Is Fortnite Better For Deaf Gamers Now? - Duration: 7:32.

(MARKER SCRATCHING)

(ELECTRONIC VIDEO GAME CHIME)

So, I get to talk about video games again today which is pretty great

and I get to talk about one of the games that I've been playing the most

and that is Fortnite.

If you would like to see me play Fortnite,

I do have a Twitch channel, RikkiPoynterPlays,

which I will have a link down below in the description box and in the comments.

So, I actually made a video about Fortnite earlier in the year

talking about how accessible it was to someone who is deaf,

has hearing loss, etc, etc.

And in a nutshell, it wasn't really all that accessible.

I mean, obviously it depends on how much hearing you have

or, you know, what kind of hearing you have,

what you can and can't hear, blah, blah, blah,

because, again, deafness is a spectrum.

And now there's something that's a bit of a game changer.

So, with season five comes a brand-new update with two accessibility features.

One is for blind people and, as a not blind person,

I can't really comment on that.

Maybe James Rath will talk about that

because he has played Fortnite, we've played Fortnite together.

But, for deaf people, we now have visuals

and I can't remember what they called it

but, essentially, it's taking the sounds of chests, footsteps, battles, battling

and letting you know, hey, it's happening

and this is the direction that it's in.

So, what was a good accessibility feature already was that,

when you got shot, it would tell you where you were getting shot from.

So, that's always been there which is great

because I don't think PUBG has that.

Actually, people confirmed in another video that PUBG does not have that.

So, that was a bit of a struggle

but, with Fortnite, you got that accessibility.

However, that's the only accessibility that you got.

Now, I have been able to hear footsteps,

when they're running, anyway, also not all the time

because I've definitely been ambushed without knowing it

and some guns, yes and no,

but, chests, I can't hear chests at all.

Like, it's just impossible for me.

So, what you get with this, I'm gonna try to find a picture to put up here.

So, you get a circle around your character and it comes up little icons.

You get chests and they're, like, a yellow-orange colour

and then there's like a little fire

that kind of insinuates that there's battling going on.

There's footsteps and, you know, the basic sounds that are happening,

you get notified that they're there.

And that is so awesome.

I love being able to have that.

I mean, with the battling and whatnot,

I don't really have a problem with that most of the time.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

But the chests - again, I can't hear them at all.

So, to know that it's gonna let me know that I missed one

is absolutely fantastic and I never want that feature to go away.

So, those are the good things.

There's one thing that is a negative, that I really don't like,

and that is the fact that this accessibility feature

acts like a cochlear implant, OK?

When you turn the feature on, everything else is off.

So, there's no sound whatsoever.

One - you can't hear your teammates.

I tried it with a friend and the talking went 'poof'.

Maybe that was a glitch on my end somehow

because we only used it once but I never used it again

with that setting because how am I supposed to play squad or duo?

I mean, I can't understand everything that my teammates are saying

but, you know, it was still nice to have something.

Now, if you're playing by yourself, it doesn't really matter as much, I guess,

depending on, like, if you like absolutely, like, zero noise

or if it just doesn't apply to you,

maybe you're 100% profoundly deaf,

maybe you do have a cochlear implant and you shut it off today

because you don't want to deal with it, well, it's already quiet.

Or if you're just, like, really, really deaf without the hearing aid.

You know where I'm going with this.

If you're deaf, you know what I'm talking about.

But, as a streamer, this is the most boring thing.

It makes streams so boring and I lose viewers whenever I use it.

So, I was testing out and it was so boring because I'm focused on the game.

I can't always be as entertaining as I want to be when I'm focused on the game,

especially because there's no sound,

so I have to focus only on the visual part of it

which I really only need a visual part of it for chests.

So, if you've got hearing streamers, they're gonna get bored.

Of course, if they like you enough, they're gonna stay

but overall it's just really boring.

