Waching daily Aug 28 2018

All right. We've been invited to a farm in Valença Bahia to check out some

of the farming process. Especially cacao which is the cocoa bean which is how

chocolate is made. So come with me and let's check out the whole process.

We are an American family of 7 living working and loving Brazil.

Welcome to the adventures of Our Brazilian Life.

Cocoa. This is where the chocolate comes from. Inside there's a seed. You dry

out that seed and that's where the chocolate comes from.

Here are the cacau beans. And here is our newest employee, Chani.

And here, she will take and experiment. If you eat it, it is more expensive.

So we're cutting open the cocoa. Taking out the seads the middle.

Then it will stay in this hot house to dry out.

These are chocolate seeds. And this is the fruit. It's really sweet and yummy.

And once it is dried, it gets processed into chocolate.

Bahia produces 95% of the chocolate in Brazil.

So we are speading the chocolate seeds out on the ground. This is a greenhouse.

We are speading them out so they will dry on the floor in here. It takes about 2 or 3 days.

And then it's ready to go to market.

This is really good.

When it is all dry, you throw it down here? Yes.

We're in a greenhouse right now. They're just finishing up harvesting they're

pimenta and we just did a little bit of chocolate. Here is a little hole all the

way down to the bottom. They fill, they push all the seeds down there, and

then they fill it up with sacks down at the bottom. It's pretty cool.

Okay we just came from the hot house up there on top of the roof. This is that drainage

pipe. That pipe where once all the seeds are dried they sweep them all

down this pipe. They put a bag right under here and it fills up a bag right here.

Here is a bag thats been filled up with all the seeds, all the cocoa.

That's awesome. (Chani)

There's the cocoa. (chani) That's chocolate!

This fresh Brazil chocolate.

We've been through the whole farming process of cocoa.

We saw the trees from the very infancy, from where they're planted.

To the tree the fully grown trees. To harvesting the trees, drying out

the seeds and getting them ready for market. We had a great time here with

Marcos and his family. All right now you guys have seen the whole process of the

chocolate beans or the cacau here at the farm. If you want to see the

chocolate beans at the factory click on this link right here. Where the chocolate

is turned into chocolate bars. All right, thanks for following us and we'll see you later.

MSC Fun Pass - What We Learned - Duration: 5:33.

Today's episode is sponsored by CruiseLine.Com where you can find reviews tips and

photos from real everyday cruisers hey cruisers welcome onboard

MSC seaside when we stepped foot on this ship we were really curious to learn all

about the fun pass the fun pass covers a few different areas of entertainment for

families on this ship the 5d or XD cinema depending on where you look

the bowling the zipline the billiards area the f1 simulator and the video

games so what's so interesting about the fun pass is that it's something that you

can buy at several different levels if you'd like to save some money on these

different areas of entertainment for you and your family now in general when you

purchase a fun pass you can apply it to everyone in your cabin or your family

you can distribute it however you want now as always I want to give you a

little bit of a disclaimer here that these types of packages can change so

when you get on board your MSC cruise ship make sure that you do a little bit

of research with the staff at the the fun Pass area or the entertainment or

arcade area to find out what their current offerings are because as with

anything these can change but for now I want to go over the different levels

that are offered for the fun pass how much they cost and what they include and

why you might want to buy them now there are four levels that you can currently

buy here on MSC seaside the first one is to spend $25 and to get a $5 bonus on

top of that so think of this like a bank account so you're going to be spending

$25 but you're getting $35 in credit that you can apply towards any of the

activities that I mentioned and as you apply them your balance goes down so

that's the first and lowest level that you could use for your party the second

level is to spend $50 and get $15 in credit to use towards these activities

so you're actually getting a $65 total for $50 the third level is to spend $70

and to get a $30 credit I think this might be pretty popular so you're

getting $100 total credit for $70 and the last and highest level for the

amusement area is to spend $100 and get a $60 credit so you're actually getting

160 dollars to apply towards billiards XD cinema the zip lines all that good

stuff now let's talk about the pricing for each of those individual items so

you know how you might want to apply some of this fun pass credit and if it

might work for you and your family for example the Formula one simulator which

is really fun by the way is ten dollars per person per ride the interactive XD

cinema for adults is ten dollars per ride and for kids it's eight dollars

bowling is twenty five dollars for a 30-minute session a one-hour session is

forty five and shoe rental is two dollars per pair and then we have

billiards at $10 per person now you can now use the zipline credits towards let

me rephrase that you can now use your fun pass for your zipline credits as

well so I'll tell you what the individual pricing would be for the

ziplining you can decide if you think the fun pass would help you out so if

you wanted to do a single ride on the zipline here on msec side that would be

five dollars now if you bought a cruise past you could do unlimited zip lines

for twenty dollars so for some families it might make more sense to buy the fun

pass and go on a few zipline rides using the fun pass all right so hopefully this

didn't confuse all of you guys because I know it's a lot of information but it's

a really cool opportunity to get in and enjoy these activities on MSc seaside I

want to give you a few extra tips for enjoying that what they call kind of the

amusement area number one on embarkation day make sure you go down and introduce

yourself to the arcade or amusement staff that's down there in the arcade

level they are super helpful and professional people and they can totally

outline the different options for you and help you to make reservations now

our understanding as of right now is that you can only make reservations for

these activities day of so for example if you want to go bowling you can't make

a reservation for three days in advance you have to make it for the day of

another thing that you should be aware of is that they have very set and

specific times that the amusement area is open they closed down during

mealtimes as one example and another example would be that they vary their

opening times based on whether or not is a port day or a sea day so here's an

example of what some traditional bowling and the XD cinema times might be for

example our first sea day the bowling and xd cinema were open from 11 a.m. to 6

p.m. and then they closed from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. and they were open again from 11

p.m. to 1 a.m. now on a port day like we had today in Georgetown grande came and

they were open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. then again from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. so you

need to understand that these areas are not open all day every day for you to

just walk in and enjoy you have to go during the set times and you want to do

your research when you get on the cruise to find out all work for your family

we hope this little mini episode on the fun pass was helpful be sure to check

out all of our vlogs on MSC Seaside and until next time we'll see you on the

high seas

vixx (kind of) giving advice - Duration: 10:39.

