Youd think that if there was a good invention, it would always be shared with the world,
right?
Well, ideally yes.
But even good ideas can sometimes be suppressed by others.
Conspiracy theorists claim that some inventions have been intentionally suppressed and the
public denied access to them.
Why?
Well youre about to find out - my name is Danny Burke and this is the Top 10 Inventions
That Were Hidden From Us.
Starting off at number 10 now we have Free Energy.
Some of you may not have heard of Nicolas Tesla, the man that Elon Musk named his flagship
car after.
He is sometimes referred to as -the most suppressed inventor- because so many of his inventions
were overlooked, underappreciated or just forgotten about.
One of them was the Wardenclyffe Tower Project.
Tesla claimed that it would provide free energy.
His Tower was said to harness electricity from the Earths ionosphere and then transmit
it to the ground for human use.
Unfortunately, Teslas investors backed out.
They said it was for financial reasons but some people believe it was because they saw
Teslas intent was to provide all people with free energy and nobody could charge them for
it.
Die hard Tesla fans believe we could have been living in a utopia by now if his inventions
were fully realised.
Moving on to number 9 now we have The Anti Gravity Device.
Sounds like something out of a sci fi movie right?
Well in the 1920s, American inventor Thomas Townsend Brown believed he had done it.
He was convinced his devices could use electricity to influence gravity and reduce to gravity
of an object.
In his 1929 book -How I control gravity-, he envisioned a future where if his device
could be scaled up, they could propel ocean liners of the future of even send -fantastic
space cars- to Mars.
His device was never taken seriously by other scientists thought who said what we was observing
was really a well known phenomenon called ion wind and that he had not figured out a
weight to beat gravity.
Supporters of his claim though that was a coverup in the 1950s by the US government
during the eras UFO obsession.
Moving on to number 8 now we have Cold Fusion.
This is a hypothesized type of nuclear reaction that would occur at room temperature and not
at millions of degrees as takes place naturally within stars.
If its possible, it could provide extremely cheap energy for everyone.
Eugene Mallove was an American scientist who claimed he had done it on several occasions
at the University of Utah.
He detailed it all in his book -Fire from Ice-.
Eugene said he that his results were suppressed through an organized campaign of ridicule
from mainstream physicists.
Conspiracy theories went into overdrive when, in 2004, Eugene was murdered while cleaning
out his former childhood home.
3 people were convicted, the court said the motive was robbery but others say it was the
final part in a coverup to prevent free energy for the masses.
Is this one too far fetched?
What do you think?
Next up at number 7 we have The Cloudbuster.
This device was invented by Wilhelm Reich from Austria - he claimed the Cloudbuster
could produce rain by manipulating what he called -orgone energy- … a force present
in the atmosphere.
It was intended to be used in a similar way to a lightning rod.
Reich would point it at a location in the sky and ground it in a material that would
absorb the so called -orgone-.
This was said to absorb the orgone energy out of the atmosphere which would cause clouds
to form and then rain.
One newspaper reported that within hours of setting up a Cloudbuster, nearly a quarter
inch of rain fell across the area despite no rain being forecast.
The government put a stop to his work after he was convicted for selling a device that
cured the common cold and impotence - he died in prison.
His work was ordered destroyed, including the cloudbuster which many have called pseudoscience
but some believers say there was a coverup.
Moving on to number 6 now we have The Safe Cigarette.
In the 1960s, the Ligett and Myers tobacco company announced their new product - the
XA - a cigarette in which most of the toxic carcinogens had been removed.
The research director of the company told a court that Philip Morris, owner of a major
tobacco company, threatened to -clobber- them if they revealed information about the negative
health effects of smoking.
They claimed that announcing a -safer cigarette- would lead people to believe that normal cigarettes
are not healthy - which is true.
The company issued a press release denying evidence of cancer in humans and so the XA
cigarette was never made.
Conspiracy theorists believe this was all due to the pressure of other tobacco companies.
Coming in at number 5 we have The Electric Car.
Now I know what youre thinking, hang on - we already have the electric car - yeah we do,
but we could have had it sooner.
In the 90s, General Motors began producing the EV1, the worlds first Electric Car, produced
over 20 years ago in 1996.
It was pulled off the line just 3 years later because consumers werent happy with the short
battery life.
Many analysts though say this was a lie and that GM were actually under immense pressure
to from oil companies to stop making the car which they believed would hurt their business.
This conspiracy might have gone away a lot sooner if GM didnt then hunt down and destroy
every last EV1 car.
Perhaps if this never happened every car would be electric by now - who knows!
Coming in at number 4 we have The Efficient Lightbulb.
These days, many places have energy efficient compact fluorescent lightbulbs but some people
believe we could have had them a lot sooner.
The companies of Philips, GE and Osram are said to have engaged in a conspiracy from
1924 to 1939 to control the emerging light bulb industry.
The cartel set the prices and suppressed competing technologies that would have produced longer
lasting and more efficient light bulbs.
By the time it all ended, the less efficient standard light bulb dominated North America
and Europe.
It would take another 60 years for the effects to be reversed and more efficient bulbs to
enter the market …
At number 3 now we have Greek Fire.
During the middle ages, the Byzantine Empire were feared by their enemies for a terrifying
weapon they had invented called Greek Fire.
It was an incendiary weapon that was used in naval battles to burn other ships and everyone
on board.
What made it unique was that it continued to burn while floating on water.
It was a key part in their military victories and saved the empire on a number of occasions.
Because of this, it was a closely guarded state secret.
When the empire finally fell, the secret formula of Greek fire was lost to the ages.
Many people have debated its ingredients and how they were combined - hoping to find the
secret to a fire that burns on water …
At number 2 we have Perpetual Motion.
For a thousand years, people have wondered whether perpetual motion was possible - a
machine that could work forever without an energy source.
Its now considered impossible but in the early 20th century, an Austrian inventor called
Viktor Schauberger apparently did it.
He never claimed to invent a perpetual motion machine, but instead stated that he used Earths
natural power.
One of his machines was said to use oscillating water or air to make a flying device that
required no fuel.
Some say this technology was successful and eventually used by governments to make what
we some people claim to be UFOs.
This theory has only intensified when people learnt of Viktors fate.
After WW2, he was detained by US intelligence agents who kept him in custody for 9 months.
All of his documents and prototypes were destroyed …
And finally at number 1 we have The Earthquake Machine.
This is another invention by Nikola Tesla which was said to create earthquakes through
mechanical oscillators.
He claimed that in 1898, he caused an earthquake in New York city when a mechanical oscillator
caused extreme vibrations in structures there.
He alleged it generated enough resonance in several buildings to cause complaints to police.
As the speed increased, he realised it was affecting his own building and quickly destroyed
the device with a sledgehammer just as the police arrived.
The MythBusters show tested their version of the device in 2006 and found that it did
produce measurable vibrations but not enough to shake any modern building …
So then - how many do you believe?
Do you think certain people have held back technological advancement or is it all just
paranoia and pseudoscience?
Let me know - thanks for watching as always guys, my name is Danny Burke and Ill see you
all in the next video.
