7 Life Changing Messages From The Afterlife
By Dylan Harper
Recently I had the pleasure of attending the Wisdom of the Near Death Experience Symposium
in Austin, Texas. Over the three-day event, I heard many amazing speakers share their
story and journey into the afterlife.
All of the speakers had experienced what is known as a near-death experience or NDE, which
is a miraculous event where you die or are close to death, and then come back to life
with memories of visiting higher dimensions and meeting Divine beings.
All of the stories I heard were unique and deeply touching in their own way, but they
also shared a similar theme and carried a common thread.
Here are 7 messages that were shared across all the near death stories I heard:
1.) Beauty Comes from All Things One story that really touched my heart was
that of Mary C. Neal. During her near death experience, she was told her son was going
to die. She was reminded that even though this would be a challenging event for her,
there was a reason and a plan for it. She was shown the ripple effect that his death
would cause, not just for her immediate family, but nearly 100 times removed.
She was able to see the ripple it would create and the paths that it would change, and she
was able to see that beauty came from all of it. She was shown that in the greater scheme
of things, all seemingly terribly events that occur have their own specific purpose that
eventually result in something beautiful.
2.) We are Loved and We are Love All of the speakers shared that during their
NDE, they experienced being enveloped in the most amazing and powerful feeling of love.
This love was unlike anything they had experienced on Earth and was so powerful and so healing.
Through feeling this loving sensation, all of the near-death experiencers knew that this
state of love was their true nature and that Earth and their physical body was just a temporary
state of being.
We cannot fully fathom this type of loving energy here on Earth, as it would be too powerful
for our physical bodies to handle, and it would distract us from the work we have come
to do, however it is possible to understand or get a glimmer of it through practices like
meditation.
3.) Theres a Plan for all of Us We all have a purpose and a reason for being
on Earth and part of this involves learning how to love. All of us are here to learn how
to be love, spread love, and give love. Love is truly the ultimate power, and it is through
realizing this that we can grow and evolve. Troubles, pains, and strifes in this life
are all caused by a lack of love, and the more love we can give, the more we will heal
ourselves, others, and the planet.
The plan for our soul is laid out before we come into this body, but we also have free
will and the option to choose once we get here. None of us are immune from pain and
suffering when we come into this life, but learning how to love and be kind to others
despite it all is part of the process.
4.) We are all Connected We are all one. Even though we appear to be
separate from each other, we are all the same. After leaving their body, most of the NDEers
had an amazing sense of connection with others. This connection allowed them to understand
other people on the deepest of levels, and it was through this understanding that they
realized that we are all connected. We are all one.
When we hurt others, we hurt ourselves, and just the same, when we hurt ourselves we also
hurt others. We cannot take any action without affecting others and creating an entire ripple
effect that is felt across the entire Universe.
5.) There is no Judgement We are often told that when we die, we will
be judged and punished accordingly by a higher being, however this is not the case according
to those who have had a NDE. In fact, all of the speakers described their death as being
more like non-judgment day where they were loved unconditionally and completely
accepted, no matter what they had done. In fact, the only judgement in the afterlife
comes from yourself, as upon leaving your physical body you remember what your soul
was sent to learn, and you have a full knowledge over whether you have achieved this or not.
As part of this experience, you are taken through a life review where you are shown
how your behaviour and actions impacted others. During this life review you are able to feel
and live through the emotions you inflicted on others both good and bad. It is through
this review and experiencing the emotions that your actions created, that your own soul
gains awareness about what it has achieved and what it still has to learn.
6.) Death is Nothing to be Feared The speakers shared that during their NDE
they were made aware of a certain threshold that if they crossed, they would not be able
to return to their body. Out of all the speakers I heard, every single one of them wanted to
cross the threshold and continue on into the afterlife. They all described it as being
this wonderful, loving place that felt truly like home and none of them wanted to leave!
Some of the NDEers were told that it was not their time, but others were given a
choice. Upon reviewing that choice they decided to return to their body. It was through this
experience, that they realized that death was not the answer to their problems and that
anything unfinished in this life would simply be revisited in another. This experience also
released any fear of death.
7.) Our Loved Ones are All Around Us Most of the people attending the symposium
had lost loved ones and so it was often asked about what it was like to see them on the
other side. Almost all of the speakers shared that they were greeted by their deceased loved
ones after leaving their body and discovered that they had still very much been present
in their lives.