N: hello everyone

V I X X vixx is in the house and ready to give you some advice on your concerns

wait where's Ken

L: probably taking a dump

N: shouldn't we wait on him before we start?

H: who cares

let's see the first question

R: this was a bad idea

H: not at all please tell us Ravi hyung

R: I don't even watch porn

H: I'm your roommate stop lying

N: we all know about it no need to be ashamed

R: I have no advice for this so let's just move on

H: so I guess you're just gonna keep eating the meat :)

R: that's not what I meant oh my god

please move on to the next question

N: okay okay no need to get so angry

the question wasn't even that bad

N: okay what's with these fucking questions

okay okay no need to get so angry

the question isn't even that bad

N: I will fucking bury you with that terrible sarcasm

HB: it could be worse

just tell them your ways

hoe Queen :)

N: fuck you

I've said it before, and I will say it again

I'm not a hoe. I'm sexy.

play the clip

this is not being a hoe this is being sexy

this on the other hand

is being a hoe

HB: I guess we're just throwing Ken under the bus since he isn't here

K: did somebody call me?

HB: speak of the devil

K: what did I miss?

N: nothing much

H: other than being branded as a hoe

K: haha cool...

wait what!?

K: Oh a perfect question for me. Well this is quite easy to answer

Hongbin let's give them an example

HB: wait why me!?

K: because you hate doing it yet you can still do it

this will help people to know that even those who hate it can get good at it

HB: I did not sign up for this shit

K: do I look like I care. Now man up and follow me

I'll show the example of a beginner's level cuteness

that way all you at home can work your way up to become king's slowly

see? Easy to do

HB: I wanna fucking implode

L: I've answered this question before and I cannot physically get myself to answer it again

so roll the clip

N: what was that last part

I said I liked your *incoherent gibberish*

H: now this is very tricky so listen up

I was on a cooking show and this is how I went about it

first you get a pan

and after that you laugh until tears pour out of your eyes into your pan

HB: but how did you end up burning it?

H: too many angry tears in the mix

HB: say what????

N: oh I have some great advice

HB: have you ever been on a date?

N: what do you take me for, I get around you know

HB: following Leo to the coffee shop doesn't count

N: Buzz off Lee Hongbin

the only date you've been on is with your computer.

HB: I know what true love is fight me!

K: can we get back to the question?

N: oh right!

For a first date I advice you to be as normal as possible.

Don't flirt too hard, just think of it as an outing with your best friend.

Don't feel pressured to kiss or hold hands, it'll come naturally when you're both ready.

H: that's rich coming from you

N: what is it now satan

H: I remember when u went on your supposed date with Leo hyung

you literally forced him to hold your hand.

N: I didn't force him!

L: you threaten to smash my coffee machine!

N: I did it for the sake of our date!!

L: it wasn't a date, you followed me!!!!

N: call it what you want!!!!!!!

R: sub? Are implying…

that I'm a sub

H: as if it wasn't clear as day already

R: I'm not a sub, I'm dom as fuck

H: Really now?

HB: I smell fresh lies

H: You once said you wouldn't mind having Hongbin step on you if it meant you could date him

N: I think that's more on the masochistic side than being submissive

H: oh right

K: Why don't you give them some tips on being masochistic as well?

R: I fucking hate you all!!!!!

H: I'm ready and available :D

N: HYUK NO

HB: OH MY GOD HYUK NOT THIS AGAIN

H: Why? What's wrong with being a sugar daddy?

N: explain to me first, what do you think a sugar daddy is?

H: Two individuals in a strictly give and take relationship,

one individual is given goods in exchange for favors.

N: I can't do this anymore

H: Did I say something bad?

R: Hyuk what would you do if you became a sugar daddy

N: don't encourage him!

H: I'd grant the wishes of my sugar baby and in return I'd like them to buy me the online games I want

HB: he's got it backwards

N: he's so innocent I'm gonna cry

H: wait! Do you mean I'm the one who has to buy them games?!

N: Oh my god just move on to the next question!

And never bring this up again

or I swear I'm gonna have a stroke!!

R: Happiness can be easy and hard to achieve at the same time.

N: Short-term happiness comes and goes. But long-term happiness can be hard to achieve.

K: I'd say that long-term happiness can be built on the smaller things that make you happy.

H: I'd say to focus on the things that make you happy, and surround yourself with those things when need be.

HB: However, it's okay not to be happy all the time.

No one is always happy, there must be room for the negative feelings sometimes.

L: But only stay in those negative feelings in a short while,

you have to get yourself out of there and surround yourself with the things that make you happy in life

or else you'll stain that pit of negative feelings

N: It's definitely not easy to achieve but it's something we should all strive to become better at,

by taking small steps in our daily life in to becoming happier people.

K: I know it's hard but it'll take time.

N: You should distance yourself from them to try and forget them

H: However if they're a constant in your life I suggest Plan C.

R: Plan C?

H: chains :)

HB: HYUK

H: Chain them to your bed and keep them there until they fall in love with you.

N: Have you been playing "yandere simulator" again?

H: yes and it's great.

N: I've told you to stop projecting what happens in games in to reality Hyuk! You could end up in jail!

H: Stop worrying I know where the line is.

N: Thank god.

HB: For a second I was worried.

R: I see…

chains… :)

HB: Don't you fucking dare get any funny ideas

R: not sure what you're talking about

HB: I saw that face you made—

R: next question please!

N: try not to get child's protective services to visit your house 5 times a month

H: It's the 6th time this month

HB: kill them

R: Hongbin I don't think it's the kind of advice they need—

L: He's right. Kill them.

H: Why does it feel like this is directed at someone else

N: I suddenly felt a chill down my spine

HB: first you lose your will to live.

Then you find a wig and some feminine clothes that'll make you look like a crossdressing twig.

I regret my existence

L: If I tell you my secrets the others will know.

But one tip is go to airport. That's all I've got.

K: Bury it

HB: Burn it

H: Keep it in the closet

L: *I am fucking disturbed*

H: You grab your crotch

N: no Hyuk that's just being a dude

K: A confident gay is just someone who's confident in their own skin.

