grayer, gloomier ones that cover the whole sky.

And instead of electric charge building up, the charge is dispersed or hardly separated

at all.

So things tend to stay pretty quiet.

But under just the right conditions, there still can be thunder during a winter snowstorm

-- or thundersnow, to be exact.

It sometimes happens near lakes or other large bodies of water where the water warms the

air right above it just like the ground does in the summer.

Thundersnow can also happen during a powerful nor'easter -- a kind of storm along the

Eastern Coast of the U.S.

These tend to have strong winds that churn the atmosphere and can separate enough electric

charge for lightning even in the winter.

Thundersnow can be pretty alarming when it happens, because we're so used to blizzards

just silently raging while we huddle at home with tea or hot chocolate.

Still, it's definitely cool, and it gets meteorologists pretty excited -- there are

even some viral videos to prove it.

But even though we know the kinds of conditions that can cause thundersnow, scientists still

don't quite know how common it actually is.

So they're working on strategies to better figure it out.

Recently, scientists have found that, if winter lightning is likely, the ice crystals in a

cloud will all get tilted in a certain way by the electric forces in an impending strike.

That means radar will bounce off the clouds in the same way, which could help scientists

track and predict thundersnow.

So this winter, they've been looking carefully at weather patterns, radar, and even reports

on Twitter to help us understand if thundersnow is coming to a blizzard near you.

So. You're watching SciShow right now, which means—I mean, you don't want to brag—

but you're probably pretty smart.

Brilliant.org has dozens of quizzes to test your smarts, while teaching you something

about math, about physics, about reasoning...

These matchstick problems are fun because I feel like maybe, in a former life when I thought about

chemistry a lot, I was doing stuff like this and I don't feel like I'm flexing those brain muscles anymore.

It starts out fairly simple, though at first you're like, "I need help with this" and you can show the solution

So you can be like, "Oh, I see, now I understand what you mean."

And then you go to the next one and you're like, "Oh again, this has gotten harder now."

Uh—and then, since it is hard, you feel really good when you figure it out.

And you're like, "Oh, I know the answer to that!"

And then it's like, "correct! 86% of people got this right!"

And then I feel like, "Well, I guess I'm not that special" But also I feel like I'm getting better at a thing.

I think getting better at a thing is like one of the chief joys of being a person.

So if you want to check it out, I think it's fun.

• From revealing text messages to screwing a hobo, the Planet Dolan crew re-enacts some

of the best true stories from our subreddit about the worst ways we found out we no longer

had a romantic partner.

I'm Zaraganba and today I'll be your narrator.

Number 10 was submitted by Jericho-king SaltySquid SaltySquid's girlfriend and her dad went

to see a movie one night.

When it was over, they walked out of the theater and her dad called a cab.

After climbing into the cab, they heard yelling and screaming.

Just then, a man with a gun ran up to their cab.

The man opened the cab door and ordered them to get out.

SaltySquid's girlfriend had her hand in her handbag when the man looked at her before

shooting her in the head.

The man ran off, and three days later SaltySquid got a call from her dad who told him what

happened.

Number 9 was submitted by SammyLox Froggy When she was in middle school, Froggy had

met a girl while on vacation.

They had hit it off and kept in contact, despite the girl living a few states away.

One day, Froggy stopped hearing from the girl.

She kept trying to contact her, and ended up calling her house phone.

A crying woman answered, and Froggy asked what happened, knowing it was the girl's

mom.

She told her that the girl had committed suicide.

She read the note to Froggy, which told her how much she cared about her, but a certain

online group had made her life worse than ever, taking the bullying too far.

She was also bullied in real life and by other online groups.

Froggy has another girlfriend now, but will always miss that girl.

Number 8 was submitted by Nikki_Themadhatter Snewpee

One time, Snewpee was at her friend's house having a lot of fun.

Just then her friend got a text, and since Snewpee was sitting next to her, she saw that

it was her boyfriend.

It was odd because he was a contact on her phone already, and his name had heart emojies

around it.

So Snewpee read the text over her friend's shoulder.

It said, "Hey baby, wanna hang out tonight at my place?

We can Netflix and chill."

