Why Do We Need Sleep? - Duration: 3:33.

Oh, hey there!

[Jessi yawns]

Excuse me!

I'm so sorry.

I'm kind of tired today, because I didn't get enough sleep last night!

[Squeaks squeaks]

Aw, thanks, Squeaks!

But I think I'll be alright.

You probably already know that sleep is really important, and that we need to get plenty

of it.

Doctors think that most kids need to get about 10-12 hours of sleep every day!

But sometimes it's hard to go to bed when you're supposed to, especially if you don't

feel tired.

That's why it helps to know what's going on while you're snoozing away at night,

and why sleep is so important.

Think about all of the things you do during the day.

You probably spend a lot of your day playing, or maybe going places like to school or to

the store.

All those activities, and anything else you do, take energy.

Your body still uses energy when you sleep, but it uses less of it.

Since your body uses less energy when you sleep, it has a chance to save some some of

that energy for later.

So you feel good when you wake up the next morning, and you're ready to tackle another

day!

Sleep also gives your body a chance to focus energy on things that help to keep you healthy.

For example, your body uses energy to heal and to grow while you sleep.

Sleep also gives your body a chance to use energy to fight off the germs that can make

you sick.

So, sleep is important for your whole body.

But there's one special part of your body that /really/ needs sleep … your brain!

Sleep not only gives your body a rest, it gives your brain a rest, too!

Your brain is super busy during the day!

It works really hard to make sense of all of the things you see, smell, and hear; it

makes sure that the parts of your body are working together; it helps you make decisions;

and it helps you learn new things.

And that's just some of its jobs!

Your brain doesn't stop working when you sleep, but it does have a chance to slow down

for a bit, and to kind of figure things out.

While you sleep, your brain organizes the things you learned during the day to help

you remember them later.

Your brain also sorts out your feelings while you sleep.

Scientists have also found that your brain needs sleep to help you concentrate, so you

can be better at solving problems at home and at school.

Wow, there's a /lot/ going on while you sleep, even if you don't remember it when

you wake up!

There's so much going on, in fact, that your body usually makes you feel pretty terrible

when you don't get enough sleep.

Too little sleep can make you feel tired, and can make it harder for you to concentrate

or solve problems.

And, since your brain helps sort out your feelings while you're sleeping, you can

also feel cranky or crabby when you don't get enough sleep!

So, what can you do to make sure that you get enough sleep?

First, doctors and other sleep experts say you should have a sleep routine.

That means you should try do the same things every night before we go to bed.

A sleep routine helps your body realize that it's time to go to sleep.

A good routine might include reading a story, having a bath, or maybe listening to some

soft music.

It should also mean going to bed at about the same time every night, and getting up

at about the same time every morning.

That's one of the reasons it's important to have a bedtime!

One thing that /shouldn't/ be part of your sleep routine is watching TV or using a tablet

or phone.

That's because the special light from their screens can send a signal to your body that

it's daytime, even when it's really time for bed!

So now you know why it's so important to get a good night's sleep.

I think I'm going to take a nap!

How Do Sober Queers Party? - Duration: 4:17.

What's good about sobriety, guys?

You know where all your shit is all the time!

I don't lose my clothing anymore.

And I remember yesterday.

I got nothing.

Pretty much every weekend, I go out

partying, and I always go out with a

crew of sober, queer and trans people.

Make sure you have friends that

are around you that support your sobriety.

I won't go out alone.

Going out alone tends to increase my anxiety,

which is a trigger for me.

If you're going out sober

know that there's so many awesome drinks

you can get, that don't have alcohol in them.

Shirley temples, virgin pina coladas,

Perrier, soda pop!

Always make sure you have something in your hand,

or something to drink.

Everybody has

something in their hands around you,

and you feel awkward and weird.

I don't want to feel awkward or weird at a party.

I want to feel good.

Some people in recovery like to drink energy drinks,

coffee, before going out,

to wake yourself up a bit

and have the energy to be dancing

or doing whatever it is you want to do all night.

If you look good, you're going to feel good.

Make sure your outfit looks fly when you go out,

and you're going to feel confident, and you won't

want to drink if you're looking that good.

for going out. So fanny packs are my ultimate accessory

So fanny packs are my ultimate accessory

Make sure you carry gum,

make sure you carry

a water bottle.

Also, if you leave your water laying around

people could put something in it.