K: Let me show you a clip.

H: So I just have to get all up in people's space like Sungjae?

K: Kind of.

K: I've got another example.

K: could you tell who the confident gay was?

H: Yes. It was me.

N/K: What?

H: I was all up in your space

K:….right

Next question

N: I do not drop my booty

however one of Ken's friends is pretty good at it you

//drop it like it's hot Jin//

K: You should learn from him, Leo would love it :)

L: Don't encourage him!

N: I don't know, it must be hard to have them all trust you.

H: unless they're all unaware of that person's other relationships.

R: I think the question is referring to 6 people dating each other at the same time.

H: What like 6 people who are all fucking each other?

N: No it's Dating Hyuk! Don't be so vulgar.

K: Not sure how we're supposed to answer this.

HB: Well let's move on then (lolz)

H: You go there with your friends who care about you, want the best for you,

and would never leave you behind in any circumstances.

They love you so much they'd never dare pull a prank like that on you

and even if they did pull that prank they come and get you,

but even then you'd be so traumatized because imagine being a teenager, and left behind at a gas station,

in the dead of night, no people around

you could have been kidnapped you could have been murdered

R: oh my God he's losing!

K: it it's been six years get over it!

H: If I had my way I'd leave them behind at a gas station and set it on fire

HB: HYUK CALM DOWN!

L: wtf is happening???

H: LEFT ALONE READY TO HAVE MY HEART RIPPED OUT BY A BEAR

N: He's way to triggered,

WE'RE ENDING THIS NOW

N: are you feeling better now Hyuk?

H: yeah mom

N: that's good to hear

well this has been VIXX giving you advice and answering your questions

we hope it was helpful and that we get to see you another time, until then

this has been V I X X, VIXX, peace out

ALL: bye-bye. bye. byeeee! bah bye

BLACKPINK Jennie Inspired Look (with Hana Lee) | #StylebySoompi - Duration: 7:33.

Hi, my name's Hana, and today, I am with Style by Soompi.

I'm going to be filming a makeup tutorial picked out by the viewers, and it's based off of BLACKPINK's Jennie.

We've already posted the options for hair, makeup, and outfit on Instagram.

So I'm just going to see what they have picked, and we are going to try and recreate this look.

Okay, so the options were a dramatic liner or a warm smokey eye.

You guys chose a dramatic eyeliner.

I'm going to put an eyeshadow base on first just so the eyeliner has something to sit on.

So I'm gonna be taking my 3CE Overtake palette.

I'm just gonna be taking this color right here.

It's like the nice light beige color.

I'm gonna be putting this all over my lids.

And then I'm also gonna take a little bit of this brown color to add some dimension.

Just so that the winged dramatic wing doesn't look too weird on top of a naked eye.

Just taking a clean brush and blending it out.

So for the eyeliner, I'm gonna be taking the Karadium Waterproof Eyeliner in Black.

Because she doesn't have monolids and I do, this is going to be difficult, but I'm going to try my best.

So how I like to start is I always like to start with the wing right here, and then I move into my eye.

I just feel like it's a lot easier.

And make sure not to blink because if you have monolids, it's going to transfer to the top, and you don't want that to smudge too much.

I'm just pushing it into my lash line so that there's no gap in between my lashes and the ink.

So I let my eyeliner dry for a little bit so I could open my eyes and see what it looks like.

And I think that's pretty good.

I don't want to bring it up too much because it's just gonna look too heavy and dramatic on my eye.

I think it'll make my eyes look more sleepy, so I'm going to stop bringing it up.

But what I am gonna do is I'm gonna extend the wing a little bit.

And then, I'm also going to fill in the space on this part of my eye.

Okay, I'm going to do my other eye with the same concept.

Just gonna go back in with this brush and fill it in with shadow again.

Vote blush.

You guys voted for a pink blush.

That's what I wanted!

This is the Glossier Cloud Paint in Puff.

This is one of the best, really nice baby pink blushes.

How it works is it's kind of like a liquid and you just dot it and then pat it in.

I'm just glad pink won.

I really like Jennie, in the sense of her style and stuff because she can go from looking really cool and like a baddie, and then she can look really cute and adorable.

I think that's very hard to achieve, and she does it so seamlessly.

I feel like she just has both those looks like in her facial features.

I think that looks good.

It's a nice pink.

Now, I am going to move on to the next thing you guys chose; it is lips.

Oh you chose red?

I wanted pink to match the blush.

But I feel like red is gonna look totally fine with this because the eyeshadow is so minimal, and the eyeliner is super dramatic.

So I think it'll just look like a really dramatic, cool look.

So I have this MACQUEEN Airfit Tint.

So I'm just going to be using this on my lips.

It's very, very red, but the doe foot applicator is so cute.

I'm just going to dot it.

Because this is very red, I'm going to go a little bit at a time and just rub it in with my fingers.

What do you guys think?

I feel like I look really sultry right now.

Okay, so we are moving on to hair.

You guys chose 75% wavy and 25% straight.

You know what? That's okay.

I wanted straight because it would be less work.

But I feel like wavy is going to look a lot better with this dramatic, sexy look.

I have this Bellami 32 millimeter barrel curling iron.

I'm just gonna use this.

By the way, I'm also wearing extensions.

I'm trying really hard to not let it show, but when your hair's straight and you're wearing extensions, it's really easy to see where your short hair is.

So, I think making it curly will help hide where my extensions are.

I just separated my hair, and you can see my real hair right here and my fake hair here.

Trying to curl them together so that it looks natural.

This is a little harder than I thought.

So with this barrel, because it's so big, you don't have to hold it in for very long if you want a wavy look.

So whenever you're curling your hair, if you want it to look nice and natural and not weird, you should curl away from your face, especially these front portions.

Because if you curl towards your face, it looks a little wonky.

When you curl away from your face, I feel like it gives your head a nice shape.

But I always just like to take my hair and you see how I'm curling it this way, away from my face?

I think the bottom part of my hair is pretty wavy now.

I'm going to move on to the next section.

This is probably gonna be the hardest part because I'm trying hard to get the curls to blend in --

the long hair and the short hair to blend in together.

Oh wait, it's not that bad.

