Woodturning Wizard Wands For Young Wizards - Duration: 7:29.

Hi, Alan Stratton from As Wood Turns (www.AsWoodTurns.com) My granddaughter is having a birthday party

and wanted it to be a wizarding party. So, her mother asked me for some wizard wands

for the party. So, I decided – Well. What do you do for a granddaughter. Well, you do

almost anything for a granddaughter. So, I thought let's make some wizard wands. At

first, I thought, let's make something that is eccentric, an off axis sort of woodturning.

But, these are preteens, maybe I should keep it very simple because some will appreciate

it but others will probably not appreciate a good woodturning at the party.

So, I focused on making handles with everyone different. Then scrounge from my yard various

wands that would serve as any Harry Potter type wand you could want. Perfectly suited

for a young wizard. So I made two handles out of walnut with various twigs of some sort

here. A couple out of hazelnut. One out of fig left over from Oregon. And, two or three

out of elm. The twigs are from apple, cherry, the root of maple. Almost anything in my yard

that did not have a pithy center. The one I particularly like is this one. I

hope you can see what it did. This is the root of a rose bush that I dug up. I cut off

a small knob and turned it. When I turned it, it was straight. But it got into the mode

of the wizarding world, it promptly kinked on over to be a perfect handle for a young

wizards wand. Let's make a set of young wizards wands.

I found a piece of walnut in my scrap bin. It was too wide so I ripped it on the bandsaw

to a width equal to its thickness. Now, I'm mounting it in the long neck jaws of the scroll

chuck. I am rounding it off focusing on cutting a tenon for a better mount into the scroll

chuck using a gouge for rough work and a skew to refine the tenon. I may be able to get

two wand handles from this piece. Next to finish roughing the walnut and trimming

the end. For roughing I'm using a spindle roughing gouge followed by a small spindle

gouge. Now to drill a ¼" hole between 1 ½"

to 2" in depth. However, I used a skew to put a starting point in the spindle because

my drill bit was wobbling off center. Returning to spindle work, I'm using a cone

center in the end hole to stabilize the spindle while I shape the handle with a small gouge

then with a skew for a fine finish cut. I decided to call this shape my apple core shape

– a flare on both ends of a long shallow cove.

Now to sand starting with 180 and ending with 320 or 400. I'm finishing with beeswax and

mineral oil. Maybe 10 year-olds will not put the wand in their mouth but I cannot guarantee

a younger brother or sister will not. Finally to part off the handle and touch up the end.

One down 10 to go. Next I'll whittle down the end of a crooked branch for the wand shaft.

For the next handle, I've selected a piece of fig from my tree in Oregon. This is now

dry. It has a pithy center. I'm mounting it between centers centered in this pith.

As usual, I'm roughing it with a spindle roughing gouge, then cutting a tenon with

a small spindle gouge and a skew. Whoops I dropped it. I'm replacing the drive

center with the scroll chuck and remounting the spindle. Now I'm trimming the end just

a little preparing to drill the same ¼" hole at least 1 ½" deep. This is easy as

I'm essentially just drilling out the soft pith.

Now to shape the handle. I want all the handles a little different from each other. This one

reminds me of a bishop from a chess set. I'm using a small spindle gouge.

The spindle has a nasty crack near the top. I'm using CA glue and some shavings to fill

the crack. Then apply accelerator then more CA glue and more accelerator before continuing.

Another good time to make sure I'm wearing a face shield in case a deep pocket of glue

is still liquid. Then sand a finish with beeswax and mineral oil. Three down eight or nine

to go. I recently dug up a rose bush and saved the

root. For this wand I've cut off a small knob from the root and carefully mounted it

between centers. The wood is very wet. I'm roughing with a spindle roughing gouge. Then

cutting a very short tenon – I don't have much length to spare. Then mount it in the

scroll chuck so I can drill the end hole. Next, drill the ¼" hole into the end. I

think I'm following pretty much the same process.

Now for the final shaping. Whew, I've finished all ten wands with a

spare. My favorite is the rose bush root. In drying, it kind of kinked itself over.

Perfect for a young wizard's wand. All have replaceable shafts or blades. All are finished

with food safe beeswax and mineral oil. All handles are different from each other. All

shafts or blades are unique. I hope my grand daughter and her friends enjoy them and don't

poke each other too much. How could I stop them?

