9 Ways To Spot A Fake Guru Or Spiritual Teacher

By consciousreminder

The old paradigm of life-controlling and mind-manipulating belief systems has left many to finally realize

they have been living in an artificial reality created by egotistical people on power trips.

This has led to a situation where many are wandering, trying to find their own way in

a world without many true leaders.

As a result of this, a new market has developed which attempts to showcase answers to these

people who have become disillusioned with the old dogmatic systems.

However, there are quite a few (an understatement) in this new domain of contemporary spiritual

guidance that are taking outright advantage of people and creating circumstances that

vary very little from the old paradigm, they simply polished it and gave the illusion that

its something else.

Theres an influx of enlightened masters of the universe pervading the spiritual

sphere these days.

Gurus and spiritual teachers are popping up left and right.

Many of them seem to provide an easy way out of the voids many people feel they have within

their lives and as a result these gurus and teachers make a ridiculously massive amount

of moneyeven earning social ranks akin to being glamorous superstars.

Yes, it seems there are those within the spiritual arena who are looking at the qualitative aspects

self-growth and seeing a marvelous money-making opportunity or a way to have incredible power

over others; a pyramid scheme is sometimes then created and established.

This is very dangerous in that it can negatively affect the perception of legitimacy of the

entire spiritual community and all that it encompasses.

True genuine spiritual teachers and self-growth coaches will be disregarded as just being

false gurus giving out spiritual-sounding nonsense that lacks substance and is unhelpful

for a persons spiritual growth.

Being aware that there are such enlightenment pyramid schemes can help us steer away from

the false gurus and seek out the genuine teachers that truly wish to help people and the global

consciousness of humanity.

It is admittedly difficult at times to see through the spiritual facade that some create

as a front to hide their true nature and intentions, even moreso with teachers who were once very

enlightening but the money and the fame got the best of them.

Having others do the work for us such as various guru rating services that exist today is dangerous

as well since we are putting our faith in a complete stranger to pick out authentic

and genuine spiritual teachers.

It should be obvious that there can be plenty of deception, subjective bias, and decisions

which are made without the raters being fully informed about a particular person in line

for the golden star of approval.

Identifying False Gurus and Spiritual Teachers

Charging Large Amounts of Money

Actions speak infinitely louder than words.

Anyone can proclaim magnificent and wonderful things but do these words live up to how the

person lives and expresses themselves in his or her daily lives?

Perhaps the biggest problem that I have found is the issue of money.

I have seen self-appointed gurus, spiritual teachers, and whatever other title they go

under charging unbelievably large amounts of money for information, knowledge, or so-called

higher wisdom, that is available to everyone (by looking to sages who charge little or

nothing and also looking within for the answers via meditation and other self-induced spiritual

practices), as well as several money embezzlement cases.

If youre paying someone $295 for a spiritual 12 strand DNA activation (a dubious

declaration to make) then youve just been conned.

Giving Themselves Fancy Titles

While on the subject of empty words, when looking to a potential spiritual teacher for

guidance notice if that individual proclaims such magnificent titles referring to themselves

as being enlightened masters, self-realized yogis, or being a saint (one of the ultimate

delusions of grandeur following the narcissistic Christ Complex).

An enlightened person finds no need for ego masturbation.

Those who have experienced the Ultimate/Absolute Reality dont continuously boast about how

they have achieved enlightenment and are better than others.

They are in fact, quite humble (perhaps sometimes too humble, but humble they are).

They understand that there is no benefit to themselves or their students to make such

declarations based on the realizations theyve had about Reality.

There is no need to establish a hierarchical framework amongst teachers and students as

we are all passengers on the same train, separated only slightly in that we sometimes sit in

different train cars.

We are all going the same direction, ultimately.

Inability to Take Criticism

Another sign of a con-man in gurus clothing is whether the person is able to take criticism

or not.

Those who are not genuine spiritual teachers will get offended and defensive over criticisms

made towards them instead of looking inward and taking into consideration what those criticisms

are (nobody is perfect, after all).