As one of the speakers, Cherie Aime shared, the veil between this life and heaven is very
thin and our loved ones are always there if we wish to reach out to them. All communication
in the afterlife is through telepathy, and so in order to hear and receive messages from
those who have passed, it does help to learn how to still the mind and stay open to any
signs or synchronicities that occur.

Monstarot Little Monsters Tarot by Joanna Nelson | Tarot Deck Review + Full Flip Through - Duration: 13:42.
Hi everyone it's Katey, and welcome to another deck review. And today I wanted
to talk about the incredible Monstarot or Little Monsters Tarot by Joanna
Nelson. Now this is such a gorgeous little deck that I've had for a couple
of months now, I bought it secondhand, which I'm very
happy about because the shipping to Australia was not cheap, but I am so, so
very glad that I do have it because I've fallen in love. Everything about this
deck just makes me happy and I've just really enjoyed working with it. So it
comes in this lovely two-part box which just has these really cute little
doodles on it as well as our Monstarot logo here. It's a two-part box,
it's very solid and sturdy, opens up like this, and in mine came this cute little
origami boat which features quite a lot in this deck you can see it on the front
of the box the book and in the deck as well. Then we get the little white book,
which we will talk about later, and of course the cards. The backing is
super cute, it is reversible and again we have these little origami boats that
come up so often in this deck with these little swirls and doodles. which I
just love. The card is slightly larger than a traditional size but they're
still very easy to manage and hold in the hands, the card stock is this lovely
not glossy but shiny slick cardstock and they're bendy without being flimsy. I
really really like this card stock I think it's very easy to shuffle, it
doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart in your hands, it's just- it's
sturdy, it's solid but flexible and easy to shuffle. The cards are borderless
which is just beautiful and these colours are just stunning. So we have this large
borderless card with just at the bottom simple white strip with the title of the
card making them very easy to read, the titles are very unobtrusive, I like it.
This deck is just adorable, in some ways it reminds me a little bit of the Hezicos
Tarot, has a similar feel similar sort of colour, palette that kind of soft
pretty pastels, although these are a little bit more vibrant and you know the
Hezicos is a fae world, a different world, and this deck would be little
monsters, these strange little creatures, it does feel a little otherworldly as
well although being very rooted in the Rider Waite Smith system there's
something very familiar about it as well. It's colourful, forthright, direct, and a
little bit cheeky at times, too, and quite playful I've found. With these
colours and these creatures the deck just feels really alive to me and that's part
of why it's so much fun to work with. Each of the little monsters, each of the
creatures they have their own distinct personalities you know there are all
different colours, different shapes, they have different smiles and little teeth
going on, and they all appear to be doing different things. But the deck still
feels very cohesive, I think Joanna has managed to create a
little world full of all these different monsters that have their own
personalities that are very individual but they come together to form a world
into which you can step and to experience. This deck has a sweet smile
but also has some teeth. I've found it to be very caring and tender when it needs to
be and quite encouraging too but I feel like it'll still give you a little nip
you know if you're kind of engaging in too much bullshit, if you're bullshitting
yourself this deck will kind of give you a little nip and push you in the right
direction. I've also found this deck to kind of really want to achieve win-win
scenarios and like it's not so much about you know just telling you how
difficult things are or what's going wrong, it's quite proactive, it wants to
you know find some solutions to your problems but it wants to do it in a
really positive way, not in a fluffy way, but just in a way that is very
productive and healthy. It wants to find a solution that is beneficial to all
parties and is most useful and most successful most satisfying to everybody,
which I think is a really cool thing, it's a very holistic deck, it has a way
of kind of helping me see the bigger picture and refocusing in on what's
important. Another thing I've noticed about this deck that I really really
like is the fact that in so many of them we have kind of one or two main monsters
but then we also have kind of a couple of other little companion monsters, it's
the best way I can think to describe them. It's very rare that we see a
monster or character all on its own in this deck, almost all of the cards have
multiple little creatures and they're often engaging with each other in really
kind of tender ways. They seem to be supporting each other, there is a
connection between each of the characters it feels like each of the
cards depict a symbiotic relationship of these harmonious relationships, as I said
this win-win approach, it feels like they demonstrating that in these images where
the monsters you know they want everybody to live in harmony they want
everybody to feel fulfilled they want you to reach your best potential but
they also want to reach it themselves. It basically feels like each of these
characters is working together and wants to work with you as well to create a
really beautiful world in which people can feel fulfilled, in which people can
all reach their potential. I know that sounds a little bit corny but that's
what it feels like with me working with this deck.
