Waching daily Sep 20 2017

On this episode of China Uncensored,

I will not sanction these sanctions.

China defends good buddy Pakistan

from mean old Trump.

And who else but a Chinese human rights lawyer

would be guilty of subverting state power?

This is China Uncensored.

Welcome to China Uncensored,

I'm your host Chris Chappell.

On Wednesday, a huge typhoon struck southern China,

including Hong Kong and Macau.

Ten people were killed.

Hong Kong authorities did their best

to make sure their residents were safe,

telling them not to go outside and...

exercise?!

Or go swimming?!

What are you doing?!

Get out of the water!!

The nearby gambling hub of Macau

fared less well than Hong Kong.

Streets were flooded,

and a lot of buildings lost power.

Fortunately, that meant the casinos had to shut down,

saving thousands of gamblers from losing a ton of money.

We're going to talk more about

Hong Kong and Macau later in the show.

But in the meantime,

the Chinese Communist Party wants you to know how they feel.

That's why they invented the phrase,

"hurt the feelings of the Chinese people."

So the rest of the world would better understand when they've said

or done something they weren't supposed to.

According to one Chinese blogger,

state-run People's Daily,

"has used the phrase in reference

to 19 different countries and organizations,

ranging from the United States

to the Nobel Committee

and to NATO."

What's that, Shelley?

That was back in 2008?

Well, who knows how many more countries and organizations

have hurt the feelings of the Chinese people since then.

And you should be very concerned

about the feelings of the Chinese people.

Why just this week,

a professor at the University of Sydney

found out the hard way.

He dared to make a bold statement

that China has no right to disputed territory

that both China and India claim.

OK, it wasn't so much of a statement.

It was more like he showed a map.

And it wasn't so much a map

of the disputed territory per se,

it was a world map.

And it wasn't his world map.

It was just the first one that shows up

when you Google "world map,"

and he put it on a PowerPoint slide.

And it wasn't for a geography class or anything.

It was for an IT class.

And it was 18 months ago.

But if you zoom way, way in,

you can see that the blurry borders

show India's claim,

not China's.

So Chinese students in his class

began denouncing him on WeChat,

and it became a big thing because,

you know,

he hurt the feelings of the Chinese people.

So this week

he was forced to publicly apologize.

I wonder if students suspected him of using an anti-China map

because his name is Khimji Vaghjiani

and he looks like this.

Nah.

Moving on.

With so much focus on feelings,

it's no wonder that most of the China news this week

involved the Chinese regime telling the rest of the world

how it felt about something else.

For instance:

the US putting sanctions on Chinese companies

and individuals supporting Kim Jong-Un's fantasyland paradise.

China was not happy about what it called the US's "mistake."

"What the United States has done

is not helpful to the resolution of the issue

and is not beneficial to mutual trust and cooperation

between China and the United States on this matter.

We ask the United States

to immediately stop its mistake."

The sanctions are the second round since June.

They target Chinese companies that work with North Korea,

including three that imported its coal,

and another one that helped finance

its ballistic missiles program.

And speaking of North Korea's ballistic missiles program,

China was not happy about the latest

US-South Korea military drills.

You know, the ones where they prepare

for Kim Jong-un following through on his threats

to nuke South Korea and the US.

"We think that South Korea and the United States

holding joint drills is not beneficial

to easing current tensions

nor the efforts by all sides to promote talks."

That's a bit of an overreaction.

Considering they were the least aggressive—

and quite possibly lamest— joint military drills ever.

They were just sitting around

simulating drills on computers

at the Korea Battle Simulation Center.

Meanwhile, in Virginia on Monday,

President Trump outlined his new Middle East Strategy.

And then he dropped this bomb.

A figurative bomb.

Probably need to be clear about that.

"We can no longer be silent about

Pakistan's safe havens for terrorist organizations,

the Taliban,

and other groups that pose a threat

to the region and beyond."

Hmm, I wonder if this hurt the feelings

of Pakistan's biggest ally and trading partner,

China.

Let's check in again with the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"Pakistan is on the front line

in the struggle against terrorism.

It has actively made efforts

and great sacrifices

to combat terrorism for years

and has made important contributions

to safeguarding regional

and global peace and stability."

I'm sure India might disagree,

but China and India aren't exactly seeing eye to eye right now—

considering their most recent bilateral meeting

included border soldiers throwing rocks at each other.

To be clear,

that's the same dispute that we talked about last week,

but now there's video!

So as you can see,

they are definitely throwing rocks at each other...

or playing capture the flag.

Really, it could be either one.

But feelings were probably hurt on both sides.

And speaking of feelings,

have you been wondering how the Chinese regime feels

about the US State Department's latest International Religious Freedom Report?

It slammed China with harsh language,

calling China one of 7 countries

"of particular concern".

Other countries include North Korea and Iran.

Well, China is back with some harsh words for the US.

"Everyone has seen that the facts

prove the United States is not totally perfect."

She was referring to what happened in Charlottesville,

Because a handful of idiots

shouting "Jews will not replace us"

and ruining tiki torches for everyone

is exactly equivalent to the ruling Chinese regime

killing tens of thousands of religious believers

and then selling their organs on the black market.

The point is,

China has great religious freedom.

"The Chinese government fully respects

and protects people's religious freedom according to the law.

People from all ethnic groups and regions

fully possess religious freedom according to the law."

Speaking of rule of law in China,

a prominent human rights lawyer

just confessed on state-run television

to subverting state power.

I fully realize that my actions of inciting subversion of state power and overthrowing

the socialist system violate the law and constitute crimes.

In the past,

Jiang Tianyong had accused the Chinese regime

of torturing another prominent human rights lawyer.

It was a brave thing to do.

Like a lamb calling out a wolf for eating other lambs.

He also defended blind human rights activist Chen Guangcheng

and Falun Gong practitioners.

This guy had some real guts, is what I'm saying.

And then he was secretly detained

and probably tortured for 10 months.

And now he's a reformed man!

This week, he clarified on state-run media

that all the things he said about the Chinese regime

torturing that other human rights lawyer

were just lies—

and he made them up to curry favor with foreign media.

You see, he was deceived

after being indoctrinated by the "bourgeois Western constitutional system."

Those were words he spoke during the trial

that were totally not scripted at all.

He deeply regrets his actions.

So who else do you think is guilty

of so-called "hurting the feelings of the Chinese people"?

Leave your comments below.

What's your name?

Lara.

Surname?

Croft.

Lara, your father's gone.

You can pick up where he left off.

I see so much of him in you.

Brilliant.

Hello Sprout.

If you're listening to this, then I must be dead.

I found something. A tomb called the Mother of Death.

If Trinity succeeds, our world is in danger.

Promise me you will stop them.

I promise.

I think I know where my dad went.

That's right in the middle of The Devil's Sea.

It'll be an adventure.

Death is not an adventure.

You shouldn't have come here...

But I'm glad that you did.

What do you know about my father?

Now I see the lightness to recklessness.

Close the tomb once and for all. The fate of humanity is now in your hands.

Don't be too careful these days. The world has gone bloody mad.

I'll take two.

Trump's vow to "totally destroy N. Korea" over weapons threat sends shockwaves to S. Korea - Duration: 1:35.

Some perceive Trump's verbal threat to North Korea as more colorful language.

That the U.S. is bringing its military power to bear on the regime.

