Waching daily Aug 1 2018

Hi everyone!

I'm Whitney and I post a new sewing tutorial every Wednesday to help sewers and quilters

of all skill levels learn new projects and techniques.

This video is part of my Sampler Sew Along.

It's a block of the month style series where I'm sharing tutorials for 12 different quilt

blocks so you can sew along and make a sampler style quilt from start to finish.

If you've found this video at random and want to know more about the Sew Along and see any

videos in the series you may have missed then make sure to check out the playlist linked

down below and subscribe by clicking that red button down below so you catch the rest

of the Sampler Sew Along videos.

Today's quilt block is called Churn Dash or sometimes referred to as Monkey Wrench.

This block made it's first appearance sometime between the years of 1800 and 1849.

It's a fairly simple block, but can be very interesting with up to four difference fabrics

used on each block.

I'll be showing the block using three fabrics, but feel free to use only two if you want.

You will need (2) 5 x 5 inch squares from a dark fabric and (2) from a light fabric.

(4) pieces measuring 2.5 x 4.5 inches from dark and (4) from light.

As well as a 4.5 x 4.5 inch square from your light fabric or from a whole other fabric.

We're going to start by making the half square triangle units.

Place two of the 5 inch squares right sides together lining up all the edges.

Use a ruler and marking pen to draw a line between two opposite corners.

I'll have an amazon link below if you want more info on my favorite supplies and anything

purchased through it helps support future Whitney Sews tutorials.

Add a couple of pins.

Then sew a quarter inch away on each side of the line.

Remove the pins and carefully cut right along the marked line.

Do this for both sets of squares.

Starting with the darker fabric on top, open the piece up and press flat with an iron.

Repeat for each piece.

You should now have 4 half square triangle units.

Trim up the units so they are all exactly 4.5 inches.

It is really helpful to have an exact sized ruler and use the diagonal marking to line

up with the diagonal seam.

Now onto the rectangles.

Pair one of each fabric up, place right sides together and sew with a quarter inch seam

allowance.

Then press open starting with the darker fabric on top again.

Lay out your pieces as shown, at this point the block is a version of a nine patch meaning

we have nine equal size squares to sew together.

Lay the first two pieces of the top row right sides together and sew.

Repeat with the third piece in the row.

Press both of the seams toward the center of the row.

Then sew the next row together.

Press the seams in this one away from the center.

And finally sew the last row and press the seams toward the center.

By alternating the way they are pressed it will help the seams nest together nicer.

Lastly sew the three rows together and give them a final press.

Your churndash block is complete!

It should measure 12.5 inches at this point.

Take a pic and share it with #SamplerSewAlong so we can all see it.

Then go ahead and pick out the fabrics for your next block which is shown here in grey.

You can find the entire Sampler Sew Along playlist linked right over here to the side

and some more half square triangle projects down there.

Until next time, Happy Sewing!

Lush Routines: After the Workout - Duration: 2:34.

(upbeat music)

- Help me.

(laughing)

(upbeat music)

- Hi, I'm Kaleigh, and I work

on the internal communications team at Lush.

Today I'm gonna take you through my post work-out routine.

After working out, I feel great.

I feel super energetic and ready for the day.

I work out in the mornings, so my routine really,

it really needs to be fast.

Working out, I do CrossFit,

so I do a lot of interval training and barbell work.

So I get super sweaty, and I definitely need to shower

before going to the office.

The first thing I do is hop in the shower.

And then I grab my favorite shower gel,

which right now is Dirty Springwash.

I feel like this one's super cooling and refreshing,

and the smell is amazing.

It's kind of like spearminty almost.

It helps me wake up even more after working out

because of how refreshing it is.

And I just love it on my skin.

And yeah, the smell is amazing.

So after I'm done in the shower,

and if my muscles are super sore that day,

I'll usually use Wiccy Magic Muscles.

It's a massage bar.

So the smell smells like peppermint and cinnamon,

and the adzuki beans in it really help loosen up the mussels

when you're rubbing it on your skin.

And then it's super moisturizing after,

so it's great for those tough days.

Next up in my routine is No Drought dry shampoo.

And it's an absolute lifesaver.

I use it almost every, every other day,

Cause I do wash my hair.

If I can't wash my hair,

and I really need to get out the door,

I sprinkle some in my roots,

and then I rub it in.

And then I brush it out slightly,

and then style it for the day.