So it's good to just know that you're safe

with all of your stuff right

in your crotch.

No.

It's really important when I'm going to a space

where I know there will be drugs or alcohol around,

I have a purpose in that space,

beyond just being there.

So if I'm going to a bar, I make sure I'm going for

live music, I'm going for dancing,

I'm going for a friends birthday party.

Make sure that you try to reduce your vulnerabilities.

Get enough sleep.

Eat.

I've learned to pace my energy.

So one of the things I like to do before I go out,

is I like to make sure that I'm

in a good headspace.

Be prepared physically.

Get some good rest.

Drink lots of water before you go out.

Have a good meal.

Do some push-ups,

get your biceps looking clean and fit.

Do a little dance before you go out.

If you're feeling triggered,

just know what your triggers are beforehand.

I have the right and permission

to leave a space whenever I feel

unsafe, or triggered, or,

like I'm just not having fun anymore, I'm not going to

miss out, and my sobriety comes first.

You can just be selective,

and if you end up somewhere that you aren't comfortable,

you can leave.

I usually have

people around me who are

willing to leave with me, if I need to leave a space.

I have a lot of friends that are

sober allies, and they don't

necessarily

want to be sober.

I think it's just important to have a dialogue,

open communication and, to

be able to trust whoever you're hanging out with.

There's nothing wrong with going out with

people who aren't sober,

as long as they're supportive,

and they understand your boundaries.

I don't really want to make out with somebody

if they're been drinking hard liquor,

like that doesn't sound fun to me.

If you have a friend who doesn't necessarily need

to drink or use to feel comfortable

in social settings, or out partying, then

maybe you can have an open discussion with them

about staying sober for the night with you.

I also make sure that

my phone is charged, so that I can

contact a sponsor or a friend who supports my sobriety.

If you don't get a hold of someone

right away, then send a text to someone else, or

call someone else.

Don't stop until you reach someone.

There's a couple of slogans I like to keep in my mind,

and my favourite one is "remember when".

I think back to the days

when I was using and drinking,

and where that took me,

and I don't ever want to be there again.

I remind myself that first-things-first,

so first thing is I have to make sure that I feel

safe and comfortable in the environment.

Making sure that you

are putting your sobriety first,

make sure that you're putting your priorities first.

Have a slogan or a mantra.

Know your triggers.

Don't try to keep up.

Know your resources.

It's okay to leave.

Have an exit strategy.

You can't get drunk with a dick in your mouth.

Sober queer and trans people to exist.

Good job.

Thank you.

Dope.

Thanks.

MY NYC APARTMENT TOUR!!! 2017 | Lucie Fink - Duration: 8:26.

Hi guys, it's Lucie!

Welcome back to my YouTube channel.

Agh, I have a hair in my mouth.

Welcome back to my YouTube channel.

Thank you for being here.

Today's video has come highly requested.

And I am sorry I have not made this video sooner, but I was really waiting until I cleaned

up first.

In pretty much every video I make I am sitting right in front of the camera and you can see

my living room behind me or my bedroom behind me.

But, a lot of you have been requesting to go on a walking tour of the apartment space.

As many of you might know, I moved out of living with my twin sister and our friend

from college last summer.

So I have lived with my boyfriend for about one year now.

This is our place; we have a one bedroom apartment in Manhattan.

Honestly we do have a lot of space here but I have so many things that I keep bringing

into the apartment; my lights and my tripods and all the camera equipment.

And it's really clogging the place up.

So, I did a bit of a clean-up so that you can see the apartment at its prime.

But know that it gets extremely messy all the time and we do not live like this!

Alright.

Time to go on tour!

I am starting in the hallway outside of my door.

One really fun thing about this apartment is that we have a doorbell.

Coming!

That's fun!

So, once we are inside and the door is behind us, the first thing we have on the right is

the closet.

This is a spare closet we use for all of our jackets, umbrellas…Lots of stuff goes in

here!

This is one of my favorite things in the apartment.

It's a nice metal mirror and it has this gold situation on the bottom where you can

store stuff, and there are hooks on the bottom in case you want to hang up your keys.

This is a very good thing next to the door because we come in, we throw our stuff down,

and we go.

Hey!

I think I'm gonna have to do another video that's just going through my bathroom and

showing you all the beauty products I have and the makeup I use because it's just too

much to include in this video.

But I will show you a few things!

