How to Benchmark Your ETF Portfolio - Duration: 2:23.

Hi everyone – I'm Justin Bender, Portfolio Manager at PWL Capital in Toronto.

In my last video I showed investors how to calculate their Modified Dietz Rate of Return

at Questrade, to get a sense of how their overall portfolio had performed.

This week, I'm going to show you how to compare that return to an appropriate benchmark

– using the actual performance of an ETF portfolio.

Let's get started.

In our example, we'll assume that the investor purchased the following ETFs with $5,000 of

cash available in their RRSP account at the beginning of 2017:

40% in the BMO Aggregate Bond Index ETF

20% in the Vanguard FTSE Canada All Cap Index ETF

And 40% in the iShares Core MSCI All Country World ex Canada Index ETF

The investor then contributed $500 monthly into their RRSP account during the year, and

invested the cash into the same asset mix.

At the end of the year, they had earned a rate of return of 8.94%.

To determine whether the investor's return is in line with industry expectations, we

can compare this return to the weighted-average return of the actual ETF holdings.

If the investor avoided the temptation to time markets or pick individual stocks, their

return should be very similar to the benchmark return.

To get started, visit my website at canadianportfoliomanagerblog.com,

hover over the DIY Investor's Toolkit at the top of the screen, and then click on Calculators.

Scroll down the page until you find the Benchmark Your Portfolio Return Calculator,

then click on the download button.

On the spreadsheet, you'll find a list of plain-vanilla ETFs, as well as their rate

of return in Canadian dollars for the 2017 calendar year.

In the target percentage column, type in the target allocation to the right of each ETF

in your portfolio.

In our example, we've typed in 40% next to ZAG, 20% next to VCN and 40% next to XAW.

The spreadsheet generates a weighted-average return of 8.96% for the 2017 calendar

year, nearly identical to our Modified Dietz return of 8.94%.

It's clear that the investor has done an incredible job sticking to their investment

plan during the year.

I'll be updating this spreadsheet each year, so please feel free to drop by and benchmark

your returns as part of your annual portfolio check-up.

Mods Summed Up - Crystals - Duration: 2:14.

Today on Mods Summed Up we are summarizing Crystals created by Amadornes and therealfarfetchd

for Modjam 5.

Crystals is a magical automation mod.

You start the mod by crafting a tuning fork that will let you pick up crystals you find

in caves by tuning into their frequency.

Depending on the environment around the crystal, it will drop one of six types of crystals.

Breaking these crystals with something other than the tuning fork will yield the crystal's

respective dust.

You can use these dusts in combination with a craftable resource called slate to create

several different types of seals.

These seals can do everything from watering your plants, to pushing items, to automatically

harvesting crops.

The catch though, is that in order for a seal to perform its function it needs energy to

power it.

No not RF energy, magical crystal energy.

For example, a local rain seal needs to be powered with water crystal energy.

The best way to get water crystal energy would be by placing water crystals in a biome like

an ocean.

Nearby crystals of the same type will automatically form connections to each other and nearby

seals, transporting crystal energy across distances.

The mod even provides a nice-looking modular post to put the crystals on if you want.

Now let's wrap up with the Pack Dev's Corner.

As of this video, Crystals is fresh out of Modjam 5, meaning it probably has a few bugs,

and features that may be added later.

It doesn't have JEI support, let alone crafttweaker integration for seal recipes (You can find

the recipes online though).

However, this is honestly the only major drawback to the mod.

Using large amounts of seals could create some server lag.

In total, Crystals is a great, simple, magic mod that looks cool when you use it too.

Also, Praise the Sun.

And that's all I have for Crystals.

Thank you for watching Mods Summed Up, the show where we sum up mods!

The Untold Truth Of Tyler Perry's Madea - Duration: 4:32.

Tyler Perry's Mabel Simmons, a.k.a. Madea, is one of the most memorable characters in

movies today.

Perry has featured this gun-toting granny in a slew of films since Madea's cinematic

debut in 2005's Diary of a Mad Black Woman, but there still may be a lot you don't know

about her.

Let's dive right into the fabulous world of Madea — and the man who created her.

