What can we learn from the life of Apostle Paul? | GotQuestions.org - Duration: 9:22.

Today's question is, "What can we learn from the life of Paul?

Who was Paul?"

In this video I'll answer that question from a biblical perspective.

Afterwards, as always, I'll share some helpful resources, so stick around until the end.

There is much we can learn from the life of the apostle Paul.

Far from ordinary, Paul was given the opportunity to do extraordinary things for the kingdom

of God.

The story of Paul is a story of redemption in Jesus Christ and a testimony that no one

is beyond the saving grace of the Lord.

However, to gain the full measure of the man, we must examine his dark side and what he

symbolized before becoming "the Apostle of Grace."

Paul's early life was marked by religious zeal, brutal violence, and the relentless

persecution of the early church.

Fortunately, the later years of Paul's life show a marked difference as he lived his life

for Christ and for the advancement of His kingdom.

Paul was actually born as Saul.

He was born in Tarsus in Cilicia around AD 1–5 in a province in the southeastern corner

of modern-day Tersous, Turkey.

He was of Benjamite lineage and Hebrew ancestry.

His parents were Pharisees—fervent Jewish nationalists who adhered strictly to the Law

of Moses—who sought to protect their children from "contamination" from the Gentiles.

Anything Greek would have been despised in Saul's household, yet he could speak Greek

and passable Latin.

His household would have spoken Aramaic, a derivative of Hebrew, which was the official

language of Judea.

Saul's family were Roman citizens but viewed Jerusalem as a truly sacred and holy city.

At age thirteen Saul was sent to Palestine to learn from a rabbi named Gamaliel, under

whom Saul mastered Jewish history, the Psalms, and the works of the prophets.

His education would continue for five or six years as Saul learned such things as dissecting

Scripture.

It was during this time that he developed a question-and-answer style of teaching known

in ancient times as "diatribe."

This method of articulation helped rabbis debate the finer points of Jewish law to either

defend or prosecute those who broke the law.

Saul went on to become a lawyer, and all signs pointed to his becoming a member of the Sanhedrin,

the Jewish Supreme Court of 71 men who ruled over Jewish life and religion.

Saul was zealous for his faith, and this faith did not allow for compromise.

It is this zeal that led Saul down the path of religious extremism.

In Acts 5:27–42, Peter delivered his defense of the gospel and of Jesus in front of the

Sanhedrin, which Saul would have heard.

Gamaliel was also present and delivered a message to calm the council and prevent them

from stoning Peter.

Saul might also have been present at the trial of Stephen.

He was present for his stoning and death; he held the garments of those who did the

stoning.

After Stephen's death, "a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem"

(Acts 8:1).

Saul became determined to eradicate Christians, ruthless in his pursuit as he believed he

was acting in the name of God.

Arguably, there is no one more frightening or more vicious than a religious terrorist,

especially when he believes he is doing the will of the Lord by killing innocent people.

This is exactly what Saul of Tarsus was: a religious terrorist.

Acts 8:3 states, "He began ravaging the church, entering house after house, and dragging

off men and women, he would put them in prison."

The pivotal passage in Paul's story is Acts 9:1–22, which recounts Paul's meeting

with Jesus Christ on the road from Jerusalem to Damascus, a journey of about 150 miles.

Saul was angered by what he had seen and filled with murderous rage against the Christians.

Before departing on his journey, he had asked the high priest for letters to the synagogues

in Damascus, asking for permission to bring any Christians (followers of "the Way,"

as they were known) back to Jerusalem to imprison them.

On the road Saul was caught in a bright light from heaven that caused him to fall face down

on the ground.

He heard the words, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?"

He replied, "Who are you Lord?"

Jesus answered directly and clearly, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting" (verses

4–5).

As an aside, this might not have been Saul's first encounter with Jesus, as some scholars

suggest that young Saul might have known of Jesus and that he might have actually witnessed

His death.

From that moment on, Saul's life was turned upside down.

The light of the Lord blinded him, and as he traveled on he had to rely on his companions.