Then it had a kiss emojie.

Snewpee asked her friend about it, and she apologized and said that they had made out

multiple times.

That night, Snewpee lost her best friend AND her boyfriend.

Number 7 was submitted by RainbowKitten2017583 Mimi

One time, Mimi and her boyfriend were planning on meeting at her father's pizza joint.

As she waited for him at the pizza joint, her dad came out and said, "Your boyfriend

called.

He said sorry, but he left for France with his girlfriend.

He doesn't love you anymore".

Mimi cried for days.

She was so disappointed with him for cheating on her.

That night, she thought that her boyfriend was going to propose to her in front of her

father.

Number 6 was submitted by pokeanime1111 Andie In 6th grade, Andie she had been dating a

guy, Adam, for a week and really liked him.

In class one day, she was sitting at her table with Adam when a girl went up to him and kissed

him on the lips.

Andie just sat there, looking at them.

Adam turned around and asked, "What are you looking at?"

followed by, "Oh yeah, Andie, we're over."

Andie screamed, "What the hell?!?"

The whole class stared at them.

The teacher went over and asked what was wrong.

Andie didn't want her to know that she and Adam had dated, so Andie said that he "touched"

her.

Adam ended up getting sent to the office, and was suspended for a week.

Number 5 was submitted by BossBliss1234_4321 Ramona

It was Valentine's Day, and the one-year anniversary of when Ramona's boyfriend first asked her

out.

He prepared breakfast in bed for her with a note.

It was a map for a scavenger hunt.

She thought it was romantic of him to do that, so she decided to do it.

After a few hours of pointless riddles and puzzles, Ramona finally came to the final

stop.

It was the park where they had their first kiss.

She thought it was very sweet until she saw in big bold red letters, "We're over!

Yay!"

Since then, whenever they see each other, they don't talk.

Number 4 was submitted by michaeldiamente Hellbent

Hellbent had a really serious girlfriend during his freshman year of college.

She was the football cheerleading captain.

He felt like the king of the campus for getting her but, after a few months, she started acted

strange around him.

So in December before they went home for holiday break, Hellbent planned a "Naughty Surprise."

He walked into his dorm – where she was supposed to be studying – wearing only his

coat and a Christmas bow on his... member.

He called her name and, when she came into the kitchen with just her underwear on, Hellbent

dropped his coat and danced "sexy" around the room.

Then, to his surprise, the quarterback of his football team came out in just his underwear.

As soon as he saw the quarterback, the bow fell off his "member" and was left butt-naked

, knowing she had been two-timing him.

Hellbent quickly put his coat back on, threw the bow in the trash and left.

Number 3 was submitted by Hope_for_freedom1331 Pandora

Pandora once dated a guy for about 3 years.

Since she had a job and was going to school, she didn't give him a lot of attention.

In return, he would be really snarky at her.

One night, after a 12-hour shift, Pandora was walking home when she heard sounds coming

from the back alley.

When she walked over to see what was going on, she saw her boyfriend having sex with

a hobo!

Pandora screamed, "WHAT THE HELL?!?"

They stopped, and her boyfriend grabbed his stuff and ran away ass-naked.

Later that night, she found her boyfriend, who told her he was gay and did not love her

anymore.

She slapped him across the face and walked off.

Number 2 was submitted by PoisonedIvysaur Pringle

Pringle dated a woman for about 3 months.

It was going good – they didn't fight much and were just all around chill.

One day, she said she was pregnant.

Pringle freaked out because they always used protection.

A few months later, he saw the ultrasound and it had a big head like her housemate.

He laughed and told her to get him a DNA test.

He agreed to pay the bills if it was his.

The kid came out, and it looked nothing like Pringle and his girlfriend.

He laughed and called her a cheating whore.

They haven't spoken since.

Movies That Only Make Sense If You Follow The Fan Theories - Duration: 5:28.

Some movies ask a little bit more of the audience than others.

It's easy to mindlessly enjoy the latest big-budget explosion-fest, but that doesn't work as well

with films that require real brain power.

In some cases, unconventional narrative structures and gaping plot holes require audiences to

help piece together the puzzle after the credits roll.