There are officials in Seoul placing greater emphasis on the outspoken leader's focus on

fully implementing UN sanctions.

Connie Kim brings us the analysis.

U.S. President Trump's remark to "totally destroy North Korea" if the regime threatens

the U.S. or its allies has sent shockwaves in South Korea.

While Trump is well-known for his strong and non-conventional rhetoric,... his first address

to the UN is perceived to be extraordinary.

(Korean: ) "It wasn't expected that President Trump will

come out with great rhetoric at the United Nations.

But Trump's words reflected the strong will that the U.S. will not sit and watch North

Korea's threat.

The U.S. did not give up its diplomatic solution but Washington is increasing its leverage

on its military options."

A South Korean foreign ministry official cautioned against reading too much between the lines

of Trump's speech, and rather said the U.S. president underscored the need for the international

community to fully implement sanctions on the reclusive regime.

Experts are now speculating over North Korea's possible response to Trump's UN speech, as

the regime has a record of hitting back aggressively at Trump's words.

After the U.S. president threatened the North in early August with 'fire and fury' like

the world has never seen before,... Pyongyang dismissed such warning as a load of nonsense

and outlined plans to strike the U.S. territory of Guam in the Pacific Ocean.

Connie Kim, Arirang News.

DeepMind's AI Learns Locomotion From Scratch | Two Minute Papers #190 - Duration: 4:19.

Dear Fellow Scholars, this is Two Minute Papers with Károly Zsolnai-Fehér.

We have talked about some awesome previous works where we used learning algorithms to

teach digital creatures to navigate in complex environments.

The input is a terrain and a set of joints, feet, and movement types, and the output has

to be a series of motions that maximizes some kind of reward.

This previous technique borrowed smaller snippets of movements from a previously existing database

of motions and learned to stitch them together in a way that looks natural.

And as you can see, these results are phenomenal.

And the selling point of this new one, which you might say, looks less elaborate, however,

it synthesizes them from scratch.

This problem is typically solved via reinforcement learning, which is a technique that comes

up with a series of decisions to maximize a prescribed score.

This score typically needs to be something reasonably complex, otherwise the algorithm

is given too much freedom to maximize it.

For instance, we may want to teach a digital character to run or jump hurdles, but it may

start crawling instead, which is still completely fine if our objective is too simple, for instance,

just maximizing the distance from the starting point.

To alleviate this, we typically resort to reward engineering, which means that we add

additional terms to this reward function to regularize the behavior of these creatures.

For instance, we can specify that throughout these motions, the body has to remain upright

which likely favors locomotion-type solutions.

However, one of the main advantages of machine learning is that we can reuse our solutions

for a large set of problems.

If we have to specialize our algorithm for all terrain and motion types, and different

kinds of games, we lose out on one of the biggest advantage of learning techniques.

So researchers at DeepMind decided that they are going to solve this problem with a reward

function which is nothing else but forward progress.

That's it.

The further we get, the higher score we obtain.

This is amazing because it doesn't require any specialized reward function but at the

same time, there are a ton of different solutions that get us far in these terrains.

And as you see here, beyond bipeds, a bunch of different agent types are supported.

The key factors to make this happen is to apply two modifications to the original reinforcement

learning algorithm.

One makes the learning process more robust and less dependent on what parameters we choose,

and the other one makes it more scalable, which means that it is able to efficiently

deal with larger problems.

Furthermore, the training process itself happens on a rich, carefully selected set of challenging

levels.

Make sure to have a look at the paper for details.

A byproduct of this kind of problem formulation, is, as you can see, that even though this

humanoid does its job with its lower body well, but in the meantime, it is flailing

its arms like a madman.

The reason is likely because there is not much of a difference in the reward between

different arm motions.

This means that we most likely get through a maze or a heightfield even when flailing,

therefore the algorithm doesn't have any reason to favor more natural looking movements for

the upper body.

It will probably choose a random one, which is highly unlikely to be a natural motion.

This creates high quality, albeit amusing results that I am sure some residents of the

internet will honor with a sped-up remix video with some Benny Hill music.

In summary, no precomputed motion database, no handcrafting of rewards, and no additional

wizardry needed.

Everything is learned from scratch with a few small modifications to the reinforcement

learning algorithm.

Highly remarkable work.

You said it yourself, Steve.

So... Madame, s'il vous plaît.

Incroyable!

Magnifique!

- Thank you. - Thank you.

Monsieur, s'il vous plaît.

(CHUCKLES)

- Et voilà! Sammy.

SAMEER: Et voilà!

(INDISTINCT CONVERSATIONS)

(MUSIC PLAYING)

You did this.

We did.

Do you have dancing on

Paradise Island?

(LAUGHING) Dancing, yeah. Of course.

But these people are just swaying.

Okay, if you're going to be fighting the God of War,

I may as well teach you how to dance, you poor thing.

All right, probably without the gun.

Madame.

If you would.

Well...

If I'm going to a gala, I'll need to know how to dance.

- You're not going to the gala. - Of course I am.

- No, you're not. - Why wouldn't I?

Well, for one, you don't know how to dance.

I would argue that they don't know how to dance.

Be polite, be polite.

All right. So, give me your hand.

Like so.

And I'm gonna put my arm

around you, like so.

And we just...

What did you call it? "Sway"?

Then you just sway.

You're awfully close.

That's what it's all about.

I see.

(CHARLIE SINGING)

I haven't heard him sing in years.

(CHUCKLES) It's, uh... It's a snowfall.

Touch it.

(LAUGHS)

It's magical!

It is, isn't it?

It is, yeah.

Is this what people do when there are no wars to fight?

Yeah.

Yeah, this and other things.

What things?

Um...

They have breakfast.

They really love a breakfast.

And, um, they love to wake up

and read the paper and go to work.

They get married.

Make some babies, grow old together.

I guess.

What is it like?

I have no idea.

Sharing Hope in Eastern Europe - Enjoying Everyday Life - Duration: 28:33.

ANNOUNCER: THE FOLLOWING PROGRAM IS PAID FOR

BY THE FRIENDS AND PARTNERS OF JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES.

[MUSIC]

JOYCE: WE'RE NOTHING IN OURSELVES BUT WE'RE

EVERYTHING IN CHRIST.

I CAN DO NOTHING WITHOUT HIM BUT I CAN DO ANYTHING THAT HE WANTS

ME DO THROUGH HIM.

COME ON NOW.

I CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT HIM, BUT I CAN DO WHATEVER

I NEED DO THROUGH HIM.

CAN I TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE?

GET THE WORDS "I CAN'T" OUT OF YOUR REPERTOIRE OF WORDS THAT

YOU USE AND DON'T BE GOING AROUND SAYING,

"IT'S TOO HARD, I CAN'T."

YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU NEED TO DO IN THIS LIFE IF YOU

LEAN ON CHRIST AND TRUST HIM TO HELP YOU, AMEN?

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: YOU CAN BE IN A VERY, VERY DIFFICULT SITUATION AND YOU

CAN BE THERE WITH A SMILE ON YOUR FACE AND YOU CAN BE THERE

AND BE A BLESSING TO OTHER PEOPLE WHILE YOU

ARE HURTING YOURSELF.

I THINK I'M GONNA SAY THAT AGAIN.