As instructed by Jesus, Saul continued to Damascus to make contact with a man named

Ananias, who was hesitant at first to meet Saul because he knew Saul's reputation as

an evil man.

But the Lord told Ananias that Saul was a "chosen instrument" to carry His name

before the Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel and would suffer for doing so.

Ananias followed the Lord's instructions and found Saul, on whom he laid hands, and

told him of his vision of Jesus Christ.

Through prayer, Saul received the Holy Spirit, regained his sight, and was baptized.

Saul immediately went into the synagogues and proclaimed Jesus as the Son of God.

The people were amazed and skeptical, as Saul's reputation was well known.

The Jews thought he had come to take away the Christians, but he had in fact joined

them.

Saul's boldness increased as the Jews living in Damascus were confounded by Saul's arguments

proving that Jesus was the Christ.

Saul spent time in Arabia, Damascus, Jerusalem, Syria, and his native Cilicia, and Barnabas

enlisted his help to teach those in the church in Antioch.

Interestingly, the Christians driven out of Judea by the persecution that arose after

Stephen's death founded this multiracial church.

Saul took his first of three missionary journeys in the late AD 40s.

As he spent more time in Gentile areas, Saul began to go by his Roman name Paul.

Paul wrote many of the New Testament books.

Most theologians are in agreement that he wrote Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians,

Philippians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, Philemon, Ephesians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Timothy, and

Titus.

These thirteen "letters" (or epistles) make up the "Pauline Authorship" and are

the primary source of his theology.

As previously noted, the book of Acts gives us a historical look at Paul's life and

times.

The apostle Paul spent his life proclaiming the risen Christ Jesus throughout the Roman

world, often at great personal peril.

It is assumed that Paul died a martyr's death in the mid-to-late AD 60s in Rome.

So, what can we learn from the life of the apostle Paul?

First, we learn that God can save anyone.

The remarkable story of Paul repeats itself every day as sinful, broken people all over

the world are transformed by God's saving grace in Jesus Christ.

Some of these people have done despicable things to other human beings, while some just

try to live a moral life thinking that God will smile upon them on the day of judgment.

When we read the story of Paul, we are amazed that God would allow into heaven a religious

extremist who murdered innocent women and children.

Today, we might see terrorists or other criminals as unworthy of redemption because their crimes

against humanity are just too great.

The story of Paul is a story that can be told today—he isn't worthy in our eyes of a

second chance, yet God granted him mercy.

The truth is that every person matters to God, from the "good, decent," average

person to the "wicked, evil," degenerate one.

Only God can save a soul from hell.

Second, we learn from the life of Paul that anyone can be a humble, powerful witness for

Jesus Christ.

Arguably, no other human figure in the Bible demonstrated more humility while sharing the

gospel of Jesus Christ as Paul.

Acts 20:19 tells us that he "served the Lord with all humility and with tears and

with trials that happened to [him] through the plots of the Jews."

In Acts 28:31, Paul shares the good news of Jesus Christ: "Boldly and without hindrance

he preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ."

Paul was not afraid to tell others what the Lord had done for him.

Paul spent all his days, from conversion to martyrdom, working tirelessly for the kingdom

of God.

Finally, we learn that anyone can surrender completely to God.

Paul was fully committed to God.

In Philippians 1:12–14, Paul wrote from prison, "I want you to know, brothers, that

what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become

known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is

for Christ.

And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more

bold to speak the word without fear."

Despite his circumstances, Paul praised God and continually shared the good news.

Through his hardships and suffering, Paul knew the outcome of a life well lived for

Christ.

He had surrendered his life fully, trusting God for everything.

He wrote, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21).

Can we make the same claim?

Service Dog Rin Reviews Onetigris Tactical Vest🐕🐩🐶 - Duration: 13:14.

