Hey everyone!
I'm Lizfaerie and today I'm going to show you how to make some basic clothes for your
crochet dolls.
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to make these 3 different styles of shoe for your
crochet dolls: These flip flops, these boots, and these sneakers.
This pattern is easy to customize to any size doll.
But I'll be making mine to fit these 2 different dolls, my realistic body doll, and my basic
doll.
Some other things you'll need for this tutorial are:
A crochet hook.
You can use any size you like, I'm going to use a size E (3.5 mm)
A pair of scissors A yarn needle to sew in your ends
You'll need bobby pins or stitch markers to keep track of your stitches
And you'll need yarn.
You could really use any yarn to make shoes for your doll, but I'm going to use a thinner
yarn to make the flip flops, and thicker yarn to make the sneakers and boots.
So I'll be using this crochet thread from Loops & Threads Woolike to make the flip flops.
And for the boots and sneakers, I'll use worsted weight yarn.
I'm using Spring Brook from Caron Simply Soft for the boots.
And for the sneakers, I'll use White, also from Caron Simply Soft, and "Cherry Red"
from Red Heart Soft.
But you can use any color you like.
If you want, you could make laces for your shoes out of crochet thread.
For my laces, I'll be using some White crochet thread from Auntie Lydia brand.
If you'd like a written pattern, you can find one in my Ravelry store.
The link is in the description below.
I'm going to start by making the sole of my shoes.
This is done in the same way for all 3 styles of shoe, so I'll show you how to do this using
my worsted weight Spring Brook yarn.
For the flip flops, though, use the crochet thread.
And for the sneakers, use white yarn for this part.
First, I'm going to create a foundation chain of 3.
Alright, I've done my 3 chains.
Now I'm going to chain 1 more, and that's going to count as the 1st stitch of the row,
so I'm going to mark it with one of my bobby pins, to keep track of where the first stitch
is.
And now, to begin the next row, I'm going to single crochet into the 2nd chain from
hook.
Normally, to make the next stitch, you would single crochet into the 3rd chain from the
hook.
But I'm going to work into the 2nd chain, to increase that stitch.
So single crochet again into that stitch to increase the 1st chain, on this side of the
foundation.
Now I want to increase again into the same chain, but on the opposite side.
So I'm going to turn my work slightly, then single crochet 2 more times into the same
stitch, to increase the same stitch again on the other side.
Now I have 4 total stitches in the 1st chain of the foundation.
So next I'm going to single crochet just 1 into the next chain.
And then, in the 3rd chain, I'm going to increase the same way, with 4 total stitches.
So I'm going to work 2 single crochets into each side of the chain.
So I've done the first 2 single crochets.
Now turn the work again.
And single crochet 2 more into the other side of the chain.
And then single crochet into the other side of the middle chain, on this side.
Now to start the next row, I'm going to single crochet into the 1st stitch of the previous
row, to work my rows in a spiral.
That's the 1st stitch of my first increase from the previous row (the chain 1).
So now I'm going to do a normal increase into the next 3 stitches.
So single crochet twice into each of the next 3 stitches.
These stitches should be the last 3 stitches of the first increase from the previous row.
Alright, I've finished with my increases.
Now I'm going to single crochet in next 2 stitches of the row.
And then, increase next 3 stitches.
These stitches should be the last 3 stitches of the 2nd increase from the previous row.
Now I've finished with the last 3 increases.
So now I'm going to single crochet into the last stitch of the row.
Now in the next row, I'm going to increase into each of the increase stitches I made
in the previous row.
I'll work my stitches into the 2nd stitch of the increase from the previous row.
So I'm going to single crochet in the first 2 stitches of the row until I get to the 2nd
stitch of the increase.
And now I'll increase into each of my 3 increases on this side.
So increase the next stitch.
Then single crochet in the next stitch.
And then increase the next stitch.
Single crochet again in next stitch.
Then increase the next stitch.
So I've done all the increases on this side of the work.
Now I'm going to single crochet into the next 3 stitches, until I get to the 2nd stitch
of the next increase of the previous row.
And I'm going to increase into that stitch, and into each of the next 3 increases.
So single crochet in the next stitch.
Then increase the next stitch.
Single crochet in next stitch.
And increase the next stitch.
And then I'm going to single crochet in the last stitch of the row.
This is going to be my last row of increasing the sole of the shoe, because it's already
the right size for my doll.