This saves me so much time.

(laughing)

So my last step in my post work-out shower routine

is Breath of Fresh Air, and it's a toner.

I use it before I put on my makeup.

So I spritz it on my face,

and then I immediately after put my moisturizer on top of it

and it helps the moisturizer actually absorb more.

And then I just feel even more refreshed.

So yeah, it's really great.

So that's my post work-out routine.

Let me know if you have any tips and tricks

that you use in your post work-out routine

in the comments below.

Thanks for watching.

(upbeat music)

Yay, I did it!

Ant War Time-Lapse with Words of Thoreau | Koaw Nature - Duration: 2:20.

If you've never stopped to observe the ferocity

and complexity of an ant war—

I strongly suggest you reconsider.

It is fascinating watching the mostly females,

yes females—do battle.

Check out this time-lapse of an ant war that I took—

that took hours and hours until my battery died—

while complimented with some words Henry David Thoreau

from a passage, "The Battle of The Ants."

[♪ somber string music ♪]

"It was the only battle which I have ever witnessed,

the only battle-field I ever trod while the battle was raging;

internecine war…

On every side they were engaged in deadly combat,

yet without any noise that I could hear,

and human soldiers never fought so resolutely.

I have no doubt that it was a principle they fought for,

as much as our ancestors,

and not to avoid a three-penny tax on their tea;

and the results of this battle will be as important and memorable

to those whom it concerns as those of the battle of Bunker Hill, at least.

I never learned which party was victorious,

nor the cause of the war;

but I felt for the rest of that day

as if I had had my feelings excited and harrowed by witnessing the struggle,

the ferocity and carnage, of a human battle before my door."

Well it's too bad my battery died.

And like Thoreau, I really don't know who won

as that battle raged on for a full another day.

But—it's just—a beautiful thing to see,

though a little bit disturbing I suppose with all the casualties.

But that's nature, right?

Anyways, coming up I have a poison ivy experiment.

Yes, I rubbed poison ivy all over myself,

which, has been just about as uncomfortable

as when I let the most venomous insects in the world—

those harvester ants—sting me over and over.

Spread some knowledge. Be nature-heroic.

Thanks for watching! Have a good one, cheers!

The Longest Boss Fights Ever In Video Games - Duration: 5:48.

There's nothing like a cartoonishly long video game boss fight to make you want to curl up

in the fetal position and rock yourself to sleep.

You know the ones we're talking about, the kind with a bajillion HP, waves of minion

underlings, and a smug air about 'em that makes you wanna kick their teeth in.

We've seen them all, so let's endure the terrible memories together as we look back at some

of the longest and most nerve-racking boss battles in gaming.

Yiazmat - Final Fantasy XII

Let's be clear: The Final Fantasy franchise is lousy with ridiculously hard bosses.

And, sure, taking on the likes of superbosses like Angra Mainyu, Omega Weapon, and Ozma

is no walk in the park.

But the dragon Yiazmat from 2006's Final Fantasy XII is a prime example of the sadistic pleasure

Square Enix derives from gamers' tears.

You see, Yiazmat boasts over 50 million health.

And when, or, rather, if, you get Yiazmat to 50 percent health, all attack damage against

him is capped at 6,999 HP, thus slowing down the battle dramatically.

Even worse, Yiazmat can fully heal himself if he manages to cast certain spells.

Real pros might be able to beat Yiazmat in about an hour, but, if you're a casual player,

be prepared to sink at least 3 or 4 hours to to get the job done.

The End - Metal Gear Solid 3

Snake's final encounter with The End in Metal Gear Solid 3 is a test of a player's skill

and endurance.

The End's sniper rifle might be fitted with tranquilizer darts instead of bullets, but

one wrong move will still put an "end" to your game.

This fight requires stealth, finesse, and patience as you try to track The End while

avoiding detection.

Most players should expect to spend a good two or three hours on this fight their first

time.

"I beg of you.

Grant me the strength to take this final prey."

If all that running around and sneaking around sounds boring, and, believe us, it drags on,

there are a few alternate routes you could take to finish the fight early.

You can snipe The End early during a cutscene, or if you're willing to keep your mitts off

your controller for a week, even force him to die of old age by saving the game and turning

your console off for 7 or more days.

"Reckless boy.

You don't deserve to meet your fate just yet."

