boy am I feeling brave right now! I'm going to try not to talk too loud because
Finley is asleep but this is miss Finley Eloise.
she is a week and a half old. born on August 24th. I just wanted her... well
she's asleep but I wanted you guys to meet her. Isn't she precious? I may be a
little biased. hey guys! Shawn here for not a maternity update but for you to meet
my newest addition to our family miss Finley Eloise.
she is a week and a half old. thank you so much for your patience and me not
being able to post any videos for the past two weeks because she arrived... thank
goodness at 39 almost... she was full-term at 39 weeks couple days early from her
due date. so if you are interested in hearing her birth story then keep
watching. and if not that's okay too. hey guys so I thought I would hop on
here those of you who are on my Facebook group prayerlights know that miss
Finley here arrived August 24th and I haven't been able to post any videos since
she arrived so first chance in front of the camera and my hair is a little
crazy. I have curly hair. anyone else experience curly hair after childbirth?
oh my goodness I've never had curly hair in my life so I've got my curly hair
pulled up and I actually put on mascara, a little concealer. basically this
is the best I've looked in the past 2 weeks. she's a week and half old two
and a half weeks old by the time you guys see this. so I just wanted to
share a little bit I won't go into too graphic of detail but if you're not
comfortable hearing birth stories then this might not be the video for you.
I went into labor around 3:30 in the morning on
the 24th. which is funny because I went into labor with my son at the same time. but I
was going to kind of hang out in bed. I was told not to head to the hospital until
the contractions were about five minutes apart and they were about 20 minutes
apart so I just kind of hung out in bed till about 4:30 and then got up
to go to the bathroom and something unusual happened. I won't go into too much detail
but it caused me alarm. so I woke up my husband and my son and my son flew out
of bed. he got up so fast. I was so proud of him for getting ready because it was
a school day and he was all excited that she was
going to come. so we got in the car. we already had her hospital bag packed and
we drove to the hospital. and when I got there they did an exam. what I was
concerned about they were not as concerned about. but they said I was three
centimeters dilated by the time I got to the hospital. so they said we'll just
wait and see how it progresses. so I think we were there at least an hour
maybe two in like not a birthing room and uh Oh what is it called triage..
triage room maybe or something. I don't know and things really hadn't progressed
any so they said they would transfer me to a birthing room and we were
definitely going to have the baby today but I might need some pitocin which I was not
happy about because I have heard horror stories about pitocin and how bad the
contractions can get. guys I was recording and wasn't recording. I was
talking but nothing was recording so I'm not quite sure where I stopped my
story. so we're in the birthing room and I waited. they gave me pitocin and I
waited until my pain level was an eight before I requested my epidura.l and the
anestiologist came in and administered the epidural. which you kind of lean
forward and my husband was in front of me and he was kind of holding on to me.
you're not supposed to tense up... I don't know how that's possible when you know
there's a needle coming into your back. and anestisilogist put it in the first time and it
caused a reflex so my whole body jumped kind of like when you...
when the doctor hits your knee and your leg jump s.so he said if he left it that
way he'd probably be back in an hour. anyways to remove it over because it
would only numb half the side of my body. so he redid it again and
epidural was wonderful. the epidural was wonderful. contractions got a whole lot
easier. I could still feel pressure of them building but it wasn't painful.
however a catheter is no fun. I do not I mean I guess nobody likes getting a
catheter but that was the first time I think I've ever gotten a catheter and ...
too much information here so don't listen to this part if you don't want too much
information but I had to pee the whole time. which it's not fun so
there's that. so I was in pre labor for about ten hours starting
at 3:30 on. so the doctors finally around probably around like 11:45 or 11:30 they
broke my water because I hadn't really progressed. I was like a six or a
seven so they'd broke my water which was another
interesting fun experience. it sounds like a water balloon bursting and feels
like someone tossed a water balloon at you. and then when that happened I moved
up to ten centimeters dilated and active contractions started and labor started.
and miss Findlay was born eleven minutes later. so I'm thankful I only had to push
for eleven minutes but with an epidural you feel all the pushing. it does not
numb that. it numbs the contractions but when it's time to push it felt just as
painful as when I had my son and did not have an epidural. I pushed for an hour
with him. thankfully I only pushed for 11 minutes
with her so she was born at 2:01 p.m. on the 24th and my husband was in the room.
funny story while I'm pushing here in this ten or eleven minutes the
doctor and the nurses start talking about another patient and another
patients baby and start laughing not at the patient but evidently something
funny had happened I couldn't follow the conversation but something
funny so they were discussing and laughing at it and the whole time.
