If that introduction did not sound familiar that is because it was a secret message hidden
in the Lore tab of Telesto.
Thank you to The Panda Man who tweeted me the discovery yesterday, a Lore tab that had
been around since Curse of Osiris, and normally reads like this.
However, if you take the first letter of each word, it spells, Crow untrustworthy desires
power.
A clue that Prince Uldren would betray us!
So, today I wanted to take a detailed look at everything we know about Prince Uldren
from the destiny 1 grimoire cards and destiny 2 lore.
Specifically, we will look at the Crows, and who controls them, Uldren's interactions
with Petra Venj, Variks, Eris Morn, the Queen of the Reef and the fallen, and finally some
generally information on the Awoken and the concept of Reefborn VS earthborn Awoken.

Before starting this video, I wanted to address some of the concerns I have seen in the youtube
comments and on twitter regarding my work with Bungie.
Without doubt, I am in an extremely privileged position to be working with Bungie whilst
also continuing my youtube channel, and the responsibility of balancing both those roles
is something that I take very seriously.
I want to reassure you, that this channel will never post story spoilers, I would never
want to ruin the secrets and surprises of Destiny's universe, when I speculate or
theory-craft, this is my opinion and will only be on topics where I have the exact same
amount of information as you.
Bungie has given me an enormous amount of trust, and I definitely wont be breaking that
with a youtube video.
With that being said, this is myelin games and I hope you enjoy this latest Destiny 2
lore episode.
[INTRO] Lets start of with the Crows, considering
Prince Uldren is the, Master of Crows.
The Crows are a very interesting and powerful force within the Destiny Universe and this
is what we know about them so far.
Firstly their appearance is described in two different ways.
The first is literally a mechanical bird, a Crow, and the second is more of Awoken field
agent/spy, similar to Eris Morn's the Hidden.
The best description of the Crows as mechanical birds comes from Ghost Fragment: Queen's
Brother.
It reads, The machine had wings and feathers, sleek
and black as its body.
But the feathers were eyes, too, sharp and delicate, and ears that pricked at every sound.
The young prince considered the machine, considered its purpose, and his own.
And then he called to it.
"I have a task for you."
Obedience was woven into its workings, and so it stopped.
"Master of Crows?"
"Mind the Black Garden's gate.
Follow anyone who passes through."
"In the name of your sister," the machine vowed.
And it went to find its warp capsule, just as another came in.
But this one flew skittishly, as if to evade its master.
The prince caught it from the air.
"You avoid me?"
"I am tasked by the Queen."
"But you serve me."
He let it tremble in displeasure for a moment.
"Tell me your news."
The machine flicked its wings.
The prince stroked them flat with slow assured motions.
"Tell me your news," he said again.
"What's the harm?"
"The Heart is growing stronger," the crow said.
"The Vex transformation has begun, and the Progeny are stirring."
The prince considered this in silence for a moment and then he wrapped the crow up in
his fist and folded its wings around it so that it could not move or fly.
He did all this swiftly, and with purpose.
Carrying the machine, he went to see his sister.
She was alone with her Fallen guards, sitting before a window into infinity.
Her eyes did not leave the universe; but sensing her brother she said "Yes.
What is it?"
"There's news to share," he said, and offered the crow in his fist.
"And I think I have earned the right to share it."
As you can see this card is very useful in describing what the Crows look like, Prince
Uldren is actually able to bundle it up in his hand, folding its wings.
In addition, whilst it is described as a machine, it obviously has human-like traits, as it
trembles in fear and flies skittishly in the company of Prince Uldren.
The other description of the Crows is more akin to an Awoken spy.
This description is seen in Ghost Fragment: Fallen 5 grimoire card.
This card takes place after the events of the Taken King, and Variks is now in charge
of the Crows in the absence of Uldren.
Variks is investigating SIVA and says this, Variks of House Judgment sneered at the abomination.
"Golden Age project, yes?" he clicked, turning to the Crow.
His field agent was a young Awoken woman.
"Technology of old Earth.