Okay, cool.

I am done with my hair!

That took a long time, but I think it looks really good.

And I think all the hair got blended in.

Alright guys, so this is the finished look that you guys picked out.

I actually ended up really liking it!

I was really scared, especially about the red lip part because I thought it would be too much with the pink cheeks.

But I think it looks really, really nice.

It's like a really simple and classy look.

And I also ended up liking that you guys chose wavy because I think it looks really great with this little black dress.

Thank you so much for watching.

Music's tie to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - Duration: 2:17.

Musicians have often used their music as a way to make a

statement, but singer Lana Del Rey might've unknowingly waded

into a decades-long conflict when she chose to headline a

festival in Israel. Del Rey defended her decision on Twitter

saying, "I believe music is universal and should be used to

bring us together." This was in response to being called out by

the pro-Palestinian BDS, which is the Boycott, Divestment,

Sanctions movement. BDS aims to challenge international support

for Israel over what it sees as discrimination against

Palestinians and disputed territory in the region. That

disputed territory is a significant part of the

Israeli-Palestinian conflict: Israel controls land such as

the West Bank and the Gaza strip as a result of several wars.

But Palestinians believe that land is theirs and that Israel

is illegally controlling those territories. The U.N. recognizes

both the West Bank and the Gaza strip as a part of Israel. "The

reason we should fight BDS is because it's wrong. It's a moral

outrage." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has

previously criticized BDS for wanting to bring an end to the

Jewish state. And groups like the Jewish Anti-Defamation

League have called many BDS views anti-semitic. So, where

exactly do musicians come into the fold? BDS has gone after

musicians because they believe international performers doing

shows in Israel help make the country seem "normal." BDS has

taken inspiration from another large musical protest movement.

"I ain't gonna play Sun City!" (Chorus) More than 50 artists

including Run DMC, Bruce Springsteen and David Ruffin and

Eddie Kendricks from the Temptations joined forces to

protest Sun City, a casino resort in apartheid South

Africa. That effort reportedly raised a million dollars for

anti-apartheid projects. The BDS movement has influenced other

artists, like Lorde, to pull out of shows in Israel but it

hasn't yet achieved anything on the scale of the Sun City

protest. As for Lana Del Rey, she said in another statement

that she still plans to perform in Israel, but that she'll also

be "visiting Palestine" during her trip.

How teachers can help kids find their political voices | Sydney Chaffee - Duration: 17:00.

To me, social justice is a simple concept.

It's the notion that all people in a society

deserve fair and equitable rights, opportunities and access to resources.

But it's become controversial and nebulous,

because we've stopped talking

about what working for social justice actually looks like.

Working for social justice can look like this ...

or this.

It can look like this ...

or it can look like this ...

or my favorite ...

it can look like that.

Those are my students,

and whenever I'm asked to articulate my work or my priorities as a teacher,

I explain that I believe education can be a tool for social justice.

But a few months ago, I logged onto Twitter -- as I do --

and I saw that a fellow teacher had taken issue with that belief.

"Teachers," he said, "should not be social justice warriors,

because the purpose of education is to educate."

And he ended his argument by saying,

"I teach my subject."

But I reject that simplification,

because teachers don't just teach subjects,

we teach people.

When our students walk into our classrooms,

they bring their identities with them.

Everything they experience in our rooms is bound up in historical context,

and so if we insist that education happens in a vacuum,

we do our students a disservice.

We teach them that education doesn't really matter,

because it's not relevant to what's happening all around them.

And what's happening all around them?

Well, racism for one.

According to results of the Implicit Association Test,

fully 88 percent of white people harbored subconscious biases against black people,

believing them to be less intelligent, lazier and more dangerous than whites.

And that's just one concrete example of the insidious effects

of historic and systemic racism on our country.

For more evidence, we could look at incarceration rates;

we could look at statistics on police violence against black people;

we could look at the opportunity gap in education --

so yeah, social justice belongs in our schools.

Social justice should be a part of the mission of every school

and every teacher in America,

if we want "liberty and justice for all" to be more than a slogan ...

because schools are crucial places for children to become active citizens

and to learn the skills and the tools that they need to change the world.

So what are those skills?

OK, here's a secret:

many of the skills that people need

to orchestrate the kinds of change that will lead to justice

are already built into the work of schools.

Things like problem-solving,

critical thinking, collaboration, perseverance --

none of that should be revolutionary on its own.

Combine that with the ability to understand history

not as one static and objective narrative on which we all agree,

but as a series of intertwined events

about which there can be countless interpretations.

If we deliberately choose to explore history with our students

rather than just teach it,

we help them understand that history is ongoing

and that it's connected to current movements for justice.

And we help them see themselves as potential players

within a living history.

So those are the skills I'm talking about

when I say that education can be a place

to help kids learn how to work for justice.

But maybe the reason

that my Twitter critic wasn't happy with that idea

is because he doesn't agree with my definition of justice.

Fair enough.

Maybe he and I don't see eye to eye, politically.

But here's the thing:

our aim is to encourage students to articulate their own opinions,

not to coerce them into agreeing with us,

so it actually doesn't matter if he and I agree.

What matters is that we're helping students have those conversations

with each other.

And that means that as adults,

we need to learn how to become effective facilitators

of our students' activism.

We've got to help them learn how to have really tricky conversations,

we have to expose them to different opinions,

and we have to help them see

how what they're learning in school connects to the world outside.

So here's an example of that.

Every year, my students study the history of apartheid in South Africa

as a case study of injustice.

Now for those of you who don't know,

apartheid was a brutally racist system,

and the white-ruled government in South Africa imposed racist laws

to oppress people of color,

and if you resisted those laws, you risked jail time, violence or death.

And around the world, other countries' governments,

including ours in the United States,

hesitated to sanction South Africa, because ...

well ...

we benefited from its resources.

So in 1976, the South African government passed a new law

which required that all students in South Africa

learn in the language Afrikaans,

which was a white language,

and many black South Africans referred to that language

as the language of the oppressor.

So not surprisingly,

students of color were outraged at this law.

They already attended segregated schools

with overcrowded classrooms,

a lack of resources

and a frankly racist curriculum,

and now they were being told to learn

in a language neither they nor their teachers spoke.

