Investigative Reporter Uncovers How Trump�s Favorite Nickname for CNN Got Started

The origin of the infamous �fake news� phrase hurled back-and-forth between mainstream

media outlets and President Donald Trump appears to have been uncovered by an investigative

journalist.

At a recent TedX Talk at the University of Nevada, investigative journalist and author

Sharyl Attkisson revealed how the 45th president weaponized the term and used it against mainstream

media outlets.

As reported by PJ Media, Attkisson noted that the term �fake news� has been around for

ages in the form of phrases such as �false media narratives� and �tabloid journalism.�

However, the new �fake news� term began taking shape in 2016 when mainstream media

outlets began pushing viewers to focus on false narratives supposedly pushed by conservative

media outlets.

Attkisson began searching further to uncover the origins of the term, discovering that

a non-profit organization named First Draft appeared �to be the about the first to use

�fake news� in its modern context.�

First Draft claims to use �research-based methods to fight mis- and disinformation online.�

But, as noted by Attkisson, the organization had a major donor in the form of Google � more

on that later.

On September 13, 2016, First Draft announced a partnership to tackle malicious hoaxes and

fake news reports,� Attkisson said during her TedX Talk.

�The goal was supposedly to separate wheat from chaff, to prevent unproven conspiracy

talk from figuring prominently in internet searches.

To relegate today�s version of the alien baby story to a special internet oblivion.�

Then, according to Attkisson, former President Barack Obama interjected himself into the

conversation of outing malicious media outlets.

He insisted in a speech that he too thought somebody needed to step in and curate information

of this wild, wild West media environment,� she added, insisting that mainstream media

had now received �its marching orders.�

�Fake news, they insisted, was an imminent threat to American democracy,� she continued.

The investigative journalist then asked the crowd to ponder this possibility: �What

if the whole anti-fake news campaign was an effort on somebody�s part to keep us from

seeing or believing certain websites and stories by controversializing them or labeling them

as fake news?�

As mentioned earlier, Google was a big donor to the small non-profit First Draft.

Attkisson discovered that Google�s parent company, Alphabet, was headed by a man named

Eric Schmidt.

Schmidt, as reported by PJ Media, was a major supporter of former Secretary of State and

2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

According to Attkisson, �(T)he whole thing smacked of the roll-out of a propaganda campaign,�

but it inevitably backfired as Trump began flipping the term and using the fake news

moniker against the media outlets who originally aimed it at him and his party.

But something happened that nobody expected.

The anti-fake news campaign backfired,� she said.

�Each time advocates cried fake news, Donald Trump called them �fake news� until he�d

co-opted the term so completely that even those who (were) originally promoting it started

running from it � including the Washington Post.�

Attkisson provided the audience with warning signs that massive corporations may �be

trying to manipulate� their views and opinions.

The first warning sign she described is when media outlets attempt to reshape or outright

censor facts as opposed to reporting them.

And the second sign to remain aware of is when multiple media outlets are reporting

the same stories and pushing the same narratives and using identical phrases.

�When interests are working this hard to shape your opinion, their true goal might

just be to add another layer between you and the truth,� Attkisson said in conclusion.

hi i'm fran and i'm the operations manager of the materials recovery

facility in water beach Cambridge I've been with the company for four and a

half years now I started way back when in 2013 I'd done my environmental

science degree at Plymouth uni and I decided that waste was where I wanted to

be so I wrote a letter on some recycled paper sent it in and had my fingers

crossed I emailed the Education Centre that we've got here I asked if I could

volunteer with them showing around schools learning a bit about the site

and that way I would get to know if this really was the place for me I was

employed with Amey as an apprentice and that was a two-year scheme where I had

to do my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards at the same time as work and training it

was a great two years it was hard work but at the end of it I was satisfied

that I'd done the best that I could in that two years and I'd learn as much as

I could about the contract that I work on an opportunity arose to work in

Hertfordshire HRC sites so I I took that opportunity and again I was learning

from the people that I work with on a daily basis regarding data Council KPI's

how we provide the service and the expectations from our client to us then

an opportunity came up to come and work at this place

so I decided yeah that's really it's in my local area I'm keen to develop and

challenge myself in a different way I hadn't worked in operations before so it

was quite daunting to start with but actually I just embraced it worked with

the manager that was here at the time and really learnt step by step what was

needed how can we improve how can we cost save how can we make it a safer

place and and really just being here on a day to

day basis your passion for that job increases and you just continue with it

and and it becomes part of your life when the opportunity arose to

become a operations manager it was a natural yes it was a scary move but at

the same time I feel that if you don't do anything that scares you then then

what's the point training at Amey has started right at the

beginning for me because I was an apprentice and there's expectations that

you do all of your Duke of Edinburgh tasks but at the same time you have to

do classroom based learning which is at the time with six modules of just how to

manage yourself how to be in the workplace I've been put on the people

managers program so that's really allowed me to know how to manage a team

effectively manage my own time the requirements that Amey need from me as an

operational manager and as well as that I've done my IOSH training so health

and safety and as you can imagine is a massive part of everything we do here

and so that's been a really critical part of my learning I completely believe

in internal promotions I feel that if you know someone's got the drive the

ambition and the tenacity to succeed then we should be providing them with

those steps to move up personally for me I'm not career driven but I enjoy what I

do I have to enjoy my daily job because we spend a lot of time at work if you're

creative bring that creativity bring those ideas and enthusiasm if you're a

IT guru bring that you know everyone is different in their own way and I

appreciate that I'm not an engineer for example however managing this place

takes a lot of that logic and so that's something that you can learn and if you

are wired to learning and if you're ready for that then you can pretty much

achieve whatever you like

Even if your recollection of R&B girl groups is foggy, as soon as you hear the first guitar

riff of 3LW's hit "No More (Baby I'ma Do Right)," you might still find yourself able to sing

along.

