Hi and welcome again to Revientor Reborn, this is DCS and we are in the planner because I want to talk about the ADF navigation with the F86 Sabre
I am going to take off from here, and the target will be arrive to one of this airbases,
we are going to suppose in this part there is a storm or something, and this kind of country do not allow to fly over them,
I will perform this route, look, there is no waypoint system in the f86 cockpit, we´ll go to this ndb over here, and then we switch to the next one, and the aribase one.
we have to work with the briefing, paper and pencil, use the ruler an write, 183 heading after take off, once this ndb heading 098 I will skip the wp2
when arrived to the next ndb, will get heading 156 no distanced needed
with this when switching the channels this will improve own navigation
now in the cockpit ,now with f10 the map do not give us the ndb of the airfields, but there is a file of jyno berlanis DCS beacon map,
that map give the morse code of each beacon, I don't know what is the morse code of AL, AL is dot line space dor line dot dot
in that map are all de adf stations... in he base also not like now in the F10 view...
we can only use khz not mhz with this system
to test the system on the runway i have one of the beacons in this base but the are the same frequencies in both sided of the runway then I will get the info of the closest one
let´s start
here is the console, it´s off, have several options, in this case
this system works with this instrument, the compass, that narrow will point where to go, not the heading you have to put the needle on the top
because in briefing _I tol ones takeoff take 163 heading I can set it up now
there
the system itself,
in comp will work with that instrument in auto mode, and, loop and cont, I don´t know hot to make it work
I had been testing and nothing works well
in ant I am not sure of the function, but in loop, there is this knob, with that one you will move the antenna manually to get the strongest signal,
in case the auto mode failure, you will have to work with this, it works, but there is no way to know if you set the right heading
I will teach you the basic way to operate this panel
the cont mode the manual say is not implemented but the manual is not final version also....
loop and antenna must work in some way but I donñt know....
first activate the system and lower the volume
that sound is because there is no good signal
looks there is no signal in this band, let´s change it, and get some signal
the I get some reception, I know it because there is no static, the morse code is listening, and
this gauge is max to the right, that is the quality or streig of the signal
you can see now is not full quality, you can play a little with the tuning and get the max quality of that signal
here the light for the dials, low and hi intensity, the loop is manually move the antenna,
you can using loop, move the antenna as I will show to you in the instrument
the system is not 100% precise, for that the gauge can jump a few degrees eventually
look, in ant mode you can not move the gauge, normal, and in loop mode, I can move the antenna and the gauge then,
but there are no light, the audio is the same, the signal quality is the same....
how I can know what is the correct heading?????
let´s keep the compass mode that is the mode that works and hope no one destroy the system with a missile
let´s set the first ADF to test the system, on this airbase, 583Mhz, wait I have to finish to explain the panel, volume is volume xd, now in CW or voice mode you can change the way the sound works, you need voice to hear the morse
it a kind of continuous wave of something is emitting
and again, in look I can not get anything!!!!!!!!
look, there is the antenna, in loop mode I move the antenna and go back to the "know" position and... nothing
remember, to use this system we need the generator on, if you are in low rpms the generator is off and the adf will not work
50% rpm
let set this runway adf, 583, first select the band, in voce, now with the dial, it easy, in this case
I will teach you how the real pilot does and how the DCS pilot will do, (at the end of the video)
the real pilot will look the dial, some match 520 to 630 are 110/2= 55 the mid line is 575, then so more of that mid line
set the line, some volume, and add get the first signal, look the quality is not good then this can not be, the estation is less than a 1km of me......
must be this one, and now is time to hear the morse code
ok that was: - . - . -
that is the ADB behind me
the linos maps is great for that
the one in front is: - . . - .
I do not need to know the morse code, only a paper with the code that I need to hear
it easy know if dot or line xD
now the instrument, ad of course is pointing behind me, all matches
done, now I have to set the navigation one, the system is ok, for for the good one
is 353Mhz, look for the band, time to search, in this case the maths are also easy to do, in other like 900Mhz the dial is a pain in the ass
some math calculation....
look there are only a few of them in this band, look there are 3 almos together...
check the instrument, ok with the compass looks good, because to get my initial heading I have to turn 40º on the right like the compass say, and mach with my hsi
now the morse... it better hear first the morse anyway
must be . - . - . .
that means AL, perfect!!!!
the ADF navigation is all the time the same
now in the air, you can see sometimes the gauge jump, because it´s not a perfect system
also say, if you are lost, you can use this system to triangulate your position in a map
if you know where the emitter is in the map, and using the instrument you can make a line where you are, and then use some visual help, like a lake or mountains
I can show to you in the map, heading 335, as you can see I already have a error of calculation
and is very big error if you do not have a particular landmark,
but you can improve this system, using other ADF, and make a triangulation
with the other station and the new heading, where the lines are crossed you must be over there
let me be in cockpit because the plane is drifting...
sometimes the signal get lost for a second but the system in DCS is almost perfect and you can get the signal 1000000 nm away
be careful that the antenna if you are turning, the antenna moves and when you thing you are lined and go back to level wing, the antenna move again and that make you need the
now with the new heading aI almost get the good line and I can try to triangulate my position
speeding up the sim, to see the way the needle move when you are near the adf, be carefull when you fly high and hi speed- because the wings are asymmetrical and the wave sound around 0.85 mach can result in a turning plane in one direction, very annoying
in theory it´s kind of random turning left or right, but in the whole flight must be the same side, in other fly you are in other plane and could be in the other direction
thanks to this explication we lost how to know when you overfly the station, easy, because you see the needle moving fast to one side until get the 6 position
once you see that behaviour you know your next heading, set that heading and then syntonice the next station
now I will teach you how as DCS pilot you can set the compass, is kind of cheat, the frequency is 520Mhz, first set the band,
mith shift + K you get the kneeboard, in this version is bugged the kneeboard, but you can see the radio ADF in the down part
there is, you know exactly your frequency, just move the dial,
now we have a digital number really easy and DCS way
there is the instrument pointing 12 oclock, and you do not need even heard the morse code
this must be DF = - . . . . - .
perfect, now you can use your way, the cheat of shift + K
this is DCs and you will use always the easy way to do it , but loose all the magic of this plane
lets fly some left...
let´s try to see the change of this station
see the instrument, that small jumps do not take care of that, look I am not in transonic flight, and the plane is rolling left
taking out some speed and board open,
some trim and more power, the instrument is pointing to the right,
I do not like transonic flight with this plane is a pain in the ass
look the needle is going to the left, faster and faster, we are almost there,
I hate lateral trim also in this plane , when I do it once I have to do it all over the flight
there you can see the needle
and time to go for the next heading, we have the base in visual,
not set the frequency, 342, this range the kneeboard and go for it
check the instrument and ready
that is the way to use the ADF navigation,. DCS mode and real pilot mode
for those who do not see the video until the end, thanks for only know the real pilot mode, you loose the easy one xD lol
if all this was covered with clouds, one you are over the ADF you can do a circular patter to loose altitude for example,
or course you have to listening the radio to know if someone is landing,
this plane have no ILS, then you have to follow the charts of the airport to land
there are several ways to do it, the problem if there are mountains or not,
in this airport is possible because the mountains are really far away
you can use the keyboard to overview the airport or what ever
I hope you liked the tutorial, do not forget to subscribe, and comment below , bye bye and be happy
