Waching daily Oct 1 2018

What I was saying earlier about women not dating

Asian guys, it's true.

That's why I won't tell a girl

I'm Asian until the third date.

I'm just kidding. You can't hide the fact

that you're Asian. You can downplay it.

It's always worse when I'm trying to downplay

how super Asian I am

when I'm at an Asian restaurant

and the waiter locks eyes with me,

starts to speak to me in my language

and I pretend – I'm like sorry, I don't speak your language.

I don't understand a single word

that's coming out of your mouth,

Dad.

I like that joke because in that joke

I just made my dad a waiter.

Like in real life my dad's a doctor,

and in real life my dad wanted me to be a doctor

but I'm a waiter.

Yeah.

Um, I recently broke up from a long-term relationship,

so I'm starting to date again. That's why I'm on Tinder.

But these days I find it hard to meet girls.

It's just like hard to meet girls.

Especially when I don't look at them, talk to them, or approach them.

Guys have this fantasy, right?

Where they just think that hot women will approach them

and be like

"I saw you not looking at me."

"That was so cool the way you didn't say or do anything."

"I just love guys that lurk in the shadows."

And I get it, right? The fear of rejection; talking to a stranger.

And there's a saying that's meant to give you courage,

'You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.'

And I like that saying, it made sense;

found out who said it.

Wayne Gretzky.

And I was like, what does the leading goal scorer of all time

know about the pain of missing shots?

Right?

Because life is complicated, Gretzky.

Dating is complicated, Great One.

You could be the best shooter in the world.

You could be like skating down the rink,

about to take your shot,

and then you realize

that some nets don't even like shooters.

They like other nets.

How To Make A Webcomic You'll Actually Finish - Duration: 21:13.

Hi, I'm Maya Kern

I work full time as a comic artist illustrator and product designer,

and this is how to make a webcomic you'll actually finish.

I started making Monster Pop! in 2012 while I was attending the Minneapolis College of Art and Design

At the time I planned to make this comic for one or two years

in between school work and the short story comics I was making

Now I've been making Monster Pop! for six years, and I still have nearly two or three years left before it'll be done

I've learned a lot over these six years and I have a ton of knowledge that I wish I had going into Monster Pop! and

I'd like to share that with you all now

so, a bit more about me:

I attended MCAD from 2009 to 2013 and I studied comic art

During that time I made a number of short comics including Fairy Fail, How To Be A Mermaid, and Redden

After college I moved out to California,

Took a bunch of commissions and freelance work,

made some silly comics about my life, and burned through pretty much all of my savings trying to find a steady job.

I eventually found a steady gig working for Gaia Interactive, but through a combination of that and taking too much other freelance work,

I overworked myself and my body and ended up being unable to draw for over a month because of how badly I injured myself

This was one of the hardest times of my life and it was unsustainable for many reasons

I was forcing myself to do more than I can handle. I

Wasn't taking care of myself and I wasn't making enough money to take a break. But because my body gave out, I had to.

This failure helped me learn what I could and couldn't do and what is sustainable for me. Now

I've been making Monster Pop! for nearly six years, and I work full-time with my wife making comics and illustrations and merchandise in a healthy

sustainable way.

so,

How do you make a webcomic you'll actually finish?

To give yourself the best chance to carry your comic to completion, you need: passion,

sustainability, a schedule, strategies for tackling your big favorite idea, and financial stability.

Make sure this idea is something you have passion for

How often do you think about it? Do you lay in bed plotting and scheming and world building?

How sick are your friends of hearing you talk about it?

It's fine if you want to make something popular

But comics are a lot of work, and if you do not love your idea

it will not be worth the time and energy you put into it. the

time you spend on your comic is time

you're not spending with friends or loved ones, or doing your job, or other things that are important to you.

So this comic should be important to you, too

Comics are too much work not to love them

Passion is what gets you through all the hard work. if it's not enjoyable, it's not sustainable

What does make your comics sustainable? You've got a great idea that you love, but you can't pull through on passion alone

How well do you know your subject matter?

for instance

If you are writing a magical girl comic set in the Wild West, you should probably learn about horses, guns,

the law or lack thereof, saloon culture, the climate, and the vernacular

for example

If a horse has a red ribbon on its tail

that means it kicks! now that you know that it can add color and maybe a plot point to your story, and

If someone shows up to your old Western with an assault rifle, it will break suspension of disbelief

Because it will feel out of place

even though magic exists, and

Everyone knows that no good licky-mouth nibbler Sal's raisin' sand at the old watering hole

He's gonna get kicked galley-west before the hour's up

And if you do your research, you too can sound like you grew up with a mouthful of sand and a butt full of guns

The point is doing your research will make you more comfortable with your subject matter and will make it easier to work with

It's not enough to just know about your subject matter, you have to be able to draw it too

Comics are by and large a visual medium, and you're going to have to be able to convey your ideas through drawing

So you should take your time to learn how to draw your characters, setting, the type of scenery, and backgrounds

you'll need, the props, and everything else in your world

Luckily, the better you know your subject ,the more you understand it the easier it'll be to draw. as you can see

here's my very bad horse drawing on the-- on the left, and then some very good horse drawings by people who actually

Took the time to learn how to draw horses

Some important questions about your drawing style, because one of these drawings took 20 minutes and the other one took 8 hours

How time-consuming is your drawing style? How natural is it?

How consistent is it? How expressive or emotive is it? How stylized is it?

Can you simplify

complicated things like crowd scenes or large backgrounds without sacrificing immersion? how well does it convey movement or action?

Will your drawings be colored? How detailed and time-consuming will your tone/color be?

Simple isn't bad

Remember your goal is a comic artist isn't to draw the prettiest picture in the world. It is to communicate your story

Frequently comic artists syndicated and newspapers will find ways to simplify and streamline their drawings to hit tight deadlines

Cathy by Cathy Guisewite is

Just a classic. It's not pretty, it's not gorgeous

It communicates exactly what it needs to

it's

not bad for it to not be pretty, because it accomplishes everything it needs to

Peanuts is simple and charming, but again it's fast for a reason and it communicates the ideas it needs to.

A simple style is often used to communicate charm or humor

But it can also present a harsh minimalism or be used to convey an emotion behind the story or a character

Oftentimes it can be useful to simplify parts of your drawings and provide detail in areas of greater interest

Many comics will leave areas blank

This is called negative space, both has a compositional tool to provide visual impact and a way to reduce drawing time

It's also common to see screen tones or visual elements like action lines, flowers, sparkles,

and shapes to replace or aid backgrounds to save time, particularly in shoujo manga. In Japan

it's common for mangaka to have assistants, or for groups of artists called circles, like CLAMP,

to collaborate to create comics, and in mainstream Western comics

It is common for freelance artists to be hired on a contract basis as pencilers, inkers,

colourists, or letterers, instead of creating entire comics alone

Still some artists just want to put us all the shame. Some comics also have very slow release schedules

Speaking of your schedule, you have to make one. To make your schedule, you need to know: how frequently you want to update,

How many strips or pages you want to post per update,

How long on average a single strip or page will take you to create, and how much time you can allocate

Per week to work on your comic

Unlike print comics which typically update biweekly or monthly, or on a per book basis,

Web comics usually update weekly or multiple times a week

This is very different from print media, both as a creator and a consumer

This slows the reading pace and means that instead of consuming a chapter or book as a whole

The reader gets tiny bite-sized chunks of story

this can make the pacing of web comics seem really slow. as a

Creator this means that how you work has to change. An artist working for print media can work like a one-man

Assembly line and complete all their sketches for a chapter

Before they even start inking, but most web comic artists have to complete one batch of updates before moving on to the next

Usually on a per-page basis

This can make the comic as a whole less consistent since instead of working on a batch of 30 pages all at the same time

The artist is probably completing the pages one by one in order.

I put anywhere from two to six hours of work into an average Monster Pop! strip

I usually update three strips per week

which means on any given week I could be doing between 6 and 18 hours of work on this comic, and

It roughly averages out to about fifteen hours of work per week

To get an idea of how long your work flow takes you you'll probably have to draw some test pages to try things out

But I'll talk more about that later.

Comics take a long time

Do you know how long you want your comic to be?

Because however long you think it is

You should probably at least double that.

So how do you schedule your comic?

First you want to break your writing down into manageable chunks

Start by listing your overarching goals for a given chapter or scene, including character development and story themes,

Then create an outline with concrete events and emotional beats

Following your outline and keeping your goals in mind, write a script that further cements your ideas into a logical progression of events

Sketch or thumbnail your scenes and then finish the art

[I'm going to cut the subtitles so you can read the slide]

Each stage of my process works to resolve a problem set up by the stage before it

My goal shows the heart of a given scene or chapter

It's the meat and potatoes of the story. Each step beyond that provides context and clarification

Once I hit my sketch stage I put dialogue from my script into my canvas and feel out the rhythm of the strip

Because I've been making monster pop for so long

I don't need to thumbnail it, and I can feel where a good place to end a strip is, but if you're uncertain

I'd recommend thumbnailing your page compositions before moving to sketches

But for me fitting the right amount of dialogue for the emotion of the scene is the most important part of my sketch process

I use 3d models in Google Sketchup (which is FREE) to

Set the stage for the scene

Also, I typically end up adding a lot of little touches to my sketches that aren't in my script; things like the teachers dialogue in

the background here or how George and Percy's conversation moves them out of the classroom to keep the dialogue flowing, and

Sometimes I'll add visual gags or jokes that are inspired by how I've staged the scene

This adds flavor to the story and helps to flesh out the world

Finishing the art is the easiest and most time-consuming part of making comics. by this point

I've already made pretty much all my decisions, but making art takes time

And once you've set the parameters of how you're going to draw your story

There's not a lot you can do to alter how long it takes to make it

You love your story and you want to tell it but you've got a problem:

It's way too long, and you have little to no experience making comics

Sound familiar? Well, don't worry because I'm here to help you out with some hot tips

So here are my strategies for tackling your big favorite idea

Don't front load your readers with too much exposition

When you have a big epic story that you love it can be tempting to dump all the world-building you've spent ages

creating on your readers, but nobody actually enjoys that

Sure, there are some kids in the crowd who actually read the opening screen crawl of star wars movies

But do you enjoy it? Or are you waiting for the story to hurry up and happen?

Don't try to squeeze a huge story into us all page count

when you try to squish your 300 page epic into 30 pages, you don't get a cool story, you get a recap episode.