That's a wrap - we'll see you again next week for another woodturning video. Please

give this video a thumbs up, subscribe and tell your friends. Always wear your full face

shield –goggles are not enough protection. Until next week, this is Alan Stratton from

As Wood Turns dot com. Let's keep turning.

Dem rep responds to Trump I bet FBI will find some witches

BY AIDA CHAVEZ

Dem rep responds to Trump: I bet FBI will find some witches

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) on Thursday ripped President Trump's claims of a "witch hunt"

against him, predicting the FBI would find some witches in its investigation into

Trump.

Dear @realDonaldTrump: I will bet you a bottle of fine CA wine that America's professional

& dedicated FBI agents find some witches.

#MAGA, Lieu tweeted.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the special counsel appointed to investigate

possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia is now looking into whether Trump

sought to obstruct justice.

Trump decried the reported news earlier Thursday, saying he's the victim of "the single greatest

WITCH HUNT in American political history."

What Makes a Vowel a Vowel and a Consonant a Consonant - Duration: 4:11.

What Makes a Vowel a Vowel and a Consonant a Consonant

You already know that vowels in the English alphabet are a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes

y, while the rest of the letters are called consonants.

But did you ever ask yourself why the letters were divided into two separate groups?

Basically, a vowel is a sound that is made with the mouth and throat not closing at any

point.

In contrast, a consonant is a sound that is made with the air stopping once or more during

the vocalization.

That means that at some point, the sound is stopped by your teeth, tongue, lips, or constriction

of the vocal cords.

The difference explains why "y" is only "sometimes" a vowel.

Depending on which word "y" is being used in, it can represent different sounds.

In words like "myth" or "hymn," the letter takes on a sound like a short "i"

and the mouth and throat don't close when the sound is made.

However, in words like "beyond," it acts as a bridge between the "e" and the "o,"

and there is some partial closure, making "y" a consonant.

Another forgotten letter that has the same qualities as "y" is "w."

While "w" is almost always a consonant, it is considered a vowel at the end of words

like "wow" or "how."

You can see for yourself when saying these words that your mouth doesn't fully close

while pronouncing the letter.

There are, of course, other differences between vowels and consonants.

For instance, in English you can have vowels that are entire words, such as "a" or

"I."

You won't see a consonant that is a word by itself, however.

Words in English need vowels to break up the sounds that consonants make.

So, while every word has to have a vowel, not every word has to have a consonant.

There are strings of consonants that are sometimes written like full words, like "hmm."

However, these are just sounds rather than actual words.

You will also find that most words in English won't have more than three consonants in

a row, because otherwise it gets to be too difficult for English-speakers to say it.

There are exceptions, of course—take the word "strengths" for example, which has

a string of five consonants (though it only has three consonant sounds in a row: ng, th,

and s).

In other languages, like Polish, long strings of consonants are more common.

Of course, there are also sounds made by consonants that can be repeated over and over without

a vowel sound.

If you were to repeat "z" over and over, like the sound of a buzzing bee, you would

find that your mouth remains slightly open and the sound is seemingly unobstructed—so

shouldn't it fall under the "vowel" category?

The letter "z," along with the letter "s," actually fall under a subcategory

of consonants called "fricatives."

Fricatives are sounds you make by pushing air through a small gap in your teeth.

As you can see, the differences between vowels and consonants are more complex than you were

probably taught in elementary school.

It's less about the letters and more about how your mouth moves when you're saying

them.

Ever wonder why "w" is pronounced "double-u" and not "double-v?"

The Roman Latin alphabet was adapted to be used for Old English.

Old English had a "w" sound, but back then the alphabet didn't have a "w."

Instead, the "v" sound was pretty close, so words that required a "w" were often

represented by a "v" instead.

In the 7th century, scribes started using "uu" to represent the "w" sound, which

is how it got its name.

However, printers used to use "vv" to represent the sound, which is how it got its

shape.

There are very few words in the English language that have two u's in a row, and the only

two that are used frequently are "vacuum" and "continuum."

Nearly all of the "double u" words were adapted from Latin, such as "duumvir,"

meaning "each of a pair of magistrates holding joint office in ancient Rome."

A few are adapted from other languages, such as "muumuu," a loose dress that is traditionally

worn

in Hawaii.

Baseball Joe of the Silver Stars | Chapter 28 - Duration: 8:11.

CHAPTER XXVIII

THE FIGHT

There was a moment of silence following Joe's remark about being made regular pitcher.

Then Clara laughed and it was almost a laugh of relief, for she had been under quite a

strain since she came in and heard the bad news.