Oprah's influence

Perry has been open about his extremely rough childhood living with a physically and mentally

abusive father.

As a young adult, Perry heard Oprah Winfrey say that writing about one's traumas could

be cathartic, and he ended up doing just that.

According to CinemaBlend, he worked on writing his first play, which focused on childhood

abuse, for six years and even lived in his car for periods of time before it finally

became a hit in 1998.

The birth of Madea

When Perry started out as a playwright in the mid-'90s, he wrote plays that had music

and melodrama, but no Madea.

She showed up in his third play, I Can Do Bad All by Myself.

Perry told Winfrey in an interview that originally, Madea was only supposed to be in the play

for five minutes, but when the lead actress didn't show up, Perry expanded the character.

He explained,

"Five minutes before the show, I put on the costume and stood at the mirror for the first

time.

I'm saying, damn, are you really going to do this?

Then the show started and I had no choice — they pushed me out onstage."

Madea was a little different in the very first performances, mainly seated in one spot.

But according to Perry, when he finally stood up and moved around the stage, the audience

laughed and gave him a standing ovation.

"Hallelujah!"

Madea's roots

The roots of the tall, sassy ex-stripper grandma came from Perry's abusive childhood.

He shared with Essence that his mother would take him to beauty parlors to keep him away

from his father's wrath, so he saw adult women in a way that many children don't.

He explained,

"The nurturing part of Madea comes from my mother, who would open the doors of our home

to you no matter who you were.

[...] My aunt inspired the pistol-packing, the wig and the voice."

Eddie Murphy's film Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps also influenced Perry.

Just like Murphy, Perry would go on to play multiple roles in the Madea films.

Perry told Winfrey,

"I have to thank Eddie Murphy, 'cause after I saw him do the Klumps, I said, 'I'm going

to try my hand at a female character.'

[...] I need to write him a check.

Say thank you."

Stage versus screen

Most Madea movies are based on one of Perry's touring plays, but there are differences between

the stage and screen versions.

Not only do the plays have a musical aspect the films don't, but the Madea in the theater

was even more outrageous, especially in the early days, with more gun use and pot smoking.

He eventually toned down the character a little because of children watching.

He told Creative Loafing,

"I realized how many children were paying attention, so I wanted to her to be a little

more responsible.

[...] But for the most part, she's pretty much stayed true to the same old pain in the

ass."

A Chris Rock joke

Most Madea movies come from Perry's imagination, but one of them was Chris Rock's idea.

According to Variety, Perry had wanted to move onto other projects outside of Madea,

but then he saw a gag in the 2015 film Top Five in which Chris Rock's character is losing

out at the box office to the fictional Boo!

A Madea Halloween.

Perry and Lionsgate decided to make a real movie with that very theme and title, and

it was a huge hit in 2016.

(the universal reaction to clowns)

Big breaks

Some Hollywood stars have gotten their big break by being in a Madea movie.

Shemar Moore was relatively unknown when he was cast in Diary of a Mad Black Woman.

Shortly after, he landed the series Criminal Minds, where he stayed for over a decade.

Sofia Vergara appeared in Meet the Browns and Madea Goes to Jail shortly before she

started her longtime run on ABC's Modern Family.

And Taraji P. Henson credits Perry, who cast her in I Can Do Bad All by Myself with helping

her to ask for more money in Hollywood.

In her 2016 memoir, Around the Way Girl, she wrote,

"I was grateful for the work, but even more, I'm grateful to Tyler for putting me on the

road to being paid my worth."

Backlash

According to People magazine, Spike Lee, as well as others, have criticized the character

for buffoonery — and for portraying the black community in a bad light.

Perry told CNN that those critics miss the point of the themes in the Madea films, saying,

"They miss the messages of empowerment.

[...] It's broad, it's over the top.

Great.

Fine.

I get it.

But how can you miss the message of forgiveness?

How can you miss the messages of empowerment?"

"Do you see the millions of people that are coming to see this?

Why the hell would I be worried about a Spike Lee or anybody else, they can go straight

to hell."