A recap episode for an anime you love is boring, a recap episode for a story you've never read is just pointless

When you're squeezing as much story into as little space as possible

There's no room to get to know your characters or your world, and no reason for the reader to get invested

Trying to tell your whole story in too little time is just a lot of look

Focus in on one aspect of your idea and refine it into something consumable, like how avant-garde fashion presents something strange and high-concept

Which then inspires ready wear fashion which trickles into department stores and eventually into fast fashion and bargain retailers

You don't necessarily want to be the resale store at the end of the cycle

But you do want to make something consumable and everyone who's watched The Devil Wears Prada

Already knows about this process

Instead, why don't you try honing your focus?

Try writing a one-shot in the world

You've built, maybe a one-shot about the main character in a situation with smaller stakes, or a vignette about a minor character

This way you can practice writing and drawing things for your story, but you don't have to commit to a huge epic

It's also a great way to make some test pages and figure out your process and how long it'll take you to draw a page

and

Finally, it's time to talk about the big scary elephant in the room

money

You're going to be putting in a lot of time and hard work into your comic

But you also have to be able to make a living

How much can you monetize your comic? How can you monetize it?

How do you design comic elements with monetization in mind? And at what point does your comic become financially sustainable?

Advertising is probably the easiest and least effective way to monetize your content.

As the Internet has evolved views and clicks have become less and less valuable and more people use ad blockers, and can you blame them?

You probably use one too

In most cases even popular web comics can usually at best only pay their server fees with the money they make off advertising

Tapas may be an exception to this as they have launched an experimental

pay to read model where readers can pay a small amount of tapas currency or watch an ad or two in

Order to gain access to comic updates. I've heard that some creators have achieved great success with this, but I haven't tried myself

So I can't say

Because I am not part of this pay to read model and because my comic is not exclusive to tapas

The amount of money I make off of advertising is basically nothing.

I even removed ads from my personal site because they were so inconsequential

even YouTube celebrities, who are the poster children for ad revenue, have been

Diversifying in order to not have to rely on ad money because of how unstable it is. if you have seen one of your favorite

youtubers

Launching a merchandise line, It's because ads just aren't reliable enough

crowdfunding

Everyone and their dog has seen at least one crowdfunding campaign for a webcomic

you may be

interested in utilizing a subscription model like patreon which allows content

Creators to charge monthly for exclusive access to extra content and can provide financial support in a more long-term sustainable manner

Or you may be thinking about using Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, or a similar platform in order to crowd fund for a large project

Such as a print run for your webcomic. many artists including myself

use both. a

Subscription model can help directly pay you a wage for all the hard work you put into your comic and you can even set

Milestone goals when the monthly pledges hit certain amounts, like being able to create more comic pages per month once your patreon pays your rent

When you run a patreon it is unlikely that supporters will find you on the patreon site

your patrons will have to come entirely from your own fan base, and many of them will be your diehard fans.

A Kickstarter or similar crowdfunding campaign is great for funding a specific project

It won't pay you a monthly wage and it will take a lot of work to figure out how much money you need to raise

in order to pay for this cool thing you want to make

But Kickstarter has Discoverer pages and lots of users have perused the platform in order to find cool new projects to support

So it's a great way to fund a print run for your book and gain new readers

Merchandising is the cool new kid on the block

Bringing in all the hot dollars. It's how I make most of my money and how many other content creators do too

Obviously the first thing to merchandise in a comic is the comic itself

but not everyone wants to buy a print copy of your free online comic, so it's good to have a few options.

When I first created Monster Pop! in 2012

I wasn't expecting to be making it for very long

and I definitely wasn't planning to merchandise it, and thus I have found myself six years deep into a difficult to monetize comic

Sad!

Now that I'm older and wiser

I wish I had created a simple recognizable logo or icon that I could slap on some sweet, sweet merch

The best monetizable iconography is simple,

recognizable, wearable,

versatile, and easy to print

Keep your design to two to three colors and make it something that can go on a sticker or a shirt

make sure it's referential to the comic as a whole but is something you'd want to be seen wearing in public

A smart designer will even plant the design in the comic itself. a school shirt, the sign design for the cafe the story takes place in

Or a symbol that represents the alien army your main character is enlisted in, or whatever

If I'd been smart

I would have designed a unique and wearable school shirt for the college my characters attend, and I would have had them wear it more

often

So at what point does your comic become financially stable? I

I hate to break it to you

But there is not a lot of money in comics and it's very difficult to make a living

solely on comics. A small percentage of comic artists can make a living wage making comics for hire for

Publishers like Marvel, First Second, Dark Horse, or Boom!, or by monetizing their webcomic, but it is a long hard slug

More likely than not you will have to make your comic while working some other job

Whether it's a nine-to-five office job, working part or full-time in the service industry, or taking freelance illustrations gigs to pay rent

There is no shame in needing a day job

Many of your favorite comic artists have or have had a day job while pursuing an art career.

I personally make most of my money

Making art that I can sell in multiple products in my online store, and only a relatively small part of my income

comes from my comic

I would love for my comic to make enough money to be my full-time job

But because that's not the case I allocate the amount of time and work

I can do per week on my comic based on what I can afford to take away from the work that makes me money

Having a long term fan base for my comic helps me sell my products, and I do make around $1,000 a month on patreon

But it doesn't pay all my wife's and my bills, and the money I make from Kickstarter

Gets funneled directly into funding more business expenses like manufacturing costs, and it doesn't actually end up in my pocket

So, too long didn't read

One, make sure you are passionate about this. Two, make your work sustainable

Three, make a schedule

Four, tackle your project intelligently, and five, have a plan for financial success

Caroline Covert: Student Success Spotlight - Duration: 4:08.

My name is Caroline Covert and I'm a senior in Marketing. I think I really started

getting interested in business because of my desire to add value to peoples'

lives and that in itself is actually the definition of marketing - It's creating

and delivering value to your clients, customers, partners, and society at large.

Within the business major you are required to communicate, collaborate

and network with your peers around you. It allows creativity when you're

creating a strategic business plan to penetrate your target market and also

requires a lot of knowledge about the world's economic culture. All of these

segments of business is what I've been passionate about since I was young

because of the example set by my parents. They inspired me to follow my career

goals and be the successful leader I am today.

I have utilized the resume building workshops to get professional advice on

how to make my resume comparable to other competitors for the position I'm

applying for. The assistance in the OPCD really helped me prioritize the notable

activities that I've been involved in such as leadership and service

activities in a way that will make a lasting impression on an employer.

The most valuable asset that I have experienced from the OPCD was actually

the opportunity to attend the career fairs. Now that I think about it, I

think I've attended five career fairs in my time as an Auburn student.

This summer, I interned with Thompson Tractor and the very first time I interacted

with this company was at the fall 2017 career fair. There, I was one of two

marketing interns who had no inside connections. I was working with product

development, strategy development, data analysis, digital media and event

planning. I learned so much from this experience and I kind of got to get

my feet wet and all of these different segments of marketing and it prepared me

for the real world more that I could ever imagine.

My advice going into the career fair would be to practice your elevator

speech in the mirror the night before. That way you can monitor your energy,

gauge your body language and things like that. That way, you'll make a really

lasting impression to your employers.

I am the president of the Auburn Marketing Association and we're a

student-led organization that really focuses on professional development

through these speakers that we bring in every single month to our meetings.

We bring them in from companies all over the country from small or large to local

and far away. These speakers bring with them internship and full-time

career opportunities and they always provide really great results to our

students when they speak. We also participate in philanthropy events

throughout our organization, every single month, so that we can give back to

our Auburn campus that we all love. Once again, we network with each other.

Networking within each other is so important because one day you're

going to build these business relationships upon each other.

As a freshman, I wish someone would have told me that I could go ahead and

just apply for every position and every organization thrown my way.

It is so much better to be involved than not involved and trying to get it later in

your senior year or your junior year when time is coming to an end. It is an

awesome thing to make those connections for the real world one day because,

ultimately, we are going to be co-workers or even competitors and just

resources for each other in the business world. It's an awesome way to make those

friendships and establish your reputation from the very beginning.

How to Determine Right-of-Way...and When to Go :: Smart Sunday #57 - Duration: 56:27.

Hi there smart drivers. Rick with Smart Drive Test talking to you tonight about

rules of the road and right-of-way. I had a question from one of the smart drivers

last week and that was impetus for starting this discussion about

right-of-way rules because unfortunately the smart driver was not successful on

his road test so that was the poll that I put up on the community tab and talked

about that and so we're gonna go over some of the rules of the road and talk a

little bit about that and how rules of the road no longer you know no more

stamp out traffic crashes than criminal law stamps of crime so they are

guidelines that hopefully make traffic more predictable so there's quite a

number of people here already Stephan Stephan is here lucky is here

Edgar is here Kayla's here and tonight is here Tim is here from basic Joomla

tutorials Tim does websites for with Joomla and whatnot Janet's here and

Corey is here bricks for wheels both those both Tim and Corey are moderators

and for videos that I get for you and suggests for you they'll have a look at

choreo get those up free and does really well so we're gonna get over to the

PowerPoint presentation further quickly here and get into that because I've had

some feedback from people who are watching on the replay that they want to

see the presentation and you know don't want to stick around for the question

and answer period but so we'll get to that and as well be sure to head over to

the smart drive test website and sign up for the newsletter over there and

that'll help you out and as well if you're new to smart drive test be sure

to subscribe give it a thumbs up and if you like what you see here leave a

comment and share the video is all that gets all the information out for smart

drivers who are working towards a license and working to be safe drivers

or started careers of see it started career as a truck or bus driver so

that's what we do here at smart drive test matt is here trevor is here sylvan

is here and just as well in the comments just let me know where you're tuning in

from in the world there and we can help you out and i had a request from just

looking for it here the Kayla wanted the video on the

maneuverability test in Ohio and yes Kayla that's been on my list for some

time and it is far overdue I need to get that video done for you all right

excellent brothers mob you passed your license please head over to the 100k

campaign Cory will put that up for you and we'll get that working for you yes

and fixing last week we had some problems with the questions in the

comments here and it wasn't working out so I think that's been fixed I think

YouTube has been on that because no longer is a dumping all my my comments

into the review section so that's working so Millie's here from the Bronx

and Patrick has a question so just hang on your question there Patrick and maybe

I'll answered in the presentation and he is here from Buffalo New York excellent

from that's great Darvish is here Victor's here left-hand

turn and now rivers to get back on the wheel Victor one of the things I'm gonna

say and firstly I'm sorry to hear that you were involved in a crash on a

left-hand turn Victor I want you to get back right on start driving again

because it the longer you leave it the more difficult it's gonna be so get back

to driving as quickly as you can if you're not comfortable start driving in

residential areas and places where there isn't a lot of traffic and then kind of

work your way out and I say this to anybody who's been involved in a crash

whether it's in a car on a motorcycle on a bicycle or whatnot you need to get

back and start doing it again because the longer you leave it the more

difficult it's going to be so make sure that you get back to driving as soon as

possible Brandon thank you so much you are most welcome for glad we can help

you out the letter A by itself so I think that's what was happening that was

one of the things thanks for that Tim Corey's put the video up for four-way

stops there and just bear with me here I'm going to get over to the PowerPoint

presentation I can't answer questions during the PowerPoint presentation and

but I will come back and answer your questions and if I do miss your question

in the question and answer period makes that you asked the question again it's

just because there's a lot of people on the livestream and the questions go back

pretty quickly so if I miss it just ask me again and I'll be more than happy to

get to that too and if I don't get to it tonight in the live stream send me an

email rip that smart drive test calm and be

more than happy to help you out or leave a comment in one of the videos I try and

