In this three-part series we are taking a seven-day six-night trip from Tokyo to Kyoto,
but not by the usual route along the Pacific coast known as the "Golden Route", which
most tourists take.
Instead we are traveling through Japan's "New Golden Route" which delves into the
country's rural interior, continues along the beautiful Sea of Japan coast, and finishes
in Kyoto.
A great way to travel along this New Golden Route is using the Hokuriku Arch Pass, a seven-day
pass exclusively available to overseas tourists that allows for unlimited use of all the JR
Lines shown on this map, including the Hokuriku Shinkansen.
In episode one we made our way from Tokyo to the Snow Monkeys before episode two saw
us traveling along the Sea of Japan coast, through Kurobe gorge and to the mountain town
of Takayama.
Now in this third and final episode, we spend the last three days exploring an historic
city, beautiful countryside spots and an old merchant town before reaching our final destination:
Kyoto.
So join me, Sam Evans, as we travel from Tokyo to Kyoto along Japan's New Golden Route.
Day 5
Here's the plan: We wake up in Takayama, where we will spend the morning at one of
its popular morning markets.
We then head to Kanazawa, where we'll have a lunch and visit the famous Kenrokuen Garden,
before staying the night at a traditional Japanese ryokan.
So we've arrived this morning at one of Takayama's two morning markets.
Now these morning markets that are open daily sell a selection of crafts, local vegetables
and street food.
I'm starving, so let's go and get breakfast.
We then head over to Toyama via the Takayama Line, before taking the Hokuriku Shinkansen
to Kanazawa.
From Kanazawa Station we make the 15 minute walk to Omicho Market.
We've just arrived in Kanazawa and first of all we're gonna get some local cuisine
for lunch and following that we're gonna take a trip to Kenrokuen, one of the three
most beautiful gardens in all of Japan.
Let's go!
Two of the things Kanazawa is most famous for are its incredible seafood and gold leaf.
Now this restaurant that we are in today in Omicho Market combines the two and it looks
absolutely delicious.
We're here in Kenrokuen, a garden that was made for the enjoyment of the local lord who
in the feudal era was the second richest in all of Japan after the Shogun.
Today this garden is opened to the public
and stands at Kanazawa's number one tourist attraction.
Following our exploration of Kenrokuen,
we make the short walk to our accommodation for the night.
I'm currently enjoying a course dinner of Kanazawa haute cuisine accompanied by some
delicious local sake.
After this it's off to bed because we've got a big day tomorrow.
Kanpai.
Day 6
We leave Kanazawa behind and head on to Fukui Prefecture, where we'll partake in a Kimono
wearing experience and visit Maruoka Castle.
After a morning of kimono fun, we head to the Hakusan Heisenji Shrine before making
our way to Shiga Prefecture and the town of Omi Hachiman,
where our day will come to an end.
We take the Hokuriku main line from Kanazawa to Awara Onsen station, before taking a bus
to Maruoka Castle, where we will make the short walk to the kimono rental shop.
We have arrived at Maruoka Castle, one of only twelve in Japan whose keep has survived
since the feudal era.
From Maruoka Castle we take a bus to Eiheijiguchi Station and then board a train all the way
to Katsuyama Station, from where a taxi will take us to the Hakusan Heisenji Shrine.
We've just arrived at Hakusan Heisenji Shrine and this place is well known for the moss,
which as you can see covers a lot of the shrine grounds.
Now the atmosphere in this place is just absolutely serene, so let's go and check it out.
To end our day of exploration we take a train back through the countryside from Katsuyama
to Fukui, where we board a limited express train to Maibara before heading to Omihachiman
via a special rapid train.
The ryokan we will be staying at is around 30 minutes' walk from the station, or around
ten minutes by taxi.
So we've made it to the end of Day 6 of this incredible journey from Tokyo to Kyoto.
And tomorrow we've got yet another amazing day planned.
But I think for now it's time for a little bit of relaxation
before getting a good night's sleep.