"Oh, you silly boy!" cried Clara.

"Just as if your being made pitcher was going to help.

I suppose you'll turn all your salary in to help out now; won't you?"

but there was no sting intended in her words and, fearing there might have been just the

touch of it, she crossed the room and tried to slip her arm up around Joe's neck.

"No, you don't!" he cried as gaily as possible under the circumstances, "fen on

kissing.

But say, dad, is it as bad as all that?

Have Benjamin and his crowd beaten you?"

"I'm afraid so, son.

At least they've won the first skirmish in the battle.

Now it's up to the courts, and it may take a year or more to settle the question of whether

or not I have any rights in the inventions I originated.

But don't let that[222] worry you," he went on more cheerfully.

"We'll make out somehow.

I'm glad you got the place you wanted.

How was the game?"

"Pretty good.

It was so tight we had to play ten innings.

But can't I do something to help you, dad?"

"We can't do anything right away," rejoined Mr. Matson.

"We can only wait.

I shall have to see a lawyer, and have him look after my interests.

I never thought that Mr. Benjamin and Mr. Holdney would treat me this way.

"But don't worry.

Perhaps we shall come out all right, and in the end this may be a good thing.

It will teach me a lesson never again to trust any one where patents are concerned.

I should have had a written contract and not taken their mere word that they would treat

me right."

"And you are out of the harvester works?" asked Joe.

"Out completely," and Mr. Matson smiled.

"I have a holiday, Joe, and I'm coming to see you pitch some day."

"But—but," ventured Clara, "if you haven't any work, dad, you won't get any

money and——"

"Oh, so that's what is worrying you!" cried her father with a laugh as he placed

his arm around her.

"Well, have no fears.

There are[223] still a few shots in the locker, and we're not going to the poorhouse right

away.

Now, Joe, tell us all about the ball game."

Which the young pitcher did with great enthusiasm.

"But won't this Sam Morton be angry with you?" asked Mrs. Matson, who was a gentle

woman, always in fear of violence.

"Oh, I don't suppose he'll be very friendly toward me," replied Joe.

"Then he may do you some injury."

"Well, I guess I can take care of myself.

I'm not afraid of him, mother, and if it comes to a fight——"

"Oh, you horrid boys—always thinking about fighting!" interrupted Clara.

"Don't you fight, Joe!"

"I won't if I can help it, sis."

Next morning, Joe was in two states of mind.

He was delighted at being the regular pitcher for the Stars, but he was downcast when he

thought that to go to the boarding school was now out of the question.

And that it would be impossible for him to think of it under the present financial state

of the family was made plain to him when he spoke of the matter to his mother.

[224]

"I'm sorry, Joe," she said, "but you'll have to give up the idea."

"All right," he answered, as cheerfully as he could, but he went out of the house

quickly for there was a suspicious moisture in his eyes, and a lump in his throat that

would not seem to go down, no matter how hard he swallowed.

"Oh, I'm a chump!" he finally exclaimed.

"I shouldn't want to go to an expensive boarding school when dad is in such trouble.

And yet—and yet—Oh!

I do want to get on a big team and pitch!"

In the days that followed Joe saw little of his father, for Mr. Matson was out of town

trying to get matters in shape for the court proceedings.

But Joe was kept busy at practice with the Stars, and in playing games.

The season was in full swing and the Silver Stars seemed to have struck a streak of winning

luck.

Some said it was Joe's pitching, for really he was doing very well.

Others laid it just to luck and talked darkly of a "slump."

"There won't be any slump if you fellows keep your eyes open, and hit and run," said

the manager.

The county league season was drawing to a close, and as it stood now the championship

practically[225] lay between the Stars and their old enemies the Resolutes.

There was some talk of playing off a tie, if it should come to that, but when Darrell

mentioned this to the Resolute manager he was told that the latter team had all dates

filled to the end of the season.

"We can't give you a game," he announced.

"It's too bad," said Darrell, "for we ought to decide which is the best team."

"Oh, ours is, of course.

Didn't we wallop you once?"

"Well, you can't do it again," was the quick retort.

It was several days after this when Joe was coming home from afternoon practice in preparation

for a game Saturday with the Red Stockings.

As he took a short cut over the fields to get home more quickly, he was aware of a figure

coming toward him.

When too late to turn back he saw it was Sam Morton.

Sam saw Joe and came to a halt.

"Well," asked Sam with a sneer, "how is the high-and-mighty pitcher?

