How Record Labels are STEALING From Your Favorite Rapper & Artist! - Duration: 6:46.

What's poppin yall; Record Labels are STEALING from your favorite artist, depending on how

you look at it. I recently made a video titled why your favorite rapper is broke and if you

haven't seen it go and watch that now before this video so it all makes sense; it will

be in the cards and description. Plenty of people must have thought I'm bozo the clown

or something typing like a buncha retards in the comments telling me that most artist's

money comes from touring, merchandise, and endorsements. DUH! It's always been this

way, artists barely made money off their music even when it was selling well.

But before we get into how record labels are stealing from your favorite artist please

give the video a like; subscribe and MOST IMPORTANTLY hit the notification bell so you

will NEVER miss a video. I upload every Monday and Wednesday and sometimes Fridays and Saturday's

too. After labels started losing money since record

sales declined; from its peak at 1999 with $14.5 BILLION dollars to 2012 with $7 billion

dollars, a 50% drop. The labels noticed sales going down years before this and needed to

figure out a way to make up for the fact that music was not going to be bought anymore.

One of the earliest if not the first time the 360 deal was introduced was by Jeff Hanson

a music executive along with his lawyers Jim Zumwalt and Kent Marcus to none other than

Atlantic Records. It was for the band Paramore, and initially the labels were against it but

he convinced them and after losing millions in up front investment on Paramore they raked

in the cash. What is a 360 Deal? I'm not mad many of

you have no idea what it is even though you hear the term all the time and try to tell

me artists make most of their money on touring and merchandise because even Lil Yachty had

no idea he was in a 360 deal and he's a rapper. So if an artist isn't sure what

deal they're in I wouldn't expect a fan to. A 360 deal builds on the old record deal

and in addition to getting money from the music, the label also gets a percentage for

damn near everything the artist does. That includes merchandise, touring and performances,

digital products, publishing, endorsements, and all the rest from tv appearances, books,

and all that. Now these percentages are not all the same for artists but in general the

standard looks something like this: 50% of merch, 25% of touring/performances, 25% of

digital products, 25% publishing, 25% endorsements, 25% anything else. Remember 50 Cent's Vitamin

Water deal? He made so much money off that, if he was in a 360 deal the label would have

gotten a percentage of that. This might sound outrageous to some of you

and for some of you this might not sound so bad you get to keep a majority of all the

profits right? Well remember what I said in my "your favorite rapper is broke video",

all of this is taken by the label and then you still have to pay your lawyers, accountants,

manager, tour manager, security if you have any, publicist and anyone else on your team,

AND your taxes. And most of those jobs I just named don't get paid a flat rate they get

a percentage so do you see how quickly that all adds up or to better phrase it… eats

away at all the money you are generating. So when you hear $30k a show and you count

all these dates and multiply them you think the artist is taking that all home when in

reality it's 30k that they're GROSSING from a show and that's if they're not

exaggerating which they usually are. What they're taking home is only a small percentage

of that. 360 deals are not just something labels are

doing though; Live nation, the event promoters that own ticketmaster do a deal like this

with most artists. Notable ones being Madonna's tour in 2007 and Jay-Z's in 2008.

Some people might be fuming, throwing their fists up in the air, saying how could a label

do this? They are THIEVES, SCUM, and a bunch of other reactions similar to that. But I'm

fair so we have to also look at it from the labels perspective; what is it that they're

providing that makes it worth it for them to take so much money. The labels are giving

the artist financial support; in addition to the advance they're giving marketing,

promotion, touring, etc. As an artist you don't really have capital early on in your

career, so the label would for example pay to put you on worldstarhiphop, pay to get

you on Genius, get you interviews at these radio stations, and overall promote you. So

when people say that it's unfair that labels take a percentage of everything an artist

does, a common defense is that this artist wouldn't have the image or fans to be able

to get endorsements, sell this merch, and the rest if it weren't due to the label

putting the money into them and promoting them up until this point so it's only fair

they get a cut of what they helped build. It's kind of like they're making an investment

in you; but it's not, because investors share in the risk with a business. The label

is going to get its money back; you HAVE to pay all this money back that they put into

you in the beginning unless they drop you or sell your contract which the first is VERY

unlikely to happen. The 360 deal right now is the standard recording

deal; people negotiate the terms of it but most rappers and artists in general are on

this. It isn't that bad if you end up becoming a star though, because you didn't have anything

in the beginning and the label put money into you and it was a huge success so you're

making a lot of money now. That's what happened with Lady Gaga and Lorde, nobody knew who

they were before they were signed and their labels put so much money into promoting them

and it paid off big time. But it's becoming less and less common for labels to sign artists

that are absolutely unknown, if they're signing someone they usually have a strong

following to do music full time ANYWAY, so the "investment" is really more of a guarantee.

