Waching daily Jun 26 2017

2017 has already seen some great video game releases, with hits like The Legend of Zelda:

Breath of the Wild, Resident Evil 7, and Horizon: Zero Dawn grabbing the headlines.

But while the mainstream gaming media has been focused on picking apart every minor

flaw in Mass Effect: Andromeda, there have also been a ton of great smaller releases

that have slipped through the cracks, overshadowed by the big guns.

Until now.

Grab your controller and fire up your Twitch stream, because here's a look at the best

games you've already missed in 2017.

Night in the Woods

Infinite Fall's Night in the Woods is a deep and stylish meandering through the little

things in life, with a healthy dose of musing on the nature of God and the meaning of human

existence.

It also explores the boredom of working class America while presenting an engaging mystery

and allowing players to explore mini-games and side missions galore.

And the beautifully designed dream sequences, filled with fear, emptiness, and the search

for meaning, are not to be missed.

Clocking in at 10 awesome free-to-play hours, Night in the Woods is one game that shouldn't

be missed.

Statik

If you're looking for something a little different, welcome to Statik, a puzzle-solving virtual

reality experience in which you don't know where you are, who you're with, or why your

hands are locked inside increasingly difficult puzzle boxes.

The puzzles themselves strike just the right balance between trickiness and ease, while

the atmosphere in which you're tasked with solving them is downright creepy.

The first generation of virtual reality consoles have been criticized for not having enough

killer games to justify the cost, but innovative and fun experiences like Statik are quickly

changing that notion.

Try it and see for yourself!

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap

Available for Switch and the PS4, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is a perfect example of

how to make a 30-year-old game great in 2017.

A remake of a 1989 game, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap has been revamped with a beautiful and

cartoony art style, while retaining the original platformer's story and mechanics.

As a bonus, players can even choose to play the original version instead if they want,

which is pretty much the ultimate in retro gaming.

The Sexy Brutale

Cursed to remain trapped in a never-ending masquerade ball, players in The Sexy Brutale

have to try to prevent a series of murders which take place on a continual, time-bending

loop.

To solve the mystery, players must master the essence of the game's time-looping mechanic,

in addition to flexing their investigative muscles in ways the classic board game Clue

could only dream about.

The Sexy Brutale isn't very long, but after you've solved the last murder, you'll be left

itching for more.

Hidden Folks

Take one look at this game's artistic style and it's impossible not to be intrigued.

Combining classic Where's Waldo style hunting fun with gorgeous, hand-drawn visuals in a

one-of-a-kind gameplay experience, Hidden Folks is perfect for mobile phones while also

being right at home on PC and Mac.

The daydreamy landscapes are teeming with activity, but as the title implies, much of

it is hidden, inviting you to explore the game to discover its many secrets.

Be warned, though: once you start playing, it's nearly impossible to stop, so don't boot

up Hidden Folks unless you have a lot of free time available.

You're going to need it.

TypeShift

If you're sick of word jumbles, crosswords, or sudoku, don't worry.

You just found your new daily obsession in the form of TypeShift, which gives you columns

of letters you have to arrange into words until you've used up all of the letters available,

like a cross between Boggle and Tetris.

It's simple, but deceptively difficult.

Can you spell "addictive?"

Once you start playing Typeshift, you'll never have to make eye contact with other people

on the bus ever again!

Candleman

With a unique combination of art direction and gameplay, Candleman has already made a

name for itself as an innovative indie title every curious gamer should try out.

You play a candleman, who can only stay lit for 10 seconds on his quest for a distant

light.

The game's mechanics and story play with the contrast between darkness and illumination,

using the interaction to traverse a range of obstacles and environments.

Candleman is one of those little games that sometimes gets overshadowed by bigger, louder,

more in your face titles.

But this is one game that refuses to hide its light under a bushel.

Fire up Candleman and let your gaming light shine!

Hollow Knight

If you ever wondered what Dark Souls would look like if it were done Metroid style, then

Hollow Knight is the game for you.

With incredible hand drawn graphics, breathtaking music, and innovative sound effects, Hollow

Knight provides hours of entertainment as you explore an environment filled with puzzles,

secret areas, and over 30 tough boss battles.

For fans of side-scrolling adventure, it just doesn't get any more stylish - or fun - than

Hollow Knight.

Plus, there are already whole communities devoted to figuring out the game's rich and

mysterious lore.

So what are you waiting for?

Get out there and do… whatever it is you're doing.

She Remembered Caterpillars

Featuring a hand-drawn art style reminiscent of a children's book created under the influence

of psychedelic mushrooms, this color based puzzle game investigates the bond between

parent and child in unexpected and strange ways.