Boss Rush and Yami - Ōkami

It may be one of the most highly rated action-adventure games of all time, but Ōkami also has one

of the most dreaded final boss sequences of all time: the "boss rush."

In this kind of final boss battle, a player must square up for a rematch with all of the

previously defeated bosses before going on to face some final big bad for the ultimate

challenge.

Ōkami stays true to the boss rush tradition; at the wreckage of the Ark of Yamato, you

must fight and defeat all of the major demons from the game again before you even see the

final boss, Yami, the demon leader who helped kill all of the gods long ago.

And that fight takes forever too!

She shifts through multiple forms and phases along the way, forcing you to switch up your

strategies to keep from getting your divine hiney whooped.

Nyx Avatar - Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3

In the final battle of social sim-slash-JRPG Persona 3, you go up against the avatar of

Nyx, the personification of Death itself, and the harbinger of the end of all life.

So, not the most forgiving boss in video game history.

"The moment man devoured the fruit of knowledge, he sealed his fate…"

Throughout the fight, the Nyx Avatar will shift through fourteen different "Arcana."

For those unfamiliar with Persona 3, that means you've gotta battle this baddie through

fourteen phases to defeat it.

Even if you manage to get to the final phase, things can still turn against you in an instant.

In its final form, Nyx Avatar has abilities that reflect all attacks and deal heavy damage.

Additionally, extremely unlucky players might get hit by Nyx's charm spell, tricking one

of your party members into giving it a full heal.

Count on this fight taking at least an hour or more to finish, especially on your first

playthrough or with an underpowered party.

"Such a pity…

You understand fate, yet you still fight against it with all of your will."

Abyssion - Tales of Symphonia

The one saving grace of Abyssion from the 2003 RPG Tales of Symphonia, and its 2014

remaster Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, is that he's completely optional.

If players were actually required to defeat Abyssion, you'd probably find a lot more used

copies of Tales of Symphonia lining your local Gamestop shelves.

In the setup to this boss fight, Abyssion sends you to retrieve the a set of cursed

weapons called the "Devil's Arms."

He claims he plans to lock these horribly evil weapons away in some deep dark place

forever.

Sounds legit, right?

"Wrong wrong wrong wrong… wrong wrong wrong wrong.

You're wrong!"

After you finally gather all of the weapons, Abyssion turns on you in a sudden yet inevitable

betrayal, and the true boss fight begins.

He can use many of your own skills against you, and many of his spells do truly incredible

amounts of damage.

Unless you get extremely lucky or have a high-level party, a successful Abyssion fight will probably

take an hour or more.

Mael Radec - Killzone 2

Instead of a long and protracted battle found in some turn-based games, the final fight

with Killzone 2's Helghast commander, Mael Radec, is a heartstopping 30-plus minutes

of bullet hell.

First, you're tasked with dealing with waves of soldiers Radec throws at you throughout

the boss fight.

Each wave is tougher than the last, and the final enemies consist of relentless waves

of elite Helghast soldiers with rocket launchers.

And then Radec finally shows up.

"You seem to want this to be personal.

It will be my pleasure."

He's an expert in both long-range and up-close combat, and his armor can withstand even a

rocket launcher blast.

Even worse, Radec comes equipped with both a teleporter and a personal cloaking device,

which makes it child's play for him to suddenly attack you from behind when you're least expecting

it.

Prepare to respawn lots of times before you get the timing and strategy on this boss battle

right.

Suicide is OUR problem - (How to help suicidal people and those suffering from mental health issues) - Duration: 7:15.

On today's episode will be speaking about suicide and mental illness and how it's not just

a first world problem or a white problem but OUR problem. So according to the

World Health Organization we know that globally more than 300

million people are suffering from depression and that every 40 seconds

somewhere in the world somebody commits suicide and that the suicide rates have

increased 60% in the last 45 years and so this has become an increasingly

bigger problem in all communities. You know and I'm so grateful that there's so

much more awareness and there was 10 years ago but I'd like to suggest that

we could even be more helpful by tweaking how we speak about suicide and

mental health in general. So often when we talk about somebody who's suffering

from depression or addiction or suicide, often it's like we see them as those

unfortunate people who need help, it's almost like we feel sorry for them or

sometimes you even hear a sense of pity. It's like we see them as the other and

not like us and I want to suggest that you know not only is that not helpful

it's sort of disrespectful and it drives more disconnection and shame for the

person who's going through difficulty. Ok so let's look at an example, so if

somebody says 'Oh I don't understand what the point of life is, I can't get out of

