Hello everybody I hope you are doing good today I want
to make the video about something special. If anyone
that had been follow me that before I study PhD I have
once said that I want to talk about this of how I did the
research. I want to share my experience to those who
want to study PhD it will be the good thing to everybody.
For those who did not follow me yet. Now I study PhD at
Newcastle University and also bachelor and master
degree too. But for bachelor degree I study chemical
engineering. For master degree I study clean technology
After master degree I got a scholarship for PhD for
carbon capture. Right now I'm on one and a half year I
felt that I want to share and express how I felt now. The
first three months of my PhD are to write a proposal to
set a goal in the next three years of how our work will be.
So I have to write a report to the university that I will do a
research about this and also what the method will I use.
That I can create. My research I will use a seaweed
or the microalgae it is the one cell seaweed to capture
the carbon dioxide in the air which are the gas that
create the global warming. My research aim is to use a
seaweed to absorb the carbon dioxide from powerhouse
and my PhD focusing on the laboratory based divided
into two main things which are laboratory based that I
have to did an experiment a lot. Another style is the
computer based like simulation modelling. Which focus
on the computer that you can do when or where ever you
want if you have a program in your computer. After I
summit my proposal. I got a chance to do the research at
America too. Because my professor have the
collaboration with North Caroline state university.
My professor send me and my friend to train at America.
I want to tell you that is was the very good experience.
I have been doing a research in America for two months.
I have learnt the technique of how to do an experiment
from there. The first year of PhD is all about finding the
knowledge about our research. It is like to know the
basic well. My professor goal of sending me to America
are to make me got a new skill. Learning PhD in America
is different from England that it took four to five years to
study PhD and during the first and second years in
America they will focus on the lecture. It kind of same
like bachelor and master degrees. The first time that I
heard that I am kind of shock. Because in England it is
different that in England they are focusing on research.
Four years is all about research. There no need for
lecture anymore. If anyone who study PhD in England
it will be like this.
After me and my senior went to American together my
senior name is Abbas. He gave me his work to me to
present at the conference in Barcelona Spain. It is the
international conference about chemical engineering. I
have been present poster. It is the first time that I went
to international conference which I'm very excited. That
it make me know each university have a good research
everybody are very interesting. The first conference
make me surprise take half of the company are all about
chemical engineering. I am very surprise that they show
their technology or the research that they were doing
it is very big conference. The presentation about my
faculty have a small section. I just only seeing that. I
have seen another one too. In that conference I got a
chance to go with my bachelor professor I have seen
another side of my professor. After the conference I still
in a mode of travelling because I went to American and
Spain in the first year. I been back to focus to do a
progression. After nine months of PhD especially in my
faculty in Newcastle University there will have a
progression test. It is an interview test of our progress.
That how long that I done a research and tell that can I
go on to the second years and can I graduate. Because
learning PhD even we have a supervisor but it all about
our self. Our supervisor they just guide you to the right
direction and give you a solution but we have to decided
by our self. I am very stress because in the interview
test there are one section that I did it not so good.
Because at that time I when to America I done it quickly
so the result is not so good. In the test they ask that part
hardly that make me stress after done with the test
they gave me a pass but they say that I have to fix that
part and then I have to submit to the panel. I forget to
tell you that the professor that test me is the professor
that were in my faculty. They make the real situation.
After the interview test I got to the second year now.
The second year there are a lots of lab to do. Especially
during this time. I started PhD in 9th January 2017 now
it's been year and a half seven months. It is the tough
time for me. That I have to do an experiment as much as
I can because the second year is to collect the data and
result and if I have a free time I will try to write a paper.
Now I try to find the inspiration to write the paper.
Because if I can publish before I graduated it will be a
good thing for an exam that my research can be use.
Now I am very stress I feel that my face become older
and older because sometime when I'm on the lab I don't
know what the result will become sometime it not what
we expected I will feel can I graduated I believe that the
person that study PhD will be like me. There will be
a one moment that we are in the lowest point in PhD
that we don't want to do it anymore. To study PhD is like
we cannot know what we will get like bachelor or master
degree. Because when we study bachelor and master
degree the knowledge are on an internet or in the book.
We can find the answer but PhD cannot find in the book
and that we have to create our own knowledge. It like
we use our own knowledge to create something new
for people to find it interesting and to use in real life.
For those who watch me and thinking about PhD. I want
you to go and ask yourself what we are study for
because PhD can really make you sick and if you chose
the wrong supervisor it will make your life turn upside
down. It is an important thing to choose a right
supervisor to start PhD. I want to tell you that if you want
study PhD you have to be tough and strong because we
have to live with it for three to four years. I hope you guys