The seeds have already been planting and are sprouting, all the label has to do is a little

watering and sprinkle very little money into them and they make a HUGE return on investment.

Look at Juice WRLD, he got signed right before he blew up the label probably didn't have

to put much money in him and now they're making a HUGE amount of money for a very low

up front investment. I wanna hear what you have to say though;

are 360 deals fair and did I help explain it in a way that isn't one sided towards

the artist or label? Lemme know in the comments. Like and subscribe and hit that notification

bell if you enjoyed, thank you for watching, peace!

While we devotin'

Down here all the fish is happy

As off through the waves they roll

The fish on the land ain't happy

They sad 'cause they in their bowl

But fish in the bowl is lucky

One day when the boss get hungry

Guess who's gon' be on the plate?

Turn Around

Turn Around

Sherri Zu

Our life is like this stage.

It is bright.

But sometimes, it's scary.

It's easy to turn your back on your fear.

But it's hard to turn around.

Contest chair, my friends,

if you cannot see me on this stage, please just focus on the screens.

I'm a little scared right now.

Have you ever turned your back on someone or something because you are scared?

When I was seven, I was only afraid of two people:

my mom and dad.

One night, we were having noodles for dinner.

I could feel the soft light in the dining room,

smell the tomato sauce and hear my mom's voice.

Sherri, put all the chopsticks on the table.

Yes and Yum!

Mom, Dad, let's eat!

I was eating, my parents were talking. But suddenly:

What's wrong with you!

My mom stood up.

My dad's eyes grew wide.

Don't do this in front the kid!

I heard some bad words I didn't know the meaning of.

And some bad words I wish I didn't know the meaning of.

All of a sudden, my mom knocked all the bowls and plates on the floor.

Red tomoto sauce splashed all over the wall.

Mom? Dad?

Stop fighting, please.

I'm scared.

My mom look at me.

Sherri, I'm leaving.

Who do you want to live with? Mom or Dad. Pick one.

Can you imagine how I felt?

Pick one?

I turned around and ran to my room.

I heard my mom slam the door and left.

My dad came into my room and sat next to me.

Baby,

I know it's hard, but I have to ask you a serious question.

Do you know how to clean off the tomato sauce on the wall?

Two months later, my mom came back.

The home sweet home became a battlefield again.

And that war continued for 15 years.

After college, I escaped to live in the big city

alone.

People and relationships – they're scary.

But when I turned my back on them, my dark, lonely shadow scared me even more.

I was miserable.

And my only friend, Lily, told me: Sherri, come with me to Toastmasters.

So, I went to Toastmasters.

Such a scary place!

So many people clap their hands for no reason!

A guy, named Jim, approached me. His little eyes were sparking.

Sherri, if you want to know more about Toastmasters,

you and I can have dinner together.

Is he asking me out?

It's like a movie...

a horror movie!

But, the more I got to know about Jim, the more I felt

he's cute, funny and warm-hearted.

But then, I heard a little voice: You can't handle a relationship!

You're going to hurt him AND yourself.

I turned my back on Jim.

Let's just be friends.

Sherri, why?

I don't want to ask my child one day "Mom or Dad? Pick one."

Sherri, we are not your parents.

We are competent communicators.

What scares you now may bring you the most beautiful thing.

Give it a chance and turn around.

Jim held my arms and turned me around and look at him in the eye.

Wow, it's not that scary anymore.

Jim turned my world around, and now we are happily married.

Do you know what it's like to marry a Toastmaster?

All of our conversations are five to seven minutes long.

I'm not even afraid of my parents anymore.

Jim and I became their marriage consultants.

I am scared now,

but I wouldn't want to miss all your beautiful, smiling faces.

Are you turning your back on your fear?

Our life is like this stage,

but what scares you now may bring you the most beautiful thing.

Give it a chance and just…

Youtube birthday. FREE GIVEAWAY - Duration: 12:27.