How dare an unenlightened mortal criticize them!

I have even seen the sad situation of lawsuits being made by these so-called enlightened

masters against people who had the nerve to point out something they feel was incorrect,

deceptive, harmful, etc.

Overly Focused on the End Goal

If you notice a spiritual teacher or guru having an almost-bizarre love affair with

enlightenment this and enlightenment that, be cautious.

Many of these enlightenment gurus focus on enlightenment itself instead of actually teaching

others how exactly to attain that state.

They do not teach about all the baby-steps leading up to the enlightening of ones

awareness in the most authentic of ways.

Even the revered Buddha did not reach enlightenment overnight.

Unless a spiritual teacher shows you a realistic way to reach enlightenment (such as through

a particular meditation or awareness expanding technique) then you will be better off without

their helpand you will keep your hard-earned money as well.

Behaving Hypocritically

Beware of hypocrites!

This is perhaps one of the simplest methods of weeding out spiritual snake-oil salesmen.

Look if they practice what they preach.

If they teach about how you should meditate daily to promote your spiritual growth, do

they meditate daily?

Are they leading by example?

When they talk about radiating love and your inner light and all that is beautiful, are

they doing so themselves?

Nobody likes a hypocrite, especially if that hypocrite is promising spiritual enlightenment.

Do as I say not as I do shouldnt be an excuse for a teacher to be hypocritical.

Focus on Fulfilling Egocentric Desires

One especially important aspect of a guru or spiritual teacher that we should look into

is their investment in the material aspects of life.

Are they displaying behavior that is indicative of being a neophyte on the spiritual path?

Do they overly focus on money, sex, and power?

A dynamic Taoist-like balance is a necessity for a balanced life but when dependence and

abuse start to emerge and creep into the mind then there is a problem.

Displaying Spiritual Materialism

Spiritual materialism is something that Chogyam Trungpa (who himself was prone to spiritual

pitfalls) wrote about in the 1970s classic Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism about

something thats especially become more of an issue in recent years and is worth becoming

more aware about for anyone on the path to self-realization and enlightenment.

The increased focus on spiritual materialism is problematic.

All the courses, teachings, books, and workshops that focus on using the Law of Attraction

to bring us riches and worldly abundance hold materialist desires at their core, and do

not reflect actual messages of spiritual growth.

Although spiritual growth and self-actualization can lead to like attracting like because of

the immense positivity we project outward, attracting riches is not the purpose of attaining

these mind states.

These messages that use the dynamics of attraction are not bad in and of themselves, but when

they are misrepresented as being a path towards higher spirituality, then that is when we

should be cautious of proceeding further.

Do not become lost in the illusion that faux spirituality creates.

Behaving Selfishly

Selflessness should be the dominant quality in the spiritually-advanced soul, not selfishness.

Spirituality has no place for superstars and glamour.

It is not the spiritual teacher themselves that should be the focus, but rather the spiritual

messages and teachings.

How can we attain our own Self-realization if our position of awareness is focused externally

on the teacher, rather than internally on the Self?

Promising a Fast Path to Self-Realization

There is nothing directly bad with spiritual workshops themselves, but when you see a spiritual

teacher giving a spiritual course thats several hundred or thousand dollars and lasts

several days or even weeks do not expect to reach enlightenment just by completing such

a workshop.

Yes, we all live busy lives and feel as if we do not have enough time to dedicate towards

our spiritual growth, but lets be realistic: it is highly unlikely you will become fully

self-realized in 3 weeks on a retreat in Bali.

The processes of spiritual growth, self-actualization, self-realization, and enlightenment can take

years or an entire lifetime (some even say multiple lifetimes).

Its said that there is only one person in recorded history that attained enlightenment

in one lifetime (Milerapa) and the way he attained the enlightened state was highly

unorthodox, to put it lightly.

We would all like to believe that there is a fast lane to these things, but this is not

the case.

Of course, there are always exceptions and some reach the mountains summit faster

than others, but as a whole, it is a process that includes much dedication and time.

