This week, we talk about Star Wars!
Don't we always talk about Star Wars?
Yeah but I mean, Star Wars is pretty cool.
Yeah I'll talk about Star Wars again.
This week, on The Star Wars Show!
Andi sits down with Regal Robot's Tom Spina!
We go down to the mo-cap stage to play with K2-SO!
and much, much more. Now from the Lucasfilm Headquarters its The Star Wars Show!
Hey I'm Anthony Carboni And I'm Andi Gutierrez, welcome to The Star
Wars Show a show that laughs in the face of anyone that says, "you can't make a weekly
show about Star Wars, there's not enough news or information out there."
To which we say, "HA"
HA!
If you stare them down they believe you.
through dominance.
We're going to the news.
San Diego Comic Con is less than a month away, and our friends at Gentle Giant are bringing
two exclusive 40th anniversary mini busts with them.
The first is of Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing Pilot suit from A New Hope as well as Darth
Vader…red lenses and all.
This Dexter Jettster is just her because I like Dexter Jettster.
The 1:6th scale, hand painted polyresin busts are individually numbered and come with a
certificate of authenticity by artist Brian Rood.

Marvel Comics revealed interior pages and the cover for it's upcoming Captain Phasma
mini-series.
4 high fives. We're excited!
The 4 part story, written by Kelly Thompson with art by Marco Checchetto bridges the gap
between The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi… …specifically telling us what happened
to Captain Phasma when she was sent to the trash chute!
And you can read all about it when Marvel's Captain Phasma is released this September.
Finally, in a bit of self-serving begging to a very small, very specific audience that
may or may not be watching this right now we have a plea.
Hello, Primetime Emmy voters.
I'm Anthony Carboni.
You may have seen the nomination ballots which are due this week.
And you might've also seen that The Star Wars Show is up for Outstanding Short Form
Variety Series Or that Rebels Recon is up for Outstanding
Short Form Non-Fiction or Reality Series Or that the Rogue One Red Carpet Live Stream,
and both Star Wars Celebration Live Streams from London and Orlando are all up for Outstanding
Informational series or Special.
You will nominate these programs to be nominated.
We need these nominations to validate ourselves.
Don't do this to her.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS STAR WARS CONSIDER US FOR A NOMINATIOOOOOON!!!!
Aaaaaand Scene.
But seriously for the five of you out there that can vote for us, we'd appreciate
it!
And for more breaking stories from around the galaxy, check out Star Wars.com
I can see why you're up for so many Emmy's because you are a very good performer.
It's a team effort. It felt real. To me.
Woo!
What's up?
It's us; your coolest looking friends who are feeling the most in shape right now.
We are down here in the basement of the ILM/Lucasfilm campus on the MoCap stage where they have
done some amazing visual effects for video games and movies and television and we get
to hang out down here.
Not just hang out, they're about to turn us into K2 LIVE!
Do some squats, do some lunges We are wearing suits covered with all these
markers, there are IR cameras all around the room, if 3 of them can see a single one of
these markers then they know where the marker is.
So they send all that data back to the K2 skeleton and when we move, K2 moves.
I'm walking like me but I want to walk like K2.
He had kind of like a loping thing Noooooo
It's gotta be crazy to think about actually performing K2 and being Alan on these stilts
and trying to figure out these super long arms so I know that my hands are actually
8 inches longer and I know that these legs have to move in a different way.
It's fascinating "Are you talking about me?"
Here is something that is really crazy, this is the magic mirror, this is a tool for performers
to see one to one how their character looks.
It's also kind of crazy because now I can see details of K2 that we would never see
Like three's not a lot of armpit shots of K2 but look at how his armpit works
That's nuts to me!
Mad respect to the 501st but this is a way easier way to wear a Stormtrooper kit
Sassy hands What I like about being the Stormtrooper is
that I'm actually my size pretty much Style boy
I feel like I have a career ahead of me in this
Yeah?
Yeah!
Well thank you to ILM for letting us come down and be really disrespectful with their
super cool technology.
That was probably the dumbest thing that has ever happened down here.
I think he's heading for that small moon.
That's no moon.
Hey guys, welcome my friend Tom Spina to the show.
Tom is the founder of Tom Spina Designs and Regal Robot.
You do custom builds of props and furniture and you do restoration, you do it all
Thank you!
