in this episode of spadezilla you can expect another honest and independent
buyer's guide that calls a spade a spade this time it's in review of the bushnell
TRS 32, ok first up let's we talk about where this product even belongs in the
market what I can say is at the time of researching the TRS 32 that it was
a $99 optic give or take depending on the retailer and in my mind that
firmly places in the value category now obviously with any value product there
are going to be trade-offs the manufacturer has to cut some corners to
keep the price down and that's fine because you know we're looking for a
value product and we know there's going to be trade-offs but from your point of
view I guess the key questions are what are the trade-offs ? and are they
acceptable to you ? so hopefully this video will go a long way in assisting
you to answer these questions so that you can make the right decision for you
about this optic what we're going to do is we're going to work our way through
what the positive reviews highlight about the optic we're then going to talk
about things to consider which are not necessarily a positive or a negative but
just as through the name important things to consider in making your
decision and then we're going to talk about what the critical reviews
highlight about the TRS 32 - having done so you'll hopefully be in a much
better position to make an informed decision about this optic now we've got
quite a bit of information to get through so I'm going to try and keep the
tempo up and not dwell on any one topic for too long so that we can get through
all this material and you can make your decision about the object so without
further ado let's we talk about what the positive reviews highlight about this
optic number one is the good value for the $99 or whatever they paid for it
people are happy with the value they are receiving they appreciate that the optic
includes the mount in the box and includes a spring-loaded or
spring-loaded caps which users report has been decent so that's the first
thing number two in the positive reviews I can
say that people are impressed with the fact and this might sound like a little
bit of a strange thing to me to talk be talking about that people appreciate the
design that Bushnell has put in regards to the grooves built into the optic
which prevents the caps from sliding off and makes rotating the caps
easy now the reason people appreciate this is that in a lot of other red dots
even if they come with free caps often the free caps will slide off very easy
when you're running around such as run n gun
you know three gun type competitions whereas with this one to the credit of
bushnell you don't have to worry about the caps coming off so it's a very good
design feature in a value red dot and something I would say that a lot of
mid-tier and high-end red dots should take notice of so credit where credit is
due a lot of people do appreciate this well
thought-out design and regards to how the caps go on and stay on the optics
enough said let's we move on highlight number three
obviously optical clarity is an important consideration when buying an
optic and I can report that positive reviewers describe it as being good
optical clarity for the price point so obviously keep that in context but for
its price people are happy with the optical clarity number four obviously
holding its zero is an important consideration and I can say that
multiple positive reviewers vouch to the fact that the TRS 32 does hold its zero
number 5 you may or may not have noticed in the photos that this object has
rubber tethered caps, now people talk about this and the positive reviews and
they like the fact not only that there are tethered caps so that you don't have
to worry about losing the caps but they also like once again it this is another
good design feature that these tethers don't bind when you are unwinding or
winding up the caps now to compare this again to other red dots that I have
reviewed this is actually a very nice feature because it is
frustration and some other red dots when the tethers bind when you're unwinding
and winding up the catch so once again credit to Bushnell for this
well-thought-out design and regards to how they've done the tethers number six
and perhaps I should have been further up the list this is perhaps the primary
reason that you would consider buying the TRS 32 over other red dots and that
is the fact that it has a bigger field of view it's got the bigger tube a
secondary benefit of that that people report is the fact that it is good for
using the co witness with your iron sights if you so desire now lastly to
keep things moving along I can say that in summary having looked at all the
positive reviews the impression that you get is that people like the optic and
that they feel that it gets the job done without problems
now obviously some of the critical reviews will say that there are problems
but from the positive reviewers perspective this is what they like about
the optic they feel it gets the job done I also notice the words decent and not
bad get used a lot in the positive reviews and I feel that sort of decent
and not bad sum up this optic pretty well in the words of people who wrote
positive reviews so that's the summary of the positive reviews let's we now
move on to things to consider now first up and I sort of touched on this with
all red dots that are powered it's just thinking about what battery type does it
use are these batteries commonly available where you live and I can say