bed I don't feel motivated' and you know that makes you very uncomfortable and so

you respond to it 'Oh maybe you should see a mental health professional because

I don't really know how to help you.' So what that translates to the other

person is that what I'm going through must be so bad that they don't even

understand what I mean so maybe I'm beyond help

I must be messed up so that drives that I'm so lonely feeling to begin with

which increases the risk of suicide and depression but instead if you said 'Oh

I'm not sure what to say but I'm glad you told me and I'm here for you

tell me more' which is an example of an empathic response but that will more

likely to leave the person being connected

and remember there isn't really anything that you can say or do for them that can

really take away their feeling but giving them a sense of feeling that you

understand them and that they are not alone

it really goes a long way. So this is it, so that's the bottom line is that

empathy fuels connection and pity drives disconnection which makes them feel

worse and empathy is, it's a very difficult choice to make because it's

it's hard right because you have to connect to a part of yourself that knows

that feeling right you'd have to be able to connect to your own pain and so you

know it's a humbling experience and that's why a lot of people don't do it.

Ok so lets look at the difference between empathy and sympathy.

So let's look at how to practice empathy, so let's begin by looking at

the work of Theresa Wiseman and Kristin Neff, so there's like five or

six steps that we can use in order to develop empathy for the person who is struggling

I also wanted to share Pema Chodron's quote with

you, when she says that, "Compassion is not a relationship

between the healer and the wounded it's a relationship between two equals and

only what we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of

others and compassion becomes real when recognize our shared humanity"

I remember when I worked for a suicide hotline and this was at the very beginning of

my career and honestly it was just a four week simple training where all they

did was teach us how to have respect for them and not freak out and be

curious and show them sort of compassion and love and

until today always surprises me how that's all I had to do in order to take

them away from that panicky feeling and all I had to do was just show them

compassion and common humanity and again and again I would see that the panic

feeling would go away but the bottom line is that we can only do that if we

know ourselves and we know our own pain.

How to Fine Tune Your DJI Drone's EXP Settings: From Where I Drone with Dirk Dallas - Duration: 3:47.

Hey guys, this is Dirk Dallas here,

with AdoramaTV, and today

I want to show you

how you can get more aggressive, or more

smooth moves with your drone, using the

expo settings in the DJI Go app.

Alright so let's get started. I'm going to use the

DJI Mavic for this tutorial, but you can

use a DJI phantom or even the Inspire.

This is a more advanced tutorial, because

it's demonstrating how to adjust the

expo settings, which refer to the

exponential curves, found in the DJI Go App.

Adjusting the expo settings, can help

you get smoother movements when your

drone is moving backward, forward, when

it's yawning, or when it's ascending, or

descending. All right so, let's get to the

expo settings. We're going to tap on the top

right hand side of the screen, where you

see the three dots. We're going to go to the

aircraft icon. We'll scroll down, and

choose advanced settings, and then click

on the expo option that you see there...

Exp...okay so here on the graph, if I click

with my finger, I can move the shape of

this line, so I can make it really curvy,

or I can make it more straight. Basically

what you need to know is, that when

you're in this menu, the lower value

means more input is needed, the drone is

going to move slower, and more gracefully.

It's going to be less sensitive to your

stick inputs. If you tend to be harder on

your sticks, or you get nervous, or maybe

you even have accidental movements, or

you have twitches, then this could be

something that can help you as well.