*Intro Music*

Hey There Guys, It's me Mantha and this is my SDiT Rin.

her training progress is now seven months and

Today we're doing a review video on the one new tigress

Tactical service dog harness. So this harness is actually in two pieces. There is the

Backing which the backing comes with a handle a metal ring

One tiger it's patch and of course a lot of velcro along with four clippable

Clips and a thing here to hold and on the other side is

Filled with just a regular mesh and then of course one Tigers and the size

Medium because we're in is a medium-sized dog. And then this is the other

Part of the vest which is pretty much the same material except there is one

square patch

So I'm pretty much just going to show you our gear setup and I'm going to have Ren model the mess and show you guys

what it looks like one tigress makes this beautiful vest gear they often make

multiple gear and this is actually for dogs that

Often military here if this makes sense

This is also good durable gear. I've had any issues with

My vest since bye they also included a patch which tells you the brand

Which is a good it's kind of an adding for your patch collection

Which if you even not want a service dog, this would be a really really good best

It's nice and tough and it does have a nice

metal ring and this is for people that touch dogs that leash there are strong pullers because

That's not coming off of there

Something else I like about the vets is a beautiful clips and the - part of the best

It's basically really really nice and it gives you simple

At simple put on simple put off

so it's a very simple like put the leash to put the harness on and put it off because you don't have to like

Put it on and then circle around and try to clip it. You just do one side and the other it's very simple

As long as you leave two up another thing about it is the nice

Very very nice coloring this is actually Ranger green

They have more colors of this such as

Black and coyote brown which those are also available for purchase. And of course, I am showing those beautiful colors besides my best

on here

They have two sizes for this vest is medium and large and unfortunately do not have small sizes

But this is a very very nice best

vest if you have a

Medium or large size dog and you want to get them a very nice durable harness to wear you can attach patches

It's a very good vest for a service dog work. We have used it ever since buying it and

honestly with all the adventures this has been on

There's been no issues. It hasn't shown any tearing it hasn't shown any

Issues whatsoever

It's been a very very well

Bought and very well sturdy best

It's also as is

Good clip. So like if you have a shelf I

Have a doorknob so I'm using an example. You can just attach it for easy attachment and

You can of course customize it to your liking with all the velcro space and of course

Just everything you to deal with it. You can add on up to like 2030 patches

I'm sure or I'm not 2030 probably like 10 I have about like maybe I have about

Like seven patches. Well actually eight with the one Tiger so I'm about ten and then I have a

Handle on reins ideally and you can also add Molly bags to it, which is something else that I do

Sometimes not very often, but I'm going to show you what that looks like. This is what it looks like with beautiful beautiful

Molly bags and this isn't the Molly bag harness

however, you can still fit Molly bags on this one if you try and

it's definitely worth it because you got the velcro space and

It's a good little vest. It's not as good as the Molly bag one

But definitely it is still a nice

Soft for vest I believe and

This is an overview of how it looks

Without to Rin wearing it. So now I'm just gonna have rain wear it just as this regular

I'm not gonna have her wear two patches and all yet

I'm going to set that stuff up, but I just wanted to show you guys my overview. This is in green

there are three colors available and this is actually Ranger green and they also have

Coyote brown and they also have a black color which are all right here

They also have these vests in a longer motion

Which are actually Molly bag harnesses in the same three colors

Except it's a little bit more expensive than this one by like ten dollars

but I am

The only downside to this to that one is that you don't have as much patch space

However, I noticed people do actually sew patches on their one. Tiger is Molly bag harnesses

Because you know, these are good I guess for like it's good for me and ran

I just don't know about the Molly bag one, but we'll we'll see in the future that

this is perfect for us because I feel like it's a good and

Best so now I'm gonna demonstrate

Ren wearing it

but

Just letting you guys know he had this vest since June and I know it's almost September and this vest has been very very good

Very it fits pretty well, except

Um, there is a wing issue

especially with rain because she's more on the smaller side of her size, but

It's okay because I think it still is really really good considering I do need a vest

That's more

Fitted for her just because of what happened with her previous one. She kind of like

gained some weight because say she was a shelter dog and she was sort of underweight and she kind of gained some weight and wasn't

Able to fit in it

So that's why I got her a new one. She was able to fitting in when I first getting her but

Then she got bitten anymore. So

Yeah

Anyway, I'm going to show you guys what ring looks like just wearing the vest just like it. So I'm going to

put it like this a

little bit more back

Put your bed soon. Come on, let's put your bedside

Ready I know you like it tonight. Well, we're just demonstrating

Come on up there you go right here

Girl

Hey, what are you doing? What?