In closing

These are several ways in which you can spot a false guru, spiritual teacher, or other

peddler of faux spirituality.

In this day and age where there are thousands of so-called gurus, we have to be careful

who we choose to listen to because if we make the mistake of following someone who is ego-centered

in their true intentions, then we will lose time, money, and opportunity costs (among

other things).

It is my hope that this article can help in discerning between the genuine teacher that

wishes nothing more than to help others become self-realized and experience spiritual bliss

and those who proclaim they will do these things for you, but in reality are just emptying

your bank account.

Be mindful of who you decide to listen to and follow, and you will be thankful you spent

some time to discern between those who are looking out for others and those who are looking

out for themselves.

6 Signs Your Spouse Is Having An Affair - Duration: 6:04.

Is your spouse having an affair?

In this YouTube video, I'm going to share with you 6 signs that this might be happening

to you.

Hey YouTube, Brad here.

I'm YouTube's #1 marriage and breakup expert, and this is probably one of the most

difficult topics that I'll ever talk about.

Infidelity is one of the biggest marriage destroyers.

And a lot of the times, even the strongest of marriages can't even survive an affair.

But before I dive into these signs, I have to talk about a couple important facts…

and these facts might be a little unsettling to you no matter what situation you're in.

Fact number one is that your partner could be showing almost all of these signs and still

not be cheating on you.

You're going to have to take this video with a grain of salt because you can never

be 100% sure until your partner admits it to you… or if you catch him or her red handed.

However, the signs I'm about to talk about are most definitely an indicator of something

wrong in your marriage, so it's important to keep this in mind moving forward.

The second fact is… your partner could be displaying almost NONE of these results and

STILL be having an affair on you.

In fact, it's estimated that the vast majority of affairs go undetected.

I know, if you're in a happy marriage, this may be a hard fact to swallow… but facts

are facts.

Unfortunately, some people can be such amazing liars that their partners never find out.

We also have to keep in mind that affairs can happen in good marriages too.

Just because an affair takes place doesn't mean the person committing the act is evil

or an 'awful person'.

It is possible to salvage a marriage even after something as daunting as an affair.

Just remember that no matter how difficult things may be for you in your marriage, you

must maintain a strong, confident, and positive outlook if you have any chance to save your

marriage.

So without further ado, here is my list of the top 6 signs your spouse may be having

an affair.

1.)

Your spouse gets aggravated easily.

If your spouse is constantly picking fights with you about seemingly mundane things, it

might be a sign that something is brewing deep down inside.

So if your spouse is making you feel like you can't do anything right, or you just

seem like you can't do anything to make your spouse calmer and more forgiving, it

could be a sign their mind has been wandering lately.

If this is happening to you, it's important to NOT snap back at your spouse… for now,

keep a cool head and find the right time to calmly ask your spouse why they're acting

this way.

2.)

Your spouse is becoming emotionally distant from you.

If your spouse is acting a little quieter, more withdrawn, or even depressed and sad,

it could be a sign that there's something going on that he or she isn't telling you.

Again, like I said at the beginning of this video, this might be a sign of something that

has nothing to do with an affair, but rest assured that if your spouse is acting this

strange, you can bet there's something up.

Tread carefully when you're with an emotionally distanced spouse… if something is really

bugging him or her, you could really tip them off with the wrong words.

Instead of prying, approach your spouse from a position of support…say something like,

"I know something is wrong, and I really want to help.

If you don't want to talk about it now, then I understand."

Start from there and see where it goes.

3.)

Your spouse is working longer hours.

If your spouse is working beyond their typical work hours, then this might be a sign that

there's some infidelity that might be happening.

If he or she is coming home late and/or taking some strange work trips, this can be a big

indicator of infidelity.

4.)

Your spouse wants more "space".

If your spouse is uncharacteristically asking for more space or 'room to breathe', you

can be sure that something is up…especially if things haven't always been this way.

If your spouse is asking for more space, then give it to him or her and continue monitoring

how they're acting.