It feels really optimistic, uplifting, encouraging - it doesn't feel fluffy, if
anything it's the opposite, it's just very idealistic and it's not gonna
settle for second-best. Even though I was so drawn into this imagery when I first
saw it online when the deck was released I was a little concerned that it would
be a bit too much of a novelty, that it would be a bit too cheesy or kitschy,
basically that it wouldn't be a very solid reader, that it wouldn't really
kind of provide useful productive readings, that it might be a little bit
too fluffy or surface-level, but my experience has been almost exactly the
opposite, it's been a really really useful deck and it's become one that I
go to a lot. It's a very versatile deck for me and I find it brings a kind of
light to the situation without you know creating a fluffy narrative to it.
Interestingly this deck also makes me think of culture and how you know they
say that culture is to us like water is to a fish, it's all around us and yet
it's entirely invisible, it impacts so much of how we experience our world and
especially how we frame and understand it, and I feel like this deck is almost
an alien race, a benevolent alien race, who you know comes to earth and can
solve so many of our problems because you know they witnessed our our history
and our experiences but they're also you know removed and detached from you know
the heat of our experience and the weight of our history and so they can
you know provide solutions, whether that's you know to international
conflict or climate change in global warming, whatever it is you know having
that detachment allows them to just kind of see how something can be resolved in
a way that perhaps we aren't able to see, or we're not willing to.
And even though I'm talking big-scale here I think that's also applicable to
our own you know personal lives, on a personal level. These little monsters in
this Monstarot have a way about them that is kind and considerate and validating
but also detached. When they're helping me personally they're not weighed down
by my baggage, even though they're able to witness me and validate me, they're
not consumed by the experience of my past traumas, even if they can appreciate
my past in my history, they're not consumed by them or blinded by them.
They're not weighed down by my history and they also don't allow themselves to
be burdened by my baggage. And in that way I think they're almost the greatest
ally you could have, someone who can appreciate where you're coming from
without buying into your own shit and calling your own your own shit,
supporting you in a really productive way and pushing you to be the best you
can be without invalidating your pushing you too far. There's just kind of a
really neutral, balanced approach that this deck brings to readings, I think. It
just kind of presents things as they are, it shines a light on things so that we
can see them in their entirety and to then approach them in a way that you
know is uplifting, in a way that is productive and proactive, it has a very
bouncy sort of an energy to it that encourages the same from us. Given that
it's so very similar to the Rider Waite Smith as well it's very very easy to
read, if you know the Rider Waite Smith this deck is you know will be an easy
jump for you even if you're a beginner I think you can definitely learn with this
deck as well. It's perhaps not a symbol heavy as the Rider Waite Smith but
plenty of the symbols are still included, just in clever little ways. We do have
the artist signature in every card although it's kind of included in the
imagery and it doesn't bother me at all, I know that might be a bit of a bother
to some people but it's very unobtrusive, it just kind of looks like a little
extra detail in the card rather than you know an obtrusive signature. In some of
the cards even just like the plant life is alive all the rocks and we have a few
cards where mushrooms are anthropomorphised or trees even if they
don't have faces you know their branches look like hands they're doing things
with their hands, their branches. Sp even if there isn't directly another
monster in the card more often than not the plant life around it forms another
character. The images are quite simple in many ways I mean they're not completely
sparse but the backgrounds for example aren't overly detailed, which is
something I really really appreciate I don't have the greatest eyes and
sometimes cards that get too busy - the Shadowscapes is a very obvious example,
an extreme example - but sometimes I just struggle to make out different
details, whereas with these cards the monsters
are you know front and center we can really see what's going on with them and
what they're doing you know their facial expressions and body language all of that
sort of stuff without kind of those little background things getting in the
way and you know confusing the situation. In that way the deck becomes very clear
and easy to read as well. The little white book is perhaps one of my favourite
little white books I've ever read, it would be up there with the Fountain
Tarot for me and that is because I really like what is included. The writing
is quite small so that may be a little bit challenging for some people but that
is because there's so much included in here, it is still a little white book but
I think if this was published by Llewellyn they would pack in a bunch of
white space and note pages and make it a full-size guide book. Each card gets half
a page of information and we have very clearly at the top in bold the name of
the card and then we get three key words for every card making it you know easy
if you just want to have a quick look, a bit of a jog of the memory, and then we
have the artist's interpretation, so the artist explains what the art actually
includes which is part of why I like this so much, it actually describes
what's going on in the card which gives you some insight into why this
particular artwork was chosen. Then we have the card meaning which kind of just
expands on what this card actually means if it comes up in a reading, the
divinatory meaning, it's very direct language that is used as well which
makes it very very easy to read and to apply to your reading and to your life.