Day 7
For the last day of our trip, we start with a boat ride along the Omihachiman canal, after
which we'll explore the old merchant district and indulge in a local delicacy for lunch.
Following that it's off to the final stop of our journey: Kyoto's Fushimi Inari Shrine.
So the canal that we are sailing on this morning was made by the local lord some centuries
ago and later it contributed heavily to Omi Hachiman's ascendency as a commercial hub.
Only a few minutes away from where the boat ride docks is Shinmachi-dori Street, along
which many historic buildings have been well-preserved.
So we're here at a restaurant inside the old merchant district and this restaurant
specializes in Omi Beef, the local delicacy.
Today we're going to eat it Sukiyaki Style and the way you do that is by cooking the
beef in this broth before having it with a little bit of raw egg.
It looks delicious and I cannot wait to dig in.
Back at Omi Hachiman Station, we take a 35-minute train ride to Kyoto, where we take the Nara
Line a couple of stops to Inari Station.
So we finally made it to our last destination on this 7 day tour from Tokyo to Kyoto, and
what better way to end a trip like this than at Kyoto's fantastic Fushimi Inari shrine.
And that concludes our amazing adventure along Japan's New Golden Route.

The fascinating history of cemeteries - Keith Eggener - Duration: 5:19.
Spindly trees,
rusted gates,
crumbling stone,
a solitary mourner—
these things come to mind when we think of cemeteries.
But not so long ago,
many burial grounds were lively places,
with blooming gardens and crowds of people
strolling among the headstones.
How did our cemeteries become what they are today?
Some have been around for centuries,
like the world's largest, Wadi al-Salaam,
where more than five million people are buried.
But most of the places we'd recognize as cemeteries are much younger.
In fact, for much of human history,
we didn't bury our dead at all.
Our ancient ancestors had many other ways of parting with the dead loved ones.
Some were left in caves,
others in trees
or on mountaintops.
Still others were sunk in lakes,
put out to sea,
ritually cannibalized,
or cremated.
All of these practices,
though some may seem strange today,
were ways of venerating the dead.
By contrast, the first known burials
about 120,000 years ago
were likely reserved for transgressors,
excluding them from the usual rites
intended to honor the dead.
But the first burials revealed some advantages over other practices:
they protected bodies from scavengers and the elements,
while shielding loved ones from the sight of decay.
These benefits may have shifted ancient people's thinking
toward graves designed to honor the dead,
and burial became more common.
Sometimes, these graves contained practical or ritual objects,
suggesting belief in an afterlife
Communal burials first appeared in North Africa and West Asia
around 10 to 15,000 years ago,
around the same time as the first permanent settlements in these areas.
These burial grounds created permanent places to commemorate the dead.
The nomadic Scythians littered the steppes
with grave mounds known as kurgans.
The Etruscans built expansive necropoles,
their grid-patterned streets lined with tombs.
In Rome, subterranean catacombs housed
both cremation urns and intact remains.
The word cemetery, or "sleeping chamber,"
was first used by ancient Greeks,
who built tombs in graveyards
at the edges of their cities.
In medieval European cities,
Christian churchyards provided rare, open spaces
that accommodated the dead,
but also hosted markets, fairs, and other events.
Farmers even grazed cattle in them,
believing graveyard grass made for sweeter milk.
As cities grew during the industrial revolution,
large suburban cemeteries replaced smaller urban churchyards.
Cemeteries like the 110-acre Père-Lachaise in Paris
or the 72-acre Mt. Auburn in Cambridge, Massachusetts
were lushly landscaped gardens
filled with sculpted stones
and ornate tombs.
Once a luxury reserved for the rich and powerful,
individually marked graves
became available to the middle and working classes.
People visited cemeteries for funerals,
but also for anniversaries, holidays,
or simply an afternoon outdoors.
By the late 19th century, as more public parks and botanical gardens appeared,
cemeteries began to lose visitors.
Today, many old cemeteries are lonely places.
Some are luring visitors back with tours,
concerts, and other attractions.
But even as we revive old cemeteries,
we're rethinking the future of burial.
