Dive Conditions Report For Caloundra 7 June 2017 Sunshine Coast Queensland Australia #ScubaDive - Duration: 3:26.

Hey people of the interwebs it is Q bringing you your dive conditions

midweek report. I know last week I said that things were starting to look good,

but this week they really are. If the Pumicestone Passage waters look this

clean, then things are definitely on the up-and-up.

The good news is, I would say there is enough visibility in the Pumicestone

Passage for a drift dive and also the tide times are in your favor for both

Saturday and Sunday morning, if you want to get a drift dive in The Passage.

Absolutely perfect winter weather here as we overlook Kings Beach and I know I

said it last week but I'll say it again, I can see structure through the water,

there are definitely variations from the sand to the rocks and the coral

structure, so that is good news. Currently experiencing a gentle

southwester and both Saturday and Sunday mornings the wind will still be

generally from the South, although it is expected to pick up as we head towards

the weekend and then ease off into Saturday and Sunday. Taking a closer look

at the water on Kings Beach boat ramp and again confirming that there's

probably around about 2 to 3 meters visibility at the moment and fingers

crossed that it's going to stay that way for the weekend. However showers are

possible on Saturday, but they're more likely to happen on Sunday, if they're

going to happen at all. Almost perfect winter dive conditions at Shelly Beach.

Lots of structure seen through the

water, so the visibility is there. Again I would estimate if you went in today

about 4 meters of vis and with the current wind direction there are of

course very small waves breaking onto the beach area. So all things being equal

so far this is my number one pick for a dive this Saturday or Sunday morning.

This bird's eye view down onto The Keyhole dive site has brought a smile to

my face. Even though we're just slightly away from low tide, it is looking great.

Lots of visibility, lots of structure to be seen and again confirms that we

should have around about 4 meters of visibility, at a minimum, if you went in

today. The perfect dave conditions continue as we take a look at Moffat

Beach. Lots of structure to be seen, nice calm

flat surface and easy entry and exit. And again confirming around about four

meters of minimum visibility if you went in today. Your tide times for this weekend,

Saturday we have a high at 8:22 am and a low at 2:16 pm. Sunday we have a high

at 8:58 am and a low at 2:49 pm. And we're expecting the swell to be around

about the 2.5 to 3 meter mark on Saturday morning, dropping down to 2

meters by Sunday morning. So in summary, I think there's a great possibility of the

shore diving sites around Calandra being wide open for scuba diving this weekend

coming and of course we are heading into winter so we're onto that beautiful

crystal-clear water that we always get at this time of the year. If you found

If you look up English pronunciation videos

you will find that some coaches talk about

the "light" /L/ and the "dark" /L/

and in some videos, there are quite complicated explanations on how we pronounce the "dark" /L/.

In my opinion, if you are a beginner at English pronunciation

then you should focus on being intelligible

so that foreigners will understand you,

even if your pronunciation is not perfect.

So in this case, you can forget about "light" /L /and "dark" /L/,

just practice the /L/ sound so that you are not saying an /ʊ/ or /ɔ/ vowel sound instead.

Even if you pronounce the light /L/ and the dark /L/ the same way,

native speakers will understand you perfectly, don't worry.

If you think your English pronunciation is actually quite good and you want to sound

more like native speakers,

then here is a simple explanation to the "light" and "dark" L:

The "light" L is the /L/ sound we say at the beginning of words (like "listen")

and before vowels (like "chilling")

while the "dark" /L/ is

the /L/ sound we say at the end of words

(like "chill" or "table")

and before consonants (like "chilled").

To put it simply, the main difference between the "dark" and the "light" /L/ sounds

is that when we say the dark /L/

we pull the whole tongue further back in our mouth

(without changing the shape of the tongue)

and during this pulling back we say a very tiny /ə/ sound

before the /L/ sound. So we will say "chill" as /tʃɪəl/

and "table" as /teɪbəl/.

