You know ever since Metroid Prime 4 was revealed some really interesting banter was roaming about.
To what the title will be about and how it will play. Granted we didn't really see much in the trailer to infer things specifically,
but there is one thing we can talk about in the footage given.
And it has something to do with Samus's past.
Within Metroid's expanded universe the story of Samus Aran is a bit grim. To losing her parents at a young age during a brutal attack,
and living an abnormal life. However a little known detail is that Samus may have not lost her entire family when she was young.
In the Blood of the Chozo story, it tells that Samus had a younger brother by the name of Solomon Aran.
Who went missing and was later presumed dead.
Later as the story would have it, would follow Samus's exploits in being raised by the Chozo. And later following her career as a bounty hunter.
Now this is where we come full circle back to Metroid Prime 4. Now according to Prime Producer Kensuke Tanabe
along with other sources, wished for a title that pushed a dynamic between both Samus and Sylux.
To bring up to speed to those who aren't familiar, during the events of Metroid Prime Hunters Samus encounters various bounty hunters.
One of them being Sylux. Now in the title he doesn't really play too big of a role, in fact he barely has any character within this entry.
But for some reason Kensuke Tanabe wants to flesh him out as a character, now why is that?
Later in the Prime trilogy Sylux's ship, the Delano 7 is seen chasing Samus's ship
And later during Federation Force, a figure presumably Sylux stole a Metroid hatchling.
Now what is Sylux's motive in all this? At the end of Prime 3 Sylux went after Samus almost as if he has a personal motive behind it.
In fact it seems as though wherever Samus goes, Sylux is not too far behind.
And considering Kensuke Tanabe's past statements. I think fair conjecture would point towards a Samus and Sylux confrontation in Prime 4.
Now Sylux's true motives in chasing down Samus may be something reserved for Prime 4, so we don't have much information about it. However we can
still analyze Sylux's background. Unfortunately there isn't much of it, in fact we had to use information from Smash Bros
from all places. But luckily for us the information adds up and isn't contradictory.
For one Sylux's gear, such as his armor along with his weaponry is largely Federation in origin. Even his ship is also stolen from the said organization.
So what does that tell us? Well if anything it shows that he is highly resourceful, but it also says he has deep resentment towards the Federation.
A resentment that must of stemmed from something he experienced. Going back to the time where Samus encountered Sylux in Prime Hunters,
they first met in Vesper Defense Outpost. According to lore the station is used as a refueling and munitions dump. But what is interesting is the name behind the station, "Vesper."
In Greek mythology Hesperus or the Roman equivalent Vesper, alludes to the evening star. Or the evening in general. Now in the same mythos, Vesper has
a brother or a half-brother by the name of Phosphorus, which alludes to the morning star. Now notice the contrast here between night and day.
So how does this tie into everything else? Well this is where it gets interesting. Now if we compare and contrast Sylux and Samus starting
with their names some similarities can come about. For one they each have five letters in their names and both begin with the letter S.
The name Samus of course references the bounty hunter. But the name Sylux comes to special importance. So let's break it down to the phrases "sy" and "lux."
Now the word "lux" refers to a unit of illumination equal to the direct illumination. In brief the word lux refers to units known as lumens, which then refers to light itself.
Combine this with the word "sy" which is a suffix that forms nouns or adjectives, to mock or disapprove the later phrase. What you get in the name "Sylux"
is essentially "Mocking the Light." Which fits Sylux as a character well, as he harbors resentment against the federation.
While at the same time using their equipment, almost as if he is mocking their light, or in this case technology.
And going back to where Samus and Sylux first met in Vesper station. Which alludes to both Vesper and Phosphorus, the evening star and the morning star.
Night and Day, Dark and Light. And considering how we pointed out that the name Sylux may mean mocking the light,
who first appeared in Vesper station which alludes to the evening star. So what does that make Samus in contrast?
Well to answer that let's take a look in Metroid Prime 1. Within Chozo Lore an interesting prophecy is made, known as the Prophecy of Light. Which reads.
"Throughout our living nightmare, as we battle with this unyielding darkness, we chozo see a light. This light glows with promise, chasing the shadows cast by the Great Poison
and purifying that which has grown toxic. It is strange, though - at times it looks to our eyes as if the light coalesces into the figure of a woman.
