Waching daily Feb 6 2018

American Vice-President Mike Pence will be in Pyeongchang to head the U.S. delegation

for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

However, he brings a stern message to North Korea regardless of its peaceful participation

at the Games... that Washington will not back down on pressuring the regime.

Kwon Jang-ho tells us more.

After a closed-door meeting with President Donald Trump, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence

set off on a five-day trip to Japan and South Korea.

He'll arrive in Tokyo on Tuesday, where he'll meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe the following

day -- they're expected to talk about North Korea, and what more they can do to up the

pressure on the regime.

He'll then set off to Korea on Thursday... in time for Friday's opening ceremony of the

PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

However, the White House has stressed that his role in Pyeongchang will not be just ceremonial.

A White House official on Monday said "the vice president will take every chance to highlight

the reality of what is happening in North Korea."

Another White House aide said Pence will make sure that North Korea does not 'hijack' the

sporting event for its own propaganda purposes.

This point will be further driven home as Pence will be accompanied at the opening ceremony

by Fred Warmbier, the father of Otto Warmbier, the U.S. student who died last year shortly

after being released from North Korean captivity.

The Warmbier family were also special guests at Trump's State of the Union address last

week, where the President attacked North Korea's human rights abuses.

Pence will meet with President Moon Jae-in during his visit, but there will also be much

attention on whether there will be any interaction with North Korean officials.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who spoke with the Vice President before he left,

said on Monday that they will see what happens.

Yamaha RIVAGE: Using the new Rupert Neve Designs plug-in Portico 5045 - Duration: 3:23.

Hi, I'd give you a quick tour of a pretty exciting new plugin for the RIVAGE Series consoles.

It comes along with version 2.

That is the Rupert Neve Designs Portico 5045, also known as the Primary Source Enhancer.

A lot of guys who've been using this box already refer to it as the magic box.

In North America we've distributed this analog box for Rupert Neve Designs for some time

and it's really super successful. It's on a lot of big tours. It's used in

houses of worship and corporate AV events, and you can also use it for playback.

So basically what this box does is it knows the difference between my mic, in this case,

and leakage coming into my mic from background sounds.

In a minute I'll introduce some background sounds, basically background crowd noise

and then I'll dial it out and you'll hear just what it does.

Let me show you what the knobs do. There's only a few of them.

It's very very simple to use.

The Process Engage button here is basically just a bypass.

Even if you bypass the box you will get the warmth of the Rupert Neve Designs transformer.

The time constant. These are predetermined times of how fast the processing will work.

This is a dynamic device. It doesn't use filters so you still have to EQ your system and your microphones,

but dynamically it will eliminate the background.

Or certainly, it will minimize it. RMS and PEAK changes the value of the TIME CONSTANT settings.

Threshold. Pretty obvious when you cross the threshold it's going to start to engage.

And the depth knob is that once it does cross the threshold, how much processing will it do?

That's the depth knob, you can dial it in, and then the PROCESS ACTIVE LED here shows us when we've crossed that threshold.

So let me introduce some background sounds. We've got some crowd noise here.

You can hear. Now it sounds like I'm in a crowded room. Imagine how this would not be ideal to put through a PA.

But if we simply come in and start to dial that out you can still hear me just fine.

I've just eliminated about 6 dB of that leakage.

Now I can do more, but for the moment I'll just be quiet and let you hear this and then

I'll bypass the insert so you get a sense of just how effective this is.

So quite a big difference right?

And I can dial out more.

So it's really about how much you need to dial out for your situation, whether it's

an acoustic guitar and you need more level in your monitors, maybe you've got a lot of leakage into a lead vocal mic,

or you've got a loud band. Or background vocals, where they're standing

in front of a drum set or horn section or something.

We put this on a lot of referee mics in American football games.

We've got a lot more gain before feedback, you get more clarity because you're not hearing

that energy being put back into the PA. It's designed by our team, the same folks

that did SILK and TEXTURE knobs, the transformer emulations. So it's super quality modeling.