We do have one extra card or bonus card in this deck and it is the Illuminator,
which is such a pretty card, I love this colour, the colours that are used and how
you know it really lights up you can see the light in this darkness. The
Illuminator is a special wild card the guidebook says and will be exclusive to
the first edition, so any reprints of the deck won't
include this bonus card. And for the Illuminator the keywords that were given:
illumination, energy, shining the light of truth, and the artist's interpretation,
'The Illuminator stands tall on a mountain beneath the dark sky. He extends
out his hands to the sides and like magic, bursts of light appear and dance
into the form of an arch over him, shedding a bright glow and illuminating
his surroundings. Even in the darkest times, there exists within you, and inner
strength that can bring you hope when you need it. You are a magical being, able
to withstand intense trials and travel arduous journeys, in order to succeed. You
are more than enough. The energy within you will power you when all around you
falls away.' So a cute little bonus card that you can either choose to include in
your readings, either with that specific message that is provided in the little
white book, you might even choose to use it as the significator, or of course you
can leave it out of your readings entirely. So this is just, ultimately, a
very charming, darling little deck that I have had so much fun working with, I
think it's adorable, it's sweet, it's so pretty,
it's beautiful, but it's also just been a really good deck to read with, to work
with. I've done plenty of readings myself with this deck that have all been very
clear, easy to interpret, which can be sometimes a challenge when I'm reading
for myself, not always but every now and then you're tempted to kind of read what
you want rather than you know what the cards are really providing, with this
deck I find it very easy to just be somewhat detached and just get the
message that these little monsters are trying to give to me. When reading for
clients, I found this deck great as well again because it's quite forthright and
clear but there is this level of detachment, not so much because the
little monsters don't care, but more just because they're aware of this bigger
picture and so even though they honor the emotional experience that you're
having right now they're also able to you know detach from the hot emotions
that are too specific to this current moment and to kind of just draw you back
out to regain perspective a little. That's been how I've experienced this
deck anyway and it's been an absolute delight. So I do, I love this little deck
and I'm so very glad I decided to take the plunge and pick it up when it came
up for resale here in Australia on the Facebook group. I think this is a
fabulous Rider Waite alternative, just has such a fun presence and a great
personality, and it's just ultimately a very useable deck. So if you have this
deck I would love to hear what you think in the comments below, or of course if
you have any further questions that I haven't answered in this review please
feel free to ask and I would do my best to get back to you, and until next time
so much love, bye!

Editorial Boards on Peer Review Journals - Duration: 3:54.
Hi there.
I am John Bond from Riverwinds Consulting and this is Publishing Defined.
Today I am going to talk about being an editorial board member on a peer review journal.
The editorial board of a journal provides direction, gives insight into new developments
in the field, is an advocate for the journal to the community, and, probably most notably,
provides peer review for submitted manuscripts.
Editorial boards can vary from perhaps a dozen professionals to more than a hundred.
They usually cover all areas of interest within the specialty of the publication.
Increasingly they come from the global community, unless the publication is geographically limited.
The board is headed up by an editor, or editor in chief, or one of many other titles.
Sometimes there might be senior editors or associate editors that help direct the publication
and perform the many duties necessary to run the journal.
The editor and editorial board serve at the behest of the publisher or association that
runs or owns the journal.
In most instances, the board serves in an advisory capacity and is not a voting board.
As I mentioned, the primary duty of editorial board members is to peer review manuscripts.
Thankfully this is done via sophisticated online manuscript tracking software.
The reviewer can leave detailed comments about the paper and then suggest if the manuscript
be accepted, rejected, or sent back for revision.
Most reviewers are not asked to edit or rewrite manuscripts, but more to focus on content.
A reviewer might be asked to review a few manuscripts a year, or sometimes many more
than that.
Timeliness of review is important to all publications.
Being on an editorial board is an unpaid position.
The position of editor and perhaps some other senior positions usually come with an honorarium.
Most members are asked to join the board as their career reaches prominence.
Some are recommended by others on the board.
The requirements usually for board membership are: having significant advancement in the
field, a track record in writing and perhaps editing, previous reviewing experience perhaps
on other journals or committees, and, if an association publication, being a member of
the association.