get to close every day or two days at the least

alright so Darby she's here thank you so much for all that and Brandon excellent

okay and here we go just bear with me for one sec here all right okay so

tonight we're talking about rules of the road and right-of-way and we're talking

about rules of the road because the question in the poll that I asked on the

community tab was if you're at a two-way stop sign so you're at one stop sign the

traffic on the other side is at a stop sign and it's a major road there are two

vehicles on the other side turning right and you're turning left do you have to

wait for those two vehicles to go before you proceed and technically according to

the rules of the road yes you do if there is sufficient gap between the

first vehicle in the second vehicle say for example the driver the second

vehicle isn't paying attention you might be able to sneak in between the two

vehicles but for the purposes of a road test you would let those two

right-turning vehicles turn before you proceeded because at a two-way stop and

I'll talk about this little more detail straight through vehicles have the

right-of-way returning vehicles and right-hand turning vehicles have the

right-of-way over left turning vehicles so we're going to talk about that a

little bit more so that's what we're talking about tonight there we go yeah

and of course it went all the way to the bottom so Paige down there we go so I'm

Rick August I do have a PhD in legal history as it relates to traffic and

specifically policing for those who you don't know legal history is the study of

police in courts and prisons and my expertise is in policing as it relates

to traffic throughout the 1990s I was a truck driver I drove

mostly in North America through Ontario Western Canada and delivered Freight

into the United States up and down the eastern seaboard when I moved to

Australia in 2002 I drove for Greyhound and a regional bus line there called V

line which was a bus that connected the rail lines so drove basically out of

Melbourne I took Ballarat and back every night so I've been a licensed commercial

driving instructor since 1997 and as I mentioned I have a doctorate in legal

history so I'm fairly qualified talking about all matters relating to getting a

license regardless of class motorcycles trucks buses cars and specifically air

brakes and I'm working on an air brake book right now which I hope will be up

next month it's been a long process in getting this done and on Saturday

congratulations to all the smart drivers who have subscribed to the channel we

passed the 75 thousand mark and according to social blade we're on

target to be to hit the hundred thousand mark as of the end of January and I'm

hoping that we can do that before the new year and I'm hoping that I can ramp

this up a little bit and get that just push ourselves over the hundred thousand

mark now it would be the goal for this year that'd be really great so

congratulations thank you because without you the smart drivers this this

really lofty goal would not be possible alright so tonight we're talking about

rules of the road if you haven't seen the video already be sure to head over

to the smart drive test website and sign up for the newsletter because they did

sign to send out a newsletter announcing tonight's live stream and giving this

video so you can have a look at this and I go through all the rules of the road

for different roads and those types of things and some fairly you know

specialized roads and that sort of thing and I talk about construction and what

not so it's a good overall video and I go out and stand at the intersections

and talk about each intersection that I'm going that you're gonna encounter on

a road test when you're driving alright and if you've been successful in passing

a road test in the last week make sure that you head over to the smart drive

test website and sign up for the 100 inque campaign in the next year we're

going to help a hundred thousand drivers earn their license regardless of class

of licence so motorcycle cars trucks buses and air brakes so if you've done

that head over there sign up for that and as well everybody who signs up for

the hundred thousand Kay campaign is going to go in a draw that will be the

draw for a hundred dollar gas cart every month so you're gonna be a lot of

legible you're gonna be eligible for that that's who's trying to say eligible

for the hunt for the hundred dollar gas card alright so Road rules are often

broken as you know anybody who's driven knows that people kind of use Rose Road

rules as a loose guideline and most people who drive and break road rules

see them as kind of you know it's a victimless crime for example when they

speed they're not hurting anybody else so they see it as a victimless crime if

they don't come to a complete stop at a stop sign it's not hurting anybody else

so most people would be of the opinion that when they drive if nobody else gets

hurt it's a victimless crime so but as I like to say to people because people

have said to me that you know don't always obey the road rules and those

types of things and most people don't after they get their license a short

period after they get their license we know that after three months most people

subscribe to social driving they follow the traffic flow

they don't come to complete stops at stop signs and you know they follow too

close they don't keep a good distance and whatnot so all of those all of those

traits of social driving apply a short time after getting a license and some

people say to me well you need to follow the road rules well Road rules no more

prevent traffic crashes than criminal law prevents crime so Road rules for

most people who drive serve as a loose guideline of how they're supposed to

behave and act on the roadway all right so just going quickly through the road

rules that do apply to those of you who are going to get a license to weigh

stops so the basic fundamental rules for two-way stops are that traffic on the

minor road is yielding and giving way to the traffic on the major road this is

what the purpose of most two-way stops you'll also see two-way stops at T

intersections so straight through traffic has

right-of-way overturning traffic and right-turning vehicles have the

right-of-way over left turning vehicles as you can see here in the top picture

there that car B will have the right-of-way over car a Akari will have

to wait because it's turning right and this is the other side of the road

obviously they're driving on the left side of the road but for the right

turning vehicle there which would be the left turning vehicle for those of us who

drive on the right here in North America car B has the right-of-way of a car a

now the bottom one both vehicles are turning left so both vehicles can turn

left at the same time and this is common at four-way stops where essentially it

gets to the point where yes the first vehicle to arrive and the vehicle on the

right but the alternating lanes of traffic will take turns and both lane

both left turning vehicles can turn left at the same time now again I'll just say