The original box is spectacular as well. It's available as an insert on the RIVAGE series consoles.

Yamaha RIVAGE: How V2.0 can help you! - Duration: 6:08.

Hi, I'm Andy from Yamaha Commercial Audio.

I've been training and demonstrating with RIVAGE PM10 for a year or two now,

and it still impresses me

when I look at the faces of those who hear its sound, and understand its power for the first time.

It's like a light switching on behind the eyes.

Well that light is going to be brighter than ever.

Now Yamaha has announced version 2 for the RIVAGE system.

You see, the system has expanded in a mighty way.

We have another video to introduce the new PM7 console,

designed to provide the same unrivalled quality while being easier to afford.

And yet another video to introduce the new R-series "D2" units for use with Dante networks,

controlled from RIVAGE consoles as well as CL & QL series.

Features such as Mirror mode and Dual Console mode are now supported,

for extra redundancy, and for mixing from multiple locations.

And we can now create two TWINLANe ring networks in one system,

allowing the use of a massive 16 RPio units.

I'll explain more in a separate film.

Also look out for our films about the new Rupert Neve Designs plug-in and the surround sound and mix-minus features for broadcasting.

But right now I'd like to show you some of the usability enhancements we've made.

Let's start in the Selected Channel.

If you've made a stereo pair, you can now select between adjusting the BALANCE or the individual L&R pans.

As well as pairing channels, we can link many channels together with this CH LINK operation found in the CH JOB menu.

And then you can choose which parameters to link, down to the individual Mix and Matrix sends.

Very powerful.

And more permanent than the SHIFT-and-SEL shortcut used for quick temporary edits.

Because this CH LINK setting gets stored in the Scene Memories.

Also in the CH JOB menu is CH MOVE, allowing you to quickly move a channel from one location to another.

Simple, but helpful when you have to cope with a last minute change to the stage plot.

And if you like to keep your channel list organized,

check this new CSV import/export function in the SETUP menu.

You can load all the channel name, color, icon, and patch data into a spreadsheet for fast editing,

or for printing out and sticking onto the side of the stage-box.

Now let's move to the Scene Memory area.

You can see the PREVIEW button is now available.

Use this with care, because it takes the console off-line from the audio.

It allows you to recall and edit a different Scene to the one currently being applied to the sound.

So you can quickly make a change, ready for later in the show.

It's a powerful feature, yet quite simple to use.

And with a clear red flashing indicator to let you know when its active.

We also have some handy updates in the EVENT LIST.

Here we can link with Time-Code for automatic Scene and library recalls.

You can also trigger an event to occur automatically at a set interval after the previous one, to make an automated chain of events.

The Time-code itself can be either generated internally or input to the DSP Engine from an external source.

Useful to program a theatre show or scripted corporate event, for example.

StageMix, our iPad app is supported by version 2 for RIVAGE PM consoles.

Connect a Wi-Fi access point to the console or DSP engine, for the now familiar control freedom allowed by wireless mixing.

It shows 12 faders in a row to match the layers of the console,

and allows easy access to Sends on Faders, Gain, EQ, Dynamics and so on.

You can make adjustments to the sound from anywhere in the venue.

Let's finish by taking a quick look at the PM Editor software, which can run on Mac as well as PC.

Connect it to either the console or the DSP Engine for additional on-line control and editing.

You can even link its view to the right-side faders of the console.

And use it off-line to prepare for a new show in your own time.

It's great that it uses the same graphical interface as the console itself.

Download it from the website www.yamahaproaudio.com.

So I hope you can see, our version 2 upgrade is something rather special,

enhancing the workflow and the sound for engineers around the world in all audio mixing environments.

If you haven't done so yet,

please take time to discover and test the expanded range of Yamaha RIVAGE digital mixing systems.

Freezing weather continues with heavy snow on Jeju Island _ 020618 - Duration: 1:51.