So on the morning of June 16, 1976,

thousands of kids from the township of Soweto

walked out of schools.

And they marched peacefully through the streets to protest the law.

At an intersection, they met up with the police,

and when the kids refused to turn back,

the police officers set dogs on them ...

and then they opened fire ...

and the Soweto uprising ended in tragedy.

Apartheid itself didn't end until almost 20 years later,

but the activism of those kids in Soweto profoundly changed

the way the world viewed what was happening in South Africa.

News outlets all around the world published this photo

of 13-year-old Hector Pieterson,

who was one of the first people killed by police in Soweto,

and it became nearly impossible to ignore the brutality

of the apartheid regime.

In the months and the years that followed the Soweto uprising,

more and more countries exerted political and economic pressure

on the South African government to end apartheid,

and it was largely due to the activism of those kids in Soweto.

So every year my kids learn about this.

And invariably, they start to draw connections

between those kids in Soweto and themselves.

And they start to ask themselves

what kind of political power and agency they have.

They ask themselves whether there would ever be a reason

they would risk their lives

so that a future generation could live in a more just world.

And most profoundly for me, every single year,

they ask themselves whether adults will ever listen to their voices.

A few years ago,

my principal got an anonymous email from one of our students.

It informed him that the following day,

the students planned to walk out of school.

This was in the wake of Michael Brown's death

in Ferguson, Missouri,

and the students were planning to join a walkout and march

in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

So at this point,

the staff at the school had a decision to make.

Would we use our authority and our power to try to control the students

and prevent them from leaving,

or would we support them

as they put into practice the principles of social justice

that we had taught them about since the ninth-grade year?

So the next morning, the kids left school en masse

and they gathered on the lawn.

And one of the seniors jumped up on a picnic table

and went over safety expectations.

(Laughter)

And the younger kids took it very seriously.

And as teachers and as staff we told them,

"OK, be safe,"

and we watched as they marched off.

The kids who chose to stay spent that afternoon in class.

They debated the merits of protest,

they talked about the history of the Black Lives Matter movement,

and they went on with classes as scheduled.

And those who chose to leave participated in a citywide student walkout

and raised their collective voice for justice.

But no matter where they chose to spend the afternoon,

our kids learned valuable lessons that day.

They learned that the adults in their lives would support them

even as we worried for their safety.

And they learned that they didn't need us to tell them how or when

or even why to protest.

They learned that they were members of a community of young people

with a shared vision of a more equitable society,

and they learned that they had power within that society.

They learned that events like the Soweto uprising

are not ancient history,

and they don't have to end in tragedy.

And that's what education as a tool for social justice can look like.

And here's the thing:

our kids are ready for this kind of work.

So in 2015,

incoming college freshmen were surveyed,

and 8.5 percent of them said

that there was a "very good chance" they would participate in a protest

sometime during their college career.

That might not seem very impressive,

but consider the fact

that it's the largest number of students to say that since 1967.

And 75 percent of those kids

said that helping other people who are having difficulty

was a "very important" or "essential" goal for them.

Again, the highest number of people to say that since the late 1960s.

And research shows us that working for justice doesn't just follow

from building all those skills I talked about earlier --

it actually goes the other way, too.

So working for justice, engaging in activism,

helps students build skills like leadership and critical thinking,

and it correlates positively with their political participation

and their civic engagement

and their commitment to their communities later in life.

So in other words,

students are telling us that social justice matters to them

and researchers are telling us that it helps students learn.

So now it's up to us to listen,

and that might not be easy.

In 1976, one of those kids who participated in the Soweto uprising,

he said that that event represented divorce

between black children and their families,

because their families had grown up under apartheid,

and they knew how dangerous it was to speak out.

They wanted their kids to lay low and stay safe.

And when our kids threatened to walk out,

a lot of the adults in our community were really conflicted, too.

Some of us worried that they might encounter violence.

Other people worried that they would walk out

but they wouldn't really know why they were protesting.

And some, including some students' families,

were really angry that the school hadn't done more

to prevent them from leaving.

And all of those fears that adults have about getting this stuff wrong --

all of those fears make total sense.

But despite those fears,

we have got to prove to our students that we will listen to their voices

and that they do have the power to effect change.

It's our responsibility to equip our students

with the tools and the skills that they need

to insist on a more equitable world --

and then sometimes, to get out of their way,

and let them apply those skills to things that they care about.

Living up to that vision is going to require

that we are flexible,

and it's going to require that we're creative.

It's going to require that we're brave enough

to stand up in the face of people who try to silence

or delegitimize dissenting voices.

And hardest of all,

it's going to require accepting the fact that sometimes we will be the ones

our students will rebel against.

(Laughter)

Sometimes they're going to point out ways in which systems that we have created,

or in which we are complicit,

contribute to inequity.

It's going to be uncomfortable, and it's going to be painful

as they push us to question our own assumptions and beliefs.

But what if we change the way we think about rebellion in our kids?

When our kids rebel --

when they thoughtfully push back against our ideas

or the way that we do things,

what if we chose to see that as a sign that we're doing something right

and that they're becoming liberated?

I know it would be easier

if their critical thinking skills manifested in more convenient ways --

on their essays or their standardized tests --

I get it --

but convenience and justice do not often go hand in hand.

And when our kids learn to think critically about the world around them,

they become the kinds of engaged citizens

who will recognize and question injustice when they see it

and work to do something about it.

Welcoming rebellion into our schools is going to require some rethinking

about what teaching and learning look like,

because there's this misconception

that if we give students any wiggle room, they're going to walk all over us

and classrooms and dinner tables will devolve into total chaos.

And if we expect kids to sit silently and passively receive knowledge from us,

then their voices will always feel overwhelming.

But if we accept instead that learning is sometimes messy,

that is requires opportunities to brainstorm and mess up

and try again,

that our kids dislike chaos and want to learn

when they come to school,

then we can set up schools to facilitate that kind of learning.

So do me a favor and close your eyes for a second

and imagine schools where teachers are thought partners,

letting students grapple with complex, hard issues

and not necessarily giving them the right answers.