up

Huh? That's it

And then I do the same

clipping one and

To

See like that for a second

So what the best looks like on Rin as you guys know, Rin is a more tan dog, which is by the green

matches her well

That's it looks like it's absolutely beautiful and

Just to show you guys the wing issue. That is the wing it shield hover to me

It doesn't really bother me because I just want a good comfortable vest for her that's good for her and she loves it

She sleeps in it. She's very comfortable in it. She doesn't really show like signs of wanting to be out of it

So I do enjoy it and she enjoys it. So

Basically perfect for us considering it is

Such a cheap best only at $30 for vests usually a lot more people pay more for

These sorts of us and they're not as I see me. You can also see the wing issue

I'm talking about right there a little more clearly

That comes with the smaller dogs

it fits them well when standing however when laying down

It doesn't now let's show you guys what it looks like with all our gear on it

Basically all the patches I use and the handle that I use her go to use

So now you're looking at our current best setup

So this is how the one Tiger incest is usually shown when you're out in public

Because it has more patches and of course a nice

Extra handle here, which is good for a lot of things and I do attach it for safety

Because I don't really like this one too much so I attach my own

Hell here

Are usually service dog

when ran

in Nevada, California

Arizona

And then let's handle and there's some extra space

And then the I work for her and another service dog and the one tigress patch and I'm let's say this you guys was expanding

ready stance

Right right here good girl, so it's what it looks like just to give you guys an overview

Good girl, so that's what it looks like

very very beautiful

Whoa, I know you're like what are you doing this to me today? Oh attorney found my video

So that's what it looks like

and I honestly like it because it is a beautiful piece of

Service dog gear that we own and I love it. It suits her nicely

If anyone would want me to recommend a cheap?

Service dog best for them. This would be my go to of course, I would also recommend

active dogs

but my main one it would be the want tigress only because um

You don't have to worry about it being too small because if you buy a medium, it's gonna fit all medium

I know if you buy a large it's gonna fit up to I

Think even extra large jug, so it's very adjustable in my opinion

The only thing that might be a turn-off for some buyers of this is of course the wing

But if you don't really care about that, then this is definitely the best for you

So let me go ahead and to get off of her now, okay?

Guys so this was my review on the one tigress

tactical harness ideally for service dogs and other animals

Well service dogs and other dogs

Definitely a beautiful vest I give it five stars out of five stars if you want to buy one. I have a linked to chewy

Which is where I actually bought rings. I actually bought it on chewy calm. So definitely go check that out and

Yep

See you guys next time. Bye

So you Byron?

She says bike

Pandesal Recipe (Filipino Food) - Duration: 4:45.

What's up guys! Today

we're gonna show you how we make sweet Filipino bread rolls, also known as, Pandesal.

It took us a couple tries to get this recipe down,

mainly because we're not professional bakers and there's a bit of chemistry and timing that goes into it. But, we eventually succeeded.

To start, pour in 1/2 a cup of milk into a bowl. And

microwave it for about 30 seconds or until it's warm to the touch.

It's super important that it's not too hot or too cold

because next you'll want to pour in half a tablespoon of dry activity.

Then drop in half the tablespoon of sugar. And mix

it around.

The temperature of your milk should be around 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

Otherwise, your yeast may not activate.

Allow the yeast to activate over a span of 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a new mixing bowl, pour in two and a half cups of bread flour,

half a cup of sugar, and

3/4 of a teaspoon of salt.

Thoroughly stir everything together. And then create a well in the center, which we'll use to contain the wet ingredients later.

In a new bowl, pour in half a cup of milk. And

then add two tablespoons of unsalted butter. We ended up cutting the butter into smaller cubes so that when we heat them up,

they'll melt a little quicker and more easily.

So now, microwave your milk and butter for about a minute or so until the butter is fully melted.

When it's done, give it a little stir and

add in 1/4 of a cup of milk.

This milk will help the mixture cool down a bit, so that when you add in your egg,

you won't run the risk of possibly cooking it.

