In this video, we'll break down everything discussed in the short but sweet Developer
interview for Anthem at E3 2017,
Not a huge amount was really explained but there are a few things we can glean from.

Uk, I did
a Leafy reference,
WHAT HAVE I BECOME?!?!?
Ok, so this may seem obvious, but there was no guarantee of a fully open world from the
gameplay reveal trailer, it looked that way, but so does MEA until you hit a border,
I'm really hoping, by the way, he's selling it there that what you can see in the reveal
trailer as they jump off the edge of the fort is only a portion of it and that we can travel
to everything we see in that trailer,
Again, not a huge extra, but more evidence is always good.
The way he says inhabit gives me hope for the kind of thing that Warcraft has been doing
over the last few years with phased zones for Guild Halls and a little plot to call
your own, this could be very cool but also an extremely loose thing to base this on,
so don't put all your hopes on this.
His unwillingness to talk about the world name makes me think it is either Earth or
it is set in an already existing universe, but as that would seem somewhat unlikely,
I'd put my money on it being earth.
Another cool purely speculative idea would be that maybe it is set far in the future
of Bioshock,
I'm still convinced that aliens aren't a thing yet, I'm open to them being introduced later
but at the moment, zero evidence is there for Aliens, so it seems highly unlikely they
are part of this story but there are Monsters, he even mentions this in a minute,
Bioware tends to go science heavy about magic and the like, so for monsters to be here if
it were earth, a crap tonne of evolution has happened, maybe helped via radiation.
Fort Tarsus as we expected is the main hub, but I still think this is only at the beginning
of the game,
My reveal trailer breakdown pointed out the walkers are far more likely to be cargo hauliers
than offensive or defensive tech, meaning that there are other settlements or forts
around.
All of this does fit quite well with the name Tarsus, which is the name of a Turkish city
that has 6000 years of recorded history and was very well known as a huge trading hub
for that area.
Tarsus is also where Saint Paul was born and where Mark Anthony first met Cleopatra, so
yeah, cool stuff.
I
can feel how hard it is not to say that it's kinda like Destiny,
Let's face it, you wouldn't want your game compared to another when it is different in
so many other ways.
He also mentions how it's frictionless and that they want you to play how you want to
play,
This just screams sandbox,
While there will obviously be some main story quest lines, I am certain this will be a heavy
sandbox world.
This leans towards the sandbox aspect too, without a specific antagonist that is there
constantly as the main guy to beat,
This also points toward smaller yet more often DLC and expansions,
It's easy to see that the most successful games around nowadays are the ones who push
updates and new content on a very fast turnover, just look at Ark, every 2 weeks especially
at the beginning it had new content, mini patches and the like,
If they go this way, it will add huge staying power.
His reluctance to talk about PVP means one of 4 things,
There is no PVP,
They haven't fully decided or planned out whether they even want it,
PVP could be tied to factions and they wish to not saying anything on that just yet, different
factions would likely lead to different forts or cities and they currently only show one
of them.
Or PVP will become a huge expansion ARK in the story which they cannot yet reveal.
The way he says about humanity trying to thrive here makes me think 2 things,
either this is Earth and maybe Bioshock future or just post-apocalyptic, humanity here is
clearly trying to regain it's stance on the planet if so,
or it is an alien planet, and humanity is trying to colonise it, the one problem with
this is the ruins, we don't know if the ruins in the world are human or not,
Whether it is or not would answer this one.
The flying aspect kinda points toward it not being the classic zone layout, RPG's and MMO
traditionally have zones, and each zone is good for a certain level or capability of
player, the flying kind of makes that system a little weird,
As I pointed out in the trailer breakdown, the way she avoids big beastie seems as though
things aren't levelled to your character, levelling to your character on a full scale
also doesn't really fit the MMO aspect.
I'm really hoping that there will be elite zones, or maybe even no-fly zones, but the
majority will work with a base layer of lower level mobs with elite or just higher levels
randomly placed amongst them but also random encounters for very high-level fellows.
It's going to be super interesting to see how they have made this system.
He talks about load outs and the like, but I think from what we've seen the loadout will
only apply to the Javelin,
I would expect you need to see an engineer to upgrade or just update your Javelin, but
weapons themselves appear to be possible to switch out in the field,
When the PoV hero Michelle got that Legendary Volt rifle, you can see that it is auto-equipped,
this is confirmed via the numbers to the right of the reticule saying 60 and 240, the max
ammo on the weapon shown in the trailer said 300 so 60 in mag 240 spares, no menus came
up to switch this.
It didn't tell us though whether you can equip more than one weapon at a time or have to
switch from your inventory.
That's a yes, just so we're clear.
It
wouldn't surprise me if that the only reason they don't want to talk about it yet is that
they don't want to have to deal with nothing but questions over whether the game caters
for LGBTQ as let's face it, the bad press for MEA's LGBTQ curfuffle was way over the
top.
So
lots of DLC and Expansions, hopefully, new playable areas and the like, great stuff,
they're committed.
The interviewer kind of skews the perception of this answer, it's pre-alpha, it's obviously
not 2017, the Director of Anthem says 2018 I think, I personally take this as a hopefully
2018 but maybe even 2019, I am expecting a late 2018 release, Quarter 4,
They won't want to rush this
and I really hope they don't.
This Bolsters my speculation on the lack of Government for the story,
You play as freelancers and everything that's been said points to you not only being a Hero
of some sort but also choosing to do this for exploration and humanity in general.
This type of world would definitely have bad guys and would be highly unstable.
Land and resources would not be in short supply so the possibility of multiple outposts each
individual in leadership that allow freelancer and traders free passage is quite possible.
Gah! so much speculation, I want answers!!! this is going to be one long harsh wait for
them.
And that's that, short and sweet,
I'm glad we had this interview to shine some light on a few things,
If you enjoyed this breakdown please be sure to like and maybe comment,
I enjoy looking into these things and if there are any other games you would like my 2 cents
on from this years E3 please say ASAP and ill get it out as soon as possible.
Like if you liked, dislike if you didn't, subscribe if you haven't already and have
an awesome day folks!