Cities like London, New York, and Hong Kong
are running out of burial space.
Even in places where space isn't so tight,
cemeteries permanently occupy land
that can't be otherwise cultivated or developed.
Traditional burial consumes materials
like metal, stone, and concrete,
and can pollute soil and groundwater
with toxic chemicals.
With increasing awareness of the environmental costs,
people are seeking alternatives.
Many are turning to cremation and related practices.
Along with these more conventional practices,
people can now have their remains shot into space,
used to fertilize a tree,
or made into jewelry,
fireworks,
and even tattoo ink.
In the future, options like these may replace burial completely.
Cemeteries may be our most familiar monuments to the departed,
but they're just one step
in our ever-evolving process
of remembering and honoring the dead.

How To Get Videos Off iPhone - Duration: 7:46.
Alright, Scott. I've got some videos on my iPhone here. How do I get the videos off
of my iPhone? Where do you want to put them? I guess that's a good question.
Hm-hmm... So how'd it get them off and where to put them? Let's let's figure it
out and we'll demonstrate. Okay, you got videos on your iPhone you were saying.
Yeah, so I first want to compare it to the DSLR, that's what we're filming on
here and when we film, you know it all records right here. Just to this SD card
128 gigabyte which is amazing and on my Macbook, I just stick it on the side. I
know the brand new MacBooks. You have to have a dongle to be able to do that. But
I can get the video files directly onto my computer. Beg your pardon? So sorry it
took me a while. You know you gave me the look but anyway, alright, go ahead. So
it's straight forward. How to get videos files from here to there right - yeah. But
how do you do it with an iPhone, there's a couple little tricks actually because
if you don't know the tricks, it will actually decrease the video quality.
The programming on the Mac compresses the video files. Sorry it's not closing.
There you go. So, we're actually going to demonstrate how to do this. So
first of all, let's make a video that we want to put on our computer - okay. So I'm
going to open up my camera, go to selfie mode. Alright so today we're making an
epic video that everyone in the world is going to watch. I mean how many views you
think this video will get? Oh a good baker's dozen. Yeah, yeah a dozen. I
mean - hm-hmm. 12 to 13. Well, are we ever going post it somewhere? Well
obviously, yeah. Let's post it to Facebook - of course! Facebook... Hi guys!
Okay, so we just made an 18 second video that's probably one of our best pieces
of work. It really is. So, how do we we...We need to open up my Macbook and we
need to... You're going to go hardwired on there are you? Yeah, I don't know how to do it software -
okay you go. You could... Is there a way?An 18-second file probably isn't that big.
You could do it... I mean just do airdrop and oh airdrop.
Yeah, airdrop would actually be easy. So we're going to demonstrate two ways. Can you
do it if it's like a big 4k file though like... I don't know. Let's see I mean... I
will demonstrate two ways. You brought up... Does it degenerates the size
of the file or whatever. Airdrop doesn't. So airdrop is a better solution -
okay. But I don't know if there's limitations to file size. That's the
question that I actually... Well I mean I shoot some fairly big stuff that I just
kind of any airdrop it - yeah and it goes into downloads or wherever. I want to put
it. Well, you asked, I answered. If you here's one way the airdrop would be
a pain that I would not rely on because if I've got a lot of different
stuff on my phone then I need to backup or transfer to my computer. Let's say
it's a hundred different files, tell me would you highlight a hundred of them
and airdrop all of them at the same time? No, no. I like that... I like the cordage
approach. I think it's fine - yeah, yeah. So I guess we'll demonstrate airdrop. Okay,
so we're going to airdrop this little movie file we just made. Yeah, so let's open up
so we click this... The little... in the bottom left corner. I click on that box
with arrow and it highlights it and I can - oh there we go! It found my Macbook. There's your
Macbook. That is... I tapped on it and...
Usually it makes that noise. Mine doesn't. It did but I have mine muted. Alright, so if I
come down here to my downloads folder, you see there's the video right there.