'CAUSE SEE, SOMETIMES WE JUST THINK IF WE'RE IN A DIFFICULT

SITUATION, THEN THE WHOLE WORLD HAS TO STOP UNTIL OUR PROBLEM

GETS SOLVED AND THAT'S JUST NOT TRUE.

WHILE YOU'RE HURTING, GOD WILL USE YOU TO HELP SOMEBODY ELSE IF

YOU'LL LET HIM AND THAT'S ONE OF THE QUICKEST WAYS TO RECEIVE

YOUR OWN HEALING.

WHILE YOU'RE HURTING, YOU CAN BE IN A VERY DIFFICULT SITUATION

AND YOU CAN BE THERE WITH A SMILE ON YOUR FACE AND A GOOD

ATTITUDE AND WHILE YOU'RE WAITING FOR YOUR BREAKTHROUGH,

YOU CAN AND SHOULD BE A BLESSING TO OTHER PEOPLE.

SOMEBODY SAY, "AMEN."

IN EPHESIANS 3:12 THE APOSTLE PAUL SAID,

"BECAUSE OF OUR FAITH IN HIM, WE DARE TO HAVE THE BOLDNESS

(THE COURAGE AND THE CONFIDENCE) OF FREE ACCESS

(AN UNRESERVED APPROACH TO GOD WITH FREEDOM AND WITHOUT FEAR)."

NOW, HERE'S PAUL WHO SAYS, "I'M THE CHIEF OF ALL SINNERS," BUT

YET HE'S ALSO SAYING IN CHRIST, BECAUSE OF KNOWING WHO WE ARE

IN HIM, WE CAN HAVE BOLDNESS AND ACCESS TO THE THRONE OF GOD TO

GO BOLDLY BEFORE THE THRONE AND ASK GOD FOR RADICAL THINGS IN

OUR LIFE THAT WE DON'T DESERVE AND PROBABLY SHOULDN'T HAVE

BUT WE CAN ASK HIM BECAUSE HE'S GOOD.

MAYBE SOME OF YOU ARE NOT ASKING FOR ENOUGH.

I'LL TELL THEM, YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: MAYBE SOME OF YOU ARE NOT ASKING FOR ENOUGH.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: YOU KNOW, SEVERAL YEARS AGO, I GOT THIS URGE ONE

DAY AND I BELIEVE WE GET HOLY GHOST URGES, AMEN?

DON'T PUSH THOSE DOWN.

IF IT'S A FLESHLY URGE, PUSH IT DOWN, BUT IF IT'S A HOLY GHOST

URGE, LET IT COME UP, LET IT COME OUT.

AND AS I WAS PRAYING ONE DAY, I GOT THIS URGE TO PRAY THAT GOD

WOULD LET ME TEACH THE WORD TO EVERY HUMAN BEING ON THE PLANET.

NOW, JUST HANG ON.

MY MIND SAID, "THAT IS CRAZY, NOBODY CAN DO THAT."

AND THEN THE DEVIL SAID, "AND WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?"

THE ENEMY DOES NOT WANT YOU TO PRAY BOLD PRAYERS.

YOU OUGHT TO PRAY SOMETHING SO BIG THAT YOU'RE NOT EVEN SURE

GOD CAN ANSWER IT.

AND I GUESS THAT'S KIND OF THE WAY I FELT ABOUT THAT THAT DAY.

"GOD, I WANT TO TEACH THE WORD TO EVERY PERSON ON THE PLANET."

WELL, WE'RE NOT GETTING THEM ALL YET BUT THERE'S A WHOLE BUNCH.

OUR PROGRAM IS TRANSLATED INTO 83--85 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES NOW,

TRANSLATED.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: I DON'T KNOW HOW IN THE WORLD GOD DOES IT.

THIS IS WHAT I DO AND HE GIVES US ALL THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE

THAT MAKE ALL THIS OTHER STUFF HAPPEN AND ALL THESE WONDERFUL

MINISTRY PARTNERS AROUND THE WORLD, EVEN LIKE OTHER

MINISTRIES WHO PARTNER WITH US IN GETTING THESE TRANSLATIONS

AND MAKING THESE THINGS HAPPEN.

IT'S IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE TO HEAR THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST IN

THEIR OWN LANGUAGE, EVEN IF ENGLISH IS A SECOND LANGUAGE FOR

THEM, THEY NEED IT IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE BECAUSE THEY CAN RELAX

AND RECEIVE IT THAT WAY.

SO, WE'RE ON TELEVISION ACROSS THE MIDDLE EAST, AFRICA, INDIA,

ASIA, MONGOLIA, I MEAN, PLACES THAT I WOULDN'T EVEN KNOW

HOW TO GET TO.

AND THE WORD WORKS IN PEOPLE'S LIVES NO MATTER WHAT LANGUAGE

THEY SPEAK OR WHAT CULTURE THAT THEY'RE FROM.

EVERYBODY NEEDS JESUS.

SO, THROUGH THE INTERNET, THROUGH SATELLITES, THROUGH

TELEVISION, THROUGH RADIO, THROUGH PRINTED MATERIAL,

THROUGH BOOKS, THE GOSPEL IS AVAILABLE TO PRETTY MUCH THE

WHOLE ENTIRE PLANET NOW AND I'M NOT FOOLISH ENOUGH TO THINK

THEY'RE ALL WATCHING ME EVERY DAY.

I'M NOT THAT FULL OF MYSELF BUT I WOULD--LET ME TELL YOU

WHAT ONE THING.

I WOULD RATHER PRAY BIG PRAYERS AND GET PART OF IT THAN

TO PRAY LITTLE PRAYERS AND GET ALL OF IT.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

[MUSIC]

GINGER: YOU KNOW, OUR PRAYER EVERY DAY

AT JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES AND HAND OF HOPE, AND

IT'S PROBABLY YOUR PRAYER TOO, IS FOR GOD TO GIVE US MORE

OPPORTUNITIES TO SHARE HIS GOSPEL OF LOVE EVERY DAY

WITH PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD.

AND, OF COURSE, FOR US TO BE READY WHEN THE TIME COMES

TO WALK THROUGH THOSE DOORS.

WELL, THOSE PRAYERS ARE BEING ANSWERED IN BEAUTIFUL WAYS AND

HERE IN BUDAPEST, HUNGARY AND THROUGHOUT EASTERN EUROPE, WE

ARE SEEING SOME AMAZING THINGS.

WE HAVE SOME BEAUTIFUL TESTIMONIES TO SHARE WITH YOU

BECAUSE YOU ARE A BIG PART OF EVERYTHING

THAT'S HAPPENING RIGHT HERE.

GINGER: ONE OF THE MAJOR INITIATIVES OF HAND OF HOPE

IS TO SPREAD THE WORD OF CHRIST ALL OVER THE WORLD AND WE ARE

IN BUDAPEST TODAY, THIS PART OF THE WORLD, THE EASTERN EUROPEAN

COUNTRIES HAVE HAD SOME VERY SPECIFIC CHALLENGES

THROUGHOUT HISTORY.

DAVE: YOU KNOW, THIS PART OF THE WORLD'S BEEN FOUGHT OVER,

YOU KNOW, AS LONG AS, YOU KNOW, WE KNOW IN RECORDED HISTORY.

AND SO, YOU JUST HAVE EVERY INFLUENCE UNDER THE SUN FROM,

YOU KNOW, ATHEISM, TO COMMUNISM, TO RELIGIOUS HISTORY THAT

BECOMES SO RELIGIOUS THAT IT'S IRRELEVANT.