Happy stuff and fluff is 12 months old

Hi, my name is Christine L Conroy

Welcome to happy stuff and fluff a channel for women over 50 who are getting happy and growing younger

If you haven't subscribed

Please consider doing so and remember to hit the little bell so that you'll be notified when a new video comes out

So, Happy birthday, Happy stuff and fluff. I can't believe it's been 12 months

And I've loved every minute of it

Despite the fact that

It can be very frustrating at times, especially when you're not kind of particularly

technically oriented as

I'm not and so I've had lots of trial and error and

learning as I go along

And I'm still learning because there is so much to learn. And I might just say if any of you are considering

your own channel, I

Came into it totally

naively. There is a lot of work involved. The best bit, of course, is actually is actually the content

but it's also the most difficult bit too because I'm always trying to think of something to

talk to you about that you're going to find useful

every week, you know, I know obviously clearly I'm a woman over 50 too I mean over 50....too

So I know the kind of things that would help me,but sometimes

you know because that's what I'm here for. That's what the channels all about, finding things

that are going to help you to get happy and grow younger. So that's the the challenging part,

but also the best part and I have loved every minute of it and I'm going to do a giveaway.

But I just want to tell you a little story

Something that I've just been doing.

As you know, all those of you who've been with me a while

we have just moved house from well, four months ago, from the country to the city and

during that whole story there has been lots of

coincidences happen and serendipity and

all kinds of interesting strange things that they've kind of helped us to move along if you will. One of them

Is this story.

The people who actually bought our house were a couple that I

like to think we actually choose to buy, I know this is going to sound ridiculous before I even say it,

but I knew when we put the house up for sale that I wasn't gonna let anybody buy it, that I didn't really like

and

fortunately

Some couples came around who were okay, but then when this particular young couple came in I knew straight away

I wanted them to buy it and

as it turned out they also fell in love with the house and wanted to buy it. And so that was, that was lucky.

Also, the house was very old and we thought it would take a long time

you know, to thrash out things like, I don't know structural issues or anything like that. So we thought we had a long time to...

the process would be a long time. It wasn't. It happened very quickly.

And, of course, also during that time Charlotte became very ill and so the actual house moving kind of took a backseat

but of course every now and then I think what we really must think of where we want to go and

where we're going to move to. And then we had a conversation where, whenever we come into the city

to eat would always said, oh it would be nice at some point to have a place in the city, perhaps.

So we toyed with the idea a little bit. So we started to look for

apartments online, but

It's not something I enjoy doing and they were we were looking through them. We couldn't find anything

We liked and the ones we did like were far too expensive and so on and so I would stop looking

but time went on and

Then we saw one

We thought right we'd better go and have a look at this because we do need to move.

So, that very weekend the couple who were buying the house asked could there bring their family to see the house too.

So they came and they were having a look around and she said, where are you going to move to?

And I told her we didn't know and I said incidentally we're going to look at an apartment

In the city in this particular area. Do you know anything about this area? And she said - that's where we live!

That's where we live. That building is just behind the building we're in. And then she asked us what he what kind of apartment are you?

looking for, and we told her,and she said

come and have a look our apartment. It's exactly what you're looking for.

So we came to the city. The minute we walked into the apartment

we knew it was for us and that was that. So they moved into our house and we moved into theirs.

Which was quite interesting and

So we're kind of the 'oldies' moving into the city.

Which is apparently a trend at the moment. And our local newspaper

caught hold of the fact that we'd moved from the country into the city and asked could they come to talk to us about it?

Which they did. But when they heard the story that we'd literally done a life swap if you like

I

like to say it's the young people have gone to live in the old house and the old people have come to live in the

new one it's not quite like that, but

So they wanted to do a bigger story.

There is a point to be telling you this because that's what we've been doing this afternoon.

So they want to do a bigger story and the couple who bought our house agreed it would be fun to do.

So they just said oh we'll send a photographer around who will take a photograph of

sort of, me and mr. Kitchen in our apartment and the other couple in the house. So Mr.

Kitchen agreed to it because, he hates having his photograph taken, and I don't really like but REALLY, Mr.

Kitchen does not like having his photograph taken. But he agreed to do it.

