Waching daily Jun 6 2017

Welcome to my big day!

[Squeaks squeaks]

Aw, you're right, Squeaks, it's not my birthday…

But it is the day that I take the bandage off of my elbow!

I was riding my bike the other day, and I had a little spill.

Luckily, I wasn't hurt too badly, but I did get a big cut on my elbow.

So I cleaned out the cut with warm water and soap, and put on a bandage.

But check it out!

It's only a week later, and the cut's basically gone!

That's because my body—and yours—has a way to to make cuts and scrapes get all

better, or heal.

Even the ones that bleed.

Blood travels through your body in what are called blood vessels.

They're kind of like straws or tubes.

Most blood vessels are long and flexible, which means they're able to bend.

There are lots of really tiny blood vessels right under your skin.

They can be thinner than a single hair!

When you get a cut that bleeds, you end up with a hole in your skin that's deep enough

to break some of those tiny blood vessels.

It doesn't take long for your body to figure out that something's wrong, and it starts

to do something to stop the bleeding right away!

Even though blood looks like it's just one liquid, there are actually a few different

ingredients in it.

Like platelets, which look like little blobs.

They're way too small for you to see, but there are lots of platelets in your blood,

and they start to fill up the hole your cut made in the blood vessel.

They act like a plug to stop any more blood from getting out.

Your blood also makes a bunch of stringy fibers, which form a kind of a net, or web.

The platelets stick to this web, and to each other, making a lump that completely covers

the cut.

After a while, the lump dries out and gets hard.

We call this brown, hard lump of platelets and fibers a scab.

[Squeaks squeaks thoughtfully]

That's true!

A scab is a little like a bandage that the body can grow all by itself!

Under the scab, your body is hard at work, killing any germs that might have gotten inside

of your body before the platelets plugged up the cut.

Your body also fixes the holes in the blood vessels so that no more blood can leak out,

and it starts to close the cut with new skin.

As the new skin grows over the cut, the scab starts to get loose.

Once enough of the hole is closed, the scab falls off, and you're as good as new!

Now, for the tough part.

Even though it can be hard to do sometimes, leave your scabs alone!

Don't pick at them, pull them off, or even scratch them.

Because the scab has an important job: it keeps germs that are outside of your body

from getting inside of your body.

If germs get inside of your body, they can cause an infection, which can make the cut

hurt much worse.

And if you pull a scab off, you might rip the skin that's growing over the cut, and

your body would basically have to start all over again.

After stopping the bleeding, making a scab, and growing new skin, it looks like my body's

all done fixing the cut I got.

Hey, Squeaks, wanna go for a bike ride?

The Most Terrible Things Luigi Has Ever Done - Duration: 5:13.

You probably know Luigi as the most famous sidekick in gaming history.

A second fiddle.

The guy who's always destined to be Player 2.

Luigi spends so much time in his older brother's shadow, it's easy to forget that he's a fully

fledged character on his own.

And, depending on the media he's appearing in, not a particularly nice one.

Here's a look at the most terrible things Luigi has ever done.

Just in it for the cash

In 1986, Nintendo and Grouper Studios released an hour-long anime produced to promote the

Japanese release of Super Mario Bros. 2, later known to American gamers as The Lost Levels.

While the movie is a reasonably faithful adaptation of the first couple Mario games, there's one

big difference: in the film, Luigi is the absolute worst, and we're not just talking

about his bizarrely mis-colored costume.

While Mario's motives are noble, Luigi only agrees to join him on the quest after being

promised all the gold coins they find on the adventure.

As a result, he spends the whole cartoon greedily searching for gold, even at the risk of his

friends' lives.

This version of Luigi isn't just greedy, either.

While tripping on mushrooms, he punches Mario in the face.

And when the group runs low on food, Luigi even thinks about eating Kibidango, the Mario

Bros.' dog-like companion.

Yikes, dude.

Mad with power

Over in Germany, gamers were treated to Club Nintendo, a magazine filled with absolutely

insane comic strips.

One of the most jarring is Super Mario: In the Flush of Speed, where Luigi becomes a

cop and uses his newfound authority to make Mario's life a living hell.

First, he pulls Mario over for going too fast — apparently, when he's riding Yoshi down

the city streets, Mario needs to obey all the regular traffic laws.

Next, Luigi scolds Mario for referring to him as Luigi and not "Officer Luigi," as befits

his new position.