AND SO, THAT'S WHAT--THAT'S WHAT WE LOVE TO BRING BECAUSE I GUESS

WE FEEL LIKE IN MANY WAYS FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE'RE ABLE

TO REALLY PUSH PEOPLE TOWARDS THE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS.

JIM: WELL, HUNGARY IS AN AMAZING PLACE.

WE'VE BEEN LIVING HERE SINCE 1997 AND HISTORICALLY IT WAS

A CATHOLIC NATION THEN COMMUNISM CAME IN AND NOW A LOT OF THE

PEOPLE ARE AGNOSTIC OR ATHEISM.

ANGEL: NOW, SINCE SOCIALISM OR COMMUNISM FELL, THEY PUT THE

MASK OF RELIGION WITH TRADITIONS AND EVERYTHING AND THEY THINK,

"YEAH, I HAVE MY RELIGION SO THAT'S WHAT I NEED."

WHEN YOU SCRATCH THAT SURFACE, THAT MASK YOU FIND THAT ACTUALLY

THEY DON'T BELIEVE GOD, THEY DON'T READ THE BIBLE, THEY ARE

NOT BORN AGAIN, THEY DON'T KNOW WHO JESUS OR HOLY SPIRIT IS.

MAREK: YOU KNOW, THE POLISH PEOPLE ARE KIND OF VERY SINCERE

AND THEY KIND OF LOVE GOD IN A SENSE.

BASICALLY, THE THING IS THAT THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND QUITE ALL

THE THINGS BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN BROUGHT BY A CULTURE AND THEY

BELIEVE THEY ARE CHRISTIANS.

THEY DON'T EXPERIENCE GOD BUT THEY THINK THAT THIS IS SUPPOSED

TO BE LIKE THAT, YOU KNOW?

STEFANIA: ITALY IS A VERY PECULIAR COUNTRY ESPECIALLY

SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING.

THEY TALK ABOUT DOCTRINE A LOT, WHICH IS FINE, IT'S GREAT,

BUT THE PRACTICAL THING, THE EVERYDAY THING, ALL THESE THINGS

LACKED BASICALLY.

TUDOR: THE ORTHODOX, A BIG MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE,

THEY HAVE A FORM OF RELIGION, NOT A WAY TO BELIEVE DAY BY DAY

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE, EVEN IN EVANGELICAL CHURCHES.

THE EVANGELICAL CHURCHES, BAPTIST, PENTECOSTAL, BRETHREN,

THEY WAS UNDER THE BIG PRESSURE, AND OPPRESSION, AND PERSECUTION

THERE AT COMMUNIST TIME.

THE MAIN HOPE, THE MAIN GOAL WAS TO SURVIVE.

KLARA: IN OUR COUNTRY, IT IS THE--THERE IS MORE DARKNESS

THAN THE LIGHT, YOU KNOW?

WE HAVE YOUNG PEOPLE WITHOUT A FUTURE.

WE HAVE ALSO MANY ABORTIONS AND MANY SUICIDES.

AND IT IS REALLY NECESSARY TO BRING JESUS, TO BRING LIGHT

IN EVERY HOME, YOU KNOW?

JIM: YOU KNOW, EVERYBODY WILL TALK ABOUT GOD AND THEY WANNA

KNOW ABOUT GOD BUT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW GOD FITS IN THEIR LIFE.

JOSEPH: I THINK THAT EVERYBODY, THE NON-CHRISTIANS

AND THE SO-CALLED CHRISTIANS, THEY NEED STRONG,

HEALTHY TEACHINGS.

DAVE: IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, IT WAS ABOUT

10, 11, 12 YEARS AGO, WE STARTED WORKING HERE AND WE WEREN'T

DOING ANYTHING IN THIS REGION IN LOCAL LANGUAGES AND NOW WE

REALLY HAVE SOMETHING IN ALMOST EVERY LANGUAGE IN EASTERN EUROPE

AND WE'RE ON TELEVISION IN ALL BUT ONE AND WE'RE WORKING HARD

ON THAT.

AND BOOKS WE WOULD HAVE IN EVERY MAJOR LANGUAGE IN ALL OF EASTERN

EUROPE AND SO THAT'S BEEN REALLY COOL TO SEE HOW OUR FRIENDS AND

PARTNERS HAVE HELPED US TO BE ABLE TO GO INTO AN AREA WHERE

LITERALLY WE WERE NOT DOING ANYTHING AND NOW 10, 12 YEARS

LATER, WE CAN SIT BACK AND CELEBRATE THE FACT THAT, YOU

KNOW, WE'RE AVAILABLE TO SOW SEED IN EACH ONE OF THOSE

LANGUAGES IN SOME WAY.

GINGER: SO, AS PEOPLE ARE WATCHING JOYCE'S PROGRAM,

"ENJOYING EVERYDAY LIFE," YOU SEE THEM CONNECTING, YOU SEE

THEM UNDERSTANDING GOD'S WORD AS SHE SHARES IT?

MAREK: YEAH DEFINITELY BECAUSE, I MEAN IT'S LIKE A

TRIGGER IN MANY CASES I MEAN BECAUSE THE RESPONSE TO HER

IS SO ENORMOUS IN POLAND.

YOU KNOW, I TELL YA, I WAS SHOCKED.

JIM: AT JOYCE MEYER, THE "ENJOYING EVERYDAY LIFE"

TELEVISION PROGRAM IS JUST CHANGING SO MANY OF THESE

COUNTRIES 'CAUSE IT REACHES SO MANY DIFFERENT HOMES THROUGH

THE, NOT ONLY THE TELEVISION, BUT PEOPLE WATCHING IT ONLINE

AND THINGS LIKE THAT IN ALL THEIR DIFFERENT LANGUAGES.

WE'VE SEEN "ENJOYING EVERYDAY LIFE"

SPOKEN IN 11 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES HERE IN EASTERN EUROPE.

AND SO, IT'S SO NEAT WHEN PEOPLE TURN ON THE TELEVISION, FOR

EXAMPLE, IN SLOVENIA AND THEY HEAR JOYCE MEYER SPEAKING

SLOVENIAN OR IN BULGARIA, THEY SEE HER SPEAKING BULGARIAN.

SO-- GINGER: SO, IT'S PERSONAL.

IT CONNECTS.

JIM: IT'S VERY PERSONAL.

GINGER: AND THEY UNDERSTAND.

JIM: IT'S JUST LIKE SHE'S SPEAKING TO THEM.

STEFANIA: ITALIANS NEED THIS.

THEY NEED IT, THEY NEED IT, THEY NEED IT.

I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT SO I STARTED--

GINGER: AND THEY NEED IT IN THEIR LANGUAGE.

STEFANIA: ABSOLUTELY, YES, BECAUSE NOT MANY ITALIANS

SPEAK ENGLISH.

JOSEPH: AT LEAST ALWAYS THE HALF OF THE HUNGARIAN POPULATION

HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE IT BECAUSE IT IS IN 1.5 MILLION HOUSEHOLD

AND ALSO NOW MORE AND MORE SPREAD ON THE INTERNET AS WELL.

GINGER: IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE DON'T USE YOUR REAL NAME.

WE'RE USING A DIFFERENT NAME FOR YOU TODAY, YOU'RE NOT ABLE

TO SHOW YOUR FACE, TELL US WHY THAT IS.