I suppose you've been doing nothing else but handing out no-hit and no-run games?"

"Not quite as good as that," admitted Joe with what he meant for a friendly smile.

[226]

"Who you laughing at?"

demanded Sam fiercely.

"I wasn't laughing," replied Joe.

"Yes, you were!

You were laughing at me and I won't stand it.

You worked and schemed to get me out of the nine so you could go in, and now you're

making fun of me, I won't stand it, I tell you.

You think you're a pitcher!

Well you're not, and you'll never be.

I won't be made fun of!"

All the pent-up anger—unreasoning as it was,—all the hate that had been accumulating

for weeks in Sam, burst out at once.

He made a spring for Joe, but the pitcher stepped back.

Not in time, however, for he received a blow on the chest.

Now I am not defending Joe for what he did.

I am only telling of what happened.

Joe was a manly lad yet he had all the instincts and passions that normal lads have.

When he was hit his first instinct was to hit back, and he did it in this case.

His left fist shot forward and clipped Sam on the chin.

The blow was a staggering one and for a moment the former pitcher reeled.

Then with a roar of rage he came back at Joe, and the pair were at it hammer and tongs.

"I'll show you that you can't come sneaking[227] around here and steal my place!" blubbered

Sam, as he aimed a blow at Joe's face.

"I didn't sneak!" retorted Joe, as he dodged the blow and got a right-hander near

Sam's solar plexus.

Both lads were evenly matched and the fight might have gone on for some time but for Sam's

rage which made him reckless.

He left unguarded openings of which Joe took quick advantage, and finally, with a straight

left, he sent Sam to the grass.

"I—I'll fix you for that!" yelled the former pitcher as he rushed at Joe.

It was easy to step aside and avoid the clumsy blow, and once more Sam went down.

This time he did not get up so quickly, and there was a dazed look on his face.

"See here!" cried Joe, stepping over to him.

"This has gone far enough.

I didn't want to fight, but you made me.

I can beat you and you know it.

If you don't stop now I'll knock you down every time you get up until you've had enough."

It was brutal talk, perhaps, but it was well meant.

For a moment Sam looked up at his antagonist.

Then he murmured:

"I've had enough—for the present."

BREAKING: The Hunt Is On for Documents "Unlawfully Removed" By Comey - Duration: 2:42.

James Comey may be bitter at the president about being fired from the FBI, but for a

newly emerging scandal, he has only himself to blame. The former FBI director famously

used memos to make allegations against Donald Trump, and had friends "leak" the documents

to the media to put pressure on the president. Now, a well-known watchdog group is on the hunt

for those memos, and claims that they were "unlawfully removed" from government offices

by Comey.According to Fox News, the group Judicial Watch believes that Comey violated

the Federal Records Act.

It is asking acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe to investigate that violation — and may

pursue a lawsuit against the bureau if the request is ignored."As you may be aware,

the Federal Records Act imposes a direct responsibility on you to take steps to recover any records

unlawfully removed from the FBI," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton wrote in a letter

to McCabe."Upon learning that records have been unlawfully removed from the FBI, you

then are required to initiate action through the Attorney General for the recovery of records,"

the letter continued. It's no secret that the memos exist.

Comey himself used the self-written documents as his "Exhibit A" against Trump, and

testified before Congress that he provided the memos to reporters as part of his own

agenda."I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter — I

thought that might prompt the appointment of special counsel," Comey said while under

oath. That choice could have serious consequences."We're looking to get action on the records that

Comey unlawfully took from the FBI, and we know initially there are memos, but depending

on what the nature of the documents are, there could be liabilities for Mr. Comey," Fitton

said, according to Fox.The primary question regarding the controversy is whether Comey's

memos are considered private correspondence, or official FBI records.

If they were written at the FBI office and kept there for safekeeping, the latter scenario

seems likely.Judicial Watch has pledged to file a lawsuit in federal district court if

the FBI does not respond by June 26."The former FBI director isn't above the law

and current leadership of the FBI should stop protecting him and take action," Fitton

told Fox.It looks like James Comey's long year certainly isn't over yet — and it's

time for him to answer hard questions about his actions. Please share this news if you

would like the memos recovered and released! What do you think of this possible lawsuit?

Hello Friends , Today I will show you how to make creamy mango custard.

Ingredients are 650 ml milk, 4-5 tbsp fresh cream, 3 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp mango flavor custard powder.