So the photographer has just been and I promise you we've been posing for over an hour

He had us looking into each other's eyes

holding hands, on the balcony gazing into the distance

Skipping across the grass at the front, okay

Well, not quite skipping but walking across the grass of the front and then and then he did this thing

you know, the photographer where they get down on the floor and he's saying things like

Keep walking keep walking and he's taking pictures. Well, I looked at Mr. Kitchen's face, which had written all over it

What have you done to me, again? Why do I always listen to you? What am I doing here?

And what is this man doing on the floor? Oh, it was just so funny. I just collapsed with laughter

It was just great fun. Granted, most of it at

Mr. Kitchens discomfort.

But he was a great photographer and I desperately hope he got some decent photographs because

Mr. Kitchen was really out of his comfort zone but did incredibly well and it was just so funny. So that's what we've just done

And that's going to go into the local newspaper. When it comes out. I will

find a way to show you might be able to do it digitally or at least show you the pictures when they come out

So that's what how I've spent this afternoon. Of course the rain came down and it was windy and oh

Just made me laugh so much. Okay, so back to Happy stuff in the fluff then and

Yeah, it's great to be able to share stories like that with you, too.

The fluff part of Happy stuff and fluff. Ok. So what's in the giveaway then well, first of all

I'd like to

I'd like to include this meditation journal

This isn't the exact same one

but

this is a meditation journal that I created for myself to begin with because I meditate ,and you'll know if you're a

beginner at meditation or a seasoned meditator that your mind, when you sit to meditate, your mind starts to wander.

Well, I want to use meditation to help me in my

life off the seat as it were in my real life. And so

what used to happen to me was I would start to meditate and I'd have a thought come up and then,

perhaps, in another meditation the same thought would come up and then the same, and so I started to write these thoughts down

Thinking if these thoughts keep coming up I need to do something about them

so I started to after, after the meditation I would write down any of the thoughts that had come up during meditation and

Anything I thought I needed to work on in reality and in real life I would work on

and eventually the thoughts those particular thoughts would stop coming up in the meditation because I'd clearly dealt with them and

So very often anything that's repeated that keeps coming up and keeps coming up

It's good to have a look at and say well I clearly need to do something about it

And so that's what this meditation will help you to do, meditation journal will help you to do. It says it's for beginners

but that's simply because it's a simple journal.

It literally has lines for you to write in to record the time, the date, and the duration

There's a few quotation steps in there, quotations in there ,rather, to keep you moving along and also an action steps.

So write down the thought and then consider the actions you need to take to try and work through that particular issue and put those

action steps down. And if you've got that recorded, you can always come back to see how, how much progress you've made.

So I'm going to include that in the giveaway.

Also, it goes without saying that

Stitch Your own Silver Linings is going to be included.

I'm going to sign this, but what I will do because I know quite a few of you have bought the book already,

Thank you very much for that

So what I'll do is I'll wait until the winners been chosen and I've contacted you and then you can tell me whether you

want me to sign this to you, or if you want to give it as a gift to someone I can sign it and

use their name to do that. So I'll do that for you. And another little thing that I'm quite excited about.

This is my phone, which I dropped

practically within the first week. I got it and

damaged the screen and then got that sorted and dropped it again

And my family was saying get a phone cover, get a phone protector. So I did but I didn't just get any

phone cover. I got this one. And I'm going to include one for you.

So what it says on there is, Do happy stuff, there it is

Do happy stuff and fluff because, as we know on this channel it isn't about 'being

happy' or 'becoming happy'

It's about taking action and 'doing happy' and this phone case is going to remind you to do that.

So that's a phone case for

It's an I6 phone phone case

And again if you don't happen to have that particular phone

but you know someone who does it will come in very handy as a nice little gift.

So that's the giveaway. So again, happy birthday

Happy stuff and fluff and here's to many more of them

All I want you to do in order to

be the winner of the giveaway is to tell me which of the videos over the last 12 months and you have over

52 videos to choose from or any

specific thing that I've said or you've learned or you may have a favorite single video tell me about that in the

Comments below and we'll choose which one and you will get those three things

Okay

so that's choose either a video that you particularly liked over the last 12 months or

something specific that I've said that's resonated with you or that was your favourite or that helped you, in any way.

Tell me about it and

We'll choose the winner

Okay

Okay, so I'm delighted to still be here twelve months later. And as I say, I hope to be here 10 years down the line

Okay

Till the next time remember that on the happy stuff and fluff. We are getting happy and growing younger. Thank you so much for watching. You know I appreciate you.