In the case of these films, it's those fan theories that truly provide the missing links.

Grease's flying car

Grease doesn't exactly thrive on realism; people in the '50s didn't really burst into

song while fixing up hot rods and hosting slumber parties.

That's strange enough, but by the end of the film, things get even weirder when Danny and

Sandy hop into a shining red convertible and ride into the clouds.

Viewers might be able to suspend disbelief that all these 20- and 30-something actors

were still in high school, but flying cars at the fair?

No way.

But if you listen closely, there might be a more realistic explanation for all of the

movie's eccentricities: Sandy isn't actually alive.

In moment of their lyrical recap of their supposed summer love story, Danny tell us:

"I saved her life.

She nearly drowned."

But what if he didn't save her life after all and this is all just some elaborate fever

dream Sandy's having before she reaches the other side?

It's not hard to believe that she'd invent some crazy love story in her oxygen-deprived

mind before passing over to the great beyond, with the climax being her literal ascent into

heaven.

The theory doesn't just explain Grease; it also helps shed some light on its ill-advised

sequel.

After all, if Grease is a happy dream, then Grease 2 is most likely a nightmare—at least

for anyone who's watching it.

The Goonies' country club cover up

As classic as The Goonies is, it's hard to believe that the architects of Astoria, Oregon

didn't happen upon all those man-made underground tunnels and treasure when they were building

the town.

Sure, it makes for a good adventure for the kiddos who discover them during their quest

to save the city from greedy developers, but they couldn't be the first people in a hundred

years to set foot in there, right?

But one theory posits that the wealthy real estate developers who want to take over know

about the treasure below… and they're actively plundering One-Eyed Willie's stash in order

to fund their decadent lifestyle.

The country club isn't really the end goal.

It's a cover-up, designed to keep the underground treasure trove safe.

Willy Wonka's secret ingredient

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory might end on a high note, but for most, the Golden

Ticket is no prize at all.

Throughout the film, four of the five children who've been invited to tour the factory wind

up gone, possibly disfigured, and never heard from again, as their parents are carted away

by creepy rhyming minions.

"The squeezing!

She has to be squeezed immediately before she explodes!"

So, what if Wonka is actually just a serial child-abductor who relies on the flesh of

these kids to make his recipes complete?

After all, he does lead these little ones through rooms designed to exploit their specific

weaknesses.

The Oompa-loompas have complex pre-planned song and dance routines that reference individual

children by name.

Not to mention, all of the pipes in the Chocolate Factory are suspiciously child-sized.

If children are the secret ingredient in Wonka's candy, the reason Charlie survives isn't because

he's such a great kid—it's because he's the only one desperate enough to continue

Wonka's work, especially now that he's seen exactly what it takes to lure his peers to

their sugar-coated doom.

No aliens allowed

After The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, director and writer M. Night Shyamalan became famous

for his films' clever plot twists, but his next directorial outing, Signs, failed to

impress a lot of fans.

For most of the film, Signs is about a former pastor who struggles with his faith while

defending his family against invading aliens.

As a thriller, Signs is well-paced and exciting—until the twist.

As it turns out, Signs' aliens can be defeated by water, leaving the audience to wonder why

a supposedly intelligent lifeform would try to conquer a planet that's 71 percent covered

by the stuff.

Unless, as some fans argue, the aliens aren't aliens at all.

They're demons.

Think about it.

Signs' various characters interpret the creatures' true identities in different ways -- to the

sheriff, they're just mischievous kids, while an officer in the Army thinks they're an invading

military force.

But the "aliens" don't have any technology—in fact, they can't even open doors.

As such, the creatures aren't weak to water.

They're weak to holy water.

Mel Gibson's daughter, who has the irritating habit of leaving half-empty glasses of water

scattered around the house, is described at various points as an angel.

That might be literal.

Since she poured it, the water that she leaves lying around is blessed, and provides the

key to the demons' destruction.

Thematically, demons make a lot more sense than aliens since the main character arc is

about a spiritual reawakening, which makes the movie so much more than just sci-fi schlock.

Someone else's totem

The ending of Inception will be the topic of debate for decades to come.