2 Day Kayak explore of a river and a lake catching wild Cod EP.405 - Duration: 22:26.

Andy's fishing we're just driving down the road and came around a corner on the

side of a hill and I'll just show you what we saw it's um yeah pretty good

waterhole and we're actually on the way to somewhere else but when you see

something this good you've got to stop and have a little fish so you know

perhaps for an hour or two that's the plan

Clint's ready to go just a bit there's the kayak, mine takes a bit longer to

get ready with all the cameras and stuff but that's the waterhole she's yeah

looking really sweet

let's troll down to where it is at the back the lure and rod is vibrating

nicely I'm assuming Clint's fished all this so we'll just catch up with him and

then we'll probably fish the opposite side to him until your lures working cuz

the rods got this really big vibration going on it that's good if you pick up a

bit of weed the rod will stop vibrating and I'll just be like a just a steady

steady pull Clint he said he's already caught one fish so that's cool yeah I was

gonna say this some this Viking reload profish or pro fish reel a bump you know

this one's the Viking kayak the reload Profish it's a big beast in in these

little waters but having this rudder look at that I can just turn I quite

like that I've never had a rudder before and it

lets me control when I'm drifting I can go I just got a little bit left a little

bit right and yeah it makes it a fishing really easy I like that turn my camera

off for two seconds and this is Clint second feature that second fish and

we've been here five ten minutes I've been here five minutes fin spinning

maybe fifteen gonna have a little squeeze while you get the hooks here he

is very skinny isn't he Wow let's see that seems odd for such a

water hole that that indicates there's a lot of fish in here when they're they're

so so skinny I is all haired isn't he

he's a little lighter outfit that's actually where we gone we're heading to

a damn which one we heading to split rock lake

I didn't even empty the bin that just looked in it oh yeah he's actually not a

bad condition fish this one yeah he's a bit undersized but there we go yeah he's

not bad at all I like him yeah he's probably 40 48 47cm something like that 35

that's yeah now he's probably err 48cm definitely our 48cm on that off you go

buddy Hey yeah he's off I'll just show the real I'm using it's a concept reel by

13 fishing very nice little light little real and I have them actually on my Amazon

shop yeah if you want to see the exact model and the lure it's got a young

American bass paint job thanks for Darren McQueen that's just a generic

sort of deep-diving yeah sort of fat body lure and the rod don't worry about

that's not actually being made me more but it's ER yeah it's silstar

hopefully - we'll get a few more and then we'll we gonna find a campsite for

the night and I reckon we'll be into some bigger

fish tomorrow it's real definitely it's one of the smoothest casting reels of a

cast and I don't mind switching between overhead reels and spinning reels

they're all good in their own way

all that was a hit that was a hit but he didn't grab it okay let's go back in

there again I was a real fumble cutting that time so

he doesn't hit it she doesn't get hooked the first time like he actually worked

really quite hard but didn't get hooked up and then I did a couple of casts in

there I've just changed to the concept a this is a cheaper real boy my 13 still a

nice real yeah I cast really well I'm not really made for salt water but in

this fresh water stuff they're really good it's going in you can actually see

the gear that I use on my Amazon shop and for those people in Australia some

of the Amazon items I've got them listed there you can actually get them in

Australia so not just the US but Australia as well I actually got my

concept e o through them is not in Australia let's just undo that thank ya

once again nice nice murray cod probably just under legal I think a lot of the legal

fish get taken out of here you go buddy

this is what they do I've got lots of little sharp teeth and

they just shred you say a little bit of blood

that's called cod thumb and you got that you've had a good day

back you know I might try that safe spot again never know two hits it could be

another fish in there I'm just fishing this really slowly just just rolling it

over and again you can see that the rod bouncing like that

salut is working yeah nothing there move on a bit but there these fish like it

really slow well Clint is already up I'm gonna get up and then we're gonna go and