Some journals entertain self-nomination to a board.
Sometimes board members will serve a specific term of a few years.
Other times, it is at the discretion of the editor.
Change on an editorial board is a good thing.
It allows new ideas and new perspectives to keep the journal fresh.
Editorial board members are the backbone of the scholarly journal system.
They ensure the quality of the content and the integrity of the peer review system.
There has been much discussion about this uncompensated work.
Stay tuned to see if the industry moves towards a new model for compensation, versus simply
career recognition.
Well that's it.

on a host of content related challenges.

Normal Korean University Student In Exam Period (feat. Returning student) - Duration: 18:30.
A normal morning has started!
Washing, as soon as I got awake
Ugh, so tired
Hi guys, it's Kyoung-Ah from Ryu's Penna
Today, I'll show you my exam period, everyday life
Actually, all university students will be busy in their exams, and I'll show you how much it really is
Since there are some people who like everyday life clips, I turned on my camera
Actually, my daily make up isn't really different with my university life clip, ago
Since it matches me the best, and it's easy
And also, it's the same as the past, I'll speed up
Fast forward!
It's all the same, but there's one added
Hera Black Cushion! (21)
I received this at the Fashion Week
The way I do my base and foundation doesn't cover well, and I use a bit dark foundation
So, I paste this above the parts that I want to look bright
I think my hands get faster in the morning, since I mustn't be late
Since I'm going to give a pink point today, I'l do my eye make up pink
Especially, liberal arts are really tough in the exam periods
But, today, I have 4 of them in a row
I failed on my time schedule this semester
So, I have 4 classes in a row, from 9am to 5pm.. I feel like I'm dead
The eyeline doesn't go well especially, on busy days like today
The good thing on taking clips like 'Get ready with me' on the exam periods
Is that I don't get sleepy with the camera on
That's a good point
When I'm really tired, I fall asleep during my makeup sometimes
The mascara finishes my makeup
And to emphasize my under lashes, this is the item I love
Etude House Oh My Lash Mascara Num.2 Base
I use this everyday
This is the first time to me, using this
This is Paris Rouge Midnight Cinema Label It Rouge
It's from Doctor Althea
Now, I'll do my hair
Well, the hair and the makeup is about done
How does it look?
I planned today's outfit, since I don't have time to think in the morning
I'll quickly wear them
Today, I wore a ma-1
And these cute details~
I got me a sandwich for breakfast
Now, let's go to school!
The way to school~
I get most of my liberal arts classes in this building
Arrived in the classroom with sandwich
Yum yum~ before the class
(I'm looking at my phone before class LOL)
And studying hard!
I listened to the next classes
Finally guys, I'm home
I'm so tired
I didn't film many
But, I have done some
Today was so tough, because of the 4 classes in a row
And since I concentrated on them, my head aches and I'm so tired
I only drink coffee on the exam periods, since it's so tough
And this bag
I had this bag today to give a pink point
For sure, laptops should be in backpacks
My laptop was so heavy in this bag
My shoulder aches so much, because of this
It's so heavy, and I'm so tired
Since I'm at home, I'll have to do my assignments
I'll take of my hat first LOL feels like I'm bald
I'll just rest with my phone before doing it
Watching my phone~
Everything is fun during the exam period
I don't want to do my assignments LOL
Ah.. why is my phone so fun?
I wanted to start my assignments but, I got my package delivered
Tada~ LOL
You know that everything is fun on exam weeks
So, I'll do a simple delivery unboxing, right now
What have I bought from A-land?
Ta da~
What's this guys?
Ta da~
What's this…
I think this is a gift…and it's toothpaste!
I think it's for trips
Three traveler's use toothpaste!
But the thing is, that it's different with morning, evening and lunch
Why are they different?
Well, they are three because of that
What's in together?
Ta da~
It's a denim echo bag
Isn't it cute?
(I'll open it up)
Tada~
Isn't it pretty?
And it's embroidery
The quality is good, since it's not printed
It's been a while since I bought an echo bag
If you see inside, the blue color is so pretty
There's some dust in it
Anyways! I tend to bring echo bags often to school
So, I bought this one
Last but not least!
It's~Tada~
Another denim LOL
This is!