Throughout the film, a corporate spy named Cobb appears to use a spinning top in order

to separate fiction from reality.

If the top falls over, it means that Cobb is in the real world.

If the totem spins forever, he's dreaming.

At the end of the movie, Cobb spins the top, but wanders away before he sees if it falls

or not.

Most people assume that this means that Inception's ending is ambiguous—but maybe it's not.

Maybe his totem isn't the top but his wedding ring, which he's always wearing in the dream

world, but never in the real one.

After all, a totem is supposed to be personal and never shared, and Cobb never explicitly

says the top is his totem.

Both were also given to him by his late wife.

He doesn't appear to be wearing his ring in the film's last scene, so if you're a sucker

for happy endings, this might just be the fan theory for you.

Democrats Think They Already Have The 2018 Midterms In The Bag - Duration: 2:03.

Democrats Think They Already Have The 2018 Midterms In The Bag – They Don't

Turn on any liberal news channel and you'll hear experts talking about how a blue wave

is coming and Democrats are going to retake the House, maybe even the Senate.

They're basing this on historical models but this year is different.

In 2010 and 2014, people were angry at Democrats for passing Obamacare.

Now, the only major piece of legislation which has passed is a massive tax cut.

There are other factors in play as well.

Democrats ought to worry about the midterm elections

The collapse of Democrats' popularity on the much-ballyhooed generic ballot foreshadows

tough midterm elections for them in November.

Until this week, pundits nearly everywhere favored Democrats to win – and for good

reason.

Historically, midterm election victories have been afforded to the party that does not control

the White House.

That's a natural result of the checks and balances established by our Founding Fathers.

Generic ballot polling is generally thought to be the best predictor of the mood of the

electorate during a midterm season.

Such polls usually ask the question: "If the election were held today, would you vote

for a Democrat or Republican for Congress?"

The latest responses are very troubling for Democrats.

New polling shows that Democrats have lost their recent 15-point lead over Republicans,

dropping to only a two-point lead for a critical election they had hoped to paint as a referendum

on President Trump and writ large, Republicans.

However, historically speaking, the news is more daunting for Democrats.

Compared to where they stood in the 2014 midterm elections, Democrats are actually faring worse

at this point than they were then.

Liberals may be in for another huge disappointment this fall.

what do you think about this?

The Whole Saga of the Supercontinents - Duration: 9:18.

By now, you've surely picked up on the idea that the study of natural history is basically

the study of how the world has changed.

The study of how we all got here.

And of course, the world continues to change, all the time.

I mean, literally.

I'm not just talking about how life adapts, or how the climate is changing.

I mean the planet itself, as an object, is in a constant state of flux -- because the ground beneath

your feet is always moving.

So, the place where you are right now was not always … there.

For example, if you're watching me in California right now, then about 500 million years ago,

the place that you currently think of as "here" was actually on the equator … and it was

underwater.

Likewise, if you're in the UK, then your "here" was almost at the South Pole.

And your next door neighbor was Africa.

We know all of this thanks to paleogeography, the study of how the physical face of

Earth has transformed over time.

And it's this movement of the continents that has driven many of the ma jor revolutions

in life's history -- its advances and its setbacks, its explosions of life and its extinction

events.

So, if natural history is the study of how we got here, then you also have to understand

how here got here.

If you wanna know how your "here" got to be where it is, you first have to know

where land comes from, and how it behaves.

And for a long time, we just didn't know.

The idea that the continents could actually move was first proposed in 1912, by German

scientist Alfred Wegener.

He spent years traveling the world, collecting geological and fossil evidence to argue that

all of the continents were once connected.

Wegener was the first to propose the idea of continental drift -- and the notion was

so outlandish at the time that it basically cost him his career.

And part of why no one accepted Wegener's theory was that no one in his day had ever

seen the bottom of the ocean.

Until the mid-20th century, most scientists assumed that the seafloor was basically featureless,

like a giant wading pool.

But in the 1950s and 60s, pioneering researchers like Marie Tharp and Bruce Heezen began studying

the bottom of the ocean.

And they found that there was an enormous mountain range running through the middle

of the Atlantic.