find a nice camp hopefully buy a nice big dam with some big Murray Cod

it but it's cool I think Clint might have got three or four fish I got I

think I landed two I missed a couple of others so that was cool Oh

here we are at split Rock dam it's looking pretty nice actually not a lot

of timbers and things like that but I think there's an arm that goes up that

way we're gonna try and find a camping spot

Clint's pretty happy he likes like look at this place yeah it looks really good

yeah I like hang on kangaroos okay the kangaroos

boing boings apparently they're blowing blowing clean Clinton reckons that's

that looks like a mom in the front and the young one in the back

what mums off already I'm gonna stick around

the fella plenty of these girls here let's go set up camp

my head up a little bit yeah it looks pretty low we found a nice body

hopefully is some fish first thing I want to do about chargrill no sausages

Medina I've got some nice charcoal

I'll use my charcoal burner in the way it's intended to if you have a look a

couple episodes back I actually use this to soak up some fish but it's actually

intended to start the charcoal burning I think one's all we need that some nice

nice charcoal there done just lit it like that put this down here and just

let that go from never use this before it's by uniflame BBQ is actually ceramic so

it's gonna reflect the heat nicely this is our ashtray to catch the ash that

goes on top there well

look at look at the BBQ that is it's really cool and then let's see it's it will set

up second time I've ever done that going okay they definitely need a bit longer

I reckon they're almost ready to be chucked in the gorilla okay that's

actually yeah that's cranking nicely there got the headlamp on I said I'm

thinking I'm gonna cook it up on that because yeah the heat shouldn't come out

of that so it'll be quite fine easy as picking this up carefully so not too

much fully at the bottom and tipping it in here yes oh that's a nice heat

through I'm gonna enjoy sitting by that that's it that's all out of it oh I

think my sausages are gonna taste delicious put this on here oh yes yes

yes yes sausage time these doesn't actually say where it's from but nice

little butcher in Manila and apparently they pizza sausages I asked what's in

there is like bacon cheese capsicum say that they'll be quite interesting hey

sausages going on I think I can see the cheese falling out of that one already

that's more like it yeah nice big sizzle down on there

or I'm gonna be long in there I'll be done it's time to relax have a little

drink long day fishing, driving, sausages saying

good mmm ah yeah actually I think I need to turn them yeah yep and actually that

sizzling that'll actually put a lot of flavor onto the sausages it's the young

but fat getting burnt by the charcoal and going back out so you're gonna be

smokey pizza sausages I'm so excited about the new BBQ grill and the sausages I

forgot about my other ingredients so this is only gonna be a fairly basic

cook up well actually yeah corn just gonna throw it on like that that's it

easy potatoes we are just going to slice in the big big chunky slices and just

constantly turn them thank you nice lighter here there and I've moved the

coals from this side all the way over here so I'll just have to keep turning

all of these I think I can hear a frog I'm sure that's a frog down there don't

know what species if someone if someone knows let me know oh look at that just

gotta keep turning these guys I could definitely get used to this style of

cooking pretty quick should be delicious yeah still got a bit to land it I'll

keep working on it so a sprinkling of salt oh yeah

got this nice dinner set from Snow Peak as well it's some the all stainless

steel and I believe this two of everything so I won't won't pull it all

out now show you one day during the day but it's yeah it's very compact and very

very handy all right so let's get all this stuff on the point yeah yeah I've

got a bit of color on the corn but it's it's only on one size so that'll

actually be quite nice so I'll chop that into a couple of pieces sure how this is

gonna go score it and pop it there we go beautiful and it's a little bit dry so

what I'm gonna do is put olive oil on my corn I'm gonna enjoy eating that it's

gonna be yummy yum yum all right guys I'm gonna eat this and yeah I'll see you

guys in the morning

good morning everyone it's um I think it's just after 6:00

a.m. and last night we had some serious thunder lightning and and really heavy

rain and we would count right next to the water and thought that wasn't a good

idea in case it sort of come up really quick it's come up a lot but it's still

raining you know I actually dragged the kayak behind the camper I didn't even

put the camper down I just um I just moved let's have a look outside a couple

of inches time for some breakfast

a little shave actually met up met a couple of guys that fish here a little

bit and they said there is quite a few yellow-bellied in here and they gave us

a few pointers hey guys if you see this thanks for the advice yeah I think we're

gonna fish up the river there's a little bit of a rivet here I'm gonna shave to

get it on I think I did all right want some breakfast and then we'll go for

fish

touches what else coming across the dam it was just chocolate with bait balls

and fear on the sand out on the sandy air

well guys it's been a long day I'm gonna trawl back to the camp

I prefer casting but you never know controlling might be the way to go on

this dam been very hard going many hours

on the trail I'm just heading back to camp

oh I don't know does not sure if it's a fish and they're kicking I think it

might be a stick or something unless he's just coming really easy

I wasn't hitting anything on the way

it's kind of swimming for I think it's a fish yeah we've got a Murray Cod look at

that Oh what I was fishing oh I could oh yeah it's just under legal size that's

so that's lifts you mean oh that was such a long day and like litter I'm just

paddling back to the bow ramp

Suzuki Swift Sport - 970 kg pocket rocket! - Duration: 7:04.