And imagine schools where we let students make choices --

we trust them enough to do that

and we let them experience the consequences of those choices.

Imagine schools where we let students be humans,

with all of the messiness and the uncertainty

that is bound to come with that.

Whatever you just imagined,

it's not mythical,

it's not unrealistically idealistic,

because teachers all over the country are already pushing the boundaries

of what teaching and learning can look like

with amazing results for kids.

They're doing that in all kinds of schools,

and there are countless models for teachers who want to get better

at helping students learn in a way that's more authentic

and engaging and empowering.

I was a reading a book recently,

it's called "The Students Are Watching,"

and it was by Ted and Nancy Sizer,

and in that book, they said that the work of education

is often described as a series of nouns,

like "respect," "honesty," "integrity."

And they say those nouns sound really impressive,

but often, they fail to actually mean anything in practice.

But verbs, they say, are "active,

no less demanding

but requiring constant engagement.

Verbs are not structures but, rather, engines."

And so as I read that, I wondered:

How do we make justice into an engine driving our work as teachers?

What's the verb form of justice?

I think there might be an answer to be found in the words of Cornel West,

who famously said that "justice is what love looks like in public."

And all of my nerdy English teachers in the crowd

know that love can be a noun and a verb.

School has to be bigger.

It has to mean more than "I teach my subject."

School has to be about teaching people

to change the world for the better.

If we believe that,

then teaching will always be a political act.

We can't be afraid of our students' power.

Their power will help them make tomorrow better.

But before they can do that,

we have to give them chances to practice today.

And that practice should start in our schools.

Thank you very much.

(Applause)

Procrastination - Two Sad Ladies - Duration: 1:41.

Did you hit record?

OK, come here!

Hi, I'm David.

This is Potato.

Welcome to an extra special episode

of Two Sad Ladies,

Two Sad Ladies LIVE!

Today, we're talking about Procrastination.

Alright, let's do this.

Procrastination!

Everybody procrastinates.

And anybody who says they don't is a liar!

And you know what we do to liars?

Something!

Eventually...

Procrastination has fueled

some of history's greatest moments.

For example, did you know that

women won the right to vote in 1920

because America procrastinated for hundreds of years

on basic human rights.

When you feel anxiety, you procrastinate,

which gives you anxiety,

so you procrastinate,

which gives you anxiety,

so you procrastinate.

It's a vicious cycle.

Or I guess more like a vicious spiral

because, at some point, you die!

Which gives you anxiety,

so you procrastinate on your dreams!

No, not you,

you're gonna live forever.

If something important is coming up

and you think you might procrastinate on it,

it's good to be proactive

and stay on top of your responsibilities.

But that's crappy advice.

That's like Googling how to put out

a grease fire and the first result

is "stay away from open flames."

Thanks, Google.

I don't think you realize how little time I

HAVE HERE!

But procrastination can actually be a good thing.

Let's say for example you've been

procrastinating on an episode of your webseries

and now you gotta do it live.

It's actually easier than you expected

because you've been thinking about it

in the back of your mind rather than just

jumping right in with no ideas whatsoever.

And even if it's not that great,

it's not like anybody's gonna judge your worth

based on the quality of your webseries, right?

Right?

Oh, crap!

Racja amii chorwackiej (IBO) menu 7 - ENGLISH SUBTITLES - Duration: 10:31.

Hi, this is Delicious

Today we have a holiday review

Why holiday?

I am on holidays

and the ration comes from a country

which is a very popular holiday destination

in Poland

This is a ration from Croatia-menu 7

We have a similar plastic like in Polish rations

and no peelable seal

I hope that the wind will not disturb

I am cutting !

Inside we have a nice box

Best before date is a year ago

Everything is made in Croatia by the well known company Podravka

two beverage powders-orange

medenjak

some cakes

contain 20% of honey

dried banana chips

chicken soup

something has leaked-probably honey

dried pineapple

instant tea-peach, with vit C

2 honeys, one of them is opened

kavabon-candies

pate with liver

turkey luncheon meat

main course - cobanac

something like goulash ?

3 packs of crackers

one of the best crackers in rations

my favourites

content sheet

a chocolate

and moist towlettes, which will be useful today

this dish looks like beef and pork goulash

I heated it up in warm water

Today is very hot - over 30 degreees C

I have to hurry with the review, because it is hot like hell here

everything gets melted

we have few ingredients-meat, onion, paprika

very yummy !, a bit spicy, you can taste sweet paprika

Hungarian style

excellent!

I've had opportunity to taste Podravka cans and alll were tasty

now I will use the towlette-my fingers are sticky

the tissue is not of paper

quite resistant, but bit dried

this is a chicken soup with pasta

This is an instant soup

but I havent had an instant soup, which tasted that small 'instant'

really delicious

this is a big achievement of the Croatian food industry

the orange drink with 8 vitamins

taste like an orage juice from the box

crackers are really good

they are of wholegrain wheat

a bit salty and backed on one side

we have 2 cans for this crackers

one is pork pate with liver

very soft-because it is hot here

really tasty, soft as a jelly

super delicious, you can't taste the bitterness from the liver

well seasoned

now the ice tea

as ice tea it is a bit artificial, but the taste is good

is very refreshing-a good balance between sweet and sour

the next can is turkey luncheon meat

also made by Podravka

and it is heated

sorry, the sun blinded me and I went out of frame

very fine ground, also tasty

it is very much processed

but the taste is really good

it has the right amount of salt

time for desserts

I forgot about the honey

should be runny at this temperature

rather dark

the honey is absolutely delicious

has a really rich taste, made of mixed flowers

is it much better than average honey from shops

the dried banana first

dried banana is not my favourite

it is crunchy, but it has no banana taste to it

no matter what you do with it

the dried pineapple looks like candied

probably they have sugar outside

the pineapple is not that dry and hard as banana

inside it is moist and a bit chewy

and they are NOT candied or covered with sugar

it is just natural sweetneess

now the medenjak - honey cookies

look like gingerbreads

they look like gingerbreads and taste like them

I really like this kind of cookies

We have the chocolate, which is completely melted

I'll take another bite

This is a dessert/half-bitter chocolate with 50% cocoa

You can taste this cocoa, has a regular chocolate taste-like it should

no 'sugar candies' ;)

now the kavabon

it is rather a hard candy

When I tasted the kavabon for the last time - it was completely hard

now at this temperature it is soft as toffee

I can't taste the coffee, maybe it contains caffeine, but is just sweet

This is all the ration, it should be for 24h, but I have to check it

for me it is like for 2 meals - 1 big entree and 2 side dishes

I asked my friend from Crombat and he confirms

that it is a 24h rations with 3500kcal

I am impressed by the taste

it was delicious, maybe except the banana nad kavabon

excellent quality and seasoning

just normal food you can eat

It was a review of the Croatian army ration menu 7

See you in the next reviews !