I like...because I still have enough hearing

to be able to hear the explosions

and the shots and, you know, whatever else,

I mean, not as loud, not as well as hearing players

but there's something in there, it's nice to have that

and I do feel like I focus a little bit better.

With the visual thing, it is kind of small.

So, sometimes I'm like, 'Wait, what is this?'

And then I'm not entirely focused on the rest of my surroundings.

Why can't we have both the visual and the audio?

Like, to me, it doesn't make any sense

to not have the audio part in there as well.

Have the audio and also have the visual.

I mean, there's gotta be some audio in there anyway, somehow,

with some sort of programming because how else would you have the visuals?

So, it's a problem for all of those.

All of those, you know, ways of playing, all of those systems

have zero audio when turning that feature on but mobile still has sound.

And if you don't know, the accessibility feature,

that particular feature was on mobile to begin with.

So, why did they not transfer that to PC, to console, to Switch?

So, hopefully, maybe that's just an oops in the system

and, you know, with the 100,000 updates that they do already,

maybe that can get fixed because, just based on that fact alone,

I did not want to bother with using it again.

I mean, I still will probably go back and forth just to test it out

but probably only when I'm playing Fortnite by myself

and not on stream which really is not that often.

Overall, I appreciate it, I love that it's an option

but I think that's one major thing that needs to be changed.

So, yes, fellow deaf Fortnite players,

please let me know if you've used it and let me know your thoughts on it.

I know one guy didn't buy a battle pass until this feature came on

so, obviously,

this is the power of accessibility in providing that accessibility.

You get more customers.

People need to realise that. It's a great thing.

When you make something accessible, you're gonna get more people,

whether you're offering a free service or a paid service.

And if you are a blind Fortnite player,

I'd love to know your thoughts on the accessibility feature

that they have for you all.

Obviously, it's not gonna work very well for me.

I mean, I could probably play with it just to see what it looks like

but I'm not gonna know how accessible it is.

Again, don't forget to follow me on Twitch - RikkiPoynterPlays.

I stream Sunday through Friday,

sometimes on Saturday but that's only if I'm not filming.

And before you go, if you haven't, consider being a pledge on Patreon.

You get exclusive perks like music playlists once or twice a month,

written content that you won't see anywhere else

and Pen Pals if you go up high enough.

And I will see you later. Bye.

And for what?

For being one short?

You kill a guy just for being one short?

He did his best.

He's not a professional.

Is that it?

Is that all you've got?

You fight like a theme park wedding singer performing

Yes, that just about covers it.

No, stop it.

I'm not a contestant. I'm not a contestant.

You call that an insult?

I've heard that insults from Randy Jackson's

arse some Chile night.

... It's a good thing you're so gorgeous.

You're going to Hollywood, or yes you are, you splendid thing.

How dare you hit me when I'm admiring myself.

Okay, Seacrest, the kid gloves are off.

And Cowel goes back on the offensive.

What are you going to do Simon, attack me with

more of your rapier-like wit?

That's exactly what I'm going to do.

My face...my beautiful, beautiful face.

I guess you'll never be America's Idol now.

You call that a stool leg through the brain, because it

was less than....oh wait no, it was quite effective....

I did it!

I killed him!

I've been waiting four years to say this.

Cowel out!

Oh, could you be any more obvious?

And Ryan Seacrest wins.

Seacrest killed Cowel with his stool.

Ryan Seacrest...although I'm thinking of changing it

to Lord Rumblebottom.

What do you think?

That should go over big with the flyover people.

The winner is Lord Rumblebottom.

GREEK GIRL SPEAKS RUSSIAN|| ГРЕЧАНКА РАЗГОВОРИВАЕТ НА РУССКОМ w/subs - Duration: 4:56.