Eventually, more of these undersea mountain ranges, called mid-ocean ridges, were found

in all the world's oceans, and they all were volcanically active.

These ridges, it turned out, are where the seafloor is made.

Geologists realized that these mid-ocean volcanoes are actively creating the rocky material of

the seafloor and spreading it outward, in a process called seafloor spreading.

But what the sea gives, it also takes away.

Far from these ridges, at the edges of continents, researchers also found huge trenches.

And here, the dense rocks of the seafloor dive below the lighter rocks of the continents,

in a process called subduction.

So the denser, heavier crust that makes up the seafloor -- known as the oceanic crust

-- moves under the lighter landmasses, known as the continental crust, just a few centimeters

at a time.

And as the oceanic crust sinks back into Earth's interior, it begins to melt and mix with the

mantle.

So, seafloor spreading and subduction are the two primary mechanisms behind plate tectonics

-- the theory of how giant chunks of Earth's crust, called plates, move around the surface.

And together, they explain what Alfred Wegener never could -- they show us HOW the continents

of our planet come together and break apart.

But Wegener was right -- throughout the planet's history, land masses have been joining together

to form supercontinents, only to break up again millions of years later.

Supercontinents begin to separate when the mantle that's churning around beneath them

starts to change -- like, in direction, or temperature, or intensity.

These kinds of changes, we think, can cause plates that were once pushed together, to

gradually spread apart.

When plates separate, they first create a rift valley, like the Great Rift Valley in

Africa.

Then, as they keep spreading apart, they can form narrow seas, which is how the Red Sea

came to be.

Eventually, these gaps can open up to become a whole new ocean -- that's actually how

the Atlantic Ocean formed.

This whole process of continents coming together and splitting apart is known as the supercontinent

cycle, and IT is what has changed the face of Earth over the eons.

Now, you've probably heard of Pangaea, the landmass that contained almost all of Earth's

dry land about a quarter billion years ago.

For a long time, experts thought it was the world's first supercontinent.

But today we know it wasn't the first.

And it won't be the last!

One of the earliest supercontinents that scientists have evidence for is called Kenorland.

It existed 2.7 to 2.5 billion years ago, toward the very end of the Archaean Eon.

It was made of continental crust that would eventually become parts of North America and

Africa.

And even though we call it a supercontinent, Kenorland actually wasn't much bigger than

Australia is today.

Life on Earth at the time of Kenorland was probably mostly single-celled, like the photosynthetic

cyanobacteria that were starting to add oxygen to the atmosphere.

Then, 700 million years after Kenorland spread apart, another supercontinent began to form

called Nuna, or Columbia depending who you ask.

The northern reaches of Nuna included land that would eventually become North America

and Antarctica.

And in the south were the cores of South America and Africa.

Nuna existed from 1.8 to 1.4 billion years ago, in the middle of the Proterozoic Eon.

And it's here where we find fossils of the earliest plant-like organisms, red algae,

which lived in a shallow sea in what's now India.

Nuna broke apart, but the fragments came back together about 100 million years later.

This new continent, called Rodinia, was the first supercontinent that geologists found

had existed before Pangaea.

And geologists were able to reconstruct Rodinia after they noticed that Labrador on Canada's

east coast fit quite nicely into the west coast of South America.

Rodinia broke apart about 900 million years ago, and shortly after that, the world was

plunged into another long ice age.

About 650 million years ago, the next supercontinent, called Pannotia, came together.

And here the first animals are found in the fossil record, living in coastal waters from

the poles to the equator.

First came the mysterious Ediacaran fauna, and then the animals that mark the Cambrian

Explosion.

Animals probably didn't live on Pannotia, though, because no fossils have been found

in terrestrial rocks from that time.

But the land wasn't lifeless -- it had likely been colonized by pioneering bacteria, algae,

and then, the fungi!

After Pannotia broke up, about 550 million years ago, the continents began looking more

like the world we recognize.

470 million years ago, in the Ordovician Period, the first plants began to live on land.

The earliest plant fossils have been found in South America, which was part of the continent

of Gondwana.

Then, 420 million years ago, in the late Silurian, the first millipedes crawled through the undergrowth

on a separate continent just north of Gondwana.