This right here is the charcoal face sponge that I have been using recently to wash my

face.

Each of these mirrors is actually its own cabinet so there's lots of storage back

there.

This is where I keep my makeup.

And this is the shower right here.

It's a bathtub and a shower.

We keep this mat on the floor but it gets very wet!

Leaving the bathroom, I turn the lights off!

Coming this way in the hallway I have some very special paintings.

These are paintings that my mom painted for us.

She loves to pain abstract art with this sort of color scheme: blues and purples and whites.

And she actually told me, which one was it?

She told me that this was supposed to be a forest.

So, she said these were the trees, this was a waterfall, this is maybe more water over

here, and this right here is the sun!

One thing we are really lucky about in this apartment is this extra closet that we have

that kind of dips in like the corner right there.

And split it nice and evenly: Lucie's stuff, Michael's stuff.

So, this is the kitchen space and I love it because it's incredibly open to the rest

of the apartment.

This is the refrigerator where we have some emoji magnets and some pictures of the two

of us.

This is prom, in high school!

I think "what's in my fridge" is also another future video topic, so I'm not gonna open

that right now.

And on top of the fridge we store some Swell water bottles.

Just trying to save the environment!

This cabinet is one of my favorite cabinets in the apartment.

I decorated it like that during "5 Days of Adulting" and we pretty much have left it

intact since then.

The kitchen utensils…

We've got our coffee machine, some spatulas.

Over here we have a little toaster, my blender for the smoothies, a little French press,

and the best thing about this kitchen is...the dishwasher!

And then there's this little island over here and some more cabinetry!

Now we move on to this living room space.

This is my favorite structure in the apartment and we bought it at IKEA!

And it's super easy, you just push and the doors open.

So, we've got our wine glasses and mugs, cups, bowl, plates, more cups.

This is a really handy piece of wood.

And then there are eight drawers underneath it where we store other kitchen items.

I actually use this drawer for my video items; this has like a tripod and a microphone in

it.

Then we're over to the kitchen table.

Another IKEA purchase.

Very simple, white, sleek.

And, oh my gosh, if you liked this piece you are going to love the television piece!

This!

We love it because it's perfect for a big television and it has all of these book shelves.

And something you need to know about Michael is that he is an absolute book freak and he

hoards books!

I'm not gonna complain.

Honestly, it's kind of cool to have books at my disposal; whenever I finish reading

a book I always have a new book right here in the living room.

We also keep a lot of the playbills for a lot of the plays that we see here.

So, we've got some Hamilton playbills, Dear Evan Hansen, more Hamilton, The Humans.

Then we've got some pictures of us up here along with our Derek Jeter pictures for Michael.

This is a fun gift I got for Michael one year for our anniversary.

I thought that we would put pins in all of the places that we had been on our own or

all the places that we wanted to go together.

And then Michael bought all of these photo albums and then printed almost every single

photo in the world of the two of us from our life together, and we are going to put those

in there!

We got these things just to kind of decorate the window ledge.

This is the world's comfiest couch.

And we also have these beautiful new paintings to go above the couch that my mom painted

for us.

Thanks, Mom!

This is a calendar that my family made for me for 2017 with some of the best shots!

Just to orient you quickly in case you are a little bit lost.

Are you understanding the layout?

I hope so.

This is the main space, but we still have the bedroom.

We have a king-sized bed which is really nice.

This is a view you might have seen a couple of times in Try Living with Lucie.

Behind the bed, I have these two soft boxes that I use for my stop-motion videos and I

don't break them down because they take too long to set up.

So, Michael has been the most understanding boyfriend in the entire world and lets me

keep my lights built in our bedroom.

We have these two night tables from IKEA with matching lamps on them.

And this is another structure that I bought from IKEA.

It's basically just a spare closet that stands on its own and it's drilled into the

wall behind it so it doesn't tip forward.

But this is the biggest life-saver in terms of space.

Look at how much stuff I have managed to shove in there!

And then this closet against the wall here was built in when we got here, but Michael

and I did a pretty good job of splitting it 50/50.

So, this side is all Michael's stuff as you can tell from the color scheme and the

clothes.

And this side is all Lucie's stuff!

If anyone has a really good idea of how I can store these shoes please, comment below.

And for those of you who watch my Refinery videos, you'll know that this is the spot

where I sit to shoot my webcams!