But if you want to keep making yours bigger, continue to repeat that pattern: Keep adding
single crochet stitches until you get to the 2nd stitch of each set of increase stitches
from the previous row, and increase into each of those stitches, until sole of the shoe
reaches the length you want.
Next I'm going to slip stitch into each stitch of the row to make an edge at the side of
the sole of the shoe.
You don't have to do this if you want, but I think the end result looks nicer.
But I'm actually going to keep marking the first stitch of the previous row, because
I'm going to work my next row, the actual shoe part, onto this row, not the slip stitch
row I'm about to make.
This is just so that the bottom of the shoe stands out more.
I'm also going to mark the last stitch of this row, because I'm going to start my next
row at the back for the boots, and at the front for the sneakers.
So I want to be extra careful I don't skip one of the stitches, or work into one of the
slip stitches by mistake.
So now I'm going to work my row of slip stitches around the row.
And when I get to the end of the row, I'm going to slip stitch into the 1st slip stitch
of this row to end the row.
Then I'm going to cut off the yarn.
And sew in the end.
This is where the pattern is going to be different for each style of shoe.
First, I'll show you the easiest, the flip flop style shoe.
So I'm going to pull up a loop at the side of the shoe sole, where I want the side of
shoe thong to go.
I'm going to start in this 1st stitch that I marked, behind the slip stitches of the
previous row.
Next I'm going to chain 1, and that'll count as the 1st stitch of the row, so I'm going
to mark that stitch.
Then chain 3 more.
If you want, you could chain more than 3, just chain about half the width you want the
top of the shoe thong to be.
Next I'm going to skip the next 4 stitches behind the slip stitch row, and I'm going
to double crochet into the next stitch.
So yarn over.
And double crochet.
I'm placing the middle of the shoe thong at the very tip of the shoe because I'm making
mine for a doll.
If you want to make them functional, though, just slip stitch a few rows down, into the
sole of the shoe, wherever you want the middle to go.
Next I'm going to chain 3 again, you should chain the same amount as you did on the other
side of the double crochet.
Then I'm going to skip the same amount of stitches, and slip stitch into the stitch
on the opposite side from where I started my chain.
And you could just leave it like that if you want to make a really thin top for the shoe.
But I'm going to go on for another row.
So to do that, first I'm going to slip stitch into the next stitch on the sole of the shoe.
Then I'm going to chain 1 for the first stitch of the row, so mark that stitch.
And I'm going to slip stitch in the 3rd chain from the hook.
And continue to slip stitch into each of the remaining chains, until I get to the other
side.
Ok, I've slip stitched into each stitch of the row.
Now I'm going to slip stitch again into the same stitch where I started working my chain.
Then I'm going to slip stitch into the next stitch on the sole of the shoe to end the
row.
If you want, you could keep adding more rows of slip stitches to thicken the thong of the
shoe even more.
But I'm going to end the work here.
So I'm going to cut off my yarn.
I'm going to cut off a long tail, and I'll use that tail to sew the shoe to the doll's
foot later.
And then, I'm going to repeat the same thing to create another shoe.
Now that the flip flops are done, I'll show you how to make the boots and sneakers.
These are almost exactly the same, except, for the boots I'll start my rows at the back
of the shoe, and work the entire shoe in rows.
And for the sneakers, I'll start at the front of the work, and work the beginning in the
round, then switch to working in rows for the top part of the shoe, so the front will
stay open.
I'm also going to add a tongue to the front of the sneakers when I'm done.
I'll start with the boots.
First, I'm going to pull up a loop at the middle back of the shoe sole, into the same
stitches I worked into in the previous row, behind the slip stitches I made in the previous
row.
Then I'm going to chain 1, and that's going to count as the first stitch of the row.
So I'm going to mark that stitch.
Then I'm going to single crochet in each of the next stitches that I worked into in the
previous row, behind each of those the slip stitches I made in the previous row, until
I get to the end of the row.
For the sneakers, I'm going to do the same thing, except I'm going to use a different
color yarn, and I'm going to start at the middle front instead of the middle back.
Right now, though, both sides of the sole of the shoe are exactly the same.
So it doesn't really matter yet which side you start.
Alright, I've gotten to the end of the row, now for the boots, to begin the next row I'm
going to ch 1 for the first stitch of the next row, turn the work, and single crochet
into the 3rd stitch from the hook.
For the boots, I'm going to start every row this way to work the rest of the shoe in rows.