There we are - yeah and it's it's a...So we've been watched
for one second I thought it'll have a miracle. What an amazing... There you are and I muted but we
could - oh yeah. These videos are going to do so well. I mean
look at us - yeah. That face, that's... Alright, so now we
know how to do that using airdrop which if you're going to do a single file - yeah or
a few - I mean... yeah. So now the other option is you come in here to this
Photos app not on iTunes, where is it photos... The Photos app. Welcome to photos
and it picks my iPhone. It's got lots of family stuff going on there and I want
to scroll down to the very bottom. There you go. So, I'm going to select the file
that I want to transfer and I can highlight all of them. I'm going to say
delete after... Delete items after import. I like to do that because if they're on my
computer. I don't need them on my phone anymore.
Yeah and then I'll import the one selected or the 500 selected. So I mean I
this is the system that I definitely would use if I... You know what, I've got
six months worth of videos on my phone because I have 128
gigabytes here. So often I'll have six months worth -
yeah and I'll just transfer them all and clear off my phone. I haven't... I've never
done it that way and I sometimes wish that I had. So now it's on my Macbook.
Inside of the Photos app but you actually have to get it out of the
Photos app. So you highlight it and then you come up here to export but notice
this, if I just export the one video, it compresses it, it does something weird to
it. You want to export - unmodified, original - yes and so you just hit export
and then you get to choose where as it's thinking here. I'll just save it to my
desktop and whatever name as. Export original. So then it'll export the
original, it says it's done. So here it is. Right down here. So there now I've got
two originals. One in the desktop, one on that in the downloads folder that we got
from from airdrop, yeah. So now I think we should upload
this video to Facebook and see how it does. What do you think?
Oh well if they must. Hey, I mean if we get a dozen, more than a dozen views and
it will beat our expectations. So let's go here to photo - video. How do you do this?
Oh yeah... Do you might write something about it or anything you can - of
course they will. There it is. There it is. That was the airdrop one I think. Our
biggest video production yet. I
definitely want to tag you because all your friends are going to... Alright, so...What
was this video about? We're making a video on how to get videos off the
iPhone? So I think we showed that. A couple ways. Yeah, I noticed you didn't
upload it to your YouTube channel. No, I did not. He uploaded to Facebook because
he literally has no respect at all. I couldn't possibly care less about
Facebook. Yeah - it's like the junk file. Let's put this piece of crap
out of Facebook. Well, so obviously you enjoyed this video because you're watching
us knuckleheads. Your video is ready. You can now watch it. Oh, sweet. It's going to go
viral. Comment below if you actually are interested in knowing what this video
did and I'll let you know later.

Good morning! Today is Tuesday and usually on Tuesdays I don't have work to do
I'll try to edit yesterday's clip which you've already watched
I am watching my video yesterday in class and I'm so weak coz I have a cold
I'm laughing at my tumbling it's so embarrassing
I'm done editing
Right now it's almost 4:00
I often do stretching
I am deepening my flexibility
Before I stretch, I warm up
I do improve--freestyle--improvisation
There is a song that's trending nowadays
I'll try to improve to that song
I don't want anymore!
It's so funny
I'll change the song
I'm done stretching
My legs hurt but it feels good too
My favorite thing is stretching because it's so relaxing and at the same time it makes my flexibility better which I am using in dance

I will be practicing my gymnastics skills today, my tumblings
I do this maybe once a week or once in two weeks or sometimes twice a week depending on my mood
I do this always so that it won't be lost
I am wearing socks right now
Some people might get triggered again
In the comments section of my old videos, some viewers said they get nervous when I am wearing socks and tumble on tiles because I might slip or hurt my head but no. I can handle this! I can do this!
Also, some people commented on my old videos and thought that this is my house. This isn't my house
Actually, this is a church. It's big, right? I tumble right here
My father is a pastor. We're Evangelical Christians or commonly known as Born Again
Our house is just below this church
Don't get nervous when I tumble here
Because the Lord is protecting me!
I've already stretched
I will be showing you my few tumbling skills
I always practice it so I don't lose it