And, that's it!

The tour is over.

That is the tour.

Wait, one last thing.

I have these two beautiful paintings that my cameraman Andrew made for me: Try Living

with Lucie and...ducks.

I really feel like I need to make a follow-up video to show you what's in my bathroom,

and what's in my fridge, and what's in my snack cabinet.

Those will come later.

I have a lot more videos up my sleeve.

In the meantime, comment below and let me know if you have any more ideas and what you

want to see me do on this channel.

The world is your oyster and I am here for you!

Why Serena Joy From The Handmaid's Tale Looks So Familiar - Duration: 5:48.

When The Handmaid's Tale premiered on Hulu, you might have noticed quite a few familiar

faces—including Yvonne Strahovski, who plays Serena Joy.

If you're wondering where you've seen Strahovski before, well you're in luck—we've put together

a list of her most visible roles over the years.

Chuck

For five years, Strahovski played CIA agent Sarah Walker on the NBC action spy comedy

Chuck.

Agent Walker is one of the agents assigned to protect Chuck after he accidentally downloads

secret government information into his brain.

While her primary mission was to keep Chuck safe from the rogue groups trying to capture

him, her cover as Chuck's "girlfriend" eventually became the real deal.

Strahovski's character on Chuck was a fan favorite, and she went on to win both a Teen

Choice Award and two TV Guide Awards for her work.

Mass Effect

Strahovski first lent her voice to the character of Miranda Lawson in the mobile spin-off game

Mass Effect Galaxy, then hit the video game franchise full-time in Mass Effect 2 and the

follow-up, Mass Effect 3.

But she provided more than a voice for the character — Miranda was actually designed

to look like Strahovski.

"They scanned my face into it and then they made me brunette.

And then the body is not mine.

The body is not mine!"

Strahovski was nominated for a Spike Video Game Award for her role as Lawson, and Lawson

has frequently been included in "Hottest Video Game Character" lists.

If that Mass Effect movie project can ever get off the ground, here's hoping Strahovski

will be back.

Killer Elite

After years of acting mostly in TV shows, Yvonne Strahovski landed one of her first

big film roles with 2011's Killer Elite, where she starred as Jason Statham's love interest.

Their attempt to start a romance runs into a few roadblocks along the way, however, and

they both get caught up in a deadly game of cat and mouse with international killers.

Killer Elite wasn't a massive hit with critics, but it showcased Strahovski's acting abilities

and primed her career for even bigger roles to come.

The Guilt Trip

In a twist on the traditional road trip movie, The Guilt Trip chronicles the cross-country

adventure of Joyce and her adult son, Andy, played by Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen.

Along the way, of course, two discover a lot more about themselves than they planned.

Yvonne Strahovski plays a small but memorable role as one of Andy's old girlfriends who

rescues them when their car breaks down.

While it's a relatively small part, Strahovski definitely helps Streisand turn the awkward

up to 11 during this cringe-inducing scene.

Dexter

Showtime's serial-killer drama Dexter ran for eight seasons, and one of the highlights

of the last two of those seasons was the introduction of Hannah McKay, played by Strahovski, a woman

with secrets just as dark as Dexter's.

McKay's complicated romantic relationship with Dexter evolves until the final episode,

and eventually comes to a head as the two killers attempt to flee the country together.

We're not sure how many real relationships start with attempted murder, but on Dexter,

what else would you expect?

24: Live Another Day

Although Strahovski played a CIA agent in both Chuck and 24, the character of Kate Morgan

couldn't be more different from the light-hearted role of Sarah Walker on Chuck.

In 24: Live Another Day, Morgan is the widow of another CIA agent who committed suicide

after he was accused of treason.

True to the show's style, Kate Morgan is a gritty, serious character who doesn't pull

any punches as she ruthlessly tracks down Jack Bauer and works to uncover his true motives.

Along the way, she learns the shocking truth behind her husband's alleged treason.

I, Frankenstein

This action-fantasy film drops the reanimated monster of Victor Frankenstein into an epic

struggle between good and evil that makes its way to the modern day.

Caught in the middle of this conflict is Yvonne Strahovski's character, Terra, a scientist

conducting experiments on reanimation for Naberius, played by Bill Nighy—not realizing

his true nature as a demon.

Frankenstein's monster must do his best to not only defeat Naberius and foil his plans,

but also save Terra before the demon prince can use her to create an army of undead.