ADA: FROM THE BEGINNING WHEN WE WANTED TO START WORK IN

KOSOVO AND TO BROADCAST CHRISTIAN PROGRAMS, WE HAVE

FACED OPPOSITION FROM THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY, EVEN THE TELEVISION,

THE SECULAR TELEVISION STATION WHERE WE ARE BROADCASTING THEY

HAVE RECEIVED CERTAIN THREATS.

GINGER: SO, THERE ARE SOME SECURITY ISSUES FOR YOU?

ADA: YES, YES, "ENJOYING EVERYDAY LIFE"

WAS THE FIRST TELEVISION PROGRAM THAT WAS EVER AIRED

IN SECULAR TV STATION IN KOSOVO AND THE FIRST MOMENT

AS WE BROUGHT IT ON THE AIR, WE THOUGHT THAT LET'S SEE

IF WE WILL RECEIVE ANY RESPONSE.

BUT ACTUALLY, FROM THE FIRST DAY, THE RESPONSE

WAS OVERWHELMING AND MANY--WE RECEIVED MANY EMAILS AND MANY

PHONE CALLS ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAD BEEN TOUCHED BY THE MESSAGE, WHO

WERE WATCHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT THING AND WHO WERE STARTING TO

DEAL WITH ISSUES IN THEIR LIFE.

ANGEL: I DEFINITELY AM SO THANKFUL TO GOD FOR THE

PRIVILEGE OF HAVING EVERYDAY-- "ENJOYING EVERYDAY LIFE" PROGRAM

IN MACEDONIA AND ESPECIALLY BEING TRANSLATED SO THAT OUR

PEOPLE, OUR NATION, PEOPLE LIVING IN MACEDONIA ARE ABLE

TO HEAR IT AND UNDERSTAND, WHY?

BECAUSE IT'S SO PRACTICAL.

IT'S SO BIBLICAL BASED, AND IT'S SIMPLE TRUTH FOR EVERYDAY LIFE.

I MEAN, I KNOW HOW MUCH IT CHANGED MY LIFE.

ADA: BECAUSE OF THE WAR, MANY PEOPLE HAVE FACED TRAUMA.

MANY WOMEN HAVE FACED ABUSE, BEEN RAPED, BUT THEY NEVER HAD

A CHANCE TO DEAL WITH ALL THESE ISSUES.

SO, KIND OF HEARING THIS MESSAGE OF HOPE AND OF THE FACT THAT YOU

CAN HAVE A NEW LIFE IN CHRIST, AND GOD CAN MAKE YOU WHOLE

AGAIN, I THINK GAVE TO MANY PEOPLE AND IT'S STILL

GIVING THEM HOPE.

KLARA: SHE REALLY--I MEAN, OUR WOMEN CAN REALLY CONNECT

WITH HER AND TO--THEY OPEN THEIR HEARTS AND THEY CAN SEE HOW TO

BUILD A STRONG RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS AND HOW TO GROW IN FAITH.

TUDOR: GOD IS DOING IMPORTANT THING AND JOYCE MEYER, FROM

THE REACTION THAT WE HAD, IT'S A PART OF THE RESTORATION PROCESS

THAT GOD IS DOING IN ROMANIA.

ADA: KOSOVO NEEDS THE LIGHT OF JESUS AND THERE IS NO OTHER

WAY, AND TELEVISION AND MEDIA CAN GO WHERE NO MAN CAN GO

AND ENTER INTO THE HOUSES OF THE PEOPLE AND TAKE ON THEIR HEARTS.

TUDOR: GOD IS PUSHING CHRISTIANS TO THINK OUT OF THE

BOX AND JOYCE MEYER IS PART OF THIS EXTENDED WORKS IN ROMANIA.

JIM: WE WANNA SATURATE THIS PART OF ALL OF EASTERN EUROPE

WITH THE GOSPEL AND HAND OF HOPE AND JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES ARE

HELPING TO DO THIS THROUGH THE BOOKS, AND THE TELEVISION, AND

THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF MINISTRY.

WE WANT EVERYBODY TO KNOW THAT JESUS IS REAL.

GINGER: YOU KNOW, SOME NATIONS IN THE WORLD IT JUST

APPEARS ON THE OUTSIDE LIKE PEOPLE HAVE EVERYTHING THAT THEY

COULD POSSIBLY NEED AND YET, SOME LIVES ARE EMPTY BECAUSE

THERE'S SOMETHING WE ALL NEED AND THAT'S THE LOVE OF CHRIST.

DO YOU REMEMBER THAT MOMENT WHEN SOMEONE SHARED CHRIST WITH YOU?

EVERYONE IN THE WORLD DESERVES THAT MOMENT AND AS A PARTNER

WITH JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES, YOU ARE A PART OF BRINGING THAT

MOMENT TO PEOPLE EVERYWHERE.

JOIN US IN PARTNERSHIP AS WE PROVIDE THAT SPECIAL MOMENT

TO PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD.

ANNOUNCER: JOINING IN PARTNERSHIP

WITH JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES IS MORE THAN JUST A COMMITMENT

OF PRAYER AND FINANCIAL GIVING.

YOU BECOME OF PART OF WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO AROUND THE GLOBE

EVERY DAY, SHARING CHRIST AND LOVING PEOPLE.

BECOME A PARTNER TODAY AND AS A THANK YOU TO ANYONE SINGING UP

FOR CONVENIENT AUTOMATIC GIVING FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE'D LIKE

TO SEND YOU JOYCE'S TEACHING SERIES, "TRUST GOD AND DO GOOD."

CALL...

OR GO TO JOYCEMEYER.ORG.

[MUSIC]

GINGER: TELL ME SOME OF THE RESULTS THAT YOU ARE SEEING NOW

THAT THE TEACHING IS COMING INTO ITALY?

STEFANIA: OVER THE YEARS, I RECEIVED FEEDBACK, AND RESPONSES

AND EMAILS, AND THEY'RE SAYING, "SHE'S TEACHING THINGS THAT

NOBODY HAS EVERY THOUGHT ME EITHER IN CHURCH OR OUTSIDE

THE CHURCH."

MAREK: IT WAS THIS BOY, YOU KNOW, SOMETHING LIKE 14 OR 13,

HE GOT, YOU KNOW, LIKE IN TOUCH WITH THE PROGRAM.

AND HE CALLED US AND HE ASKED IF HE COULD GET A DVD OR WHATEVER

BECAUSE HE WANTED TO SHOW THE MOVIE TO HIS MOM AND FATHER.

YOU KNOW, THE FAMILY HAD SOME KIND OF PROBLEMS AND HE WANTED

TO SHOW THEM THE PROGRAM.

SO, ANOTHER SITUATION, YOU KNOW, YOUNG GENERATION, THAT'S WHY

I WAS SO AMAZED AT JOYCE MEYER BECAUSE SHE SPEAKS TO PEOPLE

AT THE AGE OF 50, 40, AND NOW TEENAGER SO, THAT'S INCREDIBLE.

JIM: JOYCE CAME TO CENTRAL--IN EASTERN EUROPE

IN 2011.

SHE WENT TO WARSAW POLAND, TIRANA ALBANIA, WHICH IS

76% MUSLIM AND SOFIA BULGARIA AND DID MEETINGS

IN ALL THESE COUNTRIES.

