'Kanye West hasn't been photographed publicly since February 2017, and in May 2017 he scrubbed
his Instagram and Twitter profiles completely clean.
A report suggested that the 39-year-old rapper is holed up in a moment retreat in Wyoming
to "find inspiration."
But is there more to the story than that?
Here are some reasons we haven't been hearing about Yeezy over the last few months.
Breaking down
West was hospitalized on Nov. 21, 2016 for a "psychiatric emergency."
The exact reasons for his breakdown were numerous and varied: some claimed he went off of his
medication for bipolar disorder, while others claimed the anniversary of his mother's death,
combined with the stresses of his schedule and of wife Kim Kardashian's harrowing robbery
at gunpoint in October 2016 drove him to a nervous breakdown.
But because Kanye is Kanye, there's another theory that may be true.
A source told People, "He feels like he's under spiritual attack, and has been for a
while.
It's not just the big things; it's smaller, quieter things, internal things.
You might think that it's about Kim's robbery, and while that didn't help, that's not what's
going on here.
He's dealing with a lot more subtle issues…
He's just so tired now; he's very low energy and feels like there's a grieving in his spirit.
It's very hard to explain, but something has happened recently, where he's not the 'Ye
that everyone knows."
Considering how much he's thought of his spirit in the past …
"I am the number one most impactful artist of our generation!
I am Shakespeare in the flesh!"
Experiencing so many setbacks at once could be very difficult to endure.
The healing process for mental unwellness can be long and trying, so chances are, he's
avoiding the pressures of fame in hopes of avoiding a relapse.
Safety concerns
Another reason Kanye might be more camera shy than usual lately is that he has concerns
about his family's safety after his wife's notorious robbery.
According to some sources, though, his level of concern about the issue may have risen
to the point of paranoia.
One source told Radar Online, "He's not right in the head and he's under the delusion that
he's a target.
He has nightmares of being hit by bullets — he wears the bulky [bulletproof] gear
even when it's just out for dinner!"
That certainly matches the spiritual target explanation as to why he's been so bummed
out lately, and Kanye has worn bulky clothes while out and about after the incident.
Marital repair
West's marriage to Kardashian, 36, reportedly suffered as a result of her robbery and his
breakdown, and the pair are still working to repair it out of the public eye.
A source told People, "They went through a really rough time there for a while.
It was really touch and go.
She was dealing with the robbery and all that came after, and she felt like he wasn't there
for her.
He was going through his issues around the holidays, and he felt like she wasn't prioritizing
him.
Things were just awful between the two of them…
It's like the two of them were dangling on a rope off a cliff, and they used every single
thing they had to find solid ground.
They clawed their way back to somewhere a lot more healthy, and they're still clawing
their way back.
There are good days and there are bad days."
Although Kanye is absent from social media, Kim's still been active on her feeds and showing
off snaps with Kanye, so they must be on the mend.
Family focus
In addition to making his marriage work, West has also reportedly been spending some time
with his children, North and Saint.
A source told People, "They both feel like they are better people and that it has changed
their family for the better.
They don't have any desire to go back to how things were … Kanye is around much more
and helps out with the kids.
They're enjoying date nights.
It's much more of a normal life.
They realized that they don't need crazy work schedules to be happy."
That may be part of reason Kanye shuttered his social media feeds as well.
Per Us Weekly, he found that using the networks was damaging to his productivity and mental
wellness.
A source said, "It wasn't a healthy outlet for him.
He's in a different place now … [West] is trying to focus on stuff that matters."
Considering that West has previously had Twitter beefs with everyone from ex-girlfriend Amber
Rose to Jimmy Kimmel, it's probably a wise move for him to avoid the medium altogether.
Busy work
TMZ reported in May 2017 that West was holed up to work on his upcoming record in Wyoming
— and that he'd actually been there multiple times for a week or more at a time.
That would certainly explain the strangely humble settings the family took all those
photos from earlier this year.
In addition to working on the followup to 2016's The Life Of Pablo, West is juggling
quite a few projects in terms of designing.
In April 2017, West and Kardashian's first jewelry line hit the shelves, and they quickly
launched a kids' clothing line the next month.
West is also reportedly ready to launch a cosmetics line, named Donda after his late
mother.
All of these projects add to West's already busy production schedule, including his Yeezy
clothing and sneaker line.
Maintaining his status as a multi-hyphenate mogul takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work.
So, between all of his business obligations and keeping himself and his family healthy
and happy, it's no wonder Kanye's been absent from the public eye in recent months.