Next, just whisk everything together.

When you're 15-minute wait for the yeast to activate is up,

pour in and whisk your milk butter and egg mixture into the yeast mixture.

Afterwards take that mixture and pour it into the well you made in the dry ingredients.

Gently introduce the flour into the liquid. And

then eventually while having one hand cup, sweep the inside of the perimeter and then fold it into the center.

Continue to mix it this way until there's no dry flour left.

At this point, your dough should feel goopy and sticky.

Now you want to gradually add half a cup of bread flour.

After each sprinkle, knead the flour into the dough until there's no dry flour.

And repeat until you've incorporated all of the bread flour.

Once you're done, cover it with a damp cloth and allow it to rise for about 45 minutes in a warm draft-free area.

After your dough is done rising, flour your kneading surface with bread flour.

If done correctly, your dough should have doubled in size.

Now go ahead and take your dough and drop it onto your floured surface.

Sprinkle a little more bread flour on top and start kneading it.

Just take the top end and fold it over itself. Then push it forward and

turn as needed.

Keep kneading it until your dough is smooth and can hold it's shape.

Next, cut your dough in half

and take one half

and roll it back into itself.

Then squish it to seal the end.

Repeat these steps two to three times until your dough is shaped like a log.

You might have to reshape it a little at the end to even it out.

At this point take a knife or a dough cutter and cut your dough into about one and a half inch wide pieces.

Now take your pieces and roll them in bread crumbs. And

then arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Repeat this process with the other half of your dough.

Ideally your Pandesal are all the same size.

When you're done, allow it to rise again in a warm draft-free area.

Allow your Pandesal to rise for another hour.

Once they've risen, it's finally time to start baking.

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees. And bake

Your Pandesal for about 14 to 16 minutes. And now you have a tray of freshly baked Pandesal.

We like to think that Pandesal is the kind of bread that you can eat whenever with whatever.

One of our favorite go to snacks is a freshly toasted Pandesal with a generous spread of Nutella.

It's talagang tasty!

How To Use White & Grey Furniture Wax On Painted Furniture | Country Chic Paint - Duration: 5:57.

hey there today I want to show you how to use white wax and grey wax to add

special effects to your furniture pieces so stay tuned

in the country chic paint line we have lots of different wax colors we have of

course our natural wax but we also have antiquing wax black wax grey wax we have

pearl wax gold wax and then today we're showing you the white wax and grey wax

furniture wax adds a protective coating to your furniture and it also adds

special effects with the different colors today I'd like to demonstrate how

the white wax looks on this candle stick that we painted in driftwood before you

apply wax you want to let you piece dry for about 24 hours and the easiest way

to apply it is with one of our wax brushes this is our large country chic

paint wax brush and you simply will twist it around inside the jar and

you'll you might notice that wax is quite solid because our wax does not

contain any mineral solvents so our wax is all-natural with pigments and it just

means that you have to push a little bit harder to get the paint to to get the

wax to come out but if you want it a bit softer you can always add some to a

little microwave-safe plate put it in a microwave for a few seconds not too long

you don't want it all liquid and it just becomes easier to work with that way too

ok so what you're gonna do is simply brush on the wax and really push it into

all the crevices

and you'll notice with our wax that you're going to use a lot less than with

some other waxes because it is a little bit harder and not so liquid you're just

going to end up using a lot less

you can also use a cloth to apply the wax but the brush makes it a lot easier

to get it into all these little nooks and crannies which is exactly where you

would like your wax to go okay so I've fully waxed this

candlestick now so I'll put this away and then I'm going to use a lint-free

rag to remove the excess wax and to buff it and you'll see that the more you buff