this as the as I repeat again and again even though you have the right of way

you can be right or you can be dead right if somebody else insists that

they're going to go you're gonna have to give up the right-of-way so yield and

give way signs you're going to treat yield signs the same as you're going to

treat two-way stops it's the same rule so even though you're not required to

come to a complete stop straight through traffic it has the

right-of-way overturning traffic and right-hand turning vehicles have the

right-of-way over left turning wheels make sure that you look twice before and

go once and this picture here this instance here at the bottom where car a

is turning right and car B is turning left and again this is on the left side

of the road would be car a would be turning laughing car a would be turning

right for those of us in North America the yield sign and the stop sign the

give way sign has the right-of-way over the stop sign they can go first but it's

very unlikely even in a road test situation that one of both of those cars

are going to drive arrive at the intersection at exactly the same time

but if they're both sitting there waiting for the cross traffic to go then

it's going to be the right hand turning vehicle that has the right-of-way

because car a does have to give way to the other vehicles and it's turning left

all right so four-way stops as I said first vehicle to arrive the vehicle on

the right has the right-of-way any road users that's in the intersection has the

right-of-way so here in this image the pedestrian in the intersection has the

right-of-way and again watch the video on four-way stops which Corey's already

put up and you will see that the all turning lanes of traffic will take turns

so if one lane of traffic is going straight through the two vehicles across

from each other will both go straight through at the same time or alternately

if they're both turning left they'll turn left at the same time and then the

other lane of traffic will go so it alternates back and forth alright

freeways there another place that you have to give the right-of-way and in a

number of states in the US they will have yield signs at the top of the

on-ramp that which indicates that the onus of responsibility is on the merging

driver and it really is on the merging driver and if you do this correctly when

you're coming out on the on-ramp which leads into the acceleration lane and

once you're on the acceleration Lane you'll see the continuity lines on the

Left continuity lines are road markings that are half as long and twice as wide

and continuity lines are indicate that the lane that you were in if you have

those on the left side of your vehicle is either going to end or it's going to

exit so that indicates that you're on the acceleration lane so as you're

coming out on the on-ramp you're heading to the acceleration you're looking for

your gap you're matching your speed to meet that gap and you're going to adjust

your speed accordingly so here in this image you can see the red vehicle at the

back the red vehicle is probably going to merge in behind the green vehicle so

you as the driver when adjusting your speed to merge in between behind that

vehicle because I can tell you now that if you have two or three vehicles in

front of you such as this image here they're not going to get up to speed

very quickly oftentimes they're just kind of kind of meander out onto the

freeway which is not what I recommend get the vehicle up to speed as quickly

as possible now the reason I put this up here in terms of the top three reasons

for crashes and I've talked about this before speeding failing to yield and

following too close and you can see that failing to yield or failing to give way

is number two in terms of crashes so this comes back to the thing about you

can be right or you can be and right you need to give up the right

of way sometimes and even though you have the right of way don't insist that

you have the right of way so you know see that as the number two reason for

road crashes and then of course following too close which I talked about

the fundamentals of defensive driving are space management if you're not near

anything it's less likely you're gonna hit something so case studies so what

prompted all of this in terms of talking about Road rules and who has the

right-of-way was a question from a smart driver who was unsuccessful on a road

test and asked me who had the right-of-way because the smart driver

was making a left-hand turn at a two-way stop and across from where the driver

had stopped there were two vehicles making a right-hand turn well one turned

and then the I guess the driving examiner said something about the fact

that he had to go now I can't make specific judgments on that call by the

by the examiner because I wasn't there so I don't know the exact situation but

I do know and I can tell you definitively that if you're waiting to

turn left in there are two vehicles across from you at a two-way stop

waiting to turn right then you have to wait for those two right-hand turning

vehicles it may be mitigated by the amount of time between the two vehicles

turning right but for the most part 75% of smart drivers did in fact get this

question right that you need to wait for the to right turning vehicles

okay so yeah unfortunately this is incorrect and I apologize about that so

that's what you need to do and that's what the road rules are and again it

comes back to the right-of-way is never taken the right-of-way is always given

so in other words if one of these vehicles is in the intersection you're

gonna have to wait for that vehicle in the intersection doesn't matter who has

the right-of-way all right and there goes okay so predict traffic patterns so

essentially rules of the road as it says down here at the bottom in blue if

followed Road rules create predictable traffic patterns so if everybody more or

less follows the road rules it will set up predictable traffic patterns and if

you're looking ahead at controlled intersections uncontrolled intersections

that in turning lanes and those types of things and you're watching other

if most people are adhering to the road rules it's going to create predictable

traffic patterns and you are going to be able to predict and interpret what

individual road users are doing and again this comes back to what I've

talked about before with knowing the characteristics of the vehicles and the

roads this is going to help as well and as well spring summer fall and other

times of the year you're gonna have different vehicles on the roadway which

are going to set up unpredictable traffic patterns

so this snowmobiler here coming down over the bank onto a roadway has to give

way because essentially the rule of giving way from a private driveway a

roadway applies to the rider on the snowmobile but he or she may not know

that and may not give up the right-of-way so if you're coming up

there and you see that snowmobile coming down there I would strongly recommend

that you have your foot covering the brake and you're taking evasive action

so that you can potentially stop or avoid a crash with that snowmobiler

coming down over the bank okay so good luck on your road test and remember when

it comes to rules of the road and right-of-way pick the best answer not

necessarily the right answer so just go back over and then I'll start answering

questions here all right transition ok so we got that hi there we're back and

lots of questions I'm sure all right and as I said if I don't get to your

questions just to ask your question again and remind me and I'll be more

than happy to get to your question okay so Darby SH I'm struggling to drive

straight sometimes my wheels right or left I feel a micromanage my steering

can you suggest any strategies control too much movement yes

Darvish what you're doing is you're not looking far enough down the road so you

need to look farther down the road and look for landmarks and toriel put the

video up for you on sending your vehicle in the roadway and that'll help you to

stop micromanaging the steering wheel because you really shouldn't be

micromanaging the steering wheel in this day and age I mean unless there's

something wrong with your vehicle and the steering needs to be fixed or

whatnot for but for the most part you should be able to look farther down the

road and hold the vehicle in Center of the roadway all right Odie I

downloaded all of your Anki YouTube discussion it was the daily background

in my car like driving it just passed my license last August only by watching

your videos oh that's awesome Odie congratulations make sure you head

over to the smart drive test website and sign up for 100k campaign register for

that and yeah that lets us know they're mad like the Terminator picture there

yeah always came up on the road rage incident so yeah you wouldn't want that

happening thanks so much Odie god be nice if I got a plaque of appreciation

from these other authorities to show what I'm doing is working all right so

mr. Odie is from southern Texas that's great edinburg texas yeah right on the

boy there I'm so thankful with all of your efforts generosity as youssef

initely share your time in driving safety thank you so much for that Odie

that's really great River Thompson how does the right-of-way work when there is

a bike lane to your right and you are turning right okay so River these do

vary a little bit from jurisdiction to jurisdiction in terms of bicycle lanes

but here in British Columbia where I live and in many states and provinces

it's going to be a solid white line that is going to divide the bicycle lane from

the main road of traffic and when that happens you cannot deviate into the

bicycle lane if it is a dotted line as you're approaching the intersection then

yes you can move into the bicycle lane to turn right so if it's a solid white

line you cannot move into the bicycle lane if it's a dotted white line then

you can indeed move into the bicycle lane to turn right and there are many

states that they do have dotted white lines and you can move in there now here

in Vernon British Columbia we have at one of our busier intersections bicycle

lane that is a different color it's green it's a dotted white line and it

crosses it crosses over the entrance of the slip lane the turning lane so off

obviously as a vehicle who a driver who's going to be turning right into the

slip plane you're gonna have to cross over the bicycle lane so it's a

that you do a shoulder check and move safely across that bicycle lane okay all

right Trevor g1 going to expire December but I

haven't got my g2 or G yet I don't think there's enough time for me to get my

full G licence before then well I have to start all over or not no Trevor if

you have a g1 and you go and get your g2 I think that extends your your period of

time so if you've been in there you still get your G you can go and start

the process and it will just keep everything else going okay so make sure

that you do that just go and start the process and start working towards

getting you're doing your test and carrying on okay November 5th the RV's

you're gonna do great okay thanks so much Derby Sh appreciate this up welcome

to the smart driver community here and now that's great

my classmate is leading today I'm sorry here I'm sorry here that Jaden that's

that's terrible my condolences alright excellent so if you're watching on the

replay be sure to subscribe be sure to give a thumbs up and share the video

leave a comment all that helps out the new drivers who are working towards a

licensed veteran drivers who are working to remain crash free and CDL drivers who

are working to start a career as a truck or bus driver that's what we do here so

consider subscribing consider giving it a thumbs up if you haven't already and

as well as I said airbrakes explained simply is an

electronic ebook that i've rewritten the air brakes manual and tried to explain

it simply in a better format for you and giving you the exact information that

you need to pass the CDL air brakes test both in the United States and here in

Canada mostly for the United States but it's just about ready and I'm hoping to

have it up for November I just sent it back to the graphic designer with some

of the final things I got to shoot a couple of videos for it but it's going

well and I'm hoping to get that up shortly for you and the other thing I'm

working on is a winter driving course and I'm going to have one of the live

streams here working it's winter because it's feeling pretty

chilly outside it's starting to rain here so and I think the connector

between Kelowna British Columbia and Merritt tonight was predicted they're

predicting that it's going to get 10 centimeters of snow up on the high

mountain passes so it is just about wintertime here as well

AB good evening how are you where are you tuning in from Darvish Rick you have

a list of things that will be an automatic fail on a road test it would

like to know this is I don't want to make any mistakes on my road test

Darvish what I would suggest to you is to focus on what you are going to do

right on your road test and it's more important to focus on that however it

one of the same time derbyshire there is a video here on what to look for in

terms of things that are going to cause you to fail your road test ok excellent

ok chronic do MNS tires past winter tires to insurance companies yes they do

chronic there's a video do I have a video on winter tires yes

with Gary at tire land here in Vernon I have an interview with him he talks

about winter tires and M&S stands for mud and snow and yes they will pass for

winter tires and in the mountain passes and those types of things here in bridge

Columbia and other provinces ok Sebastien I had this person refused to

slow speed and let me merge on when I had to do in point 4 miles I was upset

with him he needs to be tuning in on Sunday nights Thank You Sebastian but I

don't think he's going to as I said the onus of responsibility in terms of

merging onto a highway or a freeway is really with the person who is merging so

unfortunately and I don't think that you know even if the person does to know

it's not gonna help them Liam what does a bike symbol with two arrows above it

mean in New York City Liam I would have to specifically look at that but where

are the arrows pointing Liam that would be the other thing I need to know okay

ah watching you from Windsor I passed my full G after watching your videos now my

wife's is going for a g2 test I told her to watch your videos that's awesome so

congratulations they're in Windsor that's really awesome Ashley's here I'm

doing fine how are you tonight Ashley epic you're right about my four-way stop

being complicated sometimes but my general rule is that I usually let the

vehicle on the right to go first then myself epic most of the time that's

gonna work for you if the four-way stop isn't too busy but if you find that the

four-way stops are busy as they may be during morning rush hour or in the

afternoon you're gonna want to alternate with the alternating lanes of traffic

because it's gonna move more vehicles through the intersection as opposed to

always giving way to the vehicle on the right because if you give way to the

vehicle on the right it may confuse other drivers as to what's going on so

what I might suggest is is have a look at the video and then just kind of maybe

go down to a four-week stop when they are busy and have a look at how the

traffic moves through that and that will give you a little bit more understanding

of how all that works okay Jamie Davis is getting upset yeah okay halt phases

here hi there halt halt phase hopefully tonight you're not gonna get banned as

it was good happening last week so Ashley is in from Florida that's great

as the weather starting to cool down there Ashley in Florida

24 pretty I'm related but sometimes at night I can't see the lanes when two

lanes suddenly turn to three or vice-versa yes that can be a problem

Chuck for sure and be sure to have a look at the night driving video and that

will give you some tips and techniques for being able to find the road and

determining when the lanes are going to change for example when they're gonna go

from two to three lanes or three lanes to two lanes okay so have a look at all

of that Hall phase how many people get their licenses in Canada per year you do

you know I don't know how many in Canada Hall phase but I do know that in the

province of British Columbia which has a population of about 12 million there are

60,000 new licenses a year so there's there's that's a fair number so I don't

know whether you can extrapolate that or not but I'm sure you'd be able to find

that information out fairly easily okay 380 there cloak Lee called sharrows

they define a bike lane that occupies a vehicle lane space must be adhered

between bicycles and motor vehicles okay excellent

thank you for that 380 I also check out so there's the playlist final days for

the road test and that'll help you out in terms of getting prepped for the last

days before your road test and make sure that you're going to be good and ready

for that and just on that note of final days Road prep be sure that you book a

practice driving test with a local driving school because a driving

instructor will take you out and give you an assessment of your driving

abilities and your preparedness for a road test and they'll indicate skills

techniques and abilities that you need to improve to be successful on a road

test and I know Sam who works in the Bronx Ruki auto driving school I think

it's only about 25 dollars for a practice driving test a mock road test

and it is so worth the money so I would really counsel you to take a road test a

mock road test before your road test book one three weeks out and do it two

or three days before your road test then that'll help you out okay um Matt

looking forward to that winter driving course we're already hit the freezing

mark a couple of times here in wasu yes okay definitely Matt I will make that a

priority as soon as what am i working on right now I'm doing some air brake stuff

for a company I'm working for so get all that done for you okay

all right chronic LED halogen lights what is a better way of seeing at night

halogens yes actually chronic I think there is a headlight

called Nighthawks they're not they're not cheap either fairly expensive and

actually what I'll do for you nightmare chronic is I will find those light bulbs

for you on Amazon or I'll put them up on the Amazon store so what you can do

tonight I'll just write myself a note here is

just go over to the smart drive test website and click on the Amazon link

there on the front page and that'll take over to Amazon and you can have a look

at those nighthawk just remind myself so I put that up on the smart drive test

because you can have a shop and smart drive test has his own shop on Amazon so

you can have a look at that okay um Tyrell if my permit expires and

I haven't took my driving test yet do I have to redo my whole permit or just the

permit test no you'll just Tyrell you I don't know where you are in North

America here where you are in the world rather you may just have to go in and

rewrite the theory test but you may also have to redo the whole thing again so I

don't know I would get in touch with the examination center where you're going to