Sooner or later, you'll be able to bring up this issue to your spouse and attempt to

get to the bottom of their peculiar behaviour.

If you feel like your marriage is strained or if you feel like your spouse is slowly

pulling away from you… then head on over to MarriageGuy.com and watch the free video

presentation on that website.

In it, I go over 3 ingredients that every successful marriage needs to have.

Again, that URL is www.MarriageGuy.com.

5.)

And this next one is a little bit strange, but if your spouse is suddenly paying close

attention to their appearance, it could be a sign that he or she is trying to impress

someone else.

For example, if they're buying new clothes, going to the gym, making sure their hair is

spot on before he or she goes out, it could be a sign that they're seeing someone they

want to impress.

This is especially suspicious if the desire to look good comes along suddenly.

So be on the lookout!

6.)

Your spouse is suddenly a stickler for privacy.

This should be a pretty obvious one, but it's worth noting.

If your spouse is suddenly scared about you prying into their life, then this is a huge

red flag.

It's important that both partners maintain some level of privacy in a marriage, however,

if you feel like your partner is taking it too far, then you can be sure that they're

hiding something.

Here's my favourite test… the next time you and your partner are together, pick up

their phone and say you need to Google something.

If they start freaking out, then you know something is up.

Same goes for their computer… any sort of suspicious behaviour involving their electronic

devices might be a big clue.

Of course, this isn't an exhaustive list of signs your ex may be cheating on you.

If you feel like your spouse might be cheating on you, then I encourage you sign up for my

personal coaching program at MarriageGuy.com/coaching.

Together we can discover what your spouse is really up to… and I can go over some

tried, tested, and true methods to make you can revitalize your relationship and save

your marriage.

The Root Of All Diseases Emotional Breakdown! - Duration: 7:04.

The Root Of All Diseases: Emotional Breakdown!

Even in ancient China, doctors knew that emotions had a strong impact on the human body.

According to Chinese medicine, the underlying cause of all diseases are emotions, and each

organ has its own.

The lungs are associated with sadness, liver with anger, kidneys with fear, the stomach

with worries and so on.

Each organ has a different taste.

Lungs like spicy and hot, the liver like sour, the spleen loves sweet, and kidneys like salty.

The organs have their own energy path, say Chinese doctors.

The energy is called chi and is codependent with blood, so the Chinese doctors say that

blood is the mother of energy and the energy is bloods master.

Kidneys are one of the most important organs according to Chinese medicine, as they represent

the basis of yin and yang and are one of the most important energy centers of our body.

They are related to the skeletal system, the hearing and fears.

By treating the kidneys, you affect all these systems.

The liver is blood-related, it filters blood and is usually treated in cases of menstrual

cycle disorders in women.

Some of the liver dysfunction symptoms appear in the form of itching, headaches and dizziness.

One of the most important functions of the liver is to ensure continual flow of energy

through our body, but, it also maintains the flow of our thoughts.

If the liver is working properly, there should be no stress or pressure.

People with a healthy liver are calm, make decisions easily and make good leaders.

The first signs of liver disharmony are related to anger, irritability, stubbornness, anxiety,

bitterness, violence If these emotions are not expressed and channeled, then they

can lead to depression or frequent mood swings.

There are also a number of physical symptoms that point to liver disharmony.

The most common symptoms of this syndrome are menstrual problems, fatigue, tensions,

stiffness of the body, pain in the area below the ribs, allergies etc

How and why emotional breakdowns happen

Emotions are able to cause different illnesses even in strong people.

They just need to hit the most sensitive spot in the body and cause dysfunction.

What happens next we call psychosomatic illnesses or soul illnesses.

We cant always avoid stressful situations;we are forced to face and try to overcome them.

People use different strategies to deal with stress.

When a person assesses they can successfully control the situation, he or she is using

active, problem solving-oriented strategies.

Otherwise, people turn to emotion-oriented coping strategies, which help reduce the stressful

experience.

The worst thing we could do for our health is to avoid confrontation, which, in the long

term, increases the stress levels and speeds up the development of the disease.