The Astronaut Wives Club

This ABC miniseries aired in 2015 and chronicled the lives of the wives of the "Mercury Seven"—America's

first astronauts.

Set during NASA's most tumultuous period, the show covers everything from the first

manned American flight in space to the first moon landing.

While obviously dramatized for television, it's an intriguing look at women thrust into

the spotlight simply because of who they were married to.

Strahovski co-stars as Rene Carpenter, wife of Scott Carpenter, who flew in the second

orbital mission.

Manhattan Night

In this crime drama from 2016, Strahovski pairs up with Adrien Brody, who plays Porter,

a crime reporter in New York City.

The pair start an illicit romance when Strahovski's character, Caroline, contacts him to uncover

information about her husband's recent mysterious death.

Soon, they find themselves caught up in a mystery bigger than they'd imagined.

Manhattan Night is a stylish modern noir that didn't make any big waves on its release,

but it showed off Strahovski's acting range.

And now that she's co-starring in Hulu's hit series The Handmaid's Tale, there's no telling

where Yvonne Strahovski's career will go next.

Making Teaching Happen | The Meeting House - Duration: 3:05.

I've heard it said that a sermon is never really done it just eventually

becomes Sunday morning, and that's been my experience. I do a lot of reading and

research throughout the week, with the help of others, I don't actually start

assembling my sermon until Friday and Saturday often into the wee late night

hours Saturday night. When I finally finish my part I click send, and send it

off to the rest of the team and I catch a few hours sleep while they pick up

where I left off.

Well people are just generally surprised. They don't expect that you have to start five

hours before the first service to get everything set up. Basically my job is to

load everything in, make sure it gets recorded, set up the video cameras, and by

then the rest of the staff and volunteers are arriving.

By the time arrive the team is waiting to do a final review of the content. We typically make

time there and then for some last-minute input and adjustment. Funny thing is as

an introvert up until this point in the process, I am nervous. It's not actually

until I walk out and begin to teach that I remember this is not about me it's all

about Jesus.

Most people don't have the chance to see behind the scenes into

everything that goes into producing our Sunday morning teaching at The Meeting

House it is definitely a team effort. By this point there have been overseers,

elders, and pastors, as well as as people in our church community, who have helped

us think about topics that need to be addressed. And then there's teams that

are giving immediate feedback for clarity. (Listening to feedback from Rod.)

And then when it comes to the technical

side of things, there are staff and many volunteers who run all the tech required

to record Sunday mornings. These are the people who make it possible for us to

share the teaching with our regional sites and beyond.

I am constantly hearing from people who are tracking with The Meeting House

teaching from all around the world— as individuals, families, small groups, home

churches, and even Sunday services. Together as The Meeting House we are

making it possible for people everywhere to hear about the good news message of

Jesus. Whether it be for the first time, or the hundredth time. When you give to

the general fund, you join a team of staff and volunteers to help make this

happen. Your giving makes teaching happen,

evangelism happen, and you're giving supports discipleship both here and

around the world.

ProForm Fitness Tips: Why Should I Strength Train? - Duration: 1:45.

Hi, I'm Carissa, your personal trainer from Proform. Strength training is key to

transforming the look of your body. There are many benefits of strength training,

especially in women and older adults. Here are my tips for strength training: First,

pick your equipment. There are benefits to dumbbells, resistance bands, and

kettlebells for at home fitness. I like a simple set of dumbbells because of the

variety of exercises you can do with them. Resistance bands are great too

because they're compact, work for multiple people, and can add resistance

to a variety of upper and lower body exercise. Next, you'll want to find the

right weights and reps. You should feel close to exhaustion at about 12 to 15

reps, if you can do more then increase the weight or take slack off the resistance

tube for the next step. Use proper form and don't rush. Slow and controlled reps

are best. Exercise all major muscle groups. Key muscle groups to work out are the

quads, glutes, hamstrings, back, chest, shoulders, biceps, triceps, and abs. Body

weight exercises like squats lunges, walking lunges, lateral arm raises,

push-ups, and planks are a great place to start for resistance. Keeping proper form

when you start strength training is crucial too. I recommend doing any

exercise without weight for the first two weeks to get your body used to the

movement and practice good form. Start today, combining stretching, strength

training, and cardio into a calorie blasting workout. You'll be amazed at

how quickly you start to see results