be taking your test and ask them about that and what what you need to do for

that okay rail Rooter scent - camp yep I was wondering if you've received it

actually I haven't I don't know whether I've received it yet royal I'm gonna

have to have a look for that and I'll write myself a note for that as well

it's been just a crazy busy week I've been finishing up this project that just

has gone over so royal video okay so I'm gonna have a look at that - so I've

written myself a note there we go Ashley where's Ashley Ashley the last thing to

scratch the back of my car because I actually turned into a narrow alleyway

and we had to back out couldn't see what I was backing into any tips I'm backing

up at night yes one of the things I would suggest Ashley when you're backing

up at night if you can't see around your vehicle definitely stop the vehicle put

it in park put the parking brake on get out and have a look around the vehicle

because if you unfortunately that's what's gonna happen is you're gonna

scratch the vehicle if you don't know for sure and that that goes for not just

what you're doing Ashley in terms of your vehicle and backing up at night but

any vehicle that you're driving if you are the least bit unsure when you're

backing up get out and look gol gol get out and look and the bigger the vehicle

the more important that becomes because if you were in the least bit dug you

don't like even if you have somebody who's backing you up who's guiding you

if you can't see them or you're in the least bit doubt stop that vehicle secure

it and get out and look and make sure you know what

going on because unfortunately what happens is if you damage the vehicle or

you cross property damage you as the driver are responsible so make sure you

can see your end of the vehicle all right Claudia thanks for your tips have

passed my test three weeks ago you're awesome excellent thank you so

much Claudia and if you don't mind if you could head over to the smart drive

test and register for the 100k campaign which is our campaign to help under

thousand drivers pass the road test in the next year that would be really great

Brit can you a video about intersections from what lane to turn to I always get

confused ok Brit have a look at both playlists for right turning and left

turning choreo get those up for you g OCH is it raining season could you

please get more tips on driving in rainy days yes I can do that I need to do a

video on raining because the one I had had a little problem in it I think I was

speeding in the video so I need to change that ok Hall phase I saw someone

driving in the Nevada desert in one of the straight roads and he was doing 180

kilometres an hour do you recommend that when the road is straight with hardly

any cars I can't recommend that Hall phase but that's up to your own

discretion about whether you want to let the string out you're on a straight

stretch of road okay EPIK where'd you go here

EPIK from Phillipsburg New Jersey you're absolutely right about four-way stops

being complicated sometimes with my general oohs yeah we already talked

about that weird that right Brit my road test got rescheduled to this Sunday I'm

going to be practicing the whole week excellent so one of the things Brit

focus for a short period of time every time that you go out on skills and

abilities that you have difficulty with so you know if you if you're having

difficulty with parallel parking for example just book a slot of time say

listen I'm gonna do this for 15 or 18 minutes during my practice session and

that way you're not gonna wear yourself out because you know slow speed

maneuvers will improve your overall driving but don't just do that do you

spend a bit of time on it but then take a break and drive around and then come

back and do that okay Jamie my test is on the October 12th and I also live in

Vernon my mock test is on October 11th that's

awesome and Jamie who are you taking your mock road test with here in Vernon

Ashley people that have a license that have not been driven for a long time

they need to learn how to drive by themselves yes yes they do Ashley for

sure Tim there we go Tim Tim Tim Tim can there we go okay so

Tim is saying congrats tips Oh Brit tips for driving in the rain and

snow and actually interesting enough Brit one of the things for driving in

rain and snow anytime that it's overcast or you have your windshield wipers on

turn your headlights on that makes you more visible to other traffic and makes

it easier for other drivers to be able to see you that's gonna be the first and

foremost in terms of driving and rain snow as well drive to the conditions of

the roadway if it's slippery out and you're not comfortable make sure you get

stay in that right-hand lane and that you're driving at a speed that you can

handle the vehicle and get stopped as well anytime that road conditions

deteriorate increase your following distance behind other vehicles under

ideal conditions your following distance is going to be two to three seconds but

as road conditions deteriorate as it starts to rain heavier as there's more

snow on the road increase that following distance because it's going to give you

more time to stop your vehicle in the event of an emergency and those types of

things to make sure that you're looking far down the road particularly in winter

weather and whatnot because the traffic down the road could come to a stop all

of sudden and you you need lots of space to be able to get your vehicle stopped

alright and in the rain make sure you have good windshield wipers make sure

your defroster is working well one of the other things you might put on your

vehicle is rain-x and again you can go over to the smart drive test website

click the Amazon link and in there in the shop is the rain-x and the rain-x

essentially is added to your windshield washer fluid and you can squirt it on

your windshield and it will cause the rain to beat off and give you better

visibility inside your vehicle if you're finding that during this time of the

year when it's when there's a disparate temperature difference between outside

and inside your vehicle roll to roll down your window it's like crack your

drivers window in that way that'll help to

defrost some of the windows inside the vehicle and whatnot there we go okay I

Matt I've been in Illinois 16 years ago I had to renew my learner's permit

didn't have to do anything special other than to pay a small fee to renew it yeah

I was a few years ago Matt the most of these things have changed so okay Hall

phase we're off to a very slow start on 100k campaign I don't even think we've

reached a hundred yet so it's gonna take a little while to get some momentum

going here and getting lots of people knowing about 100k campaign it's one of

those marketing challenges for sure Ellie how long time to get g to license

by mail generally you should get it within six to eight weeks Ellie if you

haven't got it by six to eight weeks go down to the MTO and ask them what's

going on year 86 tips on how to back out enough of parking spots before turning

wheel to get out especially when there's a car part to your left and right okay

so 86 when you back off you want to you want to back out straight as far as you

can but essentially what you want to do you want to back out so that the the

front steer axle is at the back of the other two vehicles so for example if

you're gonna back out and you're gonna go to the right you want to have the

front axles at the rear because what's going to happen is is as you turn the

vehicle in this direction the front of the vehicle is going to go this way so

you need to be back out far enough to allow that front-end to swing past that

vehicle on that left side so that's the general rule that I would suggest to you

uh there you go there's there's Tim giving you the we're at 31 so we got a

few more to go yeah ninety nine thousand and in change there we go

Sebastian okay sorry I skipped a couple of people here and did it Colin did you

say it was your birthday I think you did okay I went down there

okay um yeah so as Tim said the 100k program was was broken for a couple of

weeks so yeah we didn't we didn't find out actually what you

should do if you come across a flooded area and there's no way to turn back I

drove through a flooded area and was afraid to damage my car okay

excellent question Ashley and one of the things I will tell you about water

sitting water on the roadway and I learned this from personal experience

that when the water starts stops going off the front of the vehicle like this

in a spray pattern because you're driving through and it's spraying off

the vehicle and rather it just kind of goes out in front of the vehicle and

ripples then the water is too deep to be driving in I learned this a few years

ago because I went through this deep water it was in a hurry we were on a

back road the whole roadway was flooded and eventually the because the engine

became flooded with water and I was with my wife at the time and she's will I

guess we'll have to get out and push so I got out of the front of the vehicle

and I pushed her on the front of the car and the cards have kind of floated away

so if you think the water is too deep to be driving in it probably is and you

really shouldn't be there so for most passenger vehicles if the water is

deeper than 8 to 12 inches or 20 to 30 centimeters it's probably too deep to be

driving in so you don't want to be driving in and if it's too deep because

eventually the car will float it will not go in there and sit down on the

bottom maybe if you have a big 4x4 or whatnot but for the most part I would

say for most passenger vehicles and light trucks 10 to 12 inches you know 10

12 to maybe 15 inches or 20 to 30 centimeters and then you shouldn't be

driving in it okay Chino I have a question regarding if you

should be looking both ways on every intersection on your road test yes you

should chain oh for sure because you need to shoulder check as well because

you're looking for road users you're looking for pedestrians people on

bicycles people on scooters so yes you need to check both ways okay yes okay

Liam what is the best way to get climatized to driving a new larger

vehicle liam one of the things to do is simply drive it okay that's the best way

to do it and do slow speed maneuvers that's gonna work out frame excellent so

you're going with Rebecca with live another day that's great so your

to do great there and she's gonna give you the awesome feedback to be

successful there the ICBC to take your test I have a question about when I am

turning right into a main road I know that I should turn into the most right

lane but should I also consider the middle lane to be empty in case I take a

wide turn no a ways when you're turning left you're gonna go into the left lane

when you're turning right you're gonna go into the right lane if you're turning

why do you need to go back and revisit the fundamentals because you need to be

able to turn from one lane of traffic into the other lane of traffic without

going wide if you go wide you're not gonna be

successful in a road test and Koryo put the video up here for you on learning to

drive and it give you some exercises with cones that you can do in a parking

lot that will help you to improve your skills with the primary controls the

steering wheel the brake and the throttle and combine those three primary

controls together and have absolute control of that because if you don't

have absolute control and you turn right and you deviate out into that middle

lane it's not likely you're gonna be successful on your road test so you need

to improve those skills okay Ryan I'm late but hello spend some

time on parallel parking today currently not a fan it's pretty tough yes Ryan it

can be a bit tough there at the beginning but it's gonna be better Hall

phase what am i working on I was looking at the air brake book today and I've got

to do two videos for the air brake book I got to do one on chaining up how to

put chains on a big truck and I got to do another video on the five in-cab

checks for air brakes and I know for most of you who are doing passenger

vehicle licenses that is probably of no interest to you but for CDL drivers and

for the purposes of doing my book air brakes explains simply I need to get

those two videos done so that's what I'm working on

Royall thanks a ton I'm an EMT in kinetic and would love to help you with

your channel I would love to provide you organically made dash cam video free of

charge to supplement your lectures royal that is incredibly generous and I am

greatly appreciative of that video because that would be just be incredibly

helpful and as I said I've written myself a note here I'm gonna look at

that dash cam video and I'll tell you that that would just be invaluable to

the channel and and helping make awareness about

emergency vehicles to drivers in North America and the world for that matter

and how important it is to you know make sure that you get out of the way and you

know give the right-of-way to people responding to emergencies and trying to

help other people in society so yeah just very generous offer I can't thank

you enough Sebastian how many miles should you put new oil in your car okay

Sebastian you should be changing the oil in your car every 5000 kilometers or

3,000 miles on most regular oil changes some of the newer vehicles that will

have synthetic oil in them and you can go as much as 7,000 kilometers between

oil changes so have a look at the owner's manual that will show you that

as well Cory will get you the video up here you have a video Sebastian on how

to change the oil in your vehicle and you can show you how to do that and it's

you know it's fairly easy I change the oil in my own vehicle and one takes me

about 20 minutes and I can do it for about $30 and it's kind of fun you know

everyone someone get out and tinker in my car so you can do that

jano should you reduce your speed when passing a bicycle I lost you there sorry

about that where'd you go where'd you go there you go no you shouldn't pass but

you should move over to the left as far as possible Vinnie had my g1 for a while

now just when I have to practice driving parallel park three-point turn just from