College Knights Compete for the Benedict Bowl - Duration: 3:53.

(dramatic music)

- We're two Benedictine-rooted schools

in the Kansas City area, both have Knights Councils.

- We kinda started doing this football rivalry

so every year we go down there, it's a lot of fun.

- All the proceeds are going to go

to Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Project,

so that we can fully live out our duty

as Knights of Columbus.

- It's a way for us to take that fraternity

and kinda show it to others.

The Knights of Columbus are the reason this game exists.

- Conception brings an army, it's pretty intense.

- We have never lost a game, zero.

There's a virtue that football and sports teach you.

You have to work hard and our faith life

is no different, it's not easy.

We had a motto that we always

rallied on, ad majorem Dei gloriam,

for the greater glory of God.

And so everything we do on this field

is for the greater glory of God.

- The idea that you're loyal and

that you can trust your teammates

also translate into habits

that you can use other places in your life.

It's the chance to kind of be men in a different way.

- Part of brotherly love is competition

so it's an opportunity to grow in a lot of different ways.

- [Man] It's something that you wake up

and you know it's game day.

Conception, we're coming for you.

(upbeat music)

- BC's gonna win, hands down.

- I'm gonna eat people up on defense.

- We're gonna play some football, Conception's here to win.

- The only score on the trophy says 49-28.

I think I could go for another 49-28.

- [Man] Why do you think you guys are gonna win?

- Because we're better. - Game on.

(dramatic rock music)

- Watch out around your side!

- Way to be, Zach, way to be!

- I've been standing here on the sideline

just yelling most of the time, so.

- It's 13 to 6, keep going, keep going!

(cheers)

- You still set that edge, man.

- Whoever's gonna push him out of bounds, bury him.

- [All] Thunder, boom!

- Oh, we got it tied up right now, but

we gotta have our defense come in, get a stop right here.

It's been back and forth, the entire time.

- A minute and 30 seconds, fourth down,

fourth quarter, got about two, three yards

and it's 20-20 tied.

- We need to score now.

- Let's go, let's go!

- Lord, thank you for bringing us

here today, thank you for the gift

of friendly competition, thank you

for a chance to strive with and against our brethren.

Thank you for a chance to break bread together,

for a chance to play together,

for a chance to win and lose as brothers together.

- It was a scrap, it's always been a scrap,

everybody played their best and I know they certainly did.

We just pulled it out at the end there, we made one play.

- You know, every once in a while things

get chippy, but it's always only for one play.

It's water under the bridge, we forgive and forget.

Having a burger, having a dog,

getting some water, it's time to relax.

- It's events like these that it

really increases brotherhood, friendship

and encourages good sportsmanship

and actually makes good people.

It creates a really good character.

- [Man] St. Benedict on three!

- [All] One, two, three, St. Benedict!

LOSING WEIGHT FOR UNCONVENTIONAL REASONS-MY THOUGHTS.. - Duration: 4:34.

I am NOT gonna lie today my lighting is on point because some time I do my

lighting well I try to do my lighting as best as I possibly can and sometimes I

look at my videos and I go to hell with it you know I'm all about you know just

keeping it 100 in my videos I do very little editing on my videos after I

don't do any editing in my videos I just try to keep them as real as possible and

the lighting is kind of good today on my videos because this times I look at my

videos and my feet my face color looks like two different skin tones and it's

not because my skin is all jacked up it's just because of the lighting the

lighting is everything guys before I start this video of your whole video

lighting you can have a shitty camera but if your lighting sucks everything

else is not going to matter now I wrote some of these things down today I'm

talking about I'm looking on my my listing here losing weight and I just

received me saying to myself hey listen sometimes we have to fake it till we

make it sometimes we try to lose weight for ourselves and it just does not work

losing it for ourselves but at the end of the day what I'm gonna tell you you

could do to lose away is actually doing it for yourself but the reasons why

you're doing it people might say is for others but know at the end of the day

what you're thinking or why you're doing it for that reason is for yourself

I feel like hey let's unconventionally do things maybe for other people there

could be someone that you want to get back at lose weight you know you know

for that reason if you have to lose weight because you want to make someone

jealous maybe an ex-boyfriend or a female who thought she was the bomb calm

and always look down on you if you have that person in your mind

write them on on a piece of paper their name or

picture you know at the end of the day of course you're doing it for yourself

but sometimes we try harder when we're doing it when we think for other people

but always remember even when you think that you're doing it for somebody else

that's why you lost the weight you really you really did it for yourself

because at the end of the day you are the one that actually took action and

changed your life not the person that's hating on you not the person that you're

trying to get back that well you are the one that took action and did something

about your situation you know and in some cases I thought that my phone was

going off and in some cases we do this and we lose all the weight that we need

to lose when in other cases we we go by the let's do it for ourselves and we

don't lose it you know set a goal and even it might be even for a family

member and put that family member as someone that's on the top of the list

that you want to make their heads turn when they see that you've lost all the

weight sometimes that can motivate you doing the opposite of what people tell

you to do at the end of the day and I'm going to keep saying so people don't get

this video all mixed up yes you are doing it for yourself but sometimes we

need to have a driving factor an ex-boyfriend and a jerk of an

ex-boyfriend or an ex-husband or ex-girlfriend whatever the situation

whatever which way you sway you might need someone or something to get you

started to where you need to be on your weight loss journey so that was on my

mind wasn't like a big drawn-out topic that I needed to discuss with you guys

but I just want to make a video about it everything with me is about inspiring so

when I have something that comes to mind I'll

put it on a video and share it with you guys so with all that being said please

subscribe to the channel like and she had this video and make it a favorite

and I'll see you guys in the next video bye for now

The Untold Truth Of John McCain - Duration: 6:08.