AND I REMEMBER IN BULGARIA IN--67-YEAR-OLD LADY CAME UP

TO ME BEFORE THE MEETING.

THERE WAS 7,000 PEOPLE THERE AND WITH TEARS IN HER EYES, SHE HAD

READ "BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND" IN BULGARIAN

AND IT CHANGED HER LIFE.

AND NOW SHE WAS GETTING TO SEE JOYCE IN PERSON.

AND I REMEMBER SEEING HER SIT ON THE FRONT OF THE MEETING THERE

IN SOFIA AND I COULD SEE THE TEARS AND SHE

WAS SPEAKING DIRECTLY TO THAT 67-YEAR-OLD LADY.

SHE WASN'T SPEAKING TO ALL OF THEM, SHE WAS SPEAKING

TO THAT LADY.

SOMEHOW SHE CONNECTS WITH PEOPLE.

ADA: THERE WAS THIS GUY CALLING US FROM A HIGH SECURITY

PRISON IN KOSOVO.

HE TOLD US THAT HE WATCHED "ENJOYING EVERYDAY LIFE"

ON TELEVISION AND THAT HE WAS SO CURIOUS TO READ THE BOOK

OF JOYCE MEYER SO HE ASKED US TO BRING HIM A BOOK.

WHAT WAS SPECIAL ABOUT THIS STORY WAS THAT EARLIER ON, WE

HAD TRIED TO GO ON THE PRISONS IN KOSOVO AND GIVE OUT SOME

LITERATURE, BIBLE OR OTHER CHRISTIAN BOOKS,

BUT THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE.

AND WE WERE TOLD FROM THE GUARDS THAT ONLY IF A PRISONER WOULD

ASK CHRISTIAN LITERATURE THAN YOU CAN BRING IT IN.

THIS GUY WAS IN JAIL BECAUSE HE HAD BEEN FIGHTING IN SYRIA WITH

ISIS WITH SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE AND HE CAME BACK TO KOSOVO TO

TRAIN OTHER PEOPLE BUT THEN GOT CAUGHT FROM THE POLICE

AND NOW WAS IN JAIL AND HE'S STILL IN JAIL.

BUT THROUGH HIM, HE, FIRST OF ALL, HAS FOUND PEACE

AND WE BELIEVE THAT GOD IS WORKING IN HIS LIFE.

AND NOW THE BOOKS AS WELL ARE-- GINGER: SO, YOU'RE SAYING

HE WAS A MEMBER OF ISIS?

ADA: YES, HE WAS A FIGHTER.

GINGER: AND BEGAN TO SEE'S PROGRAM.

ADA: ON TELEVISION.

GINGER: AND THE WORD OF GOD CHANGED HIS LIFE, WOW.

AND HE THEN, BECAUSE HE REQUESTED HELP AND LITERATURE,

DID THAT OPEN THE DOOR FOR YOU TO BRING IT INTO OTHER PEOPLE

AS WELL?

ADA: YES, 'CAUSE WE BROUGHT MANY BOOKS THEN TO THE PRISON.

SO, NOW WE DON'T KNOW WHAT GOD IS DOING IN THAT HIGH SECURITY

PRISON BUT WE KNOW THAT SOMETHING GOOD IS HAPPENING.

GINGER: THAT'S ASTOUNDING.

GINGER: WHAT IS A PRAYER POINT FOR THIS PART OF THE WORLD

FOR OUR FRIENDS AND PARTNERS, WHAT CAN THEY PRAY ABOUT HERE?

DAVE: OPEN DOORS EVEN THOUGH WE'RE ON A LOT OF TELEVISION,

IT'S NOTHING LIKE THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO BE ON.

THERE'S ALL KINDS OF GREATER AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WE COULD REACH

IF WE GET ON BETTER TV, BETTER OPTIONS THERE.

JUST REALLY GOOD PEOPLE TO WORK WITH ON THE GROUND.

WE HAVE A LOT OF GREAT PEOPLE BUT A LOT OF THEM, YOU KNOW,

THEY'RE DOING OTHER THINGS.

THEY HAVE THEIR OWN MINISTRIES AND SO, YOU KNOW, WITH

TECHNOLOGY CHANGING AS FAST AS IT IS, YOU KNOW, YOU NEED PEOPLE

THAT ARE EXPERTS IN SOCIAL MEDIA AND EXPERTS IN JUST EVERYTHING

THAT'S CHANGING SO FAST.

GINGER: A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES THAT WEREN'T HERE

JUST A FEW YEARS AGO SO IT'S HARD TO TELL WHAT WILL COME UP

IN ANOTHER 5, 10 YEARS.

DAVE: ABSOLUTELY.

JIM: OUR PRAYER IS THAT WE GET ON THE--THE MAJOR TELEVISION

STATIONS IN ALL THESE COUNTRIES AND THE PEOPLE

THAT GET TOUCHED BY THAT.

IT'S NOT JUST ANOTHER PROGRAM, IT'S SOMETHING

THEY LOOK FORWARD TO.

IT'S SOMETHING THEY TELL THEIR FRIENDS ABOUT AND THEY TELL

THEIR NEIGHBORS ABOUT.

AND SO, WE USE THAT AS A, JUST ANOTHER TOOL OF REACHING

THIS PART OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE.

HERVIN: THE BIBLE SPEAKS OF REACHING THE GENERATION

OF THE PEOPLE.

YOU KNOW, GOD HAS ASSIGNED US IN THIS TIME TO REACH OUR OWN

PEOPLE GROUP IN THIS TIME SO IT IS UP TO US.

WE CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT GENERATION TO REACH THEM

BECAUSE THIS GENERATION HAS THE CHANCE IN THIS TIME.

SO, MY PRAYER IS THAT THE GOSPEL GETS TO THE PEOPLE.

THE GOSPEL IS THE POWER OF GOD FOR SALVATION AND PEOPLE WILL

NOT BELIEVE, WILL NOT COME TO FAITH UNLESS THEY HEAR SO

THIS IS A GREAT TOOL THAT GOD IS USING TO REACH THE PEOPLE.

JOSEPH: MY REAL DREAM TO LET GOD'S PEOPLE BE EDUCATED,

YOU KNOW, GROW UP AS MATURE CHRISTIAN AND JOYCE MEYER GIVES

THE TOOLS FOR IT FOR US SO IT'S AMAZING.

ADA: I SEE MANY PEOPLE SAYING THAT THIS IS A DIFFERENT MESSAGE

THAT KOSOVO NEEDS TODAY AND I HEAR THIS EVEN FROM PEOPLE

THAT DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CHRISTIANITY.

SO, I JUST CONSIDER THEY NEED HOPE AND THEY NEED A FUTURE.

AND MY DESIRE IS THAT THEY WILL COME TO EMBRACE THE LOVE OF GOD,

AND THEY WILL KNOW CHRIST, AND WILL KNOW THAT HE'S THE AUTHOR

OF LIFE, AND HE'S THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN GIVE THEM WHAT THEY

NEED, AND IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN CHANGE THAT COUNTRY.

MAREK: WITHOUT I GUESS THERE'S TWO TEAMS OF YOUR PART

AND OUR PART, I MEAN WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO CERTAIN THINGS

SO I MEAN IT'S A KIND OF MUTUAL THING, YOU KNOW?

