Hello Guys!
Firstly, I apologize for being inactive for a while.
And now let's talk about the iPhones.
Apple unveiled its first iPhone back in 2007 and this year marks the 10th Anniversary of
the iPhone and so everyone knows apple will be doing something special this year.
And to no one's surprise apple has announced the date of the September Apple Event, when
new iPhones will be announced, its 12th of September!
While the iPhone 7s and 7s plus will be the regular updates to 7 and 7 plus, what interests
me the most is the iPhone 8 or iPhone Edition, as it will be officially known as.
So let's compile a list of all the rumours and talk about them.
But first!
This is Amey and you're watching Sublime IO.
Before we go ahead, I'd like to say that all the things that I'll talk about in this
video are mostly rumours and speculation.
And the end result might end up varying a little.
Okay, so that out of the way, lets dive into it.
So 2017 is the year when major players in the smartphone game are moving towards bezel-less
displays and dual camera on a larger scale.
We've seen this with Samsung Galaxy S8, the new Note 8, and also LG's top of the
line V30.
And hence I come to my first rumour about iPhone Edition, the Design.
An Edge to Edge almost bezel less display.
That, is going to be the most significant change in iPhone till date.
The screen will be an OLED display.
For my non techy viewers, all you need to know about OLED is that it's a far superior
technology than the traditional LCD, since it requires no backlight individual pixel
will emit its own light and generate its own colour, giving deeper blacks, thereby giving
more contrast.
OLED display consumes less battery at times.
The aspect ratio of the screen will be 18:9, or 2:1 for all the math nerds, but what this
means is that now you will be able to view more content at the same time.
The screen will be covered in Gorilla Glass 5.This time the back will be glass too And
the sides will be made out of Stainless steel, like the iPhone 4 back in the day, but this
time a glass back indicates that wireless charging is finally coming to the iPhone.
Also an edge to edge screen means there will be no home button on the iPhone edition.
First time in the iPhone history.
Now since the home button is gone, fingerprint sensor is also gone.
Apple is replacing the Touch ID with Pearl ID, a 3D facial recognition, apparently, it
is supposed to be blazing fast, super accurate and more secure.
It is also said that this technology is at least 2 years ahead from any other company
offering facial recognition.
With no home button, one might wonder how will one go to the home screen or open the
app switcher?
It is speculated that there will be virtual home button area and gestures to do that and
there will be a dock like the one in iPad with iOS 11, it'll hide itself when any
app is open and appear when one swipes up from the bottom of the screen.
Tap to wake up could be one of the features in iPhone Edition.
Again with the Home button gone, there is no need for that huge bottom chin.
And because of the near bezel less design the iPhone edition will come with a lager
screen that the iPhone 7 plus but in a smaller over all body.
So imagine holding an iPhone with almost the size of an iPhone 7 but with a screen bigger
than iPhone 7 Plus's
Another major change in the design will the camera orientation on the back.
The dual camera setup, this time, will be vertical rather than horizontal.
Now this is just my thought that this might be done because normally people will shoot
videos in landscape mode, and that this camera orientation might be better for landscape
videos, now, this is just me speculating things, and the actual reason might totally be different,
like the internal space or something like that.
Last change with design will be the longer power button.
Another, change might be regarding the refresh rates, Apple might incorporate iPad's
ProMotion technology in the new iPhone Edition giving it a refresh rate of 120Hz.
So the animations and motions on the screen will be smoother, a lot smoother.
This will also help in the battery life since this technology is actually dynamic in nature
meaning, the refresh rates can be changed with respect to what's being displayed on screen,
say if there is no animation going on, there is no need for the screen to refresh 120 times
in one second then it will slow the refresh rate down.
When watching a movie, the refresh rate will dial down to 24Hz, when playing a youtube
video the refresh rate can jump to 30 or 60Hz, and so on.
Hence saving the battery.
This new iPhone will have a new processor called the A11 chip, based on 10nm process,
if you've seen my previous video you'd know that smaller the manufacturing process,
faster and battery efficient is the chip.
To give you a perspective, the current A10 Fusion chip in iPhone 7 is based on 16nm process.
This basically means the iPhone Edition will be 60% more battery efficient and faster.
Talking of improvements, there will be an improved water resistance, from previous IP67
to IP68.
It is speculated that with an OLED screen the iPhone Edition will also have an Always
On Display.
Finally the price, the baseline 64GB iPhone Edition will be for $999 which is CRAZY.
Cause that roughly translates to ₹64K.
But if you know last year's high end iPhone 7Plus 128GB model was retail for ₹76K and
I have also seen prices as high as ₹85K for the 256GB model.
That is all because of the import tax and other such taxes, here in India.
If I have to guess the price for upcoming iPhone Edition, I'd say that
keeping in mind the new GST system and Make In India Campaign's Apple factory, don't
expect a price less than 90K rupees for the baseline model of this beast.
The 256GB model will be priced way beyond this.
So that's all for the rumours, now we'll just have to wait and see which of these turn
out to be true on 12th September.
I will make a video about iPhone Edition after the official announcement, and I might also
make one about all the other products that apple announces in the event.
Also the link for the live event will be in the description of this video, it will start
at 10AM PDT or if you're in India that means 10:30 PM on the coming Tuesday.