Hello I'm Michelle Park here with the weather update.

Nothing much has changed, weather-wise,... with cold wave alerts lingering across the

country.

The temperature is expected to rise from the day of the Olympics' opening ceremony until

Saturday.

Don't get too comfortable, though, because from Sunday on, it's going to get extremely

cold again.

Meanwhile, it's still snowing on Jeju Island and the southwestern regions.

These regions, especially Jeju,... are expected to get a lot more snow through tomorrow.

It'll be blistering cold tomorrow,... and no surprise there.

Seoul starting the morning with minus 12 degrees Celsius.

Daegu and Busan begin at minus 10 and minus 9 degrees.

In the afternoon, Seoul remains freezing at minus 3 degrees.

Gwangju rises to 2 and Busan to 3 degrees.

Looking at the weather in Pyeongchang,... maybe those of us in Seoul shouldn't complain.

There the morning low will get down to almost minus 20.

But on the bright side, the mercury rises a bit on Friday, the day of the opening ceremony.

I'll leave you with the weather conditions around the world.

Yamaha RIVAGE: Expanded your system with V2.0 - Duration: 5:41.

Welcome to another video-log about Yamaha RIVAGE digital mixing systems.

Recently expanded with version 2 and the new PM7 console, there's a lot to tell you about.

This time, we'll study the additional connectivity options.

Firstly, Dual Console mode.

If you need two operators to program or mix a complex live event,

you could benefit from using 2 consoles.

Or in a theatre installation,

it could be necessary to have one console permanently sited in a control room,

and another available to use in the auditorium from time to time.

Either way, Dual Console mode will be a huge help.

To make it work, all you have to do is set the console mode in the SETUP menu, and connect to the Console Network ring.

So both consoles are connected to the DSP engine in a redundant copper ring.

All the Scene memories will be synchronized via the DSP engine.

If you want the same Setup functions like User Defined keys and Custom Fader Layers,

you can transfer those from the first console using a USB memory.

So two CS-R10 consoles (small or large) can be linked in this way,

or if you have a PM7 as the main system, a CS-R10 (again small or large) can still be used as the second console.

That will give you 76 faders to mix on.

Now Mirror Mode.

Of course, we all know that Yamaha manufactures probably the most reliable audio mixers in the world,

but sometimes you want the reassurance of a backup.

We already have backup network connections and power supplies for each unit,

but now, so long as we are using a PM10 system, we can also have a whole backup DSP engine.

To make it work, set the main DSP to unit ID 1A (or 2A if it is the second DSP in the ring),

then set the backup DSP to unit ID 1B (or 2B).

And connect them to the same main TWINLANe ring using Slot 1 on the rear panel.

Also connect the backup DSP to the same Console Network, using CAT5E or CAT6 cables.

Now, if there is any kind of problem detected within the main DSP engine,

the system will automatically and seamlessly switch to the backup.

If you want to switch engines manually, you can assign User Defined Keys for that function:

a simple way to test if your backup is ready.

And of course, you can have Mirror Mode and Dual Console Mode at the same time in one system.

And with 4 main DSP engines now supported in one TWINLANe ring,

it means one network can include up to 8 DSP Engines and 8 consoles.

That's enormous!

Talking of TWINLANe rings, we are no longer restricted to just one ring in a system.

You know the blank HY card slot 2 on the rear of the DSP Engine.

Well, that is activated with version 2, and we can insert another TWINLANe card for a second ring.

Let's call this our "sub-snake".

In some systems, creating just one large ring network isn't practical,

because of the layout of the building or the limited places where cables can be safely laid.

This problem could be solved with 2 TWINLANe rings.

Imagine using each ring for a different stage in a festival or large stadium event.

Or use the main ring for Stage-Left and the sub-snake for Stage-right.

Or the main ring for inputs and the sub-snake for amp racks and other outputs.

There are so many possibilities.

Anyway, each of the two TWINLANe rings can carry 400 channels, even at 96kHz.