The new Suzuki Swift Sport is very yellow.

This will probably be the most powerful version of the Swift.

They show this on the outside.

For example, the license plate is mounted on a carbon-look plate.

It has a carbon splitter, 17 inch wheels, and side skirts with the same carbon look.

At the rear there's a diffuser-like carbon-look thing with two exhaust tips and a spoiler on top.

That's it. These are the differences with the normal Swift.

Irrespective of the color, that's not much.

This is the 1.4 Boosterjet, which is different from the engine in the previous Swift Sport.

That one was naturally aspirated. This one has a turbo.

That means not that much extra horsepower; only 4.

This car has 138 hp. The previous one had 134 hp. However, it does have 70 Nm (52 lb ft) extra.

That should make it more fun to drive.

The engine is connected to a manual 6-speed transmission.

We'll test it on a different road later.

In theory it does 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 8.1 seconds. The top speed is 210 kph (130 mph).

That's not what this car is about. These aren't astronomical numbers.

It's not incredibly fast, or...

This car is lightweight and playful.

I hope we get to test this on the Spanish roads.

For now I can tell you where we're sitting. It's a cool place to be.

It has many red accents, a red trim in the dashboard, a sports steering wheel with red stitching...

The steering wheel is nice to hold.

It has many control buttons, including for adaptive cruise control.

The car has all sorts of technologies that help to keep it safe, such as forward collision assist.

I have active lane keep assist that steers away from the median strip when I get too close.

It also has traction control, which can be switched off. We'll test that when hooning later.

Another fun interior thing is that the tachometer and speedometer are completely different.

The tachometer is red and attracts most attention.

The the right is the silver-gray speedometer. It looks sporty, but stands out less.

That's fine. You want to see the tachometer the most to know when to shift gears.

Between the gauges sits a display with a number of views.

Now it's on power mode, showing me how much torque and horsepower I'm using.

The two needles swing back and forth with the movement of my right foot.

There are a number of other views too.

There we go, shifting down a gear. I'm testing the torque.

It's fine. There we go, overtaking Polos. Always fun.

It feels like it has much grip. Fun fun.

The first acquaintance is fine.

Back to the interior, because we're stuck behind a van.

Cameraman Jesse and I sit in sport seats. These are nice seats.

They're a bit narrow if you're bigger, but I think they're comfortable.

They hug you well and support you from the sides.

The interior is okay. It suits the car's sporty looks.

Now it's time to test if the car can move.

The Swift Sport is no rival to the Clio R.S. or Fiësta ST.

Those cars are faster and beat the Swift Sport.

This car isn't about power. It's about the weight, the engine, and the driving pleasure it gives you.

This is a wonderful car to play with. It weighs less than 1,000 kg (2,200 lb). It's fun.

This car asks to play at every corner, making you smile.

Sometimes it reminds me of the 205 GTI.

I can't give the Swift Sport a bigger compliment.

About the handling.

The brakes are good and turning into a corner is nice.

It's as sharp as a ninja; it's crazy.

Because of the low weight... It's only 970 kg (2,138 lb).

You feel what happens underneath the 17 inch wheels.

When you turn in late and lift, you feel the rear slide a bit.

You do feel the safety systems take over, even with ESP switched off.

Unfortunately, pushing the button doesn't switch off ESP completely.

Of course you want to know what the Swift Sport will cost.

About 25,000 euros.

A lot of goodies are standard.

If that's too much for you, you can also choose a less powerful engine with a Sport Line package.

Such a cool-looking Swift starts at 18,999 euros, but it won't be very fast.