Psychosomatic diseases can be defined as stress-induced diseases, with permanent damage to the bodys

systems and organs.

My hear hurts

Based on the joined research of the team of doctors and psychologists, it was concluded

that love and hurt come through the heart.

However, other organs in the human body are not spared from the attacks of the soul.

This means that, a wounded soul most often affects the cardiovascular, respiratory

and digestive system.

But, often, visible parts of the body are also exposed to strong attacks of the soul,

like, for example, the skin on the chest, back and arms.

Women are more affected than men

Women are more often victims of various psychosomatic illnesses.

However, they are inclined to believe that the cause of their suffering is of psychological

origin or nature.

Men rarely believe that mental problems are the main cause of a sickness.

In them emotions often have shorter expiration dates.

Also, men empty out their emotional charge more quickly.

Most sensitive body zones

The organs that usually get affected by the attacks of the soul the most, are:

BACK When you think that you carry all the lifes burdens on your back, the strongest

pains and tension in this area appear.

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM You are not able to breathe or you breathe heavily, you choke

and have a feeling that something is blocking your throat- all these are symptoms coming

from the outside world and give you clear signals.

The reasons are always psychological and emotionally colored it is a sign that some people,

situations, or events are suffocating you.

THE HEART This is the organ that certainly is most strongly connected to our emotional

life and survival of certain situations.

When you are preparing for a date, your heart is beating fast, and when you are in the company

of a loved one you have the feeling that your heart will jump out of the chest.

However, when you are very frightened, your heart stops.

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM People who are introverted and too introspective, have great problems

with the digestive system.

Especially, those who have problems in communicating with others, most often suffer from gastritis

or ulcer.

SKIN Rashes, pimples or spots on the face show that a person does not feel good in

their skin.

Often, different skin diseases indirectly indicate that we want to reject some people

or the situation we have in life.

Duck is the common name for a large number of species in the waterfowl family Anatidae, which also includes swans and geese.

Ducks are generally monogamous, although these bonds usually last only a single year.

Most duck species breed once a year, choosing to do so in favorable conditions (spring/summer or wet seasons).

Mainstream media outlets are dropping the ball with terrorism - politics - Duration: 7:52.

Mainstream media outlets are dropping the ball with terrorism coverage

News coverage of the Manchester terrorist attack was sadly familiar: cellphone videos

of screaming victims; details of first responders hectic efforts; Was it terrorism? guesswork;

speculation about the perpetrator.

In this case, the horror was amplified by so many of the killed and wounded being young

people.

Since the 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, covering the type of violence inspired

by al-Qaeda or the Islamic State (IS) has become a staple of the news medias repertoire.

Collectively, this reporting increases the publics sense of vulnerability: An evil

is out there, unpredictable and ferocious, sure to strike again.

But whats behind that evil?

When I watch or read mainstream news coverage of the attacks, they tend to treat them as

distinct events, much like a train wreck or bank robbery.

As I worked on my forthcoming book, As Terrorism Evolves: Media, Religion, and Governance,

it became clear that for all the breathless headlines about IS-inspired terror attacks,

many know little about the complexities of terrorism and Islam.

Who are these people who murder so wantonly?

Why do they do it?

And, most importantly, how might such attacks be stopped?

Answering such questions requires daily news coverage that consists of more than depictions

of scattered chaos.

A holistic approach to reporting about terrorism might better explain this phenomenon thats

reshaping our lives, much as the Cold War did 50 years ago.

A journalistic void

Western reporting about IS-inspired terrorist attacks almost always, explicitly or implicitly,

notes a connection to Islam.

But it often ends there.

Many journalists shy away from religious topics, and this creates a vacuum of public knowledge

that terrorists and anti-Muslim activists and politicians can exploit.

The result?

A religion of 1.6 billion people is being defined in public discourse by the acts of

the few who spill blood in a Manchester arena or a Baghdad marketplace.