Learned from the Great Machine."
The Eliksni burbled to himself in mocking laughter and gestured with his lower hands.
"You do us proud.
Go.
Speak with other Crows, learn more about these...
Devil Splicers."
She nodded, a small smile on her face, and left the chamber.
This card implies that the crows are like Awoken field agents.
If the Crows make an appearance in Forsaken, I will be interested in seeing what appearance
Bungie chooses to use.
Personally, I would like to see the robotic crow, and the concept art at this stage shows
Crows, but that could just be symbolic, I think it is also possible to have a field
agent Crow.
Personally, I would like to see the robotic crows as it fits into the dark and western
theme of Forsaken.
The reason why I am so interested in the Crows, is because they have been quite a powerful
force throughout the history of Destiny.
For example, during the Reef Wars, it was the Crows that broke the House of Wolves'
encryption.
This allowed the Awoken to determine that the house of wolves miscalculated the trajectory
of an asteroid, and with this information the Awoken maneuvered the ships to chase a
Fallen Ketch into the trajectory of the asteroid destroying it.
This gives a real sense of the strategy and tactics of Prince Uldren and the Crows, how
they can take a small piece of intelligence and leverage that information to win a battle.
Similarly, the Crows were the first to make contact with Variks, when he was still aligned
with the Fallen.
It was the Crows that brought Varik's message back to the Queen of the Reef, obviously the
Queen accepted this intelligence, which then lead to an ambush at Cybele, leading to the
capture of Skolas.
So once again, the Crows played a crucial role in espionage during the Reef Wars and
them being able to contact Variks, reach out to Variks, lead to Varik's betrayal of Skolas.
In addition, the Crows know the location of the Nine, or at least, the previous location
the Nine, as they are sent to the Cauldrons of Rhea and Queen of the Reef sends Skolas
to the Nine, as a trophy and apology for the Crow spies poking around in their territory.
Whilst the Crows description as a spy, as a tool to gather intelligence is most common
in the lore, you should not underestimate their ability in combat.
They are also described as helping the Techuens, the Tech-witches of the Queen to summon an
illusion of the Harbingers, which once again was used to win a battle during the Reef Wars.
The Techeuns are the figures seen on either side of the Queen during the Taken King cutscene
where the Awoken take on Oryx's dreadnaught.
The Harbinger is the weapon that they summoned, so, the Techeuns are very powerful, but it
was the Crows that helped summon an illusion of this weapon during the Reef Wars.
Without question the Crows are a powerful force during times of war and so the next
question becomes, whose side are the Crows on, do they still have allegiance to Prince
Uldren.
The obvious answer, would be yes, because he is Master of Crows, and in the previous
quoted grimoire card, Ghost Fragment: Queen's Brother, it said that obedience was woven
into their workings, HOWEVER, in the same exact card it shows a Crow avoiding Prince
Uldren and trying to take information directly to the Queen, so is their obedience to the
Prince Uldren or the Queen.
In addition, when Queen mara sov sends Skolas to the nine in Ghost Fragment: The Queen,
she says this, "Send them one of our prizes.
Something to commemorate our mutual victory."
"And which of your prisoners would you gift?"
If she paused to think it was only for an instant.
"Send them Skolas."
"A lovely gesture."
"Mm."
She cocked her head as if listening for a frozen heartbeat.
"And remind them this: the Crows are mine."'
Complicating the ownership of the Crows, after the Taken King, with Prince Uldren and the
Queen absent, Petra Venj gives control of the Crows to Variks, the Wolves of Mars card
reads, "Petra has given House Judgement a great
gift.
Variks now speaks for Crows.
Crows fly on black wings, find what House Judgment needs found.
House Judgement and the Reef are allies.
Petra is a friend.
The Crows will do as Petra needs.
But they will also search for Variks, yes?
They will find that which is lost.
The Crows will find the Kell of Kells.
Then Banners will rise as one.
And Eliksni will stand together.
Forever."