Burning brightly, the luminescence descends from space then retreats back into the infinite blackness from whence it came. When this prophecy comes to pass,
when the light recedes, the Chozo long vigilance of containment will finally come to an end."
So in other words, the Light is symbolized as Samus herself. And going back to Sylux,
whose name means mocking of the light. And along with the many mythological references. What does this all mean?
Well I believe that there is an unknown connection between both Sylux and Samus, but to explore this further let's take a look at the Prime 4 trailer.
In it you see what appears to be blue gas forming into the screw attacks symbol. Now this S symbol also means other things besides that,
for one it's on labels to many games. But it also references Samus herself, think of it as a character logo of her.
But notice that it is blue in color. Now what other things in the Metroid universe abide by that color, well for one phazon is. But ever since Prime 3
happened, Phazon is not longer a thing in the Metroid universe. So what else? Well this may allude to Sylux, who also abides by that color,
And again considering Kensuke Tanabe past comments along with him chasing Samus at the end of Prime 3, this could make sense.
But there is one more thing to consider. Sylux's symbol, or more accurately his weapon insignia is known as the shock coil. And it has a fairly unique shape.
Not only is it blue in color, but it appears as though it is a mirrored Screw Attack symbol, Samus's symbol. So what does this all mean, from all the points
we made so far in the video. To the greek mythos that points Sylux and Samus to be two sides of the same coin, in addition to their symbols.
Remember at the beginning of this video, where in the Blood of the Chozo story, alludes that Samus's brother
went missing and was later presumed dead. Now what if Solomon Aran, Samus's brother is actually Sylux.
If that is the case, then all of this symbolism between Sylux and Samus being mirror images of each other can make sense. Since they would be
literally two sides of the same coin. But to add another point of reference to support this notion, we go to Sylux's ship which is named the Delano 7.
Now the name Delano comes from a French surname, indicating that the bearer was from a place known as La Noue. Which is Gaulish, meaning "wetland or swamp."
And if Sylux is Solomon, then he like Samus would be from K-2L their homeworld. And the same planet holds a
wetland and swampy environment. The same area if Sylux is Solomon is where he supposedly died.
But if Sylux is Solomon what else does that tell us? Why does he bear resentment towards the federation and presumably Samus. Well I am honestly not sure,
if he is Solomon then allot of time must of passed until he finally donned the mantel of Sylux. Perhaps something personal happened to him to turn out this way.
After all if he was presumed dead, then he would have essentially been all by himself. To survive by his own means and no one else's.
Perhaps he held resentment towards the federation as a government body, that in his eyes failed to protect his family or perhaps something else.
But the thought of Sylux being Solomon, Samus's lost kin is infinitely interesting to me. Imagine if Metroid Prime 4
used this as its narrative to tell a more personal side of Samus and her past, in other words Other M done right.
And if this scenario is the case, imagine exploring the planet K-2L as the foundation. To explore Samus's homeworld,
where her family died. And use that to flesh out the confrontation between Sylux and herself.
And considering how Kensuke Tanabe wants to flesh out a confrontation between the two in the past. Perhaps using this dynamic of
Samus confronting her lost kin, Solomon will be the way he wants to take the story.
But what do you guys think? Is Solomon Aran, Samus's lost brother Sylux? And is this the reason why he has such an attachment towards her,
to following her around in space. And does the symbolism between the two indicate this? And is this the story we will see in Metroid Prime 4?
But to be devil's advocate for a moment here. There are flaws in this theory, the biggest one being the reliability of the Blood of the Chozo story.
Since it was discontinued with some of its plot points being altered as time went on. Strangely though the character
Solomon Aran was never touched upon again since. What does this mean I am not sure.
But I enjoyed making this theory nonetheless, special thanks goes to our Patreon Producers for helping make this video possible.
So wow, I think this is my first Metroid theory. Did you like it, should I make more? Comment below. So what is next for the channel? Well I have been meaning
to make a theory about the Gerudo in Zelda, mainly why they are a all female tribe. So I will be tackling that this thursday, see you then for that.
Well then, this video was certainly a mouthful. Well guys I have to be heading out now, have a great and wonderful rest of the day or night, and take care!
