If you look up English pronunciation videos
you will find that some coaches talk about
the "light" /L/ and the "dark" /L/
and in some videos, there are quite complicated explanations on how we pronounce the "dark" /L/.
In my opinion, if you are a beginner at English pronunciation
then you should focus on being intelligible
so that foreigners will understand you,
even if your pronunciation is not perfect.
So in this case, you can forget about "light" /L /and "dark" /L/,
just practice the /L/ sound so that you are not saying an /ʊ/ or /ɔ/ vowel sound instead.
Even if you pronounce the light /L/ and the dark /L/ the same way,
native speakers will understand you perfectly, don't worry.
If you think your English pronunciation is actually quite good and you want to sound
more like native speakers,
then here is a simple explanation to the "light" and "dark" L:
The "light" L is the /L/ sound we say at the beginning of words (like "listen")
and before vowels (like "chilling")
while the "dark" /L/ is
the /L/ sound we say at the end of words
(like "chill" or "table")
and before consonants (like "chilled").
To put it simply, the main difference between the "dark" and the "light" /L/ sounds
is that when we say the dark /L/
we pull the whole tongue further back in our mouth
(without changing the shape of the tongue)
and during this pulling back we say a very tiny /ə/ sound
before the /L/ sound. So we will say "chill" as /tʃɪəl/
and "table" as /teɪbəl/.
So the light /L/ sounds like this:

When you practice the dark /L/
first it may feel somewhat uncomfortable if you are doing it right
because it feels as if you were swallowing your tongue
and you might have a little gagging reflex

I have grouped the words based on whether they are pronounced with a light /L/ or a dark /L/