A higher r-value means, that less input is

needed. So if you just barely push on the

sticks, the drone is going to move really

quickly. It's going to be more aggressive,

so the key for you is to try out

different settings, find what balance

works best for you, and another way to

set these settings is, you can just push

into the input field, and then type the

exact number that you want. I'm going to

push this to the extreme, so you can see

how this works. I'm going to kick the drone

in to Sport Mode, and I'm going to make sure

that my settings are at .90. That

means that I'm using a high number, and

that will result in a very aggressive

flight mode. So when I barely touch the

sticks, they're going to be very sensitive,

and that means the drone is going to

kick into high speed right away. So as

you can see here, I'm able to quickly

get into my moves. I can whip the drone

around, I can do really quick turns, and

this is all a result of my drone flying

more aggressively, because everything is

extra sensitive. Okay, I'm now going to

take this to the other extreme, I need to

get my drone out of sport mode, and I'm

going to input .10, this means my

drone is going to be less aggressive. So

I will really have to push on my sticks

to get movement. This can be really good

for easing into the moves as you can see

here. I can do this for yawning for going

forward, for going backward and for

ascending and descending. Now I tend to

keep mine in the .30 to .40 range,

but there are occasions where I have

lowered the value, and when I have

increased the value, sometimes I just

want to have some fun and mess around

with the flying, so I crank it up to

something really aggressive, because I

can whip that drone around really

quickly. One quick tip for those of you

that are flying with a phantom, or an

Inspire is you can actually screw the

top of the sticks, so that they extend a

little higher, so they become taller and

what that means is, when you move on

those sticks, they have to travel a

little further, because the angle is

increasing. So that could be one helpful

way for you to adjust the sensitivity to

your liking. So in closing, this is all

about how sensitive do you want your

drone to be to your inputs. Do you want

to slowly ease into your shots, or do you

want to aggressively jump into a move.

Different situations, call for different

settings. So you be the judge.

Alright guys, thanks so much

for watching AdoramaTV.

I hope that was helpful to you

I'm Dirk Dallas and I'll see you guys

next time.

How I Bought My First Rental Property - Duration: 3:36.

Hey, Kris Krohn here and today I'm going to be talking about the good the bad and

the ugly of buying my first rental property. And at the end I actually want

to share with you in the short video, the number 1 mistake that I made

that is so avoidable. I just didn't know it at the time. So, please learn from me.

So, I had a mentor give me the advice I needed to get into my first deal. And his

advice specifically was, "Kris, if you work 14 more months at this job, the

banks will say that you are credit worthy on paper. If you will get

a credit card or two and just keep paying them off every month, the banks

will say your credit worthy on paper. And number 3, I know your check to check but

you got to find a way to say $5,000 in the next 14 months." That was the advice

that I got. And I thought at the time that was really good advice. My mentor

made over 10 million dollars. So, guess what? I spent the next 14 months. I

devised a plan on how to save five grand. Friends, I was check to check. I had no

idea how it was going to happen. But I had a clear intention. 14 months later, I find

the perfect house. It's worth $150,000. I get it for

$110,000 and you know, really, everything was awesome.

It had 40 thousand dollars of equity, had a basement apartment that I put a family

member in. And it covered my home mortgage. I was living for free. The house

needed some fix-up which was a good experience for me. So, I get in there, I do

this entire deal, I'm making it happen and I ended up making $65,000

on the house. There's a lot of people would say, "Oh my gosh Chris

I would love to make $65,000." That's the good part but there's

a bad part.

Knowing what I now know how to do, I don't wait 14 months. But you

know, I don't wait 14 months to actually get out there and do a deal. I

don't wait for a bank to tell me that I'm credit worthy. I don't need to have

money in the bank. Like, I just did a multi-million dollar deal with no money

out of my pocket. And I didn't have to wait 14 months. I didn't have to build up

a certain amount of money in my bank account. I want to tell you something, the

biggest mistake that I made was thinking that the only way was the traditional

way. And if you take the traditional route, it's always going to be have 2

or 3 years of good work history at the same type of industry and job. It's

going to be making sure you got good credit. It's going to be saving up money for

a down payment. But I'm here to tell you that that is not the way it needs to be.

In fact, since then, I've almost never done any real estate that has required

anything like that. So, my first rental was like a super awesome experience. The

money I made on it was super awesome. The 14 months I waited, maybe

that's how my first deal needed to be. But with what I know today, never again.

And if I have resources to share with you and if I can help you get rolling in

real estate, then there's one objective. Help you do it as successfully as

possible. And the mentoring I offer my students, it's not about waiting time.

It's not about saving up money, it's not about, you know, restoring credit if your

credits not good or waiting to build it. That's why I've got 18 year olds and 21

year olds and I've got 30 year olds. I got young people and I got really old

people that have given up and said, "I can't do it." I've got thousands of them

that I've worked with that I've now been able to help. And I want to tell you

right now. If you really want to get the mentoring that can make the difference,

then head on over to my website, check out the link and actually see what we

can do to help you have an A+ experience in real estate because even though the

deal worked and I made a lot of money, in 14 months now, there's no telling how

many deals I'm capable of doing. I want to give you those same capabilities.

thank you guys for watching today I'll see you later.