So the light /L/ sounds like this:

while the dark /L/ sounds like this:

When you practice the dark /L/

first it may feel somewhat uncomfortable if you are doing it right

because it feels as if you were swallowing your tongue

and you might have a little gagging reflex

as the back of yourtongue moves closer to your throat.

Hi! My name is James, and I'm here making another

PPEI Community Champion video; and if you don't know what those words mean,

there'll be a link below this video. Now I'm here with Jeremiah: Tell us, - Hey!

- Why have you been chosen as a community champion?

Well, I run something called "Of Dice and Men", it's sort of like a role playing community, almost.

I go through, I run sessions with people... I've met - I've introduced several people to other people, and

sessions grow and with that: today we had our first community event.

where we're actually organizing almost like a tournament between different groups,

and people who have never met before. They meet,

and they go through, they play the game together, and by the end of the day we'll have some resolutions,

some plot development, and maybe even some character development.

Ah, great! I think what's really interesting for me about the role-playing fit, for my role at DEN,

is decision-making and how you can see the effect of the decisions that you've made - - Yes.

- But you don't have to wait a lifetime or wait a number of months until you get that.

It's all combined, compressed into this short, shared experience.

Like, at the moment, I've created my own world, so everything that happens has a reaction in the world,

So I can have one group working off on, you know, a distant continent called "Fim",

and they've done something over there: You know, it doesn't seem to have much of a reaction to them,

yet across the world on a different content of "Esmine", because of that

small little interaction over here this city is now dealing with an economic

downfall, and due to that, it influences all of the cities nearby.

And that's actually something that's currently happening, due to some rather... er... unexpected events. -Cool!

I mean that sounds... there's just so much that you could explore with it,

it's like, decision making, there's... I guess you could even include, like, the effects of potions and things -

- Yeah - Other drug like substances...

-Yes. There are, and not all of them... most of them aren't good. -Oh, right?

I've had a few people make some rather regrettable decisions, and then realised afterwards

just the effect of what they've done, and how it's impacted on not just them, but the rest of their party as well.

Yeah! Would it be fair to say that people can break out of their everyday character?

Definitely. - And, perhaps, this would be developing their confidence, or

working out their social anxiety, that sort of thing? - For sure.

I've had several people who have joined the groups, and they've been the most quiet spoken people I've ever seen

Give them, you know, a couple of months of doing this, and they're turning around,

they're voicing their boisterous orc as they lead the charge on this giant gollum.

And it's something that you'd never expect, just from meeting them on the street.

They're still fairly quiet people but they've got that confidence, they've made friends,

they've got that extra boost that they needed. It really helps just unlock that door so you

can move past. - Sure. Well that sounds fantastic. I think we're going to have a struggle

to fit anymore on this video, but any interest in making some more? - Definitely.

I have grouped the words based on whether they are pronounced with a light /L/ or a dark /L/

but as I said, if you are a beginner or pre-intermediate speaker,

you can say the /L/ the same way in all of the example words

and native speakers will understand you without a problem:

Light /L/ at the beginning of words:

Light /L/ before a vowel:

Dark /L/ before a consonant:

Dark /L/ at the end of words, after a vowel:

Notice that we do not pronounce the "or" part in "comfortable"

and the end is /əbəl/ not /eɪbəl/:

so it's NOT /kʌmfɔrteɪbəl/, it's "comfortable".

Also, notice that we don't pronounce the "c"

in "muscle"

so it's NOT /mʌskl/, it's "muscle".

Pause this video and practice saying these words with the correct /L/ sound.

You only need the tongue to make the /L/ sound:

curl it up and touch the roof

or your upper teeth, nothing else.

No rounding of the lips. /L/ - /L/

If you are an advanced learner and are practicing the dark /L/

then remember to pull the tongue back towards your throat.

Use a mirror to check that you are NOT rounding your lips and NOT dropping your jaw.