watching videos for a couple of days and my dad said I did better than he's ever

seen excellent we're so glad we could help you out Vinnie that's really great

yes and practice practice practice is gonna make you a better driver and help

you be successful on your road test what if I went to parallel park and there's a

car behind me star are you working towards your license test is that what

you're doing because it's unlikely I mean in some cases they will get you to

park between two vehicles for the purposes of a road test but most of the

time they're not going to get a vehicle to park a vehicle behind you for the

purposes of a road test and have a look at the mock road test video here as well

look at parallel parking that will help you over so drive smart BC that's Tim he

does some really great work and has really awesome resources at drive smart

BC and I do encourage you to head over there and look at Tim's web

as well he's got really great blog information for road rules and those

types of things

thank you so much thank you so much Tim for that encouragement and compliment

it's really great and I'm glad that we're helping a lot of people out and I

really endorse what you're doing there at drive smart BC as well and you're

doing some awesome work too and certainly helped me out and whatnot

particularly with a question a few weeks back about turning left from a one-way

street onto another one-way street or a roadway in that you can do that so a

little bit of interesting Road rules and what we're talking about tonight Paul

Feig's what do you do if the car floats well unfortunately what's gonna happen

Hall phase after a short period of time is the car is going to sink and

eventually what happened was all the foot wells in the car did fill up with

water so they'll know that eventually it will sink but for the most part it will

float for a short period of time too so if you do end up in a crash and you end

up out on the water what not it will float for a short period of time and

give you an opportunity to get out of the vehicle okay Cory I don't know how

universal it is but I was taught to not turn from backing out a lot until the

string wheel wheels is physically farther back than the cars next to you

yes if if you have that much space Cory then I recommend that as well and I know

that some parking lots are going to be fairly tight and if it is fairly tight

you you want to wait until the front steer tires are kind of in line with the

back bumpers but what you said there is is absolutely right you want to wait

until you're absolutely out of completely out of the space if you have

that much room then by all means do that because it adds a buffer of space and

safety for you while you're backing out of the space od encountered this on my

license exam theory exam true or false don't know the answer here is it animal

drawn vehicles in a roadway do not have the same rights and duties as a motor

vehicle operator that's interesting Odie and I would have to look that up it's

particularly interesting is where my mom lives in Ontario dealing with the

Midnight's and a lot of horse-drawn vehicles along the sides of the roads

and there's a Corie Oh get that up for you on

slow-moving vehicles and I put some of the Mennonites in there and that would

make sense to me because a lot of the animal drawn vehicles are not going to

be able to do the same speed limit attained the same speeds as motor

vehicles so that would make sense to me but Odie just remind me where you are in

the world there and I'll have a look at that jano where'd you go where'd you go

I'm running behind you I'm gonna have to catch up I'd like to help thank you for

helping me get through my g2 test and my Giro test I'm about to take in Toronto

on October 15th well congratulations on preparing for that and taking your test

that's a great feat and good luck on your test be sure to stop back and let

us know how that goes driven before in 59 how many lessons should I take Nancy

I would suggest that what you do is go to a driving school and go out for an

evaluation and get the driving instructor to give you some specific

feedback because I mean you may have an aptitude for driving and you may not

have to take very many or you might have to take a few more so it's kind of

depend on that so that's what I would recommend that you do is go to a driving

school and take an evaluation and see what the examiner or the driving

instructor says and the other thing Nancy I would suggest to you is find a

driving instructor that works with seniors because especially seniors who

were older and going for retesting that's gonna be your best bet and

they're gonna be able to help you the most

all right Ryan no I haven't posted the thing like I said I'm just I'm coming

back to smart drive test here I've been I've been away for the summer and I'm

finishing up another project and I'm excited to get back here and get going

on all this stuff again and I'm gonna leave myself a note for that as well

there we go and I've written a note I got that down there so get that done

okay i was-- thank you especially all the for the link you're most welcome

Royall no dash cam video from the ambulance unfortunately but I have

plenty of footage from my personal vehicle excellent that's going to help

out how often do you change do you get an oil change I change my oil in my

Honda every 5,000 kilometers haul face Chris I got pulled over with my G

by police what should I do I have a court in two months Chris what was the

infraction that the police pulled you over for all right 380 where'd you go

where'd you go where'd you go where'd you go - I agree throat I can also send

over personal vehicle unknown how similar our laws are but always willing

to help no that'd be great 380 if you could do that as well essentially I

think what I'm gonna do is - cam I'll set up a Google Drive and then we can

drop it in there because I know some of this video footage can get fairly big ok

chronic do I let off the gas pedal when being passed on a two-way Road chronic

you can do that depending on the speed differential between you and the passing

vehicle if the passing vehicle is going further quickly then I wouldn't bother

letting off but if it's kind of you know they're trying to get by you then I

would let off the throttle and let them get by you for sure ok Ashley okay I'm

going to learn how to drive by myself excellent and Ashley if you have some

trepidation about that about driving by yourself start on residential places

places where there's low traffic traffic density and just get used to it and then

you know as you become more comfortable with driving by yourself then start to

move out on busier roads and those types of things and if you're uncomfortable

driving by yourself you know it's not it's not a it's not a slight against you

if you take somebody with you to kind of give you some advice for example if

you're having if any of you having difficulty with turning left at complex

intersections then get somebody to go with you can help you up because judging

gap is difficult and if you have a veteran driver who has some experience

in the vehicle with you they can say no no no don't go there's not enough gap or

those types of things and that's a very experiential thing and they can help you

out with that so do that as well all right okay um

okay uh mayor you when you turn allowed if there's no signs yes okay I think

you're talking about right-hand turns Corey we'll get the video up for you on

turning right on a red light and how to do that with Rick's videos and pass them

first I chronic that's awesome be sure to register for anybody who's passed a

road test be sure to register I'm just trying to catch up here on the

it's Christian when I'm turning left and an intersection I'm confused in the wet

lane to turn into Christian the left lane to left lane right two-lane rain

right lane to right lane so when you turn left you're going to turn into the

left-hand Lane and then you're going to merge back to the right unless you're

gonna turn left at the next intersection or what not but for the most part you're

gonna merge back over to the right vini how long does it take to set a date for

a g2 road test and receive your license upon passing that I don't know Vinnie it

depends where you are in Ontario and how busy the MTO

licensing Center is going to be so you need to call them and see how long how

far out you can book a road test the other thing you can do video is go

through a driving school because they get blocks of appointments at the MTO

center so through a driving school you might get a sooner appointment okay

Starr I meant if there is a car going after me in the line and I just want to

parallel park do I signal so the person behind me backs off or should I look for

another spot no Starr if you're parallel parking you simply pull up the others

beside the other vehicle immediately put the vehicle into reverse and put your

while you're gonna already have your right signal so as you're approaching

the space put your right signal on when you get up three feet beside the other

vehicle put the vehicle into reverse right away and that way your reverse

lights are gonna go on and your signal is going to be on and the vehicle behind

you is gonna know that you're parallel parking so they're gonna wait for you

okay cronic you're most welcome Edwyn hi there how are you

no more rush it was a question no I appreciate the reminder Ryan that really

helps me out because I've got a lot of things going on right now so I really

appreciate that Jo I'm an experience that the drivers pressuring pedestrians

the crosswalk will turn left is this allowed no it's not a lot J no if you

start pressuring pedestrians and you start pushing through an intersection

especially on a road test you are not going to be successful on a road test so

don't do that next week excellent we'll see you next week Ryan I really look

forward to talking to you again okay so I think we've got caught up here

excellent and we're just at the end of the hour here so again if you're

watching on the replay if you like what you see here give it a thumbs up be sure

to subscribe to the channel hit the smartdrive test website if you

passed a road test and sign up for the hundred K campaign and be sure to sign

up for the newsletter that way I send out notices or when I get the winter

driving courses up in those types of things and all the information I send

that out for you and give you notices about what's going on in the smart drive

test world and again hit the thumbs up and be sure to subscribe if you like

what you see here at smart drive test thank you everyone for showing up Thank

You Corey for the Great Moderation on the channel and I'm glad that YouTube

figured out the comments and everybody was able to get their comments through

tonight last week it was a bit of a bit of a meal a in terms of trying to get

all that going kale I took my driver's test yesterday and I passed the driving

part but failed to maneuver manoeuvrability part because they

knocked over some cones excuse me sorry to hear that Kayla so do you just

have to take the manoeuvrability part again Kayla or do you have to take the

whole thing yes darn cones and somebody from Ohio asked

me about that so I'll write this down here and that'll

remind me the Ohio thing all right so we're gonna leave it there for tonight

thank you again for your time showing up and all your great questions and

remember pick the best answer not necessarily the right answer have a

great night bye now

October TBR | 2018 - Duration: 5:33.

Hey guys it's Zoe, and today I'm going to be talking about my October TBR. Now,

if you follow me on social media you'll know that September has been a terrible

reading month for me. I only finished one book entirely and the last hundred pages

or so of another book and I'm halfway through another one which is a terrible

reading month for me. However, I think I'm starting to come out of my slump. I'm

getting used to being back at work now and finding more reading time and

finding time to film again so I think I can have a more ambitious September TBR.