For the sneakers, though, I'm going to begin the next row by single crocheting into the
1st stitch of the previous row, to work the stitches in a spiral.
I'm going to continue to work in the round for the first part of the sneaker.
So next, for both styles of shoe, I'm going to continue to single crochet into each stitch
for 2 more rows, until the top of the shoe is the right height for the foot.
You can continue to single crochet for as many rows as you like.
Alright, I've finished my rows of single crochet for both the boot and the sneaker.
Now I'm going to start to decrease for the foot, and the heel, of the shoe.
To do that, I'm going to decrease 3 times at the front of the shoe, and decrease 3 times
at the back of the shoe, until the width of the heel is the right size.
I'm just going to do this for 1 row.
For the boots, I decreased 2 on the first side of the back at the beginning of the row,
and decreased 1 on the other side of the back when I got to the end of the row, since I
started my row at the middle back of the shoe sole.
So I need to decrease the first stitch of the row.
To do that when working in rows, instead of chaining 1 to count as the first stitch of
the row, I'm just going to skip the chain, and single crochet into the 2nd chain from
the hook to decrease the first stitch, and mark that stitch as the first stitch of the
row.
Now I'm going to decrease the next 2 stitches together, so that I have 2 decreases on this
side of the row.
Then I'm going to single crochet until I get to the front, and I'm going to decrease the
front 3 times.
Then single crochet until I get to the end of the row, where I'm going to decrease one
more time.
For the sneakers, I'm going to do the same thing, except I'm going to work in the round.
So I'm going to do my 2 decreases into the first 4 stitches of the row.
Single crochet until the front.
Then decrease 3 at the front.
Then single crochet until the last 2 stitches of the row, and decrease again.
And, if you're making slippers, you can end the work here, and do a row of slip stitches
all the way around to finish the edge.
Or if you want taller shoes, continue to add more rows.
Next, I'm going to start to decrease 3 at the front of the shoe until the top of the
shoe reaches about the same width as the doll's leg.
If you're making a larger size for the sneaker, you might want to continue to decrease at
the front of the shoe for a few rows in the round first, until the toe of the shoe is
the right length, before switching to working in rows for the open part of the shoe.
I'm not going to do this, though, since I'm making a smaller size.
So I'm going to start to work in rows, just like the boots, so that the front will be
open.
I decreased both styles of shoe at the front for just 1 row.
For the boots, since I started the row at the back, I'm just going to decrease 3 at
the middle front.
But for the sneakers, since I started the row at the middle front, I need to decrease
the first stitch of the row when working in rows.
So again, instead of chaining 1 to count as the first stitch of the row, just single crochet
into the 2nd chain from the hook to decrease the first stitch, and mark that stitch as
the first stitch of the row.
Now I'm going to decrease one more on this side, then I'm going to single crochet until
the end of the row, where I'm going to decrease 1 more.
I'm just going to decrease the front for 1 more row, because I'm making these for such
a small doll.
But if you're making a larger size, keep adding more rows of decreasing at the front.
But for each row after the first one, decrease 1 more per side per row at the front of shoe,
to make a space for the tongue of the shoe.
So in total, you would be decreasing five times.
Three at the beginning of the row, and 2 at the end of the row.
Only do this for the sneakers, though.
Since the boots don't have a tongue you don't need to make a space for one.
So if you're making a larger size of boots, just decrease at the front 3 times instead
of 5.
If you're making low top shoes, end the work here, and do a row of slip stitches all the
way around to finish the edge.
Or if you want taller shoes, continue adding more rows.
Next, for both styles of shoe, I'm just going to keep on adding rows of single crochet until
the top of the shoe reaches a good length.
I single crocheted for 5 more rows for the boots, and for 4 more rows for the sneakers.
But you can go on for as many rows as you like.
Make sure that for the last row of single crochet, you're working on the inside of the
shoe, so that the next row of slip stitches is on outside of the work.
When the shoe reaches the right length, I'm going to make a row of slip stitches.
So chain 1 for the first stitch.
Then slip stitch in the third chain from the hook.
And slip stitch in each stitch of the row.
At the end of the row, chain 1 to end the work, cut off the yarn and sew in the end.
And now all the shoes are done.
Now you could sew them closed on the doll, or you could make laces to make the shoes
removable.
In the next part of the video, I'll show you how to finish the rest of the sneaker, and
how to make the laces.