Finally, when Mario hops off Yoshi's back by spin-jumping — which, let's remember,

is the only way to dismount the dinosaur in Super Mario World — Luigi informs his brother

that spin-jumps are strictly prohibited between 1 and 3 p.m.

And while Luigi's a stickler for the rules, he's not corrupt: he fines Mario — his own

brother — 60 coins for his transgressions.

That's right: family means nothing in Officer Luigi's totalitarian dystopia.

All talk

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Luigi is revealed to be a lying blowhard, as it

turns out all the supposed adventures he boasts about throughout the game are complete fiction.

For example , Luigi says that, in order to defeat a monster, Luigi threw the squid-like

Blooper named Blooey at the boss' weak spot.

According to Blooey, that's true, but Luigi conveniently leaves out the part where he

missed, sending Blooey flying into a puddle of lava.

Even worse, the general public actually buys his propaganda, as books based on Luigi's

adventures begin appearing in the game.

Though, given how little credit he gets for his real adventures, it's hard to blame him.

Totally uninhibited

In Super Paper Mario, Luigi isn't just comedic relief — he's also the game's main villain.

According to the Dark Prognosticus, a book of prophecies written by an unknown author,

the "man in green" is the perfect host for the Chaos Heart, which will destroy the world.

That man in green is, of course, Luigi.

After being captured by the master hypnotist Nastasia, Luigi's inhibitions are released

and he becomes the sinister Mr. L. Openly jealous of Mario's abilities, Mr. L teams

up with a new robot buddy and spends the game attacking Mario.

He even makes a move on Princess Peach!

And that's even before the mercenary Dimentio fuses with Luigi and tries to bring about

the end of the world using the Chaos Heart.

So was it all mind control?

Or did the bad guys just unleash Luigi's true feelings?

All we can say for sure is: watch your back, Mario.

Fraternal abuse

Most of the time, Luigi's love-hate relationship with his brother ends up coming across as

passive-aggressive.

But in Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, there's nothing passive about it.

Early in the game, both brothers get hammers, which they can use in combat and to solve

puzzles.

While Mario uses his hammer in reasonable ways, like destroying obstacles that block

his path, Luigi uses his to beat on his older brother.

Pummeling Mario is the only way to proceed in the game, but you better believe it hurts.

One of the main reasons to use Luigi's hammer is to transform Mario into Mini-Mario — y'know,

the form Mario takes when he's damaged by an enemy, leaving him unable to break bricks

and teetering on the brink of death.

But hey, it also allows Mario to pass through small passages, so why not gamble with your

brother's life?

Looks like Luigi is working out some serious issues here.

Tellingly, Luigi doesn't even flinch when he learns he has to hit Mario on the head.

That's not a loving brother.

That's a cold-hearted menace.

Herbicides and Lymphoma | Roundup® | TX Product Liability Lawyers - Duration: 1:07.

The Dangers of Roundup®

Whether you realize it or not, your life has been affected by herbicides.

Herbicides have been used for decades to kill weeds, and they are used in our gardens, on

our foods, and in many other settings, such as vineyards.

While herbicides can provide several benefits to growers of crops, gardens, or lawns, they

can also cause severe health consequences.

The herbicide Roundup has long been popular among growers ranging from commercial enterprises

to landscapers.

It has also been linked to Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma ("NHL"), a type of blood cancer that includes

several types of lymphoma.

Recent reports indicate that the maker of this product has not only known about the

potential hazards to users, but they have sought to influence regulatory policies of

the federal government.

The attorneys at Terry Bryant Accident & Injury Law are meeting with anyone diagnosed with

Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma to determine if Roundup exposure could be the underlying cause.

If you or a loved one has been exposed to Roundup and suffer from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma,

books to read in june ll vedj 2017 - Duration: 5:49.

[snap, snap, snap, snap, clap]

Alright, so I'm gonna start off by saying: it is very warm in my house right now

It is like 92 degrees outside.

But today I thought I'd show you the things that I'm currently reading and what I'm hoping to read in the next couple of weeks.

Most of the books I read I get from the library, and since it's summer now I can get a lot more books at once

because I have more free time, and I'm very excited.

And there's quite a few... I have seven books to share with you guys, uh, I guess I'll just get started.

So, I'm gonna start with the books that I'm currently reading. The first one being Mischling by Affinity Konar. Coe-nar? Oh I'm gonna butcher that.

It's about the doctor who did experiments on twins throughout the Holocaust.