I'm like um I'm having a baby here so I just kind of let them know so okay another contraction
is coming. I'm going to push now. so they let me push whenever I want to
push which was really nice. with my son they told me when to push and when to
stop. I liked having that freedom but I was like what are you guys
discussing in the middle? I guess it was good because to them it
was just routine. but when she was born the umbilical cord was wrapped all
around her body not just her neck. I think it was like wrapped twice around her
neck and all around her body but they weren't concerned about it. they
unwrapped her quickly. they asked my husband if he wanted to cut the cord. He
was like no who wants to do that. I don't want to cut the cord. so they also do a
new thing now where they immediately lay the baby on the mother after... I think they may
have suctioned out her mouth or I don't know they did that they immediately laid her
on me and she evidently pooped when she was coming out, she pooped when they laid
her on me, and then 30 minutes later she pooped again. so she had three poops
before they actually weighed her. I think they weighed her like an hour
after she was born. they finally took her back and they weighed her and measured
her and all that. up until that time like she laid on me which was really nice.
I poured tears. Ricky and I... he won't say he'll claim he didn't pour tears but he
was crying too. we poured tears. so my camera on my iPhone might shut down
here shortly but anyways ... so where was I?
they laid her on top of me. oh they weighed her and stuff. she weighed six pounds 15
ounces but that was after three poops so I'm thinking she was a seven pound baby.
and how long was she? 19 something isn't it awful but then it's just a blur. we
were in the hospital for two days afterwards which was long. they no longer
take the baby back to a nursery so they're with you the whole time. so I
didn't get any rest. I literally got thirty...
thirty minutes and that wasn't even a 30-minute time chunk that was like ten
minutes here here and there in 48 hours.
between people waking me up coming to into the hospital room to check on
either myself or Finlay and just for the fact that I didn't want to put her down.
they had like a little bassinet I could have put her in but it was either myself
or Ricky holding her. I just was in awe. the first 24 hours was like an
adrenaline thing. I just couldn't stop looking at her and being so happy. they
also try and have you breastfeed immediately which was good. so even
though you don't have milk that comes out... is just colostrum so that was good.
painful painful painful but good. and Ethan when he first met Finley he was
so in awe. he came in he was so happy he watched them as they checked her out. my
sister came and stayed with him in the waiting room I think and then as soon as
they went to back to weigh her and stuff for the first time and check her out
make sure she was good he watched that whole procedure and that process and was
just in awe. and he held her the once and he hasn't held her since I think it's
because he's scared because she can't hold her head up and he's scared that
he'll accidentally break her or something. but he gives her kisses every
night and every chance he sees her and he talks to her and he watches her in
the swing. he also doesn't like to wash his hands so I've told him he is not
allowed to touch her unless he washes his hands first. so anyway that is her
birth story and we are so thankful to have her. and I'm not taking her out of
the house for a month. the doctor said not to have her out and about for a month.
kind of scared me because he said that if she gets sick then she has to be
hospitalized immediately and they do something like a spinal tap.
well so ever since I have been home every dream, every time I've dreamed I
have like this and anxiety something was going to happen. okay
she has gas a lot of gas that wakes her up.
I call her snuggle bug but anyways thanks for watching. I also want to say
thanks to my mother and my sister. my sister for coming at 4:30 in the morning
to watch Ethan during all this and my mom for also immediately getting in the
car at 4:30 in the morning and driving here. she had about a two-and-a-half hour
drive and then she stayed with us for a week and helped us take care of Finley,
help take care of myself ,help take care of Ethan and Ricky. basically just helped
take care of my whole family during that week and during the first week and could
not have done it without her. she came also the week after my son was born
and just a true blessing .so mom thank you so much. I'm going to cry again due to
hormones which are still crazy. but thank you so much for helping us out. I
love you. oh she's getting fussy. I'd better go. thanks so much for watching
