Goddamn it, Simon,
it was about time you'd let me fucking narrate
something for your channel.
But anyway,
Hello everyone.
It's me, DEgo.
Today I'm gonna talk about
Bully: Scholarship Edition.
I know, pretty original.
But more specifically,
we're gonna look at pre-release screenshots
and compare them with the final game.
After this video is done,
you'll probably wanna ask yourself:
"Did Rockstar Games sell us an earlier, unfinished version of Bully: Scholarship Edition?"
Or is DEgo looking for more subscribers?
(Link in the description)
Anyway, let's get into this.
July 19th, 2007.
Rockstar Games announces Bully: Scholarship Edition
for the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360.
I'm not sure if they were released when
the game was announced,
but there are several beta screenshots
that are probably from somewhere around 2007.
There are a lot of differences,
but we can all agree on one thing:
They definitely look better than the final game.
These were probably taken from a period
when development was going fine,
except this one.
This feels like the entire map was just
been ported to... San Andreas, or something.
Ted seems to be really shiny, too.
Then... the game was delayed,
this wasn't really announced,
basically, Take-Two released the results for the third quarter of 2007.
It included a release schedule showing
Bully: Scholarship Edition being listed for release in 2008.
Okay, so you've read the title of the video,
and you probably want to know more about
Rockstar selling us an early version of the game.
So, let's get to it.
Here's the thing,
this port was rushed,
and rushed games usually have this problem
about the developers shipping an earlier version to the retailers.
for various reasons, like:
1. The newer build of the game might actually be
less polished.
(Lack of play-tests, optimizations, etc)
Or 2. The newer build of the game getting somehow lost
or getting corrupted,
forcing the developers to
start again from an older version.
All of these can happen when
the team of developers is under pressure
due to a strict release date,
so working conditions aren't really the best.
So, how about we compare beta screenshots
with the final game and find proof of this?
First, let's look at the final game
and let's find bugs,
then, we'll check the screenshots.
You are most likely familiar
with the fact that the cutscenes in the exclusive
Scholarship Edition's missions are glitchy.
But these do not happen to the Wii version.
But by looking at some of the screenshots,
we can tell at some point the Xbox 360 version
was closer, and/or probably the same as the Wii version.
Take a look at this screenshot.
What we want to focus on this screenshot
is that Rudy is properly sitting on the toilet,
something that only happens in the Wii version.
Next, take a look at this screenshot.
First of all you can see that,
apparently that, the controls for music class were different.
But what we want on this screenshot,
is the fact that Miss Peters is actually dancing,
something that only happens in the Wii version.
In fact, in the final version she just
stands all the time.
When it comes to bugs, this is pretty much all
we can talk about,
since there's no other screenshots that
show us things that happened or not in the final version,
so let's move on to another thing.
Let's focus on graphics.
Let's start with this:
The first thing you'll tell yourself is probably:
"Hey! This is taking place during the day, that's odd!"
Well, actually, we have much to discuss.
In the original PS2 version,
Final Showdown DOES happen during the day,
here's a comparison between day and night
on the PS2 version,
during this mission, if you're in doubt.
In the final version of Scholarship Edition,
Final Showdown's script sets the clock to 7PM,
instead of staying true to the PS2 like in that early screenshot.
What's interesting is that they forgot to change
Complete Mayhem's time to night.
So, it's like everything is taking place during the day,
and then suddenly you're fighting Gary and it's night.
GG, Rockstar.
Also, if you take a look at those metal bars next to Gary,
you'll notice that they're all solid, like they should be.
but in the final version, they're semi-transparent.
In conclusion, if you want the "best"
but definitely not perfect experience with Bully...
...well, that depends on you.
Choose the 360 if you care about graphics,
choose the Wii version if you care about bug fixes, etc.
(Although the Wii version actually has some exclusive bugs)
Or hey,
maybe you could stick with the original PS2 version,
it's all up to you.
Anyway, this is been DEgo on SimonBestia's channel,
thank you so much Simon for
letting me narrate this video,
it's been really fun.
Error 404 subtitles not found. ;)
But anyway,
I definitely recommend you to
check out the previous videos,
subscribe to me of course,
link will be in the description.
This is been DEgo,
Later!