So, as you can imagine, it's a very heavy book. Um, I'm about this far in, if you can see that, so I'm about a third of the way through.

I stopped and put it down about three days ago because something happened in the book- and if you read it, you'll know what it is.

The way that it's written is-it's very well-written. It's very flow-it flows very well.

But it's such a hard and, like, heavy topic I just can't read more than 30-50 pages at a time.

I'm kind of stuck because I don't know if I wanna know where it's going.

I might make a follow-up video on this, like an actual review of it once I finish it. I haven't decided yet.

Um, my next one that I'm currently reading is Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig. Or Matt Hay-guh

Again, it's a very heavy book. It's about depression and his experiences with depression and anxiety.

It's written in a very easy to understand format and a lot of the chapters are just teeny tiny, a couple of pages.

Um, I would say it's really good. A lot of the things, for me, are very relatable and it makes me cry. A lot.

Again, this is a book where I can get through "x" amount of pages before I have to put it down because I'm just, like, feeling too much.

Cause I need to, kinda like, think about and process everything that I've read.

So, while it's really good and I recommend it, it definitely is heavy.

So, the next one is The Austere Academy by Lemony Snicket.

It is part of the Series of Unfortunate Events. It's the fifth one.

Recently restarted this series. I read it in elementary school-I actually had like a competition with a friend of mine on who could read all of the 'Series of Unfortunate Events' books first.

I can't remember who won.

And I started rereading the series around AP exam season because I alreasy knew the story.

Plus look at this font, like, this is huge! And it doesn't-and like there's such a wide margin everywhere. It's beautiful.

They're so quick and easy to read; I can sit down and read it for like an hour and half and be done.

There's a lot of stuff that I did not get as a younger kid, but now that I'm reading it again, I'm like "that's actually really funny." [laughs]

So. [awkward book flip thing]

My next one is another reread, um, it's The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros.

I read this in 8th grade for school.

I read a quote from it online recently, a few weeks ago maybe, and I put it on hold at the library.

I was like, "it's time to reread that" because now that I'm moving away from my family home to go to college,

like, I really think that I could gain something from a book told all about the life that a woman had in her childhood home.

And so I just thought that it'd be a great reread.

My next one, I'm a little bit late on the train, but it's Note to Self by Connor Franta.

Um, I'm very excited about this. I just got it in at the library.

I think this is gonna be a great summer read. There's so many images and I like the format of it.

Like, look at how beautiful this picture is. Can you imagine?

And there's pictures interspersed everywhere.

It's a memoir, but separate from memoirs because it's not all written in a , like, "this is my life story"

There's like poems and pictures and just little things interspersed and I'm very excited to read this. I can not wait.

This next one is Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys. [laughs]

Oh no, there's so many I don't know..

And this is a YA book about a girl who lives in New Orleans who really wants out of New Orleans but she get sucked into this murder mystery.

I think it'll be really interesting and I'm hoping it's, like, a very easy and like it'll suck you in and you're kind of like reading it.

Because in the summertime mainly what I do is I sit down for as long as I need to to finish a book completely.

Um, another great thing about this book is that it has those, like, jaggedy edges that are so fun and that I love.

[laughs] Alright, my very last one is Notes from the Internet Apocalypse by Wayne Gladstone.

I think this one is-will be super fun. Um, it's very, very short. It's only like 200 pages which is really nice.

Um, it's about basically what if the internet disappeared. Completely. But then someone who really needs the internet found out that there's one

person in New York that has the Internet and so they go off on a quest to find it with his friends. And I just think it will be very interesting.

I know that recently I've been thinking about, like, my relationship with technology and I think this is a great- like fiction is a great format to be discussing these kinds of things.

And I'm just very excited to read this one as well.

So, I'm gonna put links to all of the GoodReads pages down below. Um, none of them were sponsored.

I just really like reading and thought that it'd be cool to share with you what I'm hoping to finish and and the books I'm hoping to finish

so that you can kinda get a sense of the kind of stuff I read.

Um, I would love to hear if any of you have-if you guys have read any of the books that I mentioned or if you have any recommendations for me

that you're like "you should definitely read this." I would love to know; I'm always looking for new books to read.

As you can tell, I have a variety of book from the library sitting on my bedside table most of the time because I like to have a choice between

what I'm reading because how I'm feeling affects what I choose to read.

So, yeah, let me know down there if you have any book recommendations

I hope you're having a good day; hope it's not nearly as how at your house as it is in mine. Um, I'll see you tomorrow.