And remember the audio is an extra high quality of 32-bits, so there are no sonic sacrifices at all.

Each ring can connect with up to 8 RPio units, so that is a total of 16 units for each DSP engine.

So now we have 800 audio channels being delivered to the DSP engines, and as many as 3,000 input connections to the system.

In another video I'm going to explain about the "Port-to-Port" patching system,

that allows audio to be bridged between each of the TWINLANe rings, and the Dante network of slots 3 and 4.

Thanks for watching. See you soon.

North Korea's art troupe arrives in South Korea via ferry Tuesday - Duration: 2:02.

More arrivals from up North for joint celebration of the upcoming winter games.

A cultural group crossed over to South Korea via ferry... to put up 2 highly-anticipated

performances -- one in the sub host city of Gangneung and the other in Seoul.

Ji Myung-kil has our top story.

The North Korean ferry, with the red letters "Mangyongbong 92,"... arrived Tuesday in South

Korea at Mukho port in the city of Donghae on the east coast.

South Korean officials gave a small welcoming ceremony to the North Korean art troupe after

the ferry docked.

The Mangyongbong is a 97-hundred ton cargo-passenger ferry named after a hill in Pyongyang near

the birthplace of North Korea's late founder Kim Il-sung.

Seoul has temporarily lifted its ban on North Korean ships entering its waters to allow

the ship to come.

The Mangyongbong 92 itself is not one of the North Korean vessels blacklisted by the United

Nations or the U.S. on suspicion of involvement in Pyongyang's nuclear weapons program.

The North Korean troupe will be using the ship as lodging during the concert period

in Gangneung and is also a way for the North to keep the artists from having contact with

South Koreans.

The North Korean artists will perform on Thursday in the city of Gangneung on the eve of the

Winter Olympics.

Gangneung is hosting Olympic events including women's ice hockey in which the two Koreas

will compete as a joint team... a first in Olympic history.

The troupe will perform again on Sunday at the National Theater of Korea in Seoul.

More North Koreans will be arriving in the South Wednesday morning via the western land

route.

The 2-hundred-eighty member delegation consists of four officials from the North's national

Olympic committee, 229 cheerleaders, 26 taekwondo demonstrators and 21 journalists.

Korean stocks drop as U.S. markets slump - Duration: 1:53.

South Korea's main stock index retreated sharply,... following Monday's massive losses on Wall

Street.

The Dow's biggest daily points drop in history came amid fears of inflation and rapid U.S.

rate hikes as the new Fed chair took the reins from Janet Yellen.

Kim Ji-yeon looks beyond the digits.

Korea's benchmark KOSPI closed at the 2-thousand-453 level on Tuesday... down by one-and-a-half

percent from the previous session... mainly due to historic losses on Wall Street.

The losses took the lead from U.S. markets, which tumbled on concerns that both inflation

and interest rates would rise faster than expected... after Jerome Powell took over

as chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve replacing Janet Yellen.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded its worst one-day points drop in history...

falling four-point-six-percent from its previous session to 24-thousand-345 on Monday.

The S&P 500 dropped more than four percent... its largest percentage drop since 2011...

and the Nasdaq shed about four percent as well.

Luckily, a local expert says the KOSPI will rebound during the first half once the shock

from U.S. markets ebbs.

"The fundamentals of the Korean economy are generally good and the prices of raw materials

are stable.

Based on expectations that IT-related stocks will improve... we believe the KOSPI will

recover and surpass the 2-thousand-700 level during the first half of this year."

The Bank of Korea Governor Lee Ju-yeol said he will continue to closely monitor the market

volatility.

A report released by the BOK's New York branch suggests it's highly likely the Federal Reserve

will raise rates four times this year.

If the Fed raises rates next month... it would surpass that of the BOK's... which has maintained

rates at the one-point-five percent level... on par with the U.S.

Kim Ji-yeon, Arirang News.