Hey guys, how are you? I am Nicky

Like I promised today I will be doing

a video in russian, this will be really funny

because I don't remember how to speak in front of a camera in russian

I actually think I have never done a video in russian

I hope you enjoy, if yes like and subscribe to my channel

Anyways, I have many subs that are in the russian language faculty

So yeah, if you don't know me, hi my name is Nicky

I am 19 years old, I am at university and I am greek

I speak russian because my whole family does

and all my relatives as well

My parents studied in Moscow

So I also had to learn russian

I had no choice

When I was a kid, everyone used to speak russian, so that's it

Today, I decided to speak about series

Since I also had questions like "what series do you watch

because now I am learning Russian and I want to distract myself with series"

Well first of all, Russian is a difficult language

I understand that, I still make mistakes

but that's nothing, you can fix that

since I speak well, read, write and understand

I don't have to study grammar or anything like that

I just read books and all the unknown words or phrases

I write them down

and like that I am "learning" russian

this of course isn't very easy

because I have to read at a slow pace

But at least my level gets better

and now what series am I watching..

My favorite series is definitely "The Kitchen"

There are 6 series and two films

This series, I adore it!

It has comedy and romance, everything I like

and the actors are really funny

This is Galkin (Russian comedian)

and this is Brad Pitt. Yes, yes

And in Russian, it is the other way around

What?

This is Brad Pitt

and this is Galkin

Good day friends, today we have an interview right from the kitchen of Claude Monet

Who are you shooting, shoot me!

Anyway this story is about Max, who started working

in the best restaurant of Moscow, Claude Monet

And basically we see his life in the restaurant

what it's like to be a chef

Between the 4th and 5th season I think

There's also a film "Kitchen in Paris"

Which is an amazing movie

and then there is the 5th and 6th season and then another movie

"The last fight", I didn't like it as much

but still it is part of the Kitchen

If you want to watch a Russian series, then it is definitely this one

I am infatuated with it

Later, this is like a sequel to the Kitchen, "Hotel Eleon"

In the 5th and 6th season, the Kitchen is transferred to the Eleon hotel

and after all that, they came up with "Hotel Eleon"

Same story, but different actors

we are talking about completely different things

The first season was fantastic

the second one was okay

And the third one was horrible, I couldn't watch that

Next, Voronini

again comedy, amazing

in this series I think there are 21 seasons already

But I can't just not watch them

Just amazing, you will definitely laugh hard

The concept is about the Voronini family

and their life

And when I am anxious I want to eat even more

and when I...

Enough, I get it, you see the water is lessening

you want to eat unwashed cucumbers in the salad?

You can even give me soil, but faster

Here, eat

Kosta, I just noticed that we have a blue backround

and it blends in with my scarf

Do I have time to change it?

STAND ON YOUR PLACES!!!!

AND WE WILL TAKE THIS STUPID PHOTO

Super funny, definitely recommend

Later, something a little more

different, you might like it, you might not, I really liked it

because again it's a comedy "Svati"

In this series again I think there are 6 seasons or something like that

and the concept is about the married couple's parents

From one side Ivan and Valentina

and on the other side George and Olga and their life in general

and next for me is of course "Improvisation"

Improvisation is a tv program on TNT

It's all about stand-up and comedy

Their job is just to improvise

It's really funny because they also invite famous actors and singers

And I think that's it guys , I think I said everything

If you are learning any language, don't forget to work on it

At least watch series, this will do as well

I hope you liked this video, if yes like and subscribe

Tell me in the comments what other videos you want to see

And I'll see you on my next video

Sculpting a Table with Wings - Duration: 9:57.

today I'm building this little table with wings. Now I realized the shape of

this little table may not be to everyone's liking. Wwhen the client

described the design to me I was a little skeptical that I could even build

the thing. The shape of the top and lower shelf seemed like it would be really

hard to make exactly the same, if I were to carve them by hand. But once I

figured out an order of operations, it greatly simplified the build.

