Hey Youtube family! It's ya girl Lia back again with another video. And today's

video is such an exciting video for me to record for you guys here today. I've

got three major things I want to talk to you guys about but first let me get into

this hair. Because ya'll probably like where's the crochet girl. Where where's your

crochet hair. It's not here because I have straightened my hair for the first

time in a full year. You guys know I'm on this kick where I only put heat to my

hair once a year. And it marks my once a year mark. It was July or I think it was

early August but I sped it up a little bit. So it was August of 2017 I believe

this last time I flat ironed my hair. Before that I believe it was June or July of

2016. So now it's 2018 and it's time for the reveal of what my hair is giving you.

It's give you a little drop. I got a little bit of a trim because my ends were not playing around. They

were looking a little Jagged Edge on me but this is what I'm giving you. My edges are

still intact still laid still there and you guys always are like well what's

your hair doing up under your crochet hair. I'm revealing to you guys now. So

take it all in because it's the last time you'll probably see my hair

straight again before 2019. But having said that it's been two years since I

started this no heat journey and it's also been two years since I started my

channel. So tomorrow July 24th 2018 for mark two years that I've been on YouTube.

I started my channel July 24 2016 and that's so crazy for me to believe that

I've actually been on YouTube for so long. You guys have been so supportive

and I've been able to keep this no heat thing and keep up to my obligations

because you guys. You guys out there are pushing me. I feel like I can't

straighten my hair. Even when I'm itchin to see that drop and to feel my

straight hair. I'm like no. I got a channel. I got an audience out there and

I really want to keep my word with them. So thank you guys all so much for rockin

with me over these last two years. All 28,000 of you guys subscribed out there.

All two million views that I've hit on this channel. It's all because of you and

your fabulous support and how do I reward you guys' support. If you've

been rocking with me you know I'm the giveaway Queen. I love giving

back to my audience because you give to me so much and it's giveaway time. It's

on wait. So did I just get scammed out of a $100 gift card and I was like why do

people do this. Why are people like this. I'm so upset. I don't want to do any

more giveaways. I'm over this. So I skipped my 25k giveaway and then I was

like well let's not punish people. Let's not punish people. Let's come up with an

effective way to do giveaways without running into the issue because I still

gave away prizes to my real authentic true 3 winners and then I had given it

away to that scammer out there. But I was like you know what not even gonna fret

on it. Not even gonna push the issue I'm just gonna figure out a way to be able

to effectively do giveaways. And now I'm here. I figured it out and what is the

giveaway. What do I win in this giveaway? What am I giving away this time? Now I'll

commute one day from work to home and it said it was about an hour and 20 minutes

and I was like okay I don't know how I'm gonna do this for that much longer. And

nothing's really tying me to this area so I need to be a little bit closer. So

your girl is moving soon. So that means the stairs that you guys have gotten

accustomed to over the last couple of years

will be changing. But the location may change but the content will remain

the same. Ya girls still got you with the crochet hair reviews. My

videos will remain constant but in a different location. So these are probably

the last few videos you will see from me on this stairway and I know you guys

have gotten used to it but you guys will get used to the new location. So that's

it just wanted to reveal my straight hair, announce my giveaway and

- The challenges probably start well before

you get the appointment.

My personal belief is always,

and it always has been, that

you should really behave

and put yourself out there in a matter

that's befitting of your role,

but also of wherever you want to be.

It's not enough to just do

what your role is.

You have to do that.

That's part of it, of course,

but it's about if you're an ambitious person

and you want to get to the next step,

it's being that role and also being the other role.

Also taking on the extra responsibility, doing more.

And that's challenging.

One of the biggest challenges I had

when we moved across was that,

and like I was saying to you before we started recording,

moving a practise is really difficult.

It's a challenging thing and I remember the first

six months were really hard.

There wasn't necessarily enough work around

and we always knew it would come,

but it's actually having that persistence and

that belief that it's going to work out.

It was a blessing, for me.

It was the way that I see it.

And while it was really challenging at the time,

when you're constantly thinking,

okay, well what's coming?

How is it gonna get here?

I'd never had to do that before.

It was a game changer for me.

If I hadn't of moved firms,

that would never have happened.

I moved across to Mills with,

my still current partner, Tom Cantwell, there.

We worked together and we tried to build it together

and we did that.