it the more shine it adds as well

so that is our driftwood candlestick with white wax now for our next

candlestick we're going to use grey wax this candlestick was painted in the

color sunday tea which is a lovely subtle neutral color and definitely one

you should try out if you haven't already so I will put the white wax away

now and again you're just going to swirl your wax brush around

and you're gonna really you'll see how concentrated the wax is it has quite a

lot of pigment in it so you're not going to be using a lot

I did all of that with just one dip into the jar

okay so now we've grey waxed this whole candlestick and that means it's time to

use our rag and remove all the excess wax

as you can see it creates a lot of depth in your piece and it's so much more

interesting just than a flat finish

okay I think I'm happy with how that looks so that was our grey wax as well

as our white wax and you can see how much depth and character it adds to your

projects you should also try our other wax colors because there are so many to

play with keep in mind that it takes about three to four weeks for your wax

to fully fully cure it has a natural drying oil but it doesn't contain any

chemical dryers that speed up the drying process so make sure you keep that in

mind if you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to us

anytime happy painting

we are officially handcuffed

"So meet Chunkz. Me and him go way back, we've been making videos together for the last 3 years, and he even cut my hair when we first met. I'm proud to call him my best friend"

"But there's one thing. Recently he's been getting more and more popular and he's been hanging around with me less and less. And that, that kinda hurts."

"So I've come up with the perfect plan! I'm going to order some handcuffs and when they arrive tomorrow morning, i'm going to head over to his house and FORCE him to hang out with me the only way I know how AND THAT IS BY…. well its by being handcuffed together, you already knew that"

Juan Bernat transfers from Bayern to PSG on Deadline Day - Duration: 2:52.

For days there were speculations, now Bayern Munich has confirmed the rumors.

On the last day of the summer transfer window Juan Bernat will leave Germany's record champions and join Paris St.-Germain.

The Spaniard who joined Bayern in 2014 and celebrated four championships

and a DFB-Cup trophy will transfer to PSG immediately

and play for German coach Thomas Tuchel.

For the future all the best and thank you, Juan Bernat.

Yesterday evening the draw for this season's Champions League group stage took place and

with AEK Athens, Ajax Amsterdam and Benfica Lisbon Niko Kovac' team faces an interesting

but achievable challenge as FC Bayern players and club officials confirmed earlier today.

Of course we drew traditional clubs with big names but

I am obviously convinced that we are the favorites in this group nonetheless.

We will try everything to win this group.

That is our goal.

Two years ago we played against a Dutch team for the first time.

It was against Eindhoven, my old team.

Now we're playing Dutch opposition for the second time, now it's Amsterdam

and it's always great

for me to return to Holland.

It`s a good group, attractive opponents, traditional clubs.

We're looking forward to the group stage.

Coach Niko Kovac is looking forward to the Champions League group stage which Bayern Munich

will compete in with the new steel-grey Champions League shirt

which is already available in the FC Bayern online store.

The European competition begins in two-and-a-half weeks already

but first Bayern will take part in a real highlight game this weekend when

the Reds travel to Stuttgart for the South-German derby.

It's Stuttgart's first home game and last season they remained unbeaten under Korkut.

We will certainly have to go to the limit on Saturday.

We will do just that because we want to win

but it will certainly not be easy.

To appear in a Bundesliga or Champions League game is the dream of every young football player.

Now the participants of the Allianz Junior Football Camp had the opportunity to at least take a small step

towards making that dream come true. Next to several training sessions the young participants

had the chance to meet club icon Oliver Kahn as well as the current Bayern stars Jerome Boateng,

Thomas Müller, Thiago, Arjen Robben and Corentin Tolisso.

At least in terms of passion and motivation an ideal start

for these young football talents.

A New Kind of Northern Light | SciShow News - Duration: 5:07.

[ ♪ Intro ]

In places like southern Canada, a glowing, purple ribbon of light sometimes crosses the sky.

It's pretty faint, and it sometimes has these green spikes called the picket fence.

It's also pretty speedy, moving steadily east to west about six-and-a-half kilometers per second.

Citizen scientists and photographers have known about it for a long time,

because it keeps photobombing their pictures of auroras.

And after years of seeing it, they even gave it a name: Steve, after the scene from the movie Over the Hedge.

But they just assumed it was a funny kind of aurora, or at least something similar.

Then, in 2016, Steve caught the attention of professional scientists,

who realized this streak might be something new.

And last Monday, one team published a paper in Geophysical Research Letters with the newest explanation for it.