September, no October TBR I think it'll be okay though because September is

almost - September, I keep saying September. No, October! October is mostly a month

of rereads for me in preparation for new books coming out. So, with that let's get

into this TBR. The first book that I want to read in October is Strange the

Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I'm going to try to read this within the first two days

of October so I can be all caught up for Muse of Nightmares, which is the sequel

and I think that comes out on October 2nd if I'm not mistaken. Strange the

Dreamer follows a boy named Lazlo Strange who has always been obsessed

with the city of Weep. 200 years before the events of this book, something

happened to change Weep forever. It got cut off from the rest of the world, and

most people just forgot about it. But, like I said Lazlo has always been

obsessed and he is presented with the opportunity to go to Weep and find out

more about it. However, he doesn't only find answers in Weep he finds more

questions. Like who is this blue skinned goddess that he is dreaming about and

why did he start dreaming about her before he ever knew that she existed. And

if this guy called the God Slayer killed all of these gods - first of all who are

the gods - then why do the gods seem so real right now? I read this last year not

long after it came out and this is one of my favourite books, and Muse of

Nightmares is one of my most anticipated upcoming releases. I cannot wait. I know

it's going to be fantastic. I love her other series Daughter of

Smoke & Bone and I just I'm so excited to get into

this one again and Muse of Nightmares. I really should be reading some of the

arcs that I have for October that are going to be coming out mid-October, but

on October 23rd hands down my most anticipated release

for this entire year is coming out and I need to reread the entire series to

catch up and remember all of the little details. The first book for that reread

is The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J Maas. Yes it's Throne of Glass that I need to

reread. I am so excited. I cannot wait. The Assassin's Blade is a collection of five

prequel novellas set at various points before the first Throne of Glass book. I

wouldn't recommend reading this before you get into the series because it gives

a lot away. I think it was originally published after the third book and

that's when I read it, and it cleared up everything so much. You don't have to

read it, but everything, especially in Tower of Dawn, the most recent release,

makes so much more sense if you read these novellas. After The Assassin's

blade comes Throne of Glass, the first in the series. This follows Celaena Sardothien

who is an assassin who gets freed from prison to compete in a tournament to

become the King's champion. The other books in this series are: Crown of

Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms, and Tower of Dawn. The

next book is Kingdom of Ash. Like I said, it comes out October 23rd and I cannot

wait. It's the last book in this series. I know already it's going to be so

bittersweet. It's gonna be absolutely perfect

but one of my favourite series is ending. So all of those books are ones that I am

going to make time for 100% in October. I have to finish them before I get to

Kingdom of Ash, and I would like to read Kingdom of Ash right when it comes out,

so hopefully I actually get them done before that day. if not I want to finish

all of them in October. I have one other book that I have to read in October,

which is Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare, the second book in the Infernal

Devices trilogy which I am reading with my friend Cerys from the blog Browsing

for Books. We buddy read Clockwork Angel in September and Clockwork Prince is

October's book and then Clockwork princess we're going to be

reading in November. I don't have it yet but I'm gonna get it sometime within the

next week. Hopefully, I'll finish all of these books on time when I would like to,

which means I would have about a week left in October for any other reading.

But I'm going to leave that week open for whatever I feel like at that time

because I don't know if I'm going to be in a reading slump or not after I

finish Kingdom of Ash. There's a very good chance that I will be in the depths

of despair that the series is over and I won't be able to pick up a book for

another week. Who knows? With that we have come to the end of my October TBR. Let me

know down in the comments what you're planning on reading next month as well.

As always, to stay updated with my current reads and how I'm feeling about

them you can follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Goodreads all at yerabooknerdzoe

which I will leave linked down below in the description box. If you liked

this video please give it a thumbs up and subscribe, and I hope you all have a

wonderful day and get at least a little bit of uninterrupted reading time. I'll

see you the next video. Bye!

FIRST DAY IN BASILAN MINDANAO PHILIPPINES Travel Vlog - Duration: 15:55.

(keyboard clicking)

- [Mike] Basilan, Mindanao.

For years Muslim extremist groups terrorized the island.

They left scars on its people.

And scars on what it means to be Muslim.

- (speaking foreign language)

(hopeful music)

These days are coming to an end.

I met Kulas and Kumar, of BecomingFilipino,

and I was asked if I wanted to join them

to meet the Governor

of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao,

and to start cracking the shell of negativity

around this beautiful place.

(children cheering)

What I've learned in my travels

is the biggest hearts are found in the most faraway places.

So, I said yes.

This is day one, part one of discovering Basilan.

(upbeat music)

(car horn beeps)

Fearless fam, welcome to the south!

- We are back in Zamboanga, my second time here.

This guy is gonna experience a whole different

universe of the Philippines.

Another happy, cool, cultural, beautiful place.

We're over here! (laughing)

(speaking foreign language)

- Guys, I have forty-four kilos of luggage on this trip.

That's way too many kilos.

Underwater equipment, drones.

My life is in these two suitcases,

and it's forty four kilos.

Here we go.

Need only, need, hold on.

Vlog camera's gotta go.

Need both hands.

He's security! - Yeah, yeah.

- [Mike] Making sure no mice or rats

get in Zamboanga! (laughs)

- Cat security! - Cat security!

- [Kumar] Yep.

- Okay, lechon video uploading.

I've got ten minutes to shave,

and we have

a dinner

with our contacts here in Zamboanga,

planning the next few days.

I've gotta hurry because it's quite important

and I only have eight minutes.

(electric razor buzzes) We are in our hotel room.

We'll be here for a couple days.

We are about to go down

and meet our contacts here in Zamboanga,

to be able to figure out what the plan is.

They have some surprises for us,

I know Kulas has some surprises for me.

I'm trying to shave.

I've got five minutes to look presentable

and I'll probably see you in the lobby in a sec.

(upbeat electronic music)

These seaweeds are delicious!

This is almost like fish eggs.

- You've had them before, right?

Lato? - Yeah, yeah.

No, but these ones especially are very delicate.

This one is another kind of seaweed that has

coconut, shaved coconut on top.

Grated coconut.

We have kinilaw, which is like ceviche, raw fish.

- And we have dessert which is?

- Maiz con hielo. - Maiz con hielo.

Kinda like a corn based halo halo.

- [Kulas] Do you wanna hear a good joke?

- Yeah, I would love to hear a good joke.

- What do fish call this?

Maizda.

- I don't get it. - Yeah, that's alright.

- (laughs) Is that a Filipino joke?

- No, eat, the word eat, aw!

- (laughs) I'm gonna keep it in.

Guys, I'm a little bit excited.

We just finished our briefing meeting

with the governor, Mujiv, who is main contact here,

who is the-- - Yeah,

he is my friend! (laughs)

- His close friend, the governor of the AR...

- Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

- ARMM. - ARMM,

Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

- And actually, I'll interrupt quickly.

The first and only time I've ever been to Basilan,

I'd never put it on video,

but it was also, he was my contact.

I usually wouldn't talk politics or anything,

but it's the best way to learn

in this part of the Philippines,

is to know people who help govern it, as well.

I mean, that's how we can become educated.

That's why I think it's the right thing

if I'm taking you here, as well,

that you're protected correctly,

and you understand the situation, and yeah, it's cool!

- Well, I think especially,

we talked about this a bit tonight,

but if you're a local tourist,

like a Filipino tourist, there's not much risk here.

- No, no actually you're fine. - You're fine.

As a foreign tourist,

there has been a history of kidnapping,

but, that's a while ago.

Either way you'd want a good contact,

and Mujiv is a really good contact. (laughs)

- And realistically too, it's still isolated,

so even though these things do exist,

the kidnappings and there has been bad things in the past,

like we learned in there, there's only 59% from Basilan,

And then, mostly, it's civilian, you know.

It's just not really, so again,

it's just the kind of thing where

yes, there are some bad people around

but did you know there's almost

half a million people who live there?

- Yeah, so 50 bad ones

in half a million. - There you go.

So I mean, it's just taking precaution.

For us because we're foreign nationals,

who create media especially.

But if you're Filipino, come hang out!

No problem man.

See you man. - Alright,

so we have an early morning, sunrise start

to take a ferry from Zamboanga City to Basilan.

And I haven't, I've barely slept in three days,

so I'm gonna call it a night,

these guys are gonna call it a night,

and we'll pick it up in the morning.

- Sleep Well! - Goodnight guys.

(door lock beeping) (door clicks open)

Oh, ho, ho!

You and me, little lady,

(door closes)

(fingers rustle on sheets) have a date!

(groaning)

Sunrise!

And one of the best feelings

of being a traveling YouTuber is going to bed,

pressing upload on slow wi-fi,

and the video finishing overnight.

(Mike simulates explosion noises)

Here we go.

Watch these guys, come on.

These guys are so strong!

We are now leaving Zamboanga City to go to Basilan.

The capitol actually, Isabela.

We'll be on a fast ferry and crossing over the ocean.

On this trip I have no expectations.

All I know is my mind is gonna be blown.

We have to be a little bit careful,

and the people here are incredibly nice.

(upbeat music)

Kumar is having a religious experience over there.

- Woo!

- [Mike] He's making bedroom noises about the coffee.

(laughter)

Woo, oh! - Yeah.

- (laughs) We are at Basilan Business Cafe.

Business Hotel at the Cafe, and we are having some coffee.

Apparently coffee here is top notch.

I drink a lot of coffee everywhere, all over the world,

and I've never smelled any coffee like this before.

It's a little bit too hot.

- [Kumar] It's very good.

Strong. - Really strong.

- Strong brew. - But

a really interesting taste too, it's very different.

Mm, it tastes like beans.

Like bean beans.

Like beans you would eat.

- Yeah. - Oh, it's good though.

♪ Bangus! ♪ (laughter)

- Bangus, full breakfast!

It is a breakfast of champions.

- [Kumar] Breakfast of champions, man!

- This is the smoked Bangus and coffee.

Do you think it's halal?

- It is very halal.

- It's very halal. - I can't stop eating

with my hands in this country.

I just like it so much more.

Who needs forks and knives?

Who needs tenedors and cochillos?

- Cucharas. - Cucharas!

- (laughs) Cuchillos!

Let's go. (motorcycle revs)

(upbeat music)

Okay, we've just got on a small local boat

to go to Malamawi island and see Malamawi Beach,

also called White Beach. (boat motor purrs)

There seems to be a lot of white beaches in Philippines!

We've been assigned some security personnel.

Not because it's dangerous, because we are foreigners

and we're quite high-profile, given our job,

which is posting everything we do online! (laughs)

These are mostly Bajau people who live on the ocean.

The cool thing about this area, it's a melting pot

of so many different cultures.

(upbeat music)

And here we are, land ho!

Malamawi Island. (boat engine purrs)

This is our van. (laughs)

So, usually when people come to Basilan,

they would come to this beach.

This beach is quite famous.

- Yes, this is the tourist spot.

Basically what happens is,

people take that boat from Zamboanga to Isabela,

like we did this morning. - Yeah.

- Then they go to the pier there.

- Yeah? - Pay 5 pesos,

hop on a bunka, a small boat,

come over here, hop on a motorbike, a Habal-Habal,

and then go to this beach we're going.

This is the tourist spot.

If you're Filipino you can come here, absolutely.

- The, like the tourist spot.

How many tourist spots are there?

Not very many?

- Well, there's actually a lot of beautiful places here.