A mind-bending experience with a touch of creepiness and more than a heap of weirdness,

She Remembered Caterpillars is worth checking out for anyone who is looking for something

a little different.

Detention

Set in 1960s Taiwan, Detention incorporates elements of Taiwanese and Chinese culture

and mythology into a disturbing experience that PC Gamer said is, quote, "the closest

a game has come to capturing the essence of the original Silent Hill games in years."

For most gamers, that should be about all you need to know to give this one a shot.

But be warned: just like Silent Hill, Detention is a creepy, and sometimes downright terrifying

game that will haunt you long after you finally set down the controller.

You know what they say: In Taiwan, the game finishes you.

Splitter Critters

There's nothing quite as exciting as a game that re-imagines gameplay itself.

Splitter Critters does just that.

The premise is simple: you're trying to help critters find the exit to the level.

But you don't actually control the critters.

Instead, with a swipe of your finger you can tear the screen apart and then reposition

the pieces to form a new level layout.

And since different types of critters have different movement patterns, figuring out

the best way to play god requires a lot of strategy.

Good luck.

Because those critters are counting on you.

Blaster Master Zero

Taking players on a retro-trip to the golden days of the Nintendo Entertainment System,

Blaster Master Zero is an 8-bit side-scrolling and top-down action-adventure game.

Reinventing the classic 1988 title Blaster Master, this new edition keeps all the fun

of the original while updating gameplay with three decades worth of innovation, making

for a familiar yet fresh gameplay experience that makes us giddy with nostalgic bliss.

Torment: Tides of Numenera

Most RPGs these days are heavy on the combat and light on the narrative.

Torment: Tides of Numenera goes the other way, emphasizing story over collecting loot,

resulting in a game that's closer to an interactive fantasy novel than just another hack and slash

orc massacre.

For old school RPG enthusiasts who love nearly infinite dialogue trees, or for fans of the

classic Choose Your Own Adventure novels, Tides of Numenera is the game you've been

waiting for.

Robo Recall

Afraid of an artificial-intelligence-filled future?

Want to kill every robot you see?

Oculus Rift owners, rejoice, because Robo Recall is just the robot-slaying, first-person,

virtual-reality experience you've been looking for.

One of the first games to really show the potential of the Oculus Touch controllers,

Robo Recall features optimized game play to compliment beautiful art direction in one

of the best shooting galleries ever devised.

So give it a shot… no pun intended.

Tales of Berseria

Out in Japan since August of 2016, the acclaimed RPG Tales of Berseria finally came westward

in 2017.

Despite praise from fans and critics alike, though, Tales of Berseria has been heavily

overshadowed by more hyped, triple-A games.

Don't let that fool you, though.

With an unusually dark and mature storyline, and some truly memorable characters, Tales

of Berseria features over 50 hours of engrossing gameplay.

Plus, it allows you to experience firsthand what it might be like to live inside an anime

world.

If there's one thing Japan knows how to do, it's create incredible RPG adventures, so

if you're a fan of the genre, or simply want to find out what all the fuss is about, give

Tales of Berseria a try.

You won't regret it.

Bleed 2

There seems to be no shortage of retro-inspired pixel-art games these days, but don't dismiss

Bleed 2 as just another Contra clone.

With buttery smooth controls, charming pixelated animation, and boss battles that are truly

epic, Bleed 2 manages to be accessible to everyone while still rewarding those who wish

to dive deeper into its intricacies.

It's also more forgiving than most Contra-inspired games, particularly on lower difficulty levels,

and can be completed in roughly two hours, so you really have no excuse not to give this

one a shot.

Pinball FX2: Star Wars Pinball - Rogue One

Pinball fans will enjoy this game.

Fans of Star Wars: Rogue One will enjoy this game.

Heck, everyone who enjoys fun will like Star Wars Pinball: Rogue One.

It features tight mechanics, silky smooth gameplay, and fantastic physics—with sound

effects and movie quotes galore.

Even casual fans of the film will appreciate the level of detail and creativity that has

gone into this table, whether it be the black Deathtrooper firing lasers all over the place

during a multiball, or Jyn giving the smackdown to a stormtrooper.

So are you a pinball wizard - or a pinball Jedi?

Put your virtual quarter in and find out.

Thimbleweed Park

If you like your adventures to be of the point-and-click variety, look no further than the surefire

under-the-radar hit Thimbleweed Park.

It's not just a point-and-click adventure game, mind you.

According to Polygon developer Whitney Reynolds, it's actually "a point-and-click adventure

game about point-and-click adventure games," with meta references to spiritual predecessors

like Maniac Mansion.

Fans of the genre would have to be true maniacs to not give this one a go.

Just don't play it if you're easily offended.