that this optic uses the cr2032 battery which is quite a common choice for a lot
of red dots so presumably it will be commonly available where you live but
nonetheless that's just one consideration to think about the second
consideration to think about and this is perhaps stating the obvious but I will
state it because some reviewers how to say they obviously doesn't think about
this before purchasing the optic and that is its size this is a bigger optic
relative to the micro red dots you are getting the bigger
field of view so it's a bigger optic being a bigger optic if it's well built
it's going to be heavier and bulkier and it is heavier and bulkier so in some
ways it's heavier weight is a good thing at the same time if you were really
wanting something small and compact then you really need to look at the Micro red
dots if you're happy with the trade-off of having a bigger and bulkier red dot
to get that bigger field of view then all is good but that's just one
consideration to think about I can say that some people purchased it without
thinking that fully through number three obviously the brightness for the
illumination of the red dot is an important consideration depending on
what sort of use you're going to be using this object for I can say that
sort of paraphrasing from different reviews the impression I get is that
people feel that the brightness settings are sufficient for a bright day but
perhaps could do it a bit more, now I could elaborate on that further but you
know hopefully that sentence sums it up pretty well for you
number four under things to consider for those of you who you know keen to know
where the optic is manufactured as best I can tell it is made in Korea I'm
saying that because I didn't see any literature saying specifically where it
was made and the reason I'm assuming Korea is because it has aw Korea written
on the optic I don't actually know what aw stands for so if any of you know I'd
be curious to find out perhaps you could say in the comments below
let's we've move on as time is a ticking number 5 under things to
consider I notice there's a lot of confusion about what warranty you get
with this optic, some people thought it was 1 year 2 year and even lifetime some
people suggesting that at depends which country you are in
so to avoid you getting caught up on all this confusion and looking at the
reviews I did a little bit of research and what I can say is that on the
bushnell website at actually states in regards to warranties
and I quote "no questions asked lifetime warranty effective January 1st
2016" so my understanding and my assumption from that is that's what you
get going forward I think the confusion you'll see if you're doing your own
research into the reviews probably predates this change or perhaps is you
know people buying some products that have some of the older warranty
literature in the box causing some confusion but as
best I can tell that's what you get going forward
number six under things to consider why would you buy the TRS 32 in comparison
to its more well-known a little brother the TRS 25 sorry I'm getting tongue-tied
now the primary reason here is the TRS 32 firstly has the bigger field of
view secondly it has the bigger red dot it's got a five MOA red dot as
opposed to the 3 MOA red dot in it's little brother the TRS 25 now what's the
pros and cons here, having the bigger red dot and having the bigger field of view
is an advantage for short-range speed shooting type applications if you're
going to be doing quick target transitions speed shooting all these
sorts of things this is what the TRS 32 is really geared up for it it's well
suited to use on a carbine where short range speed shooting is going to be your
primary thing and where speed is your number one objective, the trade off as
there always is is that the bigger dot is not as good for longer range shooting
or more precision type shooting for those applications it's more
advantageous to have a smaller dot so in this regard it's little brother the TRS
25 sort of goes for the middle ground, it's gone for the three MOA dot, it's
also got a smaller field of view in comparison to the TRS 32 so that's your
consideration are you more interested in speed or are you more
seeing sort of a jack-of-all-trades that is taking the middle ground as per the
TRS 25, I'll leave that with you hopefully that kind of gives you the key
points as to what to you know you'd be thinking about in making the comparison
between the two optics, lastly because I really want to get moving on to the
critical reviews so that we can get this wound up for you, image quality if you're
not already aware it usually goes with the territory with value red dots that
you get a noticeable greenish bluish tint when looking through the tube now
as to whether it's greenish or bluish depends on who's writing the review it
just seems all our eyes are different and people report it differently now as
mentioned it's typical for a value red dot to have a strong or noticeable green
tinge and I can say that the majority of reviewers describe it as being and I'll
quote "noticeable" but most of them describe it as being sufficient adequate
or within their expectations, jumping ahead a little bit I can say in the
critical reviews, people giving criticism and regards to the greenish
bush will tend to describe it as being strong so if at all possible to have a
look through one before you purchase it then that would be ideal alternatively