Just a denim jacket
Since I love denim jackets, I bought another one
Tada~
Has lettering points on the pockets
It's the same brand with the echo bag
This brand has shown a denim collection, and they were pretty
So, I bought these items from them
If you see the jacket, there's this kind of button on the behind
Because of that, it can be matched open or buttoned up in many fits
Since it's so pretty, I think you'll see this in my outfit clips soon (or my Instagram @cornu_ryu)
Also, the pockets are so pretty, look LOL
Well, this is the end to my simple A-land unboxing
Now, I really have to do my assignment and posting and other stuff
Hummmmm I really don't want to start
But, I'm start!
I turned on my laptop to do posting
I'm doing a blog, not only Youtube
Posting hared!
Yawning~
I'm so tired
I really don't want to do it~
Now, my pattern assignment
I'm drawing patterns really hard
Since it's time for my meal, I'm going to eat some dinner
There were many contacts to me, telling me to not eat cereal, but a better meal
But, I eat well usually
I ate cereal only that day LOL
So today, I'm going to eat seasoned meat that my mother has done for me
Since I only have to cook it on the fry pan, I'll cook it fast
Just open it well, and burn it
Rice in the microwave
Is this right?
I should've got some water in it
Well. It looks tasty, though. Doesn't it?
Hugh~
Now my feast is done
I'm really horrible at cooking, but the meat and rice is done well
And Kimchi
with Kozel~
I brought my laptop to watch a movie
Watching a movie is homework for one of my classes
Homework? It's an assignment LOL
So, I'm going to watch a movie and eat, while I'm doing my assignment
I'll watch 'Good Will Hunting'
It doesn't show well on the camera LOL
I'll have a nice meal while watching this
Beer is really a lover
Having a bite on the meat
Oh it's tasty! I cooked it well guys~ although the visual isn't nice
Eating dinner while watching a movie~
The end is washing the dishes
I've done them clean, also!
Now, the rest of the movie with ice cream
I watched it really comfortably
It's reality LOL
I'm so tired
Me with fatigue all on my face LOL
I've done my assignments and ate dinner, and also have written my report after I came home
And there's still much to do.. it doesn't end LOL

What Really Happens To Your Body Every Time You Drink Coffee - Duration: 5:37.
If you can't start your day without reaching for a cup of coffee, you're not alone.
The National Coffee Association found 62 percent of Americans have at least a daily cup, and
it's a trend that's been consistently on the rise.
We're also starting to favor our gourmet coffees and our espressos, but the US is far from
the top of the list as far as per capita coffee consumption.
While Americans tend to average around 9 pounds a year, people in Finland just laugh at that
adorably low number.
"Some people drink coffee that late!"
"Yeah, people who work at NORAD who are on 24-hour missile watch."
They put away an average of 26 pounds of coffee per person, and they drink it all day long.
It's a way of life, and that brings up a very important question: What really happens to
your body when you drink it?
Hardcore workouts
If you dread going to the gym, try drinking some coffee before you go to work out.
It sounds strange at first, but there's a few things at work here.
Let's start with studies that have shown coffee helps improve the quality of your breathing.
We've known this for a long time, and Harvard University studies dating back to 1993 found
that caffeine helps the tissues of the lungs relax and, in turn, that makes it easier to
breathe.
That's true even of asthma suffers, and though a cup of coffee isn't going to replace an
inhaler, it certainly seems to help reduce symptoms.
It's obvious how that's going to help you get the most out of your workout, but that's
not the only thing coffee brings to the table.
According to Dr. Caroline Apovian, director of the Nutrition and Weight Management Center
at the Boston Medical Center,
"Consuming caffeine just before a workout has a few surprising benefits.
It temporarily increases your endurance, leading to a higher intensity workout than you would
experience otherwise, and also increases dopamine levels."
That last part is huge.
An increase of dopamine means you're going to feel less pain and more pleasure, and since
that's going to make your workout feel more enjoyable, it'll help get you off the couch
and exercising more often.
Coffee is practically motivation in a cup.
"This drink, I like it."
"I know, it's great, right?"
"ANOTHER!"
Boosting long-term memory
Pretty much everyone can use a boost when it comes to the memory department, and here's
where coffee comes in.
In 2014, researchers at Johns Hopkins University staged an experiment to find out whether or
not coffee has any impact on your long-term memory.
"I want in."
It does!
They asked volunteers to study a group of images, then gave them either a dose of caffeine
or a placebo.
Those who actually had the caffeine did better recognizing which images they had seen before,
suggesting the presence of caffeine helps the brain form clear, long-lasting mental
images.