A lot of people don't know that the masks in the cantina and the models and the puppets
for Yoda and stuff, they're built out of materials that aren't meant to last.
Can you tell me a little bit about where you come in?
Through collecting, I met all these other collectors who had different things and had
stuff that needed fixing and saw that I was making things and that it turned out I had
a knack for repairing this old material and for giving it the respect I think it deserves.
To me, these props are history, these are works of art, these are things that someone
slaved over, so yeah we've been very luck now to have really gotten a reputation as
kind of the go-to source for this.
So sympathetic and respectful restoration and conservation of these things.
We've gotten to work with the Lucasfilm archives.
Lucky!
I'll never be able to go.
Because you're only going in there if you are fixing something or you are making Star
Wars.
You've never been?
I've never been, no.
If only you knew someone that went there.
I wish I knew a guy to get in.
If I hear of anyone I'll let you know.
In addition to your recreations and your restorations, you guys do custom work.
Yes.
What goes through your mind when someone calls you on the phone and say some guy at StarWars.com
and says "I need you to take this t-shirt cannon and make it a Star Wars t-shirt cannon"
Those kind of calls go like this, mhmmm.
That's the best kind of call in the world to get, especially the t-shirt cannon because
that was just an excuse to just play.
It is a projectile launcher, you gotta watch where you point this thing.
We've got this scope, which is a real working scope!
Knobs and griebliebs and dials and tubing that's kind of like the Sandtrooper gun.
A little bit of the t-tract that they used on the Stormtrooper blasters and the lightsabers.
This is one of our prized possessions.
This was so much fun at the show.
You did good.
Your motto, philosophy is "Wouldn't it be cool?"
Yeah and its just because it literally is what we always say.
Like, you know what'd be cool, or like wouldn't it be cool like if?
It's just always something cool happens out of that.
So lets move on to your newer projects, tell me what differentness Regal Robot from Tom
Spina design?
We had long worked on this idea of taking the visual language of Star Wars and putting
it into the home.
Putting it into people's offices, doing fun, cool things that are Star Wars inspirited.
Celebration was kind of like your first big display
Yeah that was our big coming out party, it was our debut!
We still make a lot of our stuff by hand.
We're not mass-producing things overseas.
Most of our pieces are handmade by us.
Everybody loved Dewy the Dewback sofa, everybody loved the Mandalorian skulls that we had made.
So we do have some of your Mythosaur skulls here.
So I got the little guy, I've got the big guy.
So yeah one of the things we have in our license in addition to the bigger furniture stuff
is art and 3D art like sculpture and wall hangings and things like that.
This is something we know, we know the logo but we've never seen it in this form.
Right, and here is this really cool realistic interpretation of it.
Loaded with detail and to me, it's just got character.
The fissures between the plates and the bones and like all the cavities inside.
We true and keep to the anatomical side.
This is where we kind of take our affects and history and we put it into products.
So we've got both of these.
They're both now shipping.
I know quite a few Mangos t hat would be interested And if people are interested they can find
them on our website So that's RegalRobot.com?
RegalRobot.com!
Last week we wanted to know who your favorite Star Wars Dads were, and we got a staggering
amount of answers.
Like frequent commenter and YouTuber Star Wars Explained, who said his own father turned
him into a huge Star Wars nerd.
So did mine!
William Tingerthal shared his love of Chewie's LEGENDary dad Itchy, while Angel Rivers said
Chairman Papanoida…which if you think about it, is the granddaddy of all Star Wars.
(Because it's George Lucas) Abby Gleason and Nemo Knox went Rogue One,
highlighting fatherly scenes for Galen Erso and Bail Organa.
And finally, Battlefront II writer and friend of the show, Mitch Dyer said, "Anthony Skordi's
Admiral Garrick Versio, aka Janina's Dadmiral."
Love that Mitchy D. Yeah Dadmiral, that's fun. Thanks for watching and may the force be with
you. Although in the future Mitch, EA has to go through the same sponsorship channels as everybody else.
To get a mention on the show. You better pay! We know you got the cash.
How do face mites mate?
Uh.
Hey I'm Anthony Carboni and I'm Andi Gutierrez and these are my face mites.
Hi I'm Anthony Carboni, awhhhhhh
No.
Hi I'm Anthony Carboni, I'm sorry!