Once I milled up all the lumber I glued up the top and bottom shelf. Usually when I do a

glue up of this kind I use biscuits or dominoes to keep the pieces from

slipping while tightening the clamps. Now since these are going to get a lot of

material carved out from the center. I wanted to make sure I wouldn't expose a

misplaced domino while carving, so I took a little extra time during the glue up.

to try to keep the pieces aligned with each other. When cutting the pieces to

length I butted the two pieces together to add a little bit more

stability with the track

Once I had them cut to length, i used the temple to trace out the wing shape

on the ends of each piece then headed to the table saw to cut away the bulk of

the material

I set up a dado stack about three quarters of an inch wide. There's a lot

of material to cut away all at once. I just took small passes

I started on the outside edges and work my way towards the middle. This seemed a

little safer because if the piece wandered away from the fence during the

cut the back of the blade would most likely end up in the void I had already

cut and reduced the chance of kicking back. I slowly worked my way across the

piece and raised the blade to the final depth of cut and repeated the process.

Once I had the center waste removed, it was time to cut the lower curve. I raised

the blade to the height of the curve then sited down the blade adjusting the

angle until it matched the curve as close as I could get it. I clamped a

sacrificial fence to the table for the workpiece to ride against. I lowered the

blade and made shallow past letting the edge of the saw teeth do the

cutting.

With each pass I raise the blade about the height of the carbide of the teeth

of the saw blade. Several passes later I reach my layout line. The remaining wood

would be cleaned up at the bench with some hand tools.

Before I cut the shape of the upper curves I wanted to get rid of the

majority of the waste material so I tipped the blade roughly to the same

angle as the curve, I adjusted the fence the right distance and cut away the excess.

Then for the inner curve I did the same thing. Readjusted the angle of the blade,

the blade height, and the distance from the fence, and cut away the excess

material.

I played it safe not wanting to cut too deep on the inside cut, so there was a

ridge of excess wood I needed to remove. A chisel and mallet made quick work of

that. Once I had the edge cleaned up I turned to my hand plane to smooth out

the top to get rid of the saw marks left behind from the dado blade. In this

orientation I am planing across the grain so I stopped periodically to

sharpen the blade. More often than usual

I used a hold fast to add a little extra downward pressure when I moved on to the wings

To create the curve I took shallow passes working the plane back and forth

following the curved layout line. The closer I got to the line and curved

shape the shallower passes I took. I should also mention that I cut the piece

about an inch wider than needed so I would not have to worry about any

tear-out happening on the edges. Especially since I'm planning across the

grain tear-out is inevitable

To refine the curve and get rid of the planer marks Iused a Festool

interface sanding pad.It works great on irregular surfaces and contours to shape

the workpiece.

After finishing up sanding I moved on to ripping the legs to the widest width

I set up a stop on my miter gauge and cut them to their final length. To attach

the legs to the top and shelf I'm going to use dowel joinery so I made a quick

jig to help me center the hole on all the legs. It's a pretty simple Jig. I drilled

the hole in one of the cut-offs and used some CA glue to add a couple of fences

to register against. Then clamp it to the leg, drilled a quick hole and moved on to

the next leg

Since the legs are tapered on all four sides a standard tapering jig was not

going to work. So I cobbled together a quick jig from plywood. I marked a

centerline on the jig and on the legs so I would have something to register to

when loading the jig. Then I made the cut but half way through the cut I realized

I was going to cut into the clamp so had to shut the saw down, wait for it to stop

before removing the jig to adjust the clamps. Total rookie move!

I got my jig reset and cut the tapers on the front and back of the legs. Then

cut the tapers on the sides of the legs. I had to readjust the clamps to hold

against a front taper while I cut the taper on the sides.

son of a............ while the table saw blade winds down so I can move the clamp out

of the way, let's talk about paint. As a woodworker I hate anything that is not

the natural color of wood. I think this thing would have looked awesome in some

lace wood or a zebra wood but the client was a fan of the Smurfs cartoon growing

up so I painted it Smurfs blue for her. To prep the paint for the gun I used an

additive called floetrol. It thins the paint so it'll go through the gun but

also extends the dry time of the paint so it will level out and create a

smoother finish. I did a crosshatch pattern when painting to ensure a good

coverage. Since it'll be hard to balance the thin legs on the clamps I cut a

piece of plywood to use as a platform to clamp against. I used epoxy for the

glue up to give me plenty of working time and to get all the legs lined up in the

during installation.