Art & Craft Supply Haul Annie Thyme Creates - Duration: 15:45.

hi Annie here and today I have a collective craft haul. It's bits and pieces

I bought since the last one I guess and a camera when that was in the fall with

her early winter I can't remember anyway I've got the bits and pieces I bought

since then if you're interested in that type of thing

keep watching if not all see you next week but let's get started so this is

probably one of the things I bought the farthest back and that was off to second

my paint brushes they're all on this part here but it is a paint set from

royal and langnickel now it came with this it's kind of a flimsy plastic trays

on the one side but I'm not going to try to take it out because I feel like I'm

going to crack it getting back in again it came with six paints into there

watercolors a paintbrush a pencil and eraser and a sharpener I haven't used

the pencil the brush that came with it the eraser or the sharpener but I have

used the paint they're pretty old but they're I really actually quite like

them there's certainly not like professional-grade this is this is

definitely the essentials line for royal and langnickel I think if I knew now

what I known when I was buying this I probably wouldn't have picked this set

up but this was kind of like the first thing I was starting to buy after

getting into watercolor I had my old set from when I was child but that wasn't

quite cutting it that was missing a lot of colors I picked this up yeah like I

said as you can see I've been using the green a bit more recently but yeah it

was it was okay it was I've got this at home cents for $5.99 so I certainly

didn't pay a huge amount for it and I did come with a little thing of

watercolor paper as well I haven't used this paper yet it's very very thin so I

think I definitely have to tape it to have it not buckle because I have been

using quite a lot of water on the paper when I think so but I am looking forward

not to using I'm not looking for but I'm going to use that it's not something

that's just going to go to waste but I did primarily buy it for the painting

for the paint now the other thing that was in there that I've also purchased

more recently I believe anyway is paint brushes and these were artist's loft for

Michaels now again with if I knew now what I knew then these probably wouldn't

need the paint brushes I would pick up they were a good price

they've the ones I've used I shed a little a fair bit I have to start anyway

they don't wash super easy without splaying which is been a bit annoying

but I think again for a starting set and even just see if I was going to continue

on and used watercolors that was great because I had three brushes before again

from childhood and they were these two and then a big one if you remember like

it basically for like preschool it's very two-second like something's fallen

off the bed here basically from preschool those big square brushes it

was one of those so you know two tiny ones this this one's very stiff this one

stiff but also kind of splayed from youth so I wanted to try some new ones

and these certainly kind of fit the budget for trying to see if it was

something I was going to continue on and enjoy doing which it is and that's also

why you're going to see some more watercolor stuff in this video as go

forward but actually in that same time that I bought those other two things I

also picked up this watercolor paper again this watercolor paper is not what

I would recommend at least in Canada in the state it apparently is much cheaper

and I didn't realize that at the time when I purchased this it looked very

similar in price to the raph more like hires not hire hi series

but this 300 and 400 series and so I thought this was just like a different

option and it was like a dollar cheaper and I was because there was like a sale

on something and it just worked out that I thought that this was a better deal

that date because overall the kind of starting price was very very similar

across the board that is not the case this in other places is much much less

expensive that's that's great it's great if you can't get a lot of lists if you

do watercolors you'll know what I'm talking about you can't lift the color

off it's hard once it's on doesn't tolerate being super wet great but again

I'm going to use this for certain paintings I'm doing I did have some

Strathmore 404 before so I'm going to continue using that until it goes away

and I'll use this for some projects where I know I'm not going to be lifting

anything or doing that it was disappointing to learn that the prices

were kind of misleading at the start but again we have added a lot in Canada is

just sometimes lower price items end up looking like medium priced items somehow

they end up being the same prices the medium the medium level and it can

sometimes be a bit frustrating to go buy that was yep that was my fault though I

hadn't as a research before purchasing the next thing I have here I purchased

from Amazon and they are Sargent art oil pastel it's 25 set of 25 colored pastels