AND I'M SO HAPPY FOR THAT BECAUSE SOMETIMES I CAN REACH

THIS OR THAT PERSON BUT OTHER PEOPLE ARE OUT OF REACH.

YOU KNOW, I'M NOT THE PERSON TO TALK TO THEM.

YOU KNOW, THEY WOULD NEVER LISTEN TO ME BUT SOME OF THE

REST COMES AND REACHES THOSE PEOPLE AND WHAT HAPPENS JUST

LIKE JOYCE MEYER CAME TO POLAND FOR THE CONFERENCE, I MEAN

SEVERAL KEY PEOPLE WERE SAVED AT THAT TIME THAT NOW DO SOME

CHRISTIAN PRODUCTION, TELEVISION PRODUCTION.

SO, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S, YOU KNOW, IT'S JUST AMAZING

WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT, YOU KNOW?

IT'S BEEN LIKE A COUPLE OF YEARS WE WORKED TOGETHER AND I SEE

THAT, WOW, SO MANY THINGS WE WOULDN'T HAVE EXPECTED TO HAPPEN

HAPPENED JUST BECAUSE OF THIS PARTICULAR CONNECTION, YOU KNOW?

GINGER: SO, WHO KNOWS WHAT GOD HAS IN THE FUTURE.

IT COULD BE QUITE AMAZING?

MAREK: WHO KNOWS?

WE ARE KIND OF, YOU KNOW, LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS.

GINGER: YEAH.

GINGER: YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE AMERICANS.

GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO BE MISSIONARIES IN THIS PART OF THE

WORLD, BUT THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE RIGHT IN THEIR

HOME WATCHING RIGHT NOW AND GOD IS CALLING THEM TO HELP ALSO

BUT THEY MAYBE CAN'T PICK UP ALL THEIR FAMILY AND MOVE.

BUT THEY'RE STILL PART OF ALL OF THIS MINISTRY TOGETHER THROUGH

THEIR PRAYERS AND THROUGH THEIR PARTNERSHIP

WITH JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES.

HOW WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE THEM?

YOU'RE SEEING IT FIRSTHAND, IS WHAT THEY ARE DOING

MAKING A DIFFERENCE?

JIM: IT IS MAKING SUCH A DIFFERENCE BECAUSE WITHOUT WHAT

THEY DO, WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO WHAT WE'RE DOING.

THAT LADY IN BULGARIA, THE TELEVISION STATION IN SLOVENIA,

WE HAVE PERSONALLY BEEN PARTNERS OF JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES SINCE

1991 AND IT'S--WE SEE THE FRUIT AND THAT'S WHY WE BELIEVE IN IT.

ANGEL: WITHOUT JOYCE PREACHING AND WITHOUT HELP

OF THOSE SUPPORTERS, PARTNERS, WE'LL NOT BE ABLE TO BRING

MESSAGES OF JOYCE OR BOOKS-- JOYCE'S BOOKS WHICH

IS LIFE-TRANSFORMING FOR SOMEONE WHO NEED DESPERATELY TO HEAR THE

MESSAGE OF HOPE IN JESUS CHRIST.

IT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE SO THIS SHOULD BE ACTUALLY ENCOURAGEMENT

TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE DOING IT, YES, YOU HAVE EQUAL PARTS

OR MAYBE BIGGER PART SHARES IN HEAVEN OF ALL WHAT WE DO HERE

SO WE ALL ARE PARTNERS TOGETHER.

GOD BLESS THEM AS WELL TO REJOICE WITH US.

KLARA: THEY ARE REALLY CLOSE TO OUR HEARTS, EVEN WHEN WE

DON'T KNOW THEM, BUT WE DO BELIEVE THAT ONE DAY IN HEAVEN,

WE WILL ALL MEET TOGETHER, YOU KNOW?

HERVIN: THE GOSPEL HAS TO GO TO THE PEOPLE IN MANY DIFFERENT

WAYS AND THIS WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE IF PEOPLE WILL NOT BE

FAITHFUL IN GIVING AND IN BELIEVING IN THE SEED.

YOU KNOW, THE SEED GOES UNDERNEATH THE GROUND AND YOU DO

NOT KNOW WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN, YOU JUST HAVE FAITH THAT IN THE

RIGHT SEASON, IT'S GOING TO COME UP AND THEN WITH THE RIGHT CARE,

IT'S GOING TO PRODUCE FRUIT.

AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE CASTING THE SEED AROUND, YOU KNOW, FROM

AROUND THE WORLD THROUGH THIS MINISTRY, THROUGH MANY OTHER

DIFFERENT MINISTRIES AND THEY WILL NOT KNOW THE RESULTS IN THE

FRUIT UNTIL NAY ARE IN HEAVEN BUT THEY NEED TO BE CONFIDENT

AND THEY NEED TO PRAY BECAUSE IT'S NOT UP TO THEM, BUT IT'S UP

TO GOD HOW GOD WILL BRING FRUIT TO THE, YOU KNOW, TO THE SOWING

THAT THEY DO.

STEFANIA: THEY HAVE NO CLUE HOW BIG THEIR PART IS.

WITHOUT THEM, THIS COULD NOT BE POSSIBLE.

JIM: WHEN WE'RE IN THOSE HOMES ON TELEVISION

IT'S BECAUSE OF THEM.

WHEN WE'RE ABLE TO GIVE A BOOK, "A NEW WAY OF LIVING,"

OR "BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND," OR "GET YOUR HOPES UP" AND GIVE IT

TO--THAT'S HOW THEY'RE TOUCHING BECAUSE WE GIVE THOSE BOOKS

AWAY FOR FREE.

THEY CAN'T AFFORD THEM OR THEY DON'T--WOULDN'T NECESSARILY BUT

WHEN THEY READ THOSE BOOKS, IT'S BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE GIVING IN THE

UNITED STATES AND OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD TO HELP PUT THOSE

MATERIALS IN THEIR HANDS.

WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO BE ON TELEVISION IN DIFFERENT

LANGUAGES HERE IN CENTRAL-- EASTERN EUROPE

IF IT WASN'T FOR THEM.

WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GIVE AWAY THOSE BOOKS

IF IT WASN'T FOR THEM.

GINGER: SO, WE CAN ALL BE MISSIONARIES.

JIM: AND WE ALL ARE MISSIONARIES, YEAH.

JOYCE: WELL, I BELIEVE THAT SHARING THE GOSPEL

OF JESUS CHRIST WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE NEEDY

IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST THING THAT WE CAN POSSIBLY DO.

I BELIEVE IT PUTS A SMILE ON GOD'S FACE AND I LOVE

TO HELP PEOPLE.

AND, YOU KNOW, THAT'S WHAT WE'RE ABOUT HERE

AT JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES IS SPREADING THE GOSPEL

AND YOU CAN HELP US DO THAT THROUGH YOUR PARTNERSHIP.

WOULD YOU PLEASE PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER BECOMING A PARTNER

WITH JOYCE MEYER MINISTRIES AND HELPING US SPREAD THE GOSPEL TO

LITERALLY MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD.

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU.

How American Gothic became an icon - Duration: 6:11.

It's two people, a house, and some sky.

Isn't it a little overrated?

Just a second, just a second... put down the three-tined pitchfork.

So, I understand that Grant Wood made an incredible painting.

You can see it in all the little details.