The precise mechanisms aren't known yet, but it does seem to suggest that if you're in
the middle of a task that hinges on memorization, you should absolutely grab some coffee.
It certainly won't hurt!
Pregnancy woes
You may have heard that too much coffee impacts your chances of getting pregnant, and that's
no myth.
One study from the University of Nevada sought to find out why women who drink more coffee
seem to have a harder time getting pregnant, and they found that caffeine interacts with
the cells that form the walls of the fallopian tubes.
Drink too much, and the impact is so great it can actually keep eggs from reaching the
womb.
Coffee might have other effects on anyone who's trying to start a family, too.
According to a study done by researchers from the National Institutes of Health, caffeine
consumption is linked to an increased risk of miscarriage.
They stress the study doesn't really say why the causality is there, but did find if either
the mother or father drank more than three caffeinated drinks a day, it increased the
chances of a miscarriage by more than 70 percent.
What's going on here?
They're not sure, but it's definitely food for thought.
Increasing anxiety
If you've ever found yourself feeling anxious and worried without knowing exactly why you
felt that way, you might want to check your coffee intake, because drinking too much may
increase your anxiety levels.
According to psychotherapist Dana Carretta-Stein, clients who are already dealing with anxiety
or trauma are more susceptible to feeling these effects of coffee.
She says,
"Short-term, the coffee might help because the caffeine provides a quick pick me up and
a brief increase in the level of happiness.
But once that caffeine wears off, the symptoms are likely to come back even stronger."
"How many cups have you had this morning?"
"NONE!"
"Plus?"
"Five.
But yours is better!"
"You have a problem."
"Yes, I do."
There's a few things causing that anxious feeling, and it happens because caffeine acts
as a sort of trigger for all the sensations involved in our basic fight-or-flight response.
According to Neal J. Smatresk, a biologist and Dean of the College of Science at the
University of Texas at Arlington, caffeine has a sort of chain reaction in the body and
brain.
In response to the presence of caffeine, the body releases neurotransmitters that increase
heart rate and blood flow, ultimately leading to a state of readiness similar to what you
feel in an emergency situation.
That's some extreme stuff.
Bathroom breaks
If you're thinking about meeting someone at a coffee shop for that long-awaited first
date, you might want to rethink that, lest you spend your time in the bathroom.
Just what's going on here is tricky, so let's see what Lisa Renn, spokesperson for the Dietitians
Association of Australia, has to say.
"There is evidence that caffeine in higher amounts acts as a diuretic in some people,
but moderate intake is actually not that significant."
That said, you still might want to rethink your coffee house date, because while you
might not be taking a lot of trips to the ladies' room, you might find yourself taking
an awkwardly long one.
That's because coffee has a laxative effect on 30 to 40 percent of the population, and
while we're not sure exactly why it happens, we know how.
According to the American Chemical Society's Reactions series, coffee stimulates a part
of the colon that's responsible for sending you on a trip to the bathroom.
The good news?
You might be one of the lucky ones.
"Ahh!"
"Todd!
Are you not aware that I get farty and bloated with a foamy latte?!"

Digging Swales and Berms for a Permaculture Orchard - Duration: 9:36.
in today's video I'm gonna explain how we dug our swales and berms I feel like
there is no t-shirt in the world that better reflects my current life dillema
then this guy right here right I know what you feel like mr. bear I know
what you feel like here at Gold Shaw Farm we have more than 6,000 feet of
Swale and berm dug they're part of our permaculture orchard I've given tours of
that in past videos but for us it was important to put the swales and berms in
as a way to capture water and support the growth of trees we have about 600
chestnut hazelnut elderberry mulberry Siberian pea shrub apple and black
locust trees all on the back pasture we've planted back in October and we dug
the swales and berms back in July it's all relatively new we're here right now
I'm shooting this in April and this is the first opportunity that I have to see
how they're performing both kenefick with all the snowmelt and the brains
that we've been having so without further blathering let's go out and take
a look at the swales and berms
so for those of you who are saying I don't even know a swale and berm is let
me give you the quick basic explanation it's sort of a dig in and then a bump
again it's it's designed to retain water for our farm and our tree operation we
don't plan to do any real watering of the trees I might in a drought time run
out some water but other than that we don't have any irrigation lines we're in
a rather wet climate here in northern Vermont so we have that advantage
working for us but these swales and berms are designed
to catch water retain water and help provide the trees with a better
opportunity to grow and thrive so here you can see this is the orchard they are
a total of eight different swales and berms that we have and we have trees
planted on both the what I call the Swale side and the berm side as you can
see we have some pretty rocky soil here and we tried to keep them as level as
possible the reason that they're all you know crooked looking lines is because we