just make sure you buy it from a retailer with a good return policy so
you can get it check it out make sure it's acceptable to you and return it if
it's not but I can say the majority of people it meets their expectations and
it is noticeable as they were expecting so there you have it critical reviews
let's we get through this so that we can wrap things up for you and you can make
a decision first up under critical reviews the
people talked about the fact that this optic could have better light gathering
now this is slightly ironic by the way because then one of the sales pitches
with one of the retailers when they were describing the fact that this optic is
multi coated they described it as delivering the ultimate confidence boost
in low-light now as always you know sales pitches are there to sell the
optic what I can say is the reviews don't really live up to that and it
would seem that in low-light situations that could could do better now this is
not altogether surprising it is a value red dot so you really wouldn't expect it
to be super in that category but I pass it on to you so that you can have a
realistic picture of its strengths and weaknesses moving on number two the
other thing that the critical reviews talked about a lot and I'm going to say
this is kind of the key consideration that could put you off this optic, it may
not matter to you but if there's one thing that's going to put you off this
optic this would be it and that is that a lot of critical reviewers describe the
battery life as sucking now this is not my word this is straight from the
critical reviews there's a lot of emphasis that you must must must keep a
spare battery at hand you must remember to turn the optic off otherwise you can
expect it to be flat the next time you pick it up now a lot of criticism a lot
of colorful language from people who are not particularly impressed with the
battery life I went looking to the official specifications on what you can
expect from this optic the interesting thing is I couldn't actually find any
official specifications now this is unusual because usually every red dot
that I've reviewed previously at least there are official specs what my
assumption is and I looked on the bushnell website I looked in the user
manual all these sorts of places I didn't find anything and once again if
you know what the official battery life specs are please do let me know my
presumption is they just deliberately haven't published it probably because
it's nothing flash and nothing to boast about and going by the critical reviews
I think that's probably a fair suggestion to make so obviously as
mentioned this is not going to phase some people some people say okay I can
buy cr2032 batteries in bulk really cheap I really don't mind swapping them
out from time if that's your situation and you
don't mind then you know all is good where it is going to put some
restrictions those on the potential uses for the application and I'll sort of come
back to that a little bit later but there you have it that's perhaps if you're
looking for one thing to put you off the optic that probably would be it let's
we move on to quality control there are some reports from some critical
reviewers of noticing a faint second red dot or starburst effect when tuning the
brightness setting above setting number five and some other miscellaneous
quality control issues now what I can say is every red dot I have reviewed you
do get these sort of comments coming up I didn't notice on this one that it was
of a level higher than with other red dots and once again this is just where
it's important that you're buying an optic with a warranty or from a retailer
with a good returns policy when you get the optic check it over thoroughly work
through these different points that was talked about make sure you don't have a
second red dot starburst effect any of these issues while you're still within
the return period so it's more so that you're aware of it so you can check for
it but these are perhaps not things that by themselves would put you off from
buying the optic, let's we talked about suggested applications and this is where
the battery life sort of comes back to haunt the optic I'm going to suggest
that this optic is well suited for applications one through to four but I'm
going to exclude home defense law enforcement and military use now a
military use as always that's an easy one to exclude it is a value red dot
it's not intended for military use and military-style abuse in regards to home
defense and law enforcement you could argue that you could push this optic
into use in those applications and you could argue that point very well I will
concede that what I'm trying to say is I don't think the optic is ideally suited
to those applications because of its battery life, for home defense law
enforcement these are sort of more serious type applications and in my mind
you want to know that it's good to go when you need it and I personally
wouldn't want to have any niggling doubts about how much battery life is
left in the optic, that completes this buyer's guide and review the bushnell
TRS 32 I do sincerely hope this video has been of some assistance to you in
making an informed decision if you are interested in the optic i have included
the major retailer links in the description below aside from that a
thumbs up is always appreciated if you feel it warranted it does help the
channel to grow as well, thank you for watching and hope to see you next time
cheers