- Yeah. - I've never really

experienced them, so I don't know yet.

But, this is the one that is most well-known,

and most protected, and most local.

So, there's never been any problems in Malamawi, ever.

Like, if you're Filipino, come here, honestly.

There's no problem whatsoever.

- And last night you called it the Boracay of Mindanao.

- Boracay of Basilan!

- Boracay of Basilan.

- Although, I don't wanna compare though!

(laughter) I never been to Boracay.

This is just Basilan, no need to even say Boracay.

This is Basilan. - Fair enough.

- Malamawi, white sand, perfect water,

and we're lucky it's not raining.

- Yeah the weather's cleared up.

- The weather is clear.

It was meant to be, Kuya.

(upbeat music)

- I'm trying to change into my bathing suit,

and I went to go put my bathing suit up here

and then walked into

this giant spider. (laughs)

Oh my God, wow!

I think he's angry, but he's beautiful.

We'll just, we'll let him do his thing.

Be careful in the bathrooms.

(suspenseful music)

(group cheering)

(laughing and cheering)

There was a million fish down there,

and you can't see it on the GoPro.

Actually, you know what?

Let's get in the water!

Let's go for a swim and explore.

(upbeat music)

Three, two, one!

(water splashing)

(bubbling) (upbeat music)

Fam, I've only been here for a day, but I love it!

These are the kind of adventures

(laughs) that make me smile.

We're in for some good things.

We're in for some cool things.

Let's stop hiding under the bridge like a troll,

(laughs) and go find Kulas and Kumar!

And you guys speak Tropicana?

- Yeah. - A little bit.

- Si, can you teach me some Tropicana?

- Tropicana. - Tropicana.

How do I say what is your name?

- (speaking foreign language)

- (repeating foreign phrase)

- (speaking foreign language)

- Ah, so it's a bit like Spanish, yeah?

- Exactly. - Si.

- Si. - Si.

- In Spanish it's (speaking foreign language).

- (repeating foreign phrase)

- [Mike] In Spanish, yeah.

Okay, okay and how about, Basilan is beautiful?

- (speaking foreign language)

- Huh? - (speaking foreign language)

- [Mike] (repeating foreign phrase)

- Yeah. - This is

for all my Mexican subscribers who are literally

on the other side of the planet right now.

You can come to Basilan, you can come to Zamboanga.

- Zamboanga! - Zamboanga,

and you can speak Spanish here,

'cause it's called-- - Broken Spanish.

- Broken Spanish, called Tropicana.

- Tropicana language.

- How do you say nice to meet you in Tropicana?

- Uh... (laughter)

- Wait, wait, uh... (laughter)

- Okay, how about the-- - Exactly I don't know!

- [Mike] Thank you very much?

- (speaking foreign language) - (repeating foreign phrase)?

The same in Spanish.

Alright, thanks guys! (laughs) - Thank you!

- [Man] A groufie!

- Groufie, what's a Groufie?

A group selfie?

- Selfie! - Filipinos

love their selfies. - Yes, exactly!

- A groufie!

It's my first time hearing the word groufie.

Yakan food, what do we got?

We got... - This is purtoo.

- [Mike] Purtoo?

- Yeah. - What is purtoo?

- Cassava. - Cassava.

We have two kinds of fish, and we have this one?

- [Man] This one is pule.

- Pule? - Pule ti no no.

- Pule? - Pule ti no no.

- [Mike] Pule ti no no, and this one same?

- Yeah, same. - And this is?

This is, this is, um...

- [Man] Kinilaw, kinilaw.

- [Mike] Kinilaw, what's, sardine?

- Uh, bangalao. - Bangalao, is that sardine?

- Yeah, sardine. - Uh huh,

like pickled sardine.

Pickled sardine!

Cafe de Basilan, mwah!

This guy's favorite drink, cafe de Basilan!

- Cafe de Basilan. - Ooh, ooh!

Wait, which one is American sauce?

(laughter)

- [Mike] The soy sauce, which one?

- [Man] Is this for sasawan, or for the isda?

- It's for sasawan! - Aw nice.

(men speaking foreign language)

- It's good, it's chewy.

Tastes good!

In the next episode, we discover Langas Island,

and find a traditional Filipino war helmet.

I lose a basketball game.

I miss every shot.

And we speak about what the first day

on Basilan was actually like.

Super excited, and super impressed and super!

My heart is just overflowing

with happiness and love that we're getting here

on day one in Basilan.

World Market + Sackcloth & Ashes - Duration: 1:34.

At Cost Plus World Market, we believe compassion, kindness, and generosity are always in style.

That's why we're proud to be the very first national retailer to partner with Sackcloth

and Ashes in their inspiring efforts to help the homeless.

In 2013, my mom ended up living on the streets.

And that completely changed my paradigm of how I viewed the homeless community.

It taught me something-- that not all people choose to become homeless, that some people

need a second chance.

So I started to call local homeless shelters and ask what they needed.

They all said blankets.

And that's when I came up with the idea of Sackcloth and Ashes.

For every blanket that you purchase from our company, we'll donate a second blanket to

a local homeless shelter.

This charitable buy one, get one approach means that every time you purchase one of

these extraordinary blankets you are providing a measure of comfort, warmth, and beauty to

someone when they need it most.

So when you buy a Sackcloth and Ashes blanket from Cost Plus World Market, you can feel

good about your purchase, knowing that they are sustainably sourced from recycled fabrics

and colored with eco-friendly dyes.

They're made in Italy and the USA.

And now, these high-quality blankets are available in five exclusive designs in-store and online

while supplies last.

Wrap yourself in the spirit of giving this season with truly meaningful gifts that will

warm hearts and comfort those in need.

Why do I listen to SSB with WIDE OPEN filters? - Duration: 6:10.

hello its Callum from DX Commander now I learned a couple of things today

on my livestream I was just a tank can't respond to all the chat on the live

stream by the way it because you know busy running the pileup or whatever but

one guy said to he was nearly licensed at all my gosh I can't hear half the

things you're hearing or words to that effect

and he couldn't someone's a bit off frequency I intentionally run the rit

control so that less experienced people can actually tune into the voice if you

know what I mean but what I haven't been doing and maybe I should is I just run

the receiver flat out RF gain it you know zero whatever you want to call it

filters fairly wide because the best filter I found is my own head after

you've done a couple of thousand hours running pile ups or contests operating

you will find that your brain itself is better than the rig so a the static the

background static I kind of don't hear it's just it's kind of in the way but

it's a layered thing I suppose the statics in front then you get the voices

so I can do is I can with my own filter I can take the static out and hear the

voice and no amount of rig can do what I want to do yes the TS 9.99 T's got three

different roofing filters all selectable I have it on about average it's a nice

receiver you know hey so Stu 590 okay I only got the 990 because I did a deal

and ended up buying a big radio cuz I've sold something but I would be perfectly

comfortable running to what I was doing this morning on a 990 at 590 it's a

great little receiver in fact you could almost do it but not quite on a tee

s2000 trouble is I get overloaded with stations a couple of kilohertz away

whereas the 990 just kind of you still hear the squeaky squeaky or

grunty grunty depending on which side the QRM is but you know I can put up

with URM because it's the thousands of hours

which just trains you it it becomes sort of whole three-dimensional space

I've got qrm here but I'm listening here so it doesn't matter then what I try and

do is get rid of it for the live stream but if it's just me I often don't care

or just what they go away after a while by the way if you're there for the long

term they normally go away Lee told me that G 0 MTN my first real big stint in

the chair was I ran a station called gb v HQ was the 80 meter station for Great

Britain's entry into some European see hey I are you contest I got a number but

it was about ten years ago and G 0mt endly he was on the live between this

morning actually dropped him before I went to bed and after doing Ritchie for

24 hours and he taught me quite a lot in terms of you know if you just move every

times a bit of qrm then they get the better of you on the other hand if you

dial closer to them and have an argument that doesn't do you any good either a

couple of times I have actually gone a bit closer intentionally thinking to

myself yeah oh I'll piss him off faster than they'll piss me off because I've

got staying power but sometimes they have got staying power so after 20

minutes unlike shift if they've come up because what can happen is the skit can

change you see I don't know if you heard this morning but all of a sudden these

two Russians started talking on 7 1 3 3 was it

no 8 3 it was I just they called each other and started talking it has to be

running 400 watts half a kilohertz away but it may have sail around the corner

from each other I suppose they could have just done their RF gain dialed me

out and and forgotten about me so why do I run my fuck with filters wide open

because I just don't hear the static it's not there for me I don't care about

it my ears are the best filters the Kenwood can't make my evolution made my

ears of my brain and I can just see and I literally see all the audio as a

picture in my head so it's like my vision and my hearing are connected so I

hear a call sign here and there only different spaces the in terms of depth

and width and I could pick them out it's very hard to explain

whereas a new operator will see everything straight down the middle and

it's just a jumble I can separate the jumble out so I can hear that call sign

and then pick that one off that's what I do it somebody on a chat this morning he

said oh I couldn't I couldn't live with all that noise that's very noisy after a

while it's not actually just make sure you don't drive your ears too hard with

the headphones otherwise you'll take your headphones

off in your death I always turn it down as much secara not up as much as I can

make sure to keep turning it down so take my headphones off and not got any

tinnitus running why I'm a drama that's loud so that's why I Drive everything

wide open I hope that's answered some of the the critique from someone who just

didn't you know didn't want to couldn't live with it

alright I can see you next time

Nightcore - Forgot How To Dream (Ekali/Lyrics) ツ - Duration: 2:28.

Why can't I be myself when I'm by myself?

I'm only nervous alone, what did I settle for?

Just a metaphor of something that felt like a home

Black ivy, I'm so lost, come find me wandering

Used to be reliable, now I'm liable

For promises I couldn't keep

I was a little kid, I was different

The war is alive as we sleep

All day I shut my mind, just days behind

Guess I forgot how to dream

Guess I forgot how to dream

Think that I'm losing it, I'm confusing things

That I used to keep in a light

Why can't I trust myself, learn to love myself?

They say it's a sign of the times

Don't leave me, oh my mind won't stay easy, easy

I've been along for the ride, but I haven't been driving

Haven't used my eyes in a minute, swear I'm sincere

But the **** and the Internet clouded my vision

These lights make it hard just to sit in or live in the skin that I got

Turn into something I'm not

I'm looking at photos of people looking at the cloud

Guess I forgot how to dream

Guess I forgot how to dream

Guess I forgot how to dream, dream, dream

Guess I forgot how to dream, dream, dream, dream