wanted to make sure that they're on contour which means that they stay level
with the the bends in the earth so for example if you look at this year you'll
notice it's wider up front but then it narrows here that's because the hill
gets steeper at that point to figure out all the contours it took me about it
about three days of measurement back in June out here I originally tried to
measure and Mark the contours
which is basically a fancy set of sticks and tubes that you can use to determine
the leveling my work in trying to do it was absolutely a total failure
I spent a full day out here trying to get it all measured and I ended up
marking about four points and to put that in perspective I ended up putting
in about 750 points of contour and that guided us when we did the digging for
those of you at home wondering and researching about how best to mark your
swales don't use a bunny up level you're just gonna waste your time particularly
if you're working at a larger scale just either borrow or figure out a way to get
a laser level when I when I did eventually get the laser level which was
loaned to me by my local NRCS office it only took me about three days to measure
and mark the entire space back here to mark the contour I used electric fencing
stakes you know the kind that you might use for a single strand poly wire fence
the reason I opted for those is I had originally thought about using like
little Flags like this guy here but the problem was when you're out here in July
you'll notice that the grass can get pretty darn high almost waist-high in
certain spots and I was afraid that the little flags would get lost so instead I
ended up using fiberglass fencing stakes like this guy right here
you know the reason for that was they're nice and tall so there I got there about
three feet tall and they were relatively cheap at Tractor Supply and so I opted
to get those I have a stash of him in the back we used of National Park trees
even here but it just was a more effective solution than trying to use
the the flags as I was researching the best way to dig the swales and berms
high tide with a number of different ideas I thought about bringing in a
bulldozer and you know pushing the the berm out I toyed with the idea of doing
simpler less deep swales and berms and using a key line plow but ultimately I
went with the excavator my neighbor he has this big excavator and
between the two of us we were able to dig all of these out most of the fine
digging and finishing was was done by by will I did some of the bigger digging
that required less finesse I've never used an excavator before and so it was a
new experience but I've got to admit it's fun and and it's one of my favorite
things about the farm is that I get to try all these new things that I've never
done before and build skill sets that I never thought I would have but playing
out there with the excavator I was in my absolute glory it was kind of like you
ever go to like a bowling alley and you see the the claw game where you try to
pick out the stuffed animal operating the the excavator was like that on a
much larger scale so let's talk about the things that haven't quite worked
with the swales and berms just yet well the first one is I've been trying like
heck to get this stuff receded and it hasn't done all that well you know you
can still see it they're mostly just look like big brown dirt lines in the
soil which every expert tells me is a bad thing and you don't want bare soil
it's like the worst thing in the world to have and so I'm trying to figure that
out the other thing is I had hoped that by putting in on this big slope here
eight different swales and berms that my area down below here wouldn't turn into
a swamp so you noticed though and you can see where that pile of brush is and
then over there it's just a marshy mucky mess it happened last year it's
happening this year during the snowmelt it'll stay marshy and mucky like that
probably until gosh you know probably until like maybe mid to late May that I
wish I could could actually dig it out I thought about digging it out and making
it a pond but the soil there is actually pretty sandy and lomi and would not
retain the water all that well to be a true pond and so I'm left with this
weird Marsh I think if I ever get ducks I might want to put a duck house like
right about there as you can tell I'm thinking about
getting ducks the idea what the Ducks would be I grazed them through here to
rotate them with some electric fencing throughout the spring summer and early
fall and then how's the duck house so down on this side is some of our
wettest marshiest stuff and you can see it here look water still sort of pools and
collects down here the Cedar Swamp is out back there just to give you some
context of where we are standing on the property I'm really rainy days it looks
like this all across the Swale by having these swells and berms my hope is that
it gets more water the trees gives the trees a better opportunity to grow and
and that's ultimately why I invested all the time and energy and giving a little
bit of money to to dig these out I know it's not perfect but I am very excited
about what this is gonna bring for those of you who weren't familiar with what
swales and berms are I hope this video gave you a better sense of why they are
important and why we put them in here on the farm
for the people who know all about swales and berms and have their you know
permaculture design course certification and all that good stuff this is just how
one Yahoo up in northern Vermont put his swales and berms in our farm is very
much a farm in progress and so any feedback thoughts or ideas that you have
will will help us to go to making this a better place