Now, we know that Christopher Barrett confirmed in an interview with heavy.com, link in the
description to the interview, that Petra Venj and Variks will be involved in Forsaken in
some way, however Barrett did not confirm any involvement of the Queen in Forsaken.
In my opinion, the only person who could trump Prince Uldren's control of the Crows, would
be the Queen.
So if the Crows appear in Forsaken, I expect Prince Uldren to be in control, or if the
Queen returns, maybe she will control them.
For those, who are new to destiny, the Queen was leaked as not being dead in a bungie dev
team ride along, and also there are multiple clues in the grimoire cards that Prince Uldren
can sense his sister.
Now, lets talk more generally about Prince Uldren's personality and interaction with
other characters in the Destiny Universe.
I am sure many of you would be glad to know that Prince Uldren is a typical Reefborn awoken,
meaning he is not a Guardian, and his next death will be his last.
In Ghost Fragment: The Queen 2, Prince Uldren is speaking with Eris Morn and says this;
"You don't have one."
The Hunter came to a halt in front of the throne, raised her covered face to meet the
Prince's gaze.
"No," she agreed.
"My next death will be my last."
"I know the feeling," the Prince said dryly.
Interestingly, this is not the last time that Prince Uldren meets with Eris Morn, Ghost
Fragment: The Reef describes a secret meeting between Eris Morn and Prince Uldren.
I would be surprised if Eris Morn returned during Forsaken, however Eris Morn does share
a number of similar qualities with that of Prince Uldren, such as, outcast from the City,
no ghost, she commands the Hidden, which you may argue are the equivalent of the Crows.
So apart from knowing that Prince Uldren's death will be his last, what else do you need
to know about Prince Uldren.
Well, he is very traditional when it comes to the Awoken, Awoken can either be Reefborn
or Earthborn, Reefborn Awoken are the original Awoken created in space post collapse and
their resulting families born on the Reef.
Reefborn awoken typically look down upon Earthborn Awoken or Awoken that abandoned the Reef returning
to Earth, and Prince Uldren has maintained this distaste, so much so, that he would consider
moving to the Last City as sacrificing his birthright.
The Queen's Brother grimoire card reads, "I will not sacrifice my birthright for the
promise of security."
As the Queen's confidant, spymaster, and deadliest enforcer, her brother wields enormous power,
particularly for a male born in the Reef's matriarchal society.
Recent reports suggest he may differ from the Queen on key matters of strategy - but
it remains to be seen whether this gap is a source of conflict, or part of the reason
the Queen values him so highly.
The finally aspect of Prince Uldren I wanted to cover was his encounter with the House
of Kings.
Many of you will know that Prince Uldren discovered the Kell of the house of kings who had been
in hiding, and he discovered their location by faking his own capture by the Fallen.
The implication of the Ghost Fragment: The Reef 4 card and the scannables from Destiny
2, was that Prince Uldren was now in control of some Fallen.
Of course, now we know that he is working with Scorn, but we don't really know how
the House of Kings fits into this, if it fits into it at all.
However, what I did want to highlight was a paragraph from Ghost Fragment: The Reef
4 which may be very relevant for Forsaken, have a listen,
He'd spent weeks weaving the illusion that led the Fallen to him.
He'd left bits of his trail where they couldn't help but find them.
He skulked from planet to planet—Mars, then Venus, then Mercury, then back again—following
rumors and whispers.
He'd hid from the Guardians, from his own people.
He'd let everything they had built fall apart, while those still loyal to him searched
every inch of this forsaken system.
Now it was time to stop searching and start building.
He would need soldiers who answered to him and no one else.
Bodies to shape with will and magic and tech to his needs.
These would serve.
Really interesting the comment about bodies to shape with will and magic, because Christopher
Barrett revealed in the interview with Heavy, that the Scorn are like Fallen Zombies, they
have been revived from the Dead and are not affiliated with any house.
I wonder whether Prince Uldren attempted to take control of the house of kings, and they
resisted, he then killed them all, so that he could resurrect any army of loyal soldiers?