And it's known by the catchy portmanteau Euramerica, because it contained parts of both North America

and Europe.

Euramerica is also where the earliest fossils of insects have been found, about 20 million

years later.

Then, toward the end of the Devonian Period, 365 million years ago, the first amphibians

left the swamps to explore the ancient forests that would later form the coal deposits

of Europe and North America.

And the earliest amniotes, vertebrates that lay shelled eggs on land, showed up 310 million

years ago, right before the formation of the most famous and most recent supercontinent,

Pangaea.

Pangaea began to form 300 million years ago, at the end of the Carboniferous, when North

America and Eurasia, together known as Laurasia, collided with Gondwana.

And, because there were no oceans in their way, animals were free to roam all over Pangaea,

which is why similar species are found in areas all over the world in this time.

But life there wasn't exactly a picnic.

Because Pangea was so incredibly huge, moisture from the oceans couldn't reach the interior,

which made most inland regions pretty much uninhabitable.

And of course, making things even less picnicky were ... two really terrible mass extinctions.

First was the Permian-Triassic extinction 252 million years ago -- aka the Great Dying.

It was probably caused by a series of massive volcanic eruptions from fissures in Pangea

in what's now Siberia.

These eruptions likely set coalfields on fire and dumped massive amounts of CO2 into the

atmosphere and oceans.

The super-hot air and super-acidic rain and seas that followed killed almost everything.

Fifty million years later, the Triassic came to a close with another mass extinction, wiping

out a huge number of crocodile and mammal relatives.

This too seems to have been caused by volcanic activity, only this time as North America

started to break away from the rest of Pangaea.

But among the survivors were the dinosaurs, and as Pangaea broke apart, dinosaurs on different

continents became isolated and developed into vastly different forms.

The semi-aquatic spinosaurids, for example, lived on the remnants of Gondwana.

Meanwhile, horned dinosaurs like Triceratops almost all lived in North America.

Then, after the K-Pg Extinction wiped out the non-avian dinosaurs 66 million years ago,

it was mammals' turn.

Living on isolated continents like the dinosaurs once did, they too diversified into lots of

different and weird forms.

Finally, those isolated continents came into contact again in the last 5 to 10 million

years, allowing annimals to cross newly formed land bridges into new environments

ones we can recognize pretty well today.

But of course, things keep moving today, just like they always have -- at a rate of about

2.5 centimeters a year in fact

And, scientists can predict how the world might look in, say, 50 million years, based

on how fast the continents are moving, and in which direction.

So, what will future Earth look like?

Well, North and South America are moving west, as the Atlantic Ocean continues to grow.

Africa is moving north and will collide with Europe, probably forming a huge mountainous

plateau, kind of like the Himalayas, where the Mediterranean Sea is now.

Australia's also moving north, and will eventually smash into the Indonesian archipelago.

But beyond the next 50 million years or so, the future becomes harder for us to see.

One theory, called Pangaea Ultima, proposes that a subduction zone will form off the east

coast of the Americas, closing off the Atlantic and forming another supercontinent like Pangaea

in about 250 million years.

Another theory, called Amasia, supposes that the Atlantic will keep getting bigger, and

that North America will join Europe and Asia at the North Pole.

And a third theory, called Novopangaea, envisions a future Earth that's similar to Amasia

but with the Pacific Ocean closed off, as Australia and Antarctica move into the former

ocean basin.

By then, of course -- a quarter billion years from now -- our descendents and the other

descendants of the modern world, will have evolved and diversified to occupy a planet

that looks totally different.

But they'll be along for the same ride that we're on today, as forces deep within the

Earth cause our idea of "here" to slowly drift, just as it has for billions of years.

You and I have been through a lot together today, so I appreciate you sticking around

Hopefully you're going to find things in which you can connect with your

learning materials, with your activities, with your classmates, and with your teachers, no

matter what kind of device you're using.

Whether you're on your laptop, your phone, your tablet.

One of the things I'm really excited about is just the opportunity to work with Ashford

to continue to make improvements to Canvas, to make it a better experience for you.

So thank you very much, and let's figure out ways to make the most of this educational

opportunity together.