And because there is such limited understanding of Islam in the non-Muslim world 55 percent

of Americans say they know little or nothing at all about Islam many news consumers

are prone to accept the idea that Islam-equals-terrorism. Results of a 2015 Pew Research Center study

underscored the pervasiveness of stereotypes and the tensions underlying them, with significant

numbers of Americans viewing Muslims as anti-American and violent.

When political figures denounce Muslims, or when there is anti-Muslim backlash following

an attack, terrorist organizations chalk up a victory.

Because some Muslims will inevitably see their religion as being under siege, they become

susceptible to recruitment by the likes of al-Qaida and IS, who portray themselves as

defenders of the religion.

Following terror attacks, anti-extremism responses from Muslim communities might receive some

coverage.

For example, an antiterrorism message produced in Kuwait and broadcast soon after the Manchester

bombing quickly went viral on social media and received coverage from Western news media.

Nonetheless, Islam usually disappears from the news until the next tragedy, even though

approximately 80 percent of Muslims live outside the Arab world in countries of rising importance

such as Indonesia, Pakistan and Nigeria.

The global political clout of Islam is, in some ways, like that of Catholicism centuries

ago.

If the role of Islam in world affairs were to receive continuing coverage, perhaps news

consumers would realize that there is far more to Islam than violence.

And if antipathy toward Islam were to diminish, terrorists would lose a recruiting tool.

Honestly addressing the threat

That said, this coverage should also address state-sponsored extremism, most notably Saudi

Arabias well-funded promotion of Wahabbist Muslim ideology.

This fundamentalist doctrine is intrinsically separatist and lends itself to militancy.

It provides a purported theological rationale for treating moderate Muslims as well

as non-Muslims as enemies.

While Western politicians are restrained in dealing with this for reasons related to oil

and regional geopolitics, the news media could play a more forceful role in describing how

even purported allies help terrorism take root.

Journalists could also more thoroughly examine the sophistication of terrorist operations.

Islamic State, for example, has deftly used social media to inspire terrorist attackers,

even those with whom it has no direct contact.

The perpetrators of the December 2015 terror attack in San Bernardino, California had received

no training or orders from Islamic State, but they pledged allegiance to IS and launched

the attack based on what they had gleaned from IS online content.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, the current leader of al-Qaida, recognized the power of media when he wrote,

back in 2004, that more than half of this battle is taking place in the battlefield

of the media . . . we are in a media battle in a race for the hearts and minds of our

Umma [Muslim people].

IS has used social media to spread its message, recruit followers, train fighters and raise

funds.

Governments and nongovernmental groups have recently become more adept at pushing back

against this the U.S. State Department has released over 300 YouTube videos to counter

the messaging of extremist groups but the news media still tend to understate the

organizational and military capabilities of terrorist groups.

Consider the long-running story of efforts to liberate Mosul, Iraqs second-largest

city, which Islamic State has held since 2014.

Iraqi and American sources provide vaguely optimistic updates, which are duly reported.

But this battle has been underway since October 2016.

Despite the U.S.-backed onslaught, parts of Mosul remain under Islamic State control.

What does this portend for future Islamic State military efforts and its far-ranging

terrorist attacks?

Relying on daily combat bulletins obscures the long-term realities that journalists should

be analyzing.

More broadly, counterterrorism efforts by the United States and other countries deserve

greater scrutiny.

The public needs to know whats working and what isnt.

Defeating terrorism will require a mix of hard and soft power.

Shutting down terrorists recruiting pipelines is crucial.

That requires innovative programs to reach those who are vulnerable to extremist appeals.

Terrorism is a pervasive enough part of our lives to merit more consistent news coverage,

and journalists on the terrorism beat must develop expertise about this multidimensional

topic.

(Among the best are Joby Warrick of The Washington Post and Rukmini Callimachi of The New York

Times.)

But overall, terrorism-related journalism remains episodic and simplistic.

The ConversationSince the rude awakening of 9/11, journalism, in my view, hasnt kept

pace with the bloody growth of terrorism.

It needs to catch up.