YouTube VS Horror Channels : How Bad Is It? Let's Find Out! - Duration: 11:40.
Lately, the question has come up quite frequent about How YouTube is treating Horror Channels
like mine.
Honestly, before I never really saw to much reason to talk about that matter.
But times and most importantly, YouTube has changed over the last month in such a way,
that I feel I have to talk about it.
And in this video I want to take the chance to do so.
We will take a look at some great YouTube channels, compare, and see how YouTube in
general is handling creepy entertainment.
It is quite ironic that exactly 1 month ago, I was creating a video about my channel Frostmare
and how happy i am that things are going so well.
Little did I know, that about 3 days later all of this was about to change drastically.
And I wanted to wait at least another month before I come to any kind of conclusion.
But today marks the day where I have decided to create this video, maybe to rise some awareness,
or at least get if off of my chest, so that you guys understand of how I feel about this
whole situation.
i am sure you guys heard about the advertiser boycott that took place a couple of month
ago.. and this meant for a lot of channels that they could not go any further the way
there were doing things.. especially if they were full time YouTubers.
I was not really concerned about the YouTube Ad revenue in the first place, and was rather
pleased that many people could enjoy my content.
But on May the 9th - YouTube dropped a big brick onto Frostmare.
Seemingly over night and without any reason, the YouTube algorithm decided that my channel
is no further interesting enough, to offer my videos to a broad audience any longer,
and therefore I lost about 45% of my channel views within 24 hours.
As You can see on the graph, it only got worse from there.
At this point i have lost over 75-80 % of my daily views, that my channel had each and
every day before.
Instead of 4000 - 12000 people who were watching my 100 + videos on my channel hourly, there
are now only around 800 people who are watching my videos an hour.. of course also spread
across my whole video library.
I did a little bit of digging on reddit, and found out that also other channels where experiencing
a similar phenomena.
But the big hit took place on May the 16th.
This is, when YouTube decided to secretly insert soft monetisation into their ad sense
program.
Now this change resulted in the fact, that almost 90% of my channel videos, are now playing
0 ads when ever they get clicked, although they are still all monetized.
YouTube now basically says that there is no room anymore for specific topics, therefore
Horror Channels like mine now barely receive any ads anymore.
Which is odd, because in almost all of my videos I am not using any kind of profane
language, nor am I showing any violent or obscene material.
Given, my creepy clips and ghost stories may seem a bit disturbing.. but I don't see why
they would harm any one in such a way like a video about a slasher horror movie would
for example.
And of course i only say that out of my perspective..
I found out that on reddit other users as well were experiencing the same issues.
Here it was a channel who was showing GTA 5 material, that also got soft demonetized.
So I think this proofs that if for Youtube there is the slightest chance, that we as
a creator could show sensitive material, they put a hold on those videos.. without us creators
even being aware of it of why our channel is dropping all of a sudden.
I want to show you an example on one of my latest videos about Pennywise.
All I do in this video is to talk about different scenes out of the IT novel, without using
any profane language nor do I talk about sensitive topics.
On the right side you can see my statistic by my YouTube addOn called TubeBuddy.
If we take a look at the estimated earnings, we see that TubeBuddy suggests that we made
about 24.9 $ with the 16.600 views we acquired over a couple of days.
I must say, that sounds more than delightful.. right ? But this number never is quite right.
On the bottom we see that we have a suggested minimum amount that the videos has earned,
as well as a maximum amount, if let's say everyone who was watching the video would
sit through the ad in the beginning.
given of course the fact that ads were displayed on this video at all.
We also have 14 Tags that YouTube can use for SEO and 9 of our video tags rank.
Not to bad.
But only 3 out of 19 possible videos get suggested of mine.
That of course is not to great, and one part of the problem, that YouTube has changed their
algorithm to last month.
Now let's see how much we really made with it.
We made exactly 3.50 $. Wow.. what can you say to that.
On second look we might notice that over 2 $ even were contributed by YouTube Red users,
meaning that their pre paid budget was paying us those 2$.
It was 1.45$ that me made out of 16.600 views with ads on YouTube.
I wonder if it can get any more dark ? As of now 18 people are watching this video hourly.
And this is one of my better videos right now.
Here is an overall overview of my channel statistics right now.. you see that everything
pretty much tanked.
Watch time, views and of course the good old revenue.
I had this little peak here when I was live streaming last week and I received a 10 $ donation
in chat if you wonder.
Pheew.. think about it.
I am creating weekly videos for you guys and I was more than happy with what I could create,
even in harder times when all that ad crises stuff happened to Youtube.. but now the platform
almost took every insentive for us horror creators.
And I find this is just not fair.
What I want to do now is to show you, how Youtube is playing ads on different topics.
Besides my own channel, I want to show you how the website handles the ad distribution
of some of my favorite Creepy and also Entertaining channels.
I am using a new YouTube account, which does not have any association to any of the shown
channels, nor is my IP address right now linked to my channel.
So let's look up Frostmare and click through teh video library, one by one, until we receive
an ad.
So we see that out of all the videos i just clicked received 0 ads..
0.
I knew it was bad bud i had no idea it was that bad.
So that leaves us with a great start right there.
Now let's check out one of my favorite creepy channels .. Chills.
He creates goosebumpy content every week and you would think that someone with over 300.000
subscribers might get a bit more love from youtube than someone with only 35.
Let's check it out.
That's even more surprising..
Chills also received 0 ads at 8.19 pm in the evening.
I don't know if that is really how it should be to be honest.
We deliver creepy stories and videos.. nothing more.
And all that hard work doesn't seem to be important anymore to Youtube as of now.
But Chills also has another Big channel called Top 15, which also based around creepy mysteries
and stories.
He has over 1.5 million subs on that one..
maybe now we finally see some ads.
I guess you see what's going on.
nothing.
But what about one of the Fathers of Creepypasta on Youtube ? Mr Nightmare himself.
He certainly must receive ads with over 2,4 million subs.
Oh there we go.. we got 1 ad!
Finally.
Alright so in conclusion.. a creepy channel with 2,4 millions subscribers was worthy enough
of 1 ad.
I find we can clearly see a pattern here.
Okay for a fair comparison.. let's heck out theradbrad.
A gaming channel with 7 mill subs..
I used to watch that dude all the time back in the day.
Alright so he got way more lucky than our horror channels it seems.. but i see why gaming
is more in favor of youtube's ad money.
As a final test, let's see how Boogie is doing.
i love this man and believe he is one of the best Youtuber's out there.

Boggie as well seems to receive way more love from Youtube than any of our channels.
Well, I guess there is not much left to say but that we are in a very difficult time right
now.
My subscribers also dropped around 80% per day, since Youtube won't suggest my channel
any more to potential viewers.

But not really getting any attention anymore right now just hurts as is a bit frustrating.
But we'll see what time brings.

in Youtube world things are not the way they are supposed to be right now.

Now some of you probably have said something like /tʃɪu:/

I just curl and push my tongue up without any movement of the lips or jaw.