According to their results, Steve… is like nothing we've ever seen before.

It might be a whole new kind of northern light.

Even though citizens scientists kind of named this streak as a joke, scientists decided to roll with it,

and they formally called this light the Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement.

Which is pretty amazing.

They could immediately tell it was different from normal auroras for a few reasons.

First, auroras usually only appear at lower latitudes during periods of especially high solar activity,

but STEVE is a consistently lower-latitude event.

And its shape and speed don't really match other auroras, which tend to be broader, undulating structures.

Plus, auroras tend to be green or red; purple usually only shows up in extreme cases.

Because of this, scientists wondered if there was a unique mechanism at play.

Earlier this year, one team published the first explanation for STEVE.

They suggested it might be caused by something called a subauroral ion drift, or SAID.

SAIDs aren't auroras: Instead, they're fast, westward flows of charged gas associated with solar storms.

That sounds a lot like our purple streak, but STEVE doesn't only appear during solar storms,

and it moves much faster than SAIDs typically do.

SAIDs also rarely produce visible light emissions.

So in last week's paper, another team took a different approach to the mystery.

Since the SAID hypothesis already had some holes in it,

the group wanted to see if STEVE could be formally considered an aurora, even if it was an unusual one.

Auroras happen when energetic electrons and protons from the Sun precipitate through the Earth's atmosphere,

exciting those gases and making them glow.

So if STEVE is an auroral event, then scientists should be able to detect these particles when the streak appears.

The paper's authors used ground-based and satellite data taken during one of STEVE's 2008 appearances to try and hunt them down.

Except, there wasn't much, at least, in the way of energetic particles.

So that rules out STEVE as an aurora.

That means, at least right now, this purple light is in a class all its own.

It's just… a STEVE, probably driven by its own special mechanism.

But that doesn't mean we'll stop investigating it.

The next steps are to study more STEVE events,

since scientists have only really looked at two of them so far.

And ideally, that will help us not just understand this light,

but how the Sun creates different kinds of auroras in general.

While those scientists keep working on that mystery, another team is celebrating a new discovery.

According to a paper published in PNAS last Monday,

researchers have found direct evidence of water ice on the surface of the Moon!

And that could be big news for future explorers.

The new discovery was made thanks to Chandrayaan-1,

a lunar orbiter launched in 2008 by the Indian Space Research Organization.

Its payloads mostly focused on mapping and studying the Moon's composition,

and it did some really cool science for almost a year before a communication failure ended the mission.

The data for this new paper specifically came from the orbiter's M3 instrument,

or the Moon Mineralogy Mapper, which was built by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

It's a type of spectrometer,

which means it measured the wavelengths of light that reflected off the Moon's surface

and used them to determine composition.

About ten years ago, back when Chandrayaan-1 was still active,

M3 found some evidence for water ice on the surface, which was really exciting.

But the evidence was pretty indirect, and it wasn't obvious just how much ice there was.

Plus, that data included water that was part of hydrated minerals,

so it wasn't pure ice or anything.

But now, things seem different.

This newly-analyzed data directly confirmed the presence of that ice,

and it also suggests that at least some of it could be pure water,

although more observations would help pin that down.

These ice deposits are scattered around the Moon's north and south poles,

and a lot of it is in shadowy southern craters.

There, it never sees the light of day, thanks to how the Moon is tilted relative to the Sun.

That keeps the ice from melting and makes the deposits relatively nice and accessible.

So far, we don't really know how all that ice got there or how old it is.

But this icy discovery is really promising for future missions.

As of right now, NASA is planning to send people back to the Moon,

so this ice could potentially become a source of drinking water.

But maybe more importantly, if we can split it into hydrogen and oxygen on a large scale,

it could also be used for rocket fuel.

The Moon could be an interplanetary gas station! Well, someday.

There's still a long way to go, but thankfully, that ice doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Thanks for watching this episode of SciShow Space News!

And thanks especially to our Patrons who make it possible for us to research new science and create this videos for you.

Thank you!

And if your name is Steve or Chandrayaan, let us know in the comments, because awesome.