The late Arizona Senator John McCain was well known for his long career in Congress and

his two attempts at the presidency.

Most people are probably also aware of McCain's five-year stint in a Vietnamese prison camp,

where the naval aviator refused to use his family name as a bargaining chip and instead

demanded the release of other soldiers ahead of him.

The details of McCain's political and personal life are an interesting tapestry that explain

why the statesman earned his famous reputation as a maverick.

Senator McCain died at 81 on August 25th, 2018 at his home in Arizona as a result of

brain cancer.

But while McCain's influential life has been well-documented, there are still elements

of his story that are less familiar to the general public.

Here's a closer look at the untold truth of John McCain.

John Punk McNasty

John McCain's fiery personality was already evident during his high school days, and it

earned him two pretty cool nicknames.

His classmates dubbed him "Punk," while his close friends gave McCain an altogether different

nickname that, unfortunately, didn't stick around for his political career: "McNasty."

The name reportedly came from his time on the wrestling team, but it would also be a

fitting title for the start of McCain's military career.

From Punk to Hunk

After high school, McCain followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by

enrolling in the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

But McCain had trouble adapting to academy life, reportedly fighting with upperclassmen,

and earning more than 100 demerits each year for refusing to clean his quarters, shine

his shoes, or show up on time for formation.

He graduated near the bottom of his class, which turned out to be something of a family

tradition as well.

"God only knows how I graduated from the Naval academy."

Where the young McCain really excelled was with the ladies.

His fellow cadets reportedly called him "John Wayne McCain" and often turned to him for

advice when it came to the opposite sex.

During his early years in the Navy, McCain was stationed in Pensacola , Florida, where

he reportedly earned a reputation for throwing raucous beach parties.

Author Robert Timberg, who wrote John McCain: An American Odyssey, detailed McCain's exploits

in the Sunshine State:

"He dated everyone from schoolteachers to the strippers at Trader John's [sic], the

fabled airdale raunch bar, often returning to base just in time to change clothes and

drag himself out to the flightline."

In fact, while stationed in Florida, McCain got involved with a local exotic dancer:

"Her name was Marie the Flame of Florida."

And it wasn't just her name that captured McCain's heart:

"She reached into her purse and took out a switchblade and began to clean her fingernails."

Afterwards, McCain wrote in his book Faith of My Fathers, he took the "worldly, lovely

Flame of Florida to dinner."

Eventually, McCain settled down and started dating Philadelphia model Carol Shepp.

They married in 1965, and adopted two sons.

But just over a year later, on the heels of their daughter Sidney's birth, he was shipped

off to Vietnam to serve as a bomber pilot.

It would be nearly six years before he returned, and their marriage would only last for a few

more years after that.

Serious about protecting his family

Despite their failed marriage, Carol never acted bitterly toward McCain, and he returned

the favor.

He was extremely gracious to her in the divorce, reportedly giving her their beach house in

Florida and agreeing to pay all of her medical bills for life, along with alimony and child

support.

In fact, during his first Congressional run following their divorce, she warned him about

a political opponent approaching her for dirt to use against him.

With that tip in hand, things turned "McNasty" following a political debate.

In his book, Worth the Fighting For, McCain wrote, "When the debate ended, I walked over

to the opponent who had attempted to mine some little nasty opposition research from

my failed marriage and told him with as much steel as I'm capable of demonstrating, 'If

you ever try to hurt anyone in my family again, I will personally beat the s—- out of you.'"

The Bush campaign's dirty trick

In 1999, McCain announced his run for presidency against front-runner George W. Bush in the

Republican primaries.

When McCain began upsetting Bush in key places, such as New Hampshire, things got ugly fast.

In the days leading up to the South Carolina primary, activists who were allegedly friendly

to the Bush campaign circulated a rumor that McCain fathered a child out of wedlock.

Not just any child: a, quote, "Negro child."

Soon, fliers appeared depicting the McCain family with a dark-skinned child.

The Bush campaign denied being involved in the campaign, but the rumors and their racist

implications gained traction.

McCain lost in South Carolina, and Bush went on to win the presidency.

But what very few people knew at the time was that the child in those campaign fliers

was actually John and Cindy McCains' adopted daughter, Bridget, who Cindy met on a 1991

relief mission in Bangladesh via Mother Teresa's nuns.

The fliers used McCain's own daughter to smear the candidate.

Battling cancer, and the president

One of President Donald Trump's biggest campaign promises was to repeal the Affordable Care

Act, better known as Obamacare, but that ended up being easier said than done.

In late July 2017, McCain flew to Washington just days after the surgery that revealed

his brain cancer.

At first, it seemed like McCain would vote the party line to pass something called a

"skinny repeal" of the healthcare system.

Its passage would still be a political win for the Trump administration.

And then the "Maverick" came out.

According to CNN, McCain surprised the president and his party by joining Alaska Senator Lisa

Murkowski and Maine Senator Susan Collins in voting no on the skinny repeal and preventing

the bill's passage.

It was a devastating blow to Trump's agenda, and it restored McCain's reputation as a fierce

independent.

A true Maverick

Despite a personal and political life that was no stranger to controversy, there's no

denying Senator McCain was a dedicated public servant who deeply loved his country.

Whether it was surviving in a Vietnamese prison camp or going against his own political party,

he wasn't afraid to stay the course when the chips were down.

The long-time senator also demonstrated a willingness to put partisan politics aside

for general decency.

During his presidential run against Obama, a woman at one of McCain's campaign rallies

said she didn't trust Mr. Obama because "he's an Arab."

McCain didn't let that false and racially charged comment sit.

"No ma'am, no ma'am.

He's a decent family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with on

fundamental issues."

Following McCain's passing, former President Obama was among the many voices who responded

to the news with great reverence, saying,

"Few of us have been tested the way John once was, or required to show the kind of courage

that he did.

But all of us can aspire to the courage to put the greater good above our own.

At John's best, he showed us what that means.

And for that, we are all in his debt."