But like I said, it was hard.

It was a challenge.

We had to continuously try and do things

and shake up the market and talk to clients,

talk to different clients,

existing clients, everything.

That was probably the biggest challenge

that I think I've had throughout my career,

but if that hadn't have happened,

I wouldn't be a partner now because

if everything had of just landed on my lap,

it's much harder to go out and win that

because I was a winner out of that circumstance

because it made me start thinking differently.

I'd not had to win work at my previous firm.

When you're at a huge international firm,

the work's generally there and that's great,

but you get put into a different position

and you start thinking differently.

And all of a sudden,

you start seeing the opportunity

and you're just going wow,

we can actually create something that,

for me, I've never done it before,

but yeah, that challenge.

How do you overcome it?

How did I overcome that?

Hard work and persistence and actually working out

how to build a practise and that's pretty much it.

(laughs)

A Toxic Lack of Masculinity - Duration: 4:29.

The craziest thing was that there were men all around him and no one said anything.

One day I was walking along the street with some of my girlfriends.

We were going to some of these cute little shops in the downtown part of the city.

And as we were walking, there was a man who was sitting at a table outside of a restaurant.

And he saw us, and he started to catcall me.

"Hey, red!

Red, come on over here.

Hey, baby, you're looking good!

Come on over here!"

I was completely embarassed - because that's what happens when someone's yelling at you

in public.

I felt scared.

I almost felt a sense of shame even though I'd done nothing wrong.

And I didn't now what to do so I just ignored him.

And my friends and I, we were apalled so we just walked a little bit faster.

And as we were walking, he didn't stop.

He got louder.

And then he started swearing at me for ignoring him.

As bad as that was, the craziest thing was that there were men all around him,

and no one said anything.

What happened to me that day on the sidewalk outside of those shops

was an example of a toxic lack of masculinity.

Our culture today is filled with men who don't understand what it is to be a man of virtue.

And it's not surprising.

You look at the media, you see examples of grown men behaving like children.

They're stupid, they're incompetent, they're irresponsible.

All they do is use women.

That's the kind of thing that women are afraid of.

That's the kind of thing that women in our culture are angry about.

But that is not authentic masculinity.

An authentic man is a man of virtue.

He's a man who seeks excellence in everything that he does.

He's a man who takes on responsibility.

Who is selfless in the way that he loves.

A man like that isn't boring.

He's not like every other guy out there.

A man like that is attractive.

It's bold.

It's something that women are drawn to.

It's the kind of man who chooses not to click on that advertisement that pops up on this

computer when he's alone.

It's a man who chooses to wake up early in the morning so he can pray.

A man who selflessly performs an act of service and doesn't ask for attention when it goes

unnoticed.

It's a man who stands up for the dignity of women even when women aren't around.

A man who honors his girlfriend by respecting the boundaries in their relationship.

This toxic lack of masculinity is a tragedy.

But an even greater tragedy would be to think that the solution is to get rid of masculinity

altogether.

The solution to this problem isn't for men to deny their masculinity, to become more

feminine.

The solution is for men to embrace their masculinity.

Authentic masculinity is the answer.

Women need men.

Just like men need women.

Neither one of us is replaceable.

We need each other.

That day on the sidewalk, that man might have thought that he was big.

He was loud.

He was obnoxious.

But in reality, he was acting like a coward.

And the only solution to that problem is for authentic men to stand up and say,

"I refuse to allow this to continue."

The really interesting thing was that my friends and I were actually on the way

to meet some of our guy friends, some of the fellow missionaries of The Culture Project

for a holy hour.

For a time of prayer and adoration of our Lord in the Eucharist.

We pulled into the chapel parking lot.

I opened up the doors, still shaking from what had happened.

And I saw my brothers.

My brothers in Christ on their knees in front of our Lord in the Eucharist.

Asking God for the strength to be good men.

Authentic masculinity is what I saw that day with my brothers.

Authentic masculinity is what I felt that day when I walked into that room and I knew

that I was safe.

That I was honored.

That I was cherished.

I knew that there were men in that room who would lay down their lives for me -

not trying to get anything from it.

That's the power of authentic masculinity and I believe that is the solution to the

toxic lack that we see in our culture.

We need real men to take action "Hey!"

"Hey, red!

Hey, come here!"