they're kind of quite small as you can see but they're like a normal size I

believe for a watercolour and I have been I've used them a couple times I

think actually in one of the books I have here I have a sample Yap this was

the color chart thing I made out the white here that you can see that's kind

of orange strip in the middle enough to have like a little

like of orange on my finger when I was going through and doing that I was quite

happy with how they blended out and all that

I did have get some cross-contamination there when in the colors a couple places

but overall that was the test to see how they blend it out and they worked and

I've never really used oil pastels you know appropriately or properly before so

I'm trying to learn more there and see how it goes but I think these ones I've

been really happy with how they've worked out that way for me so the next

thing I have here is a group of sequins and these have 9 different colors and

they were from Michael's I believe they were around 399 for all of them I got

things because I was working on something specific either December or

January and I ended up not adding the sequins to what I thought I was going to

use them for I use these instead and I also picked up these when I was

sequin shopping at the time because I found them for 89 cents at one still

store and that's us we had one of those kind of not super far not super close

but not super far and I got this kind of like focal essence color and then also

in Asia and they were also 89 cents and so I'm pretty happy with those again I

picked these ones up not knowing that they weren't right for what I was doing

at the time but for the price I thought it would save me going out and looking

for another one later on so oh let's see here I've got some earring like hooks

fishhook type gearing styles I was doing a little bit more beading at the

beginning of the year and I wanted to make some earrings I still plan to I

just haven't ended up making them so far these lizard of the cheaper ones from

Walmart again I never made likes earrings before that use the

fasteners in bracelets and stuff like that but I never used the earrings and

sometimes it can be kind of tricky to get them to like attached to hooks and

stuff again I wanted to see if I could get stuff to attach where it would stay

on and not like and funny and look right before I paid for a more expensive hook

which I would if I was ever going to be making stuff to give away or do more

with I would probably always get the silver ones but for practice those

seemed like a good way to go oh and at the same time as I got those but for

Michael I picked up this little red ink pad this isn't that those bins at the

front where they have this kind of thing I used this on a birthday card I was

making along with some blue ink they work out really good and for I think

they're around a dollar fifty and if you've got a coupon or whatever they're

even more off so I do like do like that and sorry I'm sitting in a CE and tried

to pick out what I haven't actually shown you already um before and this

that I have here is a disposable fountain pen I pick and this was these

ones they're okay I don't like them as much as the ones that come in the five

pack which I'm all out of otherwise I'd show you that I got rid of my last one a

while ago I think they were pilot ones I'll see you again if I can find them

but they they weren't available at the time that I ordered these I have since

seen them on Amazon fountain pen and disposable fountain pens can be really

hard to find here in Canada Valentine's are but you can find fountain pens use

more easy than you can find the disposable ones are the ones just put

the cartridges inside so I really like writing with them

so I picked up these when I saw them and I have noticed so that amazon.ca is

stocking tons more pens and stuff that we just haven't had like easily

accessible in ages so that's been a really nice

things and here I've got some and this is what I was talking about when I said

I had some other stuff later on these are the Derwent 24 watercolor pencils

and I was really excited to find these again I picked these up on amazon.ca

they were I don't know what it was a one-day discount because I've been kind

of stalking a bunch of craft supplies and then these all of a sudden showed up

drastically cheaper so I picked them up right away but since then I haven't seen

them for that low I haven't opened them yet because I haven't been sitting up

very much to work on anything but I'm really looking forward to trying these

these ended up being about the same price as it would have been like a

couple dollars more but overall kind of the same price as the reeds or the royal

and langnickel would be and yet these are you know normally much more kind of

expensive brand and definitely a higher quality which I was really looking at

potentially getting the royal in local or the reef to try but when we came up

for kind of in the same price range I thought oh I try that as dead having

said all that I also did get a reef watercolor tip these were also on much

cheaper than what they are now and it had some colors in it that I do not have

in the roll angle set or people that I had from when I was a kid and I found

that sometimes you just I just was running into trouble because I was you

know I didn't have like the the yellow like I have lemon but not okra or the

same with the greens like I'd have one or the other and a lot of things so this

has like two different types of blooms like these two different types of like

actually three different types of kind of ready colors but has got an orange or

red and then like a brownie red and stuff like that so I was actually saying

that it's got lists colors right here session have been you know difficult to

get out but yeah it's got the Prussian booth blue and ultramarine and

like that so that should make it a little bit easier and again I know this

isn't like artist quality necessarily but for right now I'm just trying to see

how much I enjoy doing it and these seem to be a decent set that I can definitely

you know use and get something out of and finally I have a giant ball of

crochet thread I don't have to label anymore but this I believe is the bernat

one and it's the the bigger the bigger type of roll that you can get there's my

hand for size example Eric so here's the pen case like it's a really big ball of

yarn and full crochet thread and I got this because I've been working doing

something in a red crochet thread and I decided I wanted to put an accent on it

and again this I've been enjoying using the thinner thread for some things and

for some times and just doing stuff different with to give my hands a break

or you know just to keep it interesting and so I did pick up the big one of

these because price-wise it made more sense when I do plan on doing more in

the future so that is all the craft supplies I have picked up in the last

since the last one at least I hope it is I mean it's enough really I know it's

not a huge amount but it is enough I guess the only other thing I picked up

was I did get a few more balls of the big red heart yard they came back into

my Walmart locally and I did pick up a few more blue cream and I think the

light tan because I was I thought then I'd have a bit more for bigger projects

but so that's pretty much all I've had and I hope you are having a great day

and let me know below what your favorite recent craft searches have been or what

crafts you're enjoying doing at the moment I'd love to hear on Instagram I