Like how the pitchfork's lines are repeated in the house,

and farmer's shirt.

Or how there are complementary patterns in the window drapes,

and the woman's dress.

The painting is technically complex.

But look at this, this is what you get when you Google "American Gothic parody."

Pages and pages of the exact same joke.

Star Wars, Minions...

(giggles) ... Minions.

There are so many parodies.

You don't get everywhere from Rocky Horror Picture Show,

"Janet,"

to Mulan,

"Not to mention they'll lose the farm,"

with nice lines alone.

These parodies happened because there was something bigger that made this painting so famous.

And understanding the secret to American Gothic's success

actually helped me to appreciate it for the first time.

Nobody would have guessed Grant Wood's painting would be a huge success.

Born near Anamosa, Iowa, he grew up in the big city: Cedar Rapids.

But in the 1920's he frequently traveled to Europe.

Impressionism was an inspiration. So was Pointillism.

Older artists influenced him too.

He said Jan van Eyck's look changed his art.

I think you can see it in these long, flat faces that Wood drew himself.

The result of that traveling was a guy who was half European artiste,

half Iowan farm boy.

So, when Wood passed by this house in Eldon, Iowa,

he saw something.

Something gothic - that weird, slightly ominous window -

and something American, too.

He made sketches of the house,

and enlisted his dentist, and yes, his sister,

as models for the painting.

There were some tweaks as the painting developed -

the weeds in front of the house disappeared.

The original rake became a pitchfork.

Wood promised he'd elongate his sister's face

so she wasn't recognized as the wife of this older dentist.

Wood completed it in 1930.

That year, the painting made its way to the Chicago Art Institute, for a contest.

But it got bronze.

Third place.

The first mention in The New York Times was dwarfed by an ad for stomach acid medication.

Wood sold American Gothic to the museum for $300.

That's the big question.

How did a third place, $300 painting,

featuring a dentist and the artist's sister,

turn into an icon?

America changed a lot from 1880 to 1920.

This chart shows all the jobs.

The big one to notice is agriculture.

In 1880, almost half of all Americans were on the farm.

Now let's go to 1920.

Agriculture went from 48% to just 25%.

In 1880, about 30% of Americans lived in cities.

By 1920, it had jumped to more than half.

America was split between city and country.

In the 20's and 30's,

city people started snarking.

The critic H.L. Mencken is a good example.

(Imagine Bill Maher, but more famous with 20 extra IQ points, and less pot.)

Mencken called small town people the "booboisie."

This kind of thing was common.

In 1920, Main Street was a hit novel that was basically about how small towns stunk.

American Gothic was perfectly balanced for this big, nasty fight.

Some city people saw the couple as the "booboisie."

Some country people saw them as authentic Americans.

Remember that blue and black dress, (or white and gold dress) that went viral on Buzzfeed?

That didn't go viral because it was a great picture,

it went viral because it was a great fight.

In 1930, American Gothic wasn't that different.

Grant Wood knew what he was doing.

This is Grant Wood's 1935 self-portrait, Return from Bohemia.

He's trying to look like a solid Iowa artist.

But he was always Bohemian, too.

In 1932, Wood painted Daughters of the Revolution.

He said it was his only satire.

An American myth blocked by women clinking their tea cups.

Or look at 1939's Parson Weems' Fable.

It honors the story of George Washington refusing to lie about chopping down a cherry tree.

Then, the curtain pulls back.

That American story is just something Parson Weems made up.

Farmer,

artist,

real American,

artistic snob.

Grant Wood kept everybody guessing.

If you think about it, his approach to art was not that different

than all those stupid parodies that try to have it both ways.

Half the time, they are honoring the painting, and the idea of a solid American couple.

And half the time they are calling it a joke.

What the satirists might not realize, is that when Grant Wood painted his sister and his dentist,

in front of a house in Eldon, Iowa,

he was doing the same thing.

Just in case you were worried about Grant Wood's sister hating her famous portrait,

she did convince her brother to paint another portrait,

that was a little more glamorous and probably a little more true to life.

RUSSIANS REACT TO FRENCH RAP | Mafia K'1 Fry - Pour ceux | REACTION TO FRENCH OLD RAP - Duration: 6:37.

Everybody has been requesting this video, so here we go

It's not new, right? -It's old hardcore rap

It's from the "Taxi" times

I actually think this song was in "Taxi"

Or maybe not

It's Drake

They made the same videos back then. They just have different clothes

Damn

See, lots of people, motorbikes

Both back then and now they have lots of people in the videos

Modern beats are way harder than this

Back then they put the focus on lyrics

Sounds a little like a pop song

This song could be on the radio

This song reminds me of the movie "Taxi"

He gave him a huge shawarma

I think it's called "kebab"

They used the "fish-eye" effect on the video

It's like he's filming on his phone

I think at that time it was considered "great quality"

Now we have too many songs and too many different artists

But back then you could buy one CD and listen to it for months

You were happy to see any new video, even if it's bad quality

Look, they don't wear any expensive clothes

They wear the clothes that we have in shops in Russia now

In second hand shops

Imagine if you see Sofiane in this video

He was a teenager at the time

He was going to school

I think it's 2005

This sounds monotonous

Of course, it's a low-budget video

The song is good, sounds positive

If I understood the lyrics, it would be more fun

When we were watching PNL, it was more interesting

Because there were something happening

Oh shit!

That's crazy!

Damn

Nice burnout -On a scooter

They love having tons of people and bikes in the videos

94th district

Holy shit!

Looks like the whole city came to the video shoot

Craziness

There are always manifestations in France

Now I see who participates in them

They have so much energy, I wish I had that much energy

They are just full of energy, that's crazy

From way back in the day, they love motorbikes and big people in the videos

I mean big crowds

You said "big people"

The video is kinda cool

If that song was 2min30 long, then I'd love it

It's too monotonous

I think it was great in 2005

There's so much different music nowadays

So that soon songs will be like: Intro, chorus, verse, chorus and outro

Songs will soon be 1min30 long

Because there's so much music out there, you don't have time to listen to everything

Although, there are GOOD long songs that you can listen to all day

For example, PNL -Yeah, PNL forever

Their songs are long but they're great

But this song, it's a classic from the "Taxi" times

We weren't into French music back in 2005 so we can't relate

And we also don't know French

It's an energetic song. This video is full of energy

It's full of it

Too much energy!

We wish you as much energy as those guys have

Chilly mornings, nice sunny skies during the day _ 092017 - Duration: 1:48.

Now we turn to our Michelle Park at the weather center for the latest updates.

Michelle, it was nice to have dust-free weather today,...I hope it stays this way.

Daniel, I'm happy to tell you that our air will stay fresh under a clear, blue sky tomorrow.

But as the days go on, the mornings are getting chillier, with some cities even expecting

morning lows in the single digits.

But during the day, you'll see a huge jump.

Most of the lows still remain in the teens, though, with Seoul starting off the morning

with 15 degrees Celsius, while Daegu and Busan begin at 13 and 18 degrees.

During the day, Seoul tops out at 26 degrees while Gwangju and Busan top out to 27 and

26 degrees.

The rest of our week through the weekend looks awesome.

It will stay clear, allowing us to take in some sunshine during the weekend.

But be sure to stay warm in the mornings and nights -- we're extra vulnerable to catching

a cold at this time of year.

I'll leave you with the weather conditions around the world.