I did a quick double check to be sure the legs are all lined up and then glued

the top on. When putting the top on, it took my time to be sure I wouldn't smear

glue all over the underside.

Another quick check of the legs to be sure they were lined up before clamping it

all up. Then to prevent scuffing the paint I draped a towel over the table

and then tighten down the clamps

Space Telescopes - The Planetary Post with Robert Picardo - Duration: 4:03.

I'm here on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland to

visit the Space Telescope Science Institute. This is Robert Picardo and

you're watching the Planetary Post.

So, Bob, let me welcome you to the Space

Telescope Science Institute. Thank you very much. I understand that

that the Hubble takes pictures in black and white. How do you create these

amazing color images? So this one is

made up of many images probably tens of images taken in different filters with

different exposure times layer them on top of each other to make a nice color

composite image. When you see a typical Hubble image really it's probably dozens

of images that went in to making that color image.

This is a good visualization of how we make these images.

So this is three black-and-white images of an object. You can see that

this one's bright, so there's probably a lot of red in it. The blue one is a bit

dark, so you can maybe start to guess what the color is going to be. The next step

would be to add the colors and then you stack them on top of each other and make

this lovely image of Mars and you can see that the blue areas on the

atmosphere are highlighted in the blue image. The white spot is one of the polar

caps and if you notice on your black-and-white image that's pretty

bright in each one of these images, so red green and blue all together makes white.

In July Mars will be in "opposition" explain what opposition means.

We want to observe these planets when we can see the most detail possible and that's when

they're closest to us. So if a planet is at this point in its orbit that distance

is small, but if it's way over here then that's a larger distance, so the planet

will be farther away. We get the best detail when we observe it opposition.

You know what I like most about this? Opposition normally sounds like a

negative thing if you're in "opposition" but here it's an incredibly cool thing

and a great opportunity for the Hubble. For the remaining lifetime of Hubble

we'll take images of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune once per year.

All of those images the data will be stored right here in this facility and that

will be a treasure trove of information for scientists from here on out.

For years to come hopefully these data will have

longevity that the Voyager data do. We're still using those today.

Amy you're the principal investigator of OPAL. What is OPAL?

OPAL is a Hubble observing program

where we observe each of the outer planets once every single year so that

we can monitor them long-term every single year we'll get a new view and it

turns out these planets look very different every single year.

Now there's only one Saturn as far as I know, right?

There's only one Saturn.

And here we got five of them.

So this is a montage, basically coming from Equinox

where the Rings are edge on all the way up to the southern summer solstice, so

we're essentially going from fall to summer. What we do when we're studying

the planets is because their years are so long we want to go back and look at

all the data sets we have and we actually go back and we look at Voyager

data of Saturn from 1981 or Jupiter from 1979.

You don't mean my Voyager? That was in the 24th century?

The real Voyager, okay I because I still get confused if you can believe that.

Data that's 40 years old? That's right. So the OPAL

program is picking up where Cassini and Voyager left off and we'll get these

yearly views that we'll get for the next 5-10 years but we hope they'll

still be used 40 years from now as well. Now that's return on investment folks

For the benefit of our younger viewers which apparently includes me the

difference between rotation and revolution. Is this revolution?

Yes. Okay.

it's too difficult for me to do. Technically I should be

doing this while I'm doing this right? That's only if you have retrograde rotation.

What if we're in tidally locked orbit? Then we would do this, right?

Yeah, you would be facing the whole time, I'm just in one spot.

Great okay. Tidally locked. Cool, you dance really well.