But you might be less aware of what original group members Adrienne Bailon, Naturi Naughton

and Kiely Williams have been up to since the band was active in the early 2000s.

Food fight

3LW's original lineup changed in 2002 after Naturi Naughton was allegedly forced out of

the group.

Naughton told MTV News that 3LW's management led to growing tensions that caused the split,

describing a scene that could have been right out of a high school movie: a food fight.

The band members had picked up dinner when, during a heated argument, member Kiely Williams

threw a full KFC meal at her — which Naughton described on Wendy Williams' radio show.

"And all I know is, out of the blue, Kiely just is like, 'Eff you.'

And then throws the plate dead in my face, in my eye.

My eye was watering."

"Yeah, well, you had mashed potatoes and gravy!"

That was the moment she officially decided to leave 3LW.

The acting bug

After Naughton's departure, 3LW was still together when original band members Adrienne

Bailon and Kiely Williams joined the four-person girl group the Cheetah Girls, joining Raven-Symone

and Sabrina Bryan.

The group was formed for a 2003 Disney Channel original movie of the same name, which featured

original music performed by the cast.

The film, an upbeat tale about four talented friends forging their own path as a girl group,

took on a life of its own, much to the surprise of the cast.

"i did not think The Cheetah Girls was gonna be a hit."

Even today, she's too embarrassed to let her husband watch it.

"Once I finished the film, I never wanted guys to watch it.

Until this day, I don't want Israel to watch it."

But Bailon and Williams weren't the only members of 3LW to get into acting.

Naughton also made waves with her portrayal of rapper Lil' Kim in Notorious, the 2009

bio-pic about the Notorious B.I.G.

Lil' Kim, however, was reportedly not a fan of Naughton's performance.

"I was a first-time actress in a film, this was the beginning of my career, I'm a little

black girl from Jersey… and um, you know, I wish her nothing but the best."

Premium cable viewers can watch Naughton on Starz in the 50 Cent-produced show Power,

where she plays Tasha, the wife of a drug dealer who dreams of going legit.

As of early 2018, Power has aired four seasons and has been renewed for a fifth.

In 2018, Naughton won an NAACP Image Award for her performance.

A-list feuds

After dating Rob Kardashian, Bailon told Latina magazine,

"To be stuck with that Kardashian label, that was so hurtful to me and to my career.

I probably realized that too late… it would've affected my decision to appear on the show."

While Kim Kardashian never mentioned Bailon by name, she did respond with a series of

tweets, writing:

"Funny how she says being with a Kardashian hurt her career yet the only reason she has

this article is bc she is talking about a Kardashian,"

"So sad when people try to kick my brother when he is down #FamilyForever."

The Real

These days, Adrienne Bailon can be found on TV as one of the co-hosts of the syndicated

talk show The Real.

"So i wear this watch here, but I can't tell time."

Bailon and co-stars Loni Love, Tamera Mowry-Housley, and Jeannie Mai discuss topics including current

events, beauty, style, and love.

Wedding Bells

After all that Kardashian drama, Bailon married her longtime boyfriend Israel Houghton in

November 2016.

"My favorite human being on the planet to ever ever ever exist, the love of my life,

my best friend, my fiance, Mister Israel Houghton."

People reported that Bailon and the gospel singer wed in Paris at the Hotel Plaza Athénée,

with approximately 70 guests, including Bailon's co-hosts from The Real.

Bailon, who now often uses the last name Houghton, shared a one-year anniversary photo on Instagram

of the two dancing in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Babies on Board

While Kiely Williams isn't on TV at the moment, she did recently announce some big news in

her personal life: she's pregnant! Williams shared an Instagram photo in October 2017

of a pair of tiny ballet shoes, saying,

"Oh, baby!

It's a girl!

Our tiny dancer will make her debut March 2018!"

The father is Williams' husband, Brandon "BJ" Cox, who she married in 2016.

In July 2017, Naturi Naughton gave birth to her first child, also a girl.

People reported the father as her longtime boyfriend Ben.

The pair got ready for the birth of their child with an "Afro-centric" baby shower that

Naughton said included, quote, "tribal decor with a village vibe."

While Naughton has yet to share any photos of her daughter on Instagram, she shared plenty

of pics of her baby bump in the months leading up to the birth.

Making Amends

Many years after the food fight to end all food fights, Naughton and Bailon made up.

Naughton appeared on The Real, where she and Bailon revealed that they had spoken privately

years earlier at an Us Weekly party.

While Bailon never actually threw food at Naughton, she was one of the original members

who stayed in 3LW after Naughton was pushed out.

"There was a lot that went on in that time that now looking back is just like, you were

so young and it was crazy and that I genuinely from the bottom of my heart never meant any

harm towards you."

Naughton took the opportunity to talk about the importance of young women in the entertainment

industry coming together.

"And I appreciate your apology 'cuz it's just humility, and at the end of the day we have

to love and support each other."
