How to be MORE consistent on YouTube - 3 Tips to improve Consistency - Duration: 8:01.

what's up Shenanigans, John here and I am back today to talk to you about

consistency it's no wonder that people say consistency is king on YouTube

because it's one of the more important things you need to do to be successful

on YouTube so today we're gonna talk about three things I want you to

consider when it comes to consistency to be honest it's one of the things I

struggle with and I don't think I'm alone in that that's why YouTube is so

hard because consistency is so important but yet it is hard so when it comes to

any goals you and I are responsible for our own success we're responsible for

our motivation we're responsible for getting ourselves to the next level

we're responsible for moving ourselves forward so I'll ask you a couple simple

questions what are you doing right now what are you doing today

to move yourself forward towards your goal are you being passive about it are

you hoping that the successes can happen organically that you're just gonna get

lucky with one video and that will be it where are you leaning forward into this

this struggle that we are all trying to overcome on YouTube which is

consistently trying to be successful are we leaning into it are we planning every

single day what we're gonna be doing for the next day and the day after that

are we taking those steps those small victories every single day to get to the

point where we need to be we have to work hard at this to be successful it's

not gonna come easy for the majority of us so what you want to be tomorrow

you're gonna have to work extremely hard today to get to that so this is my first

I guess suggestion to you and this is the one that gets me going every single

day is what are you doing right now what are you doing get moving get down here

record a video go through the topics that you've set aside what are you doing

today what are you setting what goals are you

setting today to help you get to that next step what are you doing right now

ten minutes from now 20 minutes from now an hour from now what are you doing to

get yourself to that point because if you don't start moving it's not gonna

happen and once you start getting that momentum

going forward those little small wins of successful triumphs over top of the just

getting up off the couch and getting downstairs are writing the script or

writing whatever topic you're gonna do filming the video editing the video all

those little successes that you you get under your belt that you achieve you

overcome are gonna get you to that goal so get going right now well not right

now after the video so right after this video start writing down what you go

what do you want to achieve you know today tomorrow next week a year from now

three years from now start planning that out right after this video so those

small wins there's little successes that you build over time help you build

momentum and that helps build consistency and to have consistency you

have to have a schedule and that's the second part of what I want to talk to

you about today setting a schedule so this schedule is gonna help you block

off time it's gonna help you mentally compartmentalize what you need to do at

that time because if you don't it makes it just that much easier to push it off

a guy let's do it later I'll just do it later I'll just do it later I know cuz I

struggle with this every single day and I have for three years and when I find

the solution to this I will come to you and I will tell you exactly what it is

but I know for a fact that setting a schedule has helped me be more

consistent way more consistent than I ever have been before I was tuning in

schedule so depending on the type of content you have that will help dictate

the kind of schedule you can set now this is one of the problems that I've

run into as a vlogger everything that I watch I brought Roberto and all those

guys they talked about filming and batch filming and things like that but that's

more for this talking head videos that topical type content when you're a

family vlogger or vlogger it's very hard to plan that out now you kind of

complain when you're gonna go someplace there are certain things you can do and

so I want to discuss with you and try to pass off some the ideas and things that

I've done and I'm very interested in what you vloggers have to say about this

consistency part and planning and batch filming and things like that now if

you're somebody who does these talking head type videos or videos that you can

plan topics and shoot them you can batch those you can film several of those over

time and it will help you build a schedule and you can release them over

time but it's one a week that's really easy you shoot four you got months with

the content but when you're a vlogger that's extremely hard and the only way

that I found that can batching kind of content especially I can't daily vlog

it's very hard for me to daily vlog because especially during school and

work and things like that it's very hard for me to film with such a little bit of

time during the week so what I'll do is on the weekend I'll film you know two or

three vlogs then I can release those third in the week now this will always

work but it really helps me when I know that I have a very busy week coming up

now I know a lot of loggers out there already do that especially family

vloggers it's a little harder to do that kind of stuff but it will help you to

have kind of a theme day like a Monday Tuesday Wednesday or Monday when

Friday or Monday and Friday type thing or just on Saturday Sunday how every

break up your schedule will help you will help dictate how you kind of

compartmentalize and batch the types of videos that you want to do so for

example what I just brought up if I were to batch at least two vlogs during the

weekend release those during the week I can film during the week and then again

maybe on Saturday edit a couple more videos and I can kind of build up kind

of this bank of videos one of the issues I've run into when I kind of film ahead

if I don't film something that's evergreen which means it's not around a

topic that's you know say st. Patrick's Day I shoot a st. Patrick's Day video

and I release it a month later I've kind of I found that that kind of problematic

it's kind of confusing to people and I don't want to confuse them and then I

run into the emotional part of it like I don't want to lose this footage but now

I'll release it and this doesn't do really well especially since I'm

releasing it so late but if you can try to find videos that are like you know

we've let my family we do a lot of unboxing with toys and I'll do kind of

tech reviews and these talking head videos that helps me kind of fill the

gap when I can't film regular family vlogs like the saying says your mileage

may vary you need to do what you need to do

what's best for you in your schedule so settings schedule extremely important

I'm trying to stay on track whether you're trying to lose weight whether

you're trying to do anything trying to schedule time block time aside for you

to do those things is extremely important to success one of the things

I've done that has really helped me speed up vlogging in the content that we

create is setting topics aside and planning the mountain scripting amount

kind of high level scripting I mean I don't want to write a complete narrative

of what I'm gonna say is that this hurt soon I think I've said that in the past

but setting out what you're gonna do in advance even in vlogging that helped I

know that I've talked to you guys before that when vlogging I shoot to edit and

what that means is when I'm filming a certain scenario I know exactly the

footage that I want to shoot and how I want to put it together is when I'm

shooting b-roll I know I'm gonna implement that in the video I do this

because I used to shoot 30 40 50 minutes worth of video and I'd only use 10

minutes of it that's not efficient because I'd have to watch 30 40 50

minutes of footage and spending time editing that this wastes time that's

time that I'm not editing or shooting more things or living life I don't want

to waste a bunch of time watching 50 minutes worth of stuff outtakes and all

that it's just not efficient use of my time

I shoot a vlog I really don't have a lot of footage that's not used and believe

it or not that used to be the complete opposite I used to spend three and four

hours editing an hour worth of video and it was just too much so the third thing

is getting a formula to how you want to shoot your videos whether it be vlogs

talking head video tech reviews you're gonna have to plan it you're gonna do

that pre-production so you don't come down and film and just be kind of lost

and ramble on you don't want to have a bunch of footage to edit so if you're

very succinct and you're very focused on what you want to get done and what you

want to say you can really really tighten up that editing window that you

have I mean if you come down and shoot twelve minutes worth of video and error

that down to eight or nine minutes maybe ten minutes worth of actual footage

you've saved a lot of time didn't know if you were gonna come down and shoot

you know thirty minutes worth of rambling and you have to watch that

thirty minutes and then boil it down to ten minutes you've wasted twenty minutes

worth of your time all right guys this you know this isn't art it's not a

science what works for me is not gonna work for you it may not work for anyone

but right now I've learned that if I just get moving if I set a schedule and

if I plan out my videos this helps me tremendously just focus my time and

really block off what I need to do to be successful and meet the goals that I

have for myself in this channel if you enjoyed this video make sure you hit

that thumbs up and if you aren't subscribed please consider doing so and

as always guys thank you so much for watching and until next time see ya