2-3 tbsp milk for mixing custard, fruits(1 apple, pomegranate, 2 mango,2 banana)

Cut apple later on otherwise it turns black.

Boil milk and add sugar.

Side by side mix custard powder with milk kept separately.

No lumps should be in it.

Add custard mix and keep stirring continuosly otherwise lumps will form in milk.

Consistency should be like this.

Cook for 2-3 minutes and set aside to cool.

Beat fresh cream with whisker or electric beater.

It will become fluffy and double in quantity.

IMP TIP-when cream sticks to the hands of beater then its done.

If its flowing from electric beater then it still needs to be beaten.

Grind mango and leave some for decoration.

Mix all ingredients. Custard, mango pulp and beaten cream.

Once again beat with whisker or electric beater for 1 minute.

Monolith Soft on Xenoblade 2's Localization - Duration: 4:16.

Monolith Soft CEO recently chatted to Kotaku about both Xenoblade Chronicles X's, as well

as the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Western localisations.

Chronicles X had various changes made to it oversees and their words have given lots of

insight into this and have also given lots of other info about the localisation process,

including details on Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

To quote: "In terms of Xenoblade Chronicles X, there's

been a few different changes that were made to the game, but my personality is such that

I'm not a stickler for products that I've already made, so I don't really mind what

the final product turns out to be in that sense.

I really didn't mind much at all, actually."

"As a developer, I do feel like it'd be ideal to be able to adjust the content so

that it's culturally acceptable, whether it's in the US or in the EU.

For example, there was a discussion about the breast slider.

Jokingly, I said, 'Well would it help if we had a crotch slider for the male?'

Obviously it was a joke, but they responded obviously it's not gonna work out.

I do realize there's a cultural difference between what Japanese people think and what

the rest of the world thinks."

So here we have the Monolith Soft head, explain that they do not mind that the game was changed

and that he feels that it's good to adjust content to make it more culturally acceptable.

They also highlight how Nintendo told them that keeping the breast slider in the Western

versions of the game "wouldn't work out".

The next question is on whether he feels he is being censored or not, to which they reply:

"I think what's important is that we make sure that the end user who actually plays

the game doesn't have a bad experience.

If that change is going to help alleviate that, then I think we should definitely make

it."

Following this, we have the new information that it will be Nintendo of Europe localizing

Xenoblade Chronicles 2, like the original.

Additionally, next we have a Nintendo Director, who works for Nintendo's Japanese division

(NCL) talk about all of the different departments cooperate with localisation.

"When we have costumes or clothes that we have a little concern with, we share it with

NoE and NoA and they'll say, 'No, no, that's fine' or 'You're right, that's

an issue.'

If it is an issue, we'll go back and say we'll say, 'We adjusted it this way, what

do you think?'

There's a lot of back and forth in that sense.

Rather than compromise, it's like we're all aiming for the same goal, of being able

to provide a good experience for everybody in all regions.

And we're aiming to have a game that has very little difference between the regions."

Next up, we even have Reggie themselves comment on the situation.

"The creators are always involved in anything that happens in the localization process.

In terms of what gets localized, there's a simple collection of words that we use to

define how we think about this: It's 'cultural relevance' and 'understanding of the ratings

and ratings implications.'

– As an example, that a character's age might be changed to avoid an M rating in a

game – A more severe rating could make the game

harder for Nintendo to sell, "which clearly is not in the best interest of the developers

or the business for that to happen" – Nintendo of America's Treehouse localizers

travel to Japan about "every two months" to work with Japanese developers whose work

is being brought to America "It's during those meetings that they

discuss the localization process, what's being evaluated.

I am extremely comfortable with the process.

And again if you look at our executives that are involved, Nate Bihldorff and members of

this team, they have deep relationships with the developers and everything is being done

with the best intentions of the content showing itself the best way it can."

And to finish, we have Monolith Soft's CEO offer some final words on Xenoblade 2.

"We're really building [the game] as we're in discussion.

Whereas for the past title, the Japanese version had already been pretty much close to completion

when this [localization] discussion started."

"For past titles, because the Japanese version was done, our challenge was then to figure

out what it is we need to do to make sure this game is made available in overseas, as

well as, we're able to sell this product.

In that sense, I was open to making any changes that were necessary to make sure everybody

can enjoy this game."

As always, Censored Gaming will be watching Xenoblade 2's localisation very closely for

changes made due to these types of reasons.

Xenoblade 2 will launch in both Japan and the West simultaneously sometime at the end

of the year, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
